Starting point is 00:02:35 Yes, we always promise you to try to bring you the most relevant, newsworthy conversations here at the Almost Famous podcast. Give everybody a platform to speak and share their story. And today we have a friend of mine, somebody I was on The Bachelorette with, somebody I was a roommate with, somebody that I've gotten to see throughout the years and seen their life change. And now there's a big change in his life. He's going to be a dad. And who we're talking about is Sean Booth. He is about to get on the podcast right now. And we can't wait to hear about how he's prepping for fatherhood and about his new podcast, which is called In The Booth. You may know Sean Booth from The Bachelorette. You may know him as a, this one's funny, fitness guy who owns a gym in Nashville. Big fitness guy. Big fitness guy, Sean Booth, the host of In The Booth, is officially with us here at the Almost Famous Podcast. Welcome back, buddy. No, thank you guys. Thanks for having me. Excited to talk with you as always. And, yeah, I started to be here. Sean, what do you want to talk about first? Your podcast? Your baby on the way? Anything from your personal life? You know, because we're going to dive into all of it.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Yeah. What do you want to talk about, actually? I want to start with the podcast in the booth. Ben's like, I will not let out. actually start here. She's going to get too headlining too early. Yeah, this will take 10 minutes. She's going to be like, all right, when did it happen? How did you do it? Tell us about the evening, how much in it, and we'll be done. But, Sean, you are the host of now in the booth that launched how many weeks ago, a couple weeks ago, right? Yeah, 10 episodes in. So a few months now. Okay. We've been doing it now for going on seven years, maybe over seven years. The Almost Famous Podcast has been moving and grooving. It's been a great experience in my life.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Ashley would have to say if it has for her or not. What are you most excited about when it comes to kind of entering into podcasts? Yeah, I'm loving just having meaningful and deep conversations with people. It's something that takes me away from, you know, the gym life, which I put so much time and energy into. It's something where I can get away for an hour, hour and a half. with interesting people, hear their background, hear their stories, and most importantly, just have some fun. So it's been a great time. It's also challenging, which I like, and something to kind of push me into something different. Why podcasting? Like, what made you think
Starting point is 00:05:06 like after all these Bachelor alums have launched podcasts, how you were going to make yours different? Yeah, because I'm not going to talk about the Bachelor every episode. Yeah. So that's, you're missing out that yeah but i do realize that i do talk a lot about my experience because obviously you know it's a big part of my life a big part of where i came from people as you know are always interested in here in the background and the nitty gritty of things with the bachelor and bachelorette so that part is fun but i also want to have conversations with people from all different walks of life and we had on like gymnasts artists all types of different people and when you're looking for guests i mean obviously here this is a bachelor focus podcast it has been for seven years a lot of our guests are coming
Starting point is 00:05:56 through the show or have been on the show um when you're looking at guests who are you trying to identify as somebody that you'd want to come on yeah so first off has kind of been friends and and luckily here in Nashville a lot of people live here so i like having people in studio as much as we can so right now it's also tough to not have like on a country artist every episode and that's what we're trying not to do but like I said we had a Sean Johnson Olympian so hearing her background story of how she competed at such a high level at such a young age and how she was able to handle that pressure and then Walker Hayes how he went from literally working at Costco to overnight going to platinum selling artists and nominated for the Grammy
Starting point is 00:06:44 I mean, so it's, for me, it's looking at people and their stories. Like, I'm very interested in their stories and what they went through, what they had to overcome to kind of get to where they are now. Has your gym allowed you to make connections with these people and then make it easy to invite them to come on? Yeah, I mean, I guess we've had them in the gym before. But, like, as you guys know, a lot of events, charity events and things like that, you run into the same types of people.
Starting point is 00:07:12 So that's kind of where we started off with reaching out. to them. And now that we're able to grow it and getting a good amount of people to listen, we can start using that and getting more different guests on. Well, obviously, you've brought up your gym. Give us an update there. You know, I've obviously been in for a workout, crushed me. Ashley knows that I am a fitness guru myself. He laughs, but he's slightly smiling as if it's kind of a joke, but the man is training for a triathlon. So he's pretty athletic. And I was with him on Bachelor Winner Games where he killed every event.
Starting point is 00:07:49 I did 10 push-ups in a row at one time. It's impressive. Sean, how's the gym going? I mean, that's been a massive project for you, a massive undertaking. Yeah, it's finally getting to the point where we can expand. And right now we're moving locations and we're in a current spot. you said the spot you've been in it's 3,000 square feet we're building out a whole new gym that's 11,000 square feet going to be done tall where we can do large group fitness small group
Starting point is 00:08:21 fitness personal training that's going to be like the hub the the headquarters for bc as we start announcing other cities that we are going into this coming year so it's a lot a lot all at once it seems like i feel that that's how life goes sometimes but yeah we're excited we put a lot of of heart, energy, tears, blood, sweat into it for five years, and now we're taking this thing to the next level. Sean, Jared jokes all the time about how you were, when you went onto the show, a real estate agent, and then, like, all of a sudden they kind of put the label of trainer on you, and then you took it and ran.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Is this true? I had my personal training certification, so I was doing, like, one-on-one training, and also doing real estate on the side. And then they, and I also worked for insurance company full time. So insurance was my full time job. And then I had real estate license and personal training. And then they, I guess, decided that insurance wasn't a sexy enough title to put on there. So I was like, yeah, I joke with Jared.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Like, all right, personal trainer, here we go. They thought software salesman was really sexy. You know, obviously, Sean, you still are in real estate. we see it on your Instagram. Are you still practicing? Are you still selling? Yeah, I do that on the side. I've got a great business partner for that who's able to handle the day-to-day stuff
Starting point is 00:09:47 while I focus on the gym stuff and podcasting and all that. So, yeah, I just came back from an open where we're listing a house right now. So it's something that I do on the side still. And I do love it, like doing my own type of investments and rehabs and all that fun stuff. So definitely into that. But the gym is definitely first and foremost. Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzoor. And I'm Drew Phillips.
Starting point is 00:10:17 And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. Have you ever wished
Starting point is 00:10:44 for a change but weren't sure how to make it? Maybe you felt stuck in a job, a place, or even a relationship. I'm Emily Tish Sussman, and on she pivots, I dive into the inspiring pivots of women who have taken big leaps in their lives and careers. I'm Gretchen Whitmer, Jody Sweeten. Monica Patton. Elaine Welterah. I'm Jessica Voss. And that's when I was like, I got to go. I don't know how, but that kicked off the pivot of how to make the transition. Learn how to get comfortable pivoting because your life is going to be full of them. Every episode gets real about the why behind these changes and gives you the inspiration and maybe the push to make your next pivot.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Listen to these women and more on She Pivots now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The U.S. Open is here. And on my podcast, Good Game with Sarah Spain, I'm breaking down the players from rising stars to legends chasing history. The predictions will we see a first time winner and the pressure. Billy Jean King says pressure is a privilege, you know. Plus, the stories and events off the court and of course the honey deuses, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very fancy, wonderfully experiential sporting event. I mean, listen, the whole aim is to be
Starting point is 00:11:59 accessible and inclusive for all tennis fans, whether you play tennis or not. Tennis is full of compelling stories of late. Have you heard about Icon Venus Williams' recent wildcard bids? Or the young Canadian, Victoria Mboko, making a name for herself? How about Naomi Osaka getting back to form? To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, an Iheart women's sports production in partnership with deep blue sports and entertainment on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. I don't write songs. God write songs. I take dictation.
Starting point is 00:12:35 didn't even know you've been a pastor for over 10 years. I think culture is any space that you live in that develops you. On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us podcast, I sat down with Warren Campbell, Grammy-winning producer, pastor, and music executive to talk about the beats, the business, and the legacy behind some of the biggest names in gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. This is like watching Michael Jackson talk about Thurley before it happened. Was there a particular moment where you realize just how instrumental music culture was to shaping all of our global. ecosystem. I was eight years old, and the Motown 25 special came on. And all the great Motown artists, Marvin, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, Diana Ross. From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, we get
Starting point is 00:13:18 into the soul of the music and the purpose that drives it. Listen to Culture raises us on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Ashley, I don't know if you're thinking the same thing I'm thinking. right now. But my question is with all this that's going on in Sean's life, and in modern times, I don't know how it all works, but I still think I know how babies are made. I don't know how he has time for it. Like when does he have time for any romance on top of all the jobs? Yeah, it's a great question. Better figure that out. Great transition, Ben. Yeah, that was a good one. He's taking cues. He's getting to the juicy stuff. He's like,
Starting point is 00:14:00 I'm ready. We can tell you how all of how it's made if you want to go into that. Do we want to go through a sign? Well, we know that Ben is really good at that. Remember on your season how Ben did the sex talk? And he told the first graders how kids did come to be. That's right. I do remember that. That's when Ben started getting the nice, lovey, cheery music.
Starting point is 00:14:23 And everybody talking about sex in front of the middle. That's when he started getting The Bachelor at it. That's when it turned. I remember that. Yeah. So you should probably explain to everybody who's listening right now. now how babies are made i would love to but i'm not i'm not there yet i we haven't seemed to figure that one out here in my household um we will though we're practicing but sean i you know
Starting point is 00:14:49 this is a huge announcement yeah in all seriousness like this kick you know kind of came out of nowhere it was unexpected i remember when i saw your teaser on the podcast and and i do want to make sure that we um tell people for an in-depth interview uh about uh shot Sean's journey to fatherhood. You can go and listen to it on his podcast. Today we're really going to sit down with Sean and talk about, you know, what's all happening in his life and how does he feel about this? But let's start here. This was shocking. Was it for us? Was it as shocking to you? Yeah. Like I said, on my podcast, it was a big surprise for the both of us, me and Dre. It wasn't something that we were trying to do, but it turned out to be a beautiful surprise. And,
Starting point is 00:15:35 And it's something that I'm ready for, that I'm excited for. And she's 20 weeks now as of yesterday. So it was shocking all the emotions you could possibly think of. And then, you know, not being able to talk about it for weeks, you know, one, because obviously it's a sensitive time where you may miscarriage and you want to have to wait 12 weeks before you can really announce any type of thing like that. And then, you know, telling our close family and friends was one thing, which was a exciting but then you know also being in this world that we come from having to eventually
Starting point is 00:16:11 kind of announce it out to the world um and and we could do our own announcement and so that's something that we did this past week and we both feel so good that it's over with and um the crazy thing for me is i'm like people actually care that i'm like i wasn't on the it's been eight years since we've been on that show ben don't you think that's crazy that people still really care about the things that you do in your life? Yeah, yeah, I mean, Ashley cares. I know that, and I come and talk to her every week, but yeah, it is wild. But it's a big, you know, it's a big, I think it's a big deal because it's surprising, right?
Starting point is 00:16:52 You weren't, you're not married, you hadn't came out publicly in a relationship. So there's a shock factor, but also I think people care. And then people, at least in the circles I talk to, are excited for you, and including my wife, who knows both you and Audrey. Yeah. You know, she has worked with her in the past. Dre, as you referred her, is a photographer. And so Jessica knew of her from Nashville.
Starting point is 00:17:19 She was excited and also shocked. Like, can you believe it, Ben, was the first thing she said to me. And I was like, I didn't see it coming, but I guess I don't really know that side of Sean's life at all. Wait, wait a second here, Ben. So you guys kind of knew, Audrey. separate from Drey separate from Jean and then you just found out last week that they're having a baby together did you have any idea that the two of them had any relationship I had no clue
Starting point is 00:17:44 no well she was at your wedding with me that would make sense well Jessica said that and I didn't but I didn't put two and two together yeah and just because I don't know was she your date or she was invited yeah she was my day and you've also met her because she was she was She came to the studio when we did that episode right after I split with Caitlin. She was there as a photographer, but we weren't dating then. That's right. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:14 So the epic interview where I still think it's one of the best, most real interviews we've ever done, she was there as a photographer and I actually remember her being there. So she's been around in your life then for five years. For five years. So when did you guys meet and how? She actually came to my gym the first week we had opened. And so a buddy of mine knew her as photographer, and we needed to get some photos and videos. And she came like the third day we were open.
Starting point is 00:18:48 And then she worked with us ever since. And she had been in a relationship. I had been in and out of relationships. And yeah, and we've dated on and off. But we've been in each other's lives for five years. Oh, see, when she went as your date to Ben's wedding, I must admit there was some speculation as to whether or not she was just a friend date or whether she was a date date. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:13 You guys did a good job concealing. Now, why have you been so private about your private life? I think that Ben kind of touched on it. I think everything was so shocking last week. It's like a 38-year-old having a baby. Why is it so shocking? But it was because you have been really private about your private life since you're split with Caitlin.
Starting point is 00:19:33 Yeah, and then my podcast, I went into all of this and explained the reasons why I've been private and I think this was two episodes ago. But I basically had said that from my experience with The Bachelor franchise and my experience with having a public relationship with Caitlin kind of scarred me maybe and I admitted maybe too much to the extreme where I wanted to keep everything super private where I felt very overwhelming in that relationship. I felt like people always just were trying to get details on our relationship. And I feel like, and you guys could probably agree, and put a lot of pressure on the relationship. And obviously, that's completely different. We were a couple on that show. So it's going to be on a massive, massive stage as opposed to this.
Starting point is 00:20:19 But for me, I always wanted to keep my private life as private as possible when I was dating after Caitlin. And I think I just had a couple bad experiences where, I'd go on dates and people would then, you know, leak that to some tabloids and make something of it that it wasn't. And I just felt kind of like I had a step back and became super guarded. And yeah, I was like, I don't really want to put anything out there in the public unless it's something that I know is going to be, I guess, serious. And so that's why I kind of kept all my private life, private. The paparazzi dates that you have been seen on,
Starting point is 00:21:01 you said that people are making them things that they aren't necessarily so are you saying that like they weren't dates or they just weren't relationships that you didn't want to go public with yet don't say like girls like girls that I've gone out with that have then sold you know tabloids or girls that have been called paparazzi like that was all very just weird to me and um yeah it was just a weird situation so and then people just always seeming like Since they know me for being on a dating show, they know me from being in a relationship with Caitlin. They want to know my relationship status. And I just kind of was thrown off by that and kind of didn't want to make that a main talking point with everybody, you know?
Starting point is 00:21:46 I don't know. I mean, for me, you know, I, after the breakup with Lauren, nobody knew at least outside of friendships and in close relationships to me, anybody I was dating until Jessica. Yeah. And one of the big reasons, reasons for that for me. I love the paparazzi. I always felt like I was looking good in those pictures. I was always welcomed them in. But the biggest problem was the, I felt like the pressure. Like you go on one date with somebody, right? Maybe. And then afterwards it would get released. And then you would have, I always felt like it was harder to either end that relationship or never going to date again or have to respond to it in an interview like, hey, we see you're dating this
Starting point is 00:22:28 person. I'm like, that happened once. And now nobody wants to date me. because they think I'm already in a relationship. And then they know how many first dates I go on. And that doesn't feel like a great, like, thing for everybody to know. So mostly it was me just protecting, like, my sanity from trying to always explain myself. And I hate breaking up the way it is. So I don't want to have to really ever break up if, you know, or talk about one-date relationships. I think you nailed it there perfectly been.
Starting point is 00:22:55 I felt the same exact way. And I had also said, too, that I felt like kind of trying to protect the people. pause in a relationship with as well because again so say you start dating somebody you throw it all over social media people start kind of trying to get stuff out of them asking them questions it doesn't work and then what and then you go to the next one the next one the next one the next one um so i think it was just a lot of guarding and protecting of her and just maybe my sanity as well and i admit it maybe too much so where i maybe i should have not cared so much so much So I know people don't care that much.
Starting point is 00:23:33 And I think in my head, it was just tough for me to put out a relationship back out in the public. Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzoor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh, my God, perfect. Starting point is 00:26:53 Listen to Culture raises us on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Do you find it to be interesting the way that your relationship with Caitlin just seems to be one that the fandom still cares about, sort of, five years removed? Yeah, I do. It's, yeah, I mean, it's wild because then I ask people, I'm like, who was your ex five years ago? You know, like, if you take anybody who wasn't on a TV show, it's like, you know, everybody moves on. with their lives. I start dating other people. But again, I understand that's how people know us and that's where we come from. And I think people really enjoyed that relationship. And I think people still trying to make connections one way or another. I think that's probably something I have to
Starting point is 00:27:45 deal with for a while. I think there's probably a lot of people out there that would love to see the reconciliation if two were room to end up with the people that you're publicly with right now. yeah i think it also the way it ended too right it was just like boom done and then done yeah like it was also it wasn't a clean breakup you know there was some he said she said stuff and i just think that mostly it speaks to the fact that like your seat that season was epic it was such a love story as somebody who's like obviously a friend but also a little bit separate was i was a fan and a end while watching that season there was just so much passion like you guys it was a great romance so you're talking about me kately or sean and kately yeah it was it was and i and i had um
Starting point is 00:28:42 your old ball and chain been on the podcast yesterday oh nice yeah oh nice didn't know didn't know and i was talking about too i'm like it's just such a it's a crazy crazy world because Because everybody's like, who's friends with who? Who's the, I'm like, you can't really explain it, right? It's like Ben's friends with Caitlin and her fiancé, and it's like, then I run to Lauren here in Nashville. Oh, Lauren, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:10 Yeah. What do you think he was talking about? I was an old ball and chain? Isn't that supposed to be like your significant other? Old, yeah. I mean, I'd say we were pretty significant for a period of time. Yeah, I thought that was referring to a current, like a, The old wife, the old lady.
Starting point is 00:29:28 The old ball and Jane. But to that point was, I was talking to her and I was like, I think that our seasons were some of the wildest crazy seasons there were. And I think that the storylines of those two seasons in particular were just unlike any other. And I think that's why they got so much attention. Yeah. They did get a lot of attention. And I think there was, I think there was a genuineness to him too from all sides.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Like everybody involved, like, I talked to Ashley about this in our podcast a lot. When I was on The Bachelorette, I didn't really feel, especially as we got going, there was anybody there who wasn't at least there to try to figure out like something. Either it was a relationship with Caitlin or it was maybe figuring out who they were and what they were looking for. But there was never this pursuit of fame or how can I be the loudest voice or how can I make the most drama? It was it was very much of a, you felt like everybody at least there was representing themselves. sell as well. And on the season of The Bachelor that I was a part of, the cast felt the same way. There wasn't, you know, the people out there that just look like they're trying to get
Starting point is 00:30:34 Instagram following. And one of those reasons is because Instagram didn't really exist. And so it wasn't a thing that we were pursuing. We were mostly trying to, you know, make this world makes sense in some level. And I like what you're saying, Sean, because it is in Bachelor Nation. It is a weird thing. We're like, yes, you know that Ashley's a friend with, friends with Caitlin, right? I've been around Jason many times. I'm friends with Jason. I haven't talked to Caitlin in years, but I would say if I saw her,
Starting point is 00:31:00 I'd love to see Caitlin. Like, it would be great to see her. I'd enjoy seeing her. And, you know, with Lauren, like for years of my life, and this is leading to a question I have for you, for years of my life, I really didn't want to see her.
Starting point is 00:31:12 Not because I hated her, not because I disliked her. It was just felt weird and awkward, and I didn't know what I would say, and I didn't really know what good could come from running into her again. Like, it was just not something I was looking forward to, until really this year
Starting point is 00:31:25 which is how many years later where I played golf with her husband in a golf tournament and he was awesome he was great we had a blast her dad was there
Starting point is 00:31:32 I have nothing but like great memories they were two people I hung out with the most really at that tournament and then I said I could see Lauren because it's not weird anymore
Starting point is 00:31:41 I mean it'd still be but I could like check in in our life and so my question for you and I've never understood this about you you have a massive public breakup with Caitlin
Starting point is 00:31:52 everybody's talking about it everybody wants to know more but you live miles away from each other like you live in the same city and you still go about your day without that like looking over your shoulder i mean i would be in airport sometimes going through like la or portland be like i feel like i'm going to run into her i feel like and i don't want to so how in the world did you stay in the same city as Caitlin and function. Yeah, it's crazy to think about how in the five years, six, since we've broken up, I've seen her physically once at the same venue. And something else I talked about my podcast is that I've run into Jason now.
Starting point is 00:32:36 I feel like four times in the past year. And it's just like all of a sudden I see him everywhere, but I only seen Caitlin one time. And I don't know if it's because she's probably traveling much more than I am. I don't know how much time she spends here in the city. Nashville is a small town. As you know, everybody knows everybody. It's not like L.A. where you can go out one night and you have hundreds and hundreds of different options. Everybody kind of ends up in the same places.
Starting point is 00:33:03 So, yeah, it's strange that I haven't really seen her. How'd that run and go? Did you guys speak? No, we didn't speak. We were at a comedy show. and I was actually somebody was sitting next to me and somebody goes, oh my God, Caitlin Bristow's here. And then I was like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Like, obviously like your heart sinks. Yeah. I'm like, I haven't seen her. I'm like, where is she? And then I didn't see her in there. I wasn't trying to avoid her at all. And then I was walking out the back door and she was like in the room with the comedian, like behind the stage or whatever.
Starting point is 00:33:43 So I just looked over, I saw her and just kept walking and just went about my night. I have so many more questions about, obviously, this run-in, about your, what exactly you are with Audrey, with Dre. I do want to close this and say to Dre, who may listen to this, it's not like I don't remember you for my wedding. There's 500 people there. There's a lot going on. There was a lot of people there in your wedding. Yeah. I felt bad for you guys because you're just getting hounded the whole time. I'm having to walk around and that pressure of having to talk to everybody. It's like you can only talk to you for a few minutes because it's just everybody wants to see the new couple. That's got to be tough. It was tough. I'm glad we did the way we did it. I never want to do it again, which is good because I don't plan on it. And I know Ashley has been anxiously awaiting. I take a step back. No, anxiously awaiting diving in to some really. deep, good questions about the future of Sean Booth.
