These ladies are living proof that life only gets better and more fulfilling as you get older. From the Golden Bachelor, it's Teresa Nis. Hello. Hello. And from the Golden Bachelor and this season of Bachelor in Paradise, it's Leslie Fima. Hi.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Hi, you guys. We're so happy to be here. I'm not as happy as I am to have you. I'm a little obsessed. But I also, I do want to let everyone know that we are podcasting from Verbo at the summer house in Lake Tahoe. And I want everyone to know that because now this is my absolute destination. How gorgeous is it here you guys?
Starting point is 00:03:46 No, I'm definitely, I'm bringing my kids here. I mean, who knew? I was always a beach person. Yes. And the way that, like, what they're facing, the mountains were blown away. Yes, right? blown away. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Right. You all are actually used to good views, though. You've been to several paradise situations, right? Yeah. So we know our destinations, and this is a good one. Yeah. Procastinators rejoice. The early bird is not the only one who gets the worm.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Verbo offers last-minute deals for private vacation rentals. Verbo's last-minute deals are live on the Verbo app and website showing travelers nearly 300,000 discounted properties they can book within 30 days of check-in. A few destinations with plenty of last-minute booking options include Hilton Head, South Carolina, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, San Diego, Puerto Vallada, and of course, Lake Tahoe, we're recording this episode inside a lovely verbo. Finding these deals is simple with the last-minute booking filter. An industry first for vacation rentals. Discounted vacation rentals are also labeled with a last-minute badge that displays the total amount travelers can save with their booking. Plus, travelers never have to second-guess the total cost or worry about hidden.
Starting point is 00:04:57 fees. Verbo displays all mandatory fees in the upfront price. Right? That's right. Pretty good. Pretty good situation. Love verbal. Love verbal. So you guys, I also want our listeners to know that we are at a pickleball tournament, which seems to, right, is reflected. Hence the pickleball office. I do not play pickleball. I rather would lay out by the pool. So hence the non-pickle ball attire. Yes, that's not my thing. but so you both are partnered up for the tournament right you got a game plan going into this well actually Teresa was in Minneapolis a couple weeks ago and we did play yeah and um we played with two of my friends and um we did really well you did I think we're a good team do we name the team is there a name um wait I can think it's amazing I don't think this how about the hottest of the
Starting point is 00:05:54 The hottest of the Golden Bachelorette. The hottest, too. Too hot girls. Sorry, although I actually love a few of you guys. This show, I loved so much watching the Golden Bachelorette and the Golden Bachelorette and now Bachelor in Paradise. I have to say, I feel like I was waiting and waiting for them to finally recognize that there are women that are walking this world who are not 20 and 110 pounds. and hot, and there are women that are even hotter because they are older and smarter and wiser. So I have been really happy, not that they give a shit what I think, but the fact that The Bachelor, you know, started this.
Starting point is 00:06:36 I'm really glad that they are acknowledging women are age, and men are age as well. You know, that's huge. We feel like we're finally showing the world what has always been that when you're at this age, you still have so much love and life to give. Amen, sister. Yeah. What is the age range getting on the show? Is they take, what is it? Well, for our show, it was 60 and up.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Okay. Yeah, it started up. So I got three more years, Jeff Fessler, before I hit it. Just kidding, just kidding. Okay, 60 and up. Yeah, and I feel like you all are on the younger side. Well, I was 65 when I was on. So I was, but there were a lot of women that were 60.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Really? Mm-hmm. And I turned 70. the night the show came you're not going to 72. Yeah, it was her birthday. Yeah, I'm very old. Wow, you are not very, she's amazing. She's amazing.
Starting point is 00:07:32 No, I mean, it's just, it is really incredible. I mean, with the legs of it all, you guys, in these like outfits, I can't. It is. Yeah, sometimes we're like, hmm, are we dressing our age? Hell, yes. Well, plenty of people tell us we're not dressing. I know, but we don't care. You get that, really?
Starting point is 00:07:48 It's okay. Yes, we get that. I get that. I mean, I'm a big cursor, so please forgive me, but for them. I know. I mean, it's, I don't really care of people think, you know, I try to keep, I try not, right? To each his very own. Whatever makes you happy. Exactly. Amen. Exactly. Exactly. This is what makes, in my view, older women, hotter. Yeah. Right? It's that. I mean, and also, like, as long as my kids don't go, oh my God, mom, what are you wearing, then I'm okay. You know, like, if they did say that to me, I'd be like, all right, maybe I better take this off. But they don't. Well, my kids do say it to me. And I say, stay in your, please stay in your lane. Stay in your lane.
Starting point is 00:08:25 Exactly. Don't talk to me that way. I tend to my daughter to set me straight. Is this wrong? Is this bad? I like that. Yeah. No, I'm, I don't listen to them at all.
Starting point is 00:08:34 But anyway, moving on. So, Leslie, I am enthralled by Bachelor in Paradise and what is going on with you. So let's just kind of first start out there. Okay. So talk to me about you and Gary. You guys had such a nice moment on the beach. I have to say, I saw him. obviously on the Bachelorette.
Starting point is 00:08:55 What a doll of a man. I mean, just sugar, right? Yeah. He's so sweet. He just seems so warm and wonderful. So tell me about that. Well, the funny thing is I hadn't met Gary at all. And some of the other people did things and they met each other.
Starting point is 00:09:11 But I hadn't met Gary. And then they announced us on the finale of Grant's season. So I walk into the green room as the first time I met Gary. and I walk in and he's just larger than life. He really is. And, you know, he's so kind. And we became fast friends, you know, because we were going out, like, at the end of the show and Jesse was going to say, and we have a surprise, you know.
Starting point is 00:09:34 The Goldens are coming to Paraguayyce. And so we were the two people that were announced together. Right. I didn't think, you know, I mean, we didn't really talk after that at all. I mean, we had like two months before we were going. And so when I got to Paradise and Gary, came, he came a couple days later than I did. I don't know, we just like hit it off and we had talked in the green room
Starting point is 00:09:58 we're going to dance because we both like to dance. And then he gets this date card and it's dancing. And so he decided to take me on the date and I was thrilled. And we had the best time because it, like every night in Costa Rica in May, it rains. So, of course, it started to rain and everything's outside. You know, the dance floor, the band, the dancers, they're all outside. and we danced in the rain. I kicked my shoes off.
Starting point is 00:10:23 We had so much fun. We were so... You were good partners. You guys were like really well matched. Seriously. Yeah, I mean, I, first of all, I dance, but I do not salsa dance. I mean, I've never taken a lesson. I don't ballroom dance.
Starting point is 00:10:36 I don't do anything like that. So, you know, he's like, let me take the lead. I'm like, okay, okay, that's going to be hard for me, but okay. But we, yeah, we just had so much fun and we just literally had a great time. That's what it looked like. You know, there are so many dates where you're like, you see like the awkwardness or it doesn't seem like the connection is real. But I felt like watching that like you guys were just really honestly,
Starting point is 00:10:59 earnestly having a good time. Yeah, I can't like stress enough how we just like couldn't stop laughing and making jokes. And we had a little thing. We like would wipe our brow and then flick it because the rain was like in our face. So we just, we're great. And you know what? Guys will have to watch the show to see. happens obviously but i can honestly say right now he's one of my dearest friends love it and um
Starting point is 00:11:27 that's all i can really say about that all right well i want to know then you had that moment with captain kim teresa what did you think of that poem i loved it i loved it so much you did it was so great she was so good in that moment she listened intently she told him it was beautiful yeah she gave him his due. I love did you handle it so well. Thank you. Thank you. I have to, I'm not really surprised that you loved it because I have to say that it felt like a Gary move. I know. Like a little bit, depends who the woman is, little cringy. Yeah. But also very, very sweet. The problem was that I was in a predicament because we didn't know who was going to go first. And I can't tell Natasha who to pick that. I'm not going to do that, you know.
Starting point is 00:12:17 So obviously, so I was hoping I'd be called first so I can give Gary my rose. Because, of course, I want to give my rose. We just literally had this amazing date. And I was really scrambling in my head, like, what if I don't get called first? Because I heard that Natasha might want to pick Gary. And I'm like, what would I do? Well, I'll figure that out when I get there, right? So it happened.
Starting point is 00:12:39 And I literally was standing there thinking, I don't know what to do right now. I don't know who to pick. I'm glad. I mean, I was happy he just seems like such a also Yeah, and so I did tell him After he wrote that poem for me I did say, you know, Kim, I wanted to be honest with him I said I would have given Gary My Rose
Starting point is 00:13:00 If I had been called first But I felt like you deserve to be here And you added the group So I did tell him that I love it. I love that My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious. Wait a minute, Sam, maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age.
Starting point is 00:13:44 And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hello, it's Daniel Fischel.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Writer Strong and Wilfredel from PodMeets World. And we're bringing you Viva Las Content. That's right. we are back in Las Vegas, the city of sin, and giving the people what they want. A full week of Y2K content. Wait, we're back in Vegas? Tell me why.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Well, for the Backstreet Boys residency at Sphere, of course. We sat down with Kevin Richardson and A.J. McLean just minutes before they took the stage, and our very own Wilfredel basically became the newest member of the band. Boy band, please. Plus, the man who has the longest running comedy show on the strip joins us and gets his props. It's Carrot Top, baby. And finally, we all L-O-V-E-Hur.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Ashley Simpson-Ross joins us to talk about her upcoming sold-out Vegas residency. It's a full week of nostalgic interviews you don't want to miss. Listen to PodMeets World on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. December 29th, 1975, LaGuardia Airport. The holiday rush, parents hauling luggage, kids gripping their new Christmas toys.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Then, at 6.33 p.m., everything changed. There's been a bombing at the TWA terminal. Apparently, the explosion actually impelled metal, glass. The injured were being loaded into ambulances. Just a chaotic, chaotic scene. In its wake, a new kind of enemy emerged, and it was here to stay. terrorism. Law and order criminal justice system is back. In season two, we're turning our focus to a threat that hides in plain sight. That's harder to predict and even harder to stop. Listen to the new season of Law and Order Criminal Justice System on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:16:03 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I don't write songs. God write songs. I take it. I take it. dictation. I didn't even know you've been a pastor for over 10 years. I think culture is any space that you live in that develops you. On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us podcast, I sat down with Warren Campbell, Grammy-winning producer, pastor, and music executive to talk about the beats, the business, and the legacy behind some of the biggest names in gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. This is like watching Michael Jackson talk about Thurley before it happened. Was there a particular moment where you realize just how instrumental music culture was to shaping all.
Starting point is 00:16:42 of our global ecosystem. I was eight years old, and the Motown 25 special came on. And all the great Motown artists, Marvin, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, Diana Ross. From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, we get into the soul of the music and the purpose that drives it. Listen to Culture raises us on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was. Most everything was burned up pretty good from the fire.
Starting point is 00:17:12 Not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen.
Starting point is 00:17:41 And I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors. And you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless cases to finally solve the unsolvable. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. seem like in watching it that the goldens, I'm not sure yet if I love that term. I'm a little like, I'm iffy on it. I know. I don't know. But why does it seem like the goldens are having more fun than, I don't care, than the children. Sorry, I don't care. If you're the goldens,
Starting point is 00:18:29 they're the children. Teresa, you answer that. You know why? Because we have wisdom and we know that you should not sweat the small stuff. And we know that the things they're getting upset about is it's just not important in the large scheme of things. And we're at this age where we want to enjoy life and have joy in our lives and just look at the good side of everything. Some of it just seems just trivial too. Yes, you know, we just don't care. We don't care.
Starting point is 00:18:59 I don't care if my hair is wet. Do you guys see that new? I can't believe I'm saying this, but there's like somebody who's viral, this woman who says a club for women in perimenopause and menopause, and it's the We Do Not Care Club. Oh, I love that. Have you seen that?
Starting point is 00:19:14 She's hilarious. No, that is, but that's us. We were in a club. We do not care. In Costa Rica, we don't care. Like, we'll just do anything, say anything. Like, who cares? I mean, you know, we're being judged.
Starting point is 00:19:27 We're 66, 68, 70. I don't, it doesn't matter what we are. And we don't care anymore. Yeah. And I think, you know. What a beautiful thing. Yeah, it's like, it's one of the perks of getting older. Yeah. Agreed. So I'm curious how you guys feel about this because, so I'm going to be 57 in August, but I, watching it, I don't know, I was a little triggered. And I'll tell you what it was. I was a little triggered watching the youngens and the way that they were so, aren't they cute? Yes. I really, it really bugs me. Oh my God. Or saying,
Starting point is 00:20:06 you know, wow, talk about a cougar, or I better share my Cialis. Like that, it really bothers me. It feels very patronizing. It did. Right? I didn't want to say that to you, but I did feel that way on the first episode. Oh, look at them in their cute outfits. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:22 Like, as if we've never kissed anyone or never had love lives. I'm like, we were babies. Yeah. We've been through so much, and I did feel that way, and I was so happy on the second episode where that went away. Yeah. It did. I think they were expecting something.
Starting point is 00:20:36 different. And I think when we came in, they were expecting, oh, you know, cute outfit. I had a bikini on and all the girls were like, where'd you get that? But, you know, like, so I think they were expecting something different. And after probably, I'd say, four hours, they, they were like, oh, yeah, this is, this is not what we were expecting. Well, I mean, yeah, they have, they're human. Who knew? Like, I don't know. Your bikini wasn't cute. It was hot. And I don't know. It just doesn't feel respectful to me to be so patronizing you know at our age we don't need to be right we're not looking to be cute no right no we're looking to be grown-ass women exactly sexy I hate when people say you're so cute and I'm like yeah no no not for me that is not for me no all right
Starting point is 00:21:23 so let's talk a little bit we're going to shift gears just a little bit so a lot of our listeners out there are struggling when it comes to dating um just learning to date all over again after having been in a long marriage, a long-term relationship. Obviously, you two have had some experience in this area. So what do you feel like is your best advice now for someone, a woman who is getting back out there after, you know, being with someone for years and years? So before this all started, I was on the dating apps and I did a lot. And I guess I had hundreds of dates.
Starting point is 00:22:01 I won't go back to doing that personally. I think that it's just getting out there and out of your shell and maybe do five things where you're volunteering or you're taking a cooking class or you're going out and meeting, taking a wine class,
Starting point is 00:22:17 just get out and do things. And I said this recently, like making eye contact with people and then telling everybody in your circle of friends and we meet so many people now. So even to tell them that you're looking. And that's what I'm, I think I'm doing at this point.
Starting point is 00:22:34 And I can say, people do ask me, like, what, you know, what's your advice? What's, you know, what? And basically, I tell everyone the same thing. Don't say no. Don't say no to anything. Just go. If you're asked to go to a show, go. Even if you don't feel like it.
Starting point is 00:22:51 If you're asked to go to a concert, get out there, go. Have fun. You never know who you're going to meet. You never know who you're going to meet that knows somebody. You might be standing in line at a concert to get a drink and there's a cute guy ahead of you. Like, you just don't know. And that's what I always tell people, just don't say no. And you've got to force yourself.
Starting point is 00:23:11 When I was in my 20s, I was the director of a dating service called It's Just Lunch. It's actually how I met my husband. Oh, that's so cool. Yeah, well, it was definitely against the rules. But here we are, whatever, all these years later. But I remember saying then and saying now with dating apps, because we didn't have that back. then. Right. Like the whole thing about not saying no, and I know dating apps can be tricky, but even if it's just meeting up with someone, never, it doesn't have to be dinner.
Starting point is 00:23:38 No. It could be a coffee. I would do a coffee. And not knowing, like expecting it, not, expecting there to not be a spark, right? The probability is that you're not going to click with someone in that way until you do. But like having said that, potentially this is a new friend and he knows someone for you and you know someone for him. And to just, if you go in looking at it, like, this is just an experience to make a new friend, sit down. And by the way, you're not giving out your home address. And you're not, so, and I feel like at our age, it's easier to say, listen, you seem like a really nice guy.
Starting point is 00:24:11 I don't feel a spark. But, you know, and at our age, I feel like that kind of thing, we could take it. But there's nothing wrong with having friendships, too. Like, you know, when you're our age, relationships, they come in a lot of different forms. And I believe that, you know, having relationships, whether it's a girlfriend or a guy. I have a lot of guys, guy friends, you know,
Starting point is 00:24:33 and I think that's important, you know, to round out your life. I agree. You agree. What do you feel like is different now in terms of dating in 2025 than it was, well, certainly, well, you guys, how long were you both? You were married twice, right? I was, but I've been single for, like, 20 years.
Starting point is 00:24:51 I mean, I had a few, I had a few, the apps in the social media, but maybe not the social media, right? Yeah. It's different now, right? Yeah, it's different. I just don't. I mean, Minneapolis, I've lived there my whole life. I know everybody. And it's a small, big town. And I just, I don't see me finding somebody there. Maybe somebody that is going to move there or somebody that has a dad that lives in Chicago or, you know, someplace like that. I would love to, you know, find somebody. I don't care where they live, you know. But I don't know. It's hard at home. it's hard when you feel like yeah you've met everybody and you know them all i know i'm sure that is what are you thinking so um my husband passed away almost 11 years and so at first i thought no i'll never be with a man again and and then i did do it's what's different about now i guess
Starting point is 00:25:43 the dating apps is that it just seems like there could could be another better person and a better person but I love your advice about think not thinking of it in terms of it absolutely has to be your love it's expected not to be yeah like the odds are against you that it's going to be over the worst but don't go into it knowing yeah probably this is not going to be a love connection yeah but it's another human yeah yeah nothing about this person but like that guy they might know somebody or you know you just don't know yeah and again like not taking it all so seriously I think not, you know, being our age also in, when I was in my 20s and dating, it was, it was life or death. I wanted to get married and have a baby. Yeah. It's all I can think about. It was so,
Starting point is 00:26:31 right? Yeah. I did too. I got married at 21. Oh my God. Wow. 18. 18? I mean, I remember this from the show you guys. It's just been a while. My kids are 23 and 25. I cannot even picture either one of them coming to me saying that they, oh, I know. Right? No. No. I mean, my son got married at 30, and I'm like, oh, you know, you're so young, but I'm like, no, he's not, you know. Jeff also was, I was 30. I was 30. Yeah, I was 30 and Jeff was 36. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:27:02 And I was like as much, and I wanted, it was a long 10 years between 20 and 30. And again, like the biological clock thing and all of that. I know. Yeah. But to kind of not have that pressure now, right? Yeah. Like, we know, like that was felt like I had to get my life started. Right? And our life is obviously.
Starting point is 00:27:19 Because it's like TikTok. We've got to go, you know. Yeah. You're so right. That's what's so different now is that we don't have that urgency. Yeah, right. We're not looking to make a family. Right.
Starting point is 00:27:28 And I really love what you said that now I might have back on a dating app. Really? Just think of it as just finding friends. I mean, yeah. By the way, you might not even hit it off his friends. But it's, it's, you'll have a good cup of coffee. Yeah. Maybe you'll meet an asshole.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Maybe it'll be a really nice guy. Exactly. And you put a time frame on it. You could say, I'd love to meet for coffee. I've got, you know, a half an hour. here quick in and out right yeah and see what happens maybe you'll stay longer I never know well I'm gonna go back into uh the dating there you go yeah I'm gonna be a new matchmaker you should you should I love that my boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm
Starting point is 00:28:12 seriously suspicious oh wait a minute Sam maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit well Dakota it's back to school week on the okay story time podcast so we'll find out This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. It's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boy? boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not. To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart
Starting point is 00:28:56 Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hello, it's Daniel Fischel. Writer Strong. And Will Ferdell from PodMeets World. And we're bringing you Viva Las Content. That's right. We are back in Las Vegas, the city of Sin, and giving the people what they want. A full week of Y2K content.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Wait, we're back in Vegas? Tell me why. Well, for the Backstreet Boys residency at Sphere, of course. We sat down with Kevin Richardson and A.J. McLean just minutes before they took the stage, and our very own Wilfredel basically became the newest member of the band. Boy band, please. Plus, the man who has the longest running comedy show on the strip joins us and gets his props. It's carrot top, baby.
Starting point is 00:29:41 And finally, we all L-O-V-E-Hur. Ashley Simpson-Ross joins us to talk about her upcoming sold-out Vegas residence. It's a full week of nostalgic interviews you don't want to miss. Listen to PodMeets World on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. December 29th, 1975, LaGuardia Airport. The holiday rush, parents hauling luggage, kids gripping their new Christmas toys. Then, at 6.33 p.m., everything changed. There's been a bombing at the TWA terminal.
Starting point is 00:30:21 Apparently, the explosion actually impelled metal glass. The injured were being loaded into ambulances. Just a chaotic, chaotic scene. In its wake, a new kind of enemy emerged, and it was here to stay. Terrorism. Law and order, criminal justice system is back. In season two, we're turning our focus to a threat that hides in plain sight. that's harder to predict and even harder to stop.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Listen to the new season of Law and Order Criminal Justice System on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I don't write songs. God write songs. I take dictation. I didn't even know you've been a pastor for over 10 years. I think culture is any space that you live in that develops you. On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us podcast, I sat down with Warren Campbell, Grammy-winning producer, pastor, and music executive to talk about the beats,
Starting point is 00:31:22 the business, and the legacy behind some of the biggest names in gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. This is like watching Michael Jackson talk about Thurley before it happened. Was there a particular moment where you realize just how instrumental music culture was to shaping all of our global ecosystem? I was eight years old, and the Motown 25 special came on. And all the great Motown artists, Marvin, Stevie Wonder, Tim. From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, we get into the soul of the music and the purpose that drives it. Listen to Culture raises us on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:31:59 What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aimed to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to him.
Starting point is 00:32:48 And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Do you think that you should FaceTime someone? And this is interesting because this is sort of like I'm saying to you meet somebody for half an hour. Or do you FaceTime a man before you go out with him? I don't. You don't?
Starting point is 00:33:16 I do. you do you do i don't first of all i have to hear a voice so i if if they're just texting and i'm like no i got to hear your voice right because for me a voice is says a lot yeah and the way they talk and if they have good grammar and you know yeah but i know it's supposed to be just a quick cup of coffee whatever but that's when i was on the dating apps i always had to hear their voice first i understand that no i feel the same way but i kind of feel like the face time takes away some of the mystery of it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Like there's an excitement about meeting someone for the first time. Yeah. I do several phone calls before I would meet someone. Well, it's also like, don't you think that it's not, when it's not live, it's just a different dynamic. It's like, you know, and it's like you can't really connect in the same way. And maybe if you meet face to face, there is some kind of chemical. There's a chemistry.
Starting point is 00:34:10 Maybe. That could happen. But remember, probably not. But I have to say I was on. not the um i was it wasn't it's not a matchmaker but it kind of is a matchmaker and they match you up and then you have a zoom date and i had a great zoom date with somebody and he was i could i could have talked to him and been on whatever and then actually he lived in new york and i went to new york and i met him for coffee face to face and it was like a completely
Starting point is 00:34:42 different person and I'm like that wasn't how it was on Zoom. So you just don't know. Although it's New York for a coffee date? No, I was in New York. No, I was in New York. No, I didn't go to New York for a coffee date. I was in New York and he was, you know, and I happened to be going there.
Starting point is 00:35:01 I'm like, well, I'd love to meet you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, all right. And now I'm just curious about how these guys, these older guys, find you besides the apps like any of them I hate this expression slide into your DMs like the young people say they do well especially now because you guys have
Starting point is 00:35:20 I've got daughters sliding into my DMs for their fathers yes me too and I've had a man send me roses get out and a love letter and he's just convinced I'm the woman and where is he no no not for you not for me got it mostly we get very young guys like way too young really like 30 year olds
Starting point is 00:35:38 we don't understand it no it's like I had to understand it. Do you want me to explain it to you? I don't know. Oh, I understand it. Come on. I mean, I, listen, it's, whatever. I mean, I find you both just so charming and lovely and beautiful. But so, um, do you get hit on a lot? Like, do people recognize you? Oh, they recognize us everywhere. Really? But we, I mean, I don't know. We don't. We get recognized by young people so much. Oh, the young people. Yeah. And that they loved us. The young people. It's the, it's a boyfriend and girlfriend and the boyfriend recognizes us or me or her and he goes I told you it was her yeah it's so funny you guys
Starting point is 00:36:17 because I um I got on a reality show on housewise I was 53 at the time and it's it's that's a whole different you know this there's a whole different situation houseways is whatever but it's still like I was able to kind of reinvent myself in this not that I wanted even to reinvent myself but it was such an adventure and I think like for you guys I would think too like it says what an adventure you're you're having you know yeah right well everybody says did you have fun i said i had the best time i mean first of all i came away with like having a best friend are you guys really oh my god really so much yeah about we were best friends in the house yeah yeah and then we're the last two and we're like oh how's this going to work now i was going to say how see this is also the difference i think
Starting point is 00:37:02 between maybe the younger the younger kids and like like the fact that you are able to maintain that friendship even when it was down to the two of us just the two of you yeah that's tricky well i mean you know after that i was going to costa rica i we didn't see each other right you know they keep us apart and so i i did come home brokenhearted and teresa um wrote me a beautiful text message and she invited me to her wedding and you know but but but i'm just saying we got over so many things And we came out, like, I can honestly say this girl has my back for everything. She's my biggest cheerleader. I hope I'm yours.
Starting point is 00:37:44 You are my biggest cheerleader. I know. And I'm going to cry because it's like, yeah. I'm going to cry too. She is. I love her. So that was the point, you guys. The point was that you found each other.
Starting point is 00:37:54 So I feel like a winner because I came out with her. I know. I feel the same way. I mean, that's everything. I know. And now I've gone to visit her and friends and her family twice. And we went to New York together. I never thought I'd ever be in Minnesota, Minneapolis in my life.
Starting point is 00:38:09 And I go, now I'm going again. And I keep inviting her to New Jersey. I am going to come. And she hasn't taken me up on my invitation. Oh, can you blame her. Someday. Just kidding. I live in New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:38:20 I know you do. I want to go. Just kidding. Every time, you know, then I had Bachelor in Paradise. We understand. But things are going to slow. That's good enough. We'll just face time.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Zoom date. I'll just walk you around the beaches. Well, when you're, when you do make it to New Jersey, we're going to all hang out. Oh, yeah, no, yeah. I would appreciate that later. I have to, I just have to, I can't help it. So, the Gary of it all. So, this, Gary? No. The Gary. The Gary? Yes. The Gary. Yes. The Gary. Yes. I hate to say that, but now that there's, no, I know. I didn't say you're Gary. I know, but now there's another Gary. Oh. So that's why it's like I have to differentiate between which Gary. Yes. Yes. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:04 So, so the one that we are no longer in contact with. Yeah. But, I mean, you guys feel like it's a weird thing. It's a different thing, obviously, you have very different experiences. But looking back, do you feel, you know, like it was an experience worth having, loving him? And, you know, at this point, or was it just, I hope it wasn't too heartbreaking and it was worth it. Yes, way worth it. I mean, the experience overall was amazing.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Good. He seemed like a really kind part of. person. Well, I mean, you're in a bubble. Yeah. And my experience was probably different than Teresa's, but my experience was he was very nice to me and very kind and he
Starting point is 00:39:45 you know, was very interested in what I had to say and you know, way different than any other person I've been with, but I, he laughed at my jokes. I like that. I made him laugh. I like that. So, you know, I felt like I was seen,
Starting point is 00:40:02 you know. I get that. And appreciate it, but obviously you don't know what else is going on. You don't know other conversations at all. It must have been hard to watch back. Do you get something here that we are so similar in type? You really are. That there was a reason why he chooses the top. 100%.
Starting point is 00:40:22 Yeah. Very much alike. It was hard for me. Yeah. It was hard for me to watch. Yeah. I bet. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:27 I bet that was terrible. Mm-hmm. But listen, now you're both single again together. Yeah, we're single. So I love this. The dynamic. duo. Sexy and single,
Starting point is 00:40:36 not just kidding. So, Trisa and Leslie, loved having you on. Thank you. I really appreciate having you on. I've been a fan for quite a long time now.
Starting point is 00:40:46 I mean, I'm telling you, like when the show when it first happened, I was thrilled. I was just, I felt like finally. And then, you know,
Starting point is 00:40:53 seeing women like you and that are, I don't know, I'm not going to get too sappy. Yeah. But women that, and again, I'm 57, we're not far apart.
Starting point is 00:41:02 Yeah. But I just, I'm watching, even a little bit ahead of myself and seeing what there is, not just look forward to, but you're so vibrant and so youthful. And that's the thing about the young people watching us. They come up to me daily and say, you make growing old look okay. Yeah. You know, because when you're young, sometimes you don't think about it, but then it creeps in your head, like in your 30s and young, you know, whatever. And that is for me, my biggest, I just love that. I love being able to, you know,
Starting point is 00:41:32 motivate younger people to, you know, stay in shape and just be happy, do things and all that. Yeah. They say we're not afraid to get old anymore. Yeah. That's so rewarding. I do love that. The best part of this whole thing. The friendships, meeting all these people who come up to us, it's wonderful.
Starting point is 00:41:49 And seeing, like, imagine what life has to offer, right? Like the adventures to follow. I mean, I'm taking a random guess here, but I just think for some reason that you, my friend, Teresa, are going to end up on Batchez in Paradise one day. Oh, I just see it. I know. Just see it. Just saying.
Starting point is 00:42:04 All right, guys. So, anyway, so again, thank you, love you both. Thank you, John. Thank you so much, Jen. So check out Bachelor in Paradise. And it is on Monday nights on ABC and streaming on Hulu. So do you have dating horror stories you want to share? Call us, email us.
