This person writes, my boyfriend's been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That seems inappropriate. Starting point is 00:01:37 What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Listen to shock incarceration on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcasts with IHartRadio.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Hey, everyone. Welcome to the Almost Famous Podcast. Today, Ben and I are joined by someone creating a little bit of drama, especially last week in Paradise. It is Sean McLaughlin. Welcome, Sean. Hi, guys. Thanks for having me.
Starting point is 00:02:30 again. Hello. Oh my gosh. So happy to have you. Before we get into the interview with Sean, I do want to say that this interview is to be two parts because he is such a big player in this season of Bachelor in Paradise. And we have a lot. We want to cover with him. So last episode, watching you back, like, do you think that you made some, some mistakes? I'm just jumping right in, right into it. Holy cow can we like. I know. I'm so, you guys, I'm, like, not, I'm not the best when it comes to just, like, small talk, you know? First off, hi, Ben. Good to talk to you, too.
Starting point is 00:03:06 We can, we can, we can hop into it. Sean, we'll get to the fun stuff later. Let's just, like, get the hard stuff over with. All right. Sounds good. Yeah, watching it back and it's weird watching yourself on TV, obviously. But I think watching it back, one thing that was, it was just a confusing night. So watching it back gave me a little bit more clarity.
Starting point is 00:03:25 I didn't know. Yeah, I had no idea what breaking. and had said to Rachel, I don't think I knew until I watched it back truly until I kind of got some perspective into it. So I thought Rachel was initially mad at me for talking to Jess that night. But we had talked previously and I told it I was going to do that. So when came back from that conversation, and for those you don't know, like you get pulled for interviews after stuff like this happened. So I came back, did an interview, I come back and she's upset with me, like very upset with me. So I thought she was mad that I talked to Jess and I was like, wait, you just told like you said
Starting point is 00:03:57 you were cool with it, now you're not. I had no idea that Brayden was making it seem like, oh, my God, I'm, like, Rachel's so into me, which was never the case. So I didn't know that's why she was mad. So it was difficult watching it back. Oh, so what did you think that Brayden did say? I knew she, Rachel had said to like Brayden told her something. And like, in the moment, I really don't remember what she said Brayden had said.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Braden, come to find out, made it seem like, oh, my God, like Sean's not into you. You're so into him, which was never the case. at all. So, like, I was confused why he did that and, like, why I was shown that way. So it was tough watching it back. Sean, it's, it's pretty, it's pretty funny to have this conversation with you. Obviously, last time you were on this podcast, it was kind of the lead up to Paradise and you weren't willing to even tell us if you're going to be on Paradise or not. Now we've seen your story play out. This, you know, this was a big, a big part of your storyline so far was the controversy in paradise it did from a viewer's perspective feel like you had said something like
Starting point is 00:05:03 you would kind of and maybe it was braiden's kind of commentary adding on but that you know rachel was very into you and you had always kind of had your eye on jess and so you had just mentioned that you and rachel had had a conversation where you said i was going to talk to jess um what did that conversation look like and and were you telling rachel hey i'm going to talk to jess because I'm actually more into her than I am into you. So to kind of like set the stage, like at this point in paradise, you're kind of figuring out like, hey, are we going to like figure this out together? Are we like open to like to go on dates?
Starting point is 00:05:34 Are we going to explore things? It came. That was like, I guess, the point where you kind of have to make those decisions. First off, Rachel's so cool. We were chilled the entire time. And I think she was in the same boat as me, like where I think we were probably meant to be friends. And like you don't really want to like force anything.
Starting point is 00:05:49 We're hanging out the entire time. But I think we really really. were just meant to be friends. The conversation was very chill. I was worried because I don't really want her to be mad at me. But she was the entire time, she's like, yeah, like, go, we're in Paradise Explorer. Like, have fun. Like, I'm good.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Like, I'm having a good time with you, but we're obviously still open. I think we were both on the same page up into that night. Okay. So, like, at this point, were you guys, like, you and Rachel, you're having a good time, your friendships, you're kind of like, you didn't know if there's going to be a feature, but were you, like, making out and, like, one-on-one, cutting on the couch the whole time, or were we just seeing those very few moments on television and most of the time you guys were not, you know, kicking it together?
Starting point is 00:06:32 I would say we were hanging out, like the first week, we were definitely hanging out quite a bit, like every night, like having long conversations on those day beds. And you saw a bit of that. But I think it was more like the second week was probably when we were growing more apart. And it was probably just me, like, where I don't know where I'm at right now. It's a little bit difficult. And I didn't, like, want to, like, lead Rachel on any way. Like, I think we were just meant to be friends.
Starting point is 00:06:54 We were both open. So I wasn't, I would say, as affectionate that second week leading up to it. Did you feel at all possibly guilty because you thought that Rachel is maybe into you? Like, where did Brayton come up with this narrative that Rachel's more into Sean than he is to her? Yeah, it wasn't like, I don't think Rachel was like, oh my God, I'm so into Sean. And we liked each other. Like, we're having fun. But it wasn't like, she's all.
Starting point is 00:07:20 all in on me because it definitely wasn't the case. So they kind of give some context into it. And me and Brayden are cool. Now we're friends. Um, when you get it, when you're in paradise, you have time at night. When you're really like not on camera, you really are on camera because they have hit like cameras up in the, in the rooms. But I remember talking to the boys, um, like Aaron S and Braden. And like we were friends. We're still are very close. I was like, man, like I'm just like in a, in a pickle right now. Like I'm enjoying time with Rachel. Like we're having fun. I was shocked to see her on the beach and like she's, she's super cool, super chill. But like I do like have these things about Jess that I really wanted to explore and like
Starting point is 00:07:54 no one was bouncing around. No one was flip flopping. So I didn't necessarily want to be like the first person to do it. Like especially like Blake's a cool guy. I didn't want to like go and try to steal his girl at all. So it's difficult to kind of make those decisions, especially when no one's flip flopping at all. And I guess I was the catalyst to what we watched on on Paradise where like once I did it kind of everything had to filtered out from there. Did you and Rachel only make out once? I think it was like twice, three times. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:25 The Paradise was a blur. It's not like we were making out all over the beach. I'll tell you that. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast.
Starting point is 00:08:45 So we'll find out soon. This person writes, has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now hold up, isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age.
Starting point is 00:09:05 And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips.
Starting point is 00:09:29 And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. Imagine that you're on an airplane and all of a sudden you hear this. Attention passengers. The pilot is having an emergency and we need someone, anyone to land this plane. Think you could do it? It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control. And they're saying like, okay, pull this until this. Pull that, turn this.
Starting point is 00:10:19 It's just... I can do it in my eyes closed. I'm Mani. I'm Noah. This is Devin. And on our new show, No Such Thing, we get to the bottom of questions like these. Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence. Those who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise.
Starting point is 00:10:39 And then, as we try the whole thing out for real. Wait, what? Oh, that's the run right. I'm looking at this thing. See? Listen to No Such Thing on the. iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My name is Ed.
Starting point is 00:10:54 Everyone say, hello, Ed. Hello, Ed. I'm from a very rural background myself. My dad is a farmer, and my mom is a cousin. So, like, it's not, like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago.
Starting point is 00:11:11 I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with... The story that no one expected to hear. The 22nd of July 2015, a 23-year-old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Paradise is such an interesting place. I do feel like Ashley and I talked about it last week, your timing from our perspective was pretty terrible. And here's why. True. Well, so here's why we thought that. this is where we wanted to get some clarity from you because strategically as a part of paradise you want to at some point talk to jess you made that clear like hey i came down here very excited
Starting point is 00:12:25 to meet you and like we never had the opportunity and it now seems like a good time however you chose to do it like right before roses were passed out and you kind of had at that point if none of this happened you had secured probably a rose the next week from rachel that would have you then to have a week with jess and then you obviously will have the roses next week. And so you're there again. Why did you choose to do it at this moment when like the risk is that like it does blow up in your face and you're left alone on the beach that night? Yeah. Thankfully I had my boys there. But yeah, it was pretty alone. Yeah, that's the thing is like watching it back like for me it's like not a game. Like some people
Starting point is 00:13:09 think this is a game and you like have strategy and like they're definitely a part of it like where if you want to have strategy, you can go and strategize how I'm going to navigate this shit. It was hard. Like it was really difficult. And I didn't want to potentially like lead Rachel on. Like I was there to find someone and I felt that maybe there was something with Jess. So like I was going to explore it. The timing of it obviously wasn't ideal if my game plan was to like try to secure a rose and go on. But that really is never the thing for me. So that's why you saw me do it right before a row ceremony. And I wasn't going to try and get just as Rose at all. Like that was like a big misconception. I just wanted to see, like, where she was at. It was not like, oh, here,
Starting point is 00:13:46 give me your rose and like, we'll figure it out together. It was really just wanted to see where she was at with everything. And because I hadn't got a chance to talk to her too much throughout Paradise. Where are Jess and Blake at? Because we, we're a suspect. Okay. Yeah, at this point, I think they were in the same boat as like a lot of the relationships in Paradise right now, where I think it's still early. They're having fun. They're viving. But I think they're probably both still open to, you know, other people coming down or exploring and see where things go. I don't think it's like they're locked in completely. I think they're just pretty open.
Starting point is 00:14:20 It was still somewhat early in Paradise. Well, and this, you know, yes, you've explained it. Like, you were trying to follow what you were most interested in. Paradise was a good, good spot for you to potentially, you know, meet Jess, who you were obviously interested in going into it. the side part of this was one of the cool storylines from the Steve's and it happens a lot in Paradise is the Braden kind of redemption
Starting point is 00:14:47 and not only the Braden redemption but also you guys as friends and kind of the supporters around him saying hey you know we're all friends in this beach let's do this well and it was going really well and so you know on the show we kind of see this blow up and that's kind of where maybe you know we have left at this point in the storyline him, but you said, hey, you're friends now.
Starting point is 00:15:12 I mean, when you hear that he was saying these things about you on the beach, was your first reaction was like, hey, this guy is who I've always thought he was, like even back on The Bachelorette, or was it confusion? Because he does seem so great on the beach, kind of where was your mind at? Yeah, that was a tough night because, like, one, I never wanted to make it seem like Rachel's more into me than I was to her. Like, that was never the case. I don't think I did.
Starting point is 00:15:38 You guys didn't see it. I didn't say that on Bachelor in Paradise. We have cameras ever. We have audio. No, you're right. We don't see it. No. So I was a little shocked that like you would go because truthfully like looking back like
Starting point is 00:15:50 you probably didn't even need to bring me up at all. If you just wanted to pursue Rachel, she'd probably have been like, yeah, okay. Like I'll go have fun with you. So it was almost like he was trying to like cut me down in a way and then like get the rose from Rachel. That's how I felt in the moment like when you're on the beach because everything's a little bit more heightened. So I was like felt really betrayed. I was pissed. I was like really frustrated with him. Um, because like a day or two prior, like I was just on the bed like rubbing
Starting point is 00:16:15 his back. He wanted to leave because cat had broken his heart. So like, you go from that, like I was there for him and then to like come out that I'm getting yelled at from Rachel because of something great and said. I was like, dude, what the hell was going on? Um, and he and the thing is too is like, you guys didn't see it. He was, he felt really bad about it afterwards. And there's nothing I could do at that point. Like it already had happened. Mine and Rachel had already had the argument. Like, I can't harp on Brayden for, you know, kind of miss speaking or misinterpreting, I guess, the situation in a way. And he came up as like, too, I'm so sorry. Like, I f***ed you. Like, gave me a hug. And I was like, yeah, man, it's all good. So, like, we smooth things over
Starting point is 00:16:49 the next day. But like, that sucked because, like, I thought he was, and we were our boys. But in the moment, I was like, I don't know why you put me in a situation like that. Oh, your forgiveness is really sweet. Yeah. I'm, I'm a good guy, I think. Maybe, like, contrary to popular belief at some points, but yeah, I'm a pretty good guy, pretty reasonable. Okay, so give us the lowdown on what else is going on in Paradise. So Aaron B. and Eliza seemed to be like the couple, the ideal couple right now. But we were a little confused last week because she went on the date with John B. And then seemed to have a great time, but then got back to the beach and was right back with
Starting point is 00:17:27 Aaron. So give us the insight on that relationship. Yeah. I think Aaron B and Elizer, they're a strong couple on the beach. beach right now. And it was almost a shock for Eliza to go on that date with John B. Also, where the guys from charity season are incredibly close. Like, we really do have a tight-knit group. We're all friends. So John B. got put in a difficult spot there coming down. And like, oh, it was a lot of charities guys on Paradise. So all of his boys are coupled up with people. Like, who is he going to take? So he said he had the best conversation with Eliza and she's an absent sweetheart and she went on the date. I think for her, it was probably like, I'm going to
Starting point is 00:18:04 go on this date. If I'm thinking about Aaron B, I know, like, that's where I'm meant to be. And I know that, like, last year on Paradise, I guess she didn't have, like, the best go of it. But she's a sweetheart. I think she just needed that clarity. But then came back and was with Aaron B and everything was good. Okay. I've, uh, Ashley would know how to speak to this, but I'm curious if it's change at all. One of the things that makes, that's interesting about Paradise to me, are these situations, you know, the brain situation with you and the Aaron B situation, with John B. At night, then, once everybody's back, I think you're all roommates.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Like, is it just super awkward? Like, I mean, are you guys like pillow talking? Are you guys just mad at each other? You lay in there fuming? Like, what is the dynamic like? All right. So I'm not the best person to speak to that night in particular because, like, I didn't sleep that night.
Starting point is 00:18:57 I was getting pulled for interviews left and right. Like the whole Braden and Rachel situation happened. So I literally got done with any of your thing. It was like 4 a.m. I was never in the place. So then I go back. All the boys are asleep. And I couldn't sleep.
Starting point is 00:19:11 So I just kind of wandered the beach a little bit. I didn't know we had security at night. They almost kind of came out with flashlights. Like, what are you doing? They're speaking Spanish. So I couldn't speak Spanish. I'm like, cast. Like, I'm on the cast.
Starting point is 00:19:22 And it was like 5.30 in the morning. So we just sat there. I couldn't even have a conversation with them. I was just hanging out. But I think within Paradise, you kind of realize that you know what at least the guys we didn't take things too seriously um so like when john b came down and like took eliza like erin b and john b were still cool um i think if it was someone from another season and that we didn't have a relationship with them prior to going down to paradise that might be
Starting point is 00:19:49 a little contentious but paradise was mostly charity's guys and then yeah will and blake were we're super cool as well so we all got along really really well nice you'll have to stay tuned for episode two with Sean. It'll be out momentarily. And in this episode, we are going to try to get him to crack about who's coming down the stairs, what guys are at play for this girl's rose, and whether or not he is a contender for it. Stay tuned.
