This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcasts with IHartRadio.
Hey, everybody's Bob Guinea here.
Welcome to the Almost Famous podcast.
My lovely counterpart, Trista Sutter, nay, Wren, was unavailable today.
So I'm jumping on for a little bit of breaking news.
Some sad stuff, actually, in Bachelor Nation today.
Word just came out that Grant and Juliana have broken up.
Bummer, obviously, after three months.
But, you know, I will say, from experience, it can be kind of tough,
especially when you're all over the place, which, I mean, I really didn't follow the two of them so much right after the show had aired.
But for whatever reason, I recently noticed Grant was, like, in Shanghai.
And then another day he's in, you know, here and there.
And he's kind of all over the map, and a lot of it was by himself.
And let's be honest, it's tough in a conventional, normal relationship when the two people
never see each other, right?
It's difficult when that happens.
And I think that that might be what's at play here.
So at any rate, statements just came out.
I'll read them for you.
Grant's statement.
This is one of the hardest things I've ever had to write, but I want to share it.
honestly, Julianne and I decided to end our relationship.
We both gave this our best and poured a lot of love into each other.
But after a lot of deep conversations, we've come to the understanding
that we're simply not the right fit long term.
What we have is meaningful.
The connection we built on the show was real,
and so was the effort that we've made to continue once the camera stopped rolling.
There's no negativity here, no resentment,
just two people who care about each other
and want the best for one another moving forward.
I'll always be grateful for what we shared and for the growth that came with it.
Thank you to everyone who supported us
and believed in our journey.
chapter is closing, but we're both walking away with love and respect in our hearts.
So that was Grant's statement regarding their breakup.
So, you know, here's the thing.
Relationships are interesting, obviously.
Relationships on The Bachelor are an enigma wrapped in a riddle, shrouded in mystery.
I mean, it's, you know, you never know which one of these things are going to work out and which
one aren't.
You know, a lot of people felt like at the end of this show that Grant made the
wrong choice for him and his future. I didn't actually. I thought this was actually an interesting
choice, but I thought it could have been just the right mix to make it work. But you know,
what do I know, guys? You know, I don't know anything. But I feel like, you know, what are you
saying here is that, you know, they've decided to end their relationship. Now, it is kind of
interesting because it's on the heels of a recent interview where they were talking about moving in
together. And so you got it begs a question, did something recently happen that sort of triggered
this or was the idea of actually moving in together kind of did that create some cold feet
and maybe make people start looking in the mirror a little bit more and wondering where things
were going? Who knows? You know, no one ever knows what goes on behind closed doors with any
couple, whether they're from a television show or whether they're from a Tinder or whether
they're from a local bar, right? It's all the same kind of thing. Emotions are involved, hearts are
involved. I do love that the no negativity and no resentment part is in there because I think
that that's a good thing and time will tell, you know, if that's true, which I think is something
that we'll find probably is. Because these two did seem to have, I thought, kind of a nice
relationship. But Julianna also put out a statement, and it's interesting that it wasn't a joint
statement because a lot of times in these breakups, you know, when they're really seemingly,
you know, kind of a mutual thing, they can often be a joint statement, but this one was not.
It says, it's a gift to find someone who sees the world in a way that resonates with you,
and while also encouraging you to grow.
I've been grateful to share that experience with Grant.
That's a very nice opening.
Marriage is a commitment.
It's one we both still believe in deeply.
After a lot of honest conversations and reflection, we've come to the decision that this chapter of our lives is meant to continue on separate paths.
We shared something meaningful, navigating a unique journey side by side, learning, growing,
and showing up for each other the best we knew how.
And while this isn't the ending we once.
imagined it's one filled with mutual respect care and hope for what's ahead we're still
cheering each other on just from different places now I'm beyond thankful for all the
love and support you all have given us please be kind that's a really nice she she
that was really nice I like Juliana's statement very much here again you know I
think we're seeing two people who you know you never know who initiated the breakup
you never know where it started where it ended Lord knows I've been through a few
myself and you know sometimes it really is what it seems that two people just haven't you know
two people just realize that they're not right to go on that next step in their journey together
marriage is a big one man and i'm glad they made this decision before they before they jumped
into something and then you know uh god forbid brought kids into the world and everything else and then
realize they were on the wrong path so hey you know you got you got to find a positive on
things and i think um you know from a glass half full perspective which i like to look at life as
much as I can, good for them, right? I mean, at the end of the day, they had this magical moment
on this really cool show that got them to do some really cool stuff. And, you know, and I think
one of the hardest things about the show today, which wasn't around, obviously, when I was
filming either Trista's season of The Bachelorette or my own season of The Bachelor was everyone's
opinions now resonate, right? So you've got social media that literally, more people watch
a show on social media now than watching on actual television and more people chime in from
that perspective as well and everybody's got an opinion and it's usually jaded. It's usually
coming from somewhere that, you know, has a tinge of something that's like, you know, a little dagger.
People like to take their shots and that can take a toll on a person and I'm sure on a relationship
too. So who knows, who knows what was going on here. But I will say I like that both of them made
statements that were very respectful and kind to one another.
I think that's a big, big, big thing.
It shows their maturity as individuals, too.
So let's dig in a little deeper here.
You know, in Grant's statement, he chose a photo to post where they're both, it's from People
Magazine.
It's a photo shoot of their engagement.
They're looking super happy.
They're both looking right at the camera.
Juliana's got her hand in the air, showing that rock of an engagement, Neil Lane,
engagement ring that will be returned to producers, I'm sure, very soon.
um juliana on the other hand shows a picture where she looks very elegant and uh the back of grant's head looks nice so
not sure what that means right uh not sure if uh maybe she just couldn't you know stand the idea of putting his face on a on a picture with her at that moment because i'm sure you know here's the thing here's the thing i do know about breakups um of which i've been through many um you know even when you want them you're still sad right so even when you know it's the right thing to do
whether it's a dating relationship breaking up or a marital relationship splitting up or whatever it might be,
it still sucks. There's no two ways around it. So I think from that perspective, you know,
maybe we're seeing a little bit of that from her as well, right? So would you, would anyone else
up there think that maybe this seems like Grant initiated this? Because I would think from the
pictures that maybe that's what that means. Now, I am not a photo analysis person for Us Weekly or People
magazine. But I am a photo taker on my cell phone, and I can tell you, from my expert opinion
and my expert analysis, that's what I'm doing. That's where I'm coming from. I think that's
what happened here. And it is hard, I will say this, it is hard to kind of remove yourself. I've
noticed that over the years of watching this show, because I was so, so long ago that I've forgotten
what it was like for myself. But having, you know, watched the season year over year, it seems
it's harder for the people who are the um the leads of the show who are kind of put out there on
the promotional schedules um to maybe you know realize that uh you know in order to make this work
the relationship work you got to kind of take yourself out of that channel right i mean it's
it's long been the why the bacheloretts are more successful than the bachelors right the
bachelor couples are more successful than the bachelor couples and maybe that's why the bachelor in paradise
couples are successful too because they're not as in demand I guess maybe from that perspective
after their seasons are over but the bachelorette couples um trista's a primary example my co-host
trista you know she she took herself off the whole thing right and she focused on her and ryan and
she and ryan were like focused on each other and um and they took that time that they needed i think
to kind of solidify or cement that relationship because let's be honest guys i mean these shows are
fast, right? You meet 30 people on night one. I mean, back when we did it on the OGs, four weeks
later, you're supposed to be dropping to a knee and pop into box, right? I think that, you know,
from that perspective, now it's a longer season. I think now it's like seven or eight weeks
that they actually film because they travel so much more. But I feel like now it's got to be,
or then I feel like it was even more difficult, which is why the season takes a little bit
longer now. But now it's more difficult, I think, because, you know, you got a lot of people
out there that are kind of working the circuit, you know, popping up their hair gummies and the
tooth whitening kits. And then at the end of the day, they're also, you know, trying to
solidify a relationship.
My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious.
Well, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit.
Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast. So we'll find out soon.
This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot.
He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her.
Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone.
Now, hold up.
Isn't that against school policy?
That sounds totally inappropriate.
Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age.
It's even more likely that they're cheating.
He insists there's nothing between them.
I mean, do you believe him?
Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet.
So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend,
really cheated with his professor or not.
To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison
or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth?
Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced.
He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you.
Shock incarceration, also known as boot camp.
are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training.
These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline,
physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs.
Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months.
The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you.
And we didn't know what to expect in the morning.
nobody tells you anything listen to shock incarceration on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever

Hey, sis, what if I could promise you you never had to listen to a condescending finance, bro,
tell you how to manage your money again.
Welcome to Brown Ambition.
This is the hard part when you pay down those credit cards.
If you haven't gotten to the bottom of why you were racking up credit or turning to credit
cards, you may just recreate the same problem a year from now.
When you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates, I would start shopping
for a debt consolidation loan, starting.
with your local credit union, shopping around online, looking for some online lenders because
they tend to have fewer fees and be more affordable. Listen, I am not here to judge. It is so expensive
in these streets. I 100% can see how in just a few months you can have this much credit card debt
when it weighs on you. It's really easy to just like stick your head in the sand. It's
nice and dark in the sand. Even if it's scary, it's not going to go away just because you're
avoiding it. And in fact, it may get even worse. For more judgment-free money advice, listen to Brown
ambition on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
My name is Ed. Everyone say, hello, Ed.
From a very rural background myself, my dad is a farmer, and my mom is a cousin.
So, like, it's not like...
What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago.
I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different.
On stage stood a comedian with a story.
that no one expected to hear.
On 22nd of July 2015,
a 23-year-old man
had killed his family.
And then he came to my house.
So what do you get
when a true crime producer
walks into a comedy club?
A new podcast called Wisecrack,
where stand-up comedy and murder
takes center stage.
Available now.

My lovely co-host, Trista Sutter, Ney Wren, told us that she is sad by this breaking news.
And, you know, I am too.
I mean, I don't know these people.
I don't know them at all.
But I do feel a weird kind of connection to them, having been on The Bachelor at first and
then The Bachelor.
And it is kind of weird that we all feel like we have a strange connection with each other and we all meet.
You know, when we ever, we do meet up, it's almost like we know each other.
But I'm sad by this too because I know that no relationship, especially one that's public,
do you want to feel like you got off the train early, right?
I mean, you never want to feel like you're that person who went through all this stuff and then at the end failed.
And that is how it feels.
I will say that.
I'm sure that both of them are experiencing.
little bit of embarrassment, which I know probably isn't a popular thing to say, but I know having
been divorced, my ex-wife was an actress, and when we got divorced and it was all over people and
magazine at the time, there were actually magazines, and us weekly and all that kind of stuff,
I was as, I was as embarrassed as I was hurt, right? Because I didn't want to fail. I wanted to
succeed. I wanted everyone to think that we were the ones and we got it right, you know, and
because that's what I thought when we got married. And, you know, so I think that there's a part
of that that probably is, you know, is a part of these statements, too, is they're protecting
each other. They're protecting themselves. They realize there's going to be backlash. They
realize that people that were, you know, is it real? Is it fake? You know, now they're going to
be like, I told you it was fake. And it's like, no, it wasn't fake. We were really feeling each
other, you know, for three months. And three months, I mean, hey man, you know, in Hollywood
standards, that's a, that's, you know, 10 year anniversary. I'm kidding. I don't mean to laugh,
But, you know, anyway, let's look at this.
So not too long previous, Grant had said that he and Juliana were taking their engagement day by day.
Now, that I will tell you is a telltale, right?
So one thing I've learned from watching these shows over the years and seeing, you know, a few months later as people come through,
if they still haven't set a date, or maybe they still haven't, you know, arrived at something.
I mean, three months, I think that's probably a little premature.
You know, I think everybody's taking it day by day at that point.
They hadn't even moved in together, right?
So I think from that perspective, maybe that's not as much of a telltale as it would have been six months down the road, right?
Six months, nine months a year.
We still don't have a date.
We're taking it day by day.
That's huge red flag.
A couple, however, that I think was awesome and kind of dispelled this whole thing was Jojo and her guy, the guy she married.
Jordan, thank you.
A couple that I think kind of dispel that, that myth was Jojo and Jordan, right?
A lot of things came up.
COVID came up while they were in the midst of their planning of their wedding.
And so they postponed it.
And everyone's like, oh, oh, here we go.
Here's another one, right?
Super long engagement.
And now they're happily married and seemingly super happy.
And, you know, guys, that's another thing, too.
A lot of this stuff with social media, you forget.
We only see the highlights, right?
I mean, the people that are actually throwing the bad stuff up there,
well, we don't really follow them that long either, right?
We kind of are like, man, I'm not going on on Instagram to get sad today,
although I do love a lot of those posts about dogs and stuff.
But dogs and kids always get me.
But when it comes to, like, you know,
the people that are part of the show or part of the, you know,
the zeitgeist of what the bachelor has created,
I mean, it's the highlights.
We aren't seeing what's going on day to day.
So it doesn't mean they're misleading us.
It just means that they're posting the,
good days, right? And they're not necessarily posting the days that aren't so great. So, but
anyway, Grant had mentioned a few weeks before the split that they were taking their relationship
day by day, and that they, you know, they have a lot of love and support between their family
and friends. And he was supposed to be moving to Boston, and they were going to move in with each
other. Boston's a great city. I love it. But, you know what? They did not, they did not last,
guys, and that is the news of today. Those are the hot topics of today. Now, there are some
others, and we have a couple of others where engagements were called off, and let's get
into them a little bit. I'm going to go with the ones I know first, and then I'm going to go
with some others. So, Katie and Blake, Bachelorette season 17. It was a he said, she said,
for sure. Two months after the bachelor, except the proposal from the Canadian Wildlife Manager
on air. They posted matching messages to Instagram.
and they go in their separate ways.
And, you know, there was something there.
Obviously, they felt enough to get together,
but then, you know, it didn't work out.
Tasia Adams and Zach Clark.
I've met Tasia, very lovely,
The Bachelor at Season 16.
They were together a year, right?
So that was pretty good.
But, you know, it kind of ended,
and all she had to say was that she was heartbroken.
She moved cross-country to join Zach in New York.
We tried really hard.
I still love him very much.
I'm just not sure what the future holds.
And, you know, that's tough.
He said two good people don't always make a good relationship,
and that's my experience.
So a little more of a more concise message, I guess.
Okay, Nate and Michelle, you know,
they were getting at the lesson here.
She had said, I'm struggling to say that Nate and I
will be going our separate ways.
He chimed in, and he had said, you know,
we were looking for our soulmates,
our forever, our best friends.
However, we grow and learn,
and we realize that sometimes somebody
that you hold dear to your heart
isn't somebody that you meant to spend
the rest of your life with.
Well, that's a pretty eloquent statement, actually.
Months later, on the vile files,
they said they'd come close to breaking up many times before,
and it was tough, and they were having a rough time.
I get it.
I mean, relationships are hard, guys.
That's why not everybody does it, right?
However, breaking news on this breaking news,
Michelle just got married to her husband, Jack,
on June 7th, so congrats to her.
The pictures were just released yesterday.
A very exciting news that Michelle's happy.
Met her before in Tahoe, I think, or it was in Northern California, and she was lovely.
Susie Evans and Clayton Eckerd.
Now, I have met Clayton.
I have not met Susie.
Although I've seen Susie in the news quite a bit.
Now, he said, she said, here we go.
She said, we understand that there would likely be a lot of questions about this decision.
Social media is definitely a highlight.
And much of our experiences together, we have kept private.
I'm sure most can understand.
Oh, that was actually a joint statement, so that's good.
But we will share this, all this last year together has brought us joy and laughs.
There's also been a lot of pain.
Damn, that didn't end the way I thought it was.
I should have read ahead, guys.
Sorry about that.
Rachel and Tino Franco, Bachelor at Season 19, a few months.
You know, this was the one where Rachel told host Jesse Palmer.
Tino kissed another woman.
It's just heartbreaking.
This is the person I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with
and start a family with.
That's always rough when it works out that way.
You know, it's tough.
Gabby and Eric from the Bachelor of Season 19.
She was the dancing with a star as contestant.
She didn't quick step around the issue.
I love that.
She said, I went through a breakup,
and it's been tough.
The end of our relationship happened
because we weren't completely in step
and in sync with each other
on our common goals of how we approach life.
Now, you know, I'll say this to you.
Obviously, there's a lot more breakups than successes in the world of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, right?
Hence, the way that we go about this show, like, when the ones do work out, we're stoked.
I mean, it's exciting.
We're all super fired up.
But, you know, the relationships actually are probably longer than what we realize.
And I'll say it for this.
Back in the day on my season, you know, I didn't propose, but Estella Gardnier, who's a lovely person and still a friend of mine to this day,
I gave her a promise ring.
We started dating our show, the finale taped in July.
And we broke up in December, which is what, that's four months, right?
Four and a half month.
But to the viewing public, they thought it was three weeks
because our finale happened to air Thanksgiving weekend,
or Thanksgiving week, and then we broke up mid-December.
So, you know, I think a lot of times, you know,
there might be more to the story than we know,
and there's definitely more time invested than we know
because we don't know when the shows discontinued taping
or when they wrap taping.
So, guys, in summation, it's a sad day in Bachelor nation, right?
We're dealing with a breakup today.
But we wish them both the very best moving forward.
They both seem like really nice people.
Again, I don't know them personally,
but somehow I feel like I am connected to them in some way, shape, or form.
So I wish them both the very best.
I wish everybody the best,
on the show and moved on that we talked about today.
Like I said, breakups are never easy, right?
So we want to wish everyone the best.
We especially want to be kind in these moments
and let them know that, you know,
the support they felt this whole time doesn't just go away
now that they're no longer betrothed to one another.
So production team wins again, though.
Here they get another Neil Lane back in that file cabinet.
I'm telling you.
I'm beginning to wonder what they're going to do with all those
at the end of this whole thing.
At any rate, thank you so much for watching

To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, an IHeart women's sports production
in partnership with Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

From Mary, Mary to Jennifer Hudson,
we get into the soul of the music
and the purpose that drives it.

New episodes of bananas drop every Tuesday in the exactly right network.
