Starting point is 00:02:00 Listen to the new season of the Overcombered podcast on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcast with IHartRadio. Hey, everyone. Welcome to the Almost Imas podcast. It is just me today. I mean, Ben's on here, but it's not just me. We have our quote, Grandma of the Week, Marcy. She's joining me for the entire recap today. Marzie is part of the I-Heart family, and I hear that, so you are a grandma, right? Yes. Okay. Why hesitation?
Starting point is 00:02:40 Well, my step-sons have a child. Okay. All right. My daughter, she's 33, but she's still waiting. Gotcha. That's okay. I was 33 when I had my kid. And you're ready when you're ready.
Starting point is 00:02:54 It changes your life. It's sure. freaking does. So we are recapping episode three together. And let's just start from the, well, let's start with just like your thoughts overall on this season so far. I am enjoying it much more than I enjoyed the previous episodes of just the regular Bachelor because the girls are much more mature so you don't get the whining and crying like you do in the other Bachelor episodes. And what I really love it about it is that the girls are very supportive of one another, which you don't see that often. That may change as feelings get hurt and progress down the line.
Starting point is 00:03:41 But it's very nice to see in the first three episodes of everybody was pretty much supportive. You're 65. Yeah. So how do you relate to this group of women? I relate because I almost signed up for the show. I almost did. I filled out half application and then I realized it was so soon and I wasn't going to be able to get away, but maybe next time.
Starting point is 00:04:07 But I'm single. I'm a widow. I'm 65. So I'm in that dating age range of all these same women. And I'm finding it fascinating to see how others handle dating. I know how I handle it, but I'm never on a date with somebody else. So this gives me the opportunity to watch. Do you feel at all jealous watching these women with Gary, who's just a wonderful man?
Starting point is 00:04:34 I was thinking last night, where did they find him? Where? Every week, I am more and more mind-boggled how they found the perfect man for this job. He is so sensitive and intuitive and caring and he makes a connection with each person. And I'm wondering, is this real? he's like the epitome i know he is like oh he is not afraid to cry either and it's in an adorable way it's not in a like you know you know tears with men women interpret it in a complicated way sometimes we love it sometimes we don't want it but you were saying that you are refreshed by the fact that the the ladies aren't so much crying
Starting point is 00:05:25 You don't like the drama and the normal show and you like the way this has been more romance focused? Yes, exactly. Because when you get older, you don't want the drama in your life. You don't have patience for it. And, you know, when you're watching these 20-year-olds going, oh, I love him after they've dated him one time, it's a little silly. Yeah, but don't you think that these women are sort of doing the same? I know. I was, I know, I noticed that last night's episode.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Yeah, once you're in the bubble. Because he's facilitating a connection with each person individually. He's making it sound like there's something with each and every one of them, which gives them hope. But you don't feel that that's what happens with the regular show? Yes, it does. Yes. Of course, there's similarities. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:23 so okay let's talk about the one aspect of drama that there was this episode and it was the first conflict we had we had amongst women so first kathy the beginning of the episode forms a group she calls it askin um it's april susan kathy and nancy and the motto of their group is you're asking we're telling and kathy is just i they're the memes are out there so i could say on the podcast. She looks so much like Caitlin Jenner. I cannot think it's not. You know, I just feel like I'm watching Caitlin Jenner create an asking group. Oh, is that funny? But it didn't really go to where I was actually like expecting a lot more of that to facilitate. Clickiness. Yeah, yeah. We don't really see them form as a click, which I'm really happy because I was a little
Starting point is 00:07:18 concerned that they were going to seclude themselves. But I guess basically they're like, a little circle of friends and I do like all those women. Um, okay, but basically Kathy. It was very cute, cute. It's very cute,
Starting point is 00:07:30 very cute. But Kathy's definitely our dramatic one of the group. And she gets in some conflict with Teresa in this episode because Teresa, the day of the rose ceremony, where like you kind of just hang around the house. Um, they're like making lunch or something and Teresa starts just opening up to her about
Starting point is 00:07:52 the connection that. she has with Gary and how great he is to her and how romantic their date was last week. When you were watching this unfold, what was your takeaway? I could see both
Starting point is 00:08:09 sides of... Me too. Why they're doing this. I know Teresa is thinking that this is a person she made a connection with and as a girlfriend, she's talking about her experiences. but she forgot
Starting point is 00:08:24 there's certain times you're dating the same guy she's forgiving that and she's creating jealousy there and she doesn't realize it yeah she's like oh my gosh this is the first time that you know I'm dating the same guy
Starting point is 00:08:38 I do have to I will have to wonder whether she would open up like that in a way to certain other girls in the house that maybe she would find more threatening maybe like say faith is she going to say that to Faith, who got the first impression rose?
Starting point is 00:08:53 I don't believe so. I think she only opened up to her because they established a friendship. You think so? Yeah. And I don't think she really realized what she was doing. I don't think she was being malicious about it. Yeah. But it was very wrong. Yeah, I'm not down with that. Yeah. I wasn't, I wasn't down with the decision to do that. But I understood that, like, sometimes like that weird blurred line happens in the bachelor house now what boggled my mind was after the rose ceremony both ladies get roses and then teresa turns to kathy again and starts talking about the fact that he pulled her into a bedroom and they had an intimate conversation and i was like wait woman and again i actually don't think
Starting point is 00:09:41 she had and this is after the whole thing explode you know quote exploded it wasn't that dramatic but that's when the issue had been raised with Gary and the other women. And she turns to her and does the exact same thing. And I don't think they could possibly be with intent. I think the woman is Spacey. I think so. I think so. That's why I said I don't think she's doing a malicious state.
Starting point is 00:10:09 She just has no clue. Somebody has to, maybe the producers should tell her. But then again, they like it. The producers want her to continue doing what she's doing. It's personalities, what can you say? You know, you can't control your friends and what they say and what they do. I know. I think she's just the kind of person that probably just kind of shares everything about her life with whoever is next to her.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Yeah, but too much. Too much information is never a good thing. Especially if you're dating the same man. I know. My boyfriend's professor is way. too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious. Well, wait a minute, Sam, maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota,
Starting point is 00:10:54 it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy?
Starting point is 00:11:10 That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
Starting point is 00:11:35 you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzoor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. Starting point is 00:12:36 You were destined to be a start. And, of course, we'll explore deeper topics dealing with identity, struggles, and all the issues affecting our Latin community. You feel like you get a little whitewash because you have to do the code switching? I won't say whitewash because at the end of the day, you know, I'm me. But the whole pretending and cold, you know, it takes a toll on you.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Listen to the new season of Grasasas Come Again as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The Super Secret Festi Club podcast season four is here. locked in. That means more juicy chisement. Terrible love advice. Evil spells to cast on your ex. No, no, no, no. We're not doing that this season. Oh. Well, this season, we're leveling up. Each episode
Starting point is 00:13:30 will feature a special bestie, and you're not going to want to miss it. Get in here. Today we have a very special guest with us. Our new super secret bestie is the diva of the people. The diva of the people. I'm just like text your ex. My theory is that if you need to figure out that the stove is hot,
Starting point is 00:13:48 Go and touch it. Go and figure it out for yourself. Okay. That's us. My name is Curley. And I'm Maya. In each episode, we'll talk about love, friendship, heartbreak, men, and, of course, our favorite secrets. Listen to the Super Secret Bestie Club as a part of the Michael Tura podcast network available on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:14:18 these dates have gone too fast that's why i forgotten them because the show really showed in this episode to me that it needs to be longer it felt way too crunched into 40 minutes because the one-on-ones were blips they were so small we didn't get any that we got barely any conversation to the point of which with jones i had to like rewind and be like wait a second did i miss something because they didn't share much at all And before you know it, he's handing her the rows. But let's go in sequential order now. It starts with the group date rose.
Starting point is 00:14:53 And when I found out that like all the ladies were going to go on this date, I was immediately assuming that it would turn into one of those dates where the winner of the activity would go on the one-on-one. And that's what happens. They're going to whoever wins the talent show goes to have a dinner date with him later in the day. They're almost like monkey performers, you know, performing for the prize. I know. Well, the ladies really show. up they did a great job i know at last minute they were able to pull stuff together and it was it was
Starting point is 00:15:27 actually amazing yeah see i was personally thinking what the hell would i be doing me me too every time they do a talent show i'm like i have nothing um do you want me to write you an essay it's probably what i can do best that makes it literally that sounds so dumb i'm like thinking about my like my talents Anyway, okay, so the talent show would, we would have seen more of this if it were a long, a two-hour episode like we get with The Bachelor. We would have seen them coming up with their ideas and rehearsing, but in the version that we see, it's just all the ladies are there. They arrive to the theater and they are ready to go that I'll tell you guys. There was definitely some rehearsal that went on. So Sandra gets up first, she's telling jokes, she's playing comedian.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Ellen adorable. She teaches sex ed to middle school students. That is a serious talent. Faith sings. April also sings. Kathy does push-ups. Nancy does a whipped cream catch. Whip cream catch.
Starting point is 00:16:37 I don't remember this. Do you remember that? Yes, she did put the whipped cream and did that and flew it into her mouth and caught it with her mouth. Okay, okay. April jokes, and I love this April joke, she says, there's no age, there's just, there's always, but there's always Botox, and I agree with her. Leslie is obviously like the standout performance because Leslie, we know dated Prince, and he wrote a song about her, and it's about dancing, and we know that she's a fitness instructor and a professional dancer, so she was going to show up. What did you think of her basically giving him a mini lap dance? I thought it was great.
Starting point is 00:17:22 She was putting herself out there, but he was not the man to do it with. He has very protective tendencies. I have a psychology background. Oh, I was going to say, tell me more about this. And he gravitates to the woman that he could help and be compassionate with. and that's why he seems to form connections with the widows and the ones that are opening up to him and feeling vulnerable because he swoops right in to be their savior kind of in understanding them. So her doing the lap dance was way too aggressive for him.
Starting point is 00:18:04 Other men might have loved it. But in this particular case, she wasn't reading the room correctly with him, so to speak. I do think that there's a physical attraction there because he said last week, he was like, do you know, like, how sexy you are or something like that? Yeah, I know. But I don't think that she's the one. I think it's more of a physical connection. The girl that he left, I thought, you know, we got to get to Joan now. That's what I was going to say.
Starting point is 00:18:35 I know why. She was one of my favorites from the get-go. I feel like she was one of the prettiest ladies. there and she wins she was very concerned about not having a talent and she pulled through with one
Starting point is 00:18:52 she wrote a poem she killed it with the audience and even though Leslie thinks that like her dance is going to take over because it's like a true talent of hers Joan wins and I think deservingly so and they go to dinner and they have initial conversation
Starting point is 00:19:11 about losing their spouses and all the sudden, you know, she's got the rose. It's just one of those dates. It went too fast. She does mention that her daughter had a baby 15 days ago. And that's that's kind of what we got. She said that she loved being married. But I'm assuming it was postpartum depression of some sort, maybe.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Something of that. Yeah, because she had a traumatic delivery. So that's what happens the next day. We find out that even though the, the baby has been born and it seems that she was she probably left home just mere days two three days after her daughter gave birth based on where they are at this point in the quote competition and how early she had to probably get to the hotel before filming um but then she gets a she gets a message which is this is this is where i'm interested about the production
Starting point is 00:20:07 level of this she tells gary at the dinner date that my daughter had a baby and that it wasn't an easy delivery. And then the next morning she has access to her phone, which we are not given access to phones. So I want to know whether or not the producers, there's two ways this is going to get the could go. We, I personally give my parents, my sister, the number of a producer before I have my phone taken away
Starting point is 00:20:41 so that if there's an emergency, they can get in touch with me. Either that just coincidentally happened. And the producer just that morning was like, hey, we got a text from your daughter. Here it is. Or I wonder if for some reason, maybe for dramatic reason, I don't know, they were like, hey, do you want to check your phone? And they gave her the phone knowing there was a text from the daughter, just I'm just like interested to see how it went from them having a date that night before
Starting point is 00:21:17 to the next morning after the connection has already been informed. For dramatic effect, was there's some behind the scenes play with when she received the text message. Yeah. Do you think the producers got the text message earlier? Yeah. I mean, if I'm to be dramatic. Yes, I think that that is a possibility.
Starting point is 00:21:44 It could be. Could be. I could be, but I also, like, I'm kind of looking at it in, like, a little bit more of a malicious way. And I don't, I don't know if that's how it went down. Well, these shows are scripted to some extent. Not scripted, but, like, the timing of things. Certainly not scripted, but the timing that things arrive, awry. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Yeah. So there's some questions that I have about her departure there. And yeah, I know that she had to go, but I really think she could have gotten far. Oh, I thought she would have been, though, hands-down winner. She definitely could have been up there. I kept down thinking the whole time I was watching that, that, oh, my God, months later, when the daughter is watching this as we are watching it now. Is she going to be so sad? She must feel so terrible there.
Starting point is 00:22:40 that she ripped her mother out of such a wonderful situation for her mother's benefit, you know, that this could have been it for her mom. Joan is very grateful that he even, like, kind of woke her up again into the dating field and, like, made her feel like it's something that she can do again. And it was a huge step, and she got a lot out of the experience. I don't know that her daughter is going to, I don't think her daughter is going to feel bad. I think her daughter probably really needed her to bring her out of that situation. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:15 There's nothing in the media of what it was. They don't say if it was a physical thing. No. And then she needed help with the baby, maybe. I mean, yeah, she definitely probably needed help with the baby, but. Normally the daughter would be thinking she's one of many. It's like no big deal. But she didn't see the amazing connection that they had just made.
Starting point is 00:23:39 you know, and to rip her away from what could possibly be her future husband at that point. Well, what would you have done if your daughter, who is, you know, 33 and when she does have a baby one day, what would you do, especially since you're thinking about being casted and your grandkid is 15 days old? I guess family always does come first. I mean, that's as mothers typically, that's what we do. we always put everybody else ahead of ourselves and that's exactly what she did yeah you know it's hard though you know it's very very difficult yeah that being said perhaps joan knew that it wasn't going to be gary for her maybe she really liked him but kind of just knew in her bones that like
Starting point is 00:24:26 it wasn't the one that's a very interesting perspective i didn't think about that one because then she'd be like i don't want to waste time here like i really like him but i know like I don't see myself marrying him or spending the rest of my life with him. So this was a great stepping stone, but I don't want to waste time away from my family right now when they need me. Could be. Very interesting perspective. I like that a lot. Thanks. That makes us feel better about it all right. That makes you feel better. That makes you feel better. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously. suspicious. Well, wait a minute, Sam, maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. Starting point is 00:27:51 Listen to the new season of Grasasas Has Come Again as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. all right well now it's time for ellen's one-on-one and ellen gets to play dress up with michael costello one of my favorite dress designers oh my gosh what a fun date she picks a beautiful dress they go on a day date where they go to it's kind of like i know where they went we my husband and i have taken pictures where they went it's basically like it's like this it's like the zoo in malibu i think it's the Malibu. Yeah, I think it's the Malibu Zoo. And it's just like a really gorgeous picturesque, hilly, winery vibe. And they have just a little nice conversation. She was with her husband for 25 years, but they did get divorced. And she talks about her wedding. She's like, you know, what was your wedding day like? And he says he doesn't even remember it. But he does remember how poor they were. And they loved having the in-laws and his parents over just to, bring over free groceries and I love that.
Starting point is 00:29:04 He definitely looks back on that point of their lives with like a gold, a goldenness, a golden glow around it, um, where my parents kind of the same. I always just hear about how the rent was always late and they loved it when my grandparents would cook for them. So it's cute.
Starting point is 00:29:23 I like that stuff. Um, and then, yeah, they grow and become, you know, just, the adult together
Starting point is 00:29:33 you know so Ellen goes on a hot air balloon with him it's beautiful they're kissing he gives her a rose on the hot air balloon and it's just I think that he just kind of gets along with everyone could you imagine
Starting point is 00:29:49 Gary ever just eliminating somebody on a one one? You know what I'm not really feeling this connection could you imagine no way it's bound to happen it's bad to happen where I'm looking forward sure it'll happen yeah he gets he does form these connections with every single woman he he finds the good in every single person yeah he doesn't focus on the negative he only focuses
Starting point is 00:30:14 on the positives which i love about him yeah but it's going to make his choice very difficult in the long run for sure for sure i'm just curious if she gets to keep the earrings uh yeah she probably gets to keep these i think she gets to keep the earrings oh those are gorgeous Yeah, they're so pretty, so pretty. All right, well, that is basically the big parts of this episode. We had the rose ceremony. We eliminate it down to a very, a very few. Faith, Sandra, Leslie, Nancy, Susan, April, Teresa.
Starting point is 00:30:51 They get roses in addition to the roses that Kathy gets during the cocktail hour because Kathy just you know she needed extra reassurance I think which is why Gary went and got the rose for her early and then of course it's also Ellen's rose
Starting point is 00:31:13 and the ladies that leave are Edith and Christina we didn't know much about Christina at all and Edith I thought was a very attractive lady I loved her hair oh my gosh you have magnificent hair yes it was too bad to see her go but I guess they just didn't have it
Starting point is 00:31:28 together we never really saw them interact yeah that's the shame of it because uh there's only so much time i know for him to get to everybody or we just don't see it you know i guess if the the producers don't bother to film those the ones that he doesn't it's all filmed she did they chose not to put that on tv because she was going to get eliminated i think with the little amount of time we have in these episodes if these people aren't going to get far they're not going to show us much which is another reason why I thought that maybe they cut his date with Joan so short
Starting point is 00:32:03 because they're like, uh, it's inconsequential because she leaves tomorrow. Is the regular Bachelor two hours? Yeah. Oh, so why did they only do it? It doesn't work so much in the one hour format. Isn't it shocking? You think
Starting point is 00:32:19 like an hour long show should be fine. It's really 40 minutes with commercials. But it's really necessary. I never realize how necessary. the two hours were. Because, yes, you're saying you're getting a consolidated version and we need to see more of these connections. We're seeing a lot of the women's connections with each other, but we're not really seeing
Starting point is 00:32:41 a lot of airtime with his connections with him. We need way more conversations. We need to see way more of the conversations they're having because what we see is great. What we see is amazing. We love it. And that's, we're craving more. My mom always says, leave when you're having fun, make them want more. But it doesn't work here.
Starting point is 00:33:05 No, I know. Because we want to form our own opinions and our own judgments. And we're not given the opportunity because we don't see them really interacting all that much. I know. I'm sure next season will be two hour-long episodes. We just have a good, good-cut feeling that there will be another season because the ratings are amazing and the debut, like, just like all the numbers throughout streaming and whatnot are great. And I just, I just think that they made it an hour because it was sort of an
Starting point is 00:33:39 experimental season to see how people took to it. Are they going to do two? This is just my guess. I'd be shocked if they continued with the hour. Because I want to sign up. I know. You got to sign up. I want to sign up so bad Okay, well we will We'll teach you how to do it I'm looking for love America I think there's going to be so many applications For next season
