Starting point is 00:00:39 walks into a comedy club answer a new podcast called Wisecrack where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling true crime story does anyone know what show they've come to see it's a story it's about the scariest night of my life
Starting point is 00:00:54 this is Wisecrack available now listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's start with a quick puzzle. The answer is Ken Jennings' appearance on The Puzzler with A.J. Jacobs. The question is, what is the most entertaining listening experience in podcast land? Jeopardy-truthers believe in... I guess they would be conspiracy theorists.
Starting point is 00:01:25 That's right. To give you the answers and you still blew it. The puzzler. Listen on the eye. My Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. On the new podcast, America's Crime Lab, every case has a story to tell. And the DNA holds the truth.
Starting point is 00:01:49 He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. I was just like, ah, gotcha. This technology's already solving so many cases. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcasts with IHartRadio. It's the Almost Famous Podcast. Yes, we are here.
Starting point is 00:02:14 We are back and we are excited for today's episode, really because we have some incredible stories that came from Austin, Ashley and myself. We're in Austin for a panel talking about what it's like to do, recapping podcast about television shows. It was great. Loved it. So much fun. We were there with Teddy Mellencamp and Christine Taylor, David Lashor. Kevin from Glee. Kevin, yeah, Kevin McHale. And then there was, I'm thinking of the panel, and there was
Starting point is 00:02:43 you, and then there's Jenny Garth. It was great panel. And Tony Rad hosted it. And everybody had really interesting responses. I think the audience had a good time. They actually saw Ashley Instagram post, multiple, saying it was their favorite panel of the week, which is so fun. a good time doing it. Yeah. Well, okay. So we have a couple great stories that we want to share with you all, all of them embarrassing, all of them funny in their own way. The first, I'm going to ask Ashley about because we stayed at the Driscoll Hotel in downtown Austin. It is supposedly very haunted, has an amazing bar. The hotel was very nice. I really enjoyed my stay there. Yes, there are some,
Starting point is 00:03:22 they definitely play into the haunted theme a lot. And that's cool. It never felt creepy to me, except this little, like, doll I had outside with a hairbrush of hers and, like, that was weird. There was, like, a little display case out of every elevator that had, like, ghostly items in it. It was very weird. But, okay, so here's, I'm going to set up the story. Ashley, you take it away after that. We are in the green room before our panel. Everybody's in there.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Everybody is looking gorgeous. Everybody is ready to walk out in front of the 200 people that we're about to speak to. Ashley comes down a little bit later than everybody else. Not late. I was perfectly on time. Everybody else seemed early. You didn't hear what I said. I said you were not late.
Starting point is 00:04:07 We were just there early. And so we're all sitting in there around the couches, hanging out, having a cup of coffee, having a water, just kind of chatting about life. Everybody's very dressed up, including Ashley, and including the person sitting directly to my right, which is, Ashley, take it away. Okay. So Christine Taylor's there. And I was already a little starstruck by her because, you know, she's Ben Stiller's wife, but she's also like a childhood icon.
Starting point is 00:04:35 I mean, she's Matilda and Zoolander. She's in Dodgeball. Zoolander particularly was a big movie in like my early teens, you know, one of those quotable movies. And then she also plays the movie version of Marsha Brady. And that came out in the mid-90s. So I'm thinking like she's pretty much, yeah, she's a celebrity. And she was really cool. But then she's sitting down with the rest of the group and I am reaching over the coffee table to grab my coffee.
Starting point is 00:05:10 I pick up one cup and it's a little bit of a reach and it's too light to be mine. Like there's been too much coffee drink from this cup. So then I go, oh, the other one must be mine. So I really strain my fingers out. And I, with that, with that, I accidentally don't grab the top of it. I more so poke the top of it. And my coffee, very full cup, pours straight into Christine Taylor's purse. Like, I mean poor waterfall into her purse.
Starting point is 00:05:45 And like I said, she is a real celebrity, has quite the career, is married to a, I would say that Ben's dealer is pretty A-list. Oh, very much. And, yeah. And I can't imagine how much that purse is worth. And she's just the sweetest coolest about the fact that I spilled an entire cup of coffee into her presumably expensive purse with her expensive belongings inside. Thank God her phone wasn't in there. But she was so, so nice.
Starting point is 00:06:19 She was making it seem like it was more of a funny thing. thing than an annoying thing. And Ben was just shaking his head. He's like, could this be more classic, Ashley? If anybody in this room is going to spill hot coffee into a real celebrity's purse, it's Ashley. Well, and I had a great view because I was sitting again directly to the left of Christine. And so I saw the coffee spill and then I saw the waterfall of coffee.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Just, I mean, there was hardly any coffee anywhere other than in her purse. I mean, the whole cup of coffee poured directly in her purse. And I had this amazing time where Christine did handle it such an incredible way. Ashley, I would recommend that we make a note to send her a gift to say sorry. And she has like not like an ounce of diva in her. And that's a great idea. Thank you. And then I looked and I saw the wonderful Ashley, my co-host, who I'm so proud of.
Starting point is 00:07:13 And Ashley has no idea what to say. She is just in this like, I'm sorry. I oh my like just like a movie scene type response where she's just locked up like it was so awkward and so embarrassing and then actually embarrassing and I don't get embarrassed you know like I do really stupid things on TV and say stupid things on TV and I watch it and you know two seconds later not phase I will always remember spilling coffee into her purse and she made it seem like it was no big deal like she was like oh my gosh relax it is no big deal I have kids I have kids I have have kids. Yeah, she has kids. She's like a 20-year-old and 18-year-old. They're not spilling coffee in her first. I bet they've never done that. I bet that's a first for her. But the best was then the scene afterwards of Ashley and all of us in there, really, cleaning up the coffee from wherever it did spill. And then Christine had all of her items laid out behind the couch on the ground trying to wipe them off before we walked out. It was
Starting point is 00:08:12 magical. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect. And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen. Now. Hi, I'm Jennifer Lopez, and in the new season of the Overcover podcast, I'm taking you on an exciting journey of self-reflection. Am I ready to enter this new part of my life?
Starting point is 00:09:00 Like, am I ready to be in a relationship? Am I ready to have kids and to really just devote myself and my time? I wanted to be successful on my own, not just because of who my mom is. Like, I felt like I needed to be better or work twice as hard as she did. Join me for conversations about healing and growth. Life is freaking hard. And growth doesn't happen in comfort. It happens in motion, even when you're hurting.
Starting point is 00:09:24 All from one of my favorite spaces, The Kitchen. Honestly, these are going to come out so freaking amazing. Be a part of my new chapter and listen to the new season of the Overcumper podcast as part of the MyCultura podcast network on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What would you do if one bad day? decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth. Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training, hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:10:45 My name is Ed. From a very rural background myself, my dad is a farmer, and my mom is a cousin, so like, it's not, like... What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke, but that really was my reality nine years ago. I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. On stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear. Well, 22nd of July 2015. A 23-year-old man.
Starting point is 00:11:16 had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:11:46 that's one good story Ashley I have a good story that I know you're going to love to set up for us yeah as well okay so it's great that Ben and I both left this trip with two memories that will remember forever like these are great storytelling memories you know where it's like oh you wouldn't believe what happened okay so we went to dinner with Chris Harrison and Lauren Zima and this guy comes up to Chris and says Hey, Chris. I'm sure he said, like, big fan. Nice to meet you. And then he goes, so funny story, I actually used to date Lauren Bushnell's sister Molly. And then Chris is like, oh, no way. And oddly, this guy isn't looking at anybody else at the table. He's just looking directly at Chris.
Starting point is 00:12:35 No interest in giving the table a scan. And then Chris trying to be, I'll let you take over in a second. Chris trying to be a Chris Like goes So what do you think of The fact that you know She ended up with with Chris and not Ben Like how do you think about like the way her life path went Since Lauren was part of your life
Starting point is 00:13:00 And Ben how did it go So I'm sitting in the back corner Across him Lauren Chris is sitting across him Ashley This guy's very focused on Chris Chris does raise this question because he's, he's just good at it. Oh, he's messing with you.
Starting point is 00:13:17 He's messing with him. It's all supposed to be funny. And then without hesitation, the guy goes, oh, I think she's a lot better off. And then he goes, what did you think of Ben? And the guy looks, like at that point, he then notices something weird
Starting point is 00:13:32 and he looks over in the corner and sees me. And the kid had the perfect response where we tell everybody about social media trolls. Is everybody is down to be mean to you. unless they see you face to face. And the kid right away goes, but I loved you. Oh my gosh,
Starting point is 00:13:49 I loved you. I'm so, I didn't even know you were back there. Oh, dude, you were so awesome. You were so, like literally changed 180, changed his tune to being like,
Starting point is 00:13:57 you're the best man. I've always thought you were great. I just meant like she's better off now. And I'm like, yeah, I agree. We're all fine. Like,
Starting point is 00:14:03 but buddy, you were close. If you didn't look around the table in that split second, you'd had no idea. So the coolest part about this was that it was really, embarrassing for him. I was embarrassed. I agree with him. She's a lot better off. I'm a lot better off.
Starting point is 00:14:18 We're all good. But the best was the scene afterwards where he now didn't know how to exit the conversation. Couldn't stop apologizing and rambling. I think his thought was I'm going to go tell Chris Harris. I'm a big fan. I'm going to go tell Chris Harrison this small little thing that we may have in common that Chris might think is cool. And then I'm going to walk away. But instead now he's stuck because this all backfired on him. His kindness or his wanting to talk to Chris has now backfired to being this cyclical loop of awkwardness because he can't dig himself out of it. He can't get out of this situation. He can't be nice enough to me to not make that what he said feel a little like a jab towards me. And so he's just stuck there. And I finally said to him,
Starting point is 00:15:01 hey, ma'am, you're good. We're good. You can go. And I'm fine. Like, I have no, like, this will not ruin my night. I think I said to him, like, this is nothing about this is going to room my night. It might actually made my night. This might actually have made my night because this will now be a story I can tell forever. Exactly. That's how I feel. That guy was more embarrassed than I was with the coffee spill. Yeah. Oh yeah. 100%. Yeah. It was great. And his friends and family were standing right beside him. And so they caught on. And they didn't even say anything. Like they'd even, it could have been better, I think, for him if they ought to laugh at him, been like, dude, you're such, like, such an idiot. Why would you do?
Starting point is 00:15:40 this. But I think they were so shocked and thrown off that I bet that walk out was so humiliating because it's a nice restaurant. It was a nice dinner. I'm sure it was a fancy dinner for everybody involved. And now he has to leave being like the only thing I can remember from this amazing sushi place in Austin called neighborhood sushi is the fact that I just embarrassed myself. Legit, guys, just to say it one more time. What do you think about what happened with Lauren and Ben? Like, you think, you know, like you're happy that she ended up with Chris? yeah yeah much better off without ben yeah and then goes but i love and then turns around and looks at me oh my god you're so awesome dude huge fan so good so amazing and then yeah but the the poor guy
Starting point is 00:16:26 like he didn't you know he poor guy poor guy that's all i could say yeah he doesn't really seem like the type of guy that like embarrasses himself often or enjoys being embarrassed like he kind of felt like the guy, like, if I were to embarrass myself, I'd be like, gosh, dang it, Ben, you did it again. Like, you're on 365 days in a row this year. You know, when you spill the coffee in her purse, you're like, I've embarrassed myself a thousand times. This is me. This is me. This is the most me.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Yeah. For this guy, I don't think that was something he was comfortable with, which made it even better. Hey, Ashley, we do have headlines that breakdown today. Let's take a little break. When we come back, we're going to break down Bachelor headlines, once again, it was at a great stay at the Driscoll Hotel for the ATX film festival in Austin, Texas. My name is Ed. Everyone say hello, Ed. from a very rural background myself my dad is a farmer
Starting point is 00:20:05 and my mom is a cousin so like it's not what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club I know it sounds like the start of a bad joke but that really was my reality nine years ago I just normally do straight stand-up but this is a bit different
Starting point is 00:20:21 on stage stood a comedian with a story that no one expected to hear 22nd of July 2015 a 23 year old man had killed his family. And then he came to my house. So what do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
Starting point is 00:20:44 A new podcast called Wisecrack, where stand-up comedy and murder takes center stage. Available now. Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Raven and Adam take romantic baby moon trip to Italy. Guys, I love Raven and Adam. They're the cutest.
Starting point is 00:21:12 I watch every one of Raven's stories. I just want to hear her voice and all her cuteness. So they went to Italy. They went to different spots. They went to Florence and Rome and Lake Como to the special things that they did. And, you know, they're in their last little hurrah before baby number two arrives in July is, In Rome, they got, or Adam set it up so that she would create her own perfume, because perfume is her thing. And then the other thing that she said on Instagram that kind of stood out was just as she's like,
Starting point is 00:21:45 even when we go these amazing places and you go to like the most romantic country in the world, Italy, there's something about America and like you always get this renewed sense of appreciation for being a United States citizen. and I just feel that too when I travel abroad. I'm always like, oh, I love it here. This is so great for a while, but like I just love the comfort of home. There's something about home, isn't there? Hey, Michael A supports Daniel Maltby on New Business. The quote that she shares is hold out for a man that will love you like this.
Starting point is 00:22:18 This headline makes me happy, Ashley, because I hope this is a couple that just stays together forever. And I think they have a promising feature. they uh you know as we always talked about Danielle was going to move to Cleveland to be closer to Michael and his son James and now she's finally getting her work together there she has opened a place called Skin Center it is in Cleveland and she had a grand week grand opening with about 300 people and there you can get like your Botox you get your filler
Starting point is 00:22:53 and in this Instagram story that They were both sharing basically Michael's just going on and on about how amazing she is and how she's a great business owner and how she's great at what she does. And she just appreciates him being such a hype man for her, for her. And she said, you know, again, of course, hold out for a man that'll support you like this. Okay. When there's love, that's easy to do. Crystal Nielsen posts the wedding planning update and shows a sneak peek of her dress.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Yeah. She posted a picture of her dress with a heart over it, a big heart. So we can definitely see the vibe, but not the entire thing. It looks pretty form-fitting and it has a gorgeous train. They also picked out their wedding bands and asked their audience whether or not they should go with black suits for the groomsmen or whether they should go with gray. And the general consensus from Bachelor Nation was that black for a more formal feel, but if it's a daytime, wedding, then perhaps we should go with gray. Yeah. I'm a fan of gray.
Starting point is 00:24:01 I want gray with mine. Because Ashley, tell me if I'm wrong. I just feel like black is reserved for the tucks. Like the groom. Like, I feel like the groom should be wearing black. That's how I thought of it. I think it just really depends on the setting. Because we had black, but I think ours was like super formal.
Starting point is 00:24:21 And it was like in a mansion, you know? But like yours was more. like in a like farm by a lake feel. So it just matters to five. Yeah. I have an update here, but I have an update on top of this update. The, the headline is this.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Dean Ungler shocks fans by climbing on top of a flying airplane as it flips upside down. Yeah, it's pretty nuts. That's wild, right? I have something else to add to this, can I? Okay. Yeah. So Dean and I just played golf together last week. Oh, wonderful.
Starting point is 00:24:51 It was awesome. I love Dean and I love seeing him. but he's out here in Colorado and so Dean's everywhere all over the world all at once and I asked him what are you doing in Colorado? I just knew he was here because he had texted me to climb with him but due to some health issues I have, I can't be climbing 14-14 right now. And so I said, let's go play golf and he said yes and he comes down in his truck. And his truck's all suited out so that he's living in his truck, he tells me. He's literally living out of his truck. It's not a van anymore. It's a truck.
Starting point is 00:25:23 and he's just built a bed in the back. And what Dean is doing is he is doing a feat in all of my years of living in Denver that I've never heard of. He's trying to climb every 14er, which there's over 50 of them in not just a year, not just a lifetime, but in the months leading up to his wedding. Yeah. And the reasoning behind that is because once they're married and start thinking about having kids, Kaelin doesn't want him doing dangerous things like this.
Starting point is 00:25:53 14ers aren't dangerous. What's a 14er? It's a mountain that's 14,000 feet. So like they're like, it's like a seven-hour hike. It's done every weekend by hundreds and hundreds and thousands of people in Colorado on the weekends. It's like a seven-hour hike. They're beautiful. People accomplish them.
Starting point is 00:26:13 But for him to do this in like 120 days is something everybody on Instagram should be following because it would be a massive feat if he gets it done. And he's working on it right now. Yeah, he has this idea that once he gets married, that he can't do this stuff anymore. And I'm like, come on, Dean. We know you too well, and we know Kailen too well. It's not like you just get locked down in your house once you get married. In fact, that's the opposite.
Starting point is 00:26:37 He's not going to be happy. He'll be really sad. We don't want him to be sad. No, he's going to be fine out there climbing around. But the plain thing's weird. So again, here's the headline that we're going to break down. Dean Ungler shocks fans by climbing on top of a flying. airplane as it flips upside down.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Yeah, okay. So really, I could explain what's happening here, or you could just go to his Instagram, like Ben suggested, and see it for yourself. So it's one of those crop planes, you know, that you see that have the two wings over each other. And then, like, the cockpit is basically outside. It's like something that you would see, like, the Pearl Harbor movie. And he is strapped on, like every part of him is strapped on. Like, his waist is strapped to a certain part and his feet are basically pinned down and he's standing while restrained as the plane flies and he's going upside down. Yeah. It's another Dean type act where you watch Dean's social media and he's doing things that to me feel like stuff I would never do. He's an adventurer. He is an
Starting point is 00:27:48 explorer, he loves being outside. And so as I look and I hear this stuff, I mean, I, yes, if I'm Kalin and they start thinking about having kids, I don't know if I'm telling like my husband, yes, I would love for you to go get strapped to a plane and fly upside down. Like, that's probably just a conversation you should have with your spouse on what is the benefits and what are the risks. If you want to do it that bad, you know what? Go do it. But I think Dean's going to be pleasantly surprised when he gets married. and he's still able to have a ton of fun. I think it's, I think it's like, you know,
Starting point is 00:28:23 going to be shockingly awesome for him. Yeah. And then there's the thrill of fatherhood. There you go. Yeah, there you go. That's a risk in itself. That's an adventure. That's a journey.
Starting point is 00:28:35 We'll wrap this up with a quote from Dean. He says, Never pass up an opportunity to do something that makes you feel a little more alive. And then Kaelin wrote underneath, you're a wild man. Yeah, I'm sure. She just has to shake her head.
Starting point is 00:28:48 She's probably like, I never knew who I was going to marry, but this was not what I pictured. No, not all. This is not what I pictured. Well, the two of them are very happy planning their wedding, and the two of them seem like they're doing great together. And so we have to celebrate that because he is a part of our I-Heart family with their podcast. And so it's always fun to see that. And I hope Dean always keeps us shaking her head and laughing similar to Ashley did to me when she spilt coffee in Christine Taylor's purse. What a day. I just think about this, Ashley. Ben Stiller
Starting point is 00:29:25 heard that story. Yeah, he totally did. He did. They've been watching the show, her daughter and her. Her daughter's 20, and they've been going back and watching old seasons, which is really cool. That's super fun. Hey, Ashley, we have some really cool stuff that's coming up. The Bachelor at Season is coming up. We're going to continue to start to break down some of the people that are being announced from the season as we did together in Austin.
