In the 1980s, modeling wasn't just a dream.
It was a battlefield.
It's a freaking war zone.
These people are animals.
The Model Wars podcast peels back the glossy cover and reveals us.
The high-stakes game where survival meant more than beauty.
Hosted by me, Vanessa Gregoriatis, this is the untold story of an industry built on ruthless ambition.

This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcast with IHart Radio.
Hey, everyone, welcome back to the Almost Famous Podcast.
It is Ashley here today.
We're in San Francisco with the IHR team here for a Jonas Brother concert.
That is how Amy Sugarman got me here.
She knew.
Amy's like, Ashley hasn't been to the West Coast.
So our podcast producer Amy Sugarman, who our listeners have been aware of for a long time,
she doesn't fly.
She hasn't flown since 1999.
We love us.
So we, so we know.
So we drive.
So we, she drives and we have to do like all of our things on the West Coast.
And then she was like, man, Ashley, mom of two.
hasn't been to do this for quite some time.
How do we get her to come?
Jonas Brother Crosser.
And I was like, yes, 1,000 percent quick as yes she's ever gotten.
And I am now joined by two of everybody's golden favorites, Susan Knowles and Kathy Schwartz.
You guys, well, you know them from the Golden Bachelor.
You know Kathy from, well, being a Golden and Bachelor in Paradise.
And they both host the Golden Hour podcast.
I know you guys just finished wrapping up your recap of the first episode of the golden, the new golden.
Yeah.
A little bit.
Good times with now.
Okay, quick, quick first impressions from both of you, Susan.
Oh, go first.
I was not on his side, but I am now.
Okay.
I'm not sure.
Fair enough.
I think that the women are great.
The women, that's a whole other story.
He seems like, not like the most charming human in the entire world.
He is handsome.
He's got a look, but he was humble.
It's not my personal look either.
And he's begging for forgiveness and give him a chance.
So you got it.
You have to.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, we're human.
Yeah.
I think the women are fabulous.
They all have lots of hair.
They're young.
Cassie swear, they have extensions.
I'm like, you know, they can wear bikinis.
Like, I just want to be one of them.
they're not golden they're not golden they're not golden if we're really get down to brass
age okay okay what is golden to you if you don't mind me asking well it's always 60 plus that's like our
definition as a franchise right i thought golden meant 65 65 it was security is golden it was supposed
to be 65 but you know what's five years yes well the way our crew was but they started it was
it was supposed to be 65 and then they lowered and here's my thing I think the women of fab is I think
they're young they're talented um i think uh i can't wait to see how the season develops because
i think that they have the benefit of watching having watched our season so some of them i think
are there for the right reason some of them are there to build their social media platforms and their
businesses and do you have a problem with that no i'm just we didn't know what social media was i didn't
know what an influencer was or a collaborator i was like you guys are like pretty much golden influencers i think
now but we didn't come on
that's what they asked us when we meet them
how did you I go I don't know
yeah that's what the women want to know
how did you kind of turn this into a career
because now both of you are immediate
personality yes
well and I gotta say on Mel
I've said from the get go
he said something stupid
yeah you know he is he's right
he is gonna have to earn it back but you know what
I'm gonna cut him some grace because
give him some grace because
he doesn't know what he's in for
You know what I'm saying?
He's got some lots of beautiful women
and he might really want a woman
between 40 and 60 until he meets this crowd
and now I think he's like, whoa.
There are some hot talented women.
So that's a good message.
As I said this morning,
how many times have I or you opened your mouth
and inserted your foot?
My foot grids in my mouth.
What we said?
Like you got to give him a break.
That's so true.
Me included.
What do you guys think about like
him as a lead versus Gary as a leg?
and day. Listen, if there could have been one more on his season. In fact, I'm still thinking I can
go meet him and swoop him away. If you just, you know, it's not too late to break him up.
I can talk about Mel? I'm certainly not talking about Gary. I know you aren't. I love the
fact that you guys are so honest about the fact that like Gary, like after you guys depart from the show
is just like not the hottest. Let me just break this down actually really quickly. You can have a lawyer
a football player, a guy who can string together
sentences, or you can go pick cotton in a corn maze
in Indiana. I don't know. What do you want to do?
Wait, did you know when we were, finally, they didn't let us know
to the last minute when we were on the show.
Who he was going to be. And then he's announced, my phone was
blowing up and my friends are, are you still going? I go, that's mean.
You know, my daughter said, my daughter said, Mom, I've known you my
whole life, you really think you're moving to Indiana.
it's never happening.
Yeah, well, I had the same thing with crystals.
They're like, you aren't moving to Iowa to live on a cornfield.
Right.
And then, well, you're in the Bachelor bubble and you're like, I could totally live on a
cornfield.
Yeah.
No, no, I never said that.
But you guys weren't mature enough to know that you couldn't.
It's not going to happen.
Nope, I'll eat corn on the cod.
That's as close as I want to get to a cornfield.
Thank you very much.
And then the girls in our room saying, he called that a lake.
It's a pond.
Remember?
Yeah.
He says he lives on a lake.
It's like.
Like a swan boat paddle wheel thing.
I just love obsessed with how you do not care.
We love them.
We love them.
We're good friends.
But hey, it is what it is.
I don't love him anymore.
I'm always stuck at me.
No, he's perfectly fine.
He's got a new girlfriend.
Actually, I wish him all the best.
Her name is Lana, not Lana.
Lana.
They look alike.
They look alike.
They do.
They look alike.
Okay.
That's what the people say that you end up with people that you look like.
Oh, God, I'm in trouble.
My husband looks like me.
People say, and I probably agree.
I don't think I look like Frederique at all.
How is your new relationship going?
That's great.
Great.
He's at my house.
Oh, nice.
No, I'm here.
He's doing the dishes, mowing the lawn, just wherever good man should be, serving his woman.
It's a long-distance relationship, so how's that going?
It's difficult at times.
Yeah, he was in an island?
Yes, St. Martin.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, I'm happy for you.
Now it's Kathy's turn.
to get a man.
Kathy, we need like a spin-off show with you
where you date people.
You know, why aren't you on a Ben spin-off
where he has people?
We planned the show for both of us
to travel the world and find somebody.
Directors, producers, directors, producers,
where is the show for Kathy to find love?
I don't know.
Was there somebody that you want to show up to Paradise
who didn't come?
Oh, yes, there was.
I mean, anybody.
Yeah.
I mean, listen, anybody with an IQ over 90, preferably over six feet, no, I mean, there was
nobody from Jones season.
So nobody from Jones season that you wanted.
You wanted people to come from outside the franchise.
Yeah.
Maybe somebody that applied for the job, you know what I mean, the show.
I just, I want someone, you know, I'm not asking for that much.
I want someone who will accept me for who I am.
I'm not everyone's cup of tea.
But like, I live life and I enjoy life.
want someone who wants to enjoy life with me as long as he's not living on social security
too long so like in paradise it almost felt like they didn't really set you guys up for like
romantic success they didn't really you know there wasn't enough of you for sure
it was impossible when we got there many of us thought that they were they were going to bring
in other goldens or other people that had applied when they didn't and i knew keith um i
I knew all those guys because they'd been on our podcast.
I'd met them at different eye heart events.
So I knew them.
You were like, I already eliminated these guys.
You are in the reject pile.
Yeah.
You know, your resume is in the circular file.
So, but Keith is a great guy and we were friends.
And it was never going to be more than that.
He's a great guy, but no.
What about where you guys were in the pool together?
Was it ever, like, could you've ever gotten, like, 40?
There wasn't a moment.
Not even a nanosecond.
I mean, I got to tell you when April started making out with Jack, I thought I was going
to lose my lunch.
And not because, I mean, April and Jack, that's like, what's like Mickey Mouse with, I
don't know, it's just like, no, Jessica Rabbit.
Yeah, exactly.
I mean, anyway, so no, there was never a moment where I thought, now, if you'd give
me enough alcohol or drugs.
That's what I mean?
Like, would you ever have enough alcohol?
You still wouldn't.
You're right.
Not enough alcohol.
Now, if you, like, you know, a.
two bagger they were you know maybe i no never okay just n o but i love him but no let's get back
into this episode um stand out girls to you uh well it's so funny going through my bracket i had
maya Maya Maya as um yeah i had her winning a winning she made and she gets eliminated roast
ceremony number one also uh Sandra's sister stunting what's her name onre
Andra and Sondra, how can you...
Gorgeous.
Why was she eliminated?
She's...
Can I be honest?
She's 77.
77.
And she looks like...
She looks 57.
Yeah.
Sandra did too.
Sondra doesn't look 75.
Yeah.
I mean, I just don't think, regardless, we all accept Mel's apology.
We all want the best.
But I don't see Mel, unfortunately, our culture, I don't see a 66-year-old going for a 77-year-old.
I just don't see it.
But did he even know her age?
because she didn't look at obviously
and I don't know.
I mean, who knows why she went home?
I guess like it's just one of those situations
like I always refer to grocery store Joe.
Everybody thought he's the most charming, cute, handsome guy.
How did Becca eliminate him night one?
And then you hear that she was like,
no, you guys don't understand.
There was so little chemistry.
Like we just couldn't keep a conversation.
So no matter how cute somebody can be,
you just like, it's not there.
Trust me, the older you get, that becomes, like, you know, right off the back.
Chemistry's a lot of work.
Yeah, a lot of work.
I'm Jorge Ramos.
And I'm Paola Ramos.
Together we're launching The Moment, a new podcast about what it means to live through a time, as uncertain as this one.
We sit down with politicians.
I would be the first immigrant mayor in generations, but 40% of New Yorkers,
were born outside of this country.
Artists and activists, I mean, do you ever feel demoralized?
I might personally lose hope.
This individual might lose the faith.
But there's an institution that doesn't lose faith.
And that's what I believe in.
To bring you depth and analysis from a unique Latino perspective.
There's not a single day that Paola and I don't call or text each other,
sharing news and thoughts about what's happening in the country.
This new podcast will be a way to make that ongoing intergenerational
conversation, public.

My resiliency score.
My grit.

All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie.
For almost a decade, the murder of an 18-year-old girl from a small town in Graves County, Kentucky.
went unsolved, until a local homemaker, a journalist, and a handful of girls, came forward
with a story.
I'm telling you, we know Quincy Kilder, we know.
A story that law enforcement used to convict six people, and that got the citizen investigator
on national TV.
Through sheer persistence and nerve, this Kentucky housewife helped give justice to Jessica
Curran.
My name is Maggie Freeling.
I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.
producer, and I wouldn't be here if the truth were that easy to find.
I did not know her and I did not kill her, or rape or burn or any of that other stuff that
you all said.
They literally made me say that I took a match and struck and threw it on her.
They made me say that I poured gas on her.
From Lava for Good, this is Graves County, a show about just how far our legal system will go

Hey, I'm Jay Chetty, and I'm the host of the on-purpose podcast.
Today, I'm joined by Emma Watson.
Emma Watson.
Emma Watson has apparently quit acting.
Emma Watson has announced she's retiring from acting.
Has anyone else noticed that we haven't seen Emma Watson in anything in several years?
Emma Watson is opening up the truth behind her five-year break from acting.
Watson said she wasn't very happy.
Was acting always something you were going to do?
I was using acting.
a way of escaping to feel free.
My parents, it wasn't just the divorce,
it was just like the continuing situation
of living between two different houses
and two different lives
and two different sets of values,
the career and the life that looks like the dream.
But are you really happy?
Fame has given me this extraordinary power.
It's also given me a lot of responsibility.
Listen to On Purpose with Jay Chetty
on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast,
or wherever you get your podcast.
cause we both thought kathy and i have spoken off the mic and said that well carol is a big
favorite of ours love her and then cindy is a baby loves cinds to me cindy seems like the
winner it's she seems like she's getting the winner at it she and um yeah oh who he had the one-on-one
with uh Cheryl Cheryl yes they seem like they could be like getting the top two edit
And I think that Carol, I mean, she's definitely got young energy.
She looks great.
Here's the thing about Peg.
And I said this to you off my head.
And Pegg isn't the running for sure.
Peg, when she comes in in her outfit and her, here's the thing about Peg.
She is a bomb squad firefighter.
My son's a firefighter.
Like, it takes a lot of punch and a lot of.
And so when she was like, these women are all so chatty, chatty, chatty, chat.
She's not going to put up with crap from anybody.
I guarantee you.
She's either going to go so far
or he's going to say,
nope, she's too much for me.
She'll be out of the conversation that they had.
She was on point.
So are you retired?
Because I want a man that's going to spend time with me.
It was like she was the lead.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
I love it.
I'm telling you, she's like, the fire is burning.
Where's the fire?
Let's go.
Let's go.
I like it.
Anybody else that you think we need to talk about?
I mean, Nicole was also, she looks great,
but she is possibly an Instagram.
climbing the tree
she was climbing. City from
Austin says wow
when she was in the push goes on and she was like
climbing him like a tree. I
personally not that you know anyone cares
I think as a golden
like I'd like to set a little bit
better example and so I know
you know take your shot
a little more tasteful. A little more tasteful you don't
have to be macing on him
from the get-go and calling him
her husband like come
on and for him to tell her i think that we should cool it you know they're in the pool i was like
is he going to eliminate her i was like he's not because she he thinks she's hot but he is a man
yeah like he's a guy but like i don't think he liked that at all he was like well jill jerry
she was another standout yep she's like great connection she seems smart woman she's smart
she's wonderful her story her story some great stories are women who've taken care of
of single-handedly raised children, taking care of mothers in their older years. I mean,
these women have woven very rich fabrics. Their lives are very rich, richly. We haven't heard too
much about Robin yet. I hope she's placed more. Just having the winery. Robin has a winery
and napar. I'm going to become her new best friend. Wee, Kathy. That's we. Oh my gosh. What
about Cheryl's story with the son and the ex-husband?
I wanted to kill him and took Tyson and she didn't know for a whole week.
And I want to kind of, I want to call her and say, how did you get him back after a week?
Like, I want more of that story.
I want to know.
Yeah.
I know.
I'm sure it was longer.
They had to bridge it for TV, but it was like, oh.
Oh, how did you forgive that?
And you know, the other thing I loved are the stories.
Cheryl, who had been, for 18 years, she had just raised her son and she hadn't done anything for
And she and Melah, that sweet moment of now it's our time.
And I love hearing that as a golden.
Okay.
So I have like a lot of fun questions that I want to ask you guys during our group
session, which is going to be mostly about Jonas.
But if you don't mind, can we talk about like this is really a little juicy, a little
personal?
Wait, are we talking about hormones?
Are we talking about hormones?
You guys don't exactly.
You guys don't even know what we talked about at dinner last night.
We were talking about menopause and some of the metapausal symptoms.
And I don't know how far Kathy wants to get into this.
Anything you want, I'm an open book.
Let me educate the world on menopause.
What can I help you with?
Okay.
Highly recommend something.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I actually want to talk to Kathy about dating after, I think, I think dating after a divorce like Susan and after the passing of your husband.
husband has to be different it is right so were you susan excited to get back into dating after a
divorce or you were jutting it did you even want to do it not for a while okay um took my time and
how was the first date odd yeah yes and did it evolve into anything of interest no when was the
first time you got butterflies again after a divorce a few years later okay and but i've paint the
picture for us. I've had those a few times, so I've had several relationships,
maybe two, three years. The fact that I am as old as I am, I know what I could deal with
and what I can't. And after about six months in, I told you this, Kathy, when I met this last
one, after six months, you start seeing the real, you know, the butterflies go away. And I know
the difference now. And yeah. And you know the difference. And you know that who your
with now is so far so good yeah we're past six months okay great um i was going to say like
what was the first kiss like post-divorce that guy that i went on a date with we went to golf and we
went to atlantic city actually but i didn't kiss them okay we didn't kiss so it was i can't even
count the first one so i was going to ask kathy about that because like you kind of inferred last
night that, like, you've been romantic since your husband.
Well, sexually active or romantic let's be fair.
Actually, where, how comfortable you're willing to go.
I mean, do you want names and numbers?
I don't know.
What do you need?
She's alive, of course.
Yeah.
Were you interested in ever being sexually active again after your husband?
Hello.
Let me say, here's the thing.
When my husband died, obviously, you know, the sudden death.
Yeah.
I didn't touch.
My feet didn't hit the ground, you know.
You said six months?
Yeah, more like a year.
Okay.
My first date, I think, was, and it was way too soon.
I honestly don't even remember it was 18 months after he died.
Okay.
My daughter summed it up perfectly because I got married at 20 to my husband.
I was married almost 46 years.
Yes.
That's what I don't, you guys, I just came up with this random conversation topic that I thought was, like, interesting.
Yeah.
Because I'm just like, how do you feel like being physical at all with somebody
after you've been with somebody for 46 hours?
So I will tell you that was really scary.
And you're going to laugh, but I mean it.
It's sort of like riding a bike.
You know, once you get back on the horse, whatever you want to, you know, whatever metaphor
you want to use.
But here's the thing.
Did it feel good to be kissed again?
Yeah.
But at first, it was very strange because, as my daughter said, mom, you got married.
I met my husband when I was 18.
I was married at 20.
Was that one of your first, everything?
Yes.
Yes.
Did you ever see, never have I ever, were her playing?
She did nothing.
That's me too.
I used to be like, when in college, I was like, I can't play this because it's so embarrassing
because I haven't done anything.
And now I'm like, I win.
But honestly, when my daughter said to me,
mom, you're going to, it's going to be a steep learning curfew because you didn't date in
your 20s. You didn't have multiple sex partners. You know, you just got married and I didn't
have children for the first eight and a half years that were married. But, you know, so for me,
it was literally, I had to learn how to date, learn how to flirt. All of it, it was like, I just
didn't know how to do it. And I, you know, I believe people, I took everyone at their word.
and, you know, I just, I had to learn how to do it.
Who helped you learn to do it?
Trial narrow.
It was myself.
I mean, I had a couple of girlfriends I talked to about it.
But for the most part, I had to figure it out on my own because now I know what I want.
I know what I'm willing to compromise on, what I'm not.
And it's fun now to date.
Am I still looking for that guy?
Yeah.
I got to date later with one of the Jonas brothers.
Okay, well, during our Jonah's podcast, we'll talk about, you know, like, how low would you go age-wise and all of that?
Oh, boy.
Because Joe's 36.
Oh, God.
No, see, my youngest child's 38.
I've got to draw the line somewhere.
So maybe, like, 40?
No, actually, honestly, my truth about dating is I don't really date men my own age because you've heard my thing about used to guys.
A used to guys?
What's a used to guy?
I used to play tennis.
I used to swim.
I used to ski.
Now I sit on the sofa and drink a beer.
I don't want used to guys.
Okay.
And unfortunately, there's a lot of them.
Yeah.
So you always go a little younger.
I like to date men who are younger.
I've dated some guys who are my age, but I like to go younger.
What's your best date since the loss of your husband?
Next week.
It is.
My best date, honestly, I mean, you know, I'm still looking.
And I have, I have, the guys that I've dated, there was one guy dated for a few months.
And when I broke up with him, he was shocked.
And he's like, what?
And I said, well, number one in your life is your dog.
Number two in your life is your dog.
Number three in your life is your daughter.
Fourth in your life is your computer.
And I'm a distant fifth.
So see ya.
Okay.
I mean, I just don't, that's what I'm saying.
Now I know what I'll put up with.
Have you felt butterfly?
A little
With one guy
Recently, but we'll say
Is that the next week?
We're not allowed to talk about it yet
Yeah, it's may go nowhere
Okay
It may go somewhere
Yes it is
But we're not going to say that
What's your type typically?
So I like a smart guy
I like a guy who's fit
I like a guy who will have adventures
You know he doesn't have to do everything I do
Like I'm a snow skier
He doesn't have to snow ski
But he's damn right
well, better have the drink for me
at the lodge afterwards. He better
go hiking with me, kayaking with me.
He's got to be taller than I am. I'm 5'8,
so, you know, six feet's good.
But more, it's a guy who has a sense
of enjoyment of life,
a zest for life.
I just want to report to you that the Jonas brothers
are like 5, 7 at best.
Yes, they're not going to happen. I'll make an exception.
I think we should end this here
and we'll go into all my follow-up questions
in our later episode.
You guys are so much fun.
Thank you for being here and experiencing this concert day with us.
All right.
