Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Johnny Knoxville here. Check out Crimeless, Hillbilly Heist, my new true crime podcast from Smartless Media, campside media, and big money players. It's the true story of the almost perfect crime and the Nimrods who almost pulled it off. It was kind of like the perfect storm in a sewer.
Starting point is 00:00:21 That was dumb. Do not follow my example. Listen to Crimless, Hillbilly Heist, on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The murder of an 18-year-old girl in Graves County, Kentucky, went unsolved for years, until a local housewife, a journalist, and a handful of girls came forward with a story. America, y'all better wake the hell up. Bad things happens to good people and small Towns.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Listen to Graves County on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And to binge the entire season, ad-free, subscribe to Lava for Good Plus on Apple Podcasts. Samihante, it's Anna Ortiz. And I'm Mark and Delicado. You might know us as Hilda. And Justin.
Starting point is 00:01:24 From Ugly Betty. Welcome to our new podcast. We're re-watching the series from start to finish. And talking to iconic guests like Betty herself, America Ferreira. There was this moment when the glasses went on and it was like, this is our Betty. Listen to Viva Betty on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm I'm Ida Gorgia. And I'm Maite Gomesrichuan.
Starting point is 00:01:53 And this week on our podcast, Hungry for History, we talk oysters plus the me. M.B. Chief stops by. If you're not an oyster lover, don't even talk to me. Ancient Athenians used to scratch names onto oyster shells to vote politicians into exile. So our word ostracize is related to the word oyster. No way. Bring back the OsterCon. Listen to Hungry for History on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:22 IHeart Podcasts bring you the ultimate summer of love treat. This is Famously Available. Welcome back to Famously Available. I'm your host, Ben Higgins. And recently, we told you about Mercedes and her mystery Boston man that she'd met. They went on a date in Nashville when he was in town. They had a great time,
Starting point is 00:02:41 so he offered to fly her out to Boston for a weekend. Mercedes, who I would say is the most eligible bachelorette. We'll see if she still is. Maybe in the U.S. right now. I'm a big proponent of somebody dating Mercedes. somebody good. So we'll see if this Boston man is a good man. Is back from her trip now.
Starting point is 00:03:02 It's time for us all to get the details on what happened. Good or bad Mercedes. Welcome back. Thanks. We're going to call him Boston Man. Is that cool? Boston Man. Yep.
Starting point is 00:03:13 I like that. Does that seem respectful? Yeah, I think so. Boston Man. I feel like Alex Cooper when she had like all her like little, like, do you remember when she had all the little like side names for all her men? Yeah. Yeah, that's what we're going to do.
Starting point is 00:03:27 This is fun. That works for her. It's going to work for us. Yes. I'm not going to start with how it went. Let's dive into the details and we'll kind of close and go from there on kind of how it went. Obviously, we talked when you were here last about your Salem trip. That seemed like a big trip.
Starting point is 00:03:46 It was something that we were both curious about. Tell us about Salem. How was it visiting Salem? Honestly, it was fun because I was with him. but I would never go back. It was so touristy. I felt like in like a pack of sardines. It was like shoulder to shoulder.
Starting point is 00:04:05 And also like all the museums and stuff, they sell out really quick. So we couldn't do anything like that. We did go to one museum and it was actually like the worst thing I've ever done. It was just so like not put together. The mannequins were like from like store mannequins. and like the people it was actually funny though like I kind of love that we did it because the people just like genuinely did not like their job and they were just like so here like so monotone and everyone that was like on the tour we were like looking at each other like what the heck is going on but no it was still so much fun like obviously because I was with him but yeah I'm glad we went and I can say that I've been to Salem but I don't think I would go back had he been before when he was younger he hadn't been since he was like 10. So this was like a, obviously we know what Salem is. This seems like a fun day date. Let's go and
Starting point is 00:05:02 explore it together. Good or bad. Those are some of the best times is when it's bad because you laugh and it's ridiculous. Yeah. Then we mentioned the other big event was dinner with his cousin. Mm-hmm. It was so good. His cousin's hilarious. Were you nervous? Honestly, no, which is so unlike me, usually I'm like, what are we going to talk about? Are they going to think I'm normal? Like, I'm always, like, in my head. But no, I honestly wasn't nervous at all. Even, like, walking in, I was just like, all right, we're going to do this.
Starting point is 00:05:35 I don't know. We'll see how it goes. And the cousin and his girlfriend, they were so, so cool. We just talked the whole time. I mean, they're like, they're all yappers, and I'm a yapper. So it was great. There was a lot of yapping. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:49 Did they see you on TV at all? Did they know who you were? Yes. yeah that's always interesting my wife's family her mom had watched me and so that was like our first time we went over there very nice about it it was really not brought up just kind of in passing and then over time obviously questions were asked just out of curiosity there was really no judgment ever that I felt from them what were their questions like they were just like how like how was it what was your experience like so his cousin was actually
Starting point is 00:06:25 on a Bravo show called Below Deck. Ah. So he, like, kind of understands the, whatever, but he was just asking me, like, how it was, how filming was, just, like, the normal questions that people ask, you know? But, yeah, it wasn't like, because, you know how sometimes people talk about it and then they don't stop talking about it? And it's like, all right, let's go to the next thing, like, you know? But it was very brief and very, like, chill.
Starting point is 00:06:49 It was maybe, like, a five-minute conversation, and then we moved on and then never talked about it again. It is interesting, I think. It's hard to not know someone who's been on reality television. I think there's been so many and so many shows and so many seasons of shows that it, but I do think it's helpful when somebody can relate. Blow Deck definitely you could relate with the cameras in your face. I think Blow Deck is a lot crazier. I actually like that show. I think it's very intriguing. I've never watched it, but now I want to watch it. Oh, you have to. It's great. It's so. super fun. I mostly watch it and dream of being on a yacht one day. That's kind of what I think. Yeah. I think that's why everybody watches it. Literally. Did you meet any other family members that weekend? We did go to, so after dinner on Friday, we went to a little bar and his cousin was bartending. So I met him too. A different cousin. He has like so much family. He was like, I hope you know, like, in this city, I can't escape my family. Like, no matter where we go, because both of his parents have a ton of siblings.
Starting point is 00:07:54 And they, like, all the cousins and everything still live in Boston and around Boston. So he's like, yeah, we can't really escape them. I'm like, I don't care. I'm like, let's come meet him. I don't care. We're going to start getting into the meat of the weekend here. One of the best things about first dates or dating in general. So my wife and I have a question that we ask each other every night at dinner.
Starting point is 00:08:20 And I'm going to ask you the same question. The question is, what it was your highlight and what was your low light? We ask it for the day, but I'm going to ask you for the weekend. What was the highlight and what was the low light from the weekend? Okay, highlight is we randomly went to like this improv show, and it was in the basement of a CVS. And it was just like the funniest thing ever, and we were just laughing the whole time. And it was just a really cool show, and it was super random. It was like the show was at like 930 and I think at 915 we bought the tickets and got an Uber and went there.
Starting point is 00:08:57 So it was very like spontaneous and like I don't know. It's just fun seeing like what he laughed at while I laughed at like our different like humor and then like what we laughed at together. So that was really, really fun. I would say that was definitely a highlight or a yeah. And then a low. I felt well I don't know if there's like one specific thing but like I feel like something that I like. Wish was different about the trip was, I wish I was there, like, one more day. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Because I feel like it was really quick. I know. I know. All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. For almost a decade, the murder of an 18-year-old girl from a small town in Graves County, Kentucky, went unsolved. until a local homemaker, a journalist, and a handful of girls came forward with a story. I'm telling you, we know Quincy Kilder, we know. A story that law enforcement used to convict six people, and that got the citizen investigator on national TV.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Through sheer persistence and nerve, this Kentucky housewife helped give justice to Jessica Curran. My name is Maggie Freeling. I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, producer, And I wouldn't be here if the truth were that easy to find. I did not know her and I did not kill her or rape or burn or any of that other stuff that y'all said. They literally made me say that I took a match and struck and threw it on her. They made me say that I poured gas on her. From Lava for Good, this is Graves County, a show about just how far our legal system will go in order to find someone to blame. America, y'all better work the hell up.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Bad things happens to good people in small towns. Listen to Graves County in the Bone Valley feed on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And to binge the entire season ad-free, subscribe to Lava for Good Plus on Apple Podcasts. Samihante, it's Anna Ortiz. And I'm Mark and Delicado. You might know us as Hilda and Justin from Ugly Betty. We played mother and son on the show, but in real life, we're best friends. And I'm all grown up now.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Welcome to our new podcast, Viva Betty! Yay! Woo-hoo! Can you believe it has been almost 20 years? That's not even possible. Well, you're the only one that looks that much different. I look exactly the same. We're re-watching the series from start to finish.
Starting point is 00:11:50 And getting into all the fashions, the drama, and the behind-the-scenes moments that you've never heard before. You're going to hear from guests like America Ferreira, Vanessa Williams, Michael Yuri, Becky Newton, Tony Plana, and so many more. Icons, each and every one. All of a sudden, like, someone, like, comes running up to me, and it's Selma Hayek. And she's like, you are my ugly bitchy. And I was like, what is she even talking about? Listen to Viva Betty, as part of the My Cultura Popper. Podcast Network, available on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:12:30 In early 1988, federal agents raced to track down the gang they suspect of importing millions of dollars worth of heroin into New York from Asia. We had 30 agents ready to go with shotguns and rifles and you name it. But what they find is not what they expected. Basically, your stay-at-home moms were picking up these large amounts of heroin. They go, is this your daughter? I said yes. They go, oh, you may not see her for like 25 years. Caught between a federal investigation and the violent gang who recruited them,
Starting point is 00:13:08 the women must decide who they're willing to protect and who they dare to betray. Once I saw the gun, I tried to take his hand, and I saw the flash of light. Listen to the Chinatown Sting on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere you get your podcasts. Welcome to Decoding Women's Health. I'm Dr. Elizabeth Pointer, chair of Women's Health and Gynecology at the Atria Health Institute in New York City. On this show, I'll be talking to top researchers and top clinicians, asking them your burning questions and bringing that information about women's health and midlife directly to you. 100% of women go through menopause. It can be such a struggle for our quality of life, but even if it's natural, why should we suffer through it? The types of symptoms that people
Starting point is 00:13:59 talk about is forgetting everything. I never used to forget things. They're concerned that, one, they have dementia, and the other one is, do I have ADHD? There is unprecedented promise with regard to cannabis and cannabinoids, to sleep better, to have less pain, to have better mood and also to have better day-to-day life. Listen to Decoding Women's Health with Dr. Elizabeth Pointer on the IHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you're listening now. You're kind of hinting at where we're going with this. Will you be seeing this guy again?
Starting point is 00:14:40 Yes. Which is so crazy. I'm like, what's happening? this is so good did he listen to the show before you went on the date with him okay we got to get him to do that this is going to be good i still want to bring him on i know did you talk ever about past relationships like i guess instead of that question kind of what topics stood out to you on this date you've obviously dated you had mentioned that a lot of dates don't click for you I think one of the consensus there was that it felt like
Starting point is 00:15:16 the men you were dating maybe weren't as intentional about getting to know you they were maybe flaky whatever this I mean if you want to see this guy again it seems like things are going on the right path so what did he do differently what conversations did you guys have together that felt that made you feel like hey I want to see you again yeah I don't know we just taught like the way that we yeah I don't know there's just like chemistry and and I feel like I can talk to him about anything and I'm not like I don't this is another thing that I said I feel like when I've dated people in the past I'm very like not try to be the woman that I
Starting point is 00:15:53 think that they would want but I always am like oh are they going to like I don't know but with him I'm like actually like truly myself and like it's been the most like comforting thing ever so far and I feel like our conversations I mean we've talked about faith we've talked about about our families. We've talked about our past relationships. So we're both just like very open. And I feel like we're both being open books with each other. And I've never like really had that before. I feel like I'm always like walking on eggshells a little bit. Just because I'm nervous and don't want to like come off like I'm like being too much or whatever. But yeah, I don't know. The conversations have been really, really great. And we've really talked about
Starting point is 00:16:38 a lot so I mean obviously if you talked about a lot there were things uncovered that he learned about you and that you learned about him is there anything you learned about him that you're willing to share with us that maybe was just new information maybe excited you or maybe made you take a step back I don't know if they're I don't know if I want to like share let's see I feel like his faith I didn't realize that he he grew up Catholic and I knew that but um I feel like this past weekend, I really, like, saw that he genuinely, like, loves faith and wants to pursue that. And I, like, obviously love that. So that was something that I was like, ooh, okay, green check.
Starting point is 00:17:23 Yeah. I mean, honestly, after years of marriage, it is so important, I think, to see the world in a similar lane, not necessarily always the same lane, but to have that. that rock that you fall back on, that you can make decisions together on, that you can even have discussions and arguments and say, no, this is why I'm feeling the way I am. If you are like on two opposite ends there, I think it could be really difficult in a relationship. And I think Jessica and I coming from a place of faith has like really guided us in so many great places, even through arguments. And it's always it's always a fun conversation to discuss. not for everybody, but I like it.
Starting point is 00:18:09 No, I love it. Yeah. We had had this conversation last time. It was a big deal for him to fly you out there. He's obviously interested in you. I want to talk about, I shared like one nugget of information about how Jessica and I did long distance. And that we never left each other without another trip planned. So do you have another trip planned?
Starting point is 00:18:35 There's not like a flight bot or anything, but yes, there is. another trip planned. I think he's going to come to Nashville next. Does he like Nashville? Seems like Boston is, like, where his roots are, like deep roots. Yeah. No, he definitely loves Boston, but he likes Nashville too. And he has, like, friends here. So I feel like, and he comes here for work a lot. So he's going to come here to see me in November, and then he has come back in December, too. So, Mercedes, we're going to get to a weird place here, and I'm already sensing it. And so you're going to start getting protected. of this guy, and you're going to start sharing less and less about him because you're going
Starting point is 00:19:12 to care about him more and more. What are we going to do about that? I don't know. Honestly, I feel like, because he knows, like, I told him on the first date that I'm doing this podcast, and I told him it's a dating podcast, and I told him all the things, but, like, he doesn't know I'm talking about him on this podcast right now. So I feel like that's why I feel weird. I just need to tell him, and he'll be, I'm sure he'll be fine with it, unless he's like, that's so weird, but it'll be fine. At some point, I think, It's fun for us, good for the audience, to hear about what it's like to go on a first date, a second date, the first travel date, you know, the third date. And then all of a sudden it becomes like, hey, you're dating this guy.
Starting point is 00:19:52 What else are we going to ask? You know, we're going to start having to jump to huge questions. I do think it's important for us to get him on at some point. Yeah. I promise I won't scare him away. No, I don't think you will. I'll be your hype person. I'll tell him how great you are.
Starting point is 00:20:08 But I do think we need to hear kind of from his perspective what it's been like dating you, what he's excited about and ask him a lot of the same questions because for the listeners out there who have tuned in, I mean, goodness, like I said, I got so many messages saying, how are you still single? And I was a great question to ask. But as you enter into this new season, I think the listeners would love to know. I would love to know who this guy is that you're so intrigued by. Mm-hmm. Yeah. No, I definitely will have a conversation with him. And I think he would, he would come on. I feel like he would for sure. So that's definitely a possibility. I just need to break the ice and ask him. You do it whenever it feels good for you. Yeah. I just don't want to, like, scare him away, which it would never scare him away, I don't think. But I don't know. I definitely, I'll definitely ask him, maybe just not today. No, that's fine. You take your time. You do it when you feels right. But it will be something that we're very excited for. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:21:13 All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. A few final questions for you. You sit in a place right now that's so exciting.
Starting point is 00:26:19 It's so fun. How are you feeling? Like elaborate a little bit for the listeners on. two dates in or two times together in you're wanting to see him again like what are you processing in your head how are you feeling i'm feeling like so good again like i even think back to like my exes and stuff i've just never been i've never dated a man before you know like this this guy is literally like planning dates making it so known that he's interested interested in me and he tells me that I'm beautiful every day like I don't I'm just really really
Starting point is 00:27:02 excited to see where things go I feel like it's like a long time coming to like start dating again and I got really I don't know I feel like I'm just really lucky to like have him like as my first guy that I like to dive back into things um and so far it's been really really good and I all I'm just really excited to see where it goes. I told you that my first date with my wife in person, I left that date saying this is either going to be the greatest thing to ever happen to me or the hardest heartbreak. Mercedes, can you relate with that at all right now?
Starting point is 00:27:45 Yes. I actually told my friends, I was like, if he wakes up and doesn't like me one day, I will crash out. I was like, it'll be a full-on crash-out. So I definitely can relate, yes. That's a good feeling. It's an exciting feeling. I can't promise where things will go.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Nobody can, but it's a good place to be. And especially as you're jumping back in here, are you at a place do you feel where you, I mean, are you done dating other people? I mean, we haven't had that conversation. because, again, I've only known this man for a month, but I'm definitely not, like, out-looking, really. But, again, we haven't had that conversation. So it's not like I'm, like, just him, do you know?
Starting point is 00:28:37 Yeah, not to put terrible thoughts in your head, but if he called and was like, hey, I'm going on a date tonight, I want to tell you, because we haven't had the conversation yet, how would that make you feel? Um, I mean, I would definitely be like, damn, okay, have fun. Like, I'm not going to be mad because we haven't had that conversation, but I'd be like, okay. Like, call me after, I guess. Like, don't forget about me. But, no, I mean, I would definitely feel a type of way, but I wouldn't be, like, mad or anything. That's a very cool girl answer that I don't think you have to give him. I think you'd be like, I don't like this idea. I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't want you doing this we let's have the conversation now then yeah like don't go on that day yeah I think it's very fair you don't you don't have to hold that back at this point I mean maybe I don't know your relationship but it feels like it would make you feel a certain way and it probably make him feel a certain way so you're getting to the stage where that conversation might happen soon mm-hmm which is so crazy I literally like never expected this this was literally
Starting point is 00:29:44 you guys, I'm not kidding. When I said it was my practice day, I actually met that. Because I was like, this is just, this man lives in Boston, like, never going to happen. And now I'm like, can't stop thinking about him. It's crazy. Crazy I think of my guy like that. I know. I know it's crazy.
Starting point is 00:30:02 Yeah. Final question for you. Obviously, he is in Boston. You were just in Boston. Could you ever see yourself leaving Nashville for Boston? I don't know. It's really far from home. um like my brother texted me and he's like what are you doing in boston i was like oh i'm just
Starting point is 00:30:19 here to see a friend he's like well you're really far away from home i'm like i know um but i think like honestly i would maybe not like forever obviously but i would try it out boston's really cool i actually like fell in love with it it's a great city yeah and here's the cool part of relationships, it does feel like the woman in the relationship long term kind of gets to decide where roots are planted. It feels like it like leans more than like 70, 30. There's some unique scenarios, but it does seem like you could at some point say, hey, I really want to get back to family. Yeah. That's just how life works. It's great. Mercedes, we're entering into an exciting stage for you, one that all of us here are pumped for. I mean, I would love to take credit
