This is the Almost Famous Podcasts with IHartRadio.
Hi, Almost Famous. Oh, geez. It's Trista again, and I get to talk to Susie this time. How are you?
I'm good. It's so good to see you.
You too. You look beautiful. Always looking beautiful. Oh, thank you.
I mean, I'm in my like fluffy sweater and everyone's got these beautiful like glitter.
You look glam.
Are you kidding?
You look gorgeous, like a white sweater.
Like, it's, I mean, first of all, it's bold.
Like, you can't get anything on it.
Like, you have confidence in yourself.
I know.
I literally was like, what am I going to drink?
I thought red wine and I'm like, maybe not.
We're doing champagne tonight because we're classy, we're bougie.
I did just ask for a Moscow meal, but I might need to switch it up and do champagne.
See, that's safe.
Let's just do a taste test.
I love it.
Yes.
How is life?
Life's pretty good.
That's good.
You're here.
Yep.
I'm in L.A.
I'm in L.A.
I'm like close to Weho area.
Okay.
Yeah.
So it's fun.
It's like.
Oh, West Hollywood.
I'm like, what is that?
Yes.
Yeah.
West Hollywood.
I'm trendy now.
I'm an L.A.
girl.
I abbreviate.
Thank you.
Yes.
This old one needs a little abbreviation help every so often.
And are you and Justin still?
You know, that is like the question of the century?
That is.
And you're not answering?
Last year? I think that was the question of The Bachelor Mansion as well. You're right. Last year.
Yeah. We, yeah, we are like working on things and seeing if it makes sense for us and taking things slow, taking things privately and just kind of like seeing like what really makes sense for us.
You know? Yeah, but I think the cool thing about it is that we have been able to maintain like a very positive friendship.
Love. Through all of it. So good. Yeah.
that's important grateful that we both I think that's because we started as such close friends that we were like yeah that was the fear the whole time of like okay if we start a relationship like we might lose the friendship and so I think a big thing in life is just like compatibility and huge yeah and so I think that's something where we're just at points in our life where we're like we got to figure out if we're compatible you know yeah that's very important I feel like that's what I was looking for on the show you know compatibility I mean amongst a lot of other things
But compatibility is huge.
Yeah.
And you guys met how long ago?
I guess it would be like two years.
Oh my gosh.
Yeah, I guess like two years ago.
But we were just friends for the first year.
Yeah.
And then, and you met after you were on the show or after he was on?
After both of us had been on the show and off the show for a while.
Okay.
Because I dated Clayton for almost a year.
Right.
And then, yeah, we broke up.
And then Justin hired me as a videographer.
we both live. No way. I didn't know that. Yeah, we're from like only three hours from each other.
Okay. So he hired me to do some videography work for him. And then we stayed friends. We both moved to L.A. at the same time and maintain friendship throughout it.
I love hearing the story. Yeah. I love the backstories. I know. Are you still doing videography stuff? Not as much. I have been wanting to do it more just as like a passion thing. Because I feel like for a lot, I did it for four years as a wedding videographer. Yes. And then.
Okay.
That one is bold with the white sweater.
I know, but I have to try it.
It looks so beautiful.
And it's gorgeous with you.
I feel like you need a picture with it even, you know?
It's fine.
This is beautiful.
Cheers.
Wow, cheers.
I mean, it's really good.
Look at the flowers in it.
I know.
That's so pretty.
That's so L.A.
Joe, did you just bring me that drink?
Because thank you.
No.
I'm just kidding.
He was like, no, I was getting something from the purse over here.
Okay.
So, Clayton, you guys, you left the show, right?
Separate, yeah.
And then you guys rekindled things afterwards.
Yeah.
And then you broke up.
How was like the public and either support or scrutiny through that whole thing?
It was pretty tough because it was very divided.
Like, it was hard because at that point, we were seeing so much, like, team Clayton, team Susie.
And people didn't know we were together.
because I left the show and then I'm like oh gosh everyone who's rooting for me and hates him
and everyone who's hating me and loves him like they're all going to see us reunite in a week
and they have no idea that they're going to have to be team Clayton and Susie yes so it was pretty
brutal I look back and I'm like I was not well like I was like really not good but I think that
I have this like ability to like in emergencies like whenever I'm facing
emergencies like high adrenaline situations like I am strategic and I am like
yes I'm going to solve this like I'm very motivated to be like things are going to be okay
like I have a positive outlook yeah but it was probably like three or four months
after the show had completely ended where like I was getting into therapy I'd been in
therapy but I was like really getting into like the nitty gritty of therapy I had like
met with a few people for like management stuff like post show just like what do you want to do
we have this platform now and somebody was like what do you want to do with all of this that you've just
like yeah accumulated and i was like oh my gosh like i haven't thought about myself or like my goals
like i haven't thought about any of that because i have just been in like emergency yeah like i was
just like i was just not really like mentally in a good space yeah and yeah i just i just i just
I think I was worried about everyone around me.
I think, like, Clayton and I've kind of talked about it where, like, he faced a lot more
scrutiny than me.
And I think seeing that as somebody that loved him and was like, seeing somebody you love just
get, like, torn to shreds online, I was just like, we got to make this better for you.
Yeah.
Let's lift you up.
Let's do this.
And I was like, I was like putting, I felt like I was putting out fires.
And we laugh about it.
How do you start a relationship?
Yeah.
And we laugh about it now.
And we're like on great terms.
And he's, and I'm grateful for him.
and he's grateful for me.
But, like, at some point, I, like, looked at it all and I was like, oh, I've, like,
literally been, like, avoiding my mental health and my well-being.
So I think there was a, there was just a lot of, like, pain that kind of came with that.
Because even if you were Team Susie, I didn't want you to, like, tear down the person I cared about, you know?
Right.
Yeah.
Oh, no, I feel that.
Yeah.
Have you ever done an enneagram test?
Yes.
Do you know what number are?
I'm a seven.
Okay.
I'm a two.
It seems like you're, you're probably got a little bit of two in there, too.
Okay.
Remind me what two?
helper okay i'm i would say maybe that's like my wing or whatever probably because i like i feel
that what you were just like you were speaking to me yeah what you were just saying putting out fires
and like strategy like you want to help other people be happy yeah yeah yeah yeah that sounds
awfully familiar the detriment of yourself yeah which is actually one of the reasons why i just
did this new show special forces oh my gosh we i want to hear
all about this. I know we can't talk about it like right now. We can talk about it. But,
oh, but I'm, yes, I'll be on season three. And it was crazy. But one of the reasons that I did
is because I feel like I put people before myself for so long. I've been a stay-at-home
and work mom for almost 18 years. So, like, they were my world, are my world. And I wouldn't
change that for the world. Of course. But I just, with this opportunity, I was like, I can get back
to me i'll do something for me yeah you know that's a really big thing yeah like i'm gonna do something
for me and i'm gonna go out into wilderness and put on army clothes and fight for my life like that is a
bold one which i love i respect well not like it came up with the that the idea of course you know
they came to ask and i was at first i said hell no like i'm there's yeah are you kidding right
Why would you want me?
And then I thought about it and thought, hmm, I feel like I could get something out of this.
And people, women are going to get something out of it.
Like, I'm excited to see, like, other women see themselves in you.
Because I feel like as a helper, whether you're anagram two or you're just a helpful kind person,
I think a lot of women and nice guys as well, they, I'm not going to say just all women.
But a lot of women I know, I'm like, we put others' needs before ourselves.
I feel like when you become a mom.
I'm not a mom, but when that happens, you prioritize everybody else around you.
And I saw that with my mom, who also was like similar in her mom role where it was like,
she worked, but she also stayed at home at times and she was like family first.
She kept everything together for us.
And I think it's really, it's like you want now as an adult, I'm like, I want you to choose
yourself.
But even now she's a grandma and she's like, she wants to, you know, provide for the grandkids.
And everything's about everybody else.
So I think it's going to be really cool for women to see you do something like this, which is, can I say badass on me?
You sure can.
Which is really badass.
Like, that's freaking cool.
Thank you.
It was a crazy experience.
And I just am so grateful that they actually did want me, you know?
Yeah.
It was like, I remember having the conversation, the first conversation with the producers.
And they're like, well, why would you want to do it?
And I said that reason, you know, I've been pouring into my kids and my family for almost 18 years.
and I kind of just want to do something for myself
and reconnect with the me that I was before I had kids.
Not that there's anything wrong with it.
Like, I have loved my job.
I would do it all over again if I had to.
But, you know, maybe now's my time.
My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly,
and now I'm seriously suspicious.
Oh, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit.
Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon.
This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot.
He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her.
Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone.
Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate.
Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age.
And it's even more likely that they're cheating.
He insists there's nothing between them.
I mean, do you believe him?
Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet.
So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not?
To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

Imagine that you're on an airplane and all of a sudden you hear this.
Attention passengers.
The pilot is having an emergency and we need someone, anyone to land this plane.
Think you could do it?
It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control.
And they're saying like, okay, pull this, until this.
Pull that. Turn this.
It's just, I can do it my eyes close.
I'm Manny.
I'm Noah.
This is Devon.
And on our new show, no such thing.

My name is Ed. Everyone say hello, Ed.
Hello, Ed.
I'm from a very rural background myself.
My dad is a farmer.
And my mom is a cousin, so like, it's not like...
What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago.
I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different.
On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear.
Well, 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family.
And then he came to my house.
So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage.
Available now.
Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Did you train for it?
I did.
I did. I called Hannah.
Hannah Brown was on the first season, and she crushed it. She won. I called her, and she gave me the advice to, like, go out for big hikes or runs, if I can with a pack.
And so I tried that. I am not a runner. I have never been a runner. I'm not an endurance athlete. I'm more like the sprinter version when I was an athlete, and that hasn't been in a long time.
And I thought that was really great advice, and I just wish I would have done more of it.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Do you feel like it was more physical or mental for you?
I think all like they tie.
Everything.
Yes.
Wow.
Oh, that's interesting.
Freaking hard mentally.
Okay, because it's obviously very, I believe it's got to be mental too.
Yeah.
I love the show.
That's my strategic take is that I'm like, I feel like people who might go in physically very
tough, you might think they have an advantage, but sometimes those people come with an attitude.
You are so right. And you got to kick the attitude to the curb. Totally. If you want to be like,
like, and when I think of military, I'm like respect, like, you can't have an ego. Like,
you get shot down. Like, you literally, they want to like break you down. 100%. And you might come in
with a lot of physical, you know, advantages. But I feel like the mental piece has to be huge.
It is massive. It is massive. I, I, I, I, I feel.
feel like for that reason too it's a great reason to do the show you know would you ever do it
i would yeah i think i would like get a thrill from like the like the scene where they like drop the
car in the water yes like i think i would loki love that like i think there's something wrong in my
brain but i think there's something wrong with me if i'm going to enjoy that like that thing i would
enjoy but then when they like buried hannah underground that's i'm out so out so if i ever do the show
nobody released this footage because I don't need them knowing my weakness.
Because you know that they're going to do that.
Yeah.
If you tell them.
Literally.
So yeah, this can't go anywhere after this.
Although I have to say, like, you go into it and you think you have certain fears.
Mm-hmm.
Okay?
I had a huge fear of open water.
Long story short, huge fear of open water, right?
So it was in Wales.
We shot it in Wales and the first thing that we did was open water swim.
And I wasn't scared.
Like I think because I was so tuned in to everything that was happening around me, I wasn't
thinking about actually swimming.
Not that I did well.
Yeah.
But I did well enough for me.
I just feel like I wasn't thinking about my fear.
Interesting.
Do you know what I mean?
Yeah.
And then I have a pretty healthy fear.
of heights and we did this um you see it in the trailer so i'm not spoiling anything we jump off
this bridge and it was a really tall bridge i can't remember how tall but very very tall and um
i get to the top i get all like harnessed in and um foxy is the like ds guy who's like
standing up there with me and they all know everyone's fears right they're all tuned in yeah and i know
that he knew I had a healthy fear of heights. It's not like my worst fear, but I had a healthy
fear of heights. And he's like, okay, we'll turn around and see what you're, you know,
about ready to do. It's fully expecting me to be like panic mode, you know, screaming, crying,
whatever. Right. And I turn around and I was like, oh, it's beautiful.
Oh, that's so wholesome. Wait, that's so wholesome. You're like, wait, this is kind of
gorgeous. Like, where am I?
What is my life right now?
This is amazing.
Mind you, I'm about to jump off a huge bridge.
But anyway, he was like, he literally was like, it's beautiful?
Like, what are you talking about?
Are you scared?
And I'm like, well, yeah, I am.
But it is really beautiful, isn't it?
It was really funny.
I love that.
So you never know, like, how you're going to react to, like, your fears until you're put into it.
That's so crazy. The open water would scare me, especially in Wales.
Isn't that where Lochness monsters is?
I would be like...
I cannot think about that!
That's the first thing I thought of...
Susie, I'm so glad I didn't talk to you before I went on the show.
I would have been freaking everyone out.
Like, I literally would have been like, y'all know this is where Lochness is.
I cannot.
Yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
You're lucky you're here right now.
Like, for that reason alone, thank God you made it out.
Nessie, isn't that what they call her?
Yesy.
Yeah.
That is so funny.
I didn't think about.
Another thing that I did not even think about, we were in Richmond, which is where Ted Lassau is filmed.
Oh, fun.
And I was walking around, like, it was before we filmed, and I'm like, down this street because
I'm following, like, all the people.
And I look up and I'm like, huh, this is Ted Lassow Street.
How crazy.
That's amazing.
That's so cool.
It was crazy.
Anyway, enough about me.
Life is good.
No, honestly, I want to keep going.
That was really fun.
I love it.
Later, I'm going to have to pick your brain because special courses.
Yeah, for sure. It was really, really fun. Are you still doing your podcast? Yeah. Yeah, I'm still doing it. It's called Live Laugh Lies. Okay. And we started in September and we're taking a little break for Christmas, but then back in the New Year. Awesome. It's been really fun. It's kind of become its own thing. Like, we didn't really know where it was going because the topic is lies. So we're like, okay, lots of like crazy dating stories. We had Risa Tisa on who, she's really fun.
She did a 80-part series on TikTok talking, like 80 videos.
Oh, okay.
Some of them were 10 minutes long.
Oh, my gosh.
Crazy.
And she just got a show.
If you are listening, Risa Tisa, yeah, she's got like a show on TV somewhere.
So I forget the network.
But a show about her experience, this guy, like, lied about everything, including his social
security number, like, where he was born.
He just made up every piece of who he was.
Like, he was fully just like a con artist, essentially.
She married him, started a life with him, and then it all came crashing down.
Really crazy story.
So she was like one of our first guests.
And then we had Macy Neely from Secret Lives of the Mormon Wives.
Okay.
We're going like Mormon, you know, scandals.
And now we're getting someone from Nexus, the Colts, I think it's, I think it is.
Yeah.
What is it?
Nexum.
Nexum, yes.
We haven't filmed it yet.
So I'm like, I don't, I need to do my research.
But I'm like, that is like, so it's really becoming like a.
That's so cool.
True crime meets relationships.
Yes. Are you a true crime junkie?
I was for a long time, but then I started to get really scared.
So I have to like be really cautious.
I'm like, I can't like listen to it when I know I'm going to be alone for too long.
Or if I'm going home like from somewhere, I used to listen to podcasts on the way home from work.
And I like had to stop because I was like, I can't get out of my car without like an escort.
I have to like call someone to come get me.
No, no. That does not work.
Yeah.
Well, that's so fun. I love it.
Yeah.
Congratulations, of course.
Thank you so much for chatting.
You too.
It was so good to see you.
You look so beautiful.
