Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, luckily, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend's been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That seems inappropriate. Maybe find out how it ends by listening to the OK Storytime podcast and the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. Professionally, I started at Deadwell Records. From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, We get into the soul of the music and the purpose that drives it. This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast with IHartRadio. Hey guys, welcome to the almost sales podcast. We are hanging out here in Lake Tahoe.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Thanks to Protein 1 bars, they got us all here. Somehow, all of us have gotten here. Do you guys want the rundown for who is here? Well, right across the table for me, I am sitting with Crystal Nielsen. Are you going by Rodone? Rodone. And don't. But I'm not. I'm actually sticking with Crystal Nielsen. Actually, Coach Crystal. Okay. We'll get back to that in a second. We also have Annalise and Kaylin in the house and my fiance, Jared. Dean is somewhere as always. And he's with Wells golfing. He's with Wells golfing. And we have Tasha. Tasha, where is she? And Amanda Stanton. And Amanda with her daughter, kids. So that is quite a pack. And everybody flew out from somewhere else in California.
Starting point is 00:03:53 yeah um oh my goodness Vanessa is she around right now she's here too she has not yet arrived yet but the poor thing has been delayed like an entire 24 hours in uh chicago or something she's she's had some really bad plain experiences when it comes to coming out for i heart events i feel really bad for her this is like the second straight trip where she's been turned at an airport for hours on end it's like a curse yeah okay well um we're going to try to get down the line in about five minutes so this gives crystal and i some Girl talk time. Crystal was like seriously and we sat down and she was like, are you okay?
Starting point is 00:04:28 I'm fine. I'm just super frazzled. I need to like take like an hour. Come here, just giving your hands. Oh, you're going to do like a calming ritual. Yeah, I'm just going to take like a big breath in. And big breath out. I'm going to do that again.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Big breath in. Listeners out here following our lead. I'm just time in three. Last one. Breathe in. there we go feel better yeah a little bit it's those deep breaths girl you just got to like pull yourself back into your body and just like be present well you like walk literally ashley walks right in through the door sets your suitcase down and then comes up and like puts on her headset and i was like what like
Starting point is 00:05:10 we're doing this like you're going right in like what a boss woman jared and i came we we had a 6 a m flight out of boston this morning to taho had a layover in phoenix we were up till midnight last night For a good reason, we went to a Rob Thomas concert. We were now officially not just friendly with Rob, but you're like just straight up friends with him, which is pretty awesome. Is he coming to the wedding? There's a very slim chance, he said.
Starting point is 00:05:35 He has something to attend to with his wife that week, but he was invited and he very much appreciates the, you know, the sentiment. But he's super, super awesome. Jared has definitely got me on the Rob Thomas train. But then it was just like, it's just those, I think it's funny. When Ben's here, he's like, Ashley, you're getting married. Do you feel full of love right now? I'm like, then, yes, I'm going to say I feel full of love right now, but I really just full of freaking stress because it's that for, it's that last two months going into the wedding where you're like, I need that week to come now because these small details that I never would have thought would cross my mind come up. What is stressing out the most? Well, okay, just great example. My wedding planner just sent me an email. There was, we thought that the band was going to cover these movie scores that we're going to, play but the band doesn't have strings and i go what i go the whole point was to have a cello a violin
Starting point is 00:06:31 and a piano to play movie scores during dinner oh that would have been epic yeah it'd be awesome right this is one of like jerry detail oriented it's just it's one of i think personality here yeah no i'm super i'm like a plus i wonder you're so stressed out you want to break in cello so we found out that the orchestra so we have this band um they're coming in our wedding planner is just like obsessed with them but last week we realized that they've been calling themselves an orchestra but truly they're a band because there's no strings and i go oh i've been assuming an orchestra would have strings so anyway we're just like watch like a youtube clip of no i i know orchestra perform they have different varieties okay and we have the variety that
Starting point is 00:07:15 comes without the strings so we had to go and get a trio am i boring everyone already no no so we hat to go and get, um, figure out a trio in the area that could play our date. So my wedding planner and his team find one, but I just, while pulling up to this cabin, found out that they want to charge $2,800 for just 35 minutes. What? Wow. Eastern's eyes were like bug it out. Are we yeah. Willing so I'm like, are you freaking kidding me? You know, I have a solution. Can we just like sync up Spotify and just play it over a speaker to create the same effect. I don't think it'll be the same effect. You could hire like an actor, like those improv actors like pretend to play. And like really, they're not actually making any noise. Like it's just a
Starting point is 00:08:02 speaker. I'm just saying like when push comes a shove, let's be resourceful here. All right. I think I'm going to. I got a 1099 a month subscription. You can have it. A 1099 a month. For Spotify. Like it's yours. My gift. Well, I'll let you know if we have to revert to that. But I'm absolutely not paying anyone $2,800. dollars to pay 35 minutes supply and demand well you're in Rhode Island yeah I'm in Rhode Island so it's like the population of like a thousand people right so like the chance they're like the only people in the entire state yeah what was the number one stressful thing for you guys and playing the wedding I know that like ABC really took care of you guys as they
Starting point is 00:08:37 do with all their weddings but what was like something that you had a difficult time deciding on I would say um what was just really really stressful for me was hair and makeup I didn't have a hair makeup trial until less than 20 per hours before the wedding. Oh, I remember. And I was like, your rehearsal dinner was your trial. It was, I was having so much anxiety. And I think really what it was just, you're just nervous. And we hadn't written our vows until like the morning of. Yeah, wait, hold on. Just that just was a bad call. What in the world were you thinking? You know, I just needed to be inspired. Okay. And I thought Chris and I were going to allocate some time to, I thought we'd have the time to, like, go to the beach and have this romantic
Starting point is 00:09:19 like moment where we write it, you know, under the stars and a shooting star goes by. Didn't happen? Like, it's just like, time goes by so fast and suddenly you're there. And suddenly it's the day before we're leaving and just so much accommodating with, like, friends and family. And for us, it was just, it was a lot of people constantly coming in that was really fun and exciting, but kept us from things like writing our vows. until the day before but i will say that once i had them done um i said everything i wanted and i
Starting point is 00:09:52 had to do it in that moment that's great no i i understand you wanting to find a moment that inspires and like is a muse for you because like you do want like a romantic quiet time and in the midst of this last minute wedding planning you don't really find that you find yourselves like more like what do we could do about that what do you're like less of it like less of it's romantic well and honestly like Chris and I, we had been talking with ABC for months, but we didn't get the final confirmation until like a month before. I remember when we asked you, we were like, is it happening? And you're like, it's still kind of up in the air. I'm like, oh, they're lying. They can't say it. Living the weekend open. I'm like, am I getting married or not? Do I start like this workout
Starting point is 00:10:34 program or not? Where's my car? My back room ratio right now. But you know what? It all worked out. I do have to say like you're there in that moment and looking around and it was wild because it was like our family plus like a bunch of cast and you're there and just so many people are there to celebrate you and you and Jared were there and it was just so nice to have you know like our friends just be there in that moment and it was so exciting because you guys are getting married and raven and adam were there they just got to cage it was the first time I ever met raven and adam first off can't believe we haven't have them on the show Amy we got to get done that they are awesome really really like really like like it just felt warm in their presence right off the bat really enjoyed them i actually saw adam at the gym the day of the wedding you met him for the first time i did yeah at the gym i was there with all my friends and we were all doing this like circuit style workout like 12 of us and alice i think was there was she there that day or the day before but we took over the gym at the dada her day the day of her wedding um so i course yeah i kind of get that tricep pump you think that's real like it really like if you do it the day of
Starting point is 00:11:42 Like, you get the definition? You do. But most importantly, you just get in, like, a mental space where you're like, okay, I got this. Okay. Well, apparently Ben has arrived. Before we get Ben on the line, it lets us stop to give a little thanks to the reason that we're here in Tahoe, Protein 1. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Oh, wait a minute, Sam.
Starting point is 00:12:04 Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend, really cheated with his professor or not. To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeartRadio
Starting point is 00:12:47 app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. Starting point is 00:13:26 to legends chasing history. The predictions will we see a first time winner and the pressure. Billy Jean King says pressure is a privilege, you know. Plus, the stories and events off the court and, of course, the Honey Deuces, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S.S. Open has gotten to be a very fancy, wonderfully experiential sporting event.
Starting point is 00:13:47 I mean, listen, the whole aim is to be accessible and inclusive for all tennis fans, whether you play tennis or not. Tennis is full of compelling stories of late. Have you heard about Icon Venus Williams' recent wild card bids or the young Canadian, Victoria Mboko, making a name for herself? How about Naomi Osaka getting back to form? To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, and I heart, Women's Sports Production in partnership with deep blue sports and entertainment on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Culture eats strategy for breakfast.
Starting point is 00:14:23 I would love for you to share your breakdown on pivoting. We feel sometimes like we're leaving a part of us behind when we enter a new space, but we're just building. On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us, I was joined by Valicia Butterfield, media founder, political strategy. and tech powerhouse for a powerful conversation on storytelling, impact, and the intersections of culture and leadership. I am a free black woman who worked really hard to be able to say that. I'd love for you to break down why was so important for you to do C. You can't win as something you didn't create.
Starting point is 00:14:59 From the Obama White House to Google to the Grammys, Malicia's journey is a masterclass in shifting culture and using your voice to spark change. A very fake, capital-driven environment and society will have a lot of. a lot of people tell half-truths. I'm telling you, I'm on the energy committee. Like, if the energy is not right, we're not doing it, whatever that it is. Listen to Culture raises us on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:15:29 Through unforgettable love stories and into conversations with characters you'll never forget. I think any good romance, it gives me this feeling of, like, butterflies. Hey, hey, well, you sound crystal clear, but you are not here in Tahoe with us. Why aren't you here, by the way? Can you tell us? I'm having the wildest, like, four days ever.
Starting point is 00:16:31 So I'm in Chicago right now for a board meeting for Humane, Hope United, and then for generous and then i leave uh tomorrow for switzerland to play in the writer cup celebrity golf outing that they do every other year so i'm flying to switzerland oh i didn't know you were going to switzerland for a golf tournament i thought you you and jess were just going on a romantic getaway no it's a golf tournament so i'm representing the u.s of a uh in switzerland for five days it's like the Ryder Cup. So if you're a golf fan, there's best ball matches, there is alternate shot matches, and then I'll be coming back to the United States in a week. I'm Jack. Jess is going with me. It's going to be a really good time. You're really following in Chris Harrison's
Starting point is 00:17:19 footsteps when it comes to being like an almost pro golfer. I, yeah, you know what? That's a great title on my gravestone is almost pro. that's what I'd like that's awesome well I know that you'll be packing your protein one bars in your pocket because those 18 holes are probably going to last a long time oh you you better believe it when I get hungry on the course there's only one way to fill me up protein one protein one all right well Ben thank you for checking in with us especially when you are so so busy I'll try to hold the fort down here as best as I can Ashley, you're the best.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Oh, you're going to have to do this for me when I'm on my honeymoon. You're going to have a couple weeks where I am not going to look at my freaking phone. You shouldn't, Ashley, get away. We'll talk all about you. All right. Bye, man. All right, guys, we are back with Crystal. And we are talking about the people that were at your wedding.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Thank you for inviting us. Thanks for having us there. I think when people think Bachelor wedding, one of the first questions that comes up is, how many people do you have to have there that you've never met? like you just said, you met Adam for the first time. And then how many people have you only met once or twice? And then you kind of just have to have them for ceremonial reasons. And then there's an allocated space of people you've never met that are at your wedding.
Starting point is 00:18:44 It's so crazy. But, you know, Chris, we knew that going into it. And I think ultimately what it was was, maybe it was a little sooner than when we thought about getting married, but the fact that we were going to be able to have our family and friends and do it where we had our family. first date and you know bachelor has been really good to us it's how we met and has supported the development of our relationship so it was it was a leap of faith and we're honestly like very life has been incredible that's awesome do you have any regrets about doing it in paradise i know we're all
Starting point is 00:19:18 going to see it in paradise when it starts airing in august i'm sure you know the actual date and can't release it yet so i won't even ask but is there you know i actually don't know the date yeah oh you don't so again again i'm just like surrender to the entire process. I'm just rolling with it. So was that a little bit of a regret that you had to be so hands off and just like let them do their thing? So you know what's so funny is like I said years and years ago, I go, if I were to ever get married, it would be in Mexico and I wouldn't want to plan anything except for the dress and the cake. And it's so funny what you, what you ask, you shall receive. And I was really cool with it up until the last couple weeks or the last few weeks because our
Starting point is 00:19:57 family and friends didn't even have their hotel until like their flight or hotel until like 10 days before so everyone was and we were just the middlemen so that was the only stressful part I would say it was challenging to not be able to give that like definitive answers but ultimately I think what I really learned about myself as well as Chris throughout this process was just that life is unfolding around you and sometimes when we have preferences about how things should be we really just create resistance and things don't move smoothly. But when you let go and you just surrender, it just unfolds as it's supposed to. And I will say that I am a little inspired because I just read The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer. And it is the best book I have ever read next to
Starting point is 00:20:43 becoming Michelle Obama. So good. Okay. Well, that sounds like a really interesting theory. I think like a lot of things in my life have happened best when you do just like let go. And you're like, okay if it's meant to be it will be right and then it comes i think you just let go and just have faith and and you just focus on the feelings that you want to feel you don't focus on what if this bad thing happens or what if i feel really stressed out you're just like i'm just going to really it's going to work out exactly as it's meant to be and nothing i can do for i have a couple thoughts from all this that we've talked about your makeup and hair looked fantastic so even though you had to wait and stress about that i did look the first time i saw you walking down the eye i was
Starting point is 00:21:22 like, well, her hair and makeup went, like, really, really well. Like, shout out to Anasasia, Beverly Hills, because they, like, blew in some girls to do my makeup. And I will say, when those girls came in, one of them looked just like Jesse James Decker, and the other looked just like Cocoa Kardashian, Chloe Kardashian. Oh, my God, that's amazing. And they were literally my squad that just, like, brought me, it made me, like, enjoy it. And they made me feel really, really beautiful. So it's important for, like, the bride to, you know, feel good with the hair and the
Starting point is 00:21:52 makeup and the dress just the only day it really really really matters yeah like in even in um comparison to just like tase that we're filming bachelor shows at the end of the day if you look crapped on one episode it's on the end of the world no you're just like whatever so i haven't even seen photos from the wedding you saw the people well i saw i saw the people and it was like two photos and then they did like one of our wedding cake topper i was going to say okay at the end of the day you got to pick your dress that was super important to you and then you got to pick your cake because i i think because of what you had on the top of the cake could only you guys have created okay so chris and i went in to this place called dub d o b in san diego and we went in
Starting point is 00:22:38 with wayne and chucky our dogs and went into this room with like 97 cameras and all of them simultaneously took a photo of us creating a 3d like a very detailed a 3d depiction of us It was like, honey, I shrunk the kids and the guy and the dogs. And that was our one-and-cake chopper. It was so cool. I stared at it for like a solid 10 minutes. I was like, this is the coolest one-and-kick I've ever seen. So Wayne and Chucky looked fantastic.
Starting point is 00:23:04 But Chris and I looked like that photo that's going around where it, like, ages to you. We look, he had gray hair. You didn't look exactly accurate, but I thought that he looked like himself. And I thought he looked handsome on the top of the cake. I know he was very offended by the portrayal. He's like, I look like a whitewalker. it's like ongoing joke but it was fun it was us and it was just us being goofy and i think we really wanted that to come through with the wedding great that's awesome um the couple days after
Starting point is 00:23:33 the wedding i actually know on instagram we saw it was a couple days after the wedding that you got your actual certificate in america that you're officially a married couple jared and i are super what are you nervous no jared and i don't know how to go about this. Can you please explain? Oh, so simple. So simple. You guys, you guys should give me a look like it was like, don't bring this up. We're not actually married. That's why I stuttered there. No, no, no. You are actually paperwork. Yeah. No, I was like, what? No, that was actually an old photo when we applied for the license. So that was an old photo that like Chris, you know, brought in. But the process was really simple. In San Diego, we just made an appointment for the next day when in applied. And
Starting point is 00:24:18 and that was it. And then who do you get it signed by? Like, did Chris Harrison sign it? Chris Harrison signed it, yes. He did. He signed it in Mexico and then you brought it back to the states and submitted it. Okay. So all you need is to go in, get the application.
Starting point is 00:24:30 You bring it, you sign it, have two witnesses like they're just close friends. Sign it in some cases. And then you have your actual officiant, Chris Harrison or whoever we have officiating our wedding, go and submit it. Do they have to submit it or can we submit it? Yeah, you submit it. Oh, okay. And there's a thing like,
Starting point is 00:24:48 with out of the country weddings where you need to like get married first yeah i like want to do that jojonas and sophy turner like yeah you just go and get legally married first and then like you have like the ceremony in the celebration okay yeah cool so it's fun it's super easy and it was it was wild honestly because it's really you do it before the ceremony so it's like whoa we're like we're really doing that oh my god it's so funny like when you walk up the aisle you are married and i want that too I don't want to, like, have this ceremony and then have to deal with the paperwork. I, like, I want to, at the end of the day, be like, no, we are married in all capacities of the word. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:23 You know what? I'm going to tell you, like, at that, when you go to bed that night, you were going to sleep like a rock. You're like, we did it. It's over. We made it. And we're still together. In the people magazine spread, you said something like, you stayed up super late that night. I was like, I'm pretty sure we left at 12 and you went to bed.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Did you stay up? So we get back to our room and there were people, there was staff in our room. No. Coordinating luggage for like our guests, like our bridal party. And I was like, um, we're husband and wife like and you're in the bridal suite. Can you like get out? It's our wedding night. And they stayed there for like 45 minutes. And at that point I was like getting.
Starting point is 00:26:01 I was pretty nice until I was a little like, got to go. Yeah. Got to go wedding night over here. Before we wrap up with Crystal, I think a lot of people are going to be like, wait a second. How did your family and friends not have hotel rooms and flights 10 days to the wedding? That's how they do things on The Bachelor, little insider knowledge. Even people who go to Paradise, like, they don't get their flight into like five to seven days before they leave. So our, yeah, you just, honestly, you just have to know if anyone listening ever wants to go on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, just know that you have to fully let go.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Yeah. And just roll with it. and that was really interesting to see because we're used to it being in that environment but for our family and friends for them to be like what do you mean we don't have hotel what do you mean you can't tell me where we where we're staying or what my flight is because they couldn't like let that information out too early because they didn't want press to come and find it um that was really an interesting lesson for them to learn to like so funny I know and you're like trying to reassure them I think like even with my rides it's going to be worked out it's like there's certain things that
Starting point is 00:27:10 we're probably doing because it's more like a more of a press-oriented type of wedding than they would obviously ever be used to. And they're like, I think it's really crazy that like we're getting our dresses like two or three weeks before the ceremony. And I'm like, I know that's just how it's going to go. That long? They had that long. Yeah, I know. See? My people got it like the day before they left. Because I had brides met. I had like three guys and three girls. So I've got like the day before they flew out. They got. the talks yeah it's like crazy it's such a fun wild ride and you know like looking back it's uh it's an adventure and i think that's what we signed up for it is all right chrys well thank you for
Starting point is 00:27:53 joining us and telling us like really so many little like exclusive tidbits about the wedding really really appreciate it thanks for being here in tahoe with us and thanks for supporting our love for protein one as a health nut i feel like you're going to take a couple of these boxes before really peanut butter one right now. Yeah, they basically taste like chocolate bars, but they give you protein and they're good for you and energy. Done. All right, now up next we have Caitlin and Elise. Are they going to go on together? Yeah, we're going to have Caitlin and Elise come on together. But before we get them on, let's take a quick break. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious. Oh, wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her
Starting point is 00:28:37 boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school. week on the okay story time podcast so we'll find out soon this person writes my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot he doesn't think it's a problem but i don't trust her now he's insisting we get to know each other but i just want her gone now hold up isn't that against school policy that sounds totally inappropriate well according to this person this is her boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age and it's even more likely that they're cheating he insists there's nothing between them i mean do you believe him well he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet.
Starting point is 00:29:11 So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. Plus, the stories and events off the court and, of course, the honey deuses, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very fancy, wonderfully experiential sporting event. I mean, listen, the whole aim is to be accessible and inclusive for all tennis fans, whether you play tennis or not. Tennis is full of compelling stories of late. Have you heard about Icon Venus Williams' recent wildcard bids or the young Canadian Victoria Mboko making a name for herself.

We feel sometimes like we're leaving a part of us.
Starting point is 00:31:03 behind when we enter a new space, but we're just building. On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us, I was joined by Volisha Butterfield, media founder, political strategist, and tech powerhouse for a powerful conversation on storytelling, impact, and the intersections of culture and leadership. I am a free black woman who worked really hard to be able to say that. I'd love for you to break down why was so important for you to do C. You can't win as something you didn't create. From the Obama White house to Google to the Grammysia's journey is a masterclass in shifting culture and using your voice to spark change a very fake capital-driven environment and society will have a lot of people tell half-truths i'm telling you i'm on the energy committee like if the energy is not right we're not doing
Starting point is 00:31:50 it whatever that it is listen to culture raises us on the iHeart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts just like great shoes great books take you places through unforgettable love stories and into conversations with characters you'll never forget. I think any good romance, it gives me this feeling of like butterflies. Visit apple.c.O. forward slash Reese Apple Books to find out more. All right. And we're back with Annalise and Kaylin, two members of the original cast of Paradise Season. Are we? Six. Six. Okay. If I was going to say seven, I was going to have like a mind freak. You know, wait, Annalise is confused too. I think it's six.
Starting point is 00:33:06 Yeah, four was the one with the whole controversy. That was the Korean season. And then there was last season, which was like the Colton Tia triangle. And now there's your season. Okay, so before we go on, I know a lot of people are going to be like, Ashley, you and Ben were so critical of Kaylin before, like, last season. And I don't want to like address anything on the podcast. I just want to tell you guys like, Kaylin and I have had a talk and we're friendly now.
Starting point is 00:33:31 And I was basically the gist of it was like, you know, a lot of it is us having to watch as fans and say what we'd have to say from a fan's point of view. I have no, I don't know her in real life. I met her for the second time ever a couple weeks ago. And we just had a little, you know, a little off the mic chat. And I'm going to get to know Kailen more this weekend or so I'm really excited about. Caitlin's awesome. And everybody has been saying like the greatest things about her, especially the past month or so.
Starting point is 00:34:00 No, I was thinking about that. And it makes sense. Like you're looking at it from a fan's perspective and you, you don't know us. So it's like, I wasn't perceived the best way on my season and I wasn't my best self. So like it makes perfect sense. Oh, well, thank you. Yeah. I know it's really hard.
Starting point is 00:34:14 There's a lot of people. It's like just from like writing my recaps and being on this podcast, it's like if we don't, if we're totally uncritical, then we're going to get like, then we're going to be the most boring people ever to talk about. And then people are going to be like, this is not relatable because we're watching the show and we're criticizing at home. But it's kind of cool too. because you're getting, you, you're like a voice to people who are also seeing maybe Kaelin and going
Starting point is 00:34:37 like, oh, we don't like her. And then you are going to get to know her and, you know, have your opinions change too. So it's kind of, it's interesting. Like, that's why I was with Crystal, you know. Oh, yeah. Oh, I think everybody was, you know, Crystal. And then on Thursdays we became great friends. So it's like, it's, it's just also, it's like showing that you should get to know people and not, and, you know, we're all going to judge each other on the show watching it. But then once you get to know people, you like, get to know the full, full side of them. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 00:35:02 There's a lot more to us. I can't go into full detail, but my opinion has already changed so much from the one that the show developed for me. But I mean, I'll talk about that some other time. Once Bachelor in Paradise starts airing. Ooh. Okay. But let's talk about, well, let's talk a little bit about paradise, but not get into explicit
Starting point is 00:35:23 details. Explicit, is that, it's explicit because is that a word, like a sex word or is that? it can be it can be keeping count of your sex i heard you say that earlier no idea how much sex has come on this podcast i'm so tired of the word it's always felt uncomfortable with me to say you know yeah but anyway so let's not talk about it um let's go one by one as to why kaelin start with you why did you choose to do paradise especially after having a rougher edit on the show right right i think that had a lot to do with it like i'm so one of the reasons. I'm the only single person in my friend group. So I was like, if I go in Paradise,
Starting point is 00:36:02 there's hopefully I'll walk away with someone. But then I was also like, I wasn't myself on my season. I was, I don't know. I just, I had a good time, but the way, I won't even blame it on editing. The way I was, like, wasn't myself. So I was like, if I go to Paradise and I'm just completely myself, people can hate me, but hate me for actually knowing me. And I would feel a lot better about that. Okay. Well, that's great. I think that so, I think Paradise is usually the perfect way for people to like for the audience to get to know the real person because it's less of a chopped down version on The Bachelor they have to show the personalities of 25 girls on Paradise you're showing a lot you're showing quite a bit of storylines but you're focusing a lot
Starting point is 00:36:47 more on people's true personalities I was completely I people people were critical of me on every season of mine but I think they started to like understand me and relate to me and like have more of like a sympathetic bone for me starting in paradise and i think that's definitely going to happen with you that's alice and alice what do why do you come back after literally having the worst experience last year yeah uh i mean it wasn't it wasn't like a real quick decision you know i had to think about it um a bit and i sort of it came down to i was single and i it sort of worked for me last year and so i was like, well, if it could, you know, I see Chris and Crystal, I see all these other relationships
Starting point is 00:37:34 that are successful. I'm like, I kind of, I got close, you know, like it just wasn't the right person. So why couldn't it work this time? So that's sort of where in my head was that. Have you heard from what's his name? And I'm going to call him what's his name because I truly forget his name. We, I have not in a long time. No. What's his name? Camille. The last time we had any sort of exchange, I think, was back. in like December or something or January. Yeah. It's been a while.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Without giving anything away, are you happy you did it again? Yeah, I think so. Okay. I'm really happy. Okay, great. In life. Amazing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:16 So good. Let's talk about like where your lives are outside of the Bachelor franchise. Caitlin, you are living in the same complex as Cassie in L.A. how's that been like your your roommates but not roommates which is literally the perfect thing you could do like my sister just moved out of our house and that was a big step for us she was living we're like living three's company style for an entire year and you know like Jared loves to say that he was like absolutely fine with it but he was definitely ready for her to leave it to like feel more like a couple's living situation but she moved a mile down the street which is perfect for me and that's like kind of how it is
Starting point is 00:38:54 with Cassie, right? Yeah. So like I don't have to deal with the awkwardness of like maybe like Colton being there all the time. But like I get to choose when I go downstairs or she comes upstairs. Like it's good. It's fun. I enjoy it. Colton kind of steals her away a lot. So I don't really get to see her that often. Okay. But it's fun. That's awesome. Yeah. Okay. So how has it been being that third wheel over the past couple months before Paradise? Before Paradise? Yeah. So I was pretty like chill about it and Colton it took him a longer time to warm up to the idea I was going to say he must have felt like okay I like kiss this girl a lot yeah and now I'm kissing my my girl my very serious girlfriend in front of right he had that conversation he's like well I've made out with her and I'm like
Starting point is 00:39:39 yeah but like we're just friends like as soon as I went off the show and I found out was Cassie I like flipped a switch and I'm not attracted to you and like you're just a friend to me so it took him some time like and also he wants to be respectful of Cassie in their relationship so I get it but now it's like smooth sailing for friends it's great okay so there was a little awkward bump in there yeah i always said i was like there's no awkwardness but i'm like no no no there was some awkwardness for a couple months there's definitely awkwardness when you interact with your bachelor for the first couple times after being off the show i think it's something you never think you're gonna have to see him again you're like oh they're in a different category like they're not going to mingle with
Starting point is 00:40:15 us like cast members anymore and then the first couple times you're like hi it's like really good to see you like I don't even know if I really know you because the only time I've ever talked to you was on camera for like seven minutes yeah for like seven minutes every couple days yeah yeah it's really funny but yeah I mean if you're best friends with his girlfriend then obviously you're gonna have to make that hurdle yeah you have to make it work how is it seeing Ari the first couple times off camera uh I haven't really seen him very much yeah so I don't I don't know I think it would be totally fine like because Ari and we never even kissed I feel like like you said, I don't know him.
Starting point is 00:40:53 So it would be, I think it'd be fine. No, that you guys never even kissed. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that's, he was just, like, some guy that he was, like, always hanging around with, like, on our girls' trip. That's so funny. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:05 Who are you most looking forward to seeing in Paradise? Who are you hoping to be in Paradise? Who was on that list for you guys? Name, like, three. So I actually didn't have a list going in this time. Come on, Annalise. That's so lame. No, no, but, well, I'll tell you why, because last year I went in,
Starting point is 00:41:21 I wanted Camille to be there. And I was, like, excited about seeing him. And so this year I was like, I'm not even going to, I want to meet people just fresh, like not have any judgments about people, not have, not be holding out for somebody to walk down the stairs. Like, I'm going to go in who's there. I'm going to give chances to. It's very mature of you. I just, I went into it so differently this year.
Starting point is 00:41:45 My headspace was completely different. So I just didn't really have. There was people that I was like, oh, yeah, they could be interested. but there was nobody that I went in with a list intent with okay Caitlin yeah it was the opposite um good that's the way I've always been I'm like that one or that one or no one yeah no seriously that's how I was I was like Connor S or no one and um but also I was like I was so intent on dating Connor but I was like I'm such a personality person I don't know this guy's personality he didn't get a ton of airtime on Hannah's season so I'm like we could mesh really well or we couldn't so I didn't
Starting point is 00:42:20 put all my weight in there and maybe I did maybe I didn't but I don't think that was the best approach okay so normally I know we've mentioned this on the podcast before but I want to remind you listeners out there that with paradise normally the cast only gets to see a couple episodes of like the current bachelorette season before going in for mine I was able to see two episodes I think for you guys you may have been able to see three three episodes so you got to see connor's one-on-one right he must have left an impression with you there yeah I thought he was really cute and sweet and thoughtful and I was like I really think I could get along with this guy and then Colton put in my ear too he was like I think you and Connor would mesh really well
Starting point is 00:42:58 together and multiple people kept saying it so I was like all right it's Connor or no one it's kind of how I went into it okay in the original cast who surprised who was a surprise for you guys to see there who did you not expect to see there and who was there Chris Pekowski freaking fantastic answer I think he uh that was surprising to everyone considering he retired from the bachelor franchise about three or four years ago yeah yeah i was surprised to see wills there wills yeah i was too yeah because i was on paradise with him last summer and uh i was surprised he was back and then i'm also really good friends with him so i was like what you're here hey yeah that was so it was interesting because i think he
Starting point is 00:43:43 kind of went a little m i from the bachelor franchise over the past year that's the thing i thought he was kind of done with it like I didn't think even if they asked him I thought he wasn't really going back but there he was right there was one time we tried to get him on the podcast I think it was suit I think it's like the fall time and he went totally MIA he was actually not just from our texts but he wasn't posting anything on social media and people were genuinely getting concerned like there was like message boards like where do wills go is he okay yeah there was I mean there's a couple of surprises. There's like obviously the people that came from the most current season, you expect to see some of those like fan favorite people. But then there is definitely people
Starting point is 00:44:22 there. The older people from previous seasons were almost all a surprise. Like Derek was a surprise. Yeah. I can't even remember. Derek who said on this very podcast about five or six weeks before leaving for Paradise that he was not at all going to do it. One hundred percent certain. And we have it on tape so that's great i'm glad that we like have the scoop on that i think what's weird for our season though is that we only had like what four or five from hannah's season for original cast like it was mostly older cast members that is true i feel like there was a lot of people missing from hannah's season yeah it was a random group of hannah's guys when i went back and i was watching hannah season i was like did he end up going did he end up going and i actually
Starting point is 00:45:06 is like pretty spoiler-free and there's some guys I'm still not sure if they ever showed up or not maybe they made like little blips little appearances
Starting point is 00:45:15 of the original cast because we can't reveal any other names who did you form like the closest friendships with Kaelin? Like girls or guys? Girls and guys?
Starting point is 00:45:27 I think girls as a whole we were all really close like it was just such a great group of girls in terms of original cast like we just had so much fun together And guys, it was kind of the same. I think I, yeah, I was close with pretty much all of the guys, too. It was, it was just such a unique group.
Starting point is 00:45:44 Like, I was so pleased with it. So I remember talking to some of the girls from the Paradise Cast and they were like, Caitlin has been like just totally involved with everybody and friends with everybody, which was such a different contrast to when you're on Colton season. Just like you and Cassie like kind of buddyed up. Yeah. Did you like the experience of kind of like? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:04 I think Cassie and I, we didn't mean to be clicky, but we were just so close that we kind of close ourselves off from everyone else. And this time, I was just friends with everyone. It was like, it was so much fun. I did the exact same thing my first season of Paradise for the first four days. My sister was there. And people were like, actually seems like really nice and cool, but we don't really know her because she and her sister are totally inseparable. And she's like always having to like console her. And they're always like having like sister language talk. That's exactly how we heard. Yes. Yeah. I understand. Yeah. Not the best. no but it's okay I mean and then sometimes you have to force yourself out of the situation like when my sister left then I was like oh okay yeah I'm like I can be sociable now right it's a comfort zone thing yeah um Annalise who is there anybody from this season that you really clicked with uh I would say probably Caitlin and Katie were um two of the girls that I didn't know well I didn't know you at all before um uh yeah I just everyone was so nice that
Starting point is 00:47:03 Like the original cast, those first couple of days, felt very, very smooth. Yes. Nice. Until they did it. Imploded. Yep. Yeah. I'm like, guys, just prepare yourself.
Starting point is 00:47:16 I've done this before. You were. You kept saying that. Oh my gosh. I told Tasha, which, where is she? She's here too. Yeah. She, I was like, I don't think you know what you're getting into.
Starting point is 00:47:26 I was like, the bachelor is like sorority fun time. And Bachelor in Paradise is like the most, it's an emotional. emotional war zone. But you're also in it just all the time. Like you never get a break ever in paradise. No. Because you're always together, you know, you get to like not be on dates. You get to lie outside and tan and cook meals and like all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:47:48 Like go take naps. And in paradise, yeah, the camera is like on you. Constrate on your story. If you're taking a nap, there's a camera probably that's going to get that. It's crazy. John Paul Jones is part of the original cast. and I know that he's a favorite amongst like everyone. Can we explain his personality beyond what we may have seen the little bits that we saw
Starting point is 00:48:11 in hand this season? He is one of my favorite people in this world. So Dylan was probably my closest guy friend. But John Paul Jones is just like he, his edit did not do him justice. He is so funny, but he's so smart. Everybody keeps talking about his intelligence. He is so smart. I was like blown away.
Starting point is 00:48:28 I was like, who are you? I did not know. But he's just, he's also very rebellious. Yeah. And he kind of inspired me to. be rebellious um he's just i don't know i love him and it's like fully him all the time like none of it's an act i think that's where i sometimes in the bachelor world like you meet people and you're like oh they just know how to turn it on you know and um it's not it's just him the whole time that's
Starting point is 00:48:50 his personality he just reminds me of like a 90s like the double popped collar he's like he feels like such like a surfer bro yeah he's like a surfer bro but then has that preppy side where it's like i'm so confused the fact that he's like he's like he's like he's like he's so confused the fact that he sounds like he just got off the surf, but he grew up in Minnesota. That's Connor, too, though. He works in Maryland. He's the same way. He's got that surfer bro. Yeah, where's he
Starting point is 00:49:12 from? I think it's like the same sort of Connor. Oh, Conner's from Texas. Michigan. Michigan. Okay. Yeah, it doesn't make sense. Yeah, no, it doesn't. No. All right, is there any teasers you can give us for the Paradise Season
Starting point is 00:49:26 why people should watch? Not that they ever need a reason, because I think it's pretty much everybody, every Bachelor Nation, hardcore fan their favorite part of the year is paradise now everybody watches the other shows so they can get to paradise right but what is like one little teaser that each of you can give us before we let you go so i i know this is like a chris harrison saying but it definitely will be i think it's going to be the most crazy and epic season just so much happens like i thought a lot happened last year so much more happens this year that's nuts because last season was fantastic it's
Starting point is 00:50:02 It's going to be nutty. Like, I don't even know how they're going to put it into however many episodes they have. Like, they need to order more episodes because there's so much stuff that happens. I don't think anybody except for dancing with the stars would refuse that. That's awesome. Jalen? Yeah, it's drama filled. There's lots of tears.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Lots. Very minimal laughter. No smile. No smiles. Except for the first three days. Yeah. Everybody thinks everything is fine and dandy. It's all down the last day.
Starting point is 00:50:35 It's really when like it's the day after like that those first couple people that like crawl down the stairs. Yeah. And then like somebody takes a date from somebody. That's when it always starts. Because the first two days, it's like the original cast. We're just like, oh, yeah. Everyone's friends and everyone's like sort of flirting, but like feeling it out still. And then all of a sudden it's like war zone.
Starting point is 00:50:54 Oh, yeah. Yeah. I haven't heard anything about Demi yet from you guys. I feel like everybody's expecting. to bring the drama is there anything i think you can tease there demi brings demi um good comic relief when it's needed okay she is so witty and so smart she's super smart oh my gosh you know she's so quick i'm like can i have your brain for like even 10 minutes i would love to know what it would be like to think like that watching her at women tell all i was like this is so unfortunate that i can't think
Starting point is 00:51:27 like that and i could never respond in an argument like no i know she's like a person i wouldn't never want to get an argument with because I'd be like she would just have too many things to say so I read this study that made me feel like a lot better about that they say that your intelligence isn't based on whether or not you can come up with things quickly but if you can come up with them like in general so like if you're somebody who can like quickly banter back in an argument that doesn't necessarily mean that you're smarter than somebody who can like write a thesis about it like after thinking and formulating those feelings so I was like okay great because I can write thesis but I can do what Demi does I will
Starting point is 00:52:01 say too, though, about Demi. If I can tease this, you know, we've only seen one side of Demi, and it's like her quick wit side and her funny side and her feisty side. And I think we're going to see a whole other side of Demi. And I grew to love and appreciate Demi so much more on this season, too. Great. That's great. And I would be shamed as a host if I didn't bring up the reports of who you may be dating, Kalen, because some entertainment outlets did report that so i'll let you be as vague as possible if you'd like or as detailed as possible but i'd need you to answer that question um paradise was great it was it was horrible and great at the same time and whether or not i'm in a relationship or not you will just have to wait and stay tuned and
Starting point is 00:52:50 watch an august fifth can't come soon enough all right thank you girls thank you so thank you to all of our guests today. And thank you guys for listening to an extra episode this week. I say it like it's a chore. I know you like it. Follow the Ben and Ashley I, almost famous podcast on IHartRadio, or subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly,
Starting point is 00:54:34 and now I'm seriously suspicious.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That seems inappropriate. Maybe. Find out how it ends by listening to the OK Storytime Podcasts and the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor.
