Starting point is 00:02:40 Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. This is the almost famous podcast with Iheart Radio. Hi everybody. This is Trista with the Almost Famous OG podcast and unfortunately Bob can't be here today, but I had to take the reins because I could not, of course, allow for this interview to not happen with Joan and Chalk. Hi, guys. Congratulations. Thank you. I'm so excited. I mean, I, of course, have talked to Joan, but hi, Chalk.
Starting point is 00:03:12 It's so nice to meet you, officially. I've heard a lot of good things about it. Oh, well, right back at you. Welcome officially, not officially, because you've been part of it for, you know, however long you guys were filming. but to our big crazy bachelor nation family. I love having you as part of it. It's a great addition. Let me tell you.
Starting point is 00:03:33 He is a great addition. Oh my gosh. Are you guys having so much fun today? We are. Yeah, yeah. Well, you know, at the end of the day, we're hopping on a plane and going to New York. So this has been a great. The press store has been amazing.
Starting point is 00:03:44 We've talked to everybody. We're so happy to be on with you because you and I go way back. But the rest of this weekend is just about us having fun. Okay. So how is it going? How has it been being out in public? For the first time, I guess, you've had a couple days now. How is it? How is it? How's it going?
Starting point is 00:04:04 It's a complete different lifestyle than what I was ever expecting. After the finale, they moved us to a new hotel, and Joan's getting out of the vehicle, and these two ladies go, I know who you are. We're fans. We're fans. So it's actually great to just get on with our, what we want is a normal life. And you probably went through that as well. But we want to spend time with family. We want to go out to dinner. We want to just...
Starting point is 00:04:29 The first time ever, we rode in a car together yesterday. And we did a lot of press yesterday. So, like, last night was the first time we were really kind of out together. We went out to dinner. We just had a normal dinner with some of his friends that were in town for the finale. And, like, today, we're going to get on an airplane together and, like, actually be able to be on the same airplane and maybe even sit together. I'll probably fall asleep on his shoulder. We have a long ride to New York City.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Aw, I love it. And are you guys going apartment shopping or condo shopping or house shopping or yes? On Monday. Joan has it all set up. I love it. It's a filter Monday. Yeah, we're just going to enjoy the weekend. And then Monday we're going to get to work and see what we can find.
Starting point is 00:05:09 I am so excited for you. I know when we talked to Joan, you were so excited to be able to start your life together. And this is amazing. I'm just so happy for you. And of course, I don't know if you were. Did you watch the episode, Chalk, as it was happening? The finale? The episode, the season.
Starting point is 00:05:30 The whole season. Did you watch the season? We did watch. Well, we watched together one. We watched the Disneyland. And after Disneyland, it was all over. It didn't make any difference. But the other day, the rest of him watched on his own.
Starting point is 00:05:42 And I would talk to him usually in the morning, like, what did you think? Because it's hard to watch, you know, me date other people. But he's always been, like, super confident. So we never had any problems. But we got to watch the Disneyland date together. which was really fun because whoever gets to watch, like, their first date unfolded in front of them and watch it on TV. Yeah. It's true. So, Chalk, I don't know if you know my history, but I met my husband Ryan on the show and we've been married. We'll be married 21 years in December. And we watched the finale together, right? So we're going to do Good Morning America Press, you know, all the press in the morning the next day. And we're watching the finale. And he had stopped watching the episodes after a certain point because he was like, I just, I just don't like watching it. You know, why would I watch it? I know what happens. So we're watching in the hotel room and, you know, they made it seem like I was going to pick the other guy, because
Starting point is 00:06:35 of course they have to, you know, make it, you know, surprising. And he turned to me in our hotel room and he goes, um, so are you going to pick Charlie? Is there like someone going to open the door? He thought that was still a positive. That shows how cute and innocent he is. The benefit that I had, Trista, is that I knew the guy's so well. you know, and if she was going to date someone, at least I knew, and they were friends. So it made it, you know, some of it you just don't want to see, but it is part of it. Yeah. And don't have it with so much class.
Starting point is 00:07:12 And there was one time it bothered me a little bit. One of the guys came back from a date, and he was just glowing, just absolutely glowing. And, you know, I feel that I had this connection. I thought I did. And I'm going, maybe it wasn't as strong as I thought it was. But, you know, it all worked out. it all worked out it always does right um so is there anything that didn't get aired on the show that you wish would have been shown for whatever reason i thought i thought they did a great job
Starting point is 00:07:44 especially when my mother passed and i want to give kudos out to a bc because they handled it with dignity and respect for me 100%. The one thing with me because uh the connection with joan I wish they could have shown a little bit more of the relationship I had with the guys. Yeah. But, you know, they've only had so many hours to film and all that. And I was on the show a lot. But the guys, great relationships. And with this party that we had, after the finale, we had eight of the guys there,
Starting point is 00:08:16 and then six of the ladies from the Golden Bachelor show that were there. So, you know, we're all friends, and it's just part of the journey. But, you know, it's still a TV show. we all keep in contact the guys, and I thought they did a really good job of putting it together. Yeah, yeah. You know, you know how much film that they have, it's just, you know, 15 hours a day. You know, I think that Bachelor Nation doesn't realize how hard it is and how long the days are. We all, you know, we all look fresh and, you know, like we just got out of bed and we had a good night's sleep.
Starting point is 00:08:48 You know how hard the journey is. You have a lot of sleepless nights because you're dealing with a lot of emotions and they're late nights anyway, and then you're getting up early, and I don't think anybody realizes how difficult it is. And I'm not sure that makes good TV, but I think that, you know, there's, as you know, there's a lot of social media and you get a lot of hits from people, and I don't think anybody realizes how hard it was doing it. And, you know, you have the emotional side, you have tired, you're missing your family, you don't have the support from, you know, the outside people, your friends and family that you
Starting point is 00:09:18 normally have. Nobody sees any of that, and they don't get, you know, like, what a difficult journey this really is. Totally. I agree. I feel like I fell asleep on more dates than I didn't. Like fell asleep. I love that. That's hilarious. Because I was so exhausted. You're exhausted. I mean, I do. I do. It's funny because Ryan and I went to SeaWorld on a date. And I remember I was in the limo and I literally fell asleep in his lap in the limo. I love that. Like so sorry. Now you get to do that. You get to do that.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Tonight, you can go to New York and fall asleep in his lap. I'll see him on his shoulder on the plane. I love it. What are you guys doing for the holidays? Going to Maryland for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. And with my kids living on the East Coast, that's going to be the best and the easiest place for us to all meet. Yeah. So we're looking forward to it.
Starting point is 00:10:11 We're going to have all of Jones family, my family there. Yeah. Yeah. My kids are so excited about hanging out with his kids. Like this concept of having like stepbrother and sister is really fun. And they've already connected a lot. They talk, the girls definitely talk. My two daughters and his daughter have found, like, a love of shopping and dirty martini.
Starting point is 00:10:30 So they're looking for a divinies. That is awesome. Where are your kids? How far are they from where Joan lives? They're in Charlotte. And actually, this one really shown on the show is I have a brother and sister-in-law and nephew that live in D.C. area. So, you know, there was a connection. it right away. So, I mean, you know, he has more than one person to come see when he comes to
Starting point is 00:10:56 Maryland. That's right. And you guys are going to keep, are you going to keep your houses in Maryland and Kansas? Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean, you know, I have kids and grandkids there. You know, I'm not leaving them. And he has a business and a million friends there, even though his kids have left, he still has a life in Kansas. So, you know, I'm looking forward to going there. I never thought I'd utter those words that I'm dying to go to Kansas, but I am. It'll It's going to be fun. So have you made your plans for when you're going to visit Disney World? Not yet.
Starting point is 00:11:24 You know, that's a lot of logistics. You have big families. I have three grandkids, three kids, with his kids also. Yeah, that's going to be a logistical nightmare that I will work out. Yep. But we can't, you know, I'm thinking maybe spring breakish because, you know, boomers in school. That's why I can't just take him out my grandson. So spring break time, like it feels like that might be the best time.
Starting point is 00:11:45 But then we're going to have to schedule two weeks prior to where we can and just sleep and rest up. Because this is one actor, I think. It is Disney World, you know. And with grandkids, it's going to be hectic. Yeah. It will be hectic, but I'm sure you both will embrace it. It's just going to be so much fun, like so much joy.
Starting point is 00:12:03 That place is full of joy. One trick that I have for Disney is you just throw the rules out the window. And this is more for your kids, but, and for their kids, throw the rules out the window and just give them as much sugar as they can handle, you know? we agree they're going to be tired at the end of the day no matter what because it's Disney World so it doesn't matter yeah totally only agree with you mountain dew mountain do and skittles and all the like Mickey uh you know the the things that are shaped like Mickey like the ice cream cones and all of that everything is shaped like Mickey
Starting point is 00:12:39 all that I love it yeah whatever you want okay so they did not cover this on the after the final Rosa the finale, which was fine. But a lot of people are talking, Bob and I were talking about it after your finale for who you think would be the next Golden Bachelor if they end up doing Golden Bachelor. What are your thoughts? Who would you want to nominate? We're both in agreement to this, Trista, that there's eight guys that you could put in a hat and pull out a name. I don't really think there's a frontrunner. Everyone has their unique personality. and, you know, their skill sets and their love language and all that. You've got Charles L. who America absolutely loves.
Starting point is 00:13:25 Love him. Absolutely. You've got Mark, who is just the best man in the world. The issue there, though, is. He's now on a relationship, or at least it's been reported. He's in a relationship. That's his story. Got it.
Starting point is 00:13:37 And you've got Jordan with his personality. You've got the flamboyant, Pascal. You have all these unique personalities. Dr. Bob would be a hoot. Oh, he's so sweet. hilarious. And Jack was at the party. Everyone has fun with Jack and Keith, the girl dad. Everybody loves him. He might be embarrassed that I say this nationally, but he was out with my daughter till like 4 o'clock in the morning the other night after the party. After the party,
Starting point is 00:14:01 we're out after the finale. He was out like, you know, there was a big group of them was just the two of them. There was the big group of people that. He was like, though, the last man standing when it came to the Goldens. Yes. That is so cute. Oh my gosh. It makes me so jealous because, you know, Joan and I were talking about whether or not I would be able to come to the finale. And I'm so sorry I couldn't be there, but, you know, Mommy Duty calls. And I wish I could have been there. And I would have stayed out until 4 a.m. with Jack and your daughter and whomever. With Keith and Taylor, I know.
Starting point is 00:14:35 It was fun. It was a fun night. I had a hard time coming home. I would have stayed out to 4 a.m. But we had to, I had to be up at 5.30 for glam squad because we had press all day. so I wouldn't have been very pretty if I had stayed out. Of course. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly,
Starting point is 00:14:54 and now I'm seriously suspicious. Oh, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, My boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school, policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we
Starting point is 00:15:32 find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enia Umanzor. And I'm Drew. Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD, oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. Imagine that you're on an airplane and all of a sudden,
Starting point is 00:16:15 hear this. Attention passengers. The pilot is having an emergency and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane. Think you could do it? It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control. And they're saying like, okay, pull this, do this, pull that, turn this. It's just, I can do it my eyes close. I'm Manny. I'm Noah. This is Devin. And on our new show, no such thing, we get to the bottom of questions like these. Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence. Those who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise. And then as we try the whole thing out for real.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Wait, what? Oh, that's the run right. I'm looking at this thing. Listen to no such thing on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Super Secret Bestie Club Podcast Season 4 is here. And we're locked in. That means more juicy cheesement. Terrible love advice.
Starting point is 00:17:19 Evil spells to cast on your ex. No, no, no, no, no, we're not doing that this season. Oh, well, this season, we're leveling up. Each episode will feature a special bestie, and you're not going to want to miss it. Get in here! Today we have a very special guest with us. Our new super secret bestie is The Deva of the People. The Deva of the People.
Starting point is 00:17:40 I'm just like, text your ex. My theory is that if you need to figure out that the stove is hot, go and touch it. Go and figure it out for yourself. Okay. That's us. That's us. My name is Curley. And I'm Maya.
Starting point is 00:17:53 In each episode, we'll talk about love, friendship, heart rates, men, and, of course, our favorite secrets. Listen to the Super Secret Bestie Club as a part of the Michael Tura podcast network available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security? prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth. Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training.
Starting point is 00:18:38 These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:19:06 or wherever you get your podcasts. Okay. What are your freaking beauty secrets? Because my, you're just stunning. And I say this all the time. I am 52 years old. You're 61 years old. I'm not too far behind you, but I feel like you look younger than me. So what are your secrets? Can you share anything? I appreciate you asking me about my baby. It's very important to me. I have this routine. Your eyes or voice. No, mine is, let's be serious, Botox and filler, okay? Yeah, right. Me too. And then you always see after I've had Glam Squad, so really good makeup, let's be honest. There it is.
Starting point is 00:19:57 It's out there now. Glam squads. And you know what else? Lighting. Lighting is a girl's best friend. Yeah, did light. I look so much better. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Oh, yeah, yeah. Got to have the lighting. I'm beautiful on candlelight. So what is one? surprising thing that you've learned about each other after the show has ended or after filming ended you want me to start well the good thing is he doesn't snore um okay that's a bonus that's yeah thank goodness um you know what i learned about like what a caregiver he is and you know it's hard to find out certain things on the show there's no you know way that it would be exemplified um
Starting point is 00:20:36 but i found out really early on we were having a conversation and i was you know since I was concerned about something that was happening with one of my kids. And next thing I know, I'm getting texts from him and calls and saying, you know, he's like solved it. You know, he's called on his resources and made a couple calls. And all of a sudden, like, wheels are in motion and he's fixed it. And he's just such a caregiver and solver. I had to do some work. We were on a happy couple of visits and I had to do a little work that day for a bachelor.
Starting point is 00:21:04 And I came back to the house and he's standing there with a glass of wine in the driveway. and he's made our whole dinner for us that night. So he's just like such a giver and a caregiving, you know, like a solver and a fixer. And like, you just want to take good care of me. And I love that. Love it. I will tell you that I knew Joan was smart, but she's actually almost Metsa smart or Metsa smart. She is that smart.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Absolutely. And then the other thing, too, is I caught some flack on the show for being competitive. Okay. Okay. She is, I'm at this level of competitiveness. She's up. I was so surprised. And it actually happened last night at the restaurant because we were talking about it. Oh, this is funny. The two ladies are calling their Uber's. One goes, mine's coming in five minutes. Mine's coming in four. I was like, mine's in four. I beat you. I was kidding. It was all, it was all fun. But she is competitive. Very good. Yeah, I know. My kids used to say they're like, you never let us win. I'm like, no, not letting you win. Why would I let you win? Like, man up. That's how you become a good athlete or, you know, whatever. That's right.
Starting point is 00:22:09 I wouldn't keep teaching you anything as your mom. That's so funny. Okay, so because I was the first to have a wedding on television, I have to ask the question. Would you consider televising your wedding? Would you recommend it? I would. Actually, I love that question. Yes.
Starting point is 00:22:30 So obviously. you know, with what happened with Gary and Teresa, I know that it's kind of like, and that was the most recent one, you know, there's not bad vibes because it was such a beautiful day. And hopefully people would just remember that. It was beautiful. You know, it was a beautiful day. It was truly about love. And even just Bachelor Nation coming together, I just, I loved their wedding. I would say that for me, It was a dream come true. So the princess in you, Joan, and I know that princess is there, would thoroughly enjoy, you know, being able to be like, okay, who would I want my dress done by? Oh, Badgley Mishka? Okay, great. We'll make that happen. You know, like, I'd love to work with Mindy Weiss.
Starting point is 00:23:22 In my real world before that, there was no way I was ever going to be working with Mindy Weiss or getting a dress from Badgley Mishka. So it is like dreams coming true situation for the princess in you. Now, obviously, if cameras were a problem with you chalk, I know they're not a problem with Joan because she's, you know, a pro and we've talked about it and, you know, live through it. And because I was a lead, I know how that goes. But if cameras are a problem, then maybe it's not for you. If the publicity is a problem, maybe it's not for you.
Starting point is 00:23:56 But I feel like it's a beautiful way to shout it. from the rooftops, you know? Like, you can still do that in a private way, but it is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that not everyone gets to experience it. So why not, you know, have fun with it and take advantage. Like, as a viewer, so I watched your season many, many years ago, like, probably the first one I actually watched. I remember, like, how important it was to see the ending and that you guys actually got married. I can remember the moment. honestly. I, you know, I watch very few weddings. I've watched Princess Diana. You know, I've watched, you know, just a few big ones. Yours is up there with Princess Diana. I actually,
Starting point is 00:24:38 you know, tuned in specifically to watch you get married. And I think that that is kind of kind of part of the journey that people have watched us come to this point and then to like leave them at the curb and not do the wedding in front of them might not be the right thing to do. You know, there's a part of me that also thinks I want it to be an intimate moment with just our family and friends, but the other part of me, the princess part of me, thinks like this big epic wedding movie really fun. And it's also maybe the right thing to do for Bachelor Nation. Yeah. How do you feel, Cha? When, wear, suit, or tucks? Yeah. Those are the typical guy. Typical guy. That's totally my husband. He's like, I don't want to be part of
Starting point is 00:25:18 anything. I just, just tell me where to be and what to wear. You're so insane. So would you do a live, if you did the wedding on television, that's one thing. But a live wedding, which is something that I did not have, how do you feel about that? Because it's like in the moment and, you know, I don't know, there's got to be some stress associated with that. Yeah, I didn't know that it was a choice not to do it live. I thought they were always like. Oh, no, not mine. And not, actually not most of them. I don't think, I don't think Sean and Catherine's. I don't think, I don't think theirs was live. Maybe I'm wrong.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm wrong. I could totally be wrong. I don't know. The benefit of live versus not live. Not live probably sounds easier. It sounds less intimidating. There's another take.
Starting point is 00:26:07 You know, you're not live TV, as you know, is scary. You know, what you put out there is there forever. Right. So, yeah, I would say taped. Orjobe malfunction. It's out there. It's done. The whole world has seen it now.
Starting point is 00:26:21 So I think tapes probably sounds more comfortable, but maybe live since this whole journey has been live. Maybe it's like less, well, it's not really live. So it's, you know, it's a, it's a tape show. Yeah, I don't know. I have no idea. That's a good question. I didn't know as an option. So I got to think about that. Oh, yeah. Okay. So when you answered yes, on, a wedding, you thought it was just going to be live, period. Yeah. Who would you want to have your dress done by? Probably Randy Rahm. So she's done all, yes, of course. All my, all the Rose ceremony dresses and even others as I wore. Yes. I love Randy Rom. She actually came to the finale. Yes. That's awesome. So I, oh, God, it would be a dream to come true to have a Randy
Starting point is 00:26:59 Rom dress for me. She does make beautiful gowns. All of everything that you wore was just stunning. Other than you finding chalk, obviously, that's up there. Top, top of the list. But I'm sure wearing Randy Rom's gorgeous creations is up there too. Did you get to keep anything? Not any of the Randy Ram stuff.
