I'm Melissa Jeltson, host of the What Happened to Her podcast.
We're kicking off the season with the Sandra Birchmore story,
a case the police rode off as a suicide in a snowstorm.
Her family never bought it, and the man they suspected wore a badge.
You never know who that devil is because he's wearing in disguise.
Sometimes it's a police uniform.

If anyone wanted to commit a murder, up here would be the greatest place in the world to hide the body.
But no one will find it.
He acted friendly.
He talked friendly.
He sounded friendly.
They all knew that I did the scary boogie stuff.
And I said, maybe she'll find out where this girl is.
I saw him violent.
Backhandler, a pow!

This is the Almost Famous Podcast with IHart Radio.
Hey, almost famous crew, it's Deanna and Joan, and we are jumping in to take over while Ben and Ashley are out.
I'm so excited.
We have a lot to cover a lot of stuff going on in Bachelor Nation headlines.
I don't know, Joan, I am like buckled up.
I'm so excited.
This is really good because, like, you know, we get them, like, right up to the second
that they air.
So we have, like, the latest breaking news in Bachelor Nation, which is Taylor Franke, Paul's
ex-fiance, Doug Mason spills on an unaired bachelorette meeting about meeting her kids
and proposing despite doubts.
I listened to this podcast.
I happened to listen to this today
while I was in my car going to pick up my grandkids.
And it was a crazy podcast.
I'm going to give you some of the things that happened.
And then you and I need to talk about this
because it's a lot.
So Doug Mason is not holding back
and not holding anything back.
And I know he's doing that because
the winner of Taylor, Frankie Paul's
unaired season, The Bachelet broke down.
His experience on the show for the first time
on October 13th episode of Bachelor Happy Hour with Charity Lawson and Rachel Rickia.
The season was pulled from ABC's scheduled before it's planned March premiere.
We all know that following the release of a video showing a 2023 domestic violence incident
involving Paul and her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortison.
Okay, so we all know about that.
We've all been wondering if this is ever going to come back.
And it looks like it's not because now they're letting him speak.
Okay.
So to me, that's saying, eh, it's not coming back.
Mason, who Paul confirmed on the secret lives of Mormon wives, she had gotten engaged to before they split, said he was initially trying to be respectful of Paul 33 and the series by not speaking about his experience, but decided it was time to address it after he saw her watering the experience down on secret lives of Mormon wives.
I realized that, okay, hold on a second, I need to jump out here and express to people that it was heartfelt and I leaned in fully.
Their connection on the show was gradual, but from their first meeting, he said he felt a sense of safety with Paul.
I didn't want to go into this experience judging her at all, so I feel like I had to, I had a soft spot for Taylor.
The Taylor that I met during the Bachelorette was sweet.
She was sweet and kind and generous, Mason 28 said, I love Taylor for who she was during the show.
But of course, since then, I realized that true love is and that it wasn't.
what me and Taylor had on the show was not real love.
His feelings grew stronger around halfway through the season, through the filming, particularly
after he met her three children, Indy 9, Ocean 6, and Ever 2, which he knew was an important
moment.
Things got even more serious.
I was terrified, he said, of how he felt after meeting your kids, knowing that a future
with Paul would hold.
I knew I was ready to meet them, but it was exhausting, mentally draining, emotional.
The emotional toll that it took on me was a lot.
So he met all three of her kids.
So, you know, her kids are from two different people.
They're from her ex-husband, Tate, and then the ever is from Dakota.
And she also met Tate Paul.
So her ex-husband, he met.
It was not apparently on camera, but he met Tate.
And Tate said, kind of like, are you ready for this?
Which was like the question he had been asked by many people, like, are you ready for this?
Like, everybody knows her life is crazy.
And he kept saying, I think I am, I think I am.
But then when he was finally kind of in her hometown, he started questioning things.
I mean, what do you think about?
Like, this man who has no kids now goes to Utah.
He's a California boy.
He's moved all over the world, all over the country.
His dad was in the service.
But he's like a California boy.
And now he's going to Utah, which mostly Mormon, so not his religion.
He's very religious.
All throughout this podcast, he talks about his faith and about praying and about
you know, his like talks with God and with Jesus, he talks about a lot in this podcast. And he says
that, you know, he got there and he was ready. And then he met her kids and saw her life.
And he got kind of scared. And he also started doubting that she was over Dakota. And he had no
reason for that. Nobody suggested that to him. But all of a sudden, everybody was comparing him
to Dakota. And he thought, am I like a substitute for Dakota? It was crazy.
Okay, for starters, I'm a little hung up on what he said.
Okay, I'm a little hung up on, but it was exhausting.
Mentally draining, emotional.
The emotional toll that took on me was a lot.
Is that in reference to meeting her children?
Because he opens that, quote, I knew I was ready to meet them, but it was exhausting.
Mentally draining, emotional.
The emotional toll that took on me was a lot.
Is that in reference to meeting her?
her children, that's off putting to me as a woman who has children. Like, that just clearly shows
it's not a part that he was ready to take on. But, you know, I also, I'm like living this like double
edge sword here because like he knew he got the luxury of knowing he was going on to meet
Taylor Frankie Paul. Everybody knows who she is. We've all seen her on, you know, the show. We know,
You know, she's got these, you know, this whole thing.
We all know, right?
He knew.
So to like, I kind of, I don't have a lot of empathy when he's kind of like, oh, man, I was slightly
overwhelmed.
Like, I don't know, man.
You kind of knew what you were signing up for.
I know.
And like, we all know.
And he talks about in this episode that he knew that, like, she had all these lives that
she was living.
She had her personal life.
But, like, her personal life was aired on TV.
So everybody knows.
like kind of her background and that that was going to be what he was going to be going into i mean
knows that's what she does that's what she does for a living she is a secret lights and anyone can google
her name and find her on social media her tic talk her instagram and see what kind of stuff she puts out
not to mention a lot of the madness that has taken place you know what i mean the swinging issues
uh the divorce dakota secret lives of mormon wives the other women on the show i don't
I don't know that I am necessarily buying it.
I believe that it was likely a very difficult situation for him.
You know what I mean?
I'm not underestimating that.
You know, I've both been there, Joan.
Yeah, we know hometowns are exhausting, but I think they're exhausting for the lead.
I mean, the contestant, you know, the guys or the girls only have to do one meeting.
You're just meeting.
They're just meeting her family.
She now has to introduce, you know, her family to a lot of people.
I know when I did hometowns like you, I had to go meet.
four different families. It was exhausting. It certainly was. Every day I had to be on my,
you know, I'm meeting a whole new group of parents, like my were parents and kids. Like I had
like a whole group. And so it was you. So you get it and we get it. But I can't imagine why his
would have been quite so exhausting if he knew what he was getting into. And we know that he knew what
he was getting into. So I think that he's playing this game a little bit. Do you think that he is
trying to be the next bachelor? That's the.
the question right now. As just a regular old viewer, I didn't need this interview. I did not need
this podcast episode. So much drama has gone on. We had such a lapse in time when everything has
been put off the, you know, under the back burner or whatever. I didn't really need this
interview with him. I didn't need to hear the details or where he stands. So it felt unfitting to me.
it felt kind of weird.
I'm unsure if they're positioning him in a place for like,
okay, let's do a temperature check to see if people like Doug
and want him to be the next Bachelor or not.
We know that they are set to record.
I'm sorry, we know that they are set to tape another season.
That's what we've been told.
But I have to admit,
I'm not so sure that it's going to get to that point.
The backlash from the Bachelorette season canceling
with Taylor Frankie Paul has been quite overwhelming.
I know.
There have been a few really great losses in this whole Bachelor and Bachelorette franchise.
And her season being cut was a huge issue.
I just don't know that I see it surviving.
I mean, and it had like a ripple effect because when you don't have a Bachelorette season,
you don't have the guys that didn't get picked to go on Paradise.
And it just has a ripple effect.
It sets everything.
back many, you know, at least one season. So now we missed a bachelorette season. So now we're
one last bachelorette forever. And now we're going to move into a bachelor season, supposedly.
Those normally have good ratings and they usually do better than bachelorette seasons. But,
huh, and people like kind of sour to the bachelor franchise. They're like, eh.
Joan, I feel like they have to like play it really safe. They cannot throw in another wild card like
Taylor Frankie Paul. Like they have to play it really safe if they're going to do it, someone who is just like,
I don't know, super cute, well-rounded.
Yeah, like heart of America kind of deal.
You almost need to have somebody that's been in the service
is like a hero in some way.
So they almost need to pick another Andy Baldwin.
He was like, I believe he was in the Navy.
He was super handsome, really fit, very charismatic,
all around like nice guy is what he came off as.
You know, very polished, very kind and polite and chivalrous.
Like that's almost well.
what they need to get back to, you know.
Yeah.
I've been hearing there's a doctor and they even like,
I think I saw a tease of a doctor,
like somebody wearing a lab coat or something.
So, I mean, that could be a good thing.
I mean, women always like a doctor,
you feel like they're going to take care of you.
I mean, that could be a positive choice.
I don't know.
I'm not sure if they can come back for this.
You and I both would love it if they do.
We love our bachelor family.
and we'd hate for it to end.
And we love bachelor nation,
and we hate for that to fade away.
So, you know, my fingers are crossed.
I don't think this is the guy.
I felt like the interview was very,
you need to listen to it, Deanna,
because it was very,
he had these catchphrases used over and over and over again
about empathy and being an empath
and about feeling comforted by Taylor Frankie Paul.
And you and I both met Taylor Frankie Paul
at the mansion when they brought all of us
previous bachelors back.
And I'm not sure if comforting,
is the word I would have used. How about you? No, I, you know, I believe that, man, I feel bad even
saying this because of everything that she's been through. But she was like a deer in headlights.
She was very nervous, very, very nervous. Like, I could feel the anxiety just like oozing off of her.
She looked uncomfortable in a room full of all of us, right? And we were like there to make her feel
comfortable. We were there to envelop her to say, like, you have the same red sweatshuit as we do. You're one of us. We were here to answer any questions you have. Like, way more support than any of us ever got. I mean, we were just thrown to the wolves, basically, when we did it. Well, I think the differences is like we were nobody's. I use that word very kindly. But I had never been on television other than the bachelor before. So for me, it wasn't a job, Joan. Like I've said it many times. I didn't walk away with a big paycheck.
Yeah, me either. It wasn't a job for me.
And the difference being is like, now after seeing everything and the press and Dakota and all of the other things, this was a job for her.
This was another paycheck for her.
Do I think that she was going to meet the man of her dreams?
Probably not, especially after seeing, you know, everything that's taken place, the press.
And then everything that happened on secret lives of Mormon wives this past season, like I watched that.
Her in the tub with what's his face in the mustache?
I was like, what is happening?
It was like she got a little taste of, I don't know, in her prime and was really going to enjoy every second of that.
She's going all in.
We don't know, Doug, really, because that season didn't get to air.
So whatever the interview is, if he is sharing whatever version of his side,
or if he is trying to look attractive to our Bachelor Nation listeners and viewers,
we don't get the story with him because the season won't air.
So we don't really get to build a relationship with him.
So I don't know that he could actually carry a whole season on his own.
Yeah, I mean, they have, you know, they have the season.
It's been produced, so it's ready to go.
I mean, they could watch him.
They'll never get their reaction.
Like, they can watch it from their bachelor eyes because that's all they have.
They're not going to see the public's eye.
So there's so much here, Joan.
And we could talk about this forever and ever and ever.
So we'll just have to see how it plays out.
And hopefully we get another Bachelor season to watch in the spring.

So sometimes we'll talk about, I don't know, the Uber driver we just

that weird news story from last week. It's the one you're thinking about, trust me. Or maybe we'll

I'm bringing you new stories and conversations every week.
Stories about women whose deaths were too quickly ruled a suicide.
She was starting to get worried and get scared for her safety.
Stories of survival.
The only difference between me.
and her, frankly, was a little bit of luck, because by all rights, I should be dead.
Cases that everyone else called closed.
They can't convict her, right?
Like, she has so much evidence.
These stories all start in the same place, with a woman failed by a system that didn't
believe her, that didn't protect her, that didn't see her.
No child should ever experience that.
And we were babies.
She did all of these brave things and came out and spoke about it, and he got a year.

Speaking of our Bachelor family, we have Peter Weber.
I'm not sure if you know, he has a girlfriend who is pregnant with twins, Jaden Carr,
She was on social media this week, and she says, womanhood is a superpower as she prepares to welcome twins. Like, I feel you, sister. I am with you with everything. Peter Weber's girlfriend, Jaden Carr, is reflecting on her pregnancy journey. The Bachelor alum's pregnant girlfriend shared her candid thoughts on expecting twins. Carr, who's expecting her first children with Weber, explained that carrying her twins has been romantic for her. She says, pregnancy is romantic.
She wrote, I'm unsure about that one, Joan.
I don't know that I would describe pregnancy as, I've probably felt the less romantic in my entire life, but you know, that's neither here nor there.
She says, quote, there's something so precious and raw about what our bodies are capable of, about how much we happily sacrifice for a little soul we haven't even met yet.
And I absolutely agree with that.
What a woman's body does is completely fascinating and increasingly.
incredible, starting from conception and growing, you know, growing a baby, growing twins in her case.
Yeah.
I feel like the person that we're not talking about here is Peter Weber, who is the worst person I really want to know about.
I'm like, how is he handling?
Like, he can't seem to get out of the headlines to save his life.
Like, he was just in the headlines because of the, um, the producer that wrote the, you know,
love producer, the one that wrote the book about him, basically.
It was a little bit about her, mostly about him.
and kind of throwing him under the bus a little bit,
or throwing herself under the bus, really.
And I, and, you know, he's, he just keeps,
and he just keeps ending up in our headlines.
Peter, slow down. Stop. I don't know.
Yeah, yeah. Well, more will be revealed about Peter Weber,
but like, congratulations to them.
Babies are, what a gift and what a blessing, you know.
And it's good to see them being so excited about parenthood.
You know, we live vicariously through our social media these days.
Yeah, and she's beautiful, so I'm sure they're going to make some beautiful babies.
Two of them.
Okay, let's move on because this is a really good one.
Something I really am excited about.
Ezra Frack, who is one of my favorite people on Dancing with the Stars.
He's the Paralympic Gold Medalist, reacts to calls for him to be the next bachelor.
So speaking of our next Bachelor, hey, how about Ezra Frex?
Ezra Freck, the two-time Paralympic Gold Medalist,
who has quickly become a fan favorite on Dancing with the Stars,
is drawing calls to be the next Bachelor.
Pop culture podcaster Morgan Page posted an Instagram video
in support of the idea calling Freck the fresh start
the ABC dating franchise needs.
So true.
Now I can get on board with this, Joan.
Me too.
I love him.
I'm unsure, but like we love Ezra.
I'm not sure if you've gotten to listen to our Dancing with the Stars recap,
but like let's make him the next bachelor.
And it said it would save them for sure.
Everyone loves him.
She commented on her post.
And then I love the idea.
he would be perfect added another. However, many replied that 21-year-old is too young for the job,
including the fellow Dancing with the Stars castmate, alum, Bachelorette Taylor Cameron. He would know,
I agree with him. 21 years old is generally too young, but I think Ezra Freck, because of him,
his disability is actually a really mature 21-year-old. He's been through a lot in life. He hasn't lived
the life of a normal 21-year-old. And he is, he's a brave friend. He's a brave
guy. I mean, he, he, with his disability, has become a gold medal Paralympic. So he has a great
work ethic. So, hear me out. This could be the change in the franchise that we all need.
I was honestly, and again, I'm watching Dancing with the Stars every week. I don't remember that
he was so young. So, so. I didn't either. He seems incredibly mature, but it could be the change that
we need in the franchise. Yes, he's young. But instead of it being this like run off into the sunset,
get married thing, like why can't we allow them to date and have a natural relationship?
Like, he seems really mature.
He's very well-rounded.
He seems very kind.
Like a golden boy.
Like, he could save it.
I freaking love him.
Listen to what he says, though.
Freck was blindsided when told by the post that his name has been thrown around as a contender
for the coveted role.
He says, really?
Wow.
I did not know people were saying that.
That is really, really funny.
He said, hmm, that worries me a little bit.
he said, I don't know, I'd have to see. So, you know, obviously he's busy training for the
2008 Summer Olympics, which is going to be in the L.A., so his hometown. And, you know, I feel like
maybe 21, he's kind of talking like a 21-year-old in those statements. Like, oh, my gosh,
like, that's so weird and like how funny. Like, he's not saying, like, oh, boy, what a coveted
role and how lucky I'd be to have that. So maybe he doesn't really know. Maybe he doesn't
know anything about The Bachelor. He might not watch it. Maybe he's never seen it because when
you and I were on, he was in kindergarten.
Well, I was on like three years ago, but I'm the oldest person that's ever been on the show.
Okay, so he was in kindergarten when I was on, Joan.
It's fine.
It's fine.
It was like 20 years ago.
And if he is 21, I'm sorry, he was a baby.
He was an infant.
Oh, my God.
I don't feel old a lot, but that just made me feel so old.
Whatever.
He didn't close the door on it.
He said, I don't know I'd have to see.
So we like our options, right?

So I just saw this Instagram reel of Jojo Fletcher.
She reveals she was blocked from going on dancing with the stars.
You know, from Hannah Brown to Joey to Tyler,
dancing with the stars has seen more than a few Bachelor Nation alums waltz their way through the competition.
But there's a reason Jojo Fletcher hasn't made it to the dance floor yet.
This is a little scoop.
I was asked to do Dancing with the Stars after my Bachelorette season,
but this was obviously 10 years ago.
I was not allowed to go on.
I got asked and then got blocked by the Bachelorette to not go on,
which I was so devastated about.
Fletcher Tells Stylecastor at Mucinex, Tampa Buccaneers,
tailgate promoting the brands 12-hour cold and fever,
multi-simptom.
Listen, I feel you, Jojo.
I also was presented with the opportunity and was told I could not go on dancing with the stars.
I don't know what it is about like they, you know, they want us to be seen and not her.
But why do they allow some people to go on and do really awesome opportunities, but not everyone?
I think so much has changed in Bachelor.
So I was actually interviewed for it.
So, you know, it's come around, obviously since Hannah and Joe, like a lot of people are allowed to go on now, like people that come right for this.
I mean, charity, charity loss.
went on like three days after she stopped filming or, I mean, practically after they aired.
So, and Caitlin Bristow won.
And Joey won.
I mean, we've had some really great bachelor contestants on Dancing with the Stars.
I was interviewed to go on.
I wasn't picked.
So maybe it'd be better if I was just told I couldn't go on.
So, no, at least you got the opportunity, Joan.
At least you got the opportunity.
You were allowed to go through the process.
Like, it was almost like a gut kicker to be like, hey, we'd like you to be on there.
And then for Fleiss and team to be like, absolutely not.
go back to Georgia and hide the bushes where you're from.
Yeah, go back to where you belong.
Well, now they allow people.
I mean, then they even allow other things in vaccination.
I mean, Taylor, Frankie Paul was posting on Instagram all throughout filming.
I mean, we couldn't even have our phones.
We couldn't even have our phone in our hand to, like, check on our families.
She's posting.
Yeah.
So things are very, very, very different now.
Yeah.
It sounds like it's absolutely changing.
Yeah, I'm not with the times.
Okay, so we have another Dancing with the Stars story.

She's like, touch her, touch her leg, do what you're supposed to do in the dance.
Don't be a prude little middle schooler.
I like her.

but I'm just worried. He's not. He's going to go far. Our young one, Tyler, he's going far.
We'll be there every step of the way to watch him. I'm with you, but I figured if he doesn't make it
all the way, then he'll make it to the Bachelor Cruise, and I want to hang out with him on the cruise.
Why wasn't I invited? You should be invited. Why the hell aren't you invited? I don't know.
