Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. I was diagnosed with cancer on Friday and cancer-free the next Friday. No chemo, no radiation, none of that. On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us podcast, I sat down with Warren Campbell, Grammy-winning producer, pastor, and music executive to talk about the beats, the business, and the legacy behind some of the biggest names in gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. Professionally, I started at Deadwell Records. From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, we get into the soul of the music and the purpose that
Starting point is 00:00:30 drives it. Listen to Culture raises us on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Why are TSA rules so confusing? You got a hood of you. Starting point is 00:02:12 And you might recognize I am not, I am not with my standard, my normal co-host today. I am with a special guest who is joining us, and it's not Robinson. It's Courtney Robertson, Preciado, which I think is an absolutely stunning last name. sure beats guinea, which guinea just doesn't roll off the tongue like presciaro does. But I'm so glad you could join us, Courtney. Thanks for coming on. Yeah, thanks for having me, Bob. People call me Robinson all the time and butcher my husband's name.
Starting point is 00:02:43 I'm sure you probably have some fun nickname. It's like giddy pig. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Guinea pig was the standard throughout elementary school. And then it just got, you know, then it kind of became like ginn dog, gin, all these other things. And then somebody started calling me Kid Dynamite. I think it might have been me that called myself that.
Starting point is 00:03:02 And it was like, you know, when George Costanza tried to re-nicknamed himself, T-Bone on Seinfeld, it's kind of what I did. And none of them stuck. So I'm just Bob. Just Bob is all I get. But thanks for coming on the show. And especially, I mean, you are in the throes of it right now. I mean, you have two beautiful children, your husband, Umberto Preciado.
Starting point is 00:03:23 And the two of you have two beautiful children and one. the way, right? Yeah, I've got a three and a half year old, a two year old. It's spring break in our house and everybody's sick, of course. Yeah, same. I'm starting to get sick too. And I'm like, oh my gosh, can you, can we get a break? I had all these big plans and, you know, but yeah, it's so fun. I've got another boy on the way where I'm 31 weeks, but who's counting? Wow. Yeah, who's counting, right? So what is the mix here? What do you have? You have one girl and one boy already. Thank goodness. Yeah, my son's older. He's three and a half. My daughter is two and she is just a pistol. I don't know where she gets it. Yeah, Apple didn't fall far from the tree on that. Yep.
Starting point is 00:04:06 The other day, and she's just got my husband wrapped around her finger. But the other day, I was like, I am so thankful we're having another boy. I mean, don't get me wrong. A baby's a blessing, but she's in like the terrible twos. Oh, yeah. Everything is no and the sass is real. I just, I'm like, I don't know if we could deal with another sassy baby like this. Oh, you know, so we have two boys. We have a five-year-old and a two and a half. Thank you. I've been following you for years. I have to say, I don't remember meeting you ever, but I've heard such lovely things. Oh, that's so nice. A long time ago. No, we haven't. I've actually always wanted to meet you. So it's so crazy that we have. But it's weird because I feel like I know you because I followed you for so
Starting point is 00:04:44 long. I know. I followed you when you were single to like seeing you meet your wife and then create this beautiful family. So how old are your boys and are they beating each other? they are they are constantly beating each other up is five uh well our our oldest just turned five grason turned five in december and then blake is two and a half he turned two in july of last year so he'll be three this july but he's going through it talk about your daughter with the with the you know the spiciness and he's you know every disney movie so i'm i love the disney movies and stuff but every disney movie if you if you start thinking about it and paying attention to it they're not like benign in every single movie they're like you know they're
Starting point is 00:05:25 He used the word idiot constantly. So my little two and a half year old, I literally right before we came on air, my mom's here helping me with the kids today because my wife's out of town. And I go running in to change his diaper. And he's like, no, idiot. I'm like, buddy. I'm like working hard here. Come on. Isn't it hard not to laugh?
Starting point is 00:05:41 Sometimes I have to leave the room. I'm like, oh my God, did you hear what he just said? Yeah. It's crazy. Where do they get it from? I have no idea, you know? I don't know. It's my son is everything is a bribe now.
Starting point is 00:05:54 He's like, if you give me candy, you come to my birthday party. I'm like, I have news for you. I'm throwing the birthday party. I am your birthday party, buddy. Yeah. Mommy and daddy's wallet is why you're having this party. Exactly. It was so fun. And I just, I've loved watching you have two beautiful boys.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Are you guys done, you think? Yeah. We actually thought we were pregnant about six months ago. And it was terrifying at first because I'm 53. So it's like for me to have a kid at this age, I mean, I'm 70. one when they graduate, you know, not even, not even thinking about it. But we all of a sudden thought we were pregnant. And I was like, first of all, how this happened?
Starting point is 00:06:32 Because our five-year-old sleeps in our bed almost every single night at some point or another. Yeah, you can't, I can't get them out. We're trying everything. We just bought bunk beds. It works for two nights. And we try to make it like a party. Like, it's your birthday party. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:48 And he snores. He's in our, it's hard, especially when they get bigger. Yeah. Because you know how it goes. It's like Tetris. So they're like flipping around all night. You're like, ah, I got kicked in the face the other day. I get like, yeah, as I'm going to say, in the face, the lower back.
Starting point is 00:07:02 Like, I'll wake up at 4 in the morning and just go, just get up and take a pillow to the guest room. You know, I was like, why? I need to get some time of sleep. But yeah, we thought we were pregnant. And we were excited for a second because we thought, well, maybe this would be the girl that we always wanted. Yes. But then the more I started going down the rabbit hole, I'm like, I mean, thankfully I'm young and okay shape and stuff like that. But I'm like, I'm not going to, I'm going to be 70.
Starting point is 00:07:24 one when she graduated from high school. Like, this is ridiculous. Why is it always the graduation you'd think of? I don't know. It's those 18 years. Then I'm like, am I ever not going to have to work? Like, am I ever going to be able just to stay home and enjoy some type of golden years? Probably not.
Starting point is 00:07:40 So, yeah. Well, that would be exciting. But I totally get it. I was on the fence. I'm 40 now. And my husband, like, if he was like, I'm good with two, I would have been like, perfect. We've got a boy. We've got a girl.
Starting point is 00:07:52 But it was kind of like now or never. And if it happens great, I had like two kind of miscarriages leading up to this one. So it's scary as you get older too because they treat me like geriatric. Like I have to go every two weeks now. And it's just been a lot harder this pregnancy just because I'm older and I'm chasing two little ones around. I can barely even like bend over to put my shoes on. I can only imagine. I mean, you don't, first of all, you look radiant.
Starting point is 00:08:21 You look lovely. And when my wife was 35, She gave birth to Grayson, our first. That's a good age. They literally called, they said she was geriatric then, and she was angry as a hornet. She was not happy with that. Oh, absolutely. But, you know, it's kind of nice.
Starting point is 00:08:36 They give you extra care. Yeah. Yeah, that's very true. You have to do like more, like towards N, which is kind of nice. Like you do the NST testing where you go and they monitor the baby closely. So I just put a spin on it. But yeah, it's so fun. It's honestly, it's everything I have dreamt it to be.
Starting point is 00:08:53 I mean, the days are. are long. The years are short. It's so true what they say. All the cliche things. Yeah. But I just, I just love being a mom. I really do. Clices are cliches for a reason, though, right? Like, I mean, they come from somewhere. And that's the way. I've heard that one a lot. And I, I agree with you. I swear by it. It's like, you know, I'll stay up. You know, like my one got sick the other night. And I stayed up with them all night. And then I had an appointment the next morning at 8 a.m. And I was out the door. But I was like, you know, it's like, I love them so much. And I know you feel the same way about your kids. It's like, so I'll get sleep.
Starting point is 00:09:24 later you know i'll sleep when i'm dead which for me will be much sooner than everyone else because i'm 100 no you're you're 50 years young bob come on thank you Courtney thank you very much absolutely well it's so good to connect with you you know i had a friend um in l.a jeph die and he did interview and he asked who are your favorite people from the bachelor and he said me and bob guinea i love him oh i love him he's so funny he's such he's hilarious and that's so cool that he said that Because I was literally just talking about him with a friend of mine named Mike Young, who's a comedian also. And oddly enough, they've got a project coming out together very soon where Jeff actually plays a young Mike, which is pretty cool. And, but, you know, I always love Jeff.
Starting point is 00:10:12 We had some girlfriends that were really good friends years and years and years ago, and we got to hang out at some different things. And I just, you know, when other people have like this, like, great success, like, you know, he has had and I was like so happy for him because he was one of those people that like you see him blowing up and you're like yes finally one of the good guys you know yeah well and this was a long time ago I could probably send you the interview but I thought oh that's so cool like and he's a he's just a nice guy we had mutual friends so but that's so cool I just had to mention that little name oh thank you I love it I love it well you have always been one of my favorite people from the show and I have to tell you the many
Starting point is 00:10:52 reasons why. Oh, boy. I'm ready for my compliment sandwich. Here they come. Here they come. Well, first of all, and this is what led me to this thing from last night. You are the only person from The Bachelor. And I pardon me for looking at my phone, but I want to pull this up so we can look at it together.
Starting point is 00:11:12 I do the same thing on my podcast. I'm like always looking at my note. It's so good. So this, I'm going to show this for us. Let's watch this. And then we can share our feelings on it. But these are some of, I don't know any other person from The Bachelor who's ever been turned into a, I wouldn't say it's a meme. I don't know what this would be called.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Oh, yes, I know. The Bachelor Autotune. I just hope you can hear it. Oh, you can. Good. Okay, here we go. Yeah, it's so good. I got the rose.
Starting point is 00:11:42 That's a popular one. So good. With the rose. And then they show Ben. I love it. Like, I honestly, I don't think I'd ever even seen it before until last night. I'm like, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen. Jesus, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:12:01 I can't laugh. I might pee in my pants. It's so good. But you know what's so funny is, oh, that's right. You can't, you can't even. Yeah, you can't laugh right now. But it's so good because, you know what it does? I mean, it immediately takes me back to that season.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Makes me remember all the things that you were doing on the show that I was like, oh my God, I just wish I had the nerve to say things in those moments. that you would just say you'd be like I got the road you know and it's just so good and they made an attitude it was God the memes that came out after my season and how much
Starting point is 00:12:32 I got made fun of it was like a love hate either people like me or they hated me so oh that is so funny my name is Ed everyone say hello Ed from a very rural background myself my dad is a farmer
Starting point is 00:12:51 and my mom is a cousin, so, like, it's not, like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. On 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house.
Starting point is 00:13:25 So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Have you ever wished for a change but weren't sure how to make it? Maybe you felt stuck in a job, a place, or even a relationship.
Starting point is 00:13:52 I'm Emily Tish Sussman, and on she pivots, I dive into the inspiring pivots of women who have taken big leaps in their lives and careers. I'm Gretchen Whitmer, Jody Sweeten. Monica Patton. Elaine Welter-off. I'm Jessica Voss. And that's when I was like, I got to go. I don't know how, but that kicked off the pivot of how to make the transition. Learn how to get comfortable pivoting because your life is going to be full of them.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Every episode gets real about the why behind these changes. and gives you the inspiration and maybe the push to make your next pivot. Listen to these women and more on She Pivots, now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The U.S. Open is here, and on my podcast, Good Game with Sarah Spain, I'm breaking down the players from rising stars to legends chasing history. The predictions will we see a first time winner and the pressure? Billy Jean King says pressure is a privilege, you know. Plus, the stories and events off the court, and of course, the news. The Honey Deuces, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open.
Starting point is 00:14:52 The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very fancy, wonderfully experiential sporting event. I mean, listen, the whole aim is to be accessible and inclusive for all tennis fans, whether you play tennis or not. Tennis is full of compelling stories of late. Have you heard about Icon Venus Williams' recent wildcard bids? Or the young Canadian, Victoria Mbocco, making a name for herself? How about Naomi Osaka getting back to form? To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain,
Starting point is 00:15:21 an Iheart women's sports production in partnership with deep blue sports and entertainment on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Hi, my name is Enya Emanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD...
Starting point is 00:15:50 Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. I remember during my season, which was... When was your guys season?
Starting point is 00:16:11 What bachelor number were you guys? 16. So I think it was like around 2011, which seems... Okay. Crazy. It seems like a lifetime ago. That's almost, well, mine was 2003, right? You are an OG.
Starting point is 00:16:23 That's why I love having you on the show. Yeah. Anytime. I was 2002, 2003, right? With Trista and then with my season. And so you were, you were eight years later. And it was still like the, I'm not here to make friends mantra, which I know I'm almost positive if it didn't start.
Starting point is 00:16:39 If someone didn't say that at least once on my season, I know that it was something that you just like took to the next level in a way that you were kind of like, I'm here for the guy. And this fits into my, so I have a theory about the show. And I said it for you I guarantee. I bet you agree with it. I bet you agree. So people always say, you know, you have any advice for the new bachelor? I'm like, yeah, it's not about you. And they're like, what do you mean? I go, well, if the guys go on the show and they think they're going to turn into Ben Affleck when they come off the show, they are sadly mistaken. You go on the show and you realize it has nothing to do with you. You can have a monkey hand and out of flower. It's they find 30 alphas who,
Starting point is 00:17:15 Never lose, right? They're gorgeous. They come on there. They're like, you know, hey, and it's never about, like, the guy in all of his attributes. It's about this girl is not going to lose to that chick. You know what I mean? And every girl that the cast in the show feels that way, you were just the only one who actually said it, which I think was great. I definitely got myself into some hot water with like, you know, being like, I kind of forgot the cameras were there too. But, you know, so I interviewed Brad Smith, the first Canadian Bachelor. And he said something very similar to what you just said. And he's like, the girls would have come out. And if there was a parking cone there, they would have fought over it. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I believe it. And I honestly think it is because, like, you know, let's, let's think about it, right? Like, you go through the process to get it on the show, whatever that process is for everyone. Everyone's is different. But part of it is always like this psych exam or whatever. Like, I didn't fill out an application. I didn't make a video. My scenario was a little bit different. But what I did do was when they got to that next. Yeah, totally back in the dark age i would have had to i would had to like pony express it but they um they had
Starting point is 00:18:20 to have me do the uh the psych a veil and all that kind of stuff still and all i could think of was i was like that that's for a reason and the reason is they're they're finding people who are like refused to lose type people and who have always i mean you had a successful modeling career you've done so much it's like you don't get to that point when you aren't when you don't have some type of you know motivation in you that's like burning that you're going to win and so now you're looking at these girls and you're like whatever here I come you know I love it I just love it and they were like all talking about me like I mean it was just like very and then he picked me and like so it's rare that like the villain who I didn't had no clue I was going to be the villain like
Starting point is 00:19:00 I knew I like stood up for myself I felt like it and said some sassy things but then you picked me and I was like oh now I'm the villain so it was I think Michelle money was the villain I don't know if she got picked or not but like it was a rarity like normally they don't end up with the villain of the season yeah and isn't it funny like the like you i mean i've known michel for years farthest thing from a villain ever in in real life but she tells it how it is for sure yeah she's just honest you know and i i love her so much so much so much but when you came out the show so like you and ben come off the show and you know the whole i mean first of all that meme thing or that that auto tune thing is so funny how they keep poking is headed um i need to meet the dude who did that who did
Starting point is 00:19:41 his voice by the way. I would love to. But it was like when you came off the show and you're getting all the feedback, you know, it was, was it a lot of, you know, oh my God, you know, you chose the villain or was it like I would, I've been rooting for you the whole time. Like, what were you hearing more than anything? It was a mixed bag. I mean, obviously people that knew me wanted to know how it ended and, you know, can't really tell. But as it started airy, like people either loved me or hated me. And also my season got spoiled really early on and I lived in Santa Monica. So I had paparazzi following me every day. Oh, wow. Yeah. And it was just, you know, every, the girls were talking like so badly about me on the show. And then my relationship started like as it started
Starting point is 00:20:27 airing, things were going really well between us. And then I think he kind of started being like, how are we going to, this is so crazy. Like this is really affecting our relationship. But yeah, yeah, it was a mixed bag for sure. Like I'd be walking down. the street and like I remember this like I was on Abbott Kinney and this guy looked at me and he's like you're growing on me and I'm like okay like so I just had to take it all with a grain of salt and like just knew that like it was going to all get washed out to see luckily I wrote my book about it which really felt nice for me so I could share like okay this is what was really happening this is what I was feeling this is what I was going through but yeah so it it was I mean God I'm
Starting point is 00:21:03 just glad it was a long time ago I know you and me both people are always like to me to go oh you know I haven't watched a season since yours. And I'm like, does that mean I ruined it for you? Or I set the bar so low. But you never know, because I, my fear was when they asked me to be the bachelor, was I was going to take the whole ship down. You know, like, I'm like, oh, great. You know, what's going to fail after my season?
Starting point is 00:21:25 Here it is 20 years later. And it's still kicking. So there you go. I know. And look at here you are. It's been so fun to be like in the community. And I know you guys still do like a lot of stuff and you're friends with Chris Harrison. and I think it's a good thing, you know, it's definitely, it changed my life course and I love it.
Starting point is 00:21:45 And I'm still watch the show. Are you watching the show as your wife a good sport about it? You know, so my wife, she doesn't watch the show. And it's funny because she's 40. She doesn't watch the show. She's like, I just never got into it. But it's so funny because her mom will be like, oh, we watched every episode. I'm like, hmm, interesting.
Starting point is 00:22:02 So someone's not telling the truth. But she is actually, she actually is a really good sport about it. She's the first one to say, you know, oh, here, I'll take the picture for you guys or, you know, whatever, in those moments. And my son, my five-year-old actually, has kind of taken to recently, like, I will be at like McDonald's Playland or something. And he'll come over and some people will be talking and he'll walk up and he'll go, do you know him from Bob the Builder? And they'll say, they'll go, Bob, the Builder, no. And he goes, I'm just kidding. It's from The Bachelor.
Starting point is 00:22:29 That's what you know him from, isn't it? I'm like, how does he even know what that is, you know? That is so cool. And as like you get older, it's just going to be something that. you always have. My kids don't know yet, but my nephews are older and they YouTube me. I'm like, oh my gosh, Rachel, don't let them. My sister, I'm like, don't let them watch this stuff.
Starting point is 00:22:47 That's funny. Now, do you have anyone from the show that are you still in touch with from your season or even seasons, other seasons that you're still tight with? Oh, yeah. I've made a lot of friends through other seasons especially. I've always reached out to villains that have been villain. Like, it's not villainized, but like I've just offered support. Like, if you need help, because you, you come off the show and you, like, don't know how to handle the media.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Yeah. And it's just a lot. And I've lived through it. So, like, I'm friends with Olivia Caridi. And, oh, I love Olivia. Yeah. I've run into her so many times in the Delta lounge. Oh, I bet.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Because she worked for Delta forever. And I'm like a two million mile or fly so much. And I'll see her. And I always really liked her, too. Oh, she's so great. And then obviously some of the producers, I still keep in touch with the long. on Gail and my, my producer, Amy Bean, is my best friend. That was the best thing that came from my season.
Starting point is 00:23:42 I love that. I got two really good girlfriends from my season, and we do like an annual girls trip. But yeah, like I've reached out to Maria. Like, I've reached out to a lot of people and then you just, you know, I'm doing the podcast now too. So I've really connected with a lot of people through that. Oh, I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Yeah. Congratulations on that, by the way, too. Thank you. Thank you. It's been a blast. So, yeah, no. What about you? I mean, you seem like you're pretty dialed in.
Starting point is 00:24:06 You know, it's really weird. I kind of, for a period. No, no, I live in Michigan. I moved to Michigan back home where I grew up. That's where I grew up. Yeah, I came home right before COVID. My wife's from L.A. She doesn't love the weather here at all.
Starting point is 00:24:21 But we moved back to Michigan right before COVID. And I'm so glad I did because, you know, that COVID lockdown thing happened, right? And you couldn't really go anywhere and stuff. And then my dad unexpectedly passed away during that time. And I thank my wife every day. I'm like, I know you don't love Michigan the way I do. I'm like, but you made something happen for me where my dad, who was just, you know, the love of my life, my dad got to know my boy's.
Starting point is 00:24:46 And so that to me, even though, yeah, they're like my oldest still talks about them all the time. But, you know, I don't know how long that will last, but my youngest, you know, will never, my youngest was a was a baby and my dad was holding him in as a month before he passed away. But it's one of those things that I have those moments. You know what I mean? So like those are things I wouldn't have had. otherwise. But yeah, we moved home to Michigan. And so we go back and forth a lot. Like, we still, her family is still in California. So we go back and forth a lot. But I wouldn't say
Starting point is 00:25:17 I'm really that dialed in. I would say the podcast, like the IHeart family has probably gotten me more dialed in than I ever was before. You know, we do like, they do fun events and they'll invite some people. And I always love being in that mix. And I get to know a lot of the younger people that I would never know otherwise. And all the whippers snappers. All the whippers. Oh, the whippersnappers. My name is Ed. Everyone say, hello Ed. From a very rural background myself.
Starting point is 00:25:47 My dad is a farmer and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Well, 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Have you ever wished for a change but weren't sure how to make it? Maybe you felt stuck in a job, a place, or even a relationship. I'm Emily Tish Sussman, and on she pivots, I dive into the inspiring pivots of women who have taken big leaps in their lives and
Starting point is 00:26:55 careers. I'm Gretchen Whitmer, Jody Sweetie. Monica Patton. Elaine Welterah. I'm Jessica Kavas. And that's when I was like, I got to go. I don't know how, but that kicked off the pivot of how to make the transition. Learn how to get comfortable pivoting because your life is going to be full of them. Every episode gets real about the why behind these changes and gives you the inspiration and maybe the push to make your next pivot. Listen to these women and more on she pivots now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The U.S. Open is here. And on my podcast, Good game with Sarah Spain.
Starting point is 00:27:32 I'm breaking down the players from rising stars to legends chasing history. The predictions will we see a first time winner and the pressure? Billy Jean King says pressure is a privilege, you know. Plus, the stories and events off the court and, of course, the honey deuses, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very fancy, wonderfully experiential sporting event. I mean, listen, their whole aim is to be accessible and inclusive for all 10. tennis fans, whether you play tennis or not? Tennis is full of compelling stories of late.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Have you heard about Icon Venus Williams' recent wild card bids? Or the young Canadian, Victoria Mboko, making a name for herself? How about Naomi Osaka getting back to form? To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, an IHeart Women's Sports Production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. My name is Enya Umanzor.
Starting point is 00:28:32 And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psycho babble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. I want to talk to you about this when you went on Zach's season. So we're in Vegas doing something and this beautiful Brunette walks in and sits down right next to me, you know, and they're all talking about, you know, well, here's how we got here. We took this, you know, this car and it's, you know, like a special, you know, the Hyundai, you know, Ionek or whatever. I don't know how to say it properly, but it wasn't my job to say it properly.
Starting point is 00:29:26 So I didn't have to. And the whole way through, you know, we're talking about it. And he goes, and then my boy, Bob Guinea. And she goes, the girl next to me, he goes, looks at me. She goes, who's Bob Guinea? And I looked at her and I go, oh my God, hold on, guys. And so we pointed out it was Victoria Fuller. Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:45 I love her. I do too. I thought she was so funny. In that moment, I mean, all weekend long, you know, every time I'd see her, I'd be like, oh, hi, I'm Bob Guinea, by the way. And, you know, it was just so sweet. She was so sweet about it. But it was like, she's like, who the hell is?
Starting point is 00:29:59 And I'm like, oh, that's me, the guy that you've been sitting here talking to for 20 minutes, you know? Honestly, when I did that group date with her, I don't even know if she knew who I was. So I think she must have looked me up. It was so fun. It was so fun to be brought back. Bennett's still there. He's like the only producer that was like from my time. I'm sure you've met him along the way.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Yes. Yes, I have. Nice guy. It was so fun to be on the other side. Like we had a trailer, a Victoria Fuller is so fun. And then Lotto was like the group date home. which I was like, what? It's a weird, yeah, kind of like a crazy thing.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Like, just like I, it was, it was such a blast. And for me, you know, I have two kids. I got to go to L.A. for 24 hours. Yeah. And I was tired, though, by the end of the night, I was like, oh, my gosh. Now they have to go film the night portion, which I think they filmed until like 4 a.m. Oh, my God. I was having cheeseburgers with Jesus.
Starting point is 00:30:50 I had an early flight. But I was like, yeah, brought me out of retirement. So anytime they want to have me back, I'm always down to do something like that. Absolutely. I'm so far. removed and I was just like I know I always think because I didn't you know I I wasn't I didn't I didn't propose at the end of my season so I'm always like well that that's probably why they never invite me back and then they do the golden wedding and Trista's like oh it was great I'm
Starting point is 00:31:13 sitting at this table and I'm like what the heck why weren't you there my invite got lost in the mail I think because I wasn't at that one I would have loved to go to that I would have too they dust me off every now and then but it's the I heart family that keeps me in the mix so I appreciate that more than anything so oh well it's a good family to be And I love Amy. She's, she's the bomb. Sugarman is it. It is all, she's it.
Starting point is 00:31:34 I wish I had half of her energy and just, she's brilliant. You know a great story about her. And I tell us all the time. So I hope I don't, I hope I don't get her in trouble by telling this story. Well, you can always delete it. That's the beauty. Oh, that's true. That's true.
Starting point is 00:31:48 Yep. So yeah. So when I was on the show, when I came off the show, I had a little bit of legal wrangling to contend with. But in that moment, you know, I was a musician when I went on The Bachelor. and I wasn't allowed to talk about that while it was like in this whole thing. And the only person who brought it up on air was Ryan Seacrest because of Amy Sugarman. And so then I could talk about it. And I'm like, God, I love Amy Sugarman.
Starting point is 00:32:11 But it was awesome. You know, she's always been that kind of person. She looks out for everybody. And yeah, I adore her. But, well, I love that you got asked back. Maybe they'll ask me back someday. Oh, my gosh. They absolutely should.
Starting point is 00:32:23 What about the Golden Bachelorette? You'd be a shoe in. I thought I would be the right guy for it. I mean, I was probably the same age as Gary. Well, you could go in there. No, but you could go on in the Golden Bachelor and you could help the guys. You know, yeah, oh, that's right.
Starting point is 00:32:36 The Golden Bachelorette's coming up. I forgot about that. You could go and, like, help her or help the guys. But you're, they'll have you back. The right thing will come along. Yeah. Well, they'll have, like, a building day or something where you could come in and, you know,
Starting point is 00:32:49 just don't put you in like a speedo and do dodge ball. Yeah, I don't think I would do that even if they asked. I'd like, guys, yeah, there's some other dudes out there who are far more equipped for that type of program than me. Get Tyler or Cameron or something. Yeah. Get a guy who doesn't ever want to wear clothes. Throw that guy out there.
Starting point is 00:33:06 I'd be out there in like a sweatshirt. You know, I'd be like, oh, it's just cold out here. It's cold out here today. I'm used to Michigan. Thin skin. Well, you and Trista have done a lot together too, and they have her back all the time.
Starting point is 00:33:16 So they do. Yeah. Well, she's a, I always say she's the fairy godmother of the franchise. You know, she and Ryan are like just such a great couple. And it's like they, you know, he, I mean, I, uh, I, uh, it's interesting when we were on Trista's season, Ryan and I were like kind of like bunkmates and, um, and so through, yeah, throughout the whole season, I was always like, God, I love that guy,
Starting point is 00:33:37 you know, like, honest God, I think we'd be like best friends outside of this show, you know, and, uh, and we just got along so well. And it was like, you know, when they ended up together, it was like one of those things where I was like, this makes sense. Like, I get it. You know, he's, he's awesome. So, you know, I've always had that kind of love for them. And then it was kind of funny. We were in, uh, Tahoe together not too long ago. and Tristan and I laugh about it, but Tristan introduced me to her son, Max, who I met when he was a baby, but I haven't, you know, seen him in 15 years, whatever. That's special.
Starting point is 00:34:04 Yeah, and he's like on his phone or whatever, and she goes, Max, this is mommy's ex-boyfriend. And he just goes, hey, what's up? It was so funny, like a 15-year-old wood, you know? Unaffected. Yeah, I totally didn't care. I think I watched that season, but how far did you make it, Bob? Were you like the final two? So, no, I was right before hometown date.
Starting point is 00:34:24 So they had like, I think we were, there were eight of us left. And it was going down to four. And I was essentially number five, right? I was the guy that I was the last one to get sent home on that date. You were the Maria of this season. Is that what I? Yeah, I was just sitting there like, I guess I'm going. Like, you know, and then I didn't get the rose.
Starting point is 00:34:44 But you know, it was one of those things. It was like the perfect scenario because Tristan and I have always been really good friends. And it's like even throughout that season, we had more of a friend vibe. we were in the friend zone, I guess. And so that was kind of cool in a way, too, because, you know, then when I go to their wedding and stuff, I'm not feeling creepy and weird. It was like I felt kind of good being there. No, that's really cool.
Starting point is 00:35:05 That's super neat. Well, I've been listening to your podcast and I love what you guys are doing. Well, thank you very much. I'm going to start listening to yours, too. How do we hear your podcast? You can get it, listen to anywhere you get your podcast. I do a Wednesday episode and usually have, you know, a guest. And then I've been doing recaps, too, lately.
Starting point is 00:35:24 of Bachelor and then as well as like love is blind and we just talked about farmer wants a wife you know I just love I love reality TV I gotta see that one I would see like recap is I'm like if you're listening to my podcast you probably watch the show so I don't need to give you like the play by play of the date but like yeah let's talk about like the meat and the potatoes of the episode sure no I love that it so yeah smart move so when you when you went back um during exact season. Did you feel like the show has changed a lot when you were when you were there as a guest or were you kind of seeing it going, oh yeah, I remember this exactly. You know, is it the formula is still the same or is there the sauce change at all? Yeah, I definitely felt like it there.
Starting point is 00:36:08 I could see some subtle changes for sure. First of all, like I said, Bennett was the only person and Polly who you see on the show once a while who helps get everybody lined up for the rose ceremony. He wears like a page boy for the listeners. So keep an eye out for Polly. He is like the nicest guy in the world. But everybody was new, and they definitely have, like, what you might call it, social media people now? Sure. At our time, like, we had, like, they, I don't even remember them taking photos.
Starting point is 00:36:38 Like, I got photos from the producers that took them, and then they would, like, send us a couple after, but they were, like, having the contestants do TikToks and stuff, like, as they filmed, which I thought was in. Oh, my God. That's crazy. Yeah. And, like, they had me and Victoria doing, like, kind of some behind the scenes, TikTok stuff.
Starting point is 00:36:54 And I was like, I don't TikTok. I don't, you know. But so, yeah, definitely some changes like that. And it's, but the dates pretty much the same. Yeah. I went on a lot of group dates, but. Yeah, you and me both. I was on, I was the group date king on my season.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Same. I kept thinking, I'm like, how am I still around? Like, I don't even get it. I actually did it at mine group dates. I was like, okay. Like, we always got to do really fun things. Yeah. Well, and you always got the rose at the end of the group
Starting point is 00:37:22 date, so that's not so bad. Yeah, I know. I kind of got to the point where I was like, stop giving me the rose. You're putting a target on my back. I remember my most, like the quickest force turnaround thing was I had a one-on-one date where we flew to Vegas and we went from LA to Vegas or whatever. And then I got back from that date at like 3.30 in the morning. They made me do like an ITM or whatever. And at like 545 in the morning, And they're like, okay. So let's bring in some more drove. And in about an hour, we're going to pick you up. We're going on a hot air and balloon date. You're going to grab these three people. I'm like, what? Like, I mean, I thought that would be like later in the day. They're like, no, let's go. It was like literally that fast. And I was like, oh, my God. So whenever I watched this show now, I'm like, I wonder, I wonder, you know, how many hours they've been at it today, you know? Oh, I felt for Zach. He's like, it was so they had filmed the night one the night before. And then we filmed the first group date the next day. And then we filmed the next day. I thought that there was a down day.
Starting point is 00:38:21 There was when we did it, yeah. I thought so when we did it too, and I'm like, how are you feeling? And he's like, oh, my gosh, I'm so tired. I think he probably took like a little disco nap during the day. Sure. But the girls were so tired, too. It's the first night is like the roosters are crying. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:38 You see the girls leaving now, especially like on this latest season and the sun's coming up. Yeah, they let you see it now. I know. But then on my date that I did with Zach, there was a girl who from, that was hosting with me that showed up to the. after party and so I got the tea the next day because she was saying like I like him I think there's something here I'm going to go to the night portion of the date she said they filmed to like four o'clock in the morning oh my gosh yeah I couldn't do it today and so she's like he didn't
Starting point is 00:39:04 keep her spoiler alert cash won yeah there you go oh I couldn't do it when I was 28 I remember Ari did the show when he came back he kind of filled me in on his season and he's like Courtney you need too much sleep he's like there's no way you could do the show he's like And I slept on my season a lot. That's what the girls complained about a lot. They're like, Courtney's always napping. Yeah, well, you're like, hey, man, I got to be rested. I was like, oh, I can't pour from an empty cup.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Like, I have to, like, conserve my energy, you know? That's funny. I'd come out firing on all cylinders like my daughter. That's right. You got to be ready to go, man. Yeah, I got to. And also, I didn't really drink a lot back then. Like, the girls were day drinking a lot during the day.
Starting point is 00:39:45 And I've never been a huge day drinker. I'm like, I'm going to be like, falling asleep. It happens to so many people, right? I mean, that's why they, yeah, so true. Well, and I've heard they had the drink minimum now, and then I asked somebody recently about it. Apparently, it's like two drinks an hour.
Starting point is 00:40:03 I thought it was like two drinks, like through the whole date night. I did too. Oh, I could handle that. I could go out. Somebody was talking about it, and they're like, oh, you could just save it and you could do like two drinks right before the hour changes. And then you could do two. that's funny so really it's it was a rule put into effect to be a rule yeah that's about it
Starting point is 00:40:24 yeah well i've loved having you on thank you so much for joining us and thanks for being part of the show you are an og and so i'm really glad that you got to be on the almost famous ogs hour real quick before we go so you have a baby on the way have you picked out the name yet and are you willing to share it well i think we've narrowed it down to two and we know the middle name is probably going to be Richard, which is my dad's name. Oh, that's nice. But I think we've narrowed the first name down, and obviously we're going to wait and just do it when he gets here.
Starting point is 00:40:54 Sure. But I had a couple names I could tell you we're not going to do. I really liked Keanu, which. Oh, yeah, that's a beautiful name. Cool breeze, but my son's Joaquin and people call him Kino. So I was like, we can't have a Kino and a Kianu. Right. That's too much.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Too similar. Yeah, too close. I really liked sunny. I really like, I liked more of the out there names, but my husband's like a professional he's an attorney's like Courtney I don't want he can't walk into court someday and be like sunny presciato here you know yes your honor I'm like okay although I do like that yeah I like the kind of like things that are out there but yeah those were those are scratched off the list I liked Otis Otis is cool too I thought so too it's hard to name my baby I like you
Starting point is 00:41:38 said you have a Grayson right yeah we have Grayson and Blake and my wife went my wife's favorite name was Blake and she thought we were going to have a girl. And then when we had a boy, I'm like, well, I like, every guy I know that's named Blake is super cool. And so we went with Blake for his name and that worked out pretty cool too. So I love that name. One of my best friend's son's name is Grace. And they call him gray. Do you call him gray? We call him G man. So we were just down in Mexico. And he was playing with this other little boy, you know, and I'm like, G man, come here for a second. Little Blake goes, what did you say his name was? I said, oh, I call him Gman, like a nickname. And I go, do you have a nickname?
Starting point is 00:42:13 Meanwhile, his dad's standing right next to me, this kid's dad. And he goes, well, my name's Jacob, but, you know, all the kids at school call me Diamond Jay. And the dad goes, dad goes, no one's ever called him that before. I'm like, Diamond Jay, what's up, dude? So Diamond Jay and G-Man were running the resort in Mexico last week. Oh, I saw some pictures that looked awesome. It was yet to really travel with the kids, like airplane.
Starting point is 00:42:37 We've done driving to the beach. But this number will have to do it. And if we get to Michigan ever, we'll definitely look you up. Please do. Yeah, you know what? It's such a fun place. I'll make sure we exchange information before we hang up. Well, I follow you on Instagram.
Starting point is 00:42:52 Oh, perfect. We'll DM. Yeah, I'll slide into the DMs. Slide into the DMs. We'll be there anytime soon, but if you come to Arizona, let me know. I will. Whereabouts in area? Well, you know what?
Starting point is 00:43:02 We're in Phoenix. Oh, you're in Phoenix. Okay. Yeah, I love that area. I was actually there in Scottsdale in Phoenix last year. I wish I would have known that. For golfing? Were you golfing?
Starting point is 00:43:14 We were. Yeah, we stayed at the, where do we stay? Venetian. The Biltmore? Oh, the Biltmore is cool. Yeah, it was really nice. Did some fun stuff. Went out like in the mountains on the, on the big, like, cage.
Starting point is 00:43:29 Camelback. You probably went hiking. It was awesome. We had so much fun. I love it out there. I love that weather. Oh, my God. It's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Well, don't come in the summer. Seriously. Too much. Yeah. Faring Pan of America. But, well, I appreciate you having me any time. And Trisha's is it ever unavailable. If you need me to swoop in, I'd be happy to.
Starting point is 00:43:47 You got it. We will definitely keep you on a short list. Thank you so much, Courtney Robertson, not Robinson. No problem. Bob Ginny. That's right. Bob Quinny. Bob Guimmy.
Starting point is 00:43:57 Blippy, sloppy, sloppy. Lopsy. Tell him, Bertho, I said hello, and give the boys and the girls my best. And we're very excited for you. Keep us posted when your new baby comes along so we can have you back. Oh, I would love to be back. All right. You guys have a good day. Bye, Courtney. Adios.
