This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcast with IHart Radio.
This is the Almost Famous Podcast, Ben here, joined with Lauren and Chad and Lizzie from the Game of Roses also, the authors of How to Win the Bachelor,
we have been discussing the real housewives of Rhode Island
go back and listen to the first part if you haven't
we're going to pick up the second part right now
you two would be the experts of this and this is
kind of off the cuff I'm curious
would it be a good career move for Kelsey to go on the bachelor right now
or is the bachelor below
where she's at with housewives
God I mean this opens a whole can of worms doesn't it
but to be the bachelorette
I think it would be worth it, but I wouldn't go on as a player.
Yeah.
Going into, I mean, look, you see what's been happening over the past,
even like last three or four years.
Nobody who goes into The Bachelor gets any kind of a following coming out of it.
And now you've got a whole season that got scuttled.
And all those dudes who were on Taylor Frankie Paul's season are like trying to make their social media.
Tees, maybe they're going to release this season.
There's no way they're releasing that season.
Their entire effort in terms of that is wasted.
Are they going to release it?
I think they release a season.
How?
They will.
I don't think they care.
I think it's the question of, I don't know if they have an option.
I think it gets released very soon, in fact.
What?
With no fanfare?
They're not going to promote it.
Just Hulu?
Yeah, I think they just put it out there on Hulu and say.
Oh, my God.
Yeah.
It's actually, it kind of to me, and I always get in trouble with The Bachelor now,
but I'm confused.
I'm confused on this whole.
promotion of the contestants
because it feels very like thirsty to me,
very, I think it turns off
most of the viewers that would tune in
because they're like, this is,
these guys are acting like celebrities.
And here's the truth of the matter, if we're honest.
Very few people who actually even become a lead
of this show become celebrities
or that well known for that long.
And contestants specifically, we have a few.
Ashley is a great example of this.
Some people write,
rise way to the top.
But I think it's very weird to see a bunch of people
who season has not been released
act like they are celebrities right now.
And I don't think it's their fault.
I think the show is almost like pushing this
to make us go, we have to watch these cool guys
who dance in TikToks on TV.
Well, one of them is going to be your next bachelor.
And I think that's why they're doing it.
That season's going to start shooting in October
and it's going to air in January,
at least from everything that I've heard.
And so they have to get some of those guys out in front of us in some capacity
where it's going to be like, here's your next bachelor.
And we're all like, who is this fucking guy?
Yeah.
You know, it's, I don't know who it's going to be from the kind of like top four guys.
They're all kind of in contention at this point.
And I think even the ring winner is in contention at this point.
We'll see.
But I just don't know, like, that franchise is in such disarray.
I feel so bad for Scott Teddy, the guy who's the showrunner now,
because he had just this huge opportunity
and then through no fault of his own
just through circumstance really
the whole season gets scuttled.
I'm very curious to see what happens
to the franchise moving forward.
They obviously need a big reset.
But yeah, I don't know why they're allowing
these guys to come out.
I mean, part of it too, I think,
is maybe to silence them a little bit.
They don't want these guys
who feel like they got f***ed over
to be going on podcasts and tell us what really happened and all that.
They're going to do a TikTok if they don't let them do that.
That's good point.
Yeah, I saw two of the guys are on vacation with two well-known Bachelorette contestants.
Did you see this?
Maria and Rachel with Shane and someone else.
And I wonder if that's like orchestrated.
Like how did this happen?
I want to say he's on another show with Maria.
The mafia or something?
Oh, they're your, the mob.
Your heart media person just put it in a hotel.
It's funny that those videos are.
so much more cringe when the season hasn't come out yet, even though all the guys always
release group videos after the season, but people are like, oh, no, we want you to be influencers
after. They only want to choose the people who are there for the right reasons to be influencers.
It's a thing Love Island is going through, too, where it's like they got criticized for having
too many influencers last season, and this season they're fewer followers, but it's like, they're just
pre-influencers. They're all going to the same place.
Let's run through some of the characters from the Housewives. I think for you guys do so many
things terrifically, but one of the things you do is really understand the character play
of a reality show. Joellen is a character on this show that is mysterious to, I believe,
Lauren and I, because we don't know if her in terms of,
intentions are bad or good.
We also don't know actually how friendly she is with any of these girls.
Like, I haven't yet been convinced that she's that close with any of them.
What do you mean? Liz is her best friend.
Yeah.
So take me through your read on Joellen because she is an anomaly this season for us here.
I think she's definitely a reality star.
As whoever said in that last toast, you have the.
charisma, but I felt so confused by the fight between her and Liz. I was like, I really have
no idea what is going on here. In my estimation, she's kind of like the shipper. She understands
at least the construction of a reality show very well that like if I have a certain narrative
or in this case, like certain specific information like with the rule of video, I'm going to use
that to basically center myself in whatever the big A.
story is. And I think, in my opinion, that's kind of how she's playing the entire game. It's like,
how do I insert myself? And so when a fight presents itself, like with Liz, she's not going to back
down from that. Let's give the fucking fight people want to see. I think like, I don't know what her real
relationship is to any of these players, but I think she's phenomenal at, uh, with her understanding of like,
what is required in an ensemble reality performance to always be in the big scenes. Like that fight scene that
they all did at the dinner table at the sparkly party was so amazing i couldn't believe what sparkly
party what sparkly party uh the studio 60 oh right the studio 54 where they they sat in like a i don't
know some fancy room that had like yes a thing of armor um i loved that that fight and you have the
spouses like getting involved and I was obsessed with Joe Jo Allen's husband in that scene
it was like the most mob like I'm threatening you don't with my wife's situation and I thought
that was quite attractive especially sitting next to Torpey Brian.
Damn get him.
Brian can't strayed.
Brian like I'm like what is going to come out of his mouth next?
every single sentence, I'm like, what in the fuck?
Like, when he was like, I don't know if this is middle age or or the pills I'm on.
Or hormones or testosterone or the GLP1 or the, yeah, it's so so bad.
But I also would be so depressed if they didn't show up for season two because he is the best player, honestly,
because nothing has ever come out of his mouth that I agree with.
Yeah, I mean, he's interesting.
I would say in terms of the fighting and stuff, my favorite moment from the entire season,
was everything that centered around slam pig.
The use of the term, the sash, the painting of slam pig.
They really, like, I think understood in the moment that it was said that, okay, we can get some
mileage out of this.
And all the players seemed, or at least a handful of them, were on board, not even just the
ones affected by it.
There was, you know, wasn't it Joellen who made this slam pig painting?
I love the slam pig painting.
Joellen also, like, you know she's smart because she shot that scene with her mom to,
So she's gotten her like tragic backstory.
Yeah, her PTC is dark.
Yeah, really brutal.
And involving the sister and there's hints that like overlap with the sister.
Yeah, I think she's a great, great time.
There's like hints of sibling stuff and hints of the mob behind like every scene.
We got incest, the mob.
Yeah, you're right.
I've kind of forgot about the whole thing with like the jokes about the sister.
and her husband and them hanging out at one point in high school
or whenever that did exist.

There's also the character I want to move on to next is Alicia.
Alicia is, to me, very endearing in the sweetest ways.
And I think I would pull my hair out if I sat at a dinner table long enough with, like, her,
because I'd be like, you don't see the world the same way.
I think most people see the world.
And that's great because you live in this beautiful innocence.
That's fantastic.
I just, like, there was so many moments.
So I was like, snap out of it or like look around.
But the topic all like season was the home,
uh,
that she was homeless.
I think,
uh,
the proper term nowadays is she was without a home as a child.
But this kind of flows through the season and it obviously causes some big
fights,
uh,
through the Liz and Joellen scenario.
What,
what's your take on this?
And I guess,
Alicia in general, does she know what she's saying? Does she mean what she's saying? Or is she just
so good at this by being herself that we're endeared to her forever?
I don't think you could write like the stuff that Alicia is saying. Like every, there's so many
gems out of her mouth. I completely underestimated her in episode one. I was like, who was that?
And then by the end, I was like, oh, she's up there for my favorite.
It's like the toast for the whole summer is
Bitches love a summer
And people and that is transcending like people who don't even watch Bravo.
It's just bitches love a summer.
And I'm so happy for her.
But yeah, going back to the homelessness thing,
I want to know from like a game perspective from you guys
Is what Liz was doing just part of the game trying to save her ass
And like should she have saved her ass if she was a good player?
You're talking about in terms of Alicia saying that she was
homeless and Liz is like, you were never homeless.
Correct. Yeah. Sorry, that's how I hear Liz in my head.
You were never homeless.
I mean, I think.
Buddy, buddy is my. It's so hard
to like pinpoint who is kind of like overplaying
certain, like that is a PTC, what we call
a personal tragedy card. And there were many good ones played this season.
That was hers. And I think if you're competing with like a Joe
Ellen and you know what that PTC is going to be, you have to elevate yours.
So maybe you don't really have one that's on that level, but you're going to say you do.
And now I was homeless.
And then, of course, Liz is going to be like, no, you weren't you.
You can't play that PTC, basically.
She's denying the play of that, saying that is not even accurate.
All that said, I think what you get out of Alicia is somebody who is able to elevate regular situations and regular play styles to the next level.
Like in the end, the proposal, it's like, by comparison, that's the tamest fucking story.
in the entire season.
You've got a guy getting,
can arrested for putting a tracking device
on his wife's car.
You've got everybody's cheating
on everybody with everybody,
you know,
and hers is,
I want you to propose to me again.
And it works.
He makes the little,
the heart thing,
and he does the proposal,
and you, like,
feel so good about that moment.
It's like,
oh, she finally got her proposal.
And she even makes a joke,
like, oh, in 10 more years,
I'll get my name on the house
or whatever, you know,
something like that.
She just has,
there's something about her.
And some reality players have this.
Ashley has this.
They are just like watchable.
Whatever they're doing, you're fascinated, you're riveted by it.
And she has that ability to just kind of elevate seemingly normal shit into like,
whoa, this is a crazy moment.
And that's a, it's rare.
Do you think that Alicia's going to actually get married or is that going to be a storyline
for season two?
Do you think they're going to get married?
Yeah, season two.
That wedding will be one of the places we see some of the biggest fights, I assume.
There'll be a crack a table.
Yeah.
I mean, I love the cracker thing because that is like you're already setting up what your SpongCon can be.
She can do crackers.
She can do fudgicles or.
Yes, yes, yes.
Just constantly like setting up SponCon opportunities for herself.
Did you?
So, um, PTC.
So Ashley didn't have a PTC.
And so she just kind of said, I have nothing, but I'm scared of my family's going to die.
Did you think that was the right move?
because I was like, Ashley, when I watched it,
I was so embarrassed for her.
And I was like, you could have just made up,
you could have said your OCD was worse than it actually is.
Or, you know, you needed something.
Why did you say nothing?
But I guess, was that the right play?
I don't think so.
And that was, we've seen other players in Bachelor have that same thing.
We saw Kelly Flanagan had that in season 24, Bachelor.
I don't have a sob story, she said.
Well, make one up.
When you're, you're sitting at that table
and basically like that at the entire event
is what we would call a circle of pain
where each player is required
to play a PTC.
You don't necessarily have to do it,
but she could have done this.
This is what I would have done if I was her.
I would have said, look,
I come from another reality franchise.
I was on reality TV before any of you guys,
and it put in me a distrust
of anybody that I'm in a situation like this with.
And so coming into this situation,
I didn't know what to expect,
but I knew I couldn't trust any of you,
but now I've been here for a while
and I've gotten to know you and you're literally my best friends.
You're the closest people to me in my life.
So that my PTC is like you've helped me overcome my distrust of being in a situation like
this and I feel like I can tell you anything.
Something like that.
I would go one step further and say that the Bachelor exploited her virginity and like she was
in this unrequited thing with Jared for so long.
They gave her a really weird edit in Bachelor in Paradise that one season when they came back
to the boom boom room.
Yeah. She has real
ones that she could use. But I mean, you're on the
spot, you're playing against these
mammoth players.
I love the combination of those too.
Yeah, yeah. A lot of people
in the comments, like on TikTok and things
are saying like, no, I get it. I get it.
I understand what she's saying like someone's going to die.
It's going to be awful one day, blah, blah, blah.
But yeah, yeah, the virginity thing is definitely
something she could have said. Also, she never
feel sexy because of that because people always treated her like this just throwaway virgin which also like in turn made her very like not confident in some ways.
So like you have a lot of things you could work with there.
But either way, what we got from that scene was the mask and we were pleased.
I'll take it.
It was so crazy because I was like, oh, what kind of mask is actually going to have?
And then I saw that one that was like, oh, they fucked her hardcore.
This is terrible.
It's brilliant.
I loved every second of it.
It was so good because she was looking so pretty.
You know, she spent hours on her makeup.
She had this beautiful dress.
And they give her a full face mask because there's wonderful television to watch.
I loved it.
Wait, whose team were you guys on with Kelsey Rosie?
Are you Rosie?
Well, I'm a little biased there.
I love Rosie.
Yeah.
I mean, I think there were moments where I switched back.
and forth overall, especially like episodes one through, what, five, I was very much team Rosie.
I was like, Kelsey is just bowling this girl up and down. And then the fight at the house
made me switch. I thought Rosie went a little too far.
Slam pig. Yeah. I think there was a lot of anger over a joke that was not funny,
but it made it, it was enough of a joke where you're like, okay, whatever, she's trying. She's trying to
connect here. And then the rest of the season, honestly, it was pretty tame outside of Audrey's
coffee shop. They kind of came back together and it wasn't a story to remember. The interesting
side of Real Housewives to me is that these storylines exist outside of the show now and they'll
exist in season two. But the big controversies came with Kelsey going on interviews and still talking about
things and, you know, criticizing Ashley, criticizing Rosie, criticizing some of these people.
and then you're like, okay, I cannot wait to watch where this comes back up in season two.
With The Bachelor, it's kind of end of the chapter done, everybody moves on.
You might follow the couple for the couple months that they're together,
and then you forget about them.
But with this, you're like still following it, waiting for it to air on our televisions.
And that's different for me.
Yeah, that's the beauty of these housewivesian kind of shows
where you get to have the same characters coming back season after season.
see what develops in the off season on the podcast and whatever.
But I mean, like you're saying, Kelsey's going on these podcasts, basically shit talking everybody.
She's actively accepting the heel role.
She's like, hate me.
Please hate me.
I'm going to be the villain of Real Housewives of Rhode Island.
And that's a great position to hold because you need that person in every season.
And to be in, to hold that position gladly in every season.
And she seems like she's going to do it.
In the residents in downtown Montreal, flights from Porter Airlines, two weekend gold tickets, and $1,000 cash.
Please, love.

The final person I wanted to touch on with the two of you
is our beloved Ashley.
We are very biased here.
So it was hard for us this season.
I, you know, Lawrence her sister.
but even for my own viewing experience,
I don't want to say I'm proud of her.
That seems like demeaning in some way.
I don't know if I would have done worse on the show.
I just watched her and I felt a gladness in my heart
that she's a friend of mine.
I also enjoyed watching her on television
because she was authentic to herself in so many of these moments.
She carried herself in the Housewives franchise
in a way that I agree was related.
and different enough to make, I think, the average viewer from the Midwest, which is where
I'm from, go, I get that girl.
Like, I understand her.
And I like watching her, like, try to function in this crazy environment of, you know, intermingling marriages and friendships that are splitting apart and coming together.
I like watching it.
So I would give her an A plus in the season.
I want to hear from the two of you, though.
And you can be mean to Ashley.
She's fine.
She can handle it.
handle it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But tell us what you thought with the expectations you had on how Ashley did on the
Real Housewives of Rhode Island.
I had high expectations, but again, I was worried after that trailer.
But I thought she blew it out of the water.
I thought it was incredible.
I was following closely the Audrey's storyline.
I couldn't wait for Chad to get to the episode where they get under the table.
I think they should like put a little thing around that table.
Like a plaque.
or put the characters in the seats or something.
That's a good idea.
Dash memorialize it.
I see what you're saying about proud,
but as a fan of Ashley,
I was like,
she just did amazing.
It was incredible.
And yeah, I can't wait to see the next season.
I think she could delve more into the Jared
storyline because that is like,
the unrequited love thing is very relatable.
and I feel like, I don't know, there's something there.
Yeah, it is relatable.
I don't know if she wants.
She doesn't want, she feels bad having like, like the whole storyline be essentially about
Jared.
And she's like, make it about me.
Like, I can talk about myself.
I can make fun of myself.
It's making coffee and just getting beat up over there.
Jared did not sign up for this.
For what it's worth.
I mean, I'll piggyback on what Lizzie's saying.
I loved watching her.
I thought she did fantastic.
This is the first time we've seen a big batch of,
player go into the Housewives franchise ever and this like she's breaking ground here this is trailblazing
um i was blown away by it i was obviously curious to see what is she going to do in this other context
that isn't a bachelor world thing and i thought she did it so well to be both relatable but also to be
able to hang with some of these like clearly heavyweight kind of housewivesian style players
she was able to do that i think for her second season like
if she wants to make it about her for my money,
if I'm Ashley and I'm Jared
and I'm sitting down right now
as I know they must be thinking about
what are we going to do in season two?
Ashley should come into Audrey's and say,
look, I'm going to turn this place
into a money-making machine.
Here's what we're going to do.
And she should kind of take the reins,
let him do the nuts and bolts,
like making the coffees,
go into the cost code to buy all this shit, whatever.
But she should come in with a creative plan
about like, we're going to give this one big shot.
And if this doesn't work,
we close it down.
So you've got a built-in ticking clock by the end of the season.
We're going to see if she did it or not.
She can have a couple of big events that all the other housewives have to come to to,
to like really launch and make that like a huge story about like it's going to be a big
life decision they're going to have to make at the end of this if it doesn't work.
But if it does, holy shit.
Audrey's finally achieves the success that they wanted it to.
And Jared can take some time off to go golfing or whatever.
I love it.
You are now the executive producer.
of this show, okay? That was so good. I'm available. Let me know. I love that. I'm going to tell Ashley that later.
I know that they're pitching Ashley to do other things with Audrey's that are a little more scandalous that
we're not really pleased with. But I don't think I can tell me more. I don't think I can say it right now. I don't
think I can say it. But I hope that it's your way. Yeah. I would love to see how an Ashley and Jared
coffee shop that serves generous coffee becomes scandalous.
Oh, yeah. Well, we'll see.
I'm so confused.
Me too.
Can everybody just start going to...
Yeah. Can everybody just start going to Audrey so we don't have to deal with any weird changes?
They're a big client in mine and I need them to stick around.
The vibe says strip club to me, but I'm like, that can't be it.
The coffee will still be delicious. That's all that matters.
Oh, goodness gracious. Hey, I mean, maybe they want to collab with Liz, sell some of their...
Yeah.
And a pause.
You would do a CBD martini.
Yeah.
Something like that.
Hey,
the two of you are great.
And thanks for jumping on here.
Thanks for breaking down the Real Housewives of Rhode Island.
The work that you do is fantastic on the game of roses.
And then also,
if you're intrigued,
at some point you might want to change the name of this to like how to win a reality show.
But how to win the Bachelor,
I think still works for now.
But,
yeah.
Sad.
Yeah.
And that's just strategic.
maybe.
But how to win The Bachelor is also a fantastic read.
Lizzie and Chad,
thanks for jumping on.
I hope we can do this again.
Thank you.
So fun.
Our pleasure for us.
Can't wait to hear about sexy Audrey's.
Well, hang on.
Yep.
Once we stop recording, he'll get it.
Hey, we'll see you later, everybody.
Thanks for joining.
Bye.

They turned black.
