Start listening to Scam Goddess on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I do part two. It's Richard Marks and my gorgeous wife, Daisy Fuentes. Hi. And today, we are excited to dive into a topic that is taboo for many to discuss, but also an important factor in any healthy romantic relationship.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Taboo for some, but so exciting for me. I am so psyched that I cannot wait to dig in. Today we're joined by sexologist, sex expert, TV personality, and author of The Game of Desire, and host of the podcast Lovers by Shan. It's Shan Boudram. Yes. Yeah, baby. It's like you popped out of the cake about it. Can I start?
Starting point is 00:03:11 I know it should be ladies first. But on the way here. Men usually do come first. Yes. Ain't that the truth? I'm rarely at a loss or worse. The truth is true. We got to have it.
Starting point is 00:03:29 We got to go there. Daisy can attest to this. 20 minutes before we even got here to the studio, I asked the question, how do you become a sex expert? I mean, I have an idea. But how do you become a sexologist? Tell us your...
Starting point is 00:03:47 path to that. Yes. I am a sex educator versus a sex expert because we are all sex experts. Oh, I mean, not all. We all are. I mean, I dated some men. Well, of our own body, of our own anatomy, or at least a portion of it. You know, you can tap in, most of us can tap in with how we feel. We have an understanding of our sexual selves, our sexual identity. Even if we don't have the words for it, we kind of know what we like, we don't like. You know, when you eat something and you can't really quite disguise the flavor, but you know, if you like it, you know, if you like it, you don't. So that's, at least we have that tacit knowledge. So everyone is a sex expert, a sex educator. I went to school for psychology. I got a master's in psychology. And then I became
Starting point is 00:04:29 a certified sex educator through ASECT. And then I went to sexual health alliance. I also became a certified sex educator there. And I'm an ABS certified sexologist. So I teach about sex. But am I the best lovemaker in the world? Yes, you are. No. No, I'm not. It depends on who you ask. always for everyone. Isn't that the case? It really depends on who you ask because, you know, we are all great in someone's eyes and we're also always like the villain in someone's story. At some point, you've been the best someone ever had. Right. Even if you're your first, when you touched yourself, at that moment, you were the best you ever had. At some point, we have all been the best someone has ever had. I just, I can't say it enough because I think sometimes we feel like
Starting point is 00:05:14 we have to, we're gatecapped from basic human. rights and your sexuality is a basic human right and you don't have to qualify for that. And I think that one of the reasons why many people, including myself, love these types of conversations is because we're in many areas of life. They say comparison is the thief of joy. Well, this is the one area in life where we really don't have a lot of comparisons to make. Like we can only compare what we know from our own experience in the past. Like we don't know what other people, we can't compare to other people's experiences. And so whenever you have the chance to learn and get some insight on that to really measure it against like, oh, I have felt that way.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Or I've thought, oh, I didn't know that people do that or feel that or that you could. Yeah. You know, and that's why it's such an interesting topic because we're all interested in what everybody else is doing. Even if you, and this is what I love about kind of where we are in society that we can have such a more open conversation about these kind of things. But even other people's experiences or proclivities or interests or turn-ons that I go, wait, what? I'm still really interested. Yeah. And like, was there an origin to that?
Starting point is 00:06:39 Or so how do you, like, if you're into something. that's, you know, maybe what's the right terminology, less mass appeal. Yes, yes. Kinky. What's, taboo? Yeah, one person's, kinky is another person. Yeah. But I love the idea.
Starting point is 00:06:57 I love the idea of asking and finding out how do you navigate that in a relationship or how do you navigate that just in a hookup or how do you, how do you comfortably ask for what you want? And how scary is that? Mm-hmm. You know, that's all very, I think that this sexual interaction between human beings is endlessly fascinating. Although, you correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the younger generation today has a better grasp on that. They are so much more open. And I guess just because of information being so available.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Because of people like Shan. Yes. And because there is more conversation. They're much more comfortable. I only had Dr. Ruth. Exactly. But the younger gen. You let the dip like a popsicle.
Starting point is 00:07:48 I can't believe you still remember that. You were paying attention. I was definitely paying attention. RIP to a legend, man. But for those who are older and maybe navigating sex after divorce, after they've been married for a long time, it's still, I think, a difficult thing to navigate. What do you think about that?
Starting point is 00:08:11 and how should people approach that? You guys do a lot at me right there. Yeah. You did. And it was good. You can handle it. I feel confident. I think we're just going to, there's a difference between thinking and feeling.
Starting point is 00:08:23 What I think right now is I'm watching your face. I'm watching your expression. So you understanding me. Am I talking too long? What I feel? This chair is kind of comfortable. Oh, I'm a little hot. My armpits are kind of sweaty if I think about it.
Starting point is 00:08:36 I can feel the weight actually drop down to my bottom right now. Do I have to go pee? That's what I feel. right. So sex is a thinking thing when it comes to safety, when it comes to family planning, when it comes to risk assessment, consent. Yes, it's a thinking thing. You have to think about those things to consider other people. But when it comes to grading the experience, it's a feeling thing. It's just, it doesn't matter if somebody is eating Chipotle right now in the world and somebody else is eating the most rare baked to 24-carat gold filet mignon. When they both bite
Starting point is 00:09:11 that and it tastes amazing to them, it's the same thing, right? So the thinking and the comparing yourself to other people so irrelevant because you can't compare, we can't compare pleasure. You will never know if your friend who has sex hanging from the ceiling and has a sex bedroom and a sex dungeon and has foods and all these other toys. They go to sex parties. You're never going to know if their orgasm is better than your little rose orgasm at home alone. There's no possible way of knowing the feeling. No two orgasms are the same. name anyway. Exactly. So I don't have to think and compare. I just ask myself the question. However, however, there are still, and I know from my conversations with my girlfriends,
Starting point is 00:09:52 there are still people who can't separate the two. There are still people who are so much in their head that it gets in the way of the feeling. How do you navigate that? Or what do you suggest? Well, I ask you guys both the question. What are you thinking and feeling right now, honestly? I'm feeling really close to her because when we get to kind of revisit the origin of our relationship, which we did in the episode before you got here, talking about our history, because we met later in life, we've been married 10 years, together 12 years. I was actually sitting here having this conversation with her and what I was feeling was this rush of how attracted I am to her in somewhat the same ways that I was when I first knew her, but now that she's my family and we've been through a lot together,
Starting point is 00:10:54 that I was just feeling so grateful that that's my person. but that's how I'm feeling right now. Isn't he just the best? He's a keeper. I was just madly on the other. I would marry you again. I hope so. I got to say,
Starting point is 00:11:10 it's wrong answer, Richard. Oh, okay? Sorry. Oh, okay. You were thinking about that. You were thinking about it and you were remembering the feeling, which means you weren't presently here,
Starting point is 00:11:23 which is the actual perfect response because you shouldn't be here. You should be. because, yeah, there was thinking involved in the tracing of it, but the feeling that I had just looking at her and factoring that all in was an absolute rush of feeling. It wasn't a rush of thinking. Yeah, but in this exact moment, you're still feeling that?
Starting point is 00:11:43 No, not right now. I think what she means is like, bitch. So right now, right now I'm feeling like my feet are cold because it's cold in here. That's what you mean. I'm a little chilly, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Or like you're feeling, or you could be feeling sentimental. right because you're like and then if I asked you why are you feeling sentimental because of that just what just yeah because you're thinking about that right so there's a connection yeah I guess in that case right but then if you thought about some of the other bodily feelings of temperature of feeling sensation of comfort right so things like that are sensory attached right what you're smelling how you're what you're seeing right now are you feeling tired what's your energy level so there's the feeling in terms of I think the emotion and that's a difference of an emotion but the feeling what you're what's like actually here. So I think with sex, that's kind of the problem is that often we don't really know how to be like, what's my left toe doing? What's my right side of my clitoris doing? What's the, what's my gooch doing, right? It's so hard to, that that's what I mean. It's hard to be in the moment. Yeah. To go with the feeling. And especially when you're coming out of a long term relationship that you've been in this, you've gone through the marriage, you've gone through the kids, you've gone through like being hot for each other to just like being basically roommates
Starting point is 00:13:00 to then the divorce and now all of a sudden you're back in the dating pool and you're almost like it's almost like you're picking up where you left off you know what your kids are grown yeah his kids are grown your kids are grown yeah now you have all the time in the world to love yeah yeah heaven yeah and to love with a lifetime of experience behind you yes of what your deal breakers are maybe or what you won't settle for again in terms of lack or, you know, for me it's always about don't repeat behavior that didn't serve you. Or don't repeat experiences that didn't serve you. Because I just, and I'm so grateful about this relationship because I would hate to have
Starting point is 00:13:52 gone through the rest of my life, always thinking, I never felt that thing or I never got to do that or be comfortable enough to ask for this. Or, you know, that's where a lot of my gratitude bias in this relationship is just feeling a lot of people. But I think that a lot of people who've been in marriages for a long, who've been married for a long time are probably at some point they've gone through that thought. And that doesn't always mean you have to get a divorce or the relationship isn't going to work out. So people who have been married a long time and are feeling like, oh, I thought there was going to be more. And a lot of that is the sexual chemistry that is lost in a long-term relationship.
Starting point is 00:14:39 How do you bring that back? Or is it should you be expecting to bring that back? Or is there just another level that you can flow in? I mean, there's an infinite amount of answers to that. But the end of the day is you don't know till you try. If you, you've lived life a certain way for a period of time and your result is that you don't like it, you try something else. If you meaningfully take stock and say, I've tried every reasonable thing that I can try and the results aren't changing, there you go. It's actually not much more complicated than that. And sometimes people need that. It's a beautiful release to let somebody go who you guys just can't seem to grow together, right? Like there's, you're trying your best, the intentions are
Starting point is 00:15:22 there and that sucks. It's such a heartbreaking thing. But the only way that you, you guys get to be together now and experience what you just freely said on camera is by letting something else go. Exactly. It's just not possible elsewise. And so again, but I do think something very important. When I got married, I got married thinking, I'll just get divorced if I need to. That's my thought. Me too. Yeah. Yeah. I was like, I do until I don't. Right. A hundred percent. And that is valid for every marriage. Yeah. It is valid. But I, that meant that every time I got into an argument, I had to go to myself and say,
Starting point is 00:16:00 is this the divorce argument? Oh, because divorce is an option. It's not that it can't be an option, but put a, let your decision be a decision for some period of time. That's what marriage is suggesting. Maybe lifetime is too grandiose. Like, if marriage was, I do for the next four years,
Starting point is 00:16:16 you would just tell yourself for four years, I'm going to give this a try. I'm already here anyways. I have four years. I can do four years. And then at year four, decide again. Maybe it's two years for you or whatever it is, but making those not keeping the option constantly open in your mind really take stock. Have I done everything I can? Yes, I have. Have I tried
Starting point is 00:16:36 exhausted all the, um, what I really want to put in here is reasonable options. Mm-hmm. It's not reasonable. Right. It's like we say to each other sometimes when we're just having a playful moment of being in love and one of us will go, I just hit resubscribe. I'm resubscribing. Oh my gosh. You just said something that I was like, you're like your husband. What is it like to be your husband and get into an argument with you? Because that's like he's not going to win that shit. No, he does. And so.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I got to take the most embarrassing moment. I actually technically was right in this argument. It was like I was trying to talk about something very vulnerable to him. Right. And when talking about something very vulnerable, he closed up a little bit. And so then I was like, and then he closed up and I gave him an out and he took the out. Like, let's just watch the sports or let's just clean the kitchen.
Starting point is 00:17:34 He was like, yeah, let's clean the kitchen. And it wasn't vulnerable about me. So I just said that had nothing to do with me. I just wanted to feel the intimacy of us being able to talk about anything. And he didn't give me that. And so I went upstairs and I'm like, I don't know how that felt. And then he comes upstairs and then he was just like, what's going? on. I was like, oh, nothing. I'm just, I'm a little frazzled right now. He said, why are you
Starting point is 00:17:58 frazzled? I said, well, because I was trying to talk to you about something. And I, I share everything with you. So I just kind of felt like you put a gate up. And he was like, it wasn't a gate. I just, I just, I haven't thought about that yet. So I'd have to get back to you once I thought about it. And then I was like, well, I don't want to. And then I'm, how about now? Yeah. And so he just was like, oh, you know what? I have to go to sleep. And usually, even if I'm wrong, he'll be the person to be the first to come back. You know what I mean? Like, we're going to separate.
Starting point is 00:18:27 He's usually the first person to come back. But this time he didn't. And I sent a text. I was like, you still awake? And then I didn't get a response. Then I had to go downstairs and be like, okay, well, I'm wrong and I'm upset, but I just don't think we should sleep separately. Do what you want.
Starting point is 00:18:42 So I'm an idiot a lot, too. That's really interesting. That's really cool. Yeah, because there must be times when you just like, everything that that you've learned, all your education and experience. Like it doesn't come into play. Because you're just being human. I'm feeling. I'm not thinking.
Starting point is 00:19:02 Sometimes I don't have the capacity to think because I'm in fighter flights. I'm just raw instinct. I'm just feeling. Being human. Yeah. Sometimes I suck. Starting point is 00:20:29 We have a new podcast. It's called Don't Lie to Me. I'm Lexi Iwano. We're two best friends, 22 years apart, but so close at heart. And I'm Lisa Di Giulio, the old one, which means we have wildly different references, occasionally different opinions, and at this point in my 50s, I've lived it all.
Starting point is 00:20:46 I'm not going to get anywhere fighting. That is wild. I learned that about you today. Now in my 30s, being the founder of new shoes, good taste is my business. And I've always got something to say. If men were just honest about this, there would be so much more peace in the world. We're going to talk about dating, relationships, beauty, getting older, and a little wiser. We're best friends, but we don't always agree.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Because you told us how accommodating you are. Obviously, I would do what I think I could do to fight the fight, but there's only so much fight I can fight. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Liar.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Listen on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I don't really care. Hi, this is Kylie Breakman. Angel Geratana. Jeremy Colhane. Patrick McDonald. And we're the hosts of the Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists Podcast. The Improvised Character Comedy Podcast where each week a new panel of artists discuss their craft.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Join us for a panel of wellness influence. What I try to do is faux journal. I don't know. Have you guys heard of faux journaling? Yeah, it's reading. It's called reading. So you're so we don't like to use that word anymore. Okay. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class? No! I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the thousand paper cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14th. That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30. No way.
Starting point is 00:22:22 You have to come to the last bookstore, though. Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks on Halloween. It's right up next to the microphone. I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit each other.
Starting point is 00:22:42 You never seen Italy so quiet as when the Pope gets up to wink on Halloween. Listen to artists on artists on artists on artists on the I-Hard Radio Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. So what has your husband taught you about sex and relationships that you didn't know? How long you've been together? 10 years. Okay. Yeah, 10 years.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Okay. You guys were young? Yeah. Well, I'm 40. So I was 30. You're 40? I know. She looks amazing.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Yeah. Crazy. Skin care secrets later. On the next podcast. So I met him. You know, I had done a lot of life. But it was actually the very first time that we. were intimate together.
Starting point is 00:23:26 And it wasn't like penetration. It was just the, it was second base, depending on what country we're in. It was second base. And I got to see his face while he was at second base. And the look on his face was like that of like a painter on canvas. You know what I mean? But like not like a painter who's thought, I'm going to go and paint a smiley face, one who's like, what am I going to paint today?
Starting point is 00:23:49 What am I feeling? Like it was like so I don't know how to describe it. And I was like, because you're just so accustomed. to men having the porn face. Yes. No. You know the porn face. Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:01 The porn face. And so you're like, oh, I know the porn face. I don't know this face. Like that moment on, it was so intriguing. And if that point on, I also knew sex could never be boring. Because we would always be responding to each other in the moment. And we're different every single moment. That's so interesting.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Now, is it true that you guys have an open relationship? It is true. Oh, my God. I have so many questions. Just go. Just tell me every. Was it always an open? It was always open.
Starting point is 00:24:27 It was a discussion, obviously. Yeah, well, it was kind of like, I think a lot of it, but I wonder about your guys' take on this, but I think a lot of commitment comes in hindsight, a lot of titles come in hindsight. Like, rather than us thinking, we're going to build a building, we're just having fun playing with blocks and all of a sudden we look like, oh, this is a building.
Starting point is 00:24:44 So that's kind of what happened with our relationship in the beginning is that it was just not the right time for either of us. I was kind of on the fritz of deportations. I wasn't sure about my status in the country and I couldn't legally work. He had just moved somewhere new, so we were just looking for something super casual. And in that, I think the lack of we're doing this thing and more we're enjoying each other.
Starting point is 00:25:02 And if we're not, let's just check in because maybe this is not a thing we keep doing. We just kept kind of like building an intimacy, very small stuff. I'm going away for the week. Do you mind watering my plants? I come back. My plants aren't dead. Cool. Oh, I have a football party thing.
Starting point is 00:25:16 Do you want to come? I go to the football party thing. I'm not weird. It's not weird. Cool. Come to those. It just kind of built like that. And so because that, we never had exclusivity.
Starting point is 00:25:24 mapped into this arrangement didn't make sense. So by the time that we had like moved in together because it just made sense, we were like, well, what should we call this? Because now our parents are like, who do you live with? What's this thing? And what's this thing? And this is like, about nine months later. And so like, okay, this is an open relationship because this dynamic has worked really
Starting point is 00:25:43 well for us, this freedom, this trust. What I do for a living, I am naturally, which I'm very mad right now, as I touched myself, I did not oil myself up. I'm just dry. I actually have oil in my bag if we want to do the rest of this podcast the right way. Your skin is gorgeous, you don't need to. Okay, I do have oil spray in the bag. But this is part of my fun, right?
Starting point is 00:26:03 Yeah. So I've had partners in the past where they don't find it very fun to date a woman like that. So I love the fact that he found it fun and like let me be me. And so I let him be him. And when we let each other be each other, it didn't actually bother me what he chose to do. So you always were into open relationships. That's something you always felt comfortable in, believed in, and wanted. Well, it was 2016, so, girl, I didn't know it was a thing. I think I had to Google it.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Like, what do we call? Maybe I knew because of Will and Jada. There had been rumors about their relationship. So I think the word was a little bit in the zeitgeist, but it definitely wasn't what it is today at the time. I mean, I'm a pioneer in this. I've gone through, I've been dragged by, ooh, Steve Harvey tried to drag me about this. The view tried to drag me about this. Drag you in like, that it's bad? It could never work. You are very, very. I can't believe you're promoting this. What you're promoting is dangerous. This is dangerous.
Starting point is 00:26:58 People shouldn't consider this. And why do you think people are so triggered by it? I mean, I think it's the fear that it's like if you hear a human doing or something that's very extreme, you're just afraid someone's going to ask you to do it. Yeah, like I don't know that it's something I would ever be comfortable with, but I am so intrigued by it. And I'm so wanting to know how people navigate. because I want to understand that.
Starting point is 00:27:26 And I love when I meet people who are doing things differently. Well, I really want to know. And it seems like you're willing to share. Let's go. You're an open book, seems. I'm fascinated by the emotional risks of it. Because I've known people over the years who have not really open marriages, but they're sort of like a don't ask, don't tell kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:27:54 especially I'm in the music business, so I know a couple of guys who tour, have toured for decades. They've been married, but their wife knows that it's basically like, just don't embarrass me. Yes. I know you're going to be away for all that. Monopoly. Yeah. But to have an agreement and a real understanding and a seemingly a loving understanding of an open marriage, what are the emotional risks of that? Is it just who were like, hey, if I fall for somebody, I fall for somebody. It's like, that's just
Starting point is 00:28:28 part of the, part of the deal. Oh, for sure. I mean, that's a risk always. Yeah. Right. Right. You can never mitigate that risk or you could try to put rules in place, but do you want the rules there? Right. That meant that that person would have done something different otherwise. I mean, and if it does prevent it, I mean, there's something to that. I mean, but also then, even that's what an open relationship offers is that if you meet somebody who does catch you and you're like, it's worth the risk, then go experience that. find out. I mean, of course there's a risk. There's always a risk and that is something to be considered. And there's, like anything else, whenever you experience something new, you're like,
Starting point is 00:29:02 ooh, how do I feel about this? And what's my thought about that? And then you unpack it and you're like, eh, I think that's okay. Or you see other sort of benefits of it. Like, I'd ask my husband this because I was like, I love a little flirt buddy. I always have a little flirt buddy on the side. So if I lose one, I got to find a new one. And so I was asking him, I'm like, does it kind of bother you about me that I like have this like, you know, thing. Like, would you rather I didn't? Would you rather that? And he was like, it's hard to say because I love the little, uh, that it gives you,
Starting point is 00:29:31 the little zah, it gives you in the world, like feeling desirable, how you put yourself out there. I've had two kids. I'm in my 40s. I'm like, I'm reaching into a season where it's just not a given. It's something you have to take or like take command of or want. And so not to say that that is what gives me that. But it put a little zah on it.
Starting point is 00:29:50 You know what I mean? It just puts a little zon. it. So I think that he's like, I love that about you. And on top of that, I've never had physical sex than anybody else. So that, there we go. That might be an O for why it's okay. And for other people might be the opposite. How about for him? Is that a choice on your end or was it part of the agreement? That's a choice on my end. And what about for him the same? No, he has. Yeah. And how does that work? I mean, at first, you're like, how does that make me feel? And then you're like,
Starting point is 00:30:21 I think I'm okay with it. Nothing in my life changes. And they got a little job. I'm so evolved. I mean, at the end of the day, too, it's also important to note
Starting point is 00:30:30 that I have been a sex educator for 20 years. Yeah. So I've been exposed to different communities. I've been in different groups. I've heard different stories. So I'm not trying to ask anybody to take all the time
Starting point is 00:30:43 and the work and the effort and the groups and the exposure I've had and apply that to their everyday life. It's an extraordinary amount of work. but I love the work and I like the result. And I'm also paid to do the work. Yeah. You know, I'm monetarily inspired to learn about these things and have these kinds of
Starting point is 00:30:59 conversation. So I'm not by any means saying this to say to anybody else, like, well, then you should be more okay with it. Why would you be? You do so many other things incredibly that I can't do, that you spend all your time on. I would never compare my results to yours because I know that if I wanted to work at that, I could. But I just don't want to, so I don't.
Starting point is 00:31:18 I have a lot more respect for people who have what they call an open marriage than the people who don't and cheat on their partner. Yeah, for sure. And we know there's a lot of that. Yeah. What's one thing you believed or even taught or suggested when you first started that you've changed your mind on now? Ooh, so much. It's a good one, honey. So much.
Starting point is 00:31:47 I mean, I think any time that, was a good question. Thank you. Listen, y'all just make out a little quick. I know. We do. We do. For me, maybe later. Maybe later. Maybe later. I would like to see it. I'll totally plan one on it right in front of you. Yeah. There's a meme by the actor Monique that's like that, or she's like, I'd like to see it. So somebody right now put that in the comment section. I think so much. I think it's just the, someone said this to me actually, which I thought was like with the grandest compliment, but they were like, it's so fast. because the older you get, the more humble you get.
Starting point is 00:32:21 And sometimes humility means like life has, life has flattened you. And it has. You know, when you become a mom and you experience different things or you sort of have different kinds of conversation, you're sort of, I know best or I know what I'm doing or this person good, that person bad. That thing kind of erodes because, I mean, I always think about this like human and humility, right? It's the hum.
Starting point is 00:32:44 And the hum is the consistency, like the, hmm. Like, that means we're all the same. It's just consistent frequency. So I think now that I see the world like that and I see it less, you know, even like before I used to have a lot of hatred towards men, not men in particular, but certain types of men online that you encounter and the men that women often complain about. And now I don't. There was Love Island came out this year.
Starting point is 00:33:09 And the most toxic person was this guy named Sincer. Like he was such a F boy and a liar and a manipulator. and his name was sincere. Oh, that's ironic. Yeah, but it's also kind of tragic and sad. Yeah. He didn't get the memo. I feel like he did that on purpose, though.
Starting point is 00:33:27 No, it means his parents were like, you only call your kid something that you, like, don't really have. Like, you want to give it to your kid. And maybe you just, like, lived in a very dishonest world, and you never really felt you could trust people. And so you're like, I want to give my kid this gift that I just don't really see is in the world right now. So, but then the thing is if you're born of parents who are not a right now, that they may not know how to teach that.
Starting point is 00:33:47 So then I don't hate the men as much. So I think that's the difference is I have a lot more tolerance than I used to. That's interesting. Do you think sexual confidence is something that gets better and stronger with age? Or is it the other way around? I mean, you have 40. Let's all answer it for ourselves. No way.
Starting point is 00:34:08 As women. I will actually push your chair over. Girl, I will shove your chair over. I may have been fishing for a compliment a little bit, but no. 60 is actually wild. Right? So I wanted to ask also, you know, about that. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:34:23 But for women, you know, as we get older especially, but for everyone, is sexual confidence something that comes with age or something that we lose with age? You just said we get more humble as we get older. What does that mean for sex? Oh my gosh, you look so good with your age. I couldn't even listen. Oh, my God, you're so cute. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:34:40 I always say that too because it's like, you know people say you look good for your age. It's like you look good with your age. Like 60 looks so. so good on you. Thank you. And that also makes sense for like your energy. It feels good. Like you feel like, bitch, I've been here.
Starting point is 00:34:54 I have. Don't play with me. Bitch, I have. I got shit to say. Been here. I'm not going anywhere. Oh my gosh. I love that.
Starting point is 00:35:09 That's so great. I have no idea what you asked. I'm so sorry. But yeah. About sexual confidence. Does it get better with age? or do we become more insecure as we become maybe a little more humble? Because that's one thing with age is that I, you're right.
Starting point is 00:35:23 When you're young, you feel like you know everything. Then as you get older, you're like, God, I really don't know anything. And I want to know everything. I want to learn. At least I have become more and more and more curious about everything. So with sexual confidence, what does that mean sexually? Honestly, I already know the answer to this. but have you ever felt more sexually confident?
Starting point is 00:35:46 Never. Obviously. Obviously not. Because the sexiest thing that anyone can be is curious. That is the hottest thing. Like that, when you make love like a tourist, what? This place is amazing. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:36:04 You get a picture. What does that do? Oh my God, let's try this. I never tried that before. Have you tried? Let's try something else. Oh my gosh. Sangria is for everybody.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Like that's how you make love. And then you're just like, you're not, you're just a tourist. You know what I mean? You're not expecting to be the spotlight and the it. Maybe when you're younger, you're like, there's a phrase on TikTok, whichever they like right now is called I'm the birthday or you the birthday, which means that like, oh, you think that you're the center of attention. Right.
Starting point is 00:36:32 So it can kind of be a drag. Yeah. Like, oh, girl, you're the birthday. Like, we get it. You're here, Daisy. Or you're the birthday. Or you're the birthday. But I think when you're younger and you have sex, you're like,
Starting point is 00:36:43 like, I'm the birthday. That's right. Look what I'm doing. Look at my face. Oh, look at my face. Look at my face. Look at my lips. And then you're just like, sorry.
Starting point is 00:36:52 No, that's okay. You can't phase me. I'm older than her. I don't know who I want to know. Yeah, but you're the boy with two like crazy girls. And so you get a little shy at that moment. I know him. Okay.
Starting point is 00:37:08 Yeah. Anyway, carry on. So I think when you're older, you're like, it's everyone's birthday? Or what's a birthday? You know, Cree Summer came on my podcast and she is an iconic voice actor and as well as an iconic actor, also Canadian as myself. But she turned 50 and she said, there's something so freeing about it because everything kind of just is where it is now. When you're younger, you have the responsibility of trying to be perfect because technically you could be. So you're like, oh, I could be perfect. But when you're like older, you're like, it's just not going to be. This is what it is. And that freedom just allows you to be so much more curious. Here's what's crazy about that, that as that is happening, for women also as you get into your 50s and your 60s, you're also dealing with so much change. And that is not, you may feel that in many areas of your life. But when it comes to sex, that can be where it's really a problem because things do change. And all of a sudden, the woman who was very sexual, all of a sudden either has no interest,
Starting point is 00:38:13 for it or it doesn't feel the same. There are things happening with her body and her hormones and her mind. And that can be, that not can be. That is a real issue for so many women. And I'll tell you for me personally, I decided to take charge of that and do a lot of research and ask a lot of questions and find all the things that I can do to get back to feeling as most like myself as I could. So many women don't. And when they do reach out for the help, they're told, oh, you'll get, you'll get past it. And they end up spending their 50s and their 60s, not like themselves, not enjoying sex. And unhappy. Unhappy. And I think the really, and misunderstood. And the relationship suffers. So while we're getting all this strength in one area of our lives, sexually, it's a different
Starting point is 00:39:11 story. Can I ask you a question just for an honest answer? Is there any way for a woman to mentally, I hear women talk, I'm 41, so it's coming for me. I think I know what you mean. Is there any way for me to know what you mean? Not of 41. No. I can't know. No. Not even after having kids or anything. It's going to be like a shock. It's totally different thing. Because I'll tell you something. When I was 40, even when I was 45, I was feeling my most powerful woman. independent and sexually alive self ever. And then you get into your 50s and shit just goes down. Shit happens.
Starting point is 00:39:52 It's like, oh, wow, who am I? What is happening? I've lost total control. What do I have to do? And today the conversation is much more open than it was, even 10 or 15 years ago, when I started going on that journey. But you also met it so head on. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Because of your personality, she was not going to be a victim to it in the same way that some people, some women have to be. First of all, she has means and opportunity to, and she seized those. She was like, no, no, no, no. This is not okay. And I know that there's something I can do to help all of this stuff. So I'm doing it. She was so proactive. Like I was too young and I had just gotten married and I was too young to.
Starting point is 00:40:40 be like, oh, this is what my life is now. This is what I have to deal with. Like, yeah, we have to go through that part of our life. But it doesn't have, you don't have to suffer through it. And I think so many women don't understand that. And how much that change within you as a sexual woman can affect all parts of you. You know, so when you have a relationship where, you know, sex is a great part of your relationship, but now all of a sudden it's changing. And you may have a partner who doesn't really understand or doesn't care to understand, because I think that's another problem, is that men aren't that interested. When they have a problem, they go get a little pill for almost nothing, and their problems are over. And it's not the same for women. So it's a real, I think it's
Starting point is 00:41:30 really interesting that we're in our most powerful stage in one area and feel so lost in another one It's so heartbreaking to hear that because you just want to feel like, is it ever over the suffering? Like is the turmoil and the change and the upside down and the chaos ever over? But then I think back to your answer when I asked you who've ever felt more confident. And you were like, this is it. Was it worth it? I don't know. I mean, I don't know if worth it for me, yes, because I think.
Starting point is 00:42:11 I figured it out as much as I could for myself. Is it worth it for women to feel powerful in one area, but be struggling with how they feel and who they're becoming and feel helpless? That's not a good situation. So I think that for women, even though the conversation is more open today than ever, for these second chance relationships that happen a little, bit later in life, you know, whether you meet someone like I did when I was 46, or whether you meet
Starting point is 00:42:46 someone when you're in your 50s or in your 60s, I think that it's really important for men to also understand what women are going through and to really know what their place in that is sexually, because it can change the whole dynamic of the relationship. And that goes back to the thinking and feeling thing because Richard and I are in the same boat. We can think that we know what you're talking about just haven't felt it yeah oh yeah so and but the acceptance of that is really important too and that's why in whatever ways i could i would just ask her like how are you feeling what do what can i do to help that or you know um she was so take charge about it though because and we're not talking about just um sexually because the number that it does on a woman's body and
Starting point is 00:43:40 her physiology is, you know, it was brand new information for me. And it made me, again, really be grateful that I'm a guy because we really don't have anything like that to deal with. Yeah, we have our, you know, men go through, you know, a version of manopause or whatever you want to call it. But it's not, there's no comparison. And so for me, so husbands out there are partners out there, be supportive, ask the right questions, and just understand that this is the last thing that your partner wants to be dealing with.
Starting point is 00:44:19 You know, it's really frustrating for them. You know, and the last thing when you're going through that is the last thing you need is for your man, your husband, the person you're with, to be like, oh, you know, it's just not the same. Like, you're not the same that you used to be. Like, is it me? Like, are you just not into me anymore? Yeah. you. This is not about, you're not the birthday.
Starting point is 00:44:42 But yes, you are not the birthday. Exactly. But that only, and that's so typical. And it's so common. So I think, you know, it's so important for men to. I was going to say the other side of it. I don't know that you can use the term the other side of it with this topic. But the, there's a point of navigation through it where if you're lucky, like,
Starting point is 00:45:08 Daisy has been where she did get answers that she was searching for. And she did find ways to vastly improve all aspects of it. It's, um, that's where your confidence comes from now, I think, because you, you know, you navigated some heavy shit. Yeah. And now you're like, I got this. And the good news is that, like you said, everything changes. The bad news is is everything changes. And as women, that's, that's who we are. We are. We are. are always and forever changing. And I know that there's going to be another change. I know I will change again and maybe again, you know, before my days are over.
Starting point is 00:45:48 But I've seen enough changes through my life to know that there's always something interesting on the other side of the change. Like don't fight the change. It's just so hard to do that when you're going through it. Would you say you're on the other side now? I'm flowing with it. I don't know what that other side is. I think that, you know, for women, when you lose all your hormones,
Starting point is 00:46:13 which is what drives everything, there's always adjustments. You've got to stay on top of how you're feeling. You're going to be really in tune with your body and with your mind. And I think I'm on the other side of the worst of it. Yeah. I think I found a good flow. Yeah. And I wish every woman would.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Yeah, because I have friends that I have, where I have, given them this advice and friends who are younger than me who are just starting to feel it and I'm like, bitch, get ahead of it. Bitch, this is the number, this is what you have to do. This is the patch.
Starting point is 00:46:49 This is the thing. This is the treatment. This is the, like, look into all of it because you can feel so much better. Daisy's like a guru now. And then I have friends who will go to their doctor who perhaps maybe is, you know, an older, more traditional
Starting point is 00:47:05 OBGYN. Male. usually male, but it happens with females too, where they're just like, oh, that's totally normal. Don't worry. You'll get better. You don't need to go on all of the things and do. And they won't give them prescriptions.
Starting point is 00:47:20 They won't try things. And then my friends will come back home and I'll be like, so did you finally get on the thing? And do you feel, oh, no, my doctor said I probably should just, you know, write it out that it'll get better. And it infuriates me. Inferiorates me because it's needless suffering. It's needless frustration.
Starting point is 00:47:37 Yes, life is too short to not really enjoy all of it. Oh my gosh, what a sermon, amen. I'm talking way too much. I want to know about sex. You got to ask who the picture is on the mic, okay? I need you to talk about sex more. No, that was so beautiful. Let's just like rein on that for a second.
Starting point is 00:47:57 Let that grow. That was so lovely and such a good teaching lesson for all of us. I think that it is hard when it is constant changes. And that's, I mean, that's what we're all talking about right now too, right? Right? Like after you make those big changes and those when you're changing while your partner is changing and life is changing and people's perceptions are changing, like how do you find a moment to be stable, be sexy, be present? Well, I have way too many questions. I think we should give somebody else a chance. Should we take a call?
Starting point is 00:51:56 Yeah, what do we got? Hi, my name is Rosie, and I am newly separated. My soon-to-be ex-husband and I met when I was 21. I'm now 37, and finding myself out there dating. in a completely different world. I'm just curious how long is an appropriate amount of time to be dating someone before you sleep with them. Do I go on three dates?
Starting point is 00:52:30 Is it okay on the first date? Like, I just don't really know. Thanks. Love your show. It's not one size fits all. That's for sure. Mm-hmm. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:52:41 I think the most important things are consent. intent, consent, do we want to do this, intent, why are we doing this? Intent is harder to determine in a short amount of time. So if you're very focused on intent, it's not just the act itself, but what you want it to build towards, then I'd probably have a whatever rule it is for you. Depends on what you do, because it varies on the date. You can go on one date with somebody and you guys don't get chased by the police and then you bump into your mom and then you're, now you're at like, you know, a family barbecue. And then you're like, no, we did a life together. Let's fuck. I've seen you in a lot of situations. My family has met you. That's one date. But like, oh, I actually, when you tell me, I want to do this with you because, yes, I want to get off. But also, I want to see what we have. And I just want to kind of build on that chemistry. And you look them in the eye and you're like, you shook my mom's hand. Okay. I can trust you. But if you're like, kind of meh about the intent, you're like, if they do, they do, they don't, they don't. And you don't have to put so much stock on it. You just go with how you feel in the moment. I think that that's the best sex. The best sex is when consent and intent are both.
Starting point is 00:53:44 there. And that's, like I said, if you're really good and skilled and good at reading people, maybe you can figure that out in a first day. Most people, I probably wouldn't give that advice. Yeah, I think the most important thing is to not feel like pressured into it or to not feel like, oh, well, I owe him this by this point because of whatever reason. Oh, yeah. I think that's the most important thing. Because it doesn't come back. You know what I mean? We think it's a weird thing, like the exchange. Oh, he's bought dinner. So then I'll give him sex. And then he'll give me a phone call. It's like, no, they, in his mind, the exchange is done. You got food, he had sex, and the next day, you're like, that was not worth it. Right. Right. Because I expected more. Why? Or maybe it was.
Starting point is 00:54:25 And maybe you're like, yeah, I, I want to get with you tonight and don't call me. Oh, for sure. I mean, that's why vacation sex is so great. Yeah. Because, not because the sex is better, but because you guys both clearly defined. That's why, like, a hall pass is amazing. Because you're actually just going there to have sex. Yeah. And I think that for someone who's just coming out of a divorce, like that, maybe that is what she needs is just a casual encounter before she's putting too much pressure on like, oh, when is it the right time to have sex or not? It's like, just, girl, just find your mojo again. It's like, I think you should speak to, throughout my relationship with Daisy, she's had a couple of female friends who are mature and either are single after a relationship
Starting point is 00:55:14 or have never really had a lengthy relationship. And they get to an age and a point in today's society where they just go, you know what, I'm out. I give up. And Daisy's like, no, no, no, no. You can't do that. You need to. And I think you're very eloquent about what you've said to these women.
Starting point is 00:55:36 And I think that some of the people who are listening to this probably would benefit from that about your encouraging women to just remind themselves of their sexuality. Sexuality. I think there comes a time when you're out of it for so long that you're not comfortable, you're embarrassed. I don't know what it is. Is it true that the old, if you don't use it, you lose it?
Starting point is 00:56:03 I love your advice. It's simple mojo. And you know, mojo is like not one word. It's like mojo, mojo, mojo, mojo, mojo, mojo, mojo, mojo. It has to compound, right? So it's got to keep going. And so you've got to, if you have sex with somebody to get your mojo, but then you feel awkward and ugly and stupid afterwards,
Starting point is 00:56:20 that's not mojo. You didn't get your mojo there. Which is why, look, my top advice to this person, date ugly people. Because they'll be so grateful. Well, it's just not even that. It's not, ugly is not a real thing, right? It's just subjective, right? So it's not a real thing, but there's preference.
Starting point is 00:56:39 There's people that you're just not head over heels over, but you're just kind of, maybe they are to you. They really prefer you. You don't really prefer them. But you're like, I can go out with them, have a good time, talk a little bit, practice telling my stories, give this person a great opportunity. I mean, don't do that opportunistically. One of my friends that I have a hit podcast called Girls Got to Eat, which is off the concept of women who just go on these dates to eat. So girls got to eat.
Starting point is 00:57:03 It's not that. But it's more just like, I can spend, I mean, I'm not going to have sex with either one of you. I mean, the night's still young. But we're having a lovely time, you know? We're having a lovely time. We made most podcasts, I'll never talk to you guys again. I'll never see you again. I might bump into you somewhere.
Starting point is 00:57:23 That's the sort of thing. But we're having an amazing time together. So, like, that's what mojo is. So it's, if you may, if you kind of lost your flow, when you want to learn how to dunk a basketball, do you wait until the fourth quarter of the final game to try? No. You practice in a low-stakes environment. So don't go for the person that you've been like lusting after at your office for like 10 years, but you couldn't because you were in a marriage. And like now it's your shot. And like your mojo's way down right now. You want to get that engine up so that when you do those things, it's good. But be ethical and kind along the way. Especially to yourself. Yeah. Yeah. So what percentage of sex problems are actually sex problems and not like relationship problems dressed in lingerie? What's, what?
Starting point is 00:58:10 because there's a fine line there isn't there? Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's a fine line. It depends. For some people, it's not a fine line. It's very, like they're in boxes. And for some people, they're the same thing. So I think that it would depend. I mean, if you're having, I mean, it's obvious answer.
Starting point is 00:58:25 If you're having erectile dysfunction, if you're having vaginismis or pain, if you're feeling really dry. Like, there's obvious, very physical things. But then again, those physical things can be a result. I always tell people this, like, if you're bracing for me to punch you in the arm right now, right? you're going to lock up so that the impact will be different than if you were relaxed.
Starting point is 00:58:45 Now it's a massage, right? So the way that my body interprets, it depends on my state, my emotional state there too. So I just think that it's hard. It's too hard to answer that question. Just, are you happy? Are you good? Right. Do you feel fulfilled?
Starting point is 00:58:59 Do you feel like the best version of yourself is possible with them? Do you like yourself around that person? Do you like your body around that person? Are you curious about your body? Are you curious about theirs? and then yeah, there's a bunch of other, you know, you can decide where the problem is, but you just know you got a problem. Is there something when it comes to sex that couples normalize that you think is an actual problem?
Starting point is 00:59:22 Like, disdain. What do you mean by that? Destain, like you're kind of like put off by the person. You know what I mean? Like there's a little bit of like. But what, in terms of sex, your sexual relationship, what do you mean? It could even be that. Just having sex with somebody that you really don't like anymore.
Starting point is 00:59:36 You're just not curious about anymore. Right. And you're almost like, I think when I think of disdain, I think of I'm anticipating your next move and I'm already rolling my eyes. Right. Okay, this is great. So how do you keep? I don't want to ask that same cliche question. How do you keep the fire life?
Starting point is 00:59:52 But how do you keep that interest alive with someone who like knows where your spanks is? You're so unknowable. So like if knowing where your spanks is, is their opinion of knowing you, they don't know shit. Well, he doesn't even know where the ketchup bottle is. So he definitely doesn't know where my spanks is. Yeah. I mean, sometimes the truth that matter is, we're so unknowable, there's always more to know. I mean, obviously, the more you do, the more new information you get back. So, you know, if you're not leaving the house, you don't have any friends, you don't have any hobbies or interest. Maybe you are completely knowable because you're not getting any new information or input. I mean, as long as you have curiosity, you are unknowable. Like, your perspective is going to change one moment to the next. And even feelings, right? Like, I could assume that you're still feeling sentimental. You might be feeling hungry now, right? So, yeah. There's the switch. There we go.

It's called Don't Lie to Me. I'm Lexi Youan.
Starting point is 01:02:06 We're two best friends, 22 years apart, but so close at heart. And I'm Lisa DiGulio. The old one, which means we have wildly different references, occasionally different opinions, and at this point in my 50s, I've lived it all. I'm not going to get anyone fighting. That is wild. I learned that about you today. Now in my 30s, being the founder of new shoes, good taste is my business, and I've always
Starting point is 01:02:32 got something to say. If men were just honest about this, there would be so much more peace in the world. We're going to talk about dating, relationships, beauty, getting older, and a little We're best friends, but we don't always agree. Because you told us how accommodating you are. Obviously, I would do what I think I could do to fight the fight, but there's only so much fight I can fight. Don't lie to me.
Starting point is 01:02:54 Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Don't lie to me. Liar. Listen on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I don't really care. Hi, this is Kylie Breakman.
Starting point is 01:03:09 Angel Geratana. Jeremy Colhane, Patrick McDonald. And we're the hosts of the Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists Podcast. The Improvised Character Comedy Podcast where each week a new panel of artists discuss their craft. Join us for a panel of wellness influencers. What I try to do is faux journal. I don't know. Have you guys heard of faux journaling? Yeah, it's reading. It's called reading.
Starting point is 01:03:30 So we don't like to use that word anymore. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton classes? No! I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14. That's crazy.
Starting point is 01:03:50 I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday, and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30. No way. You have to come to the last bookstore, though. Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks on Halloween.
Starting point is 01:04:10 He gets right up next to the microphone. I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit each other. You never seen Italy so quiet as when the Pope gets up to wink on Halloween. Listen to artists on artists on artists on artists on the IHeard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's take another call. Hi, I've been with my partner now for about five years and I've a very vulnerable sex question. He loves going down on me and I don't love it. what are some tips that you have that can make me feel comfortable for him to go down there?
Starting point is 01:04:53 First and foremost, worst and foremost, you know, if you like it, at the end of the day, sometimes things swing. So when I first started as a sex educator, the big thing was where's the clitoris? Everyone's like, you can't find that thing, right? And now we all know where the clitoris is. And then many people understand that most women are going to orgasm from, outer clitoral stimulation versus penetration. And so I think some men know this information.
Starting point is 01:05:20 Not according to porn. Not according to porn. And also not according to everyone. Yeah. For some people, the head of the clitoris is actually so sensitive that they prefer penetration because they get less direct stimulation of the clitoris, which is the argument that it's all clitoris. It's just in terms of, is it the inner clitoris or the outer clitoris?
Starting point is 01:05:39 So some men are like, I have read Cosmo and I know women like clitoral stimulation. So I'm going to give you the best, you know, outer clitor stimulation. Maybe for you it's your nipples or maybe for you it is penetration or maybe it's the booty, right? Like so maybe your partner is trying to like be a tour guide on your body. I've read this article, women like this. And then you're like, but I don't. And I know you're trying to do a good thing. So if it's that, then that's a different conversation of just like, you know what my friend does?
Starting point is 01:06:09 She said that she always tells her partner like things that he's done that he's never done before. like I loved it when you were just like going crazy on my nipples I loved it and he's like oh did you he's like he has not done that but that's kind of inception so if you want to steer him in different direction communication yeah well you can also do it in a kind way you don't have to do it like sometimes we think we're talking about sex means talking about what we don't like right
Starting point is 01:06:33 and talking about sex should be just like having sex fun spontaneous curiosity driven cool hot yeah so you can deliver the message without being like the way that you're licking my vulva is unpleasurable. I want you to stop. So do you think that that is maybe the problem there? Is it that? It could be that or shame.
Starting point is 01:06:56 Or shame. It could be as simple as me. Or maybe, like, it sounds like the tone of her voice sounds like she was like loving about it, about him. But when she said he loves going down on me, but I don't like it. Could it also be that he's not doing it right? this is why calls don't really work. Where are you at?
Starting point is 01:07:17 Yeah. What's the details? What's the call back? We need to call you back. Because yeah, there could be so many different. Wait, so describe what he's doing? Yeah, but sometimes you could, is it all the time? Because sometimes you could just be like you're not in the mood for that.
Starting point is 01:07:30 Right. And there's nothing wrong with that. You know, if you're just not in the mood for that at that moment is different than I don't like it. An ongoing problem. But also, if you don't like it, how is that a problem? Like it's not a problem. Just you have to say, hey, I'm not really. That's not something I enjoy for this reason or that reason.
Starting point is 01:07:51 And is there anything wrong with that? There's nothing wrong with that. Not everybody has to enjoy the most wonderful thing ever. Yeah. Some people don't like the great thing. Yeah, they're not my people. Like we don't eat pizza. Some people hate dogs, you know?
Starting point is 01:08:12 No. No, no, that's exactly what I'm saying. So how do you, that's, but that's fine. Yeah, I mean, like I said, it could be that it's just too sensitive. That's not her thing. And that's not a bad thing. You can steer somebody to somewhere else. You can also, vulnerability is always such a great tool too.
Starting point is 01:08:27 Like, rather than I don't like, it's like, I don't know what I like. You know, I'm feeling a little bit this. Pleasure mapping is really great with your partner. Can we have a pleasure mapping session? I've been really curious by my own body of lay. I'm not really quite sure what I like. I'm changing right now. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:40 Let's just like go slow and touch everywhere. and then ask the questions, hard or soft, slow or fast, lube or no loob. Do you want it hot or cold? So, wet or dry. So you can ask a bunch of questions and then you map. I also think pain mapping is a really good exercise. Especially, like, if you're dealing with somebody who has any type of changes for me after having kids, pain mapping was very important because I'm like, again, the tense-up thing.
Starting point is 01:09:06 There's a part of my cervix that now really hurts. And because you don't know where it is, I tense up whenever you're in there because I just don't know. But if I can tell you it's to the right at the back, now we avoid any position that goes there, I can actually relax again. So pain mapping is just as important as pleasure mapping.
Starting point is 01:09:24 We could be answering this question so wrong, but guess what? Hopefully that this person is not dealing with shame. And if they are dealing with shame, oh my gosh. That's a whole other thing. Because she sounded very vulnerable. She started off.
Starting point is 01:09:37 I said, I'm going to ask something that's very vulnerable. So it's making her very... And she said it's a second partner too, right? Was it? No, it wasn't. I've been with somebody for five years. For five years. So if you're with somebody for five years
Starting point is 01:09:46 and you're still feeling like, oh, he likes to do this. And every time he does this, I'm not into it. Oh, like, oh, that's got to be horrible. Like, you've got to talk about that. Yeah. Or ask, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:59 Like, how does it taste, Daddy? Yeah. Like, is it okay down there? Right. What does it look like? You know, even if you're just asking, because sometimes that's it to, We feel like we have to construct confidence alone.
Starting point is 01:10:11 This is an intimate experience. If I am struggling with shame, if I'm struggling with confidence, we should be working on this together. Yeah. Because you obviously think I'm amazing. You're having sex with me. So just say that and express that. And like, here's how I like it to be expressed to me.
Starting point is 01:10:24 And then, yes, I'll do the work and go to yoga and look at Volvo books and find mine. And, you know, smell myself every day for a month to kind of figure out my sense. Just get really comfortable with yourself. Yeah. That's easier said than done. I mean, not if you make it operational. Get a swab for a month. You get a calendar, mark it off.
Starting point is 01:10:45 Every day, smell yourself. Every day, look at yourself. See it in different, like, or get a vulva book and look through them. Ask friends about what theirs looks like and be like, can you be honest? Honey, what's it look like? It's gorgeous. Not your own vulva. Not their vulva.
Starting point is 01:11:00 They got to talk about their own vulva. Or ask a friend. Yeah, but like, what's your vulva looking like, girl? I'm worried that mine's doing something that's not supposed to. Can we talk about it? Hey, can we get the check and then can I see you in the ladies in a second? Oh, look, is that cute?
Starting point is 01:11:13 Just real quick. Also, too, that is amazing. Yeah. Do you know what? They were saying that about Love Island. Again, I didn't watch Love Island, just so you guys know, but there was a relationship between two guys.
Starting point is 01:11:27 It wasn't necessarily gay, but it was very bromancy, romance plus. Right. So it was also compliments about like, you look hot today, bro. You look great. Oh, you look like you get in the gym. Jim, you look buff.
Starting point is 01:11:39 Don't look me like that. And it may not have even been sexual. This is just what women give to each other. Yeah. To just be like, let me pump you up. Totally. For free. Why would I know to do my friends?
Starting point is 01:11:49 More men should do that. Yeah. Just pump each other. So maybe your friends too can be like, your vulva looks cute in those jeans. You're like, I'm working on my butt. And only my friends know that. Nobody in the real world knows because no one. My goal is one day to walk and someone is like, that fat ass.
Starting point is 01:12:06 What? That's your goal? That's my goal, too, because let me tell you something. After menopause, you know, you start losing a little bit of muscle. I've never had a booty, and now I have, like, booty minus. And so I am like, every single exercise is saved, and I'm like, yes, I need to get a booty. But you see, if you told your friends that, and now that I know that, next time I see you, if I see progress, if I don't, I won't lie to you. I'm going to be like, okay, junior whopper.
Starting point is 01:12:36 Okay. You know? That's what friends do. Yes, group project getting confidence. Yes, it is. It is. The Hard Rock Beck Casino app is here, Ontario. With exclusive games like Hard Rock and Reels,

Listen to artists on artists on artists on artists on the IHeard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, let's do one more call. Hey, so my question is I'm thinking about bringing a third person into the bedroom,
Starting point is 01:16:40 but I don't know how to even start that conversation. with my boyfriend. I don't know if he's going to be excited or think I'm like slutty or weird or I don't know. I'm just trying to spice things up and I've always wanted to try it. I'm just wondering how to even bring that up.
Starting point is 01:17:00 Well, this is right up your alley. Don't do it, girl. You're wondering how to bring it up? Then don't, like, that's like being like I'm trying to get to China. But you haven't gone to the airport yet. Right. You haven't even bought the ticket. You didn't research.
Starting point is 01:17:14 you're going, there's no hotel when you get there. Yeah. You know what I mean? You're at the beginning. There's so many steps between we have sex alone to we now invite another person into the bedroom. What are those steps? Strip club together. Maybe just going out with groups of friends and kind of
Starting point is 01:17:30 flirting. Going out with another couple and talking about your sex life. Did you guys watch the invitation? Yes. Which that's not, that's an extreme. It's a Hollywood example. But even think about that conversation happening after four conversations. Because in most cases, not on, hey, we came over to tell you're having sex too loud, or are we going to now
Starting point is 01:17:49 offer to have sex with each other? It would just be, you're having sex too loud. And then like, but did you like to hear it? And you're like, oh, then you breeze past it. Then they leave. And you're like, she said to me. And then now you guys talk about, it's slow, right? Like, the actual buildup to the thing is so slow. Exactly. So you, we had a friend, a couple. Oh my God. I was just thinking about the same thing. So this was like a newer couple friend. and they had invited us to their house for a dinner party. And they were lovely. They really were.
Starting point is 01:18:19 And we'd had a few cocktails. So by the end of the night, when we were saying goodbye, you know, instead of like the kiss, like they, they both tried to kiss us, like make out. Like to kiss us. Like, you know what you're trying to like turn the cheek and you're like, like, at first it felt like, oh, oh, he just missed the cheek. And he was, oh, it was just an awkward. It was nothing. Right. But then the second time we saw them.
Starting point is 01:18:45 The same thing happened. We talked about it in the car because I forget whether you said it or I said it. I was like, did he try to make out with you? Yeah. And by the way, both of them were both of us. Yes. It was so funny. And so I was like, yeah, I felt like, no, I can't be there.
Starting point is 01:19:00 I was like, I really liked them. She did too. And I was like, oh, okay. Yeah, she did that to me too, whatever. Yeah. But we kind of clocked it and we were like, that was kind of interesting. Maybe they were just a little tipsy and it was nothing. But then the next time we should.
Starting point is 01:19:11 I was like, I don't know, I think this is the thing. Here it comes. So you're right. Give me a big up. Yeah, this would be like the perfect situation where there is a little something. And then now you guys have had the conversation. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 01:19:28 And would you? No. No. Not with them or just not? No. Definitely not with them. No. And I don't think no.
Starting point is 01:19:36 I don't think that. I don't think so. I don't think so. But why do you not think so? Why do you think it is? I think that I'm speaking just for me because I think it works well for some people. I would feel that what we have is ours and it is a choice to be with each other and not with anybody else. I can't imagine a scenario where we would both go.
Starting point is 01:20:16 Let's do that because I would be jealous or I would feel, it wouldn't make me feel good. And I don't have the desire to do it with another woman to the point where I'd be okay with that. You know what I mean? And I would, and I'd also, I would just never feel comfortable. First of all, I wouldn't want to, but second of all, I wouldn't feel comfortable.
Starting point is 01:20:44 I just feel like that's not our thing. Yeah, I think with me, I know some people get off on seeing their partner feel things and do things with somebody else. And I get that that would not make me feel good. Right. That's what I'm saying. Like, you know, I'm all for like,
Starting point is 01:21:03 I want you to feel great and have like your best life. You're talking about feeling versus thinking, right? Yes, yes. I can intellectually understand how that's erotic. I totally understand it intellectually. But I know that I, seeing that would make me feel terrible. Yeah. Yeah, that's not an image that I would enjoy.
Starting point is 01:21:25 And then there's the other question of, you know, well, what about if you just, if I know that you're having a thing. Oh. But I'm not seeing it. I think that that's a different situation because then you're getting into the conversation of... Yeah, but then the pictures in your mind are obviously going to be... Well, okay, look at. Let me ask you two more questions. Would you have sex with another couple in the same room?
Starting point is 01:21:50 You guys are not touching. No. I don't think I'd be into that. I think I would be too, like, too concerned too in my head. I would be too not like The word for me I can tell you is intimacy Like I don't play well with others Okay what about a tantra group class
Starting point is 01:22:14 Oh that might be fun There we go There's our first plane ticket I feel like you're grooming us No no what I'm saying is that this lady is asking for that Yes and that's going to be of course That's a gut check to anybody I was on a podcast actually
Starting point is 01:22:29 And the girl was asking me all these open relationships questions. And at one point I had to say to her, would you eat ice cream if it fell from the sky? I was like, would you? She was like, what? I was like, girl, what are you asking me? Yeah. Would I, if my husband came home with the, with the basketball team from the sparks, would I allow them to mother my children? Girl, I don't know. That's so far from my reality. Yeah. So incredible. What if he diss and that? That's not even been remotely close to my experience. Yeah. He's gone on trips and had experiences. Yeah. Other than that, you watch my YouTube. channels, you know my man is obsessed.
Starting point is 01:23:04 You know we're obsessed. Like, I don't have to live in that reality. So that to be said, like, when you're asking someone to go to a reality that's so far from theirs, why would they say yes? Right. So find the reality that's somewhat close. Maybe it's a webcam person that you guys just do. Maybe it is a strip club.
Starting point is 01:23:20 Maybe it's even just talking about your old sexual partners. Some couples can't do that. Yeah. Not just talking. Don't talk shit about them. Right. You're like, I had this one accent. Like this is on a part.
Starting point is 01:23:31 podcast once. And this guy told me about this girl who was like a really great squirder and she had this magnificent trick. And he's like, but I could never tell this story. I was like, why not? You know? And it's just like, maybe you can even have those conversations with your partner. So that, and then see how they react to that. So is that something we can learn? Yeah. I'm asking for friends. I mean, I don't. I'm asking for a friend. I just think, you know, it's just, it's gradual, it's slow. And it should be that. If it's a gut check to you, oh, take it off the table. Yeah. I do think that hidden in this conversation, that's an important thing, is the sexual curiosity. I love that we have such an open communication about the topic of sex, not just our sex life, but just what people do.
Starting point is 01:24:23 And I think a lot of people don't feel comfortable talking to their partner about it. And we are really fascinated with, like, what does everybody doing? I want to know what everybody's doing. Oh, that doesn't really appeal to me. That's not for me, but I want to know everything because we're very curious about it. It doesn't necessarily mean curious in terms of participation. It just means, but my point is, and I think that what your point was, even having that curiosity and having an open communication about it.
Starting point is 01:24:51 We'll tell you where you stand. And it's also like a never say never kind of thing. Like, you know, I just can't imagine, but. Yeah. No, I've never had a threesome. I've never had a second. experience with a woman before. I've never even done anal before.
Starting point is 01:25:05 I know almost everything. I don't know almost everything. I know a lot about sex. But I also know myself. I know my body. You know what you like and I'm curious about it and I'm interested in it, but I know the conditions that it would make sense for me.
Starting point is 01:25:15 Exactly. And I just haven't met those yet. So just because you're saying yes to curiosity and to intrigue and to conversation, it doesn't mean that you're going to jump into it because you also may revere and respect. When I hear people talk about threesomes and how amazing they've been,
Starting point is 01:25:29 I'm like, I want those conditions. And like we went once and we met somebody in another city where like this was great. And like, you know, we came back home. I'm like, do you think we would if we ever did? He's like, you know, maybe. And I was like, maybe, okay. We went back to that place. We hung out with that person.
Starting point is 01:25:45 And I was like, I'm not feeling it. Yeah. He's like, neither am I. I'm like, let's go home. That's awesome. You know what I mean? Can I tell one is this isn't too personal a story because I think it's great before we got married. But we'd been together for a bit.
Starting point is 01:25:58 We went to a show in New York that was kind of like, Oh. It was an off-Broadway show. It wasn't a Broadway show. It was like in a warehouse. It took place in a warehouse. It was called Cino More. Ceno more. Interactive.
Starting point is 01:26:11 You guys have a fun life. You do. And the concept was groups of people, like we went with a group of like eight people. They separate you. So no, you don't, you don't get to be with any of your people. It's dark. It's dark. And you're wearing a mask.
Starting point is 01:26:27 And everyone has the same mask. Eyes wide shut? Yes. It's very eyes wide shut. Very. But it's basically. based on, it's loosely based on the Shakespeare play Macbeth
Starting point is 01:26:36 through all these little hints of that story. You become part of that story. And at one point and you just wander, you're not guided. It's like a big museum of but human stuff going on. You can't really tell it's like, ooh, there's a clue there and some it. A lot of it is not. A lot of it is not very sexual. There was one, yeah. There was one human stuff going on. Yeah, yeah. Just human
Starting point is 01:26:57 interaction, whether it would be conversations or arguments in this room. And then there's all actors. behind a glass, like a museum? Like right there. Oh, wow. And you could wander into these rooms. And in one of the rooms, there was a couple. They weren't, they were simulating sex.
Starting point is 01:27:12 They weren't having sex. There was a naked woman in a bathtub in one room. Since the actors are carrying on while you're walking in and out of the rooms. So that's that night, because we both really enjoyed it. But it, you know, not that we needed any help, but it heightened our, hotness for each other to be in that atmosphere. You guys have sex in the car. Well, I mean, it's just, it was, well,
Starting point is 01:27:40 the best thing is that, you know, everybody's wearing a mask and you're separated, and there's hundreds of people involved in this, right? And at one point, I'm standing behind, like, 20 people. And I'm looking over to see what they're all looking at, and I feel his hand, grab my ass. No, I grabbed your crotch.
Starting point is 01:27:58 Oh, right. I grabbed your junk. I feel my crotch. I came up from behind him and grabbed him, and grabbed his junk. Right. And I went like this and I turned in and I realized it was her. What did that feel like? It was so hot. But I was like, how did you know it was me? Because it's dark. Yeah. And she's, well, I was glad it was you. She said, I know you're, and this was kind of still early on in our relationship. She goes, I just looked and over and I saw you and I was like, oh, I know that's him.
Starting point is 01:28:29 Yeah. The way you. The or the way you stand. the way, like, I know your shadow. I know you. And it was so hot. But I, my point is, for wine to she grabbed two other guys by accident before grabbing you. I don't like to think about that. Finally, you got the right one.
Starting point is 01:28:46 I'm playing. I just, I think it's important to like, and that is an indication of sexual curiosity and being open and not like, like, like, there are relationships where if I'd said, and I think it was your idea to go. see the show. But there are so many relationships where if somebody said, hey, there's this show and it's kind of erotic and blah, blah, and the other person would go, why do you need to see that?
Starting point is 01:29:09 Yeah. Yeah. Because it's all insecurity. You know what I mean? Instead of being really like, yeah, let's go check it out. I'm fascinated by it. Yeah. Yeah, but those are the best relationships when you feel like you can, you know, you're either both not into it or you're curious about it. You guys, it's so cool. It kind of is. It's so cool. Yeah. You guys are really cool. You're very cool. You're very cool, man. That's so cool. Like, you know, people I know who've been together for a really long time are just breaking up.
Starting point is 01:29:41 And my husband was saying to me, he's like, man, if you're trying to break up with me at that point, like, when we get to get to the place where our main focus is loving each other, like that's our number one job. Yeah. Like, family's decent. Everyone's kind of good. Things are at a place where you don't have to be, if I don't, then this whole thing crumbles. for so much of your life. You're like, if I don't get up or if I don't do this
Starting point is 01:30:03 and this whole thing crumbles if I don't go to work. And now you're at a place where you're like, think everything is decent-ish. Now we can just love and experiment and try different things
Starting point is 01:30:14 to do a podcast together where we get to flirt the whole time. You've been flirting the whole time. We have? Yeah, the whole time. Yeah. I actually thought that we should have just ended this
Starting point is 01:30:23 a long time ago. Oh, I love that. I truly did. I love that. After your first answer to how you feel, When you gave that speech, I was like, oh, life is too short not to take this moment and just like walk out this door. Pick her up, you know, and just be like, let's go get ice cream.
Starting point is 01:30:39 And I'll just sit here and be like, but you're right. You know, life is too short to not enjoy yourself, to not enjoy your partner, to not enjoy sex. Yeah. To not enjoy all of it, no matter what stage of life you're in. If you're lucky enough to be in a dynamic where you really like the person that you're with, but that you're hot for them. Because believe it or not, I think that that's not the norm in most relationships I'm aware of. There's love there or there's heat but really not. Like, I know men who love having sex with their partner, but they don't really like them all that much.
Starting point is 01:31:14 Yep. They don't want to sit and talk to them. Life is too short for that. You know, how do you get to know somebody in this new version of their life? like let's say you've been married for a long time. There's a book that I love. It's called How to Know a Person. It's by David Brooks who wrote a book called The Social Animal,
Starting point is 01:31:34 that I love, the Second Mountain that I love. He is an incredible mind. And it's such a phenomenal book because you're like, yeah, why isn't this book handed out in schools? Right. Because we're like, oh, I know how to know people. Do you? Because I listen to people listen.
Starting point is 01:31:48 A lot of people don't listen. They're only thinking about something else and you think that you're listening. A lot of people are like, right? truly. I know them. And then you ask one trivia question. They don't know that shit. Yeah. So you're like, okay, so I think that it's just something very beautiful what you guys have. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. The harmony is there. The intention is there. The fire is there and the curiosity. I think that's the piece that, you know, that when you feel like there's nothing
Starting point is 01:32:15 interesting left to know. I feel like there's a lot of interesting things left to know about you guys. I hope so. We're going to keep learning. Yeah. We're going to keep asking. We're to keep listening. This was really fun and such a pleasure to meet you. Yes. I'm not so weird. We just sat down as strangers and just went. I love that. There should be more of that.
Starting point is 01:32:36 If I had a nickel for every time I heard the word clitoris today, I'd have like 50 cents. Well, what great conversation I could talk to Shan all day. Yeah, I mean, it's an endless topic. Yeah, so interesting. Yeah. And she's fascinating and I really, really loved it. Yeah.
