I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? Answer, a new podcast called Wisecrack, where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling true crime story. Does anyone know what show they've come to see?
Starting point is 00:01:55 It's a story. It's about the scariest night of my life. This is Wisecrack. available now listen to wisecrack on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts this is the ben and ashley i almost famous podcast with iheart radio hey everyone welcome to the almost famous podcast today i am joined by my good friend and um somebody who went on the whole pretty much the whole bachelor journey with me carly waddell hey carly how you doing good so I'm just gonna like I don't start off these podcasts gently like I don't Ben like eases everybody into it I'm just like let's just get to it um Carly so we're just talking about the golden bachelor on the headlines episode with you and you were talking about like it's never too late to find love and you have been you've been divorced legally for like two years now yes okay so like are you dating do you want to get married again
Starting point is 00:02:58 Yes, yes. Okay, great. Would you have kids? Would you have more kids? Maybe. Okay. I'm almost 40. I don't want to do it after I'm 40, but I do have frozen eggs.
Starting point is 00:03:11 That changes a lot of things. Yeah. So I guess like if you find a guy that hasn't, doesn't have like any of his own kids and he really wanted them, you could use the eggs. Yes. Cool. You're right. Just an interrogation. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:27 But like, let's talk about dating. have you gone on a date within the past two years with anybody that you were like I'd like to be in a relationship with them yes are you in a relationship right now oh my god she's dating someone yeah how long has it been um like four months so not okay that's great yeah okay awesome can you give us like any hints you know he's older than me he's which was what you wanted exactly what i wanted he's like literally everything I've ever wanted in a human. But, you know, like we were talking on the headlines episode about like keeping stuff private. And I just feel like for as long as I can, I'm going to do that. But yes, no, I am
Starting point is 00:04:14 definitely seeing one human. So this is kind of like a soft launch. Thank you for giving it to the almost famous podcast. Has he met the kids? Yes. Do they like him? Yeah, they love him. Oh my God. So is it a friend of mommy's or is it boyfriend now? And it's boyfriend. Cool. Oh, my God. I'm so happy for you.
Starting point is 00:04:38 Thank you. Oh, my gosh. You're so happy. You're so happy. I know. It's kind of crazy. It's crazy because he met me when all this, like, I feel like the last couple years I've been really like, I've just been like, and even, like, there's not been a lot of changes
Starting point is 00:04:53 in my life. And then all of a sudden, like, now it's like, tours are happening and music's happening, all this crazy stuff and I'm like whoa you met me at the craziest time but he's like so supportive and like it's so great to have around when like craziness I feel like it's happening my life um but no he's great doesn't it always happen like that like the time that you don't expect like the time that you probably were like okay this is all about me I'm releasing music I'm going to go on a tour you're like yeah this is a this is my moment and now you have it somebody to share it with which is great yeah yeah yeah he's a good one are you open
Starting point is 00:05:28 telling us how you guys met oh my gosh okay you're ready for a ridiculous story okay so i watched like i watched the today show all the time me too it's my morning routine a little coffee and like the today show in the background hoda like you can't get better too same um so anyway we also have like a today show in nashville and um i my tv was on mute and i was like bringing charlie something in the other room like a snack or something and it was like a two o'clock in the afternoon and I like walked by I was like man that whoever that is on that TV show being interviewed is handsome and and he was like talking about his business like being interviewed about his business on his local national business yes and and then like I walked back through the TV and I was like I got to remember his name
Starting point is 00:06:23 he's like too handsome so then I like you know obviously like looked up as business but it wasn't for like a week but I was like oh gosh I like this is so stupid like he can't be obsessed with some guy I saw on TV that's so ridiculous you're talking to the wrong person you of course can be I'm like not again you know and then I found him on it I found his business and I found his Instagram and he had pictures of kids on his Instagram and and it ended up being which I found out was his niece and nephew but I was like man I was like that's like he loves kids obviously and so I followed him and then um like very drunk one night followed him and then like three days later he liked this old video of Charlie from like two years
Starting point is 00:07:13 ago and I was like this guy's like deep dive in and oh my gosh yes and so then like another week past his by and I was out with my girlfriend's I was like I have a crush on this guy and Instagram, but like, I haven't talked to him yet. They're like, okay, by the end of this night, you're going to say something. So then I had like, I think I liked something of his that night. And then I just slid into his DMs and said, LOL, are we just going to keep liking each other's stuff? And then he said, well, to be very, like, you followed me first or something.
Starting point is 00:07:43 And I was like, true. And he was like, I'm old school. I'd love to call you. And I was like, okay. And then, yeah, our first date was like, like I remember I called my mom and I was like I don't know what's going to happen with this man but I will measure up every first date to what that was like from now on because it was just like
Starting point is 00:08:03 unbelievable oh my god that's so special he has he been married before no he's been engaged um but no kids no kids okay this is good stuff I'm really happy for me all right I like the giggles we'll let we'll let you reveal everything else because my initial interrogation questions are over great let's talk about your career now oh are you writing songs about him is he inspiring music you know what i haven't i've been too like preoccupied with all the other stuff but yes i want to write one about him but i'm not quite sure what that looks like yet okay well your music is so good
Starting point is 00:08:45 if you guys have not checked out carly's music you can just type in her name on spotify and apple music. It is so catchy. I love it so much. And it's emotional and it's just, it's beautiful. I love it. And what inspired you to finally put out music after being like the singer girl from the show for a while? I mean, honestly, you know, when I was going through all this divorce stuff, I remember I was actually talking to Paul or agent and he was like, well, what makes you happy? And I was like, like, singing in music. And he was like, so do it. And I was like, okay. And so he actually found me some writers to write with and a producer and who this guy ended up becoming like one of my greatest friends now. But really, it was just like I was trying to like find myself again.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I feel like I got lost in a marriage and I got, you know, kind of lost in motherhood, which is very easy to do. And with both of those things, but then coming out of it, like I was just like, who am I and what do I? I want to even say to the world. And I was like, well, the thing I've always said is through music. So it kind of just started with me trying to like find myself again. And then I really just wanted to write like fun songs that I would enjoy singing. And then like that girls could drink too on a boat. You know, I was like, I just want to do something really fun.
Starting point is 00:10:08 And so I feel like, I feel like that's what I accomplished. Even though my whole EP isn't out yet, the next song is really fun that's going to come out. But so they're all singles right now. And eventually they'll be. compiled into an EP and you mentioned you know your past relationship a bit where do you stand with with Evan right now are you guys like in just like a you consider yourself like friendly co-parents yeah I mean we don't have to talk that much because or we don't talk it's not like we're co-parents that like talk just to catch up with each other right right we like just
Starting point is 00:10:46 exchange the kids there's a purpose to talk you know um Um, but yeah, I mean, we're doing it the best way we know how. So yeah, we're getting it done. We're doing it. Our kids are very happy. Okay. That's good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Very wonderful. So you are on tour now or you're about to embark on a tour. You've already done the, you've opened for Nick Carter. Yes. So Nick Carter invited me to his first, to his show in Nashville, but then also invited me. on the rest of his tour. Like, did it just work out so well in Nashville that he was like, let's just continue this?
Starting point is 00:11:26 Well, it was kind of like before. So, um, again, Paul, here's Paul again. Yeah, no, Paul's been very supportive of this whole, the whole music and touring thing, which I love. And, you know, he, he loves the, the Nick Carter team over there, too. Oh, my God. Well, they're so nice. But, so anyway, he was, they were looking for somebody to, like, come, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:48 to the Nashville show. and sing a few songs and he's like, you have to have Carly on there. And then they started listening to my music and then they kind of thought I was a mom
Starting point is 00:11:56 and all this things. Then I'm like the same age group as, you know, backstreet boy fans. And they're like, wait a second, like we would love to have her like continue with us.
Starting point is 00:12:06 And so within like, it was Paul saying, hey, do you want to sing with Nick Carter at the Nashville show? And I was like, what are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:12:15 Absolutely. And then like 20 minutes later I was like, hey, do you want to go on tour with him? And I was like, what are you do you do? So, it was so fast.
Starting point is 00:12:24 So, I mean, it all happens so quickly. And now our first show is November 9th in Ohio. So we're like me. And the girl is going with me to play guitar is actually my nant. Well, she used to be my nanny, but then my kids went to school. But she's an artist in town. So she's going with me as my guitarist and kind of like duo partner sort of on this whole. I love it.
Starting point is 00:12:50 My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Well, wait a minute, Sam, maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy?
Starting point is 00:13:16 That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend. boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age. It's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet.
Starting point is 00:13:32 So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Imagine that you're on an airplane and all of a sudden you hear this. Attention passengers, the pilot is having to have. Having an emergency and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane. Think you could do it? It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control.
Starting point is 00:14:03 And they're saying like, okay, pull this, until this. Do this, pull that, turn this. It's just, I can do it my eyes close. I'm Manny. I'm Noah. This is Devon. And on our new show, no such thing. We get to the bottom of questions like these.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence. who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise. And then, as we try the whole thing out for real, wait, what? Oh, that's the run right. I'm looking at this thing.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Listen to no such thing on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, my name is Enya Humanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie,
Starting point is 00:14:50 and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now.
Starting point is 00:15:11 A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was. Most everything was burned up pretty good from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime.
Starting point is 00:15:34 A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. And I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab,
Starting point is 00:15:52 we'll learn about victims and survivors, and you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless cases to finally solve the unsolvable. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Are you guys going to do wet? because you guys did an amazing reel where he said like Carly will you accept this rose to be on my tour which is incredible love it like yeah it was the funniest because we just met right before we filmed that so it was kind of like trying to fill each other out but we both just like went for it and it was so funny I mean the first time he came up to me with it we both just started laughing and then he was like okay no we got this we got this and I was like yeah we got this um but yeah we um brought me back for his encore is like two or three songs um and so he brought me back to sing um i want it that way with him okay so he is singing back straight songs yes he's singing quite a few but he sings
Starting point is 00:17:01 for three hours what how does this person do it he's like a machine oh wow that is really impressive that's like taylor style yeah i know it's incredible so um are you guys going to like share a bus no he has a he has a bus do you have like a van what are you doing and i my my nanny my now i can't call her that anymore she isn't anymore but we're like flying to a few locations and then we're driving to most of them just okay yeah yeah because everything's like kind of like four to six hours yeah yeah it's easy yeah were you are you backstreet or team insane like what were you i was both okay are you allowed to be both i was just going to say it yeah i know it's kind of I mean, no, I knew all the songs from both of them and liked all.
Starting point is 00:17:48 I mean, I feel like everybody did. You just, like, had some sort of loyalty toward one or the other. Like, I used to have battles on the playground. Like, we were really embarrassing. So my really good friend in elementary school, she was very team back. And, of course, I was very team in sync. And when you would come to the playground, we were ready to battle. What was the battle?
Starting point is 00:18:09 We came with disses on index cards. Oh, my God. And we would make fun of the other band until one day. telling you this is sixth grade she goes Ashley I feel like the battles are are are cutting into our friendship and I think we need to stop them and I was like oh my god this baby um yeah but like also secretly like I would listen to the backstreet boys album like almost as much and I blew my friend's eardrum out at a backstreet boys concert from screaming like literally juice came out of it so oh god yeah it's okay it's fine so it was just like a lot
Starting point is 00:18:41 a pent-up energy or love towards Backstreet, obviously, that I was just, like, hiding. So we're allowed to love both. Yeah, we're allowed to love both, I think. I mean, obviously, now I'm more of a Backstreet Boy fan, you know. Well, yeah. Are you going to read Brittany's biography? Because, or I think I, yes. Because I just bought it yesterday.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Like, listen, I. So much juicy gossip. I just, I feel like I honestly feel guilty because, on behalf of, like, just being a Justin fan to, like, read this book. And I was like, I know, I feel really bad because he's, like, going through it. Like, people are giving them lots of shit out there. Oh, I can't totally. Let's just acknowledge the fact that this was a breakup from half of his life ago.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Who would ever think that, like, with a marriage, you know, a long marriage and two kids that, like, your ex from over 20 years ago is going to expose everything. Like, you have to have some sort of empathy, okay? Like, do we think that that's fair? I don't, I don't, okay? Which is why I feel a little guilt that I have to. read the book and I also am reading the book as if like last night it was like 12 30 and I'm like can I go another chapter they're like three pages each because like I feel like it's like watching live like a sports game or like bachelor like a bachelor finale because I'm like do I have to like page through this
Starting point is 00:19:58 before I scroll on Instagram and see basically the entire book just written out right yeah yeah but so you also have like feelings where it's like this is kind of like I don't know and it's like it's not I mean, it's intense stuff. Yeah. It's not just like, you know, I made out with this guy. It's like. Exactly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:20 It's way more. I need to know all the things. I know. It's like, oh, Ashley, just like, why you got to be like that? I'm like, I don't know. Like, when did she start writing this? Like, right when she got out of her conservorship for that reason. But like, we all know that there's, this is like so off topic.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Okay, almost famous listeners. I know. But there's also like some discrepancy here. like she didn't she didn't do a photo shoot for it she did her people interview via email what yeah like i'm sorry there seems like there's something going on and then like she even posted on instagram and we all know that she's in charge of her own instagram that like what's been coming out is like more divisive than she wanted to be and she didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings or like it's controversial and it's like okay so so did you did you exactly like did you really tell the stories to
Starting point is 00:21:10 the ghostwriters then? Are they juicing it up for the book? Right, right. I don't know. All right, but. I don't know. Weird stuff. Interesting stuff.
Starting point is 00:21:19 But you know, when you get two millennials together, you got to talk about these things. And, you know, when she's going on tour with Nick Carter, the conversation's obviously going to evolve to this. I'm doing a Britney Spears song in my set. Which one? Toxic. Oh, I can't.
Starting point is 00:21:33 Is it a country version? Country Friday? Oh. Yeah. Yeah, it's cool. Like, I'm using stuff. All right. Well, Carly, you're just.
Starting point is 00:21:40 in it. We're just so happy for you professionally and personally. Is there anything else about your life? Oh, are the kids like, how the kids going to deal with tour? Well, it's only a week and a half. So, okay. I mean, the goal in my life really is to like do a million tours and like do this as a career. So they're one, just going to have to get used to it. And two, I mean, they have a dad and they have my parents. So like, they're very happy going to dads and they're very happy to go into grandma and grandpa. So yes, they'll miss me and I'll check in all the time. But I also like, I need some time to myself. And I need to do something I love to do. And honestly, I think that is one of the best things that you can teach your children is that like,
Starting point is 00:22:27 mommy wanted to be happy and do the things she loves most and then she did it. And you can do that too. You know? So I don't feel that model. A great role model. Oh my God. Yeah, wait till like they learn backstreet music and then you're like guess what i know actually i have to tell dawson this now because he's already into it be like guess what our friend carly is is like killing it and she's on tour with that guy that you've been watching the music videos of because he's like i just had a backst voice record my kids have been playing it it's so cool it's it's so funny and i'm like see this guy in this picture well who's your dream like next person to open for oh my gosh i mean I think the one of the greatest tours of all time
Starting point is 00:23:11 would be Carly Pierce and Carly Waddell. Carly and Carly on tour, would that? I think that is a realistic dream too. Thank you. Thank you. I just think that would be so cool. Because at first I was like, oh, no, there's another Carly that's already made it.
Starting point is 00:23:25 And then I was like, no, there could be two. We'll just go on tour together. Carly is a great singer name. You guys are great. I was named after Carly Simon. So there we go. Oh. Well, then of course you can go on tour together.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Thanks, Mom. all right so guys check out her music right now it's so good it is yeah it is great for a girl's night a get ready sash just type in her name into those into those music engines and um we are rooting for you to go on tour with carly peers and just like great success in all of this and with your new boyfriend love you so much i'll see you in about two weeks i can't wait see yeah bye Follow the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcasts on IHartRadio or subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.
Starting point is 00:24:10 My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious. Wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit.
