Starting point is 00:02:50 It's Bob Guinea here without my partner in crime, of course. Trista Sutter, she's unavailable to be here today. But I am very excited and we'll do my... my very best to represent for us. We've got one of the standouts from this season, from Mel's season of the Golden Bachelor, Dr. Terry Alani, the Texas Tooth Lady. And if we are lucky, we might even get to talk to Carly, Dr. Terry Alani's sidekick. So let's bring her in. Hi, how are you doing? I'm good. How are you? I am doing great. Thank you. Welcome to the Almost Famous Podcast. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I love to talk.
Starting point is 00:03:23 I'm sure you do I mean at the end of the day I'm sure you got plenty to say too what an experience huh how are you feeling getting to watch it all back in real time you know it's really interesting because some of the things
Starting point is 00:03:37 I was really surprised at I had so much fun I think I left at the right time to be honest there you know the drama started taking place so I was sort of surprised at how some of it
Starting point is 00:03:48 has taken place so far a little more drama you think than maybe what you would have like to have experienced? You know, I was surprised at who the top two were. I was surprised at that. And I was surprised at, I mean, come on, we all know about Nicole, right? Hot lips. Hot lips, Nicole. And the way she portrayed herself on camera with the interviews versus the way she was with us. So tell me a little bit about that. I mean, you know, I was, I think, first of all, I usually
Starting point is 00:04:23 like to open every interview I'm saying, of course, this is the OGs, right? The almost famous OGs podcast. Meaning, typically my co-host Trista Sutter is here with me. She was the first Bachelorette. I was the first person to be a reject from her season to be then named the bachelor after that. So I helped start this trend. I guess Trista technically started it and then I really kind of piled it on. So we know a little bit about this drama stuff, you know, some of it that unfolds on camera and some of it that doesn't. But you mentioned Nicole. how she portrayed herself on camera versus how she was with y'all so i am curious about that because you know when we when we looked at the season when it first started i mean of course you know the
Starting point is 00:05:04 big driving uh the driving tone of it was mel's comments on the podcast and how all the women especially you with your little buddy came up and you know gave him a swat in the face when you uh when you greeted them and i have my buddy with me in case you got i'm so excited i was hoping you were going to don't don't bring them out yet because i got questions about your buddy too but um but what i thought was really interesting was you know uh a lot of you had heard those comments obviously beforehand still decided to go on with the show and um you know i'm sure there was a lot of apprehension right going into it i mean you know with his with his age range and everything else and then you guys are coming out just bombshells one after the next it's all beautiful
Starting point is 00:05:43 and accomplished women and kind of putting it right in his face which i thought was pretty awesome i'm not going to lie to you i really enjoyed that part of the show um but uh you mentioned Nicole in particular. So one of the things that we always talk about is a lot of people come off of these shows and they'll say, oh, well, I just got a bad at it. You know, it wasn't me. I didn't say any of those things. And we're like, well, the beauty of reality television is that cameras are always rolling. So you probably did say it. Maybe not in that moment. Maybe not exactly when they used it. But what was Nicole like to y'all, as opposed to her on-camera interviews that you found so interesting? Okay, first of all, I want to say how to Trista because I watched that show.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Okay, I've watched The Bachelor since the very beginning. So, Tristan, Ryan, I've seen them, believe it or not, but I've been around. I love it. So with Nicole, she was really nice in the house. She was, she was so sweet, so fun. She and I would use my puppets sometimes, and we would pretend that we were these entertainment host and interview all the girls. And she cooked, and she, I remember the night that she won the roast.
Starting point is 00:06:47 and she went out with him and then she came back. We were all waiting to hear what she had to say, and she was just so transparent. And it was just refreshing because she was so honest. And then I would watch it after I left. I watched the segment, the episodes, and I was like flabbergasted. Like, who is this girl?
Starting point is 00:07:08 Because she wasn't like that with us. And honestly, I think she was having fun with it. I think her journey was very different than most of the girl. and I think that was just what she thought she needed to do to attract the attention that she needed. And, you know, the fact that she said she wanted to be an influencer didn't even phase me
Starting point is 00:07:29 whatsoever because I think that a lot of people are on the show for different reasons, right? I mean, for me, it would be to try to find a relationship. I mean, at my age, I'm 72 now, so any guy that breathes is probably good. But, you know, I was there. for the right reasons, but also I wanted to kind of inspire women at my age to say, hey, you can get out there, you can go for it, you can still be fit, be healthy, and enjoy life.
Starting point is 00:07:58 So, you know, I had my reasons as well. So I wasn't really upset about that. I think what bothered me is I feel like she kind of dished some of the girls. And I don't like that. Because you don't have to be that way, right? I mean, you can go through these shows and really pump each other up and have each other's back. And, you know, but like, To what you said, though, maybe she was trying to position herself as, you know, the snarky, funny, whatever it might be. And it kind of backfired a little bit on her. And I'll say something, you know, she, after I called her out in the pool, which I didn't even know the cameras were on me. So that was like really genuine.
Starting point is 00:08:36 And I mean, I really am not like that. I mean, obviously, I got eliminated halfway through because some of the girls, like, I ran to a Cindy. and she really was into mail. So I just kind of backed up because I knew I wasn't going to be as forward and I just kind of let her take over. So I really enjoyed my time. But with Nicole, as far as the pool scene,
Starting point is 00:08:59 I told her after I did my camera interview that I had called her out. I said, look, I called you out. It's probably going to be on national TV. I just want you to let you know because I don't want you to be surprised seeing it. And so she and I were pretty good. And then, you know,
Starting point is 00:09:13 I come home and I was eliminated and I watched the season. I'm like, what the hell? And I'll tell you, in the roast, when Debbie called out Nicole, I was proud of Debbie because Debbie had some emotions. And I had actually started that conversation. They did not show that on the air, but I'd started it. And I sort of sandwiched it. Debbie's pretty much hit it straight on. But you know, a lot of us were upset because she was so nice. in the house. That's what blew us away. If she had been like a villain in the house, maybe we could have understood it, but we just couldn't understand it. And every time Mel would walk into the house, she would be the first to go up. I remember one day she called him
Starting point is 00:09:57 her husband. I mean, it was funny. But Nicole is super articulate and very intelligent. And I've heard her interview. She navigates things beautifully. And I think she could have used her prowess and a more positive light, because I felt like way too much energy was focused on her and the drama versus the women and the sisterhood in the house. Right. And there was a good sisterhood, wasn't there? There was. We had so much fun.
Starting point is 00:10:29 They didn't really show us. Nobody knows us. You know, everybody was just these fit, healthy, Botoxed injected women. And we're not. You know, a lot of us are. mothers honestly for me i've been in shape on my life i am super fit i take care of myself i eat right it's just been a lifestyle for me and i i think people are shocked they're like she's 72 and she can look like that yeah it's an everyday thing it's consistent yeah so if i can do it i would
Starting point is 00:11:01 like to inspire women they can do it as well well i i got to tell you i don't think that the the sisterhood was lost on most on all the viewers because you know one of the things about the Golden franchise, and I've said this a bunch, but I was nervous the first season with Gary when it came out. My nerves were kind of about casting, right? And my fear was, oh, my gosh, is this going to be like stunt casting? They're going to bring in, you know, a bunch of age-appropriate people, and then they're going to bring in like two or three cougars to mix it up and, you know, and I was worried about that. And then they didn't do that, thankfully. And then the women all got along so well, and there were so many of the women that continued on, like Kathy and
Starting point is 00:11:41 Susan, who, like, their friendship really kind of drove the bus for them to do a lot of really cool things after the show, even though they weren't, you know, in the final pairings or whatever. Exactly. You know, and that's, I think, what people see. There are a couple personalities that will stand out from this thing. And, you know, obviously, I think you might really end up being one of them that, you know, you just say how you feel, you are who you are, and you've made some great friendships. Because that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:12:07 I mean, you know, one of the things I used to love to say whenever they would have me talk to the new bachelor guys is that always say, hey, it's not about you. And the guys would be like, what do you mean, you know? No, it's not about you. It's about the fact that we've got 20 or however many incredibly talented alpha women who have never lost anything to any other woman. And so every one of those women in this room are here to, they don't, you don't think you're there to win, but it's like this weird social studies experiment, right? Like kind of, all of a sudden you're kind of progressing through this process. And at the end of it, you're sort of like, well, why is she getting the rose?
Starting point is 00:12:41 And you even mentioned Cindy, who was your roommate. You know, it comes down now. You said you were a little surprised by the finalist, by the final two people. Why were you surprised by them? I mean, Cindy, obviously, you probably know pretty well. I wasn't surprised by Cindy. I thought Cindy would be in it. I was surprised by Peg.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Pegg and I are very good friends. And Cindy, I love Cindy. So Peg, in the beginning, she was just not into him at all. I mean, she was cracking me up. She's so funny in the beginning of the show. Even when she got out of the limel and her bomb didn't diffuse like three times in a row and it's just like, how long are they
Starting point is 00:13:18 keep this going? I mean, that was pretty funny. Well, we connected pretty quickly because we have similar personalities and then we had a little issue which they didn't show as well. But we navigated through that. But I was surprised that that relationship grew, but then after watching it, I totally see it.
Starting point is 00:13:38 And then Cindy, of course, is just, she's just dear. She's just amazing. But as I said, and then there was Debbie, who I love. And I've said, if Cindy and Peg had a child, it would be Debbie. Because Debbie's right in between the two. And if Debbie and Peg had a child, it would be me. Because I have an unfiltered side of me. And then I have, Debbie is just so sweet and kind.
Starting point is 00:14:05 I have that side. So, you know, there was a big. mix in the house, but now I'm not surprised to see both of the two. We often think we know our type in dating. Tall, funny, a certain job, but the research shows we're usually not the best predictors of who will actually make us the happiest. As we often say on the Happiness Lab, our minds lie to us about all kinds of stuff. And that definitely includes the kinds of things we need to be happy in a relationship. That's why it helps to stay curious.
Starting point is 00:14:41 On Bumble, features like shared interests and prompts make it easy to notice right on someone's profile initial sparks of compatibility, like a shared love of cooking or the same nostalgic TV shows. Shared interests and prompts let you showcase your personality right on your profile and connect with people who get your vibe. And with photo and ID verification, you can feel confident the person you're talking to is real, so you can date with a bit more confidence. When you treat dating as exploration, instead of sticking to a rigid type,
Starting point is 00:15:12 you open yourself up to happier, more meaningful connections. So maybe your type isn't tall, dark, and mysterious. Maybe it's Love's podcast as much as you do. Stay open, stay curious, and let yourself be surprised. Download Bumble today. She said, Johnny, the kids didn't come home last night. Along the central Texas plains, teens are dying, suicides that don't make sense. strange accidents, and brutal murders.
Starting point is 00:15:41 In what seems to be, a plot ripped straight out of Breaking Bad. Drugs, alcohol, trafficking of people. There are people out there that absolutely know what happened. Listen to paper ghosts, the Texas teen murders, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What do you get when you mix 1950s Hollywood, a Cuban musician with a dream, and one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time. You get Desi Arnaz, a trailblazer, a businessman, a husband,
Starting point is 00:16:13 and maybe most importantly, the first Latino to break prime time wide open. I'm Wilmer Valderama, and yes, I grew up watching him, probably just like you and millions of others. But for me, I saw myself in his story. From plening canary cages to this night here in New York, it's a long ways. On the podcast starring Desi Arnaz and Wilmer Valderrama, I'll take you in a journey to Desi's life, the moments it has overlapped with mine,
Starting point is 00:16:37 how he redefined American television and what that meant for all of us watching from the sidelines, waiting for a face like hours on screen. This is the story of how one man's spotlight lit the path for so many others and how we carry his legacy today. Listen to starring Desi Arnaz
Starting point is 00:16:54 and Wilmer Valderrama as part of the MyCultura podcast network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Robert Smith. This is Jacob Goldstein, and we used to host a show called Planet Money. And now we're back making this new podcast called
Starting point is 00:17:09 Business History about the best ideas and people and businesses in history. And some of the worst people. Horrible ideas and destructive companies in the history of business. Having a genius idea without a need for it is
Starting point is 00:17:25 nothing. It's like not having it at all. It's a very simple, elegant lesson. Make something people want. First episode, how Southwest Airlines use cheap seats and free whiskey to fight its way into the airline business. The most Texas story ever. There's a lot of mavericks in that story.
Starting point is 00:17:41 We're going to have mavericks on the show. We're going to have plenty of robber barons. So many robber barons. And you know what? They're not all bad. And we'll talk about some of the classic great moments of famous business geniuses, along with some of the darker moments
Starting point is 00:17:53 that often get overlooked. Like Thomas Edison and the Elections Chair. Listen to business history on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. On the podcast Health Stuff, we are tackling all the health questions that keep you up at night. Yes, I'm Dr. Priyanka Wally, a double board certified physician. And I'm Hurricane Dibolu, a comedian and someone who once Googled, Do I have scurvy at 3 a.m?
Starting point is 00:18:20 On Health Stuff, we're talking about health in a different way. It's not only about what we can do to improve our health. But also what our health says about us and the way we're living. Like our episode where we look at diabetes. In the United States, I mean, 50% of... of Americans are pre-diabetic. How preventable is type 2? Extremely.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Or our in-depth analysis of how incredible mangoes are. Oh, it's hard to explain to the rest of the world that, like, your mangoes are fine because mangoes are incredible, but like, you don't even know. You don't know. You don't know. It's going to be a fun ride. So tune in. Listen to Health Stuff on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:19:05 podcasts well i mean you know you know them better than than i do or better than probably any of the viewers i mean if you had a prediction to make at this point i mean where's your head right because we're coming into this whole thing if you if you had to and you can base it off of whatever right like not if you heard something but but if you've if you've had conversations with either the ladies anytime since and i'm sure they probably kept it on the down low but you know if you had to make a choice as to who you think moves on and goes to the next level. Do you think there's an engagement? Do you think there's a
Starting point is 00:19:41 proposal? Do you think they accept? And who do you think it is? Okay. So you want my honest opinion? I do. Of course you do. That's why you're here. So I at first thought it would be Cindy. But now I've been watching it from the last episode. I think it's going to be Pegg. Because I think this is my personal opinion. I'm not sure. sure Mel is ready for an engagement. I think he, honestly, I'm taken up for him. So can we go back to the ageism thing first? Sure, sure. Let's do it. That didn't bother me. People might be upset at me, but it didn't bother me. And I'll tell you why. I sort of looked him up before I did the show, right? I kind of want to know who is this guy who might be potentially ending up with
Starting point is 00:20:30 her kissing. And he has only been married once. His wife, his ex-wife is younger, right? And honestly, I've dated younger guys. I'm not a cougar, but I've dated 10 years. And that's it. I don't date way past. I don't date in the 30s, okay? Yeah, I understand.
Starting point is 00:20:48 And most guys will tell me the same thing, that they didn't know that women out there existed like us, that were fifth, they were older. So that's why they don't gravitate towards that. And with male, being in this relationship for marriage for so long, I don't think he had any idea. So I wasn't even upset. I just thought to myself, we're going to go in there and he's going to be shocked.
Starting point is 00:21:12 And he was shocked. And, you know, he probably is going to end up with someone we hope, right, that is in our group. Yeah. So I think we did change his idea of what ageism is. So it never bothered me. And so that's kind of how I felt. in the house with that. And then you asked me, what was the other question you just asked?
Starting point is 00:21:38 Well, you were, you were going to tell me why you originally thought it was going to be Cindy and now it turned into Pegg from the last episode. Are you thinking because she's just a little more fun or she's a little more? Because I felt like Cindy is really ready for a serious relationship because of the questions that she asked. Yeah. And Peg, on the other hand, was more relaxed. And I think Mel is at a point in his life to where what he was.
Starting point is 00:22:04 wants is someone he can just really have fun with, enjoy, and the potential of it growing without maybe being pressured into making that decision at the moment. I get that. I actually get that a little bit. Yeah, I don't think personally, I don't think there, I hope there's not an engagement because I feel like he actually did the right thing. Listen, I'm not sure that he was perfect to be the bachelor because it's reality TV and I'll tell you why. Not because he doesn't talk. That's not it. It's because he's real. And he did not lead one girl on. Not one of us did he lead on. And he's still not leading anybody on. And I know America's upset because he's not talking to them. Like, oh, baby, I love you. And he does kiss a lot, okay? There's nothing wrong with
Starting point is 00:22:52 that. I might have had that same reputation back in the day. So I understand. I watched you actually. So, you know, what does that say? But he's been so respectful. And I honestly, think he's very cautious with his words. And when he says it, he's going to mean it. So I'm sort of proud of him. I mean, I do resonate. I totally can relate with him because that's kind of how I am. You know, I kind of held myself back. Honestly, as a dentist, I was sitting there thinking, my patience, I've got to really behave. What are they going to say? Right? Yeah. Yeah. But anyway, so that's how I feel. And I think that it'll probably be Peggy in the end. And I think she said something on the show about she doesn't go with for the fire. She goes for
Starting point is 00:23:40 the slow burn, which is part of pertinent to her job, right? Yeah. And it sounds like it's right up right up Mel's alley too, right? He's, like you're saying, you think he's probably into more of a slow burn right now. And listen, I was, so, I mean, watching it back and watching her take charge of that dune dungy in his face. I'm like, it was like a deer with headlights. And then Cindy, the way that she was so sweet to him when they were in the stingray,
Starting point is 00:24:10 you know, ocean with the stingrays. I would have been like him. My daughter had been stuck with the barbs on the tail. So hopefully that's brutal. I totally related to him. But, you know, he's kind of a big kind of wuss kind of.
Starting point is 00:24:27 And he's got this little soft side to him. So, like a squishy teddy bear, right? I think Pig brings out the, um, that side of him. And he can't dance. You would think he could dance. He can't dance. But he's really nice. And he looks great in a swim suit.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Yeah, he does. Man, he's still ripped. I got to say, well, to that, to all your all's credit, I mean, I will say, you know, um, no matter what, I mean, and I was, as you know, because you watch the season on Trist this season, I came on. I had just had reconstructive needs. surgery, all this of that stuff. I was 20 pounds heavier. Then I came back on The Bachelor, and everybody's like, oh, wow, he isn't just a fat hog. You know, you got to get in a bathing suit
Starting point is 00:25:09 so often on that damn show. You better be ready for it. So, you know, you all looked great. Mel looked great. I mean, he is still, he's still ripped. I bet he could still get out there and do something on the football. I will tell you, I forgot that we were going to be in bathing suits, right? And so I just threw it in a bathing suit. It was from college. And my daughter, my daughter saw the episode, she goes, Mommy, you had that student college. And I said, I know. Hey, great thing you can fit in it, right? A lot of people, you know, not about to say the same thing. Well, all right. So we talked earlier. Obviously, you made a big splash. I mean, even Whoopi Goldberg talked about, you know, your partner in crime that you, that you walk around
Starting point is 00:25:50 with. And I actually was asking our producers before the show. I'm like, hey, I just came to realize I've been looking all over at Dr. Alani's, you know, interviews and stuff. I've never heard what your alter ego's name is or what your, what your sidekick's name is. Does he have a name? First of all, he's a she. Oh, but there you go. I didn't know. All right.
Starting point is 00:26:11 She has a boyfriend now. Oh, my gosh. She's dating. Doll on Women's Tell All. Justi brought out his puppet and gave Carly a rose. So her name's Carly. Carly, okay. I will tell you, I was more upset because I'm a pretty good ventriloquist.
Starting point is 00:26:26 And I was moving my lips like nobody's. business when I was out of the limo because I was so damn nervous. And so someone sends me a clip and it's Whoopi Goldberg and her sidekicks, you know, talking about the interim limo exits. Her sidekicks. Yeah. And I was one of them. And they just slammed me. And it just, I was laughing, but it sort of made me mad. I understand that. I was more upset at myself because I was moving my damn lips. And I thought, yeah, they were right. We often think we know our type in dating. Tall, funny, a certain job, but the research shows we're usually not the best predictors of who will actually make us the happiest. As we often
Starting point is 00:27:14 say on the Happiness Lab, our minds lie to us about all kinds of stuff. And that definitely includes the kinds of things we need to be happy in a relationship. From plenty canary cages to this night here in New York, it's a long ways. On the podcast starring Desi Arnaz and Wilmer Valderrama, I'll take you in a journey to Desi's life, the moments it has overlapped with mine, how he redefined American television,
Starting point is 00:29:23 and what that man for all of us watching from the sidelines, waiting for a face like hours on screen. This is the story of how one man's spotlight lit the path for so many others and how we carry his legacy today. Listen to starring Desi Arnaz and Wilmer Valderrama. That's part of the MyCultura podcast network available on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Robert Smith.
Starting point is 00:29:46 This is Jacob Goldstein, and we used to host a show called Planet money. And now we're back making this new podcast called Business History about the best ideas and people and businesses in history. And some of the worst people, horrible ideas and destructive companies in the history of business. Having a genius idea without a need for it is nothing. It's like not having it at all. It's a very simple, elegant lesson. Make something people want. First episode, How Southwest Airlines Use Cheap Seats and Free Whiskey. to fight its way into the airline business. The most Texas story ever.
Starting point is 00:30:23 There's a lot of mavericks in that story. We're going to have mavericks on the show. We're going to have plenty of robber barons. So many robber barons. And you know what? They're not all bad. And we'll talk about some of the classic great moments of famous business geniuses,
Starting point is 00:30:35 along with some of the darker moments that often get overlooked. Like Thomas Edison and the electric chair. Listen to business history on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The Big Take podcast from Bloomberg News dives deep into one big global business story every weekday. A shutdown means we don't get the data, but it also means for President Trump that there's no chance of bad news on the labor market. What does a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich reveal about the economy?
Starting point is 00:31:07 Our breakfast foods are consistent consumer staples, and so they sort of become outsize indicators of inflation. What's behind Elon Musk's trillion-dollar payout? There's a sort of concerted effort to message that Musk is coming back. He's putting politics aside. He's left the White House. And what can the PCE tell you that the CPI can't? CPI tries to measure out-of-pocket costs that consumers are paying for things, whereas the PCE index that the Fed targets is a little bit broader of a measure.
Starting point is 00:31:40 Listen to the big take from Bloomberg News every weekday afternoon. on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Well, I saw an interview of you recently where you were doing Carly, and your lips did not move at all. No, my lips do not move. Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:04 And, you know, everybody thinks, I had a lot of people online saying, oh, you should have gotten rid of the damn puppet. Listen, the puppet was not with me, most of the time at all. I didn't see the puppet at the pool party, by the way. No, I didn't see that. I put her, right now she's been hiding in the closet since she's been back.
Starting point is 00:32:23 She's so upset. But, you know, I've been doing it so that was nine. It's just something fun. And I thought it would be really cool to slap him with my puppet to address the ageism comment because I was going to slap him. And that was actually for all the women in the United States that were upset. So Carly was basically taking, take it. She took it upon herself to make sure Mel knew that America was not happy with him.
Starting point is 00:32:48 Can we meet Carly? Can we actually meet it? Yes, I have her right here. Oh, my gosh. I'm so excited. We've been talking so much about her. Hold on. Here she is.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Oh, my God. Carly, hi. Oh, you're only goodness. It's so fun to see it. You don't be sexy, too. Oh, Carly, come on. You have a boyfriend. How old is Carly?
Starting point is 00:33:12 I don't know how old she is. How old are you? How old are you think you are? Really? 20. I don't know. There you go, 20. So in one year, in a year, you can go out for cocktails. But until then, and Carly, I'll give you a holler. We'll go grab a cocktail in a year. What? Every time you are really hunting, Carly, be careful. Behave. Behave. Geez, I'm blushing, Carly. You probably can't tell, though. Oh, my goodness. So, Carly, what do you think of Whoopi Goldberg talking about you and Dr. Terry Alani like that?
Starting point is 00:33:47 You know what? If she, my mom is the problem, if she would keep their nash, I wouldn't be in this mess, literally. No, you wouldn't. That's very true. So you started doing this at nine. Yeah. And so you, I mean, you brought up your age so I can say that you've been doing, Carly has been, is Carly your only?
Starting point is 00:34:09 I don't know, your only doll that you've had throughout that. No, I've got like five. But Carly's the favorite. So the way it started is I would do, I've got this really weird creative side to me. And I started doing puppet shows for all the kids in the neighborhood. When my kids were little, I would drive them crazy. I mean, my son still has this damn raccoon that I bought him because I gave it a voice and he won't throw the raccoon away. So then I just started doing it.
Starting point is 00:34:38 I don't know. When I was younger, I saw, it was on the Ed Sullivan show. There was Jerry Pony doll. And my parents bought me a doll and I taught myself. And I do have with my patient sometime and stuff. Some people find it creepy. I think it's hilarious. He doesn't know what I was saying?
Starting point is 00:34:55 Really funny. Yeah. I think it's very funny. I also love, so we have something in common with you have a therapy dog that you bring in for some of your younger patients. And my dog who just passed away a couple years ago, I just adored was a therapy dog and was a service dog. And man, those are such special little partners, aren't they?
Starting point is 00:35:16 Yes, my dog. I'm fat, my dog's downstairs right now. I rescued her. Name's Piper. And she, you know, she's part kit, part lab. And she basically has been trained. She jumps on the patient's lap. So you might have seen it on my social media.
Starting point is 00:35:30 But they asked for her. She has her own little picture in the office. And people come in and literally ask for her. And she just lays there. she's not afraid of the drill she's not afraid of anything yeah my my dog phoebe we used to take her into children's hospitals and she'd climb right up in bed with the with the patients wouldn't bite the tubes wouldn't bite the wires you know it just lay there and it was just she's really special so i i when i saw that about you and piper i thought that was pretty pretty incredible and i know that i know the
Starting point is 00:35:59 kind of bond you must have with her is pretty spectacular listen here's my goal all right bob my goal is to get the picture of my dog off my screen phone and substitute it with a man that's my goal because i love dogs but it's time it's time yeah we want the man on that phone not to be a dog right we wanted to be a good dude so we're going to find that for you well i love i love that you gave us this time today thank you so much for talking with us and thanks for allowing yourself to you know open up about some of this stuff Do you think, coming away from the show, do you think some of these friendships are going to last a lifetime for you? Oh, my gosh. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:39 So, you know, I'm super close with Roxanne, with Debbie, with Cindy, with Pegg, and Carol. And I love all of them. I mean, but, and Amy. And those are the girls that I've just really created more of a bond with. I don't know it's because we have more. Oh, and Monica P. Don't forget Monica P. Oh, yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:36:58 She's a dentist. She's a dentist. The bicep. Bicep. Bice. Oh, yes. Yes. So, and I, I mean, I like all of them. There's none of them that I don't consider myself being friends with. So it is, and you know what the interesting part is, we were only there for a short time, but we had such an amazing experience, a bond, and people asked me what I do it again. And the answer is 1,000 percent, yes, I would do it again. And I probably
Starting point is 00:37:29 would navigate myself a little bit differently, maybe be a little bit more vulnerable. But at the end of the day, I'm really glad who Mel is, you know, his two remaining cast members are because, you know, I'm just happy. I'm, I'm a sister girl. So if they're all happy, then I'm going to back up and just let them shine. Well, and I mean, wouldn't you be happy to, I mean, your edit was, you know, the way that you were portrayed on the show and the way that you came off of the show had to be kind of, I was, I would be happy about that if I were you. You came off, obviously very professional, lovely, you know, with a fun sense of humor and a great bond with a lot of the ladies. I mean, I think if you really look back on it, the time served as far as how long you were there
Starting point is 00:38:12 doesn't always tell the whole story, right? Like, there's a lot more to it. Yeah, you know, I was surprised at the end of, I was happy. I don't think they showed my super fun, fun, fun side of me, which you're kind of seeing now. But the only complaint I had, one complaint, is in the Women Tell All, they did edit out the truth. So we were doing two lies in a truth. And in Women Tell All, they were doing little snippets of what we said. And they had a little snippet. And I said I dated three men in three different cities at the same time.
Starting point is 00:38:47 Right. And that's all they showed. Was that the lie? Was that one of the lies? Yes. But I was so quick to say it. So it was my turn to do two lies in a truth. and I was so quick to say that.
Starting point is 00:38:59 But the truth was, I did the polar plunge in Antarctica. And so my daughter called me, my friends text me, they go, we didn't know you did that. And I go, I didn't. That was one of the lies. That was probably the only thing. But other than that, yeah, I was proud of the edit. I mean, you know, a lot of people go, well, you didn't have a relationship with Mel at all. But actually, Mel and I got along pretty well.
Starting point is 00:39:24 And so, you know, You know, the edits don't always show everything, but I think they portrayed me in a pretty good light. I think so. I think they respected the fact that you were a professional coming on there too. And, you know, nothing on there would have been damaging or, you know, and speaking of which, I mean, because you came off of that show as being such a fun and, you know, obviously accomplished person, how has your dating life been since the show? Like, have you been having been keeping a low-key? You know, I'm just so busy right now with my practice and my life. But I will tell you, I have a lot of people reaching out to me.
Starting point is 00:40:03 And they're all like 30s and 40s. My son's 37. That is not happening. That's gross. They're just so young. And then I have people coming out of the woodwork that I used to date and whatever. And no, that's not happening either. So, yeah, I mean, my, what are you, DMs?
Starting point is 00:40:20 Yeah, they're sliding into your DMs. Yeah, but I'm pretty pig. Nikki. And right now I'm really just kind of enjoying, you know, going through the season and we'll see what happens. But yeah, I'm super open to a relationship. That's why I did the darn show, right? Right, right. Yeah. Well, when you got as much energy as you do, and I mean, I think, you know, probably wouldn't be too far out of the realm of possibilities to say you might end up dating a guy a little bit younger than you. Oh, yeah. You know, I think they probably have to be to keep up with you, you know. Yeah, probably in their 60s. I'm available.
Starting point is 00:40:54 So there you go. Okay. Well, now America knows. We're putting it back out there. Dr. Terry Alani's back on the market. You don't have to, you don't have to have a date for Carly because she's already taken. Yeah. So you just need to show up ready to try and handle Dr. Taylor. And I won't bring Carly on the date. I promise. Okay. That's good. Only by special request, right? Yeah. Well, hey, thank you so much for making a time. We'll have a threesome. We'll have a three. Oh, there you go. There's our, there's our headline. I know it now. I know all our producers work. We're ready to go.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Well, thank you so much for making the time for us. It was an absolute pleasure. I think you're probably going to, I think the next time we talk, we'll be meeting whoever that special guy is that you, you know, have ended up with. And I've got your prediction here. I've got that we think it's going to be Pegg.
Starting point is 00:41:41 And that you don't think there'll be an engagement, but you think that he and Peg will date for. I don't think there'll be an engagement. I think he's playing it smart. Yeah. You know, he hadn't been divorced that long. And that takes a lot of time to heal. And I think that he and Pegg will have an amazing relationship and just enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:42:04 Yeah, like normal people do, right? It takes time to get to know someone. And that's what I think will happen. Well, and it seemed like your season filmed pretty quickly, too. Like, I think normally, I mean, it kind of went back to the time frame of when I was doing the show. And I was The Bachelor 20-some years ago, it was like we were there, I think, a total of six weeks. That's from beginning all the way to the very end.
Starting point is 00:42:27 You know, and in years past, they've traveled internationally. They've done all this kind of stuff where the whole cast goes. And, you know, and so they're out there for a little bit longer than that. But, I mean, this one was a real fast season. Yeah, half of us were eliminated, you know, in the first two episodes. So it was, you know, the only regret I have is I wish that most of us had been shown more of how we were. living in the house in our conversations there were so many beautiful moments yeah and um you know it's just the way it was it was produced so it's all good i mean i'm i'm happy with the outcome
Starting point is 00:43:04 and i can't believe it's been 20 years since you've been the bachelor yeah 22 actually isn't that crazy oh you still look young oh thank you well me dr terry maybe i'm taking after you a little bit you surely don't you surely don't look 72 and i think uh you know your accomplishments and I mean, and I, not that 72 looks like anything specifically. No, hey, look, I get it. Listen, for me, I thought people, you know, we're all bent over and stuff after 50. Me too.
Starting point is 00:43:34 Me too. I lost all their teeth after 50. So it doesn't even phase me. I mean, I'm just, I hope I can be a role model for a lot of women to say, hey, you just keep, and I'm still practicing. Just keep that energy, keep that attitude, and you can really go far, you know, in your golden years. That's what it's all.
Starting point is 00:43:53 Well, and you've made a big difference in your community already with being the Texas Tooth Lady. And then also, of course, you know, getting a little profile on a national television show doesn't hurt to show people who you are. And you've done a great job with it. So congratulations on such a great run with the Golden series. And I wish you nothing but happiness and the best. All right. I enjoyed it. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:44:14 Thank you, Dr. Terry. Thanks, Carly. And she said, Johnny, the kids didn't come home last night.
