Hey guys, we just wanted to give you a little disclaimer
Starting point is 00:02:13 before we dive into this topic that it does pertain to domestic violence and abuse. This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcast with IHart Radio. Hey, everybody, it's the Almost Famous Podcast. And today we are here to break down some news on the Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen hearing that happened today. But before we get started, I do want to share some good news, some uplifting news, some news that I think listeners will hear and be like, you know what, that Ashley and Jared are really cool people. Is this from you talking to my sister?
Starting point is 00:02:50 No. Am I supposed to have better news from talking to your sister? Oh, no, no. We just talk trash about you. I just love that you guys are chatting about me for an hour. each week. It's so weird. It's really not about me mostly. It's mostly about the people that I hang out with here in Rhode Island.
Starting point is 00:03:04 It's all very negative. Hey, I just got a message based on Ashley's stardom on the real housewives of Rhode Island from a lady I won't say her name because she didn't tell me I could. She said, I placed an order, and it was a great order of coffee thanks to Jared and Ashley's Audrey's coffee shop.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Much love from another Bachelor Nation member. So Ashley, not only do I hope Audrey's continues to thrive based on this, generous is also benefiting from your time. And so if nothing else happens from you being on the Real Housewives of Rhode Island, know that I am thankful and appreciative and that lives are being bettered because of your appearance on TV. That was the perfect timing
Starting point is 00:04:04 because I just watched episode three before getting on here with you. And I'm not, I don't like myself in it. Normally I watch it, I'm like, I watch myself on whatever. And I'm like, oh, yes, that's me, that's me. I just felt like I didn't like me in this episode. And I felt like I got on here
Starting point is 00:04:22 a little bit off and distracted. because, you know, when you watch yourself on TV and then you don't, like, think that you just don't feel it. Yeah. It can whack you out for a little bit. I'm very grateful that because you and I have been through this, a number of times, that, like, I really let it go, especially after the episode's got, like, gone and aired.
Starting point is 00:04:42 If it's been on for, like, 24 hours, I'm like, all right, passed, you know? Yeah. And I think that a lot of my friends will be, you know, it's going to take a little bit for them to get there. But, like, I'm just, like my episode and it's okay we'll get past it but good things are happening Ash we'll talk about it maybe a little bit
Starting point is 00:05:00 it's all good because generous coffee I mean that's what's really important is that you're providing better lives for those who work at the generous company in these countries I just got a letter Ashley from an organization called Furnishing Hope and a young lady is getting furniture
Starting point is 00:05:20 from a donation generous was able to be made at her home, who, you know, somebody that was without a home and having a rough go at it, and she's able to get some furnishings for her home. Oh, that's amazing. Yeah, good things are happening. It all works out in the end, Ashley.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Just keep trucking. Hey, there are some things in life that are harder to forget and move on from. And today we're here to talk about one of those things. Obviously, we spent months every Friday talking about Taylor Frankie Paul and her lead up to being the Bachelorette. We did that, Ashley, because we knew there was a lot of commentary on her being the
Starting point is 00:06:02 Bachelorette, right? Is she ready? Is this a good thing? What do we know about Taylor Frankie Paul outside of the headlines and the history? And we, I thought, did, and thanks to the producers, a really good job at kind of getting to know where Taylor was at in her life leading. up to the Bachelorette. And I made the statement and I still stand by it. Weeks leading up to the Bachelorette. I said, I'm ready to have her be our Bacheloret.
Starting point is 00:06:31 I'm ready to watch this. I want her to find love. I don't think it's going to be clean cut. I think it's going to be chaotic. But I was excited for the season ahead of us. And then obviously the news broke that there was another incident that happened recently. you've all been able to go back and listen to those episodes as we kind of led up to then the postponement, I'll call it, the pause of this Bachelorette season.
Starting point is 00:07:00 There was a video released from 2023 that's not good. I don't know one person even if they're like really much team TFP who said that is a good video. No, everyone was like, that's a bad video but they, most of Taylor
Starting point is 00:07:17 Frankie Paul fans were saying not a good video, but there was another person involved in this, and they're the ones trying to make themselves look like the hero. And that was Dakota. Now, the Dakota fans are saying, Taylor should not be involved in anything publicly. And they're supporting him as he filed a protective order, temporary protective order,
Starting point is 00:07:40 against Taylor Frankie Paul. He wanted custody of the kid. And that's kind of, that all happened, like 25. hours after the postponement of the Bachelorette. Yeah. Which leads us up to today. Today. That order was granted. He's had custody of the child.
Starting point is 00:08:01 We haven't heard much about it from either side. But today, they had their court hearing and we committed to covering it. Not being legal experts here. So there's a lot of things that we're just going to read. I think that I was just going to. to say it. I was going to be like, apology for the reading, but like, there's not much of a way out of that. Celebrate your pride with the station that's as bold, vibrant, and diverse as you are.

Starting point is 00:09:12 As the League One volleyball season heads towards its final stretch, there's no better time to tune in. We really are like yin and yang, vodka and tequila. You'll hear unfiltered analysis, behind the scenes stories and conversations with leaders making an impact across the sport. Today we have Logan,
Starting point is 00:09:26 Niki. I feel like our fan base in general is very connected. Just like a comforting feeling getting to play at home. Whether you're following the final push of love season or just love the game, serving pancakes brings you closer to the action and the people shaping the future of volleyball. Jordan, Thompson

Starting point is 00:09:58 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women's Sports. I'm Anna Navarro, and on my new podcast, Bleep with Anna Navarro, I'm talking to the people closest to the biggest issues happening in your community and around the world. Because I know deep down inside right now, we are all cursing and asking what the bleep is going on. I'm talking to people like Julie K. Brown, who broke the explosive story on Jeffrey Epstein in 2018. These victims have been let down time and time again for decades and decades by local law enforcement, by federal law enforcement, by administration after administration. The Justice Department through, I think we counted four presidential administrations, failed these victims. Listen to Bleep with Anna Navarro as part of the My Cultura podcast network, available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:11:01 Hey, earners, what's up? Look, money is something we all deal with, but financial literacy is what helps turn income into real wealth. On each episode of the podcast, Earn Your Leisure, we break down the conversations you need to understand money, investing, and entrepreneurship. From stocks and real estate to credit, business, and generational wealth, we translate complex financial topics into real conversations
Starting point is 00:11:22 everyone can understand. Because the truth is, most people will never taught how money really works. But once you understand the system, you can start to build within it. That means ownership, smarter investing, and creating opportunities not just for yourself, but for the next generation. If you want to learn how to build wealth, understand the markets, and think like an owner. Earn Your Leisure is the podcast for you. Listen to Earn Your Leisure on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:11:58 So let's kick it off with this headline to give people some clearance and some guidance. Taylor Frankie Paul files a temporary protective order against ex-Dakota Mortensen. So yes, multiple things happened today. They were supposed to meet in court for the first time. But an hour before, they're meeting, she filed a temporary protective order against Dakota, revealing new details in this filing about the alleged February domestic violence incident. again, this was just before a court hearing. So what happens is there's a lot of back and forth between a lot of comments from Taylor's lawyer.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Just to be clear, they were supposed to meet virtually today. Okay, thank you, Ben. So in this filing today from her lawyer, let's just call it, his name is Eric, Eric Swinyard. So Eric, he said that there's a pattern of abusive conduct and coercive control coming from him. And then he detailed four alleged incidents during their relationship. He said that at Taylor's, at today's hearing, no charges are expected to be filed against either Taylor or Dakota. In relation to the February incident, Dakota, this is a quote, is excellent at escalating and aggravating Taylor. When she reacts, it's 100% at Dakota. Dakota pushes buttons. He's
Starting point is 00:13:31 excellent at that and as long as these people stay apart, there's no risk to the child. During one alleged incident that happened during the early hours of February 23rd, Eric lawyer, said that his client and Dakota got into an argument while in his truck while the other three kids were sleeping inside the house. The lawyer said that Dakota allegedly drove away with Taylor against her wishes before the two of them got into an altercation that included Dakota grabbing her head and slamming it into the dashboard and then hitting her knee and elbow with his fist. So now of course we're getting these are details that we've never heard of about the alleged February 23rd incident.
Starting point is 00:14:19 He, the lawyer says, and this was not documented in the police report, that these details match what Taylor filed in this protective order and he said that in court Taylor's legal team has provided the court with photos of the alleged injuries and text messages that followed the incident. He also notes that Taylor lashed out during the altercation, throwing a drink at Dakota
Starting point is 00:14:49 and that she did assault him. But the lawyer notes that it was Taylor who demanded separation and demanded that he leave. Her anger is very, this is a quote, is very clearly, unambiguously directed at Dakota. It has nothing to do with their children. Her children.
Starting point is 00:15:11 The Tuesday protective order filed by Taylor, the one today, notes that in February, this is very interesting. I need to know your interpretation of this. Dakota tattooed his initials of Taylor inside of his lip and sent her a picture. Because their relationship had concluded the photos of this tattoo are very traumatic. This is like, sounds like something out of fear, right?
Starting point is 00:15:35 The movie Fear with Mark Wahlberg. I don't know if I've seen that movie. So I don't know the reference. Oh, my God, you must. It just seems like he tattooed her initials on his, on his lip. People do this when they like kind of want to hide it and it also disappears after like a certain number of years. The tattoo doesn't stay. But it kind of is like, you're on me, like a tattoo.
Starting point is 00:15:56 like a sort of like an imprinting situation. If I'm to hear this, it feels manipulative. Yeah. You know, am I wrong? Do you agree with that? Yeah. Hey, the relationship's over. Claiming territory.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Yeah. Yeah. Honestly, I don't know. You say claiming territory. I guess I am a little bit naive to most like to this because if I had that happen to me, it would be more of like a, that's weird. We broke up. kind of thing, but I
Starting point is 00:16:27 Well, I'm probably looking a little bit deeper into it because it says from the lawyer that this was very traumatic to her. Yeah. I mean, it makes sense. To me, that just feels weird. It's like if they're over, uh, broken up and that's a response. It feels controlling. Yeah, it does feel a little controlling like, yeah, I'm trying to keep you back engaged.
Starting point is 00:16:56 you're trying to get you to send that one more text. I mean, I don't know. I can't relate. Like, I don't have any, like, background experience in this. I'm not an expert in any of this. It seems very unhealthy, I guess. It would be, like, my very uneducated, like, layman's opinion would be, that feels weird.
Starting point is 00:17:19 And then that's not the vocabulary I could put around it if, for me. So what, what, what, what, is, well, was established today was that she gets eight hours with their son from now until April 30th. So it's not very long. So it's like three weeks. This will be in place. And she can do it in like chunks of two or three hours multiple times a week until it adds up to eight. And she hasn't seen ever their shared child since March 20th.
Starting point is 00:17:53 So it's been a couple weeks of her not being able to see him at all. It's that supervised time, too, where somebody sits there. Yeah. So it's saying, in the end, Commissioner Russell ordered that the supervised parental visits for Taylor before they meet again in court, April 30th is, yeah, so that, la, la, la, la, legal speak. But, yeah, it needs to be supervised for rental visits. And then there's also note that like the two of them, when they're just not around each other, it's like everything's fine. So that's kind of one of the reasons that she filed the order of protection against him today. Because I guess like it's just double duty.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Like we will not be in the same place together because when we're anywhere close to each other, it's absolutely. tragic. Okay. All this is, is, there's a lot of obviously big things to come out of this. He, Taylor Frankie Paul is accusing the code of Mortensen of slamming her head into the dashboard of his truck. And that's, that's a big deal. Um, and one that obviously in the midst of all of this could be almost overlooked, but
Starting point is 00:19:10 it's, it's, it's a major, um, detail of evidence that makes. a lot of things now from this, you know, February encounter that recently happened. I'm going to have to read this to really paint the picture. I want Dakota and Taylor Frankie Paul to figure this out. If they need court assistance, they need court assistance, right? I'm not going to throw stones. I don't know their relationship. I don't know any of them personally.
Starting point is 00:19:43 I'm literally reading and understanding as we go here. Obviously, this is an unhealthy relationship. And I think Taylor has said multiple times that this is a toxic relationship that she wants to separate herself from. The reason that it's hard to separate from is, I think the point here that we and fans need to focus on is there is a child involved that is getting now in the midst of this. This child is going to be able to see their mother eight hours in the next 23 days supervales. and now both the dad and the mom are battling at court. I know friends who have gone through divorces, you know, who have families have gotten ugly divorces.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Those are brutal enough on a child. Like brutal. Last a long time. Let alone then the couple, you know, having this thing happen kind of even on top of it where they can't even be around each other. And there's court filings and there's communication being told to the child of, hey, today you can see your mom for two hours, but next month you're going to be able to see her for who knows how many.
Starting point is 00:20:54 And hey, now you don't get to see your dad. Now you get to see your dad. Like, goodness gracious, guys. I know. I don't know if Taylor's mom still listens to our show or if Taylor still listens to our show. But can we figure this out? Like, is there a way to figure this out?
Starting point is 00:21:13 Because there is a kid involved and it sucks that you two can't be around each other. I don't even know how they're going to co-parent when I was reading this. I was like, they can't ever co-parent. This kid's got to have two separate completely different, completely different lives. It's so sad. It's so sucky. I can't imagine your parents not being in communication while being your parents. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:21:38 There is this element where in life, you know of the stories where, like, I'll call it, miraculous things happen. and there is like some sort of redemption. So I want to still believe that that's possible here. You know, it feels probably really heavy and it feels heavy to us even just reading this, even though we're so separated from the incident. But I would want to believe that there is an opportunity for the miraculous, for something to happen where they both, you know, release.
Starting point is 00:22:12 They don't have to be around each other. I don't think that is healthy. think we've seen that, but where there could be some type of compromise that is best for the child. That feels hard and probably is oversimplifying things. Yeah, but it's very helpful. But I hope that's still a path forward. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Okay. So, you know how I mentioned that there were four separate instances in which she was allegedly the subject to domestic abuse by him. No. wants to send you and a friend with flights from tripcentral.ca. Two nights at Sheridan Center Toronto. Tickets to Bruno Mars and $1,000 to cash. Don't believe me, just watch.

Okay, how long have we been best friends for?
Starting point is 00:23:25 This is the day we met. As the League One volleyball season heads towards. its final stretch, there's no better time to tune in. We really are like yin and yang, vodka and tequila. You'll hear unfiltered analysis, behind-the-scenes stories, and conversations with leaders making an impact across the sport. Today we have Logan Ledneckie. I feel like our fan base in general is very connected.
Starting point is 00:23:44 Just like a comforting feeling getting to play at home. Whether you're following the final push of love season or just love the game, serving pancakes brings you closer to the action and the people shaping the future of volleyball. Jordan Thompson had that microphone. God forbid we make a mistake or cuss at our coach. Like when I'm talking or two times. Open your free IHeart Radio app. Search Serving Pancakes and listen now.
Starting point is 00:24:07 This has been serving pancakes and we'll catch you on the flip side. Okay. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHeart Podcast presents soccer moms. So I'm Leanne. Yeah. This is my best friend Janet. Hey.
Starting point is 00:24:22 And we have been joined at the Hipsons High School. Absolutely. Now a redacted amount. of years later. We're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hips, wider. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey with all the snacks
Starting point is 00:24:38 and drinks. Sidebar. Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? They had a bogo. Well, then you got it. Do you want a white collar or something here? Just hit it. What are y'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a rap album? Oh, I would. Come on. Could you imagine? I would buy it.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Cut through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky. I'm not a drug addict. You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic. You are. I'm lucky I'm not a killer.
Starting point is 00:25:05 I love this team, and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on. Oh. Listen to soccer moms on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, Ernest, what's up? Look, money is something we all deal with, but financial literacy is what helps turn income into real wealth. On each episode of the podcast, Earn Your Leisure, we break. down the conversations you need to understand money, investing, and entrepreneurship. From stocks and real estate to credit, business, and generational wealth, we translate complex financial
Starting point is 00:25:40 topics into real conversations everyone can understand. Because the truth is, most people will never taught how money really works. But once you understand the system, you can start to build within it. That means ownership, smarter investing, and creating opportunities not just for yourself, but for the next generation. If you want to learn how to build wealth, understand the markets and think like an owner earn your leisure is the podcast for you listen to earn your leisure on the iHeart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast so one of those is of course what we were talking about the early morning of february 23rd this year there's more detail about this in this other article so she claims that he came over to her home where the three
Starting point is 00:26:32 kids were sleeping at the time demanded to speak with her um um And then the pair went outside to speak to avoid waking up the kids. And the two entered his car where she claimed that he drove away from the home. Could you imagine like just Winnie being in the house and then like you get driven away from the home? Yeah. Panic. Panic, yeah, sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:55 So then the two of them argued and Dakota assault, you know, but this is the dashboard moment. And then she said that the pain was immediate. it and intense, likening it to what she would imagine it would feel to be punched, and then listen to this. Photos filed by Taylor show the bruising that developed in the immediate aftermath of the alleged assault, and then also claims that Mortonton requested sex following their alleged February altercation. And then she's also accusing him of allegedly stalking her in February a little bit
Starting point is 00:27:36 earlier, February 14th. And this is the moment where she showed, where he showed the initials tattooed inside of her lip on Valentine's Day. Time out. Just for my mind, and I could be crazy. Is this before or after the filming of The Bachelorette? This is after the filming of The Bachelorette. This is February 14th, 2006,
Starting point is 00:27:59 a couple weeks before the actual physical altercation. It says, my initials are now permanently tattooed on the body of a man who has been abusive toward me and possessive of me. Yeah, so that's how she felt about seeing the tattoo. Then also, it was made note that on February 22nd, the day before, the argument, like, the physical fight, that ever their child is complaining about having, was complaining about not being able to sleep when he was with his dad at that house. after confronting Paul about her decision to break off the relationship, Taylor made multiple requests to Dakota that he leave her home and that he continued to reject her repeated demands that he leave her home.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Okay. So those are the details that we have for you guys. I mean, they're all so, so awful. Yeah. I mean, and so what Taylor Frankie Paul is saying is that allegedly Dakota has been possessive of her. He has been physically harmful to her. That Dakota allegedly will not be leaving her house when she asks him to. And as a result, Taylor Frankie Paul is now asking for temporary protective.
Starting point is 00:29:29 order against Dakota Mortensen. Wouldn't that already, I mean, this is legal. This is a question probably for a lawyer, but since he has a protective order against her, wouldn't that mean they can't go near each other? Why have two? I feel like there is a reason, and I just don't know. It's for the paper trail is what Heather is telling us. So when they actually go to court to figure this out and figure out what is going to be put
Starting point is 00:29:58 in permanently, then both parties now have evidence on display, and they have, you know, the paper trail of, hey, you've done this. And the other person is saying, you've done this. And let's figure out now what happens. I mean, goodness gracious. We, we are, I'm not really surprised by this news. I felt like the abuse may have been a mutual thing. physical, we weren't sure, but I don't think that this is surprising to hear.
Starting point is 00:30:34 All alleged, by the way, all alleged. I mean, I guess to close it up here, the two of them have known for a long time that they are not right for each other, that they're not good for each other. But yet there is this thing that keeps bringing them back together. And every time it does, it does feel like some incidents. incident happens. There is a child involved. And so, as we said before,
Starting point is 00:31:08 the hope is that this is like rock bottom, you know, where it feels like there's no place to turn. Everything's out in the table. They're both telling each other, hey, you've been bad in me. And the other person saying, but you've been bad at me.
Starting point is 00:31:22 And maybe there'll be a realization that, hey, we're just not right to be in the same room with each other. there's something about us together that's not good, but for the sake of this child, let's like figure this out because us fighting and us revealing these things is not going to help ever. So can we figure this out in whatever way is best?
Starting point is 00:31:50 Because if this is just brutal, Ashley. I mean, this is... I'm just trying to rack my mind about what could be best for this child. child. Of course, it's the two of them getting along, but I mean, to getting to a place of peace. We do hope that this is a rock bottom. I can't imagine that it gets any worse than this, but pray to God that it wouldn't. But yeah, so I don't know. I mean, this kid, this poor kid is going to have to have all this out in the public. We know that Taylor Frankie Paul's mom is actively involved in her life. Do we know anything about Dakota's family?
Starting point is 00:32:22 No. Apparently not that great, right, right, Heather? I don't know about his relationship, but I know that they live in Idaho, and he has gone to visit them and taken his son there since all of this kind of news broke initially. Okay. I mean, obviously, like, you, I mean, in situations like this, you think of the grandparents next? I know. Typically.
