Starting point is 00:01:00 It's the journey. It's the people. It's the failures. It's the heartache. Listen to The Bright Side on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I always had to be so good, no one could ignore me. Carve my path with data and drive. But some people only see who I am on paper.
Starting point is 00:01:25 The paper ceiling. The limitations from degree screens to stereotypes that are holding back over 70 million stars. Workers skilled through alternative routes rather than a bachelor's degree. It's time for skills to speak for themselves. Find resources for breaking through barriers at tailorpapersealing.org. Brought to you by Opportunity at Work and the Ad Council. The U.S. Open is here and on my podcast, good game with Sarah Spain. I'm breaking down the players, the predictions, the pressure, and of course the honey deuses,
Starting point is 00:01:54 the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very wonderfully experiential sporting event. To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, an IHeart women's sports production in partnership with deep blue sports and entertainment on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Brought to you by Novartis, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports Network. This is the Ben and Ashley I, almost famous podcast with IHeartRadio. It's the holidays.
Starting point is 00:02:24 And on the almost famous podcast, we love. love celebrating the holidays. We also love celebrating joy and everything the holidays are supposed to represent. And this is a very special episode. We're my co-host, Ashley Ikenetti, the one and only. The best of the best is going to lead us through some incredible holiday interviews with some of Bachelor Nations favorites. I'm going to jump off because I feel like these need to be just like one on one. Ladies and ladies. Really? It's because it's my specialty. It's a rapid fire holiday edition
Starting point is 00:03:00 with our friends, Kailin Miller, Keys, and Genevieve Parisi. So we are, we're just going to talk about, like, favorite drinks, favorite movies, favorite holiday songs, all that stuff. It's just going to be light and fluffy, which is what we all need
Starting point is 00:03:17 these days. Ashley, I've got some awesome holiday plans. You want to hear them? Mm-hmm. So I'm going to go to Honduras and visit the communities in Honduras with my brother-in-law. He's never been able to go down because he plays professional baseball. And so this time of year is the perfect time of year. We're going to get down to Honduras. He's going to lead a baseball camp for the kids in the communities. How cool
Starting point is 00:03:40 is that? That's so nice. And so my wife is going to obviously go with us. And then as tradition holds, we've done it now. This will be our third year and it's going really well. We all love it. Jessica's family and my parents are going to be together, all of us, in Roiton, Honduras for Christmas. It's going to be absolutely so special. It's worked out really well. We love doing the holidays together. We know we won't be able to do it forever. We're going to scuba. We're going to have fun, lay on the beach. It's going to be great. Do you mind having Christmas in a tropical hot environment? No, no.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I get so much snow. Like right now there's snow in Denver, Colorado. I get so much snow leading up to it. My wife now, she is still, she prefers like a white Christmas.
Starting point is 00:04:32 But here's the thing she doesn't get. This is the thing she's not understanding. She loves Christmas Day to be cold and blizzardy and white and snowy. But as soon as that day's over, she'd want to be on a beach.
Starting point is 00:04:43 And so it's like just that 24 hours. You want it to be Christmassy. for all of December, and maybe until New Year's Eve, but on January 1st, you're like, give me the tropics. Yeah, so we're going to celebrate. We're going to get our tree this weekend, actually. We're going to get a tree. We're going to decorate our house.
Starting point is 00:05:03 We're going to play Christmas music. We're watching a Christmas movie now every night leading up to Christmas. That's what we do together. And then we're going to go to the beach. And I'm very excited for that. Oh, very nice. Well, I'm excited for you guys. It's a really amazing way to spend.
Starting point is 00:05:17 your Christmas. All right, Ben. Get out of here. It's my time to have a girl chat. Let's go. Bye. All right. We are going to talk to some of your
Starting point is 00:05:30 Bachelor nation favorites about Christmas and their traditions and their favorite movies and drinks and all that stuff. And we're starting with part of our almost famous family. Trista Sutter and Bob Guinea are both here.
Starting point is 00:05:44 They are the hosts of almost famous OGs. And you guys, you're doing some awesome, awesome interviews. Sometimes I'm a little jealous of your guests. I'm like, why didn't I get to interview so and so? You're killing it. Thank you so much for enhancing the brand. Oh, yeah, you know. Of course. You're always welcome to come co-host with us. Yeah, you guys built it. We're just, you know, we're just jumping on and helping grow it even bigger, we hope, right? You are. It's so amazing. Thank you. Thank you. so much. So yeah, if you guys aren't familiar, I know you've probably heard podcast before,
Starting point is 00:06:22 but just for any new listeners or inconsistent listeners, Bob and Trista, they interview like bachelor throwbacks. Some are huge bachelor throwbacks like Claire Crawley, who I think is an evergreen. I wouldn't really call her a throwback. But I, but then you also interview people that a lot of people may not remember or they may remember as soon as you guys start talking to them. You're like, oh my gosh, I totally, like, that storyline is somewhere in my memory, but I would have never thought of it until now. Anyway, guys, you, you know, your friends, we're all friends with Chris Harrison, and he is kind of coming out of the woodwork with a new podcast with Iheart Radio. And so excited about that. We're all really, really excited.
Starting point is 00:07:10 It was announced this week, and it is the brainchild of Amy Sugar. who is also you know she's also the founder of the almost famous franchise now yeah so chris is in good hands he had a teaser come out this week in which he was talking about like you know it's been two years he's never really talked in in depth about what happened um especially with time removed he has not done an interview since um you know not not being the host of The Bachelor. So what are your thoughts? What are your anxieties? Like, what's going to happen? I'm just, I just know that that first episode is going to get a million downloads. Oh, 100%. Yeah. I'll be listening, watching however I can, you know, tap into that. I'm excited for him.
Starting point is 00:08:05 You know, we got together out in, at I heart in Vegas and got to hang with him just for a little bit. And at that time, you know, I didn't know anything was was in the work. So I'm very excited for him in that regard and you know, I think it's it's time, right? I mean, the guy was in everybody's living room forever and then all of a sudden just wasn't. And so it's, you know, it would be nice for him to have an opportunity to, you know, and I mean, you know, in large part I think a lot of it is just reflection, right? Having a little time to have some retrospect and look back and be able to say, well, this is, you know, I could have done this or I should have done that or whatever.
Starting point is 00:08:43 But, you know, ultimately, I think, you know, he knows that a lot of people out there really care about him and care about what he has to say. And I'm excited to hear it. I'm definitely excited to tune in. Yeah, me too. I feel like there's so many couples that have come about from The Bachelor and Bachelorette that he was a part of. He was a big part of Ryan and I's relationship on the show. He married so many couples. And so I think that because people, you know, have brought us into their living rooms and really
Starting point is 00:09:16 fallen in love with our love stories that he was a big part of that. So I know that there are so many people who are, who have been rooting for him. I will say I reach out to him a couple times and he hasn't responded to my text. So I'm really curious to see if he's going to say like people that he's mad at and if I'm going to be one of them. And if I, what did I do? Like, I want to know what I did wrong, you know? I've always been in his corner and, and I wish him nothing but the best, including his relationship with Lauren.
Starting point is 00:09:51 I love him. They're like, they're like family, you know, like all Bachelor Nation is to me. So I'm really excited for it. We're actually going to play the teaser right now. So people aren't even. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Wait, hold on.
Starting point is 00:10:04 So I'm going to say that again. we're at let's actually play the teaser right now we can roll we're ready audio's good do you feel ready i think um i don't know a little nervous i have not spoken publicly for two years about this and i have a lot of thoughts and i've i think about this every day truly every day of my life i think about this and what i want to say and how important it is that i speak to everyone for the first time so it's heavy it's really heavy we'll see how it goes we may scrap this whole thing to be honest i don't know and i think it'll be cathartic i'm looking forward to getting this off my
Starting point is 00:10:48 shoulders and repairing this moving forward and letting everybody here for me so we're ready okay let's do it let's see what happens all right first episode here we go and and three, two. Hello, everybody, and welcome to the most dramatic podcast ever. I'm Chris Harrison. I think it's time we talk. All right. Well, it is going to be juicy.
Starting point is 00:11:16 You can feel the nerves. I'm sure the first episode will all be about the, for lack of a better word, cancellation of him. Yeah. And, yeah, I can't imagine. That's a lot of emotion. It's going to be heavy. I feel like it's going to be really heavy because I've never agreed with it.
Starting point is 00:11:35 canceling someone and that's exactly you put it you put it you know the nail on the head that's exactly what happened yeah and I'm sure Trista that like you probably texted him at times in which he just couldn't respond do you know what I mean like I don't mean like couldn't respond because he was in the middle of a golf game but I'm sure he was being inundated and there wasn't a lot to say or there's like a lot of confusing emotions and yeah he He probably just didn't, you know, go back in his log and respond to everyone. I'm sure he loves you. I'm even someone who's guilty of that sometimes.
Starting point is 00:12:14 And I, I, you know, didn't have that kind of red-hot, you know, spotlight at the moment like I said. So I can only imagine. But, yeah, I'm excited for him. I'm excited to hear the show. I'm excited that, you know, he's going to be, you know, part of our family, our big family again. Not that he never was, but you know what I mean? with the whole I-Heart family. So that's exciting.
Starting point is 00:12:36 That is exciting. We'll be able to see him maybe at I-Heart festivals and stuff like that. That's great. Anyway, this is our holiday podcast. Well, we had to kick it off with that huge news. You know, when it comes to Bachelor News, I want to talk to you guys about it. And now we'll get into some holiday questions. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Just to get everybody in the spirit of things. And we're also going to be talking to Genevieve and Kalin about their holiday favorites and traditions. But first, the OGs. Rapid fire. Are you ready? What is your favorite holiday cocktail? Ooh, I just had a holiday party. I did a favorites party with my friends, and I made Christmas punch that was like Prosecco vodka,
Starting point is 00:13:24 cranberry juice, pomegranate juice, orange juice, ginger ale. It's really good. And then someone sent me a thing that said Christmas, or punches are back for parties. So I was like, oh, yay, I'm trendy. So trendy. So on point. I'm an old school eggnog, you know, spice rum guy.
Starting point is 00:13:45 So, you know, but I will tell you, you know, I almost said because of my son, but, you know, my son doesn't drink eggnog with permanent or, but my son is lactose intolerant. And so he drinks lactate milk. Dude. Lactate for the wind. this is what I've been, I've been telling my agent for like the past two years that I want an ad with lactate
Starting point is 00:14:09 because I am such a supporter. It got me through my pregnancy with chocolate milk and now I saw at the grocery store that lactate has eggnog. Oh, amazing. Trust me when I tell you, do it. It's like, it's honestly like all the good stuff
Starting point is 00:14:23 about eggnog without the kind of weird stuff about eggnod. Lactate got it right. Weird stuff. Yeah, lactate got it right. It's so good. Amazing. What is your favorite, holiday tradition. Do you have any? Because people have been asking me and I've realized I don't
Starting point is 00:14:36 really have anything that I do every year consistently. And that's sad. Well, now you will. Now the Dawson's there. You will for sure. I think it is probably a kid thing. It for sure is. I think so. Although mine is related to, you know, life before kids. And I had been thinking about this because I was just asked in another interview what my favorite tradition was. I honestly think one of my favorite traditions is Christmas cards. And why I texted you today, Ashley, to get your address. Which I didn't respond yet, but that's because I was podcasting. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:15:11 I just love connecting. I've used minted for at least 10 years. They're the only way to do it. They really are the only way to do it. And I love that it's the connection with people. You know, I get to like kind of recap our year and keep them as like keepsakes, if you will of us through the years. So that's one of my favorites.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Do you know, I'm experiencing Mommy guilt right now because I didn't do a Christmas card for our first. Don't you do it. Don't be guilty. Nope. And I just didn't have time and I'm like, do you know what? Do a New Year's card or a Valentine's card? People do that
Starting point is 00:15:49 all the time. That's what we're doing. We're doing a New Year's card. Really? We're doing a New Year's card this year. That really helps because it's a less busy time. It's when everything starts to chill out. Yes. Plus you might even be able to, like what I'm thinking we're going to do is a new year's card we're going to use a picture from christmas morning type of thing and so you know like you said with minted and shutter flying all this companies you can turn it around pretty quick my favorite christmas tradition and this is a this goes back as long as i can possibly
Starting point is 00:16:13 remember it's all about christmas morning and uh i just love so my family comes down and you know with the boys and grason did it last year and this this year blake will be doing it with them which is really exciting but you know santa claus comes and it is like it is like it's carnival it is bananas there's like you know if something makes noise it's making noise if a train's going it's chew chewing all that kind of good stuff and you come down and it's just like sensory overload madness santa was here and uh i love it and so um that's part of my fun is actually like late night christmas eve with a cup of you know egg nod by lactate uh is sitting there you know actually i you need to uh plug this anywhere you can i know
Starting point is 00:16:56 But literally, like, sitting there having a couple contails setting up, you know, all the good things out there that Santa leaves for the boys. Because, you know, Santa's a busy dude. He doesn't have time to set everything up as well as deliver it. So once he drops it off at our house for all the kids out there listening, I get involved and, you know, help set some of it up. So, yeah, it's nice. Speaking of. I love Santa makes the trip. Ashley, you need to, there's a couple things that you should do with Dawson as he gets older.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Right now, it doesn't matter. But I remember this from growing up and we did it when the kids were tiny. You take, like, footprints out of the fireplace and have it be like footprints out of the fireplace. And then, of course, like, oh, I have this beautiful hand-painted plate that says, you know, something about Santa. Here comes Santa Claus or something. And they always put the, you know, the carrots on and the cookies and the milk. And you, of course, are drinking that at midnight and eating the cookie, like, just taking a bite out of it. But I feel like making the magic for the kids is actually another one of my favorite.
Starting point is 00:18:06 It's pretty awesome. I have really realized this year that Christmas is for the kids. And I want it for the kids. I want that. I want that to be the focus. Yeah. No, I'm like, I feel silly getting people like adults' gifts now. I'm like, do you really need it?
Starting point is 00:18:22 Can I just buy more for, like, a kid who needs it? I really, yeah, I'm like, I would rather you not get me anything and please give it to this, this, like, this, you know, one of the, um, the Santa, the tags, you know, when you're flying places. Salvation Army or whatever, yeah, like a kid, a kid in me, like, please don't get me anything. I don't need anything else, but like, I would love to see the face on a kid who gets, like, their dream gift. Yeah. You can adopt families here. A couple of my friends do that. They adopt a family.
Starting point is 00:18:53 and then the family has like a list and I don't know that they deliver it to the family specifically but that's always a good way to get back to. I love that. Okay, so I do want to say parents get your kids, press pause, get your kids out of the room. I do want to say something about Santa. Okay. Yeah. Okay. You have a minute. All right. All right. So this is how my parents got me to believe in Santa probably beyond when I should have. Okay. So I was in fourth grade, and that's when the people start talking at school. You start trying to figure things out, and you're like, I don't know because of this. And I don't know because of that.
Starting point is 00:19:36 And so the doubt was high. And as Elf would say, you know, the Christmas spirit was low. Santa Slay was like maybe not able to get off the ground. Yeah. And my sister and I come downstairs, and this was after, like, we just moved into my, our new, like, what at the time was our new house. like my family home for like the past 25 plus years now. And I remember it was a big deal for my parents to buy gas logs for every fireplace. And we have like five fireplaces in that house.
Starting point is 00:20:06 And the gas logs were like $500 per fireplace. And I remember them making such a big deal out of how much the logs were. And like my dad couldn't believe that they were spending that. So then my sister and I come down on Christmas morning. and the gas logs in the family room fireplace were broken and shattered all over the floor and we looked at each other and we're like oh my God Santa is real there's no way mom and dad
Starting point is 00:20:38 would break these logs I love it and I was convinced because of that for like two more years until my mom one day in the car was like you know Santa isn't real right and I was like, yeah. I mean, there was that time with the fireplace that really threw me off for a while.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Yeah. So did they lie about the price? No, to this day, the logs are still broken in that fireplace, but they like broke them in a way in which it looks like more of like a real natural log instead of like, you know, straight across like standard gas looking logs. So it actually enhanced the vibe. But, man, that was crafty.
Starting point is 00:21:20 My sister, my sister, when she was, my sister was two and a half years old than me, same split as my boys, by the way. But she was like in, what was she like in, I guess, seventh grade. And I was in like fifth grade. And she was like, look, you got to stop with this. I'm like, no, no, I'm not stopping. And so I didn't care. If I was like, if I was anywhere with an earshot of my family, I believe in San Antonio,
Starting point is 00:21:45 I was in like 10th grade. I think I, in fact, I still do. but if my buddies my buddy's my buddy's like dude come on i'm like what seriously i mean that makes it feel better santa claus watching so i still yeah i still do it my wife was the other day was like quit learning santa claus over the boys i'm like no absolutely not santa claus is watching i'm watching yeah that's right how terrifying was the naughty list and having coal in your stocking like every year i would like think back on the reasons that i would maybe need what it would find coal in my stocking do you know what i just saw a post i think
Starting point is 00:22:18 on Instagram or Facebook that they were talking about Cole and they were like, why did we say Cole? Like the kids don't even know what Cole is. Like, what is Cole? Mom? I thought it's cool from with the barbecue. Yes, exactly. My sister made a really good point one year and I saw this actually on Instagram this year. I thought she thought of it, but she said, she's like, so if Santa Claus has a naughty and nice list and he's seeing everything. And I'm like, right. She's like, you're trying to tell me that he didn't know that Rudolph was getting bullied by the other reindeer? And if he didn't, why he step in. Why did you do something? I'm like, I don't know. I don't know why. Those are the things that put down in the fourth grader's mind. Yeah, that's right.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Every time. Okay. For a few more rapid fire, what is your favorite Christmas movie? Elf. Yeah. Actually, it's a wonderful life for me. That else. Oh, I love that. Yes. All right. May I ask a question, Ashley? Because I have one. Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? I've never seen. I've never seen. I've never seen. You. die hard. No. Shish. Okay, well, that's your goal.
Starting point is 00:23:22 This Christmas. You're watching it this Christmas. And then we point back to us if it's actually a Christmas. What do you think, Trista? You think it is? That's kind of the same thing with songs. Like, I keep hearing songs that mention, like, the word Christmas is in it. But it's not, it's totally not a Christmas song.
Starting point is 00:23:41 I'm like, why is this being played right now? I would have to say it is a Christmas. Christmas movie because it is played traditionally on like the cable channels or whatever, every single Christmas. Yeah. You know, I don't know why. I mean, I feel like he wears, doesn't he wear a Santa hat at one point? Maybe that's the only reason.
Starting point is 00:24:04 But I feel like it has become a tradition. So why not just make it a Christmas movie? So I think Casimir Hugh Ken is a Christmas movie and needs to be more respected as, as that. Why? Wait, remind me. That's with Leo, right? Yeah. and it always it takes place at Christmas pretty much throughout the year they always
Starting point is 00:24:22 because he says he goes Carl we always meet on Christmas and it's set yeah that there's a Christmasy winter feel throughout it it was released at Christmas I I think it's an underrated Christmas movie and then there's the holiday which is probably my favorite a grown up Christmas movie got it I'm excited to see spirited um with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds yeah I think that's on We were going to watch it. Apple TV. It's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:24:50 I watched it. I liked it. Okay, good. But like, I love a movie during Christmas. Can Will Ferrell do another Christmas movie? Is it always going to compare it? He can.
Starting point is 00:25:00 This one, there is no comparison. It's totally different. Okay. It's good, though. That's good. Okay. All right. My last question for you is,
Starting point is 00:25:09 what has been your most memorable Christmas gift? And I asked this question, having a hard time answering it myself. So this is for you. Memorable giving or getting? Oh, you could do either. I, okay, this is going to sound superficial, but honestly, I wear them every single day and have for 20 years. So my earrings.
Starting point is 00:25:30 I don't think that's superficial. Those are very special. Yeah, it was like a, I had never bought diamonds for myself and I never received them from, you know, a significant other. And I had always wanted them, of course. I mean, what girl doesn't want diamonds? And he got them for me for our first. I believe it was our first Christmas. And I literally wear them every day.
Starting point is 00:25:55 You will see them. Unless I have like hoops or, you know, some other, like, costume-ish jewelry on, I have them in when I work out, in the shower, you know, when I'm doing a podcast. All day, every day. I'm always wearing them for 20 years. That's so sentimental. That's not materialistic at all. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Yeah, thank you. Yeah, that's nice. But I think I've got you beat. So my son was born on December 3rd. Oh. And we were living in Seattle. And we had no family around us. So Canyons families from California. My family's from Michigan. I was just, I was just so bummed. I was super excited to have this little baby boy. But all I could think of was that no one was going to be there. And then they all came in for Christmas from everywhere. And, and. stayed with us at our house. And so everyone was there on Christmas. It gets me choked up even thinking about it. So, you know, and it was pretty amazing. And then, you know, so that's what I would say would be my Christmas gift was that my favorite gift was that my son was born around the holidays, which was a bummer for him
Starting point is 00:27:03 because his birthday, you know, he's going to struggle, right, with the birthday and present. But it was just so awesome that everyone was there together. And, you know, it's one of my last Christmases with my dad before he passed away. So it means a lot to me. Oh, that feels like the end of a Christmas movie. Yeah. It's the vibe. It does.
Starting point is 00:27:20 It does. Oh, okay. You guys are the best. Yeah, you definitely got me beat. You had me beat, Bob. You beat me. Oh, man. I love you.
Starting point is 00:27:31 I didn't mean to pull out the Trump card like that. No, you're so good at telling stories. I can just, I could talk to you guys all day. You make this job so easy. And I know that that's why our podcast, almost famous O.Gs is doing so well. So I just want to say, thank you again for coming on for this and for doing that. And next up, I will have Genevieve and Kalin talking all about their holidays. Merry Christmas, everybody.
Starting point is 00:27:59 Merry Christmas. Happy holidays. Bye, guys. Hi, my name is Enna Yumanzoor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect.
Starting point is 00:28:26 And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. My name is Ed. Everyone say hello, Ed. Hello, Ed.
Starting point is 00:28:41 I'm from a very rural background myself. My dad is a farmer. and my mom is a cousin, so, like, it's not, like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Well, 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:29:36 or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Dr. Joy Hardin-Brandford, and in session 421 of therapy for black girls, I sit down with Dr. Ophia and Billy Shaka to explore how our hair connects to our identity, mental health, and the ways we heal. Because I think hair is a complex language system, right, in terms of it can tell how old you are, your marital status, where you're from, you're a spiritual belief. But I think with social media, there's like a hyperfixation and observation of our hair, right? That this is sometimes the first thing someone sees when we make a post or a reel is how our hair is styled. We talk about the important role
Starting point is 00:30:14 hairstylists play in our community, the pressure to always look put together, and how breaking up with perfection can actually free us. Plus, if you're someone who gets anxious about flying, don't miss session 418 with Dr. Angela Neil Barnett, where we dive into managing flight anxiety. Listen to therapy for black girls on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Get fired up, y'all. Season two of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway. We just welcomed one of my favorite people and an incomparable soccer icon, Megan Rapino, to the show, and we had a blast. We talked about her recent 40th birthday celebrations, co-hosting a podcast with her fiancé Sue Bird, watching former teammates retire and more. Never a dull moment with Pino.
Starting point is 00:31:01 Take a listen. What do you miss the most about being a pro athlete? The final. The final. And the locker room. I really, really, like, you just can't replicate, you can't get back. showing up to locker room every morning just to shit talk. We've got more incredible guests like the legendary Candace Parker and college superstar AZ Fudd.
Starting point is 00:31:23 I mean, seriously, y'all. The guest list is absolutely stacked for season two. And, you know, we're always going to keep you up to speed on all the news and happenings around the women's sports world as well. So make sure you listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. I am joined by Kaylin Miller Keys, soon to be Kalyn Bell, which by the way, sounds amazing.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Thank you. Kaylin Bell. How sweet. That's so cute. We talk all about Kaylin and Dean Ungler's engagement in a new in-depth episode with Caitlin. We do have an old in-depth episode with Kaylin, but this time she's going to to talk all about her life with Dean, including the lost engagement ring, their engagement
Starting point is 00:32:19 and their wedding planning, which is already going down. But right now, Caitlin and I are going to be talking about the holidays because we have a wonderful sponsor in Starbucks and we just, you know, you can't get enough of like cozy Christmas lattes. And I'm, you know, we own a coffee shop. And yet I will definitely be finding myself multiple times at Starbucks for a cozy little red cup. Kaelan, what is your favorite holiday drink? Ooh, I love chai lattes, especially in the fall and winter, just like a warm chai latte. I also am a little basic and I love pumpkin spice lattes every once in a while. Oh yeah, for sure, of course.
Starting point is 00:33:05 I used to be obsessed with pumpkin spice and now I'm like, okay, I like them. I actually like the winter ones more. Not peppermint. I'm not down with peppermint. I don't need to have like a toothbrush taste in my mouth. You know what I mean? Yeah. But if it says like cookie butter or anything like that, I am so down.
Starting point is 00:33:26 They're so good. Eggnog flavored things. What's your favorite? Yes, the eggnog. Then I also love a Starbucks hot chocolate. And it's specifically a Starbucks hot chocolate. And yes, I am still saying this. as the owner of Audrey's.
Starting point is 00:33:42 There's only one, Audrey's. If you're not in Rhode Island, Starbucks, I wouldn't think that we are a competitor of Starbucks. And I love their hot chocolate. But man, you wanted some, this is like the most Ashley thing ever after people watch this season of Paradise. I shouldn't be going out anywhere
Starting point is 00:34:03 after having a Starbucks hot chocolate. Unless it's like, I have like, yeah, you know what, Starbucks get some last. lactate milk, please. I need lactate milk with my Starbucks because almond milk in your Starbucks, in your hot chocolate, not the same. Yeah. Yeah. What's your favorite alcoholic holiday drink? Ooh, I kind of like, I'm never a whiskey person, but I like whiskey around the holidays just with like a cinnamon stick and different, I don't make them, but I feel like I've had like cinnamon and maple syrup in it. Oh, totally. That sounds so good. And like,
Starting point is 00:34:40 Like, I like even Fireball with apple cider with a little cinnamon stick in it. That sounds so good. Oh, it's so good. So we have a drink like that at Audreys. And then I also love an eggnog martini, which I don't drink eggnog itself, but Jared will make an eggnog martini. That just, it's so good. He will put a graham cracker criss around, a graham cracker rim on the martini glass. And just getting a little graham cracker in your mouth with the ed.
Starting point is 00:35:10 eggnog and the vodka. It's so good. I love eggnog alone. And surprisingly, I've never had alcoholic eggnog. Oh, you got to check it out. So we, we flip-flopped. Yeah. Because I've never, yeah, I've never had eggnog plane. Do you guys have any holiday traditions, you and Dean, thus far? I was just thinking that because I put the tree up today. And I waited to put, we have a pappy tree topper. Oh, that's right, you too. It's the sweetest. Dean got it for us and it's the best. So that's like our new tradition as of last year is we put it up together, at least just the Papi Topper. Oh, that's so sweet. I think seeing that Insta story last year of the Topper made me cry. It's just so sweet. And I feel like it's a really nice gift for people whose doggies have passed to kind of put them, like to make them one of those things and put it as the angel. on top of the tree?
Starting point is 00:36:10 I know, it's the best. And he had, I think he passed like a month prior to Christmas. So it was kind of perfect timing with the topper. How did you find that? Somebody just sent it to you? It was the day that we put him down. Dean was just on Google and went on Etsy and found it. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:36:26 I'm going to go do that after this. Yeah. Well, that's this very sweet tradition that you guys have. Did you have any traditions growing up that you want to pass down to possibly children one day? We didn't really have that many traditions. We had like a train under our tree. I don't know if I'd pass that on. And it's more so like the parties leading up to it.
Starting point is 00:36:48 My mom would always have a cookie party and she'd have all her neighbor friends over. Everyone would bring a different cookie. And then by the time, like right before Christmas, we'd end up with like 50 different types of cookies. Oh, that's cute. That's really cute. Now we're just going to do a rapid fire of your favorite holiday everything. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:37:06 What is your favorite holiday song? Oh my gosh. Why am I blanking? What's his name? The one who sings all the great Christmas songs. I put it on my story today. Michael Bluy? Michael Blubley.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Yeah. Yeah, just anything by him. Okay. So I like that. Respect, respect. I went through a huge Michael Bubley phase as a 18-year-old. So I was like a senior in high school amongst so many much older than me at his concerts. It's, I felt real classy, but I was obsessed with him and, you know, definitely had that.
Starting point is 00:37:39 I'm definitely going to marry a Michael Lou Blithe thing in my head. Then, what is your favorite Christmas movie? Oh, weirdly, I love Harry Potter. And it's not really Christmas. But they show Christmas every day. I can feel it. It's got, like, vibes. I understand.
Starting point is 00:38:00 It has cozy vibes. And most of the movies came out around Christmas. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Do you know what you're getting, Dean, this year? No, I don't know if we're going to do gifts. If we do, it'll be like, we'll each get each other concert tickets. Okay, that's cool. Yeah, usually Jared and I, well, I go a little bit overboard because he's so fun and so easy to shop for. I just get on Etsy and I just order him a zillion things that are like Tom Brady themed or like movie themed and stuff like that. But for me, I don't want any. more stuff like nothing physical like our house is already like busting at the seams you know as far as
Starting point is 00:38:41 like stuff goes so i'm just like no no like anything that's that's a memory give that that's a way more impactful for me yeah i've also never heard someone say that their significant other is easy to shop for i feel like i would agree it's not a very common thing but he has so many passions and his passions like just have like a lot of things made about them i don't know you know what i mean like when it comes to movies and sports there's just like a lot of like things you can buy that are interesting and creative especially on stuff like etzy oh that's so nice uh do you like to travel or stay home for the holidays we really want to stay home for the holidays i i really like staying home but we haven't
Starting point is 00:39:31 spent the holidays with my family for a while, so we'll be traveling. Are you going to be going to Virginia? Yeah. Oh, nice, because I know that you're really close to your grandparents in Vegas, so will they be traveling with you? No, they'll stay back. Okay. And do you have a gift guide for significant other presents or just, like,
Starting point is 00:39:51 presents for girls of our ages? I don't. I've been thinking about creating one. I feel like there's... Yeah, no, I don't. I was, like, trying to think of something real quick. Maybe an aura ring. An aura ring.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Those things are so hot right now. Yeah, they're the best. How is it different than an Apple Watch? It tracks your sleep better. I think the Apple Watch tracks your workouts better, but the aura, it's more about like your heart rate and sleep. Interesting. Okay. My final rapid fire question for you is, would you rather be somewhere tropical during the holidays or somewhere cold and cozy?
Starting point is 00:40:31 cold and cozy. Okay, I agree. I am down for hot and tropical every other week or month out of the year, but tropical is for January and beyond. Yeah, because I want to live in it in December. Yeah, I agree. Okay, well, Kaelin, I just want to thank you again so much for coming on here. I hope that you and Dean have the coziest first Christmas together as an engaged couple to make it even cozier. You know, I'd throw a couple Starbucks red cups in the family room and have a little coziness under the Christmas tree that you should put up today. Because nothing really completes the mood than having a nice little warm drink in your hands that is of the flavors that you only taste this time of year. You know, it gets really nostalgic. So I love Starbucks for that. Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzoor.
Starting point is 00:41:29 And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. All right, guys, we're back. And now we have Genevieve Parisi to talk about holiday festivities. Jen, are you ready for this? I'm ready for rapid.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Okay. Do you feel that the holidays are more difficult because you're single? Because I will say this. I felt like in my upper 20s when I was single all I wanted was to live a lifetime or a Hallmark Christmas movie or like the holiday or love actually and I just I felt like this was actually I felt like this was actually a hard time of year yeah I completely agree um being single around the holidays is it's the worst time to be single I hate it's only to be snugly and be romantic i'll let you know this it's not as romantic when you're three years married with a kid as
Starting point is 00:45:59 it looks like in movies but it there is still like i'll i'll say i prefer i much prefer to be married and an experience at christmas yeah i understand that i would love that i would love a boyfriend anything but it's okay maybe next year it's okay i know every year that's like what i wish for i remember like I would listen to Britney Spears's like, what is it? Like she, the song, I forget what the actual song title is, but it's like basically she wanted a boyfriend for Christmas. And I would sing that with like all of my might every year. That's so sweet.
Starting point is 00:46:38 Yeah. It's a lonely time. Oh, yeah. We'll find you someone soon. We're going to find you someone soon. You're going to go on Paris again next year. and it's going to turn out happy. No.
Starting point is 00:46:54 No, I won't. Come on now, yes, you will. No, I won't. You will be asked again. You and Jill, you both tell me now that you're not going to go back and you guys will both be asked and you'll both go back. No. Okay, fine.
Starting point is 00:47:09 I don't think so. All right, you guys, mark this date, mark this recording and like, let's go listen to it back in a couple months. Okay, well, moving on with our rapid fire. do you have any holiday traditions um on christmas eve we always like my whole um dad's side of the family big italian family get together and yeah it's like um my aunt comes in from dc and i fly back um all my cousins in california fly back home to massachusetts and we spend um christmas eve together but is that we meant by tradition yeah of course that's a great tradition okay do you have any others like
Starting point is 00:47:48 anything specifically, a certain movie you watch, on Christmas Eve, a certain food that's always made? Oh, wow. I can't remember. No, I don't think so. Okay. I think we just always watch, like, Rudolph.
Starting point is 00:48:05 Actually, we do always watch Rudolph. Okay, good. Are you a Rudolph or a Frosty person? Rudolph. What about you? I like Frosty. Okay. Happy birthday.
Starting point is 00:48:15 What is your favorite Christmas movie? Um, oh, um, Home Alone. I agree. Home Alone is my favorite, too. It was up for debate, whether it was Elf or Home Alone for a while, and then I've really decided that it's Home Alone. It's just more nostalgic for me, because I've been watching it for decades and decades instead of just, you know, well, I guess the past two.
Starting point is 00:48:44 There's like childhood. in it for me because I watched I saw homel I saw l for the first time as a sophomore in high school so I still don't have like the kid vibes right right yeah what is your favorite Christmas song or album oh okay so I guess I'm not a Christmas is my favorite holiday but I don't really listen to Christmas music okay oh I would say all I want for Christmas is you by is the classic Mariah song yep that one there's really nothing there's still along to that there's just there's that's just a perfect song you know there's nothing's going to make you feel more christmassy really than that song i'm answering these questions as well i guess um mine has to be the insane christmas album as well as the clayacan christmas album you must have been like so young
Starting point is 00:49:35 when clayakin was on american idol but i was a big claymate back then okay yeah i don't think i saw him on american idol what is your favorite holiday cocktail oh ho ho ho ho espresso martini okay that counts for sure i do think of that as a christmas you drink yeah um i would love one of audrey's um like mint something yeah we have an eggnog martini that's so good jared's actually putting up the christmas menu today oh oh i can't wait so i'll see you down there soon oh yeah are those are the best drinks of the entire year are the Christmas-themed ones. We had like the Buddy the Elf and the one from Christmas vacation. So they're great. Cool. I love that. Well, okay. So for for traveling for the holidays,
Starting point is 00:50:28 do you like to go, like is it always at your parents' house or would you be down for it to be like a travel destination Christmas? Oh no. I always wanted to be at my parents' house. When I I want to wake up on Christmas morning at my parents' house every year. I so agree. Yeah. Yeah. How about you? Oh, I always, I'd always want to be with my family, whether that's like, I guess, here
Starting point is 00:50:56 or whether it's at my parents in Virginia. It's just be one of the other. I don't want to be somewhere tropical for Christmas or like on vacation, like vacation. I agree. You know what I mean? I completely agree. So I guess that's my last question. because the last question was
Starting point is 00:51:14 some of our tropical or some of cold and cozy. Okay, well, is there anything else that you'd like to add about this time of year? Just find me a boyfriend. Okay, I was going to say, just think about your local single girl.
Starting point is 00:51:34 Yeah, please. Just think about her. I don't know if I shared this story, but I'm going to do it with you because you're from like this new england area so jared is like my christmas elf he's obsessed with all things christmas so before he was even on the show so his early 20s he wanted to do something christmasy so he found out that this little adorable like colonial town called wickford in rhode island was going to have a tree lighting so as a 24 year old he went by himself and watched the tree
Starting point is 00:52:09 get lit with all these other little families with a hot chocolate in his hand and i'm like you are a you are my hallmark card movie you are my hallmark card movie yeah yeah can you believe you've got it i know you've got that i know i love that for you i love that for you so keep your eye out people for somebody like that with janet for janev yeah please well thank you so much I look forward to seeing you soon at Audrey's with Jill and we'll pound some of those Buddy the Elf cocktails. Oh, yeah. Thank you for having, thanks.
