Let's start with a quick puzzle.
The answer is Ken Jennings' appearance on The Puzzler with A.J. Jacobs.
The question is, what is the most entertaining listening experience in podcast land?
Jeopardy-truthers believe in...
I guess they would be Kenspiracy theorists.
That's right.
To give you the interesting.
answers and you still blew it the puzzler listen on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts this is the almost famous podcast with iHeart radio all right bob i'm so excited
about this episode because it was of course one of the best uh weekends nights days all of the
above uh of my life so we are going to do a two-parter for everybody
we are going to do a two-parter. So this is going to be the first episode where we are going to
talk. And actually, we're going to reminisce all about my wedding to Ryan. And you were there,
of course, for all of it. You were there. Well, you weren't really there for the engagement, I guess.
But you were there for the, you know, leading up to the engagement. And then you were there for
our bachelor and bachelor's parties. Yes. Or bachelor and bachelor at parties. And then for the
wedding, of course. So I am so excited.
I am, too.
Can you believe it's 20 years?
I mean, isn't that crazy?
I really can't.
I do not feel that old.
No, you do not.
You do not.
Thank you.
Thank you for saying that.
Oh, my gosh.
I mean, it's crazy.
Not that I put you on the spot.
No, no.
I mean, I thought about it in many episodes when you say, you know,
oh, I'm the fairy godmother.
I've been around forever.
I'm always like, but you don't look it.
You don't look it.
That's for sure.
But I remember your wedding.
Yes.
Well, I hope so.
Millions do, but I will tell you, I remember it just thinking to myself, first of all,
you know, we were relatively fresh off the show, right?
And then I had just gone to film my season of The Bachelor.
But I remember thinking, like, you know, I felt a lot of things.
One, I was so proud of the two of you.
Second, I was so disappointed that you guys set the bar this high and I wasn't getting married from the show.
You know, but it was amazing.
Such a cool event.
And to get to know your friends and your family and you're such.
wonderful, wonderful people.
And I mean, but it was the biggest production, I mean, ever, right?
It made what we had done on The Bachelorette and the Bachelorette, it looked like small potatoes
compared to what went on at that wedding.
Yeah, true story, which actually, it's funny that you bring that up because I will be
getting to interview Stephanie Lidecker, who was a producer on my season, probably even
your season. And then she ended up being like the, the correspondent for the show. I don't know
if you remember this part, the correspondent for the show. And she would like throw it back to Chris,
who was like outside waiting for the, you know, the venue to be prepped. And so I am excited to talk
to her about the fact that for the, like in the negotiations for the wedding, they said,
you can either have cameras in your face 24-7 during that entire weekend.
Like, we are going to follow you around everywhere.
You will not have any time off from the cameras.
And both of us were like, yuck.
Like, we want to be able to enjoy this with our family and friends.
We want to have moments without the cameras because, first of all, we didn't want them in their faces.
Like, we didn't want everyone at there at the wedding and there for the weekend to have to
suffer through the cameras because that's not what they signed up for.
Of course, we have.
But so anyway, it was either that or we have Stephanie with me and then Charlie, of course,
with Ryan.
And even though that was so strange, it ended up happening because we were like, we just don't
want cameras in our face 24-7, you know?
Yeah, yeah.
So production, yes, for sure.
It was a production.
I remember, I remember that very well because I remember, you know, obviously, you know,
Charlie was coming off the same time frame that I was coming off of, and it was kind of awkward
because he was, in theory, the runner up, right? So it was kind of like, okay. But it was one of those
moments where it was like, you know, it was so undeniable. I mean, you know, it really was so
undeniable for you and Ryan that, I mean, I think Charlie would have been lying if he said that
he didn't sense it as well. You know, it was one of those things that was just such an obvious
thing for any of us that were there. And then, you know, to be at the wedding and to be invited
first and foremost was a huge honor, but I also felt like, you know, I loved, you know, just your
mom and everyone being there and Ryan's family. And, you know, it was just one of those moments
where it was kind of like, you know, it was hard to remember at times that it was, in the lead-up,
I should say, hard to remember that it was a real wedding because, you know, you're seeing it,
like you're seeing all the production crews and everything. But then once the wedding,
once I saw you at the wedding, once I saw Ryan up at the front,
And then I saw you coming down the aisle.
Then it was, I forgot it was a TV show.
I forgot that it was only about the wedding.
And I remember thinking that to myself, like, you know, because I love weddings.
And I remember thinking as you were coming up the aisle and I'm looking at Ryan and he's like emotional because he is an emotional guy.
And, you know, just looking at the family and friends.
And it was great because the real feelings of a real wedding far surpassed the sound of the choppers,
circling over us and all that's something I forgot until it was brought up I kind of forgot all
about it you know it's just a real beautiful moment oh thank you oh you're very welcome and I so I don't
know if you've watched it back but I watched it back and love the fact that we were in St. Martin
with you know all of my my friends and Ryan's friends yeah and you were of course part of it
because you guys had become friends from the show so they had you
kind of like host this little party. And I want to ask you, how freaking awkward was it when you're
having to like rope in Ryan's friend Ben, who by the way has totally come around. He had a little bit
of a drinking problem, but he has been sober for years now. And I'm really actually really
proud of him. And we're both still very close. Like Ryan, he and Ryan are still very close.
sure but that whole part was so freaking awkward can you talk about that you know I just didn't think
they were going to use it I mean I was so I mean it was it was just a because I thought he was such
a cool guy it was just like a right I was almost I thought I mean in my mind I thought I was like
helping protect them from you know but you know from anything being aired and the fact that it
got aired anyway I was like oh dude like you know I mean I remember thinking that you know I was
I don't know. It was weird. Like when you look back at those moments, I have, I have conflicting, I have conflicting emotions about some stuff because I'm like, man, you don't need to have drama in everything. Like, you know, it's like, can't we have just let this be like an awesome, which it was 100% of the time, frankly, an awesome fun gathering of people who love you and adore you guys and want to see you be happy? Can't we just let that be it? Why do you got to make these little wrinkles? And, you know, and then I felt like I got set up a few times to ask some questions that I would.
have never asked, but I thought you guys knew about him and we were all prepared for them.
And I'm like, so how did this go? And then I'm like, wait, what? And then I realize in my heart
of hearts, I feel like a villain all of a sudden. I'm walking away from going, why did they
told me to ask them that? No, we knew it was coming from production. I mean, how could you not
being like what we had gone through? And one of those questions was, so our parents are sitting
at, you know, at one of the tables and you're asking us questions and we're having to, it's
Kind of like the newlywed game.
Yeah, it was a fun segment, but.
It was the question of, so, when's the first time you had sex?
And I was like, what?
I'm like, and I go naturally, I'm like, I don't want to talk about that.
And they're like, well, you just did.
Like, everyone's like, well, you just did.
I'm like, damn it, you got me.
So anyway, it was actually a really cute moment because I think Ryan came to the rescue.
like he was like um he wrote on the board um it never happened or it hasn't happened yet or something
like that he came to the rescue i can't remember exactly what he said and i was like yay thank you
didn't he say because i feel like i stole this from him i and i haven't seen it since we did it
i never even got to see it but i did he say if you didn't see it on camera it didn't happen did he
say that i don't i don't think so it was something else but i he did definitely
kind of like save that moment from like embarrassment and it and it ended up being a really you know
a really sweet cute moment of course the part with ben though you're right like i think i was feeling
the same way in that i didn't feel like it was going to air i didn't even know that i knew that it was
being filmed like i was being filmed because i think we had taken a break or something yeah and and i on film
Like, where you can watch it back, actually, I wonder if people can watch it back, but we'll get there.
When you watch it back, I say, oh, Ben is not my favorite friend of yours right now or something like that.
Yeah, yeah.
Because he was being, he was just being rude and disrespectful to you, kind of being the host, and even was like, he shouldn't be doing this.
One of your friends should be doing it right.
I remember that.
Yeah.
You know, it was, it was just disrespectful.
I didn't disagree with him.
was the hard part of me part of me was like you know i do feel i understand why i'm here but
and i would have hoped i would have been invited regardless but it was like one of those things
where i was like i don't disagree with them like there are some moments where you just wanted to be your
closest friends when it's around your wedding and not have this dude that you know he didn't know me
ben didn't know me so but i remember you know i remember thinking that in those moments going oh god
he's probably not wrong i mean i you know i don't like that he's saying it but i i get where
he's coming from and you know because I think people forget like even though we were at that time
especially living all like literally every day on camera it felt like it is still our real lives
I mean you guys have proven that 20 years later right that that it really still was your real
life and and I remember being hyper aware of it at that time like thinking to myself like this is
such an important time for them I I don't want to have like producers saying go ask this and then
when I realized I was asking some stuff that maybe I didn't feel comfortable with I'm like I
why didn't they just say no you know but I just
like okay it's all good if anyone
was going to understand it it was us you know
like that we had been living
planning the wedding even after the show
you know so no
there was there was no
ill there was no ill will or anything
I mean please Charlie was there in
the room with Ryan when he's
getting ready like
oh my gosh the funniest part
the funniest part is
Charlie's like
hey Chris so
Ryan Ryan's dad is about to
give him his last words before they walk out to the ceremony.
He's like, let's listen in.
And he, like, goes on Ryan and his dad.
And I was like, this is hysterical, that this is what my wedding was.
Like, this is hysterical.
But you know what, though?
It was.
I mean, what a watershed moment.
I mean, not only for the, you know, for the franchise, but for you and Ryan, too.
I mean, you guys really, that's what put everything on the,
as it being something that you really truly could find love from because you guys proved it.
And, you know, I think, you know, a 20 year later vowel renewal, you know,
vowel renewal would probably prove it even more because, you know, at the end of the day,
it's it is still something that we both know is, you know, people when they hear you
are on the show, oh, that's not real, right?
And I'm like, and I always say, I'm like, well, Tristan and Ryan are real, you know.
And I mean, I just had a conversation before we were on the phone this morning about it,
how Ryan and I were, I'll never.
forget me basically being like, why do they keep talking about me playing football in
college? He played for the Ravens. Like it was so annoying. He's not just a firefighter, okay?
I was more defensive of the pigeonholing Ryan than I was of me. It meant more to me because I just,
I don't know, I think about that sometimes. But yeah, it was one of those moments where I mean,
I was so honored to be invited. And, you know, it was definitely one of those things that I, I mean,
everything from, you know, the reception.
It was just so gorgeous.
I mean, everything was perfect.
Like, you guys didn't miss a beat.
I just thought it was amazing.
Well, we had Mindy Weiss, who also I will be talking to.
I totally forgot to mention that.
And my maid of honor, Sarah and Ryan chimes in.
So for everyone who's thinking,
should I save some time for this episode?
You should.
Yeah, you definitely should.
It'll give you all the feels because it'll make you feel like you were at the wedding,
which I was, and I will tell you to this day,
easily one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever been.
Oh, thank you.
And I wonder, I'm glad that you say that because in one of the clips,
Stephanie Lightecker is interviewing you and Russ and Jamie Blythe.
And you're with Estella.
Yes.
And she was like, I'm so happy for you guys, you know, that you're so happy or says something
like that.
Yeah.
And she's like, how is life?
And you're like, well, we're taking it.
easy here. We're drinking as well. Yeah, I mean, I will say this. Do you remember that? I do. I remember that
vividly. I was trying to be a good guy, okay? As I'm going to say, I'm not going to get in the weeds.
You know the real story, but I was trying to be a good guy, and I was trying not to put out these
platitudes that were going to, because I already knew where things were going. And I had kind of
communicated that to Estella before the wedding, which was a mistake. But I thought I was doing a
a good thing in doing that and being honest.
And so I was just kind of like, oh, God.
You know, and I knew the question was probably going to come.
And, and, uh, but I was, I was just trying to, you know, I mean, to this day, I still
really like her and have a care for her a ton.
And so that part of it never changed.
But it was like, I kind of realized in that moment we were going down this path.
We'd already been trying to keep it secret for five months, you know.
And, and, you know, but we still get told this that one of the shortest,
relationships ever because it was like three weeks after the finale. But, you know, yeah, but we really
had been dating for five months. But, you know, I remember thinking, I'm like, I don't want to ruin
anything. I don't want to make anything about us. And, you know, sure enough, we couldn't dodge
that bullet. But, you know, it was what it was. It's all good. You could just tell. I was like,
in hindsight, looking back, you know, obviously I knew that things were rocky. Yeah.
You know, just if anyone was watching the show, you know, the millions of people who were watching the show, I'm pretty sure they understood that maybe things weren't going to, you know, a hundred percent work out.
Yeah.
Yeah, maybe not.
I don't know.
But what a great friendship story to tell these many years later.
That's right.
That's right. It is.
I mean, we've had her on the show.
Yeah.
She's awesome.
Beautiful and lovely.
And I'm just so happy for her happiness.
I am too.
I am too.
Yeah.
No, it was fun.
It was just fun.
watching it back and you know getting to like see remind myself all the people that were there that
I have maybe lost touch with even yeah yeah life gets in the way years or years later right I mean
it's like you're you have children now and you have your you know commitments elsewhere and you know
I think about that too I mean gosh Canyon and I have been married uh this will be seven years we got married
2016 so yeah seven years this November and I mean I even think about it sometimes I'm like
where what who you know where are these people I mean you know you think about that stuff years later
right so you know but it's definitely you know I I love you guys I love you and Ryan so much together
and loved being a part of that chapter but that day was definitely all about you and Ryan and
you know I like I said I forgot it was even a TV show because after a while
being made into a TV show, I should say.
Because after a while, it just became about two people I truly care so much about
finding happiness and taking that next step together.
And hey, 20 years, Proust and the Puddin, you know, you guys are definitely the real deal.
Yep, if anybody would ever doubt, can you really find love on that show?
Google Trista Sutter, nay, Wren.
Let's look at this ring.
Yeah, I think you can.
I think you can.
Well, I'm excited to watch the episode along with everybody else.
I'm really excited.
Thank you. I know. It'll be, it'll be really fun to connect with Stephanie and Sarah and Ryan and Mindy Weiss, like just all the things that she's done since the, since the wedding. I mean, she was huge massive before, but now she's just all, everyone knows who she is if you did before because Kardashians and just all of the events and weddings that she's done since. So. And not, I'm not, I'm not taking any responsibility for that. She was amazing before.
before she did my wedding.
That's why I wanted her.
But, yeah, I'm just so excited to talk to everybody, including you.
So thank you for chatting.
Thank you.
Thanks for having me at the wedding and on today's episode.
Of course.
And the bachelor party.
Yeah.
Okay, great.
Well, thanks guys for listening.
And I hope you tune in.
I'm going to be talking to Stephanie Leidecker next.
Imagine that you're on an airplane.
and all of a sudden you hear this.
Attention passengers, the pilot is having an emergency
and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane.
Think you could do it?
It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane
with the help of air traffic control.
And they're saying like, okay, pull this,
do this, pull that, turn this.
It's just... I can do my eyes close.
I'm Manny.
I'm Noah.
This is Devon.
And on our new show, no such thing.
we get to the bottom of questions like these.
Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence.
Those who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise.
And then, as we try the whole thing out for real.
Wait, what?
Oh, that's the run right.
I'm looking at this thing.

Tell you how to manage your money again.
Welcome to Brown Ambition.
This is the hard part when you pay down those credit cards.
If you haven't gotten to the bottom of why you were racking up credit or turning to credit cards,
you may just recreate the same problem a year from now.
When you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates,
I would start shopping for a debt consolidation loan,
starting with your local credit union, shopping around online,
looking for some online lenders because they tend to have fewer fees and be more affordable.
Listen, I am not here to judge.
It is so expensive in these streets.
I 100% can see how in just a few months you can have this much credit card debt and it weighs on you.
It's really easy to just like stick your head in the sand.
It's nice and dark in the sand.
Even if it's scary, it's not going to go away just because you're avoiding it.
And in fact, it may get even worse.
For more judgment-free money advice, listen to Brown Ambition on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast.
Hola, it's HoneyGerman.
And my podcast, Grasias Come Again, is back.
This season, we're going even deeper
into the world of music and entertainment
with raw and honest conversations
with some of your favorite Latin artists and celebrities.
You didn't have to audition?
No, I didn't audition.
I haven't audition in, like, over 25 years.
Oh, wow.
That's a real G-talk right there.
Oh, yeah.
We've got some of the biggest actors,
musicians, content creators, and culture shifters
sharing their real stories of,
Failure and success.
You were destined to be a start.
We talk all about what's viral and trending with a little bit of chisement, a lot of laughs,
and those amazing vibras you've come to expect.
And of course, we'll explore deeper topics dealing with identity, struggles, and all the issues affecting our Latin community.
You feel like you get a little whitewash because you have to do the code switching?
I won't say whitewash because at the end of the day, you know, I'm me.
Yeah?
But the whole pretending and code, you know, it takes a little.
It's whole long.
Listen to the new season of Grasasas Come Again as part of my Cultura podcast network on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
So I am really, really excited to bring in our first guest.
She was a producer on my season of The Bachelorette, and she ended up commentating, officiating, whatever hosting, co-hosting with Chris Harrison, the word is.
She was there in the room with me, with my girlfriends, with my bridesmaids, getting all the, you know, behind-the-scenes action for the wedding.
And we've stayed in touch thanks to Facebook.
And she's had so much success in terms of production.
But I just adore her.
And I'm so excited to talk to Steph Lidecker.
Hi, guys.
Hi, Steph.
It's been far too long.
I don't, I won't jump in.
But are we live?
We are live. We're just going for it. We're just going to go for it. I am so excited to talk to you. I mean, obviously we've been friends on Facebook since we met since the show. I don't even know. Facebook wasn't on. Facebook wasn't a thing when we did the show. So we were not Facebook friends then. But I have just been watching. Did you watch any of it back? I feel all of it and then some. I can't. I mean, I need 10 hours.
if you could carve out a three-day weekend for us to discuss your wedding.
If I sound like I'm out of breath,
it's because I found this little memorabilia from your wedding.
It was actually like a mic, you put it over your microphone.
And it says Tristan Ryan's wedding and all things pink.
And congrats on all the success and your beautiful family.
You are the shining star of what love is all about.
Thank you.
That's so sweet.
And I love that you saved the mic box or mic cube or whatever you call it.
I should send this to you.
No, no, you need to keep it.
I have so many things.
I have lots of things.
I actually, so we are selling our house or we're moving.
And I've been putting stuff in boxes.
And I have so many things from the wedding memorabilia-wise.
And I haven't even scratched the surface because I haven't gone through any closets.
But like just I have candles.
that have surrounded our bathtub since we moved into this house, which was before we got married.
Well, I guess that it was after the wedding.
But, yes, I mean, it's all over the house.
So you keep that.
I'm going to keep this one.
You just said the buzzword of The Bachelor, which is candles, right?
So having candles around a bathtub, it sounds like you're living down the tradition for now almost 20 years, my goodness.
It's pretty extraordinary.
So much has happened since then.
And, yeah, I get to play along and watch from a discise.
but those were some really idyllic times.
Your wedding was the wedding of a lifetime.
And, you know, I had the benefit of being a producer on your season with when you fell in love with Ryan.
And I, you know, we were hiding in broom closets, getting to watch you guys have a really
authentic, beautiful experience.
And if I remember correctly, I feel like Ryan didn't even know what show he was on.
When he showed up, it was like, I have no idea where I am.
I've never seen the show.
And then he fell deeply in love.
And it was the real deal.
And so much is always made about it being impossible or that it's just for the cameras.
And I mean, granted, we're 20 years ago.
But old school, it was pretty extraordinary to kind of be on that journey with you from a distance and getting to participate in your wedding.
I still have a juicy sweatsuit from that.
So that's so.
funny because Blake'sley, they are back now. I don't know if you've heard, but they're trendy
again. And Blake'sley is like, mom, do you have any juicy sweatsuits? And I'm pointing to this
box in my closet, top of my closet, that it says bride, because mine's, or no, it says
Mrs. Sutter or something like that. And I said, you probably, yeah, you probably don't want to
wear that one, which is yours, it doesn't have any embroidery. It doesn't have any embroidery. But I
Remember the embroidery so well.
So, yeah, you had the best girlfriends that were your bridesmaids.
I hope they're all well.
Yeah, they are well.
They are awesome.
Riving and all of the above.
But, you know, it was a real wedding.
Yes, it's also a TV show.
But the truth of the matter was, you were going through the paces of a real thing.
And somehow I ended up with a juicy sweatshirt and juicy sweatpants, you know, original Navy.
They definitely should have a comeback and somebody should wear them.
And maybe Blake, she should have those.
so yeah i'm glad to hear you know love has thrived love has thrived so tell everybody about how you got
like behind the scenes how did you get chosen to kind of be and i guess i should back up because i
don't know if people haven't seen it in a long time or they'd never saw it um we had so as part
of the agreement for our wedding they said do you want to have cameras on you 24 seven or
we can give you another option.
We're like, what's the other option?
And they said, we need to have someone on a mic with you every so often as kind of like a
behind-the-scenes reporter and then someone with Ryan.
And lo and behold, like for me, it was awesome because we were friends as you were a producer.
But for Ryan, it was Charlie, which is the craziest thing.
Like, I can't even believe that flu.
Like, I am laughing so hard watching this back.
And Charlie's like, Bob is about to give Ryan his last, you know, final words, you know, let's listen in.
And I'm like, oh my gosh, that is so cringy.
It was so bananas.
The only weird bananas part of your wedding is me being there with a microphone.
So how that you were just laughing about it here at work, how that happened is I was a producer on your season on
the first bachelorette and you know had the benefit of seeing it all go down and internally i don't know
somebody my then boss was like oh yeah lie decker you're gonna be at the wedding and you know it's like
you know you're a co-host with chris harrison which sounded so incredibly exciting um right was wedged
in a dress that it wasn't actually sewn in the back and all of the it wasn't no i was like a disaster
i was a disaster the you were so poised on your wedding day and all i brought was a frazzled element
to it. Yeah, they would do these live shots. They would be like, live at the, you know,
rehearsal dinner. It was as if I was on space, weighing in on the activities. It was so scary.
I was a deer in headlights. I could search for words. And then the camera guy and, you know,
all of the crew were people that I had worked with like you forever. So like, you know, they're heckling
me during the commercial breaks. Totally. I think, I think, you are crushing it in the worst way. I'm like,
That is not very helpful on the commercial break.
Give me something to say.
They're like, you're at a wedding.
It's Trista.
Be normal.
I was like, okay, okay, okay.
I was nervous.
I was so nervous.
There's words can't say.
But what I wasn't nervous about was just, it was a big deal.
I remember showing up and there was chairs being set up for your actual ceremony.
And then within a day, it had just like this layering of pink and blushes.
And it was so magnificent and major.
That was like a big, was the Super Bowl of weddings.
It really felt that way.
I mean, I felt, I felt it, but, you know, I was part of it.
So I don't know how much you can truly feel.
But yeah, I mean, it was.
Like, I, watching back and having Mindy talk about how they were 24-7 around the clock,
they had people working on stuff.
And I believe it, because if you look at the space beforehand, it was just a ballroom, you know,
and they transform that place, like the cherry blossoms.
everywhere, which Blakesley has cherry blossoms, like a kind of a wall mural in her room,
um, that I just love all the little details that she did. It was, it was such an
incredible, I still can't believe that it was my wedding. I can't. Like, and it was a real TV
events, you know, for those who maybe have watched it or hadn't seen it back, you know,
back then, this was the first of its kinds. This was, you know, America's sweethearts, getting
married, viewers, and, you know, people like me who were working behind the scenes got to play
along. So there was a real payoff in it for everyone. Yeah. And it really felt important. And, you know,
listen, everybody can say what they want about reality TV. We call it unscripted now because it's
way fancier sounding. Yes, so fancy. You know, in our day, and again, not to date myself as well,
it was really, you were creating dates and circumstances that would allow real conversations
and authenticity to occur. And, you know, like every woman alive, going through the pacing
of dating is not easy and doing it poised. You know, people don't realize it's a lot of work
to be the Bachelorette, let alone have that really end in epic success. And yeah, you bring
up Charlie, Charlie, where is Charlie? I know. I don't, I remember, I had,
plan Charlie's hometown.
But, you know, looking at, I remember Ryan, he had the artwork and he was writing poetry
for you and, you know, also something like worth noting behind the scenes too is, you know,
we're all sort of become this extension of family.
And, you know, people are really decent and I'm sure some people are not, but you guys
so were and made everybody feel very connected to the process.
And, you know, as the first bachelorette, you know, again, people don't realize you have
to really.
it's your journey it's real life and it's also like a major TV show you know those rose ceremonies
I think it was back in the day when it was still in Malibu you know you would drive to Malibu to go to
work and it would be lit up like the Super Bowl you know it's a totally production and you know
you expect a huge production to have the value of production yes and it of course check that box
but then what you don't expect is maybe you know what is it almost 20 years now of
Almost 20 years. Yeah. You know, amen. And yeah, I'm sure that shaped a lot of people's lives. So
high five. We'll see you guys a vigilion more lovely years to come. Thank you. It's crazy. I mean,
we do still get people who come up to us and say, you know, I was there at your wedding. I was invited,
you know, and I love that we got to be able to share that with people. You know, it was, it was crazy.
that my ex-boyfriend was in the room with my soon-to-be husband commentating on my wedding and
that there were helicopters and, you know, so many crazy things. I don't know if you've heard
stories like this where someone said that paparazzi got into Rancho before people were
there and they hid those like throwaway cameras and they would walk up to people and be like,
We'll pay you $5,000 if you go to that bush and you go get a picture during the wedding and, you know, get, yeah, isn't that crazy?
Uh-huh.
It doesn't surprise me, though, because the level of fame that came with that time period was really unparalleled.
You were sort of entering into this phase that now, what are we, 27 seasons right now?
Yeah, right.
You're coming on 20 for The Bachelorette.
It's a lot of seasons, right?
So so much has come from that time period.
But, you know, someone's got to crack it, you know, face and point.
Not only did you crack it, you cracked it and you stayed and took the throne.
So, you know, what would you say?
I know you've talked about this so many times, but is there like a takeaway piece of information just for so many marriages?
I'm not even just talking about on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette.
You know, it's hot out there.
It was there a key ingredient that you sort of sensed from the jump when it came to Ryan?
You know, well, as you know, knowing him, he's just the most genuine person.
You know, he's sincere.
He made me feel so safe.
And we were kind of the epitome of opposites attract.
He's the introvert.
I'm the extrovert.
He's, I don't know, I just feel like there are little things, but I think in reflecting, you know,
every so often, because we do get this question a lot. And I love that you're asking me a question,
by the way. Always the consummate producer. Right, you're in the chair. You're in the interview
chair. ITM. We're starting our ITM. So anyway, I really truly feel like forgiveness is a big part,
like not just big things, like not big betrayals. I'm not talking about that. And, you know,
obviously in relationships that that happens, that needs to happen. But I think the little things,
like if he upsets me one day and says something upsetting, or if I upset him one day, or if everything
is just going wrong and like I do something, I don't know, just all the little things
that I feel like in living together for 20 years, you know, just little things can get at you.
And I think that it's a constant state of forgiveness when you are in those like, you know,
not super likable moments.
Of course.
You're also roommates.
Yeah, exactly.
And just consideration and friendship and I don't know, just enjoying life together.
I think that we both have such a great, we have a great value for our family.
And I think just trying to focus on that.
as much as possible, you know, moving to Vail when we were, you know, in the throes of all the
chaos, I think was one of our best decisions ever, you know, I don't know that. We wouldn't
have survived. I don't think if we were in L.A. because it was too much for him. Like, he just
couldn't, he did not want it. And I recognize that. We recognize that that's what we needed
as a couple. And we made a decision together to really focus on a relationship. And I'm sure that
decision, too, was questioned a thousand times because L.A. is always so luring in that regard.
Same. I mean, it is still. Like, I feel like everyone moves there. And I'm just like, no,
don't do it.
Come to Bill. Congrats. I hear you're moving to Denver. So congratulations.
We are. Thank you. Such a great city. Such a great city.
We love it. We love it. Okay, I am so sad. I don't want to, I don't want to not chat with you for the next three hours. But I am so excited that we got to have this little bit of time. I will see you in Colorado. Please do give my love to your incredible husbands and those two beautiful babies. When are you coming to Colorado? Are you here often?
Sooner than later. Yeah, actually, we are going to be shooting in Colorado shortly. So I will hunt me down, whether in Denver or in Vail.
Yes.
Yeah, congrats and all the success. More to come.
You too. I'm so sad that we didn't get to chat about where you are. I know KT Studios,
but I, same, same for you and your success. All crime all the time. I love it.
Okay, Steph, thank you. More to come. Bye. So good to chat.

Imagine that you're on an airplane
and all of a sudden you hear this.
The pilot is having an emergency, and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane.
Think you could do it?
It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control.
And they're saying like, okay, pull this, do this, pull that, turn this.
It's just, I can do it my eyes close.
I'm Manny.
I'm Noah.
This is Devon.
And on our new show, no such thing.
We get to the bottom of questions like these.
Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence.
Those who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise.
And then as we try the whole thing out for real.
Wait, what?
Oh, that's the run right.
I'm looking at this thing.

What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security?
prison, or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth.
Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced.
He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you.
Shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented
correctional programs that mimic military basic training.
These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline,
physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs.
Mark had one chance to complete this program
and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months.
The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you.
And we didn't know what to expect in the morning.
Nobody tells you anything.

Like, I felt like I needed to be better or work twice as hard as she did.
Join me for conversations about healing and growth.
Life is freaking hard.
And growth doesn't happen in comfort.
It happens in motion.

Okay, so next guest is a guest.
a very special person in my life.
Her name is Sarah Flood, and she was my maid of honor on my big day.
And we have stayed in touch.
She's still one of my besties, and I'm so excited to just re-so-excited to get into the memories of the wedding.
She said she was crying when she was watching it, so I'm so excited to chat and just reconnect.
How are you?
You look beautiful.
I'm good.
Thank you.
I'm so excited.
Um, okay, so how much fun was that watching that back?
Oh my gosh.
I mean, really, I was in tears the first two minutes.
It was awesome.
And I have waited for years to be able to watch it again.
I know.
I know.
So she keeps asking everyone, Sarah's like, when can I get a DVD?
When can I get a something so we can watch it?
Because you're, okay, so at the wedding, if people remember this or they didn't watch,
Sarah was my maid of honor.
and her son was what like 16 no nine months at the time nine months yeah he was nine months and so
the little flower girls they pulled him down the aisle and a sweet little fire engine did you guys
keep that did we give that to you no we didn't get it i would love to have it it was the cutest nod
to ryan as a firefighter totally i loved that moment that was one of my favorite moments and
And, of course, now he is, how tall, six something?
He is six, two.
Yes, so he's growing from that little 15-pounder that your nieces were pulling down the aisle.
Yes.
Yeah, amazing.
And I remember my mom standing at the end of the aisle, just hoping that he would stay quiet, right?
You never know what to expect from a baby.
And so she was back there keeping him happy, feeding him Cheerios one by one.
And so as I rewatched that, the other.
day. You can tell he's still holding on to something between his thumb and four fingers. So I think he had an extra little cheerio for that ride down. Yeah, he did. That's his smart mama. A smart grandma. Oh my gosh. So how young were we? Like that was so crazy watching. I was like, whoa. We are so young. And I said that. I think I said that to Ryan. He's like, well, it's 20 years ago. I'm like, yeah, I know. But it's just staggering. You know what made me crack up.
is re-washing the Bachelor, Bachelorette party.
And so we are all at St. Martin and the girls were on one half of the resort
and the guys were at the other.
And I remember at one point in the day, a message came through from Ryan.
And then you can see on your screen that it's a flip phone.
He was flipped up the flip phone.
You're like, oh my gosh, Ryan, just sent me a picture of what the guys are doing this afternoon.
And that blew my mind, right?
That's just indicative of how long ago the wedding.
was and then the part where um we invited you guys to go to new york and um you know like you get fitted
for the dresses and everything and we're like why don't we send them a message and we pick up the
flip phone and we did like a little selfie before selfies were selfies you know yes yes and the image quality
is just nothing like it is today i mean thank goodness i i will i will say thank goodness it wasn't high definition
because I just makeup is not what it is today and even though I was 20 years younger.
But yeah, I mean, it was crazy kind of reliving that because I really haven't thought about it.
You know, who thinks about their wedding, you know, on the daily.
I definitely don't.
So getting to relive it.
And I just, one thing is I just remember how happy I was because,
everyone was there.
Like, you know, the people that we, that we love most in the world were there just
celebrating.
And that's what made it the best weekend ever, you know, for me.
Yeah, it was remarkable.
And, yeah, watching that back, I mean, you're beaming ear to ear in every shot.
You're on cloud nine.
Here you are.
This girl is getting her princess dream wedding with an abundance of flowers, pink flowers,
everywhere. But yeah, to be surrounded by all those people that love and support you all,
it just, it means everything. And it showed on both of your faces. Yeah, I mean, it was, obviously,
it was, it was the best day of my life because I was marrying my best friend, but it was just,
just to be able to celebrate it with everyone there and, like, take over the whole. I mean,
I never thought I would take over a resort. Do you know what I mean? Like, well, okay, here are the
resort here are the hotels that you can stay at you know when you're when you're telling people to come
to the wedding and instead we were like okay just come here it's all for us and we just it was like
everywhere you turn if you walk out the door you're like oh i know you i know you oh yeah that's
because it's everyone that we invited and nobody else right yes nor did you think you would have
four helicopters flying overhead trying to get images of the wedding as it went down
Oh my gosh. Yeah. No. Okay. So is there anything that wasn't on the episode that is like a standout
memory for you? Oh, I think my standout memory was when Nick was coming down the aisle. It was so sweet that y'all
honored him in that way and included him in your ceremony. So. Well, it was about you guys. And he was
just so cute. Like how could we not? We had to have a ring bear. And he was like the perfect.
age, even though he
couldn't walk yet. So that's why we did
the fire engine because
he couldn't walk. So it's not like...
He was too little. Oh my gosh. Yeah. He was barely crawling
then. But he enjoyed that
ride and I was watching him check out
those little girls that were pulling him.
They loved.
The girls loved him and he
love those girls. And have you
I actually should show you
a picture of these girls. They are
stunners.
Oh, that's awesome.
Donners.
Yes.
I mean, it's crazy to think about these teeny little, you know, I feel like when my parents,
when I was young and I would see somebody that was friends with my parents and they would be like,
oh, well, I knew you when, you know, you were so tiny.
Totally.
And I say the exact same things to these, you know, little ones who I, you know, knew way back when and now they're, you know, adults.
like actual adults.
Yes.
You remember them vividly.
They may or may not remember us as well.
But yes.
Right.
You remember them so well from when they were little.
So as my maid of honor and as this was, you know, a production, if you will, were you
nervous at all like on top of just being, you know, the consummate made of honor.
Did that make you nervous?
Like, did I, I still, I've wondered to this day if, you know, you all kind of held it against me that you're being put in this position.
Oh, I loved it.
Yeah.
Terrified, though.
It was so nerve-wracking to get up at your reception and offer a toast that would be honoring to you and Ryan and just know that the audience was so big.
But no, it was so much fun.
It was so much fun.
And looking back, it's just filled with tons of.
remember is, as you say, being surrounded by the people that you love and watching the two of you
be so in love. So it was good fun. I just remember going through that process and you would
lavish gifts on us every time we met you, whether it be in New York City when we were invited
to be your bridal party or meeting at the wedding or the bachelor, bachelor, bachelor at party in
St. Martin, you just showered us with personalized pajamas and tops and cosmetic bags and robes
and all this fun stuff.
So you spoiled us and we were grateful.
Well, of course, that wasn't me.
That was production.
I had a say in like, you know, oh, we should do this or we should do that.
But that definitely wasn't me.
So I can't take all the credit.
But that was one of my most fun, like my, I love doing that kind of stuff.
And like if I had all the money in the world, what would make me happiest is to be able to share it with people.
And so I loved being able to.
have that opportunity to to know to lavish you know gifts spoil you guys rotten you did it you
did it do you still have because I as I was watching the like spa day before yeah wedding we gave you
guys those little jelly purses do you still have that or the um my jelly purse oh bummer
I have my cosmetic bag yeah I have the jeans yes love you got jeans I don't
even remember this.
Tell me all the things.
Like, what did we give you at each of the things?
Do you remember?
Oh, I remember a spa day.
You gave us pink, of course, wrap around towels to wear the Velcro top.
And we had a glorious pink fuzzy slippers.
You just slid your foot into them.
It was like walking on a cloud.
It was so dreamy.
We had those.
You gave us the cosmetic bags that had pictures of you with each a girl that you
were giving the gift too. Yeah, gosh, we had jeans. We had pink monogram tank tops with our
initials that we wore at the rehearsal. Yeah, you spoiled us. It was awesome. I love that.
I was actually just going through, so I have like a closet. In Blake'sley's closet, I have kind of like a
gift section where I keep gifts. And I still have like two or three of those cosmetic bags that
have me and Ryan on them that they gave like extra to me. Not that I will ever gift them to somebody
because who's going to be like, oh, hey, I get a gift bag or a cosmetic bag of me and Ryan.
What about your anniversary? So it is 20 years this December. What are you all doing to celebrate?
We haven't planned anything yet. I was literally just thinking about this morning.
You know, we talked about how we did a vow renewal that you were at 10 years ago in Beaver,
Creek. And I was thinking about possibly doing another vow renewal, but maybe this time at the
beach somewhere, because you know how much I love a beach. So I don't know. We have not planned
anything. We're in the midst of this crazy move. So I am like kind of all systems dedicated to
that right now and just getting through the end of the school year. But it's in the back of my
mind if I get any extra time, which I don't know when that's going to happen, but that is one of
the plans. One of the things I'd like to plan in the next year is something for our anniversary
because it's 20 years. It's crazy. Ten year anniversary, do you all go back and watch the video?
No. You've no way. Can you imagine Ryan watching it? I mean, I've been walking around with my
phone, like watching episodes, and I actually did just, um,
show high screen recorded part of it because i was watching this the part where bob was giving
ryan like his last little piece of advice before they went down to the actual wedding
and ryan looks exactly like max or max look looks exactly like ryan and i was like you have to
see this this is your son like this is you and but it's your son it's so weird it's so weird
because I don't always see it.
I always see Blake's Lee.
Like, Blake'sley and Ryan, to me, are twins.
And so many people are always like, oh, my gosh, Max is so much like his dad.
I don't really see it that much.
I see more of me growing up than Ryan.
But, oh, my gosh, in this little clip, it is Max.
Isn't that amazing?
Yeah, it's giving you a glimpse into what Max is going to look like when he's 25.
Yes.
It's so exciting and so fun.
I love that. I love it. Okay. Any more fun memories? Let's see. Oh, one thing you brought up. I am so bummed. The one thing that I regret about this wedding is not having my own videographer because in the agreement that we wrote with them, they said that I could bring my own videographer, but I thought, oh, why would I need a videographer?
You were recording this for a television network, and I didn't.
And so I don't have the, like, your speech recorded.
I don't have the, any of the speeches from the rehearsal dinner.
I don't have, like, any of that.
And, like, if we were married today, everyone would have their phones out.
Someone would have recorded it.
But now, but then it was like, you just didn't do that.
And I don't even think it was allowed.
Like even if you had a camera, they didn't let you record anything or take a picture.
No, we had to turn all that in, turn in our songs so we wouldn't be taking pictures and recording anything.
Your flip phone?
Yes.
My flip phone got confiscated.
Because we always used to have those little tiny automatic cameras, right?
That's what everyone carried back then.
You carried your flip phone or whatever, your Blackberry.
and you're
that's so funny to me
oh my goodness
I just I just wish
do you know anyone that
like I never gave you
a recording of that
did I
the rehearsal dinner like your speech
no I would love to have it too
yeah so yeah like you
we just saw what was
do you have it written down somewhere that you saved
I would love to say you
I'll rewrite it.
I'll rewrite it.
Rewrite it.
And then we'll record you and we'll have you wear the same outfit.
Actually, I'm sure you could fit into your same outfit that you wore.
I don't know about me.
Oh my gosh.
Yes, you could.
And that's so funny you say that because literally two of the dresses that I had at your
bachelor's party, I thought, oh my gosh, those are still in my closet.
So, yes.
20 years later, same stuff.
I mean, I love it.
Time to go shopping.
I think that's what that means.
Hey, Michael, time to go shopping.
Sorry, she's going shopping and we just gave her the go ahead to do so.
So there you go.
The whole thing was so cool.
And, you know, when people ask now, how are you all or they learn that I was involved in some way in your wedding, they always want to know, are they happy?
Are they still together?
And it's so easy to say yes.
And I enjoyed looking at your vows again and watching you all pledge your love to each other and make those commitments.
because here you are 20 years later with life having happened, right?
Career changes and the addition of kids and the loss of pets and health issues and
life and to see you all still as strong today or stronger by what you have gone through.
It's so great, a testament to the depth of your love.
So you picked the right one.
I love you.
Thanks.
love you um that's so sweet i did i did pick the right one and it is confirmed all the time
um even 20 years later so thank you for coming i'm so glad that we got to chat um and so i don't
know if you can like screen record it but now you have it to watch but just don't like it might
expire so the link that you got to watch the episode so make sure you do something already download

Okay. Bye. Bye. All right. That is it for part one of this super fun podcast. I have loved doing. Of course, you know, it's one of the best days of my life. So why wouldn't I want to talk about it?
Stay tuned for part two where I get to talk to even more people.
So exciting.

Am I ready to enter this new part of my life?
Like, am I ready to be in a relationship?
Am I ready to have kids and to really just devote myself and my time?
Join me for conversations about healing and growth,
all from one of my favorite spaces, The Kitchen.
