Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, luckily, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend's been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That seems inappropriate. Maybe find out how it ends by listening to the OK Storytime podcast and the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I was diagnosed with cancer on Friday and cancer free the next Friday. No chemo, no radiation, none of that. On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us podcast, I sat down with Warren Campbell, Grammy-winning producer, pastor, and music executive to talk about the beats, the business, and the legacy behind some of the biggest names in gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. Professionally, I started at Deadwell Records. From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, we get into the soul of the music and the purpose that drives it. Listen to Culture raises us on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:08 The U.S. Open is here, and on my podcast, Good Game with Sarah Spain. I'm breaking down the players, the predictions, the pressure, and of course the honey deuses, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very wonderfully experiential sporting event. To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, and IHeart Women's Sports Production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:01:32 or wherever you get your podcasts. Brought to you by Novartis, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports Network. Why are TSA rules so confusing? You got a hood of you. I take it all! I'm Manny. I'm Noah. This is Devin. And we're best friends and journalists
Starting point is 00:01:47 with a new podcast called No Such Thing, where we get to the bottom of questions like that. Why are you screaming at me? I can't expect what to do. Now, if the rule was this, the same. Go off on me. I deserve it. You know, lock him up. Listen to no such thing on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. No such thing. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom.
Starting point is 00:02:16 If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. This is the Ben and Ashley I, almost famous podcast with IHeartRadio.
Starting point is 00:02:45 This is the Almost Famous podcast, and this is an episode that is going to be pure chaos. Absolute Madness. We have Susan, Kathy, and Nancy here. Hi. just almost famous favorites, really. I mean, we have this kind of like regulars thing and friends of the podcast, but these are favorites at this point.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Bob and I are sharing a mic because there's so many in here. Bob has so many good questions for you. I'm going to pass the mic off to him now to get this thing started, which is going to be very, I'm like nervous because I feel like this thing could just blow up any second.
Starting point is 00:03:20 They're waiting. But wait, wait. Why do you feel it's going to be chaos? Because I'm here. Because I'm here. Have you met you? Kathy's here. I'm just saying.
Starting point is 00:03:31 First of all, while they haven't met you enough, you're the quiet one. We love Nancy. We love Nancy. We love it. We love it. We're back, man.
Starting point is 00:03:40 We're back, baby. Yes. We're back. And we're not going anywhere. And it's our boy Ben's baby shower. I can't. Could not be happier for you.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Honestly, and you got the beautiful hat on Nancy. You look so gorgeous in the almost famous bunny hat. And you were a little worried about being a ski. bunny, you said. Totally. It's 62. A 62 adorable ski bunny. Thank you. Right?
Starting point is 00:04:03 So guys, let's get around with it. Let's get out of the gates here. Yeah, well, I need to steal it for a second because we need to talk about Disney yesterday. Roller coasters. Yeah, whoever, let's start with Nancy and then we'll move this way in order. I want to hear a breakdown at Disney before we get
Starting point is 00:04:22 into any baby stuff, any life stuff, any of that stuff. We have a lot of more of that coming. But we went on a VIP tour. Did you have a plaid vest person? Yes. Yes. Jeff. Jeff. He's handsome and he was a fabulous tour guide. And his wife. And we had a ball. We waited in no lines. I actually felt bad. But we went on all these great rides. We went on cars. We went on Soren. At what? Everybody had a ball. And we were. We're like, oh, my God, we want to go again.
Starting point is 00:04:58 So it was a blast. The plaid vass make you feel like you run Disney, don't they? Can I just say, I have never. Kathy, Kathy Sterner. I have to say, I've never been to Disneyland. This was my first time. Your first time? First time.
Starting point is 00:05:12 I was a Disneyland virgin. Everyone has to be a virgin one time. It was the, so they say. It was. Hence the terms. So I love roller coasters and soren. because I love to travel. I got to go to Greece and Brazil and
Starting point is 00:05:31 I can't even tell you all the countries. Just in like 10 minutes. Is the Epcot Center? I don't know what it was, but it's called Soren. Sorin? And then... Is that the Epcotts Center? No.
Starting point is 00:05:42 No, it was at Disneyland. And then I went on the... I went on the... Beautiful person. I went on the roller coasters with Joan. I think I have a broken hand. And Nancy. And Space Mount.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Sorry. Space Mountain. Fabules. Now, when I went to Disneyland, and this is to Susan, because she hasn't got to speak yet, and she's been so good sitting over there. So quiet. Aren't I behaving?
Starting point is 00:06:05 She's behaving so well. I want to start. I remember my favorite ride at Disneyland was toys. Or cars. Sorry. Cars. Oh, yes. We did it.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And it was awesome. Is it as good as I remember? I didn't get to the, though. She was sick. She never did. I had bronchitis going through this, but wait, we went through the exit ride. This was yesterday. So what are one of my students?
Starting point is 00:06:26 I am still sick. Just get some vitamin C. Full-blown antibiotics. I'm not contagious anymore. But we went through the exit lines like you were saying. My favorite was that Star Wars one. Rise of the resistance. Can I just say?
Starting point is 00:06:43 Rise of the resistance. I can never go back again. Once you do a VIP tour. No, that's true. You can never go back. I did it in Disney World with Sarah Highland. No. And my wife.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Welles, Sarah, Brett, and Autumn. So Brett is Wells' brother. We all did it last year at this time. And I'm with you. Once you do it once you do it once with a plaid, you'll never be able to do it again. I know. I've already put my thing with Amy Sugarman to come back in April and do it again.
Starting point is 00:07:12 It was incredible. When I get my grandchildren, we need a plaid. Yeah. Well, there's a price. You know what? I'll give one of my grandchildren to go do it again. Two guys back in the day. I used to host this thing in Orlando, and it was a Super Soap Weekend,
Starting point is 00:07:28 and it was all the soap stars and all that kind of stuff. Oh, wow. And I had a plaid every year for five years. Oh, my. And I forgot what it was like to go to Disney World without it. And then when I went back, uh, by my soft, I was like, this, what in the world? I can't come here anymore. No one's running to get me French fries.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Where are my cheese sticks? I was losing my mind. The churros. It is, it's a churils are spectacular. Next level. When we talk about privilege, but once you feel it, you'll never go back. But overall, if you were to use one word and we'll go start with Susan, we'll go to Kathy and then ends with Nancy and we'll come back around. One word to describe your experience at Disneyland.
Starting point is 00:08:12 What would it be? How does it have to be one word? It could be like three. It could be a series of words. Beyond spectacular, beyond awesome. Magical. exhilarating. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:08:25 Yeah. Wow, that was so good. Can I... Can I say something? You're welcome Disney, our new advertiser. When I was, it was an out-of-body experience. We went on Space Mountain. Kathy and I were in the same little car.
Starting point is 00:08:42 And I hadn't been on Space Mountain for 25 years. And we're on and Joan and Chalk. We're all on. We miss Susan. and we put our hands up, you know, it's all in the dark. And all of a sudden, all I could do is keep my head down. And you know the picture at the end, they take pictures while you're coming out. Nancy's missing.
Starting point is 00:09:05 And all I was saying was, hold me, Kathy. And I took care of my friend. Did I take care of you? She held you. Now, as we move into the baby phase of this time, How, I mean, all of you here have kids, at least in grandkids. How many times were you at Disneyland with the plaid going, I wish my family was here? I'm going, I'm going to start it this way with you guys.
Starting point is 00:09:36 So when I did it, I didn't have any children when I had the plaid. And now that I have children, my wife, you know, Canyon and Ben knows her well. She's like, yeah, we're not, we're not going without a plat. Yes. I'm with your, I'm with Canyon. And I'm like, I'm like, what? She goes, we're not waiting in line. I can't afford it.
Starting point is 00:09:53 Well, yeah, but we, you know, we can't either. It's like, oh, my God. So it's like one of those things where you're like, I wish I wouldn't have wasted it. I didn't waste it because my nephew was at me back in the day. But it's like now that I finally have my own children. I didn't even know what the plaid was. Honestly, I didn't know what a VIP. Back when I took my kids, we were there 18 times.
Starting point is 00:10:10 I thought buying the fast pass was something. We still had a wait in line. I had no clue what a pat plaid was. I didn't either. It's one step up. I'm done. It's the secret society. It's like the in-and-out burger hidden
Starting point is 00:10:24 men. That's what it is. So, I mean, I don't know what the cost is. It's at least... I do know. I will say this. I will say this. I think in a very modest moment,
Starting point is 00:10:36 I'm going to say it's minimum five grand. So if you're somebody out there who's listening going, I have 30 people I want to bring. We'd like to go. Chip in. Bring 36 and we're in. Yeah, 100 bucks a person, we're good.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Yeah, good, exactly. Let's get plaids. Plads are incredible. But Disneyland and Disney World are just special places. They are magical. And we are here tonight to talk about babies. And that's magical. Wait, can I just say one more thing about Disney.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Yeah, you can say anything you want. I've never been before. So, seeing the way it was decorated for Christmas. Oh, it's so magical, isn't it? And Jeff said it takes a whole team of workers two and a half weeks from mid-a-half weeks from midnight till six in the morning to decorate it for Christmas. And it was, when I say magical, I am a Christmas-like girl. It was the most beautiful, amazing. It's next level. Well, Jessica and I both are Disney people. One, because my parents worked at Disney right when they
Starting point is 00:11:39 got married. So my dad, my dad opened up Epcot Center. Oh, my God. So that used to be a 25-year-old job. Oh, you're holding out all this. Do you know, I met your dad. when I was in Epcot the first time? No. That's correct. I did not meet him, but I was there. He was a handsome dude. And then my mom worked as a waitress at, I think it was called Tony's back in days.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Right when you walked in the Magic Kingdom, it was, it's now a new restaurant where the dogs are sharing noodles. It's right out in front. Oh, the lady in the tramp. Yeah, I forget the restaurant now. But they worked at Disney for many years after they got married. And so they've told me some stories of, you know, the underground tunnels. and the city. It's magical
Starting point is 00:12:20 and how much work goes into that place. We need to take some time here on this podcast to say thank you to Disney. Thank you. I heart for setting up. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:12:30 One of the most amazing experiences. I'm still wondering why I wasn't invited. This is my party, right? This is an event's party. So I will say this about, so when I used to host those events, I would do this thing for Super Soap weekend
Starting point is 00:12:43 and then for the ESPN sports weekend. And it was one of my favorite jobs I've ever had. But I did get to see the underbelly of Disney World, which is Orlando. Yes. And do you know that in the event of an attack, right? So in the event of some foreign attack, whether it be nuclear or otherwise, that is the place. To be.
Starting point is 00:13:03 They have an in these things go up like in Wall Street, these things go up. Yeah. No vehicles can get in there or out of there without. Wow. Yeah. They have a full food, water, and everything underneath. We're all moving to Orlando. So if we ever.
Starting point is 00:13:18 suffering a nuclear attack and you're in a Disney area go go because trust me you are fine how about the difference between Disneyland and Disney World yeah Disney World is next one's in Anheim and one's in well this is true but I will say this I do think that it is a magical place it is like going to Club 33 is one of the coolest things I've ever got to do in my life that's Club 33 that's where Walt Disney is his apartment that he lived in Orlando I was telling us that. And you go there and they have this exquisite menu. And it's all these accoutrements that we're like...
Starting point is 00:13:54 It's our next trip. And you're worried about not being invited yesterday? Yeah, really. I wasn't invited yesterday. We didn't get club 33. That's our next trip. I'm trying to say is we all have our moments. And what a great one.
Starting point is 00:14:05 But I really enjoyed that. And I do think that it's kind of crazy that Ben, who I think is the nicest bachelor of all time. And that's saying something I think I'm a pretty nice guy. Ben's way nice than me. And his parents were both. Disney people. This makes perfect sense to me. Or Disney in Florida? Can you imagine walking around Disney with Bob yesterday? And he's
Starting point is 00:14:22 like, yeah, back when I went to Club 33 and we're like, can we go? And he's, no. No. No. No. No. I'm excited. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious. Well, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota,
Starting point is 00:14:41 it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast. So we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy?
Starting point is 00:14:56 That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:15:23 My name is Ed. Everyone say, hello, Ed. Hello, Ed. I'm from a very rural background myself. My dad is a farmer, and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different.
Starting point is 00:15:44 On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. Well, 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark
Starting point is 00:16:34 Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Shock incarceration, also known as boot camp. are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Get fired up, y'all. Season two of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway. We just welcomed one of my favorite people and an incomparable soccer icon, Megan Rapino, to the show. And we had a blast. We talked about her recent 40th birthday celebrations, co-hosting a podcast with her fiancé Sue Bird, watching former teammates retire and more. Never a dull moment with Pino.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Take a listen. What do you miss the most about being a pro athlete? The final. The final. And the locker room. I really, really, like, you just, you can't replicate, you can't get back. Showing up to locker room every morning just to shit talk. We've got more incredible guests like the legendary Candace Parker and college superstar AZ Fudd.
Starting point is 00:18:08 I mean, seriously, y'all. The guest list is absolutely stacked for season two. And, you know, we're always going to keep you up. to speed on all the news and happenings around the women's sports world as well. So make sure you listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Have you ever wished for a change but weren't sure how to make it?
Starting point is 00:18:31 Maybe you felt stuck in a job, a place, or even a relationship. I'm Emily Tish Sussman, and on she pivots, I dive into the inspiring pivots of women who have taken big leaps in their lives and careers. I'm Gretchen Whitmer, Jody Sweeten, Monica Patton, Elaine Welteroff. I'm Jessica Voss. And that's when I was like, I got to go. I don't know how, but that kicked off the pivot of how to make the transition.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Learn how to get comfortable pivoting because your life is going to be full of them. Every episode gets real about the why behind these changes and gives you the inspiration and maybe the push to make your next pivot. Listen to these women and more on She Pivots, now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. So, guys, thank you very much. I love you for this. So the next question is this whole thing is about Ben's baby shower.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Yes. So I want to go around the room. I want to ask questions. I have so much advice to give. But I want you guys to give advice because you guys are actually good parents. You know, you know what I'm giving advice. It's like, you know, when you go to Chucky Cheese, watch up for you. 10 coins and time when it's over, it's over.
Starting point is 00:19:44 I want you guys to tell us. So if you have to give some advice to Ben, who we all know is a very sensitive and loving man, his wife is a lovely human being, incredibly beautiful, sweet and kind. And scared to death. And scared to death. Well, we're all scared to death.
Starting point is 00:20:01 I mean, we are... First time. What do we give? Let's start here. Just breathe. There's nothing you can do. Especially when the baby comes, you're like,
Starting point is 00:20:12 take her home. Like, I don't come with instructions. It's a natural, just do. There are no perfect ways. You know what I'm saying? It's going to be scary. You don't how to bat them. They'll show you that in the hospital, but just, just do. You know what's funny about that? When we left the hospital, I do remember, I love that you just said that because I forgot to say that earlier. It's true. I was trying to put the car seat in the car. No one even told me how to do that. And then as I'm putting our baby in the car seat, I'm like, no one's going to, like, no one's going to check us out? There's no one like
Starting point is 00:20:43 that says it's okay to leave. Are you worried about that? Have you thought about that? You know, I have Bob. He's so prepared. Yeah, no. He's so smarted at all. He bought a baby doll on Target and he's been practicing.
Starting point is 00:20:55 He's been practicing taking it in a now. Yeah. Let's give him that. Well, no. And I was telling Nancy this earlier. Nancy and I are from the same place. We mentioned many times. And we have some incredible people in this town.
Starting point is 00:21:06 But some of these people get, you know, have their first babies very young. and I have some great friends who have kids in middle school at this point and they've figured it out and they were young and they were naive and they were trying to figure out what life was like and so there's a little bit of confidence that I've had
Starting point is 00:21:27 thinking about it. It's like if they can do it in the season of life they were in I can do it at 35. You can. That's not a hit on them more than like at 20 if you told me I was having a baby I don't think I would be prepared. I don't think I'd be ready. But at 35, there is some life instincts that have kicked in.
Starting point is 00:21:47 It's natural, yes. That are a little different than when I was at 20 being like, when can I go to the bars next? Okay. So you're not seeing that for a minute. I'm not like necessarily like worried about that right now. All right. I have two things to say.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Yes. One is very practical, which is when you have a child, like don't swing them by the arms because you'll dislocate them and you'll be in the emergency room. Smart booth. Until what age? Because I see parents doing that still to this day. Never, just don't do it.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Don't do it. How do you do it then? The advice is not to do it. You don't. Don't do it. It's when they're toddling. You don't do it as a mid-visive. Yeah, mid-bicep, do not do it.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Okay, but the other thing is really a heartfelt, and I mean this advice. Your children are never going to remember, Ben, the gifts you give them, the toys, the dolls, the, you know what they're going to remember. They're going to remember the example you set for them. For her, she's going to remember how you and your wife treat each other. Those are the lessons that she is going to take with her. So forget all the gifts, forget all that. It's how you as a family grow. That's what's going to matter.
Starting point is 00:22:57 I got to say this right now. You guys are crushing this. You're going to make me cry. No, I know me too. I'm like, I'm sitting here thinking, like, I don't want to ever argue in front of my kids. You know, and it's like, in those moments, it's like, you know, what she just said was so true. Like, they're going to remember that stuff. The experience is my kids, the littlest things, and my kids are grown.
Starting point is 00:23:17 And they'll say, Mom, you know, we remember, it makes me cry. We remember when you and dad, and it's the smallest thing that we did as a family. And I'm like, what about the damn time when I took it to Disney World? They don't remember that. And she'll expect that from her partner the way you treat your mommy. You know, it's how you model. Family and love. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:38 I think I know this might sound sexist and I don't mean it to, but I do feel like women need to see a great example of a man. And who's better than this guy? Honestly, God. I mean, this guy personifies so much of that. And I think he doesn't even want to hear it right now. But it is true. You are such a great guy.
Starting point is 00:24:01 And your daughter will see how you treat your wife and how you treat your family. And that's what she'll come to expect for who. who she's going to be with in her life. Yeah. I'm sorry. No. So my response to that, my response to that would be that all of your stuff is crushing it.
Starting point is 00:24:18 I joke tonight, and you all have been around me enough that you know this. I walk a thin line between being like sobby, 99% of my life. I do. And having a daughter is my worst nightmare, by frankly. And the greatest gift. Um, it's going to break me. Uh, and we're going to pause here in the show. And I'm going to show everybody this video that my wife just sent me that nobody else
Starting point is 00:24:45 could see yet. And I wasn't going to show it because she sent it to me tonight. Um, and Kendall's blowing us up. Um, and it, like, I just wanted you guys to see it because I know you care. And I know you, like us having a child and me having child is not the most important thing in your life, but I know you care. And I want you all to see this. So, here, will you hold this up for them?
Starting point is 00:25:06 Yeah. I'm going to cry. I'm going to cry. Hi, honey. I wish I could be there with you today to celebrate us and our baby girl, but I just hope that you're feeling showered in love because you deserve it. You have made my whole pregnancy so easy. You cook dinner.
Starting point is 00:25:26 You have it ready for me. You've filled my water bottle. You give me arm scratchies. And you tell me that I'm beautiful even on days when I really don't feel. like it and you have made me feel like the most empowered beautiful pregnant person in the whole world just like you do every single day and I know that our daughter is going to feel so so loved by you you're just going to be the very best dad and I'm so glad that you get this time to be celebrated for that because you just deserve all of it and I love you so so much and I am so grateful that
Starting point is 00:26:00 you are my partner, my baby daddy, my husband, all the things. I hope today is so fun. Me and baby girl, love you so much, and you're so, so grateful for you. So enjoy the day. You're all so loved and so appreciated. I want that. Can I just say? That's what your daughter is going to remember.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Do you feel blessed? I feel very blessed. I do. You are. That's so sweet. that is yeah it's it's weird it's weird i don't feel like i uh am walking into becoming a dad i don't feel that yet it's weird until you smell her and see her and older and she's whaling but the cool part is i have the best wife in the world you do like sounds like you're a good partner
Starting point is 00:26:51 though yeah she's great we're going to do this thing but can i just say that's what i'm trying to say to you is all the things that you know you can buy all the toys and she is going to feel the love that you and Jess have. She's going to feel it and she's going to see it and you're going to model that for her. That's a gift that you don't even know you're going to give to her. And when she really wants something and you buy it, she's going to remember that too. A pony. She's going to remember the plaid at Disney. It's an exciting time. You know what? It is. I got to say this. I think it's so sweet that I mean, I waited until I was 48 to have kids.
Starting point is 00:27:34 I shouldn't say, I waited. Yeah, you were a late bloomer. I was 48 when I had kids. And I thought that it gave me this perspective that was so different. But now I'm watching you who you just are just such a sensitive and sweet soul. And it's like so nice to watch someone you love and care about who you've loved and cared about since they started this weird fraternity that we have. And I love seeing it because it's like, man, I just watch you. I'm like, God, he's just wiser than me.
Starting point is 00:28:00 Do you remember the feeling of, oh, my goodness, I'm responsible for this person? I do. You know what I have to protect them. I have to educate them. I have to show them life. Like, it's overwhelming at first. I was so scared that I didn't have the love in me to give. Wait, when you had, so somebody asked me this, when I had my first child, it was all consuming.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Yeah, and the second one. And then the second one, I was so scared that I wouldn't love my. Oh, I love you for saying this. And you know what? I told goodness. God just stretches your heart. Yeah. And you love the second one as much.
Starting point is 00:28:38 And the third one, it stretches more. My wife and I went to counseling. And I said, were that worried? I was so worried. And I go, I just don't, I go, you know, I'm an older guy. And I don't think I have enough loving me. I love my son. So I'm going to cry.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Yeah. But as soon as that one comes out. I don't think I have enough. It's natural. You have a huge heart. And you have so much, dude. It's when two come out at a time, like mine. That's another story.
Starting point is 00:29:05 That's scary. Ben, you're such a loving guy right now. You deserve us. You've got this, Ben. You just deserves us. The big thing, and so I was telling my best buddy yesterday this on my walk. You're right. He called me.
Starting point is 00:29:24 He called me. I was talking to Kathy yesterday. He goes, are you excited? I'm excited. I don't have any like non-excitement feelings. This is a good step. I said, and he goes, what are you worried about? I said, there's one thing I'm worried about.
Starting point is 00:29:42 There's one thing that kind of haunts me. That was my question. And the question, if I'm honest, is I'm 35 years old. This isn't late necessarily for me. This isn't early for me. This just feels like it's the right time for me whatever, to have my first baby. But I've lived 35 years of my life pretty much.
Starting point is 00:30:04 I mean, my wife is very great, and we've made this marriage and this commitment. But I've lived 35 years of my life without any other responsibilities outside of myself. No pets. Ben, can I just say, the minute your daughter is born, you won't be able to imagine it any other way.
Starting point is 00:30:23 That's interesting. that's that's what i'm concerned about is i've developed these habits and these these rhythms and these things and i'm selfish and not necessarily on purpose i've just selfish because i what's the due day february 12th your selfishness will end it's magical it's did see mother's light it all goes away the mother does change her her schedule her beauty but getting ready that's like doesn't happen Childbirth is as magical as Disney world. It is. No, it really is.
Starting point is 00:30:57 I'll never forget. I've never loved Canyon more than that moment of watching her. And I'm in the room and I'm like watching her give birth. And I'm just like, holy. Were you afraid of the labor? Are you nervous about that? Canyon. The worst of both worlds.
Starting point is 00:31:14 She went through several hours of labor and then have a C-section. And I'll never forget it being in that room and just watching her. And I'm like, this is unreal. Isn't it beautiful? Like, I was a part of 34 seconds of this. Ben, are you squeamish? 20 minutes. 20 minutes.
Starting point is 00:31:33 Does that bother you? Come on, 20 minutes. Jessica's asked me to stay up above. Up above. Shoulder. Shoulder up. She's asked me that of me. And she said, if things go wrong, I can go down low.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Okay. Are you going to cut the cord? Are you okay with that? I'm good cutting the cord. Good. I'm in my squeamish I think so yes then stay above yeah I was a shoulder guy
Starting point is 00:31:55 yeah I think that's my role she might not be nice like sometimes leave or so just get on no she's no well she's Italian she's can get that she's good at it pain is pain
Starting point is 00:32:07 yeah epidural yeah she they don't always get him right away full on epidural like let's good she's not doing like my one of my best friends in the world's daughters is having a baby she's doing a water berth. Jessica says, nope, still not interested.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Yep, epidural. Smart girl. I signed up for the epidural. And you'll be so happy. Yeah. And so will she. Yeah. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious.
Starting point is 00:32:37 Well, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast. So we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young. professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now hold up, isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former
Starting point is 00:33:01 professor and they're the same age. My name is Ed. Everyone say, hello, Ed. From a very rural background myself, my dad is a farmer and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not, like, what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that
Starting point is 00:33:39 really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. On 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison
Starting point is 00:34:29 or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Shock incarceration, also known as. boot camps are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was
Starting point is 00:35:09 so overwhelming and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the I Heart Radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Get fired up, y'all. Season two of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway. Starting point is 00:35:47 What do you miss the most about being a pro athlete? The final. The final. And the locker room. I really, really, like, you just, you can't replicate. You can't get back. Showing up to locker room every morning just to shit talk. We've got more incredible guests like the legendary Candace Parker and college superstar AZ Fudd.
Starting point is 00:36:08 I mean, seriously, y'all. The guest list is absolutely stacked for season two. Starting point is 00:37:14 Okay, any last words here to share that you're just, like, holding on to before we go? We'll start with Nancy. I would say, savor it, be there with her, savor the moment. You don't have to fear anything. This is the way it's supposed to be. And be in the moment with her. and I ditto what Kathy said
Starting point is 00:37:46 when and Susan too when they're born all of that worry whatever you were worried about goes away and then you have your family it's like you feel remember it feeling so
Starting point is 00:38:00 safe riding home from the hospital with my husband and our first baby and you're a little unit And your whole world changes. Like what do we do now? Changes, but you won't have the worry and the fear you have right now.
Starting point is 00:38:18 That's right. I really believe that. My second thing is sleep when the baby sleeps. When you're at home. Don't worry about cleaning, laundry. No laundry. It doesn't matter if the house is a mess. Sleep when the baby sleeps and take when your parents come or when Jessica's parents come, sleep.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Yeah. And let them help. because you need it. And I would just say you are embarking on the most beautiful gift that life ever brings you and just enjoy every minute.
Starting point is 00:38:52 And why do you think people do it again and again? I don't know. Nobody learns the first time. They can't find the condoms. That's why. And Ben, most importantly, just pray to God. That's all that the baby's healthy.
Starting point is 00:39:05 But here's a really important thing. Did you get a push present? Oh, good. You need a push present. Push presents. Ben? You don't have much gone. When do I give it?
Starting point is 00:39:16 Pony. After the baby. When she has the baby? After she delivers. Like as soon as like she, the baby's out, I can ever. Bring it to her when she's in the hospital. Oh, okay. After they clean her up.
Starting point is 00:39:27 Give her a minute. Yeah. Give her a minute. The first time they bring the baby back all clean. And you know what? It cannot be a ticket to the Dodgers game. No. Diamond earrings usually are good.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Jewel. I have some in mind. I just didn't know when to get it. Everybody says push present, but I'm like, I don't understand. After she pushes, it's not that difficult.
Starting point is 00:39:46 It's after she pushes, not before. After she gives birth. Are you serious? Are you serious? Bob, you didn't do this. Oh, I sure did. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Buddy, why do you think I'm so married? I got my son-in-law didn't have anything. I was like, oh, man. Second chance of push cakes because they gave the first push present. Let me just tell you. It's meaningful.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Like, I still have that piece of jewelry. And I'm like, it's my, it's a, coveted gift. Can I make a suggestion? Yeah. February. Amethyst. Do something Amethyst. Unless she doesn't like that stone, of course. Diamonds.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Sorry. Amethysts are the birds. You can't ever go around with diamond, bro. That's what I didn't do. But amethysts are. Do something for his daughter? Wait. Wait. Do something with amethysts. Amethysts circled in diamonds. Can't go wrong. Diamonds. We'll help you. Yeah. He just bought land.
Starting point is 00:40:40 A diamond necklace, a little solid. It doesn't have to be crazy. You know what? Put on a pound of coffee from generous coffee and called in a minute. Yeah, what did you think about a bag of coffee? The baseball hat. Almost fit in. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:52 You know what ladies, I'll say this. Thank you so much for your insight. It's very, honestly, God. I love this. I cried. First podcast I've ever cried in. I know. So there is me.
Starting point is 00:41:01 We love you guys. We love you guys. We love you guys are our favorite. We love both of you. It's my favorite. This guy. Honestly God. Who's going to be a better dad?
Starting point is 00:41:09 He's going to be a great daddy. He's going to be the best dad ever. No pressure, Ben. No pressure. But he's just such a heartfelt, sincere person. They're going to be times. You'll be challenged. You will be challenged and you will get frustrated.
Starting point is 00:41:23 And you'll screw up and it's okay. It's okay. When they're screaming and crying when they're a little bit closer to one years old and you're trying to train them to go by themselves. It's never the dad's fault. The saying is if it's not one thing, it's your mother. I'm just kidding Not
Starting point is 00:41:40 Not And Ben I will come in babysit Because I love babies We need to set a timer The three of us will come in babysit You guys can have them A night away How about that?
Starting point is 00:41:54 I was going to say The three stooges The three stooges You'd trust your little angel with us Easily We can do it Oh you know Have you kidding
Starting point is 00:42:05 You got a gig I'll hook it up No problem. But I also think when they're babies. How about the vodka? If you have friends, if you're like her family, your family who come in. Take her out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Still have a date night. Yeah. Like if you have the pleasure of having family, let them babysit. Take her out. The three. The three stooges. The three golden stoogens. I have zero doubt, Bob, that if these three came into my house to watch our baby,
Starting point is 00:42:42 that that baby would not be more taken care of than I could ever do with my wife. We'd be fighting ever. It's my turn the whole, but I'm changing her. Yeah. Susan, Susan, you didn't put enough diaper. It would be like 16 conversations. It would be an insane and that, and I can't wait to do that sometime when the baby's like six. And then we come home and she's like, this is what they said tonight.
Starting point is 00:43:03 We're taking her to Disney. Wait. No more, ladies. We're taking her to Disney with a plaid when she's six. Don't think about that. Don't repeat what they said. Annie Susan, Annie Kathy and Anni Nancy said they'd take us to see the plaids.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Don't say what Andy Susan says. Mimi Susan. It's Mimi Susan. And he's paying for the plaid. And on Kiki. Mimi Susan said the S word. No, she didn't. Nope.
Starting point is 00:43:29 You miss her dad. You know what Kiki's going to say? Yes, she did. Now we want you to open. present. Okay, we're going to go outside. We're going to open some presents.
