Starting point is 00:03:00 Welcome back to the Almost Famous Podcast We have a lot to go over today It's Ben here, Ashley's with me And we are breaking down All the latest headlines happening In Bachelor Nation, including headlines That has to deal, do associate itself with Ashley
Starting point is 00:03:18 Because she had a big weekend ahead of her, Ashley. Yeah? What's up? Oh, what's my headline for you? I don't know. Do you have headlines or should we just jump in? Yeah, I got a headline that's not on our list. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:30 So I was scrolling on my Instagram and I saw your wonderful performance of I am Ben, which was a spoof off I am Ken. Is that what it is? I am Ken. I'm just, I'm just Ken. I'm just Ken, right? So the weird thing about that video, which I thought was brilliant and absolutely hilarious, there is no context to it.
Starting point is 00:03:53 No. you guys put no overlay no caption i knowing you and seeing who is collaborating who collaborating with you on the real like i knew what it was for but i don't know why it was created tell everybody why you did this incredible broadway rendition of i'm just ben yeah it was uh it's hilarious so i hosted um a conference for four days called mom con MomCon is one of the most cheerful conferences or events, I guess, I get to do all year. It is all moms. 3,500 moms.
Starting point is 00:04:32 We were in Orlando, Florida. It's put on by an organization called MomCo, formerly Mops. It's a faith-based organization. It's a Christian organization that really gives support community groups to moms of kids. It's great. And it's in so many churches. If you're listening and you are part of a church, you probably know of mops. Now, Momko.
Starting point is 00:04:57 So I've gotten to host this since 2019. I'm like one of maybe eight dudes in the room. And this year, every year they kind of have me there to be a spoof. Like there's, you know, maybe back in the day I could pull the Bachelor card and that was cool enough. But now, you know, I'm kind of like a mascot, I think. Like it's like, Dave Ben's going to come and do something so weird and so ridiculous. And I'm going to say yes to it because one, it's fun for me to be there. Two, it's fun to make these ladies like laugh.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Three, I think like something's wrong with me where I get embarrassed over things I say in like one-on-one conversations or I get embarrassed on ways I treat people. I don't really get embarrassed by like things I do publicly. It's just not like I don't like feel a lot of like, oh, my. gosh, I cannot believe you got on stage and did that. Like, I just don't feel that. I think I'm desensitized to it, maybe. And so they, Momko, wrote a song called I'm Just Ben. It is hilarious.
Starting point is 00:06:03 It is so fun. And we worked on it. We recorded and practiced and did all this stuff for six months trying to get this nailed down. Ben, oh my gosh. Yeah, we had the Orlando Magic dancers behind me. There's a whole performance done. And so I sang I'm just bent. I'm going to try to capture and find the whole video from like start to finish of the act because it did take off more than I thought it would.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Really? That seems like the ultimate like viral video. Yeah. I mean, it should. I really want to find the whole video because it did afterwards when they shared it and I saw the responses. It was, it was awesome. If you guys had like a good overlay and caption too, it could. could have gotten further the fact that you guys just plopped it down was like wait what yeah i guess
Starting point is 00:06:58 i didn't even think about it being something that people would be intrigued by it was created for the internet like that's what that video was created for also um did you lip sync to the track i sing i sing it you sang you sang totally live well i had to lip sync some of it like when dance moves got picked up but yes okay so you sang with a track Yeah, I sing with the track. Okay, well, you sounded good. Well, that is me singing it. I know, yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Like, I knew it was you singing, but I just wasn't sure if, like, they messed with it in the studio and made you sound a little bit better. Because, like, I know what your singing voice sounds like when we go to concerts and you, like, you know. Oh, it's so bad. Yeah, it's not the greatest. And, like, you sounded good. Yeah, it's hilarious, too, that you say that because we went into a studio to kind of lay down the track. And it was one of the most, like, I was sweating. I was trying so hard.
Starting point is 00:07:52 That's nerve-wracking. I'm just not a good singer. I know that. I'm not trying to be one. And I really think, in my mind, I was like, it's okay if I'm not a good singer for I'm just Ben. But I wanted to be decent enough where people could actually, like, listen and be like, oh, all right.
Starting point is 00:08:08 It's like a spoof. It's like a parody, but it's a well-done one. Yes. Yes. It's a well-done one is what I wanted. I mean, I'll tell you one thing. There's very few things in the world that feel better than having 3,500 people just like going wild or something you did. It's fun.
Starting point is 00:08:32 I'm exhausted. It's four days of hosting this thing. It was great. I'm just so tired. Ben, I want to go next year. You can come back. I don't know if you could top that. Oh, we can find a way.
Starting point is 00:08:45 That was so clever. Yeah. And the lyrics are good. Did I send you the whole song yet? No. I'm going to send you the whole song so you can at least listen to the whole song. You're going to love the lyrics. I think you're going to really find a lot of really good Bachelor Nation puns and like innuendos and things that are part of it.
Starting point is 00:09:06 It was a blast. And the best part is Ashley, you know, this conference is full of Bachelor nation fans, full of them. Yeah. But there's also many people there that have never watched The Bachelor. has really have no idea who I am and and only know me from being a host at momcon uh over the years and so some people are coming up being like I don't know what just happened uh I don't really get it but like that was fun and I'm like all right the fact that you've been working on this for six months and never said that you're going to
Starting point is 00:09:39 do like a boy band meets Broadway performance somewhere is like a little strange but um I'm really grateful it happened yeah we yeah uh I It's honestly, I think I just didn't think about it much. But it's been stuck in my head for a long time. I can't get out of my head. It was really, really good. All right. So moving on to just the absolute opposite of the tone that we're at right now.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to kind of switch gears. Well, maybe a good segue would be. Okay, let's do a segue. You did spend the weekend with the almost famous podcast. in San Francisco
Starting point is 00:10:20 at the Jonas Brothers concert from a fan's perspective outside looking in it looked like the group of women and you just do this well you like when when you do women events with the Almost Famous podcast it feels like everybody has a really good time did you feel like everybody there had actually
Starting point is 00:10:40 like a really good time yes it was so much fun it was just like a great chemistry amongst the group we had Kathy Susan and that was the first time I spent like quality time with them they're so hilarious and then we had Daisy and Susie and Mari and I made sure that Mari was there because I know she's like on my level of Jonas fandom like she and I like truly like we do the same things like she travels for Jonas okay and I was like okay you travel for Jonas
Starting point is 00:11:16 She had said something like, after her Chicago show, she said, I'm just already figuring out how to see them next. And this was like her story the day afterward. And I texted her immediately. I was like, okay, so you come to San Francisco to be with us. So it was so great. And then my friend Courtney, who's really good friends and as the agent for Susie was there too. And we just had like the greatest girls like two days. And it was
Starting point is 00:11:45 It was wonderful I'm really really glad And I'm really thankful For our producer, Amy For putting it together Because it was a good memory It looked so much fun And I'm glad that you had that
Starting point is 00:11:59 Kind of fun And you have some great content coming out of it That we'll be sharing You know All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. For almost a decade, the murder of an 18-year-old girl from a small town in Graves County, Kentucky, went unsolved, until a local homemaker, a journalist, and a handful of girls came forward with a story. I'm telling you, we know Quincy Kilder, we know.
Starting point is 00:12:38 A story that law enforcement used to convict six people, and that got... The Citizen Investigator on national TV. Through sheer persistence and nerve, this Kentucky housewife helped give justice to Jessica Curran. My name is Maggie Freeling. I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, producer, and I wouldn't be here if the truth were that easy to find. I did not know her and I did not kill her,
Starting point is 00:13:06 or rape or burn, or any of that other stuff that y'all said. They literally made me say that I took a match and struck and threw it on her. They made me say that I pour gas on her. From Lava for Good, this is Graves County, a show about just how far our legal system will go in order to find someone to blame. America, y'all better work the hell up. Bad things happens to good people in small towns.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Listen to Graves County in the Bone Valley Feed on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And to binge the entire season at free, subscribe to Lava for Good Plus on Apple Podcasts. Hi there, this is Josh Clark
Starting point is 00:13:59 from the Stuff You Should Know podcast. If you've been thinking, man alive, I could go for some good true crime podcast episodes, then have we got good news for you. Stuff You Should Know just released a playlist of 12 of our best true crime episodes of all time. a shootout in broad daylight. People using axes in really terrible ways. Disappearances,
Starting point is 00:14:17 legendary heists, the whole nine yards. So check out the stuff you should know true crime playlist on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My name is Ed. Everyone say hello, Ed. Hello, Ed. I'm from a very rural background myself. My dad is a farmer and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear.
Starting point is 00:14:55 The 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer was? walks into a comedy club, a new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In early 1988, federal agents raced to track down the gang they suspect of importing millions
Starting point is 00:15:36 of dollars worth of heroin into New York from Asia. We had 30 agents ready to go with shotguns and rifles and you name it. But what they find is not what they expected. Basically, your stay-at-home moms were picking up these large amounts of heroin. They go, is this your daughter? I said yes. They go, oh, you may not see her for like 25 years. Caught between a federal investigation and the violent gang who recruited them, the women must decide who they're willing to protect
Starting point is 00:16:10 and who they dare to betray. Once I saw the gun, I tried to take his hand and I saw the flash of light. Listen to the Chinatown Sting on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere you get your podcasts. I always had to be so good no one could ignore me.

Starting point is 00:17:28 Visit Hotel Portofino.com to book or call 800-468.4292. you guys I have content that I'm debating whether I put out into the public okay so basically what I did was show Kathy and Susan thirst traps of Joe Jonas like if you guys know what like Jonas TikTok looks like these days I showed them this and I had them comment live on how they felt about him in their bodies and these women were were so honest and I was like I this is a rated our Instagram real if I put it together and like Jonas will either think it's absolutely hilarious or they will be flipped out what they don't they're not like into 70 year old no not that they'll be like Ashley did you really have to over sexualize a video and put it out there you know that's exactly why they're posting it though well I would post it I just have to go and edit it and I'm just like uh you know you're saying that Like, that's why Jonas is being, that's why Joe's being so sexy.
Starting point is 00:18:40 Yes. Yeah. Because he's like, I love this. Yeah. I love being viral on TikTok every day of my life. Yeah. Feels so good. Gives him something to wake up for.
Starting point is 00:18:51 There's a weird trend going on right now, Ashley. That is dangerous. And I think this is something for any listener to stay alerted to. Because I think we're seeing the start of, something that will probably be a thing for a while with AI and the ability to create imagery and videos and for us to have a hard time telling what's real and what's not. It is unfortunate. I hate every second of, and I know you do as well, Ashley.
Starting point is 00:19:25 But this weekend, I saw the article first and flipped. Oh, you did? Yes. And then it started to immediately, within seconds, kind of start to invest. and find out that it was not real, and so it was, you know, kind of fine. But then I just got frustrated. And I am frustrated still. And I know, but this isn't about me. What am I talking about? Katie Thurston cries over fake death rumors amid breast cancer battle. She said it's triggering. So there's articles and things getting posted out there right now about a couple different things. Like the mesnics are pregnant. They're not. Katie Thurston has passed away. She hasn't. We've had Katie on to talk about. her breast cancer battle, but she saw this and also was receiving text and phone calls from people about this headline. Ashley, what do we know? But I think at the start here, this is terrible. And I hope we figure out a way to stop this stuff from happening. It's, here's my problem.
Starting point is 00:20:29 People are doing it to get the clicks and they're getting the clicks. Yes. Well, it's like, I know that you and I appreciate the tabloids, you know, like Us Weekly, and I don't know Us Weekly is like Tabloid, but like People Magazine and E News. Like we appreciate them for posting our stories when we talk about them here on the podcast, you know, so I don't want to like shit on them.
Starting point is 00:20:50 But a lot of the times, on Instagram story especially, they like make so many death stories about clickbait. And it's unreal. And you know that the way they word them is so that you have to go and click the article to find out more. And it's just like, oh, it's so yucky and this was one of them one of the top but no no no but let me make clear this was not something that any of the magazines no press ran with this this was something that was on
Starting point is 00:21:17 facebook so katy saw that there was a facebook post circulating that she had passed away and um she got on instagram and she was like if anyone works at facebook or has any suggestion on what i can do um there's just people circulating a fake obituary out there and she just you know she said please report these people they suck this is so triggering and Katie ended up making like a
Starting point is 00:21:48 she did have a sense of humor about it the next day she posted herself as an angel on her Instagram saying like hi it's Katie me from the other side but that was after she got on Instagram just really crying on screen just being like this is so, so upsetting. I'm getting DMs from people and they're, well, she took a few days off
Starting point is 00:22:13 social media because she just said she needed it. And because she took the break, that's why people started DMing her and stuff. Like, are you okay? Yeah. I'm worried about your silence. And then I guess that turned into this post on Facebook. And it was just like a, just a crazy, hectic moment for her. And obviously like just the most upsetting thing you could ever see about your. herself. Yeah. It's just, and, you know, I think there is a level where personally it's added to it because of what she's battling. And probably it is triggering fears that she's probably had to process and think about as she's battling. It's disgusting, but we're playing into it here at the Almost Famous Podcasts. We're talking about these articles. I think this will be probably
Starting point is 00:23:03 and hopefully the first and only time we bring any attention to this, but we wanted to bring attention to it because Katie was so affected by it that I think it's good for us to share. But don't click on this stuff. But then again, how are you supposed to know when it's real and what? It's not real. Yeah, I know. Well, switching gears to other news.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Peter Krause is expecting first child with fiancé Hannah. I know. This is so excited. thing. We're so happy for them. Congratulations, guys. They wrote on a post, new chapter, Best Chapter, one week after our engagement. We got the surprise of our lives. And they said, God's plans are perfect and our heart is full of gratitude. Angel baby coming this March. God is so, so, so good. Hashtag 14 weeks. So, yeah, it's so amazing that they found out they're pregnant right after the engagement. It was like meant to be timing-wise.
Starting point is 00:24:03 It says Angel Baby. I'm not going to read into that. That's their own business. But we're really happy for them. Yeah. We're so, I mean, you know, when we had them on the show, there was zero doubt that he was madly in love, right? And he was going to propose.
Starting point is 00:24:19 He said, like, by the end of the year, and now they're having a kid by basically the end of the year. Congratulations to the two of them. Now, interesting headline. I was noticing this. I just happen to also be able to get answers to some of these questions, maybe in a different way than listeners can. But I was wondering why we haven't seen the Golden Bachelorette's Chalk and Joan seen together in any social media or public appearances. And Joan has been out there, or Chalk has been out there at a few events.
Starting point is 00:24:52 And we just don't see Joan by his side. The quote is they haven't seen each other for nearly a month. Why? It's pretty easy to explain. And he said to e-news, right now I can't go into any details, hint, hint, but she's doing a special project and we haven't seen each other for almost a month. Something's probably going to change pretty soon. So we'll see each other, but we do miss each other right now.
Starting point is 00:25:17 I wonder if there is a Bachelor Nation type show being filmed that she could be a part of. Yeah, it could be, like maybe on HDTV or something. It would be interesting if maybe she was a part of that. I don't really want to spoil who we know. is filming that HGTV show, but they got a really good cast. They did get a really good cast. Yeah, I think they have.
Starting point is 00:25:40 They have a cast of incredible people. I think they want the show to be a success. And I'm happy for them. HGTV needs a pick-me-up. I like HGTV. I want it to exist. I just don't also understand how somebody can be gone for a month doing this show. But that's, you know what?
Starting point is 00:25:59 I'm happy for him. then if they could have a second season I don't know what they would recreate but hopefully you'd be part of it if you'd want to be if I'd want to be right we'd have an interview a few weeks ago with Alex and Andrew from Paradise
Starting point is 00:26:18 they're a cute couple Bachelor Nation fell in love with them they get along great and they get each other's senses of humor and I really like to follow them together Well, this week we saw an Instagram post where Alex gets a tattoo, she says, of boyfriend Andrew Spencer's birthday, which would be a big step. Yeah, they're not there yet, or she might mentally be or in her heart, but she's not like going to do that to him yet. they have only known each other since May. So
Starting point is 00:26:56 she said, we're going to go get a tattoo together, but we can't just make it a normal session. I'm going to prank him and the tattoo artist is in on it. I'm going to pretend that I'm going to get his birthday tattooed on me and we're going to see his reaction. Alex then, you know,
Starting point is 00:27:12 she shows him and then she reveals to Andrew that like, it's just a prank, just joking. And then apparently he had like a huge sigh of relief and he was like oh my god this is insane but okay that's that what was his like original reaction to her doing that and then he found out and it was fake and he was like oh okay all right move um the what she did tattoo on her said zero one 20 20 who's birthday was this before okay wait why oh they went to just go
Starting point is 00:27:44 it wasn't for their birth okay i thought that maybe they were getting a tattoo on his actual birthday but no they're just getting their first set of tattoos together so Alex um she put 0-1-20-95 forever and people loved having you know this this joke out on instagram it was good you know it's interesting um i will be with jessica for the rest of my life um i think if she said hey ben would you get my birthday tattooed on you i'd be like well yeah but why um sure but like i don't i don't necessarily know why i would that's cool i guess would you get jared's birthday tattooed on you i would rather have something that was like more meaningful to him than his birthday because he like he doesn't give a crap about his birthday like
Starting point is 00:28:40 i understand that like it's the day that he came into this world and obviously that's huge for both of us. Sure. But I would like honestly, in his name, rather do like his favorite Rob Thomas lyrics. Okay. That'd be like something that really spoke to him on like a deeper level. I mean, that would be sweet. I know Jessica and I are going to get like shared tattoos here soon.
Starting point is 00:29:05 I'm not going to share what yet. But I know we're going to. We haven't planned when she's done breastfeeding to do that. And I'm excited for that. I watched this video I was actually surprised with how calm maybe
Starting point is 00:29:21 it would be the word Andrew seemed when she shared this like he was like okay like me yeah that's fine I mean how else is he supposed to react like freaked out but yeah maybe maybe
Starting point is 00:29:34 he's just like the sweetest like go with the flow guy though he like smiles and laughs at everything I wonder if do we know if Greg and Victoria still have their shared tattoos? Oh, my God. Why would they do that?
Starting point is 00:29:49 Remember? I do vaguely remember that. That's so wild. Like, chow or something on their arms? I wonder. It's so ridiculous. All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. For almost a decade, the murder of an...

We had 30 agents ready to go with shotguns and rifles and you name it.
Starting point is 00:33:37 But what they find is not what they expected. basically your stay-at-home moms were picking up these large amounts of heroin. They go, is this your daughter? I said yes. Starting point is 00:36:17 This is new to me. So, Ashley, what's going on? So what happened with Claire is back when she had the breast implants and she had the breast implant poisoning, is that what they call it? She got those things out like three years ago and she's been such an advocate for getting breast implants out because of just all the effects that they had on her body. and one of the effects were these rashes that she would get and so she'd get these steroid creams and now she has topical steroid withdrawal which means that like she's just you know imagine a rash is nothing compared to what she is dealing with and it doesn't just affect your skin It's actually a mitochondrial dysfunction, she says.
Starting point is 00:37:05 So it ends up affecting your cells on the deepest level. And this facility in Mexico, they treat you as stem cells, which is amazing for it. She said the brutal truth about this withdrawal is that right now there's no pill, no cream, no lotion that can heal the condition. And for many, it can take years of pain and uncertainty without finding relief. She's like, I cannot just wait and like let this. pass me by. I want to give my body every chance that it can to heal. So she's been just being doing, she's been proactive. She was down in Mexico at this place. It's like 15 minutes from the border. She flew into San Diego and was there like a half an hour later. And she said that
Starting point is 00:37:46 what they're doing down there is so fantastic for this. And it's just something that she wanted to do. And it was a week away from her family. And we wanted to have her come to the Jonas concert and do those interviews with us all we were there but she wasn't able to get a sitter so hopefully we'll be able to get her on soon to talk about all of this it's one of the reasons that she said that she was like putting filters on her face obsessively um on instagram a couple months ago she was like yeah i'm not showing my face because like it doesn't look the way that you guys know what to look and i'm really actually insecure about this yeah let's get her on talk more about this uh that's all the headlines we
