I'm Simone Boyce, host of the Brightside podcast, and on this week's episode, I'm talking
Starting point is 00:01:10 to Olympian, World Cup Champion, and podcast host, Ashlyn Harris. My worth is not wrapped up in how many things I've won, because what I came to realize is I valued winning so much that once it was over, I got the blues, and I was like, this is it. For me, it's the pursuit of greatness. It's the journey. It's the people. It's the failures.
Starting point is 00:01:35 It's the heartache. Listen to the bright side on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The U.S. Open is here. And on my podcast, Good Game with Sarah Spain. I'm breaking down the players, the predictions, the pressure. And, of course, the honey deuses, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open. The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very wonderfully experiential sporting event.
Starting point is 00:02:03 To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, an IHeart women's sports production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Brought to you by Novartis, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports Network. This is the Ben and Ashley I, almost famous podcast with IHeart Radio. We're back with another episode with Trista. and Molly and Des, and we're just talking Bachelor weddings and the drama that ensues in them. And I want to know because we were all married from the show, Molly and Trista had big televised
Starting point is 00:02:37 weddings. I wasn't offered a wedding, nor do I think I would have, not after the engagement would I have taken the wedding. Because we had a televised engagement. And the whole episode became about how my ex was annoyed that, like, that Jared did it in front of them. So I was like, so I was like, wow, guys, uh, missed the point. Wow, like really, really didn't like that. Of course, in the day of, like when I think about the day of the engagement, amazing. It was watching it back and like the episode that goes along with it. Right. Right. So I don't think I would have ever wanted a wedding and I also wanted to have everybody that I wanted there. I wanted to do it my way. Blah, blah, blah. But Des, yeah. You were back in the day that like they were
Starting point is 00:03:23 doing the weddings. Did you feel? I think the last one. that was Molly and Jason. What about Ashley and JP? Ashley and JP and Sean and Catherine. Well, we were right around Sean and Catherine. So they cut it off around your time. Right. I don't think they were used to like couples staying together.
Starting point is 00:03:42 So you know, they didn't expect to have this many weddings in a row. You know, they probably didn't expect like because then after me, Andy was staying with Josh for that time being when we were, you know, planning our own wedding and so you know honestly i don't know i can't assume um i mean we were talking for quite a while about that possibility with them but it just kept dragging on and dragging on and so we just chose to do it ourselves and you had the most beautiful wedding ever it was amazing and it was like you said everything we wanted you know and we got to invite who we wanted and make it a little more intimate yeah which is great yeah yeah okay well that's great i'm glad we all the weddings that we wanted to.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Would you two go, oh, wait, Trista's quince her eyes. Molly and Trista, would you want to go back and do it the way you did it? Well,
Starting point is 00:04:36 I mean, like my style has changed. I literally was just going to say that I would change my hair. Yeah, for sure. And, um,
Starting point is 00:04:46 not have Ryan get his haircut the day of the wedding. Oh, that's always a bad move. That is always risky. Why does we think that? Um, little things like, oh,
Starting point is 00:04:55 those are, Well, actually, number one, number one change is, obviously, we had it outside with the helicopter situation. It was a problem. Exactly what I said. And the first row of the wedding was, of course, his family and my family, right? And all the other rows had a speaker. So you could hear what was happening when we were saying our vows. Everyone else in the front row didn't have a speaker.
Starting point is 00:05:22 The people that matter. The people that matter most. And they couldn't even hear it. And they couldn't hear anything because of the stupid helicopters. So, like, if we could have either put speakers in that front row or done it inside. Okay. You know, even though I loved the outdoors and Rancho Mirage was gorgeous and it was a perfect night, that's just a little sweet that I would have done.
Starting point is 00:05:44 So then that causes the question. Our helicopter is going to be here tonight. That's a, oh, good question. That is a good question because it's been leaked. Well, we were saying, Des and I went on a walk this morning. Can you imagine being a bachelor fan and you just, just happened to be on vacation thing at this hotel like what a wild time 100% I would go like if I was if I was here I would be those people like walking around and being like oh my gosh there's
Starting point is 00:06:09 there's so-and-so there's so you remember there's crashers at our wedding totally we had oh you did yes there were people at the hotel that just like I mean how would you know there were so many people so they just came right in yes so I feel like yes helicopters very well could be here because it it has been spoiled and people know about it. But who knows if they even are? I don't remember helicopters at Sean and Catherine's. I don't think they were. There weren't helicopters or like news?
Starting point is 00:06:38 Yeah, news, not like tablet helicopters. Tabloid. Tabloid. Okay, so, but it's live. So, like, why even, like, everybody can see it in the moment that's happening? The first pictures are, exactly. And stuff that's happening that's not on camera. So we actually had people.
Starting point is 00:06:57 So we took over Ranch and Mirage. Like our wedding guests were the, there was nobody else allowed to come in. This place is so huge. Huge. They're never going to close it for. And during Tanner's wedding, they didn't close it either.
Starting point is 00:07:12 No, no, no. And that's fine. That's great. But they had paparazzi come in and put a little cameras in bushes. Oh my. And then they went up to people and they said,
Starting point is 00:07:23 this is before we were there, they were like, we'll pay you $5,000 if you find this particular bush and go in the bush and get the camera. Wait. That's wild.
Starting point is 00:07:34 This was like the old days, you know, when so like the old tabloid days. Right. For sure. Because we didn't have ours televised, but there was still photos that got, because you still do it.
Starting point is 00:07:44 You still do. I know. Yeah, I remember. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that was funny. There was someone working for, a certain news station that was at the wedding and let's just say a little bit of drama
Starting point is 00:07:59 made it apparent that he was we were upset because we knew obviously it was like yeah anyways but um but no there were a guess that wouldn't be invited back no it's fine but um no but you still have exclusives like with a magazine or with a news outlet yeah and so there was pictures that were leaked and it's just so annoying because they obviously were like in a a tree or something. Yeah. And it's like me walking into the chapel, like with my dad. It's just like so weird.
Starting point is 00:08:31 What are you going to do with that? Yeah. Why can't you just wait? And then they were actually right when we were walking into our reception. And I, that's where I think the wedding planner set it up. Oh. Yeah. I do a little bit.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Or not the planner. Someone who was like assisting. Okay. Or from the location. Got it. Mm-hmm. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Well, wait a minute, Sam.
Starting point is 00:09:02 Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. It's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, I'm Jenna Lopez, and in the new season of the Overcover podcast, I'm taking you on
Starting point is 00:09:52 on an exciting journey of self-reflection. Am I ready to enter this new part of my life? Like, am I ready to be in a relationship? Am I ready to have kids and to really just devote myself and my time? I wanted to be successful on my own, not just because of who my mom is. Like, I felt like I needed to be better or work twice as hard as she did.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Join me for conversations about healing and growth. Life is freaking hard. And growth doesn't happen in comfort. It happens in motion, even when you're hurting. all from one of my favorite spaces, The Kitchen. Honestly, these are going to come out so freaking amazing. Starting point is 00:10:42 Hey, sis, what if I could promise you you never had to listen to a condescending finance, bro, tell you how to manage your money again. Welcome to Brown Ambition. This is the hard part when you paid. on those credit cards. If you haven't gotten to the bottom of why you were racking up credit or turning to credit cards, you may just recreate the same problem a year from now. When you do feel like you are bleeding from these high interest rates, I would start shopping for a debt consolidation loan, starting with your local credit union, shopping around online, looking for
Starting point is 00:11:12 some online lenders because they tend to have fewer fees and be more affordable. Listen, I am not here to judge. It is so expensive in these streets. I 100% can see how. How in just a few months, you can have this much credit card debt and it weighs on you. It's really easy to just like stick your head in the sand. It's nice and dark in the sand. Even if it's scary, it's not going to go away just because you're avoiding it. And in fact, it may get even worse. For more judgment-free money advice, listen to Brown Ambition on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.

Starting point is 00:12:22 stories of tangled up identities, concealed truths, and the way in which family secrets almost always need to be told. I hope you'll join me and my extraordinary guests for this new season of Family Secrets. Listen to Family Secrets Season 12 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is my last question that I want to, like, dive into with you guys. because of just this franchise well the golden bachelor making it so that like it's giving a lot of older people hope that like normalizing like finding love again at a certain age and I have talked on multiple podcasts now but like I don't know I don't know where I'll be mentally and emotionally
Starting point is 00:13:13 at 70 or hopefully I'm not widowed by 70 that would be awful but like I don't think I would have any interests in like pursuing a relationship if it fell on my lap then maybe but like I don't think I would seek it out through this show or any other mechanism what about you just got curiosity I honestly feel like it's something that you can't talk to until you're in the situation because they both like Teresa and Gary and then everyone else has their story too from the golden bachelorette that were on the show but they have their own individual stories and they both lost their spouse, you know, tragically through, you know, health issues. So I feel like you can't know until you get there. Like obviously, you're in a very happy relationship and so
Starting point is 00:14:02 you can't predict that you would even want to look for something else. But I feel like when you've been alone for that long and you do have, you know, the end of your life is closer than right now it is for you. I feel like when you get to that point, you probably are like, you know what? I would love to be able to share every day with someone. At least that's how I would be. Do life with someone. I feel like I would just live with my sister. I feel like we would just be like a comedy show.
Starting point is 00:14:27 We would basically be golden girls. I think that's probably why I think I'd be okay. I do think it's important to have some sort of companion. So like if you have your friends or if you have family members, like as long as you're in community with people and you're feeling loved and loving, you know, in return, I think that's what really. helps no matter where you're at in your life. But I don't think, you know, a 30, 40-something single is any different than a 70-year-old single.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Like, you still have those same desires of being loved and the desires of, you know, feeling that, that feeling of love. And so, yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I just probably, it's probably just like something you can't really speak of. Right. Until you get there. Right. Although, I'm not going to lie, I am very introverted and I really do love me a long time.
Starting point is 00:15:14 I was like, I know. It wouldn't seem to seek it out because I could never want to date again. I can't imagine. Like I was so young when I did the show. I can't even imagine date. Like there weren't dating apps before I went on the show. Like I wouldn't even know how to date. We have to go on the golden market.
Starting point is 00:15:34 It would be the most like natural transition. No, but you know, I'd think about Jason dying all the time. We talked about this at length last night. He just can't die. I don't know how to do life about him. Same. That's what you're talking about. It was so funny.
Starting point is 00:15:46 We're like, we wouldn't know, like, the passwords or the accounts. The account number, or anything. We can't live. All right. Well, thank you, ladies, so much. This was really fun. Thanks for having us. Of course.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Thank you. All right. See you next time, guys. Okay. Bye. Bye. Follow the Ben and Ashley I, almost famous podcast on IHartRadio or subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.
