I'm Munga Shatigula and I'm back with a new season of my podcast, Skyline Drive.
This time I talked to scientists, biopunks, curmudgins, blues owners, super seniors,
and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever
and what it means for all of us.
And I get into a bit of trouble along the way.
I'd say probably start bone smashing.
That doesn't work.
Make it look more defined.
They say it works.
I don't know.

I survived nine months in captivity, and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them.
I'm Elizabeth Smart, and these are the Survivor Files.
Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable, abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced.
These are stories about what it takes to make it out of the unthinkable.

Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth About Sorority Life, with your host, me, Gia Judice, Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Fessler.
Hey, guys, welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
I am Sally, and today we have Hunter Haig with us, one of my longtime friends.
We first met on Clayton's Season of The Bachelor.
and, you know, we've kind of kept up with our friendship ever since.
How are you doing, Hunter?
Doing great.
Excited to be here.
Yeah, I'm excited to have you here too.
I honestly didn't know it was you.
And then when they said you, I was like, oh my God, wait, that's my friend.
You're like, wait a second.
Wait a second.
I love her.
Okay, so you went to the College of Charleston.
Yes.
Remind me what sorority you were in?
I was in Zeta Tal.
of. Okay, I'm actually curious about how sorority is in Charleston, because obviously I live there,
but I don't know anything about it. Yeah. So honestly, it's, College of Charleston's one of those
schools that you don't have to be in a sorority or fraternity, but it is, it's better to be, I guess.
Yeah. Whereas I feel like USC or Clemson, like, you absolutely should be in Greek life.
College of Charleston's kind of like, you should, but like it doesn't really matter if you don't.
Because there's like a whole other like side of that school.
Is it still really like big though?
Like is Rush big in Charleston?
Because I feel like y'all don't have a football.
Like there's no football team.
So like that kind of throws me off.
You know I'm a football girl.
No Greek life at all.
That's all I feel.
No, I know.
No, I know.
But yeah, no, it actually like it's still really.
big like there's um i would say i don't remember exactly how many people went through rush or recruitment
but i think it was something like 25% of the school yeah or at least of like the freshman class or
something like that i could be making this up totally but um still really big we still have like a huge
bid day all of that good stuff we just don't do it in a stadium because we don't have stadium yeah
but we do have like a sorority row all of that i actually lived in the zeta house and
Oh, you did? I don't even think I've seen the houses in Charleston. I need to like take a ride down.
Yeah, you should. Yeah. It's on Cumming Street. Oh, I've not seen that. I don't know. It's near like meeting street. It's meeting street and coming street.
Okay. Intersection. So there's like the Zeta House, Eddie Pi, Katie. There's actually a TikTok that's going viral right now on sorority road.
at College of Charleston, and people are like, wow, this looks like a zombie apocalypse.
Wait, was this the Uber driver?
Yes.
I saw that video.
Yeah, it looked like absolute chaos.
Oh, it looks crazy.
I mean, literally insane.
When I was, I guess it was still crazy because I rushed at Alabama.
So I went to Alabama my freshman year, which I think you knew that.
Yeah, and I rushed Alabama, but I rushed Katie because I knew I wanted Katie at Carolina,
and I knew I was going to transfer.
Because I actually really liked
Kyo at Alabama.
But I, yeah, I loved the girls at Kio,
but I ended up doing KD
because I knew that that's what I wanted at South Carolina.
And then you just get, like, voted in when you go to Carolina.
So that was, like, easy.
But Russia at Bama was crazy.
I mean, I got arrested on bid day.
Sally, why does that not surprise me at all?
I mean, I had the judge or whoever had my case told me, he was like,
there was one thing that stood out to me in your case.
He was like, you had Sharpie and like it would just like cap a delta written all over your body.
Like my forehead, my chest, my arms.
He's like, it's like you passed out.
And I was like, no, I let them do that.
I was really excited to be in KD.
Like they thought that I had passed out and people just drew on me.
but that was not the case.
But it was really scary because I'm going to tell a little story.
But on bid day, I got a DM where I think it was like a Facebook message.
And it was from one of the girls that rushed me at Alabama.
And it was one of my favorite girls.
And she said, hey, did you put Katie as number one?
And I was like, you weren't really supposed to tell people.
I said yes.
And that didn't hear for her again.
And then that night we have people knocking on our doors.
They take us from my dorm room.
Put us in the back of a car.
We're like blindfolded.
We have no idea where we're going.
I'm like, great.
They're going to go make me sit in some cow shit or something,
like the crazy stories that you hear about Rush.
And I, they like take our blindfolds off.
And there's this huge house and the doors open.
It's like this huge frat party.
And it's like, welcome to Katie.
And this was the day before bid day.
Before you even knew?
Yeah.
Super, super.
super illegal in the college world.
But I was like, yeah, I picked the right one.
I was like, this already knows how to party.
But yeah, it was crazy.
But what did y'all have like, what did you all call it?
Like the week of work, they call it work week now.
I think it's just rush week.
Yeah, that's what I think too.
And we, like, did y'all do a lot of training?
Because it looks super intense now.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I will not like training but we had like we had like a welcome like situation that would happen in the arena like for basketball.
And it was just kind of like going through the ins and outs of like you're going to be assigned to a pie kai, which I understand.
Those are like row something at other schools.
Yeah.
But you have like your like leader.
And then they were like, okay, you're going to want to like take notes after each house that you go to.
So they would give us like a lot of time after each house.
we went to to write down what we felt about them.
That's all I really remember.
I don't think there was like extensive training.
Yeah.
I mean, our, we trained.
What are we training for?
Well, no, like when you're in the sorority and you're preparing for the girls to come
through your house.
Like we had to like learn dances.
Oh, when you are recruiting.
Yeah, when we were, when we were going through Rush.
No.
I have a confession.
No, wait.
No.
When we were pushing it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, recruiting.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Did you have like Stargirls?
Yes.
We had Star Girls that we had to like rush hard.
We had a slideshow.
Yes.
We had a slideshow that we would all sit and watch.
And they would be like, all right, this girl.
And I think they were called Star Girls, but they would like have like multiple pictures of this girl.
Yeah.
They'd have her name.
They'd have like where she went to school like for high school, I guess.
And not that that really matters.
And then it would be like these are her extracurriculars.
Like this is her involvement in community service.
and all of that kind of stuff.
And then we'd have to rush them extra hard.
Yeah.
But you would have like girls that were like specifically assigned to that girl.
Yeah.
Because they knew that they were like really good at recruiting or whatever.
Yeah.
And then I remember so vividly, a girl popped up on the screen.
They were like, black balled.
She slept with so and so boyfriend or whatever.
She's not.
And we would just like barely rush her.
We would like not talk to her, which is so mean.
No, that is really mean.
But so Zeta at CFC was not allowed to do that.
Yeah.
I guess none of us were really allowed to do that.
But there was girls that you were aware of that, like, you didn't really want.
We could not.
Yeah.
Like, I mean, and I think more behind the scenes, though, like, of, like, me just being out there, like, on the front line.
Yeah.
Of all of this.
I feel like it was more like, what is it called, like the council?
What is that called?
Standards.
Standards.
Okay.
Okay.
That's not what I meant, though.
But that is what I meant.
that is actually what I was trying to say.
But no, it's like the council,
like the big people that are actually really involved in the sorority.
Yeah.
Those were the people that I feel like we're like doing like,
like God's work, I guess, for making sure that girls were weeded out.
That should have been.
Yeah.
I don't know if that's God's work, but that's more of like devil's work.
Maybe I don't know.
For sure.
I think that that was just like crazy to look back on.
Yeah, I'm about to.
Okay.
What are we, like, what are your opinion?
on these outfits. Can I show her?
I mean,
that's bad.
Oh, no, I hate that.
I really hate that. The bow?
Like the metallic bow
hurt. Yeah. I mean, it's literally
like 1950s housewives. Like, I'm like,
what the fuck are you wearing?
Like, I legit, like, I feel like I'd see that at, like,
what is that, like, Comic-Con?
Yeah. Like, the, like, cosplay thing.
I hate a bow. I hate a bow.
Like a big bow.
I actually hate pink and a pink bow is even worse.
I mean, this is just, I would never be caught dead in this outfit.
The one on the left didn't feel as offensive to be.
Yeah, no, that one's not as bad.
But I will say I'm on the side of TikTok.
It's like hot.
Like, I'm watching these girls videos.
And I'm like, I didn't look like that in college.
Like, they look like they should be out of college.
Like, no wonder all these guys.
are attracted to like younger girl. I mean, they look like there are age and they dress hot.
I don't know. Yeah. I'm like watching these and I was like, I wish I was in a sorority right now because
it looks fun. Like the TikTok videos look fun. I mean, did y'all make videos? We didn't make videos.
Oh, we made videos. You did? Yeah, we did. That was like more towards the end of my time,
but there were like the star girls who would be featured in our videos.
Yeah.
And like our Instagram, like social media was already like pretty big at that point.
It just wasn't as big.
Like we weren't doing like freaking stunts and like tumbling.
They're getting crazy brand deals.
I mean, these girls in college, these sororities are getting like I saw, you know,
the poppy one, which was big because they had the love I.
guy that lives in Charleston there.
And then I also saw another one
that was like a clothing company
that they dressed all the girls.
That's crazy to me.
Because they just know, though.
Brands know that it's going to do well.
Behind every night spent making the kids' lunches,
there's a lot of suspense.
Will they finally eat the veggies?
Will the pastos survive the first bite?
Will the lunchbox come home empty, half full,
or come home at all?

On the new podcast Solita, we share the messy reality of traveling alone as a woman.
I can wait four hours for the next bus or this random dude is offering me a ride on his motorcycle.
I chose option B.
I'm Julie Pinero, and I travel by myself because,
It's a rare space where I can say yes without asking anyone else first.
I'm on a mission to reclaim the word solita, trading the pity for possibility.
Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people, and they were like,
you smiled at us. Not a lot of people smile around here.
It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is,
and not the lies you're sold about it.
It can be a time where you push your limits, change your mind,
or wake up to a new version of yourself.
So whether you're a solo travel veteran
or you're too nervous to book your first trip,
I hope you listen to Solita
on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, this is Hayes Davenport.
And Sean Clements.
We host the podcast Hollywood Handbook
on the Big Money Players Network.
Our show is extremely accessible to first-time listeners.
Each week, we talk to someone in show business,
a.k.a. The biz.
and try to help them with their careers and see what they have to offer us.
Everyone has a good time and no one gets mad at their publicist for letting them do our show.
We've had a lot of great guests like Sarah Sherman, not that great.
Actually, can you help me shape this?
How about we flip it on his head, right?
How about we flip this script?
What is the surprise woman who actually you think is the straight man is actually the one who's acting weird?
Adam Scott.
This entire time, you.
You've been expecting Adam Sandler to come to visit the show.
I would never expect.
I have.
I would never set expectations for something like that to happen.
If the universe allows for something like that to happen, I'm open to it.
I'm always going to accept.
You know, Danny McBride, fine.
Yeah, it's all this fragile masculinity exuding.
I could smell it walking down the hallway, to be honest with you.
I was like, is that weed?
Nope.
It's fragile.
masculinity. Ben Stiller, no. Because a lot of times
out of context, people don't get it or even know what a circle is.
You know what I mean? Like, you're like, oh, what's a state.
Everyone's so dumb. And fake. Right. Fake. And also not interested
or just like, oh, I've got my life. I don't care about your life. And a lot of other big
shots that wouldn't be where they are without us. Oh, and by the way, Will Ferrell told
us personally he loves the show and he wants to be a guest on every episode, but he's just so busy.

I survived, and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them.
I'm Elizabeth Smart, and these are the Survivor Files.
I just remember this low, taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything.
Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable.
I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me.
I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed, and I just started screaming.
They are abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced.
But these aren't stories about what's taken from them.
There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive.

See you between the pages.
Let's talk about like when did Rush become a full on marketing campaign?
Because Bama, they had a whole ass like Nike campaign.
I'm like, these girls are making money on their TikToks from doing Rush, which is insane.
But awesome, awesome at the same time.
Yeah, I mean, like, good for them, but like...
Not that I feel like they need the money if they're going to ban on, but...
True, you grew.
Everyone was so rich when I went there, I was like a fish out of water.
No, literally.
But whenever we went through rush, I feel like everything was supposed to be so hush, hush,
and like, you're going through recruitment, but like, you're not allowed to talk about it.
You're not allowed to talk about who you're going to prep.
You're not allowed to talk about anything.
And if you do, then you're going to be blackballed or you're going to be dropped from every sorority.
Like, that's just the way that it was.
and I know had I posted because like I said social media was already like obviously
I remember being that big when we were in school.
Oh yeah like Instagram had like dropped.
I mean at this point I feel like I was like using it more as like a filter like viscato situation
than I was like an actual platform.
But I mean YouTube remember like YouTube was big.
And so like I unfortunately was somewhat of a YouTuber.
And I feel like if I would have been like, hey, like, I'm going through sorority rush at College of Charles.
Like, immediately.
Cancel.
People would make fun of us.
And now I am like, I'm on rush talk all day.
Like if I'm doom scrolling, that's what I'm on.
I love it.
But the girl, I mean, it's just they're, there, I do you think they have the girls in the front that are like on the dance team or used to be on the dance team in college because they're like really good.
And I think brands.
are noticing that this is, you know, everyone gets excited for Rush Week because of TikTok.
Like, all my friends are on that. So I feel like it's good for brands because not only is one
girl talking about this brand, it's like the whole damn sorority, you know? So they're probably like,
this is way better for us, a better bank for our buck. I mean, honestly, I think it's smart
for brands to go after Rush Talk. No, I think so too. And I, and so like to bring up your point
of like when this started, the first time that I ever saw any of this happening and it really
became a thing, I think was like Kylin going through.
Oh, yeah.
Whatever happened to her.
Going through recruitment.
She went through something.
She like, she chopped her hair.
I know that.
She has like a bob.
That's not what I meant.
But I guess the chopped, the chopped hair came after she went through something.
I don't know.
But didn't she like drop her sorority?
Yeah, maybe that was correlating.
Didn't she like drop her sorority or something?
I don't know. No, I don't think so. I don't remember. I think she, I think she wins Zeta. I could be wrong, but I think she went Zeta. And she is like more focused on, oh, for it's broadcaster. Yes, yes, yes. But I think she's still like an A plus student at her sorority. I used to love watching her TikToks. I think is Izzy? Is he? Is he? Is it is she? Is it's that her sister? Yep. So her sister went through recruitment and didn't like pick any of them or they didn't pick her. I'm not really sure.
there has been like speculation about both.
Dude, it's really bad for your, I mean,
it's really bad for your mental health, I think.
Rush is crazy.
I mean, I remember going into the Phi Mew House at Alabama,
and they were like, don't touch the railing on the staircase
or else they're going to drop you.
And I remember walking down in my damn tall ass heels,
and I touch it for support.
And then I was like, and I remember the girl looking,
she like side-eyed my hand and I the only the only sorority that dropped me I'm you
because I touched no way in railing yep I'm not kidding the only sorority to drop me was Katie
I'm just kidding we would have welcomed you at South Carolina oh my god no I literally
I remember though Katie was like at Charleston at least was one of those sororities that was
like, what did your dad do?
Oh.
And you're like, oh, what does that matter?
Like, they were that type 80 pie though.
And I kind of, I kind of vibe with 80 pie, honestly, but they were the ones that, like,
you've probably heard of this at other, like, sorority, other schools and stuff, but, like,
where they would rank you behind your back.
Because you know how, like, we had to put our hands, like, on the back.
And then it would be, like, a one to.
two, three, four, or five, or whatever.
I always heard that about 80 Pi.
I don't know if that was true, but I would, like, try to feel like how many fingers were
on my back.
It's crazy how different, how different each sorority is at every school, you know?
Like, it's just so insane.
I do remember rushing this one girl.
I'm not going to say her name, but, like, the sorority wanted to drop her, and I'm,
I fought for her so hard because she was just, like, really easy to talk to.
I loved her.
and they were like, we're dropping her and I fought so hard.
She ended up being president of our sorterty.
Yeah.
And I was like, I told you all this bitch was cool.
You were her advocate.
Yeah, I was.
That's great.
Okay.
How many free products are sorority girls actually getting during work week, do we think?
And recruitment.
Because brands like Poppy are selling like, I mean, hundreds or thousands of custom cans to these people.
I bet they're getting like offered a bunch of bunch of bunch of churches.
stuff. For poppy, are we talking about, like, for everything? For everything. Like, how many free
products do we think that they're actually getting? Okay, just think about it. There's definitely
makeup products that are being sent. Yeah. Because I feel like that's like the first thing to be sent.
I mean, this is, like, active members are getting stacked PR boxes just for being on socials.
But I feel like that happens in out of shorties, too, you know? I get PR packages.
Yeah, but, but this is like because of,
I need to go back to college and be in a sorority.
We're going back to recruitment.
Yeah, because I feel like I'm a TikTok early now,
and I would thrive at rush week, work week, whatever.
You are a TikTok early now,
and I've been loving this era for you because...
Thank you.
Remember when I was like super into TikTok?
Well, like, I still like TikTok always,
but like I would try to get Sally to do TikToks with me,
and she'd be like, mm-hmm, no.
Actually, you were always kind of down.
You were always kind of down.
I'm a down, bitch.
I don't really know a lot about it.
Yeah.
But now, I feel like I've gotten more comfortable in my skin.
Because when we were, it wasn't normal when we were in college.
Like the videoing and the like synchronized dancing.
Yeah.
And now I just want to be, I just want to be young again.
You know what, though?
I feel like we're seeing the like glamorized side of that though.
Because there are always people, especially the girls going through recruitment that are those types
that are like, you know the type of girl that's like, oh, you put on makeup every day?
Like, that seems so hard.
Like, I could never do that because like, that's just not, like, I don't have enough time.
And you're like, okay, bitch, like, maybe you should.
That's a backhanded compliment.
Exactly.
And so I feel like those girls still very much exist in this.
We're just not seeing them.
So I think they're the people that are like holier than now that are still like, I would
never post about my recruitment experience.
but we're seeing like the like glamorized version of like these people are getting like
brand deals.
Did you see the girl that apparently blinked in Morse code?
SOS?
How does she even know that?
Did anybody else see that or is that just the site of TikTok?
I'm on.
Yeah, she's like in the front and center, front and center in a synchronized TikTok on, yeah, at Auburn.
And she, they slowed the video down because people were like,
her blinkings off. And it was Morse code for SOS.
Please someone help me. You know what? I'm a chronic blinker and I wonder if she just like
But like Morse code? You don't blink in Morse code. I might blink in Morse code. You never know.
I don't know. The only thing I know about Morse code is the movie Interstellar. That movie is so good.
All right guys, there's so much more to talk about. Stay tuned for part two.

And Sean Clements.
We host the podcast, Hollywood Handbook.
Each week, we talk to someone in show business and try to help them with their careers and see what they have to offer us.
Everyone has a good time, and no one gets mad at their publicists for letting them do our show.
We've had a lot of great guests like Sarah Sherman, Adam Scott, Danny McBride, Ben Stillard,
and a lot of other big shots that wouldn't be where they are without.
