The social media trend is slanding some Jen Z years in jail.
Starting point is 00:02:23 The progressive media darling whose public meltdown got her fired and the massive TikTok boycott against Target. that actually makes no sense. You won't hear about these online stories in the mainstream media, but you can keep up with them and all the other entertaining and outrageous things happening online in media and in politics with the Brad versus Everyone podcast. Listen to the Brad versus Everyone podcast on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:50 This is the Ben and Ashley I, almost famous podcast with Iheart Radio. It's the almost famous podcast, and we're here today, back with you, and as we enter into the new year, it's great to set intentions. We want to kick this off talking to my wife, Jess, who made a great social media video about what she wants in and out for 2026. Ashley, I feel like this is a conversation I'm intrigued by, but I also feel like I could really quickly tell you my ins and outs, and they're very, very few. My ends for 2026 are I want to continue to get eight hours of sleep a night. I want to drink more water. I want to work out more. I want to read more. I guess that's my big end. My outs are social media
Starting point is 00:03:44 scrolling. I'm done with it. And I really mean it. I'm done with it. It's never good for me, Ashley. It brings on jealousy and envy. And I just like, I'm not a better man when I do it. And as a result, I do think my social media will take a hit. However, it's healthier for me. And I got to make those decisions for me and my family. That's a big out that it's going to be difficult, but it's an out. I'm also going to another out for me is politics. I've stayed really involved in politics in 2025, trying to figure out what in the world was happening in this world and why people are doing what they're doing and who's doing what and all that. At the end of the day, those people are no, I don't know if they know more than me, but there's a lot going on
Starting point is 00:04:26 behind the scenes that I can never keep up with. And so it was just exhausting. Social media, politics, outs for me. Another out for me is chips. I'm going to cut back on my chipping. No, no. Eat these chips that I have discovered. They're called Massa chips.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Oh, Jess just got them. They're so good. I ate a whole bag. They're unreal. I eat the whole bag, too, in a serving. I mean, like, in a sitting. I don't know if that's better or worse. It doesn't have any seed oils.
Starting point is 00:04:58 It's only beef tallow, corn, and sea salt, and the crunch of these things, the textures out of this. So good. So good. Okay, so that's mine. That wasn't an ad, guys. I just love the moss. They're really good.
Starting point is 00:05:13 I'm with you. I'm going to pass this off to a better co-host than me, Jessica. She's going to sit down in my seat while I'll take the baby for a walk. You guys finish up the ends and outs from 2020. 26 from a girl's perspective because she knows a lot more about this than I do. So, Jess, let's go down your ins and outs, which I did love. I remember that like threw me back to the early 2000s when the magazines would all do ins and outs, like people magazine had a huge issue about that.
Starting point is 00:05:43 And I was such a magazine girl and I still like subscribe to all the online ones. And so I love reading like ins and outs or like seeing best dress lists. Like it's one of my favorite parts of the year. okay so you did your outs late night screens i'm gonna i'm gonna talk about each one as we go down so late night screens i one of my resolutions is to not do late night scrolling so at 10 p.m because i'm a night owl i'll like stay up till one which i really need to stop doing that like really make at least 1230 my bedtime but from 10 to 1230 i want no scrolling Like, if I have to respond to a text or whatever, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Different. But no scrolling. And I wanted to make more TV into my life. I know more people who I'd be like, you should read in bed. I'm like, no, I like want to like be invested in shows and like watch two hours of TV because that is my ultimate relaxing time. Do you want like, me time? Fictional or non-fictional shows? Anything.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Just like whatever is popular and like I'm into. Like I just want, I love shows. And I don't watch enough shows. it takes me, you know, with the kids and me scrolling in bed, I'll like watch one show a day and it'll take me forever to get through a series. And I'm like, you know what? I need to just have more TV time in my life. I love that for you. I used to be a huge reader and then I stopped reading because I got into TV. And so that's where that out came from is I want to like actually read again. Get render reading. I miss it. Okay. Yeah. That's like really relaxing for me.
Starting point is 00:07:22 I also, once having the kids, I used to read too because I used to be able to have so much more time to watch TV than I'd be like, okay, in bed, I'll read. And Jared and I would read there. But now I'm like, well, if I got to pick one or the other, not picking TV. That's the one. Okay. Overthinking things. Are you an overthinker? I used to not be.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Then I became one. Like when I started my skincare clinic and then started to post more online, I started to overthink things a little bit more. I need to think more about, like, my words before I speak them, I think. But I overthink things after the fact. And I need to stop doing that because then you just stay up all night. Yeah. I don't think I've really ever been an overthinker. Maybe in my 20 is like over-analizing boy situations.
Starting point is 00:08:11 But I think if only over-analyzed boy situations. I never have, which for better or worse. Yeah, you were just chill at the boys. And then you got a DM from Ben Higgins and it all worked out. No, I literally never even had a boyfriend before Ben, so that's probably, like, not a great thing. So then you say rushing. I totally relate to that. I am always rushing because it takes getting out of the house with kids forever.
Starting point is 00:08:43 And then, like, I think I allow enough time to do it, and I don't. It's kind of, like, bedtime for the kids, too. it's like oh like 45 minutes for bedtime routine should be enough just like 45 minutes to get them and myself dressed and teeth brushing out of the house should be enough but then you realize that like it may take like a full-blown Disney movie to do that like it's like an hour and 20 minutes yeah especially I can't imagine with two kids because like getting me and winnie ready to go and then like you arrive at the place and you have to get ready to go again like everything takes time and I've been trying to fit too much into a day and then I don't enjoy it as much because
Starting point is 00:09:25 I miss like the little moments with her that I know like she's already almost one and I feel like I can barely remember some things and so I just want to be ultra present and I think that's slowing down has a lot to do with that so scheduling like one activity a day or one destination and then just kind of chilling yeah I totally agree just being more present and I think that sometimes for moms at least I'm finding myself in the situation because we seemingly may have like been able to get like a couple more hours of help and like I struggle with the okay so if we have our nanny over for a few more hours a week that makes me feel guilty though because I'm not spending those time that time with my kids but then I go you know what you're going to spend more quality time with the kids because you're not going to be trying to cram in work on your phone when you're with them you're not going to, like, put a movie on so that you could be on the computer. So even though they might be with somebody else or a few more hours, like, you'll be so much more present with them the time that you have. Yes.
Starting point is 00:10:28 And it matters more to them to get that attention. Yeah, totally. And, like, no matter what. And, like, that's why I wake up early. That's why I've, like, put these things in because we don't have, like, in-house help right now. It's me and Ben, the alternate. But, like, when it's my turn, like, I want to be so present. So putting all the things away
Starting point is 00:10:49 and doing it during that time or something. Yeah, exactly. Hi, I'm Dr. Priyanko Wally. And I'm Hurricane DeBolu. It's a new year. And on the podcast's Health Stuff, we're resetting the way we talk about our health. Which means being honest about what we know,

It starts with giving your mind and your spirit the same attention you give your goals. Hey everybody, it's Michelle Williams. host of Checking in
Starting point is 00:14:18 on the Black Effect Podcast Network and on my podcast, we talk mental health, healing, growth and everything you need to step into your next season, whole and empowered. New Year, real you. Listen to checking in with Michelle Williams
Starting point is 00:14:34 from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. The moments that shape us often begin with a simple question. What do I want my life to look like now. I'm Dr. Joy Harden Bradford.
Starting point is 00:14:50 And on therapy for black girls, we create space for honest conversations about identity, relationships, mental health, and the choices that help us grow. As cybersecurity expert, Camille Stewart Gloucester reminds us, we are in a divisive time where
Starting point is 00:15:06 our comments are weaponized against us. And so what we find is a lot of black women are standing up and speaking out because they feel the brunt of the Hey. Each week, we explore the tools and insights that help you move with purpose. Whether you're navigating something new or returning to yourself. If you're ready for thoughtful guidance and grounded support, this is the place for you. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Snoozing alarms. I'm not going to subscribe to that. I like to snoozing alarms. I'm not going to subscribe to that. I like to snooze. snooze.
Starting point is 00:15:47 So does Ben. It's a big snoozer. Washing your hair every day. You would wash your hair every day? I desperately need to. Obviously, I have a mask in it right now. It gets greasy so fast. But when it's clean, it looks so good.
Starting point is 00:16:04 I love how it looks when it's clean. That's so funny because you saw that I did this. I took your inspiration and I made my own kind of like small goals for the year. and I posted that yesterday, and I said washing my hair more, not every day. I'm so bad. Like, I'll do once a week. But my hair used to be so greasy, but when I'm on spironalactone, it's not that, it's not that greasy because it cuts that, you know, that oil production gland stuff out.
Starting point is 00:16:36 But every time I wash my hair, like the next morning, because I'll do it at night, I'll, like, look in the mirror and be like, wow, he looks super fresh. Like, why do you look so much better than you usually do? I'm like, oh, that's because you washed your hair last night, woman. So if I can at least do it twice a week, that it'll be good. Yeah, I was a once a weeker. I've upped it to twice. So we're like easing our way in.
Starting point is 00:16:55 But when I do it, I feel so much better. And you say hangovers. How often would you get a hangover? I feel like you don't even, you wouldn't often get a hangover. Well, the problem is not like I already was such a lightweight that I didn't drink for like two years between trying to get pregnant, being pregnant. And then like when I was breastfeeding, I would like drink a little bit. and not use that breast milk or whatever. And a couple of drinks and I'm on my butt.
Starting point is 00:17:19 So I'm trying to be more strategic. Okay. Because it is something that, like, I do enjoy, but I don't want to be hungover because being a parent hungover is... I can't even tell at this point whether it's like the one glass of wine that I had the night before that gives me a headache in the morning or whether it's just hormonal or me being old or like being dehydrated by just not the wine but not drinking enough water. You never know what it's being caused by, but I can't say I've had a hangover in a very long time, but I take precaution.
Starting point is 00:17:52 Like if I go to a Jonas concert and that's usually where I like go hard, you know, like three drinks and I'm like really feeling it. I, you know, I had the fattiest greasiest meal afterward. I'm usually okay. Advil before you go to bed. Work out longer than 30 minutes. If only I could work out for 30 minutes. Wasn't that my out though? I don't want to work out for longer than that.
Starting point is 00:18:17 Yeah, your out is longer than 30 minutes. You're right. I feel like especially as women, like we just do not have to go over 30 minutes. And I, sorry, I'm like babbling. You're very easy to talk to you, Jess. I miss you. I'll miss you. When I did work out before I had the kids, that was my goal where I was like, you know,
Starting point is 00:18:37 you don't have to do more than 30, 40 minutes on a long day. because then you'll actually do it. Exactly. If you're like, okay, 20 minutes. Like, you can do 20 minutes. That's like a quarter of a nap. But if you are like an hour, there's just no way. All right.
Starting point is 00:18:53 I'm going to go into your ins because these are great for the ladies out there. Inns reapplying SPF throughout the day. Do you do this if you have makeup on with one of the powders? I do it with a powder or the, have you seen the skin better compact? Yeah, I love the skin. and better compact. It's so incredible. So good. And if you apply it with a makeup brush, it's even better. It looks like makeup. It is the best. I'm telling you guys, if you ever needed something
Starting point is 00:19:22 that was somewhere between a tinted moisturizer to a full-fledged foundation, this thing matches your skin tone. It has this magic power to it where it matches whatever your skin color is. I guess. It's amazing. I don't know how to do it. It's totally acne safe too. SPF 68. It's got physical protective in it. It's amazing. It's so, it's so, so good. Glazed skin donut at night, glazed donut skin at night. What's your best? What's your best? Tip for that. I don't think people moisturized enough. You, especially going to bed, that's like your recovery time for your skin. It's under so much stress during the day. So you really do want to like almost lipstick when you go to bed. The other night, Ben came in and he goes,
Starting point is 00:20:10 I have my donut skin. He, like, did his full skin carried. He's so cute. That is so amazing. I have found that this winter being just absolutely brutally cold in the northeast, that my skin that normally isn't dry or flaky is freaking flaking. So even layering like an oil or goop has this balm and it's totally non-poor clogging acne safe. If you layer it on top of areas, especially that get flaky before you go to bed,
Starting point is 00:20:37 it's, you'll wake up with, like, the most amazing skin and none of that flakiness. Okay, great. And if you do have flakiness, what do you like to use as an exfoliant to get that off before you do a fresh start? I would use an enzyme when it's like wintertime because sometimes scrubs, if you're already feeling flaky and red, it can be a little bit too intense. And then if a serum burns, you probably don't want to use that either. Enzymes are super gentle. They're like little Pacmin on the skin.
Starting point is 00:21:04 So they're just eating away at dead skin. Oh. And Epicutus has a really good one that you can add to any cleanser. So that one's great. And it lasts for like a year. It lasts forever. I'm obsessed with the fact that you just call it a Pac-Man for your skin because that's exactly what I need right now. Yes.
Starting point is 00:21:21 I'll send you one. No, really? Yeah, of course. Okay. Let's see. What other skin care trends are we going to see in 2016, you think? As an aesthetician, guys. Exosomes are really big, but there's not a ton of research on them. So I would say that's going to be a proceed with caution one, especially if they're human derived, because sometimes that can end up causing more problems than benefiting. But they're meant to be like little messengers. So they're supposed to tell your skin how to function more properly. So it could be a great thing. But those are going to be really in. As Lake Acid is having a moment. It's not really an acid, though. It's more of like a skin.
Starting point is 00:22:05 calmer. So don't think of it as, like, you could use it in conjunction with other acids. It's not going to be too much, but it's going to help with redness. Those are the two big ones I see. What skincare outs are there? I think a really big out is going to be over-exploiting. That one's been out for a while. I think really intensive treatments are going to be out because people are realizing they can get the same results with less downtime. So I think things that like take you out for a whole week or make your skin super red. We're saying, seeing that's causing more damage than benefits because you can get bounce back issues. So, like, if you're doing something for your melasma, like a laser or a really deep
Starting point is 00:22:43 deal, you can get bounced back melasma if you're not taking care of it afterwards. So I think those really intensive treatments are going to be out. Oh, my goodness. This is so compelling. I can talk about this for literally seven hours. Oh, my gosh. On your in's list, you say quality personalized skin care. So how do you recommend people get personalized skin care?
Starting point is 00:23:05 that's where like, I mean, obviously I'm biased because my job is to be an esthetician, but I think seeing someone who can tell you, even there's so much virtual stuff you can do now where you can either chat with someone virtually or even upload a photo and get a personalized recommendation from like a brand or a website you love. Yeah. But that's what's more important than whatever your favorite influencers talking about. So when I talk about skincare, I try to be really specific about who it's for because what I use might not work for you. We have different skin. And if you'd just keep like trying things and spending money, you can, again, cause more harm than good, because
Starting point is 00:23:37 if you keep switching up your products looking for something that works, that can sensitize the skin, cause barrier issues. So you really want to start with something that's like tailored towards you and your concerns as opposed to just throwing something at the wall and seeing with sticks. Hi, I'm Dr. Priyanko Wali. And I'm Hurricane DeBolu. It's a new year. And on the podcast Health stuff, we're resetting the way we talk about our health. Which means being honest about what we know, what we don't know, and how messy it can all be. I like to sleep in late and sleep early.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Is there a chronotype for that or am I just depressed? We talk to experts who share real experiences and insight. One of my resolutions ends, whatever you want to call it, for myself, is that I want to like, probably just put a little bit more everything. like when like what like I said like I washed my hair and I'm like oh it looks nice I curl my hair which in my head takes so long but it really takes 10 minutes and then I'm like oh that looks so nice and then um just like 10 minute makeup because if I really timed it I think that I look pretty nice after just 10 minutes of makeup as a mom how do you how often do you put yourself together like that because I do think most of us in this era aren't doing it that often. And some people will argue that it makes you feel so much better about yourself. But then sometimes I'm like, ugh, but am I letting my skin,
Starting point is 00:29:37 should I just be letting my skin breathe? Like, am I going to feel better about myself? And I'm just like making my skin like super hydrated and making it, making it look perfect for a future moment that matters more. Is that like a, the way? weirdest mentality. That's just one I've had for a long time. No, I totally get it. The thing, like, and now, and especially, like, coming from early 2000s when we learned how to use our makeup, like, that stuff was not good for your skin. But there's so much makeup now that has skincare benefits. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:09 So if you're like, this makes me feel better, you can find makeup that's going to actually help your skin. So, like, color science and CL are two brands that are sunscreen makeup. Yeah. And that's great. It's so good for your skin. It's going to add that particular. So when we talk about reapplying, like that minimizes that. Merit is really good for your skin. It has skincare benefits. Typology is another one.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Like there's so many brands like that that actually can enhance your skin. I have my makeup routine down to three minutes. Holy crap. Well, that's because your skin is perfect. That's like the problem is like I'm trying to cover my skin for most of that time. And then I can just throw a mascara on and lip liner. So maybe your resolution is like, to get that skin care, invest in your skin care
Starting point is 00:30:54 so you don't have to do time for makeup. No, you know this. I'm the most regimented about my skincare. It's just I'm so pigmented from past acne. And with molasma, I don't really mind the brown spots as much as I mind the red spots. Those, like, bring me down. But that's what my goal in life would be
Starting point is 00:31:16 to just not have to wear foundation and then to just do a little eye makeup. Yep. But it'll probably never come. And that's okay. But that is really good advice that you're saying that don't feel guilty about putting makeup on because it's not damaging your skin if you choose the right brand. Because, yes, in the 2000s, everybody was like, well, you can put the foundation on, but by you covering up, it's going to make it worse in the long run. Yes, exactly. That doesn't exist anymore. Yes. Fantastic. This is just a great time. All right. I will end with. One of mine that I think is worth talking about to you because you and Ben, I feel like you do your walks. You're so good at doing your walks.
Starting point is 00:32:03 We love our walk. I can feel in my body. I don't get like seasonal depression. I get like seasonally bummed out because I'm such a warm weather girl. I know that when I lived in L.A., I didn't miss the seasons at all. I thought it was so wonderful. And like I just like love the heat and humidity of Florida. I maybe should live in a non-seasonal place.
Starting point is 00:32:26 But in Rhode Island, it's freaking freezing. So cold. And it's so cold with you guys in Denver. How do you get out comfortably and like want to actually be out there? My body feels the depletion of the vitamin D. Like I feel the lethargy that like I need fresh air and I need sunlight. And I just don't want to get it because it's so uncomfortable. Well, it's so different for you.
Starting point is 00:32:51 you because you have like first of all the wet cold the wind chill and it's cloudy like we get sunshine most days at some point the sun comes out so it really is completely different here than the northeast but i will say investing in like a really good jacket is the best thing i've ever done and then ben got me heated gloves and like we wear hats like you have to be like over dressed for the elements and then you're comfortable like it takes us like five minutes to get the door for a walk because i'm getting all the way dressed up okay Yeah, that's another thing. It's just like, oh, is it worth it to go through all of that bundling?
Starting point is 00:33:25 I know. And especially with the kids, like, if I'm going to put Hayden in the stroller and take him, like, is he cold? Is he uncomfortable? I know. You have to overdress them and it does take time, but we do feel so much better. Okay. Like, it helps both of our mood so much. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:43 All right. Thank you. Thank you for the encouragement. You can do it. Just get a really good jacket. It's a good reason to go shopping. Oh, I have a really good one. It's long.
Starting point is 00:33:51 It comes down to my knees. Yeah. It's really good. It is. I can do it. I can do it. All right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:58 Is there anything that you want Ben to do differently in 2026? I have one for Jared and he doesn't know, but I tried it. What's yours for Jared? Okay. The man has been like going a long bouts without shaving, like trimming, because obviously I don't want him to shave. I like him with like a two-day scruff, like one or two-day scruff. And he's been, like, pushing 10 days. And I'm like, sir, can you trim?
Starting point is 00:34:26 You look like a billy goat. So now whenever, I don't say, unless we have a special occasion. And I'm like, are you going to trim for that? I'll just be like, he looks so nice. And you look so good like this. Like, every time he does freshly buzz. So that's my near-yard solution for Jared is, can you just, like, keep the billy goat away from it? So you're just going to hint at it a little bit?
Starting point is 00:34:47 Yeah, I'm just going to keep hinting at it. Okay. he just like has the most beautiful bone structure right his bone structure is insane yeah and i'm like when you have all those stringy hairs it just like takes away from it yeah just trim up yeah okay and then yours for ben is a good question i haven't thought about this not that it's like appropriate to have a resolution for your husband but mine's pretty light so i thought i'd throw it out there i know I mean, he's just so handsome. I can't think of anything.
Starting point is 00:35:18 But I do think I want him to, like, talk nicer to himself. I think he can be self-deprecating. Okay. That's good. And he shouldn't be because he's amazing. And I wish that he saw himself the way that I do. I know. That's so true.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Ditto for Jared on that one as well. Already, well, I guess that wraps it up. Appreciate you coming and doing this. This is fun. My pleasure. All right. Well, until next time. I've been Ashley. I've been Jess. Bye.
