Hey guys, it's Gia. Welcome to an episode of Dirty Rush that is so hush-hush. It's completely anonymous. We are taking you inside some of the most soared sorority scandals that were never meant to be shared. The stories you are about to hear expose the dirty side of sorority.
Starting point is 00:02:32 life, from misconduct to cover-ups and everything in between. These scandals have been kept secret until now. I was in a sorority at a school in Southern California, and my sorority had a formal at Dodger Stadium. And it was the coolest formal, I think, in the history of the sorority or probably ever. Because who has their formal at Dodger Stadium? But we did this year. And everyone was so excited for it.
Starting point is 00:03:11 It was so fun. And it was just, everyone was just looking forward to it. So I was actually on exec when this happened. So it was even more scandalous for me in the sense that we had to deal with aftermath a bit. But during our formal, we, you know, as, as a formal night goes, a lot of people had a little bit too much to drink. And it was way too nice of a venue and way too historical of a venue to host a sorority formal because there was a lot
Starting point is 00:03:49 of throw up happening everywhere. And long story short, we got kicked out two hours before our formal was supposed to end. So our formal got cut really, really short, rightfully so. but the scandal of it all was the fact that they had a wedding in there the very next morning. And so it was this whole thing about how they had to like rip up the carpet and clean it up and like flip it over for the wedding the next day. And we were banned from ever doing an event there again. And I would probably argue to say that we were the last sorority fraternity event to ever happen at. Dodger Stadium. If I was Dodger Stadium, I would never do one moving forward either, so I completely understand. But it was the scandal of my time in the sorority at, at, at school and during college,
Starting point is 00:04:51 because it was the talk of the town and especially being on exec, it was just one of those things that we had to call so many people into standards because it was, I mean, It was such a show. It just was. It was just like not only did we get kicked out, but we had to like pay the security deposit. We got our hand slapped from like our advisory board. And it was just not good at all.
Starting point is 00:05:22 It was not a good look. But also it was just it was just bad, bad, bad. But it is one of those events that I'm looking back on it. Everyone still talks about it. Remember when we had our formal at Dodgers Stadium? And look, I had the time of my life. I was not one of the people that threw up everywhere. So I was not in trouble.
Starting point is 00:05:44 But it was definitely fun. My scandalous story happened last year. This was an absolutely crazy, unexpected thing to see because the craziest part was we found out about something that had happened. at our school in a California sorority through a news article and a news report rather than through word of mouth. So basically, an unexpected situation happened on a very common street in my college town where a lot of sorority houses are and also a lot of fraternities. And basically, we found out that there had been a man who was perusing the area, kind of poking his head into houses, keeping an eye on the girl's schedules. And it turns out that there was an intruder in a
Starting point is 00:06:39 sorority at my school who had been planning, for lack of a better term, planning an attack on a sorority house. So he had kind of coordinated the time to enter a home when he knew that there were girls who were not in the house. And it turns out that he was actually a convicted felon. He was in the house at around 3 a.m. when a lot of the girls were asleep and he fled the home through one of their bedrooms at about 6 a.m. So the timing of that is really scary because it means he was in the house for three hours completely unknown, unattended, just kind of making himself at home in this sorority house. And it turns out that he was a man who was watching the girls in the communal showers. He had taken food from the house. He stole underwear from one of the girls' rooms.
Starting point is 00:07:36 And it turns out once he was arrested and this whole situation was uncovered, it turns out that he's actually convicted felon. He had multiple firearms in his possession in his car. And he was, ended up being tried for, like, prowling and peeking as well as invaded privacy and the possession of ammunition by a felon. So this was something that happened that was really obviously very scary because I can confidently say I felt so safe in my college town. It felt so safe in my sorority house. And when this all came out, it definitely kind of shook the area. And it obviously led to us considering a lot more safety protocol and safety measures. I know there are a lot of schools, especially in California, who have security guards who sit at the front door of sorority houses
Starting point is 00:08:24 to make sure that the girls are safe, especially in busier areas, but my town does not have that. And I think this situation definitely led us to consider whether or not we were doing enough to to keep everyone safe, especially because a lot of the houses here have a lot of windows. They have a lot of, you know, back entrances, girls coming in and out of the house constantly, and sometimes the doors don't get closed all the way. So in an area that has, you know, some safety concerns, it's definitely. it was definitely a situation that really spooked us. And it was also something that was so insanely unexpected
Starting point is 00:09:01 because this is an area that is really busy. There are several Greek life affiliated houses on that street. And so the fact that this man was able to come in while the girls were sleeping, he had done his research, he knew when they were all asleep and managed to get into a bedroom is really, you know, for lack of a better term, scandalous, but also just very scary. So that, I think, is a big story that was told here. I also have another situation that happened. So before I joined Greek life, I had heard a lot about, you know, kind of the stereotypes and the stories of going through recruitment and what it means to be an exec. And I've heard a lot about this through family members. And a story that I heard before I had even joined my sorority was through one of my close family members who was in a sorority herself in college. And as the story goes,
Starting point is 00:09:58 some of the details are a little bit hazy considering, I think a lot of the information was kept off of the internet for legal reasons. But one of the members of her sorority in an exec position had actually been money laundering the entire time she was in an exec position. She had been taking money directly from the sorority, directly from the National Foundation. and had been wiring it into her own account, which if you know anything about exec in a sorority, that is extremely, extremely difficult. That is something that I have no idea the logistics. I have no idea how she could have even managed that.
Starting point is 00:10:37 But it turns out she had been doing that for her entire time as an exec member in this sorority. She had taken thousands and thousands of dollars to the point where, if I remember correctly, the sorority actually had to file for bankruptcy and had to request more funds from the national organization. And once this all came out, it turned out that this girl, you know, had been taking a lot of money from other places. She had been buying herself expensive jewelry. She had been buying herself, you know, luxury items, all from her sorority. So obviously, no surprises. She was, in fact, dropped. She was put on whatever the most extreme version of probation is and was no longer able to be a part of that sorority anymore.
Starting point is 00:11:20 And it turns out she actually managed to acquire $200,000 of embezzled funds from her sorority house, using the money to purchase items like gifts, expensive, expensive gifts for her boyfriend, including a car, buying him drugs, and paying for everyday living expenses, including her own personal housing separate to living in her sorority house. I'm not sure where she is today, but I would assume that there has been some sort of of, you know, felony convictions they are considering that is probably the highest degree of fevery for about lack of a better term. This season on Dear Chelsea with me, Chelsea Handler, we've got some incredible guests like
Starting point is 00:12:10 Kumail Nanjiani. Let's start with your cat. How is she? She is not with a thing. Okay, great, great, great way to start. So this is a great beginning and hopefully you'll be able to, I don't know, maybe you will cry. Amanda Seifred. Life is so short. If you feel something like that, you have that fire in you for this experience. It's not for a guy. It's for the experience of being in love and like it's bigger than a guy.
Starting point is 00:12:36 Elizabeth Olson. I love swimming naked so much. And I know you love taking pictures of yourself naked. Yes. I love to be naked. I just want to be in my brown underwear all the time. Ross Matthews. You know what kids always say to me. Are you a boy or girl? Oh my God. That's so funny. I know. So I'm always always like, hi. I try to butcher it up for kids, you know, so they're not confused. Yeah, but you're butching it up is basically like Doris Day. Right? No, I turn into Be Arthur. Listen to these episodes of Dear Chelsea on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's up, y'all? This is Questlove recently. I had the opportunity to sit down with ASEAP Rocky ahead of his album release. Don't be dumb.
Starting point is 00:13:18 He reflects on his journey from his Harlem roots to global icon status, discovering the hip-hop origin of his name. The ledge was on the TV. Rakim had the bucket hat can go during the apostles. That's Rakim. That's who you named after. I just was like, damn, that fucking got swag. Rocky offers a window into not only a boundary-breaking artist,
Starting point is 00:13:41 but as a man committed to fusing creative ideas, community, and remaining unapologetically himself. Have you ever gotten roasted for any of your outfits? For sure. Some people don't be getting to vision. Look, they could roast me. They could cook me. They can defraud meat, like a saute, whatever they want.
Starting point is 00:13:57 It's nobody who can go with my fashion sense and my taste is impeccable. I'm just like, I impress myself a lot. It's an amazing conversation. One, you definitely don't want to miss. So listen to the Questlove show on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey there, this is Dr. Jesse Mills, director of the men's clinic at UCLA Health and host of the Mailroom podcast. Each January guys everywhere make the same resolutions. Get stronger, work harder, fix, what's broken?
Starting point is 00:14:32 But what if the real work isn't physical at all? To kick off the new year, I sat down with Dr. Steve Polter, a psychologist with over 30 years' experience, helping men unpack shame, anxiety, and emotional pain they were never taught to name. In a powerful two-part conversation, we discuss why men aren't emotionally bulletproof, why shame hides in plain sight, and how real strength comes from listening to yourself and to others. Guys who are toxic, they're immature, or they've got something they just haven't resolved.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Once that gets resolved, then there comes empathy as in compassion. If you want this to be the year, you stop powering through pain and start understanding what's underneath, listen to the mailroom on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your favorite shows. In the middle of the night, Saskia awoke in a haze. Her husband, Mike, was on his laptop. What was on his screen would change Saskia's life forever. Starting point is 00:15:45 That's your home. That's your husband. To keep this secret for so many years, he's like a seasoned pro. This is a story. about the end of a marriage. But it's also the story of one woman who was done living in the dark. You're a dangerous person who prays on vulnerable and trusting people. Your creditor, Michael Levin Good.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Listen to Betrayal Season 5, starting on January 29th, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The biggest scandal that happened throughout my four years in my sorority, I was in kind of what was advertised as like the nice, sporty, cool, down-to-earth sorority. And that was kind of, there wasn't a lot of bells and whistles and glitz and glam throughout the recruitment process. It really felt like all these girls were very genuine and a large part of that were the senior class was very involved in recruitment, which is kind of less of a thing just because typically by the time, you know, it's their fourth year in your sorority. A lot of the girls have dropped their sorority or aren't as involved. And when I was going through recruitment as a freshman,
Starting point is 00:17:14 those seniors were very heavily involved in the process. They were all on exec. There was a big group of friends that, yeah, like all had different exec positions. And it seemed like, wow, this sorority has amazing retention rate. And like, everyone seems to still love it four years in. and that think was that was a reason why me and a lot of my friends joined this sorority. It felt like it was a lot of very genuine girls.
Starting point is 00:17:39 And I do think that that was very much the case. But on the other side of it, I think that group of senior girls really had like an iron grip on the control over the sorority. And they were very, very involved in like the overall image. we quickly found. And I will never forget, like, the first chapter meeting we had. They had overheard one story that happened between, like, three girls out of our whole 70-person new member class, they heard one story and, like, ripped us a new one chapter. They told us, we have never heard this bad of a story about any new member.
Starting point is 00:18:30 class, you guys are the worst PC ever. They literally told us that and then we named our group chat the worst PC ever. And they, every time at chapter, they would just yell at us. They really were on a power trip. And this kind of just set the tone for the year because we were, as a new member class, we were scared to go to the house. We were scared to go to meals. We were scared to go to events because we didn't want to like be you know live up to our name as being like the worst PC ever and it all came to a head when it was right when we had gotten back from winter break it was January and my sorority has um things called pinnings there are these events they're basically like a frat wedding between a sorority it's like a senior sorority girl and a senior frat guy who have been dating for a while
Starting point is 00:19:22 and they have we throw them this big party whatever everyone gets very drunk and their emotions were running high. And a big thing with the senior class is they would always declare that like the first bus was the senior bus and nobody else could get on it. Well, we're taking a bus home from the venue. And there is a girl that doesn't, who's a freshman, she doesn't feel very well. And she also was assigned to be like a sober monitor for the night. And she's like only like, and she wants to get on the first bus home. Well, that first bus home was the senior bus. And there was a particular, she was on exec, and there was one senior who was on a very much a high horse.
Starting point is 00:20:10 They all were, but this one in particular, she just wanted full control over everyone in the sorority and wanted everyone to know it that like she was boss. and basically this freshman who was supposed to be, and let me back up here. The thing about, so if you are assigned as a sober monitor for an event, that means in those jobs and roles usually go to freshmen because it's in like a lottery system and younger girls just tend to be the sober monitors because the older girls don't want to be. And it's your job that there is at least one sober monitor on every bus. and this girl was the sober monitor for the night. And she gets on the quote, senior bus on the way back to UCLA.
Starting point is 00:20:58 And this senior girl looks this freshman who is a, it's her job assigned by the sorority to be on this bus. And she starts shouting at her that she needs to get off the bus. This is a senior bus that our new member class has some nerve for always like, you know, overstepping. And when she was a freshman, she knew her place. And basically this freshman is like, hey, I'm supposed to be here. I need to be on this bus. Like, I don't want to get in trouble. And this, she, like, pushes past the senior girl.
Starting point is 00:21:30 And the senior girl pushes her, physically pushes her off the bus. And some other girls, like, jumped in and are also yelling her to get off the bus. And emotions were riding high. Everyone was clearly intoxicated. But this was awful. like they treated her terribly. And so much so that this girl went home and wrote a long letter and sent it to our 200-person-wide whole sorority group me about the reasons why she was dropping the sorority and how awful like she was treated at this event
Starting point is 00:22:08 and how she would never want to be in a sorority that had girls that treated, you know, the younger classmen that way. and that there had been multiple occurrences of this and that this was like the final straw. And the rest of us freshmen were like a guess that someone finally like stood up and said something, but also that it pushed her so much to the edge that she dropped. And we didn't know explicitly what had happened
Starting point is 00:22:34 from this text, but that something must have went down that really just put her to a breaking point. So that event was like on a Friday night, that Sunday we had an emergency, what we would call fireside, which was like a sorority-wide meeting chat where we would really open up and get to the bottom of what was going on and that clearly there were serious issues that were going on in the sorority. And our advisor came.
Starting point is 00:23:06 She was in tears. She was so distraught that this is what it had come to, that like, the sorority that she knew and loved had like was treating each other this way and it was a big deal and that senior that was the main queen bee she was supposed to have a pinning the next week it was canceled revoked she had been dating her boyfriend for all four years of college she did not get a pinning and she essentially like was barred from future events and that whole senior like senior class had just like a dark cloud over them and I think our new member class was we moved in the house next year, the following year,
Starting point is 00:23:48 and we were like the closest PC ever, I think, because we honestly were all, like, trauma-bonded by how awful these seniors were. And, yeah, it just was this, like, awful crazy thing. And the worst part about it is that it didn't stay, like, Insler, it didn't stay a story within our sorority. But everybody knew about it. And at the time, Yikyak, which is like an online Reddit style, like anonymous forum where people can submit like tips and things and like up air or downer of them if they're more popular.
Starting point is 00:24:22 And people were talking all over about how our sorority was just like totally. And of course, like reputations everything was totally like the mean girl sorority and that, you know, the seniors were awful to the freshmen and that it wasn't a sorority that anyone wanted to be a part of. So it not only like made us all feel horrible, but it really tainted our reputation when we had like worked so hard to be the girls, the house that had like the nice, hardworking, genuine down-to-earth girls. And so I think we did repair that rep, but those seniors in my head still just have like a dark cloud over them. And I would never want to treat a younger classman the way. and we made it a point that we would never treat the younger classmen the way that they treated us. So we did virtual rush because it was COVID when I was rushing.
Starting point is 00:25:18 And this is very key, important detail. So it's freshman year and everything is supposed to be shut down, but we're doing like secret frat parties and things like that. And one of the frat parties, my friend hooked up with this guy who we all called George Bush because he apparently had like a massive bush. And she is, she was like a super virgin, like had never seen a penis in her life. And she ended up hooking up with him one night when we were at a secret frat party. And she actually ended up losing her virginity to him.
Starting point is 00:25:55 And he was like telling her like sit on my, sit on her face and he's going to make her come and like all of these dirty things. And she like hadn't even seen a penis before. So she was really confused as to like, what any of that meant. And she was like genuinely a fresh virgin. So she's hooking up with him. He's on top of her and they're like making out. And her nose starts bleeding.
Starting point is 00:26:18 And he like pulls away. And she's like, oh my God. Like your face has blood all over it. Like what's going on? And then he was like actually your face has blood like dripping from it. So they like get up and they go to the bathroom. And he like boners sticking out like Bush in full action is like wiping the blood. off of her face and she bolted the room and ended up Ubering home.
Starting point is 00:26:40 So like literally wiping blood off and then she just like like ghosted him. So the next weekend we had like a virtual Zoom sisterhood event where we all got put into breakout rooms just kind of like get more comfortable with each other and like be able to know that like we can confide in these older girls. So they were like kind of asking us to like tell stories and we were all talking about like bad hookup stories. So my friend ends up telling this story. and mentions that George Bush
Starting point is 00:27:07 and about eight girls at one time. The breakout room was like 16 girls. We're like, what? Like, does it happen to be this guy and this fraternity? And it did. And we found out all collectively, like, at the same time, each girl was telling their story that they had had sex with him, like, within the past month.
Starting point is 00:27:27 So there was nine girls, half of our breakout room, more than half of our breakout room in that Zoom during a sisterhood event had hooked up with the same man. within the past three weeks. And it just definitely does not end there. We were pretty rowdy to say the least. And in our sorority house, so the next year we were in our sorority house living there.
Starting point is 00:27:49 And there was something passed down called Remme the Rat. And it was like a little stuffed rat that we would all hide in the house. And then the person who found it had to hide it again. But we actually ended up doing a dildo instead. So instead of Remy the Rat, we had Drake the Dildo. and like every time we would come home from going out or anything we would just always find it like mess with it and one day we had been like a tailgate for a football game and we were all very intoxicated and went back to the sorority house and we're all playing in my room and the window was open because some people were smoking we were just being like honestly trashy and playing with the dildo and we were like physically all fighting with it and when I'm my friends just like threw it out the window and actually ended up hitting a little girl like a child like probably a six-year-old little girl smacking her in the face. And so like a couple
Starting point is 00:28:49 days later, our sorority mom or house mom ends up being like, hi guys. So we need to have a meeting. A little girl and her mom came by the house and complained about this bruise on this child's face and showed us a picture of it, it was literally like the shape of a dildo on a six-year-old's face. And we, when we threw it out there and it hit her in the face, like you could hear it, literally like smack her face and then hit the ground and it sounded like flesh. Like we all were on the ground hiding so drunk, like so messed up and like laughing obviously. But we didn't know that it would like actually get that bad to the point that they would show back up at her house, like with proof of the dildo hitting her in the face. So we all got in really big trouble,
Starting point is 00:29:35 like terrible trouble. And we ended up, like, having to hide from our house mom for the rest of the year. This season on Dear Chelsea with me, Chelsea Handler, we've got some incredible guests like Kumail Nanjiani. Let's start with your cat. How is she? She is not with a thing. Starting point is 00:34:12 living in the sorority house, one of them was the first week, living there, I had a neighbor and I was getting to know her. She was like a cool girl, whatever. And like a couple of nights after our first night's going out, like someone was like packing up all her stuff and she was nowhere to be found and we were all super confused. We found out that she actually punched another girl in a different sorority for like kissing her boyfriend or something and she got kicked out of our sorority house and the girl had like a black eye it was like a huge scandal on my campus another one I was at a frat party one time with like all my sorority sisters and whatever we were dancing I had that phone wallet type thing so all my cards were in there
Starting point is 00:35:04 and it fell off and I realized the next morning I was like she wears my wallet with all my cars and we were leaving for Mexico spring break the next week and so me and my friends went to like the frat house we went through all the garbages everywhere just trying to find it and we couldn't find it anywhere
Starting point is 00:35:24 was panicking and my guy friend from the frat came up to me at another party like the next day and he was like oh no I know what happened to your car it's like a kid in my frat saw them all on the ground and was like whoever's these are like fuck this and he chopped them into the woods.
Starting point is 00:35:43 So then I texted the guy and I was like, you can either go find every single one of my cards and give me them back or like I'm reporting you to whatever it is, like the ferrets. And so he went out to the woods, got every single one and returned them back to me and they were all like filthy, dirty, like disgusting. I know one story of a girl who at a bar
Starting point is 00:36:07 She was like previously getting with this guy and he, I guess, just ended things with her. They were on bad terms. And so she like walked by him and like kind of called him a name at the bar. And these two other girls ended up like totally like jumping her and like pouring their drink on her. And I know she had a broken foot and a concussion for like weeks. And it was a huge thing in her sorority. She couldn't do like the recruitment because they didn't want to see. They didn't want new girls to see like a girl with a broken foot and wonder what happened.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Okay, so my scandalous story was something that remained a mystery for all four years that I went to my school and was in my sorority. And it was something that happened freshman year. And we found out about it senior year. everyone would have mixers or date dashes with the fraternities, the sororities and fraternities would. And we had one. And I have to add that when I was initiated into my sorority, they finally told us that our sorority was immediately on probation for something that the girls the previous year had done. And so the newly initiated P&Ms were suffering the consequences of the older girls. So essentially, we were on probation for the first semester, could not have one singular party.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Second semester, we had our first mixer with one of our favorite fraternities. This was a night that no one could remember. Everyone was beyond hammered, you know, saying stuff that they shouldn't have been saying to people that weren't even their friends. Everyone was just ridiculously drunk, spilling secrets, hulking up with boys, etc. The next morning, we wake up from a message from the president of the fraternity within our group chat because our group mes were the way that parties and communication happened between fraternities and sororities. We woke up to a message from president with a picture of their logo, their letters in their chapter room. And there was
Starting point is 00:38:38 spray paint covering, like writing awful things on the wall. And immediately our president held an emergency meeting. It was like, what the actual fuck? Who did this on our first mixer? You've ruined like their fraternity chapter room. La, la, la, la. This is so offensive because you also drew our letters on their letters. So it's a flat out, like, wasn't just anyone random. They know it was us. They're never going to want to mix with us ever again. There is so many threats throughout the rest of the semester in our group chat during every chapter about who the fuck spray painted on this fraternity's letters.
Starting point is 00:39:30 It was kind of like a story that was never really forgotten. Then flash forward to senior year, we are at a sorority retreat, which has always been so much fun. It's the most fun for the seniors because the seniors get extremely hammered. We go to a reservoir and drink and do games and bond. The seniors also tell stories, and the stories everyone tells are very good, and they're from the past and they make everyone laugh. It's mainly more fun for the seniors, especially because everyone's drunk.
Starting point is 00:40:06 All of a sudden, this adorable girl stands up to tell a story. And this adorable girl is one of my really, really close friends. She was insanely brilliant. She was on standards, just a perfect human. Everyone adored her, loved her. All she says is, I am the, one that spray painted the fraternity's letters. And everyone screamed because everyone knew who this girl was in the sorority. And it was a story that was passed down throughout our sorority.
Starting point is 00:40:43 And the fact that it was her, it was like the most hilarious, obnoxious, no one could have guessed person to ever do something like that. So that was a scandal because she kept that fucking secret. And she kept it well. That's my scandalous story. There you have it. You just heard some of the most scandalous stories from sororities across the country. We want to thank the voices who shared what they witnessed firsthand and for exposing the side of sorority life we're not supposed to know about.
