My worth is not wrapped up in how many things I've won,
Starting point is 00:01:50 because what I came to realize is I valued winning so much that once it was over, I got the blues, and I was like, this is it. For me, it's the pursuit of greatness. It's the journey. It's the people. It's the failures. It's the heartache.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Listen to The Bright Side on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcast with IHart Radio. It's almost famous podcast today. We have one of my favorites that have ever been on the beach. I was a big fan And I was a big fan of the storyline Because it got a little messy Which was fun
Starting point is 00:02:36 Mercedes, welcome to the show Hi, thank you for having me Thank you for being here Mercedes Northrop You guys know her from Zach's season And two seasons ago A Bachelor in Paradise Well I guess there wasn't a season
Starting point is 00:02:51 Last year So it was the last season A Bachelor of Paradise Well, Mercedes we know that there is some sort of casting going on for Bachelor in Paradise. Have they called you? No, they haven't. I talked to someone a while ago, but there hasn't been anything else.
Starting point is 00:03:11 But I know that there's like so many girls because there's two seasons because they didn't do last season. So there's a lot of girls that they have to choose from. And so now I haven't gotten the call, but I was kind of bummed. So I was kind of excited to like maybe do it again. But who knows? There's still time. You never know. So you'd say yes.
Starting point is 00:03:28 If they called you tomorrow and said, hey, we want you to come back. You would say yes. Yeah, I would definitely be open for it because I'm like, I'm 27. I'm ready to like find someone and the dating scene in Nashville is not it. So I would give the beach another try for sure. How long have you been in Nashville for? Almost six years, which is crazy. So I heard somebody say recently like, is it really the city or is it just dating in general?
Starting point is 00:03:55 What's your take? I honestly think it's dating in general. I feel like it's so hard, especially like at my age and this, like, I don't know. I feel like it's definitely just dating in general because every person, I have friends in like so many cities and everyone says the same thing. They're like, dating here is so awful because I'm like, should I move? Like my husband's literally not here. Should I move?
Starting point is 00:04:16 And they're like, no, it's awful here too. So I don't know. I guess we're all screwed if we don't have someone. The bats are honestly makes dating easy. Literally. I know. It really does. They used to call Denver Minver.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Now I hear it's hard to date in Denver. So it might be everywhere. It's just a hard time to date. Mercedes, which brings us to the next question, which might be a little obvious based on our conversation so far. But you said you'd be interested in paradise
Starting point is 00:04:41 because you want to settle down. You're ready. You're in national. Dating's not going well. So you're single. I mean, you've been single. Have you dated at all? Kind of give us an update on your romantic relationships?
Starting point is 00:04:53 I've actually been so single since the bachelor. Like I have, well, in paradise, like, I mean, I like talk to people here and there, but I'm very much, like I said, I'm ready to settle down. So like one red flag and I'm like, yeah, no, like you're not, you know what I'm saying? Like, I'm not just like dating to date. Like I'm actually looking for someone. So I feel like that definitely makes it harder too. But yeah, very much single, very much single.
Starting point is 00:05:18 What was your last great date? My last great date? the beaches of paradise I know I might have been the last one I mean I feel like I don't know it's hard because I feel like
Starting point is 00:05:33 the dates that I've gone on is just like dinner and like drinks which is like no one does anything cool anymore or that I'm talking to anyways like no romantic gestures or anything it's always just dinner and drinks even in Nashville when there's so much live music
Starting point is 00:05:48 yeah literally that's like another thing about Nashville too is it's so like party scene so like you'll go to dinner and then you'll just go get drinks and it's like you just you know party and drink which is fun but i also like want a man that's like hey i'm a husband i husband's material like let's go do something different but all right we're going to take a second here with you then okay and there might this might not go anywhere but it could be the best thing to ever happen to you are you ready so you said like one red flag you're out and you said
Starting point is 00:06:22 dating's hard. Obviously, paradise didn't work. Yeah. Now, granted, so many people from this franchise especially kind of could go through that same list. What is it Mercedes? If you had to look introspectively into yourself that you're looking for, that you're not finding, or that you are desiring that maybe you just aren't seeing that's right
Starting point is 00:06:46 in front of you. Like, where in dating are you falling short, I guess is the best way to ask that question? Yeah, I feel like, I don't know. I definitely have really high expectations, but I think that's, it's like a good thing and a bad thing because I don't give, like I said, like one red flag and you're done. Like, I feel like everyone deserves second chances and stuff, but I feel like I hold people that I love to a very high standard or someone that I potentially see myself loving to a very high standard.
Starting point is 00:07:16 So I feel like I could definitely like ease up on that. I feel like that's something that I could work on. but yeah I don't know let's go back then to some of the dates that you've been on since the show what are some examples of things that stand out to you that have really like given you
Starting point is 00:07:33 what as Ashley would say the ick I don't even know if that's still a thing I don't know if she's still saying I know I always think about ick too I like I always say he grossed me out I said that before the ick was even a thing yes sometimes you don't really know what those things are until you're experiencing
Starting point is 00:07:47 them in person so real yeah and it's also like it's so crazy because it'll just be like in a split second like it'll be out of nowhere and i'll be like yeah i don't like that i'm not interested anymore it's kind of crazy i like my mom was like maybe like you shouldn't be so you know picky and i'm like no but be picky's good they just have to be like you know whatever no i'll tell you this so with jared or i i always said before meeting jared i was like i know i'll find my person when like he doesn't gross me out like no matter how deep we get into it like he won't gross me out and yeah i've really never been icked out by jared yeah well i also feel like
Starting point is 00:08:26 yeah once you find someone that you like actually love like you're not like things don't matter right like you it's a sacrifice yeah like you like you don't even notice it because you love them so much like i do notice him chewing like cereal and stuff but like it's all good yeah no literally because i remember with my ex i did my ex for like two years before the show and the time I didn't realize but then like once we broke up I'm like actually yeah I didn't like that but you're so like when I was dating him I was so in love where I'm like no I love you like everything about he's perfect and then I look back and I'm like I don't know my boyfriend's professor is way too friendly and now I'm seriously suspicious oh wait a minute Sam maybe her boyfriend's just
Starting point is 00:09:13 looking for extra credit well Dakota it's back to school week on the okay story time podcast so we'll find out soon this person right My boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his... professor or not. To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it.
Starting point is 00:10:01 They had no idea who it was. Most everything was burned up pretty good from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught, and I just looked at my computer screen. I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors, and you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless cases to finally solve the unsolvable.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth? Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York state number, and we own you. Shock incarceration, also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training,
Starting point is 00:11:33 hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you, anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The Super Secret Bestie Club podcast season four is here. And we're locked in. That means more juicy cheesement. Terrible love advice. Evil spells to cast on your ex. No, no, no, we're not doing that this season. Oh, well, this season we're leveling up. Each episode will feature a special bestie and you're not going to want to miss it. Get in here!
Starting point is 00:12:19 Today we have a very special guest with us. Our new super secret bestie is the diva of the people. The diva of the people. I'm just like text your ex. My theory is that if you need to figure out that the stove is hot, go and touch it. Go and figure it out for yourself. Okay. That's us.
Starting point is 00:12:35 That's us. My name is Curley. And I'm Maya. In each episode, we'll talk about love, friendship, heartbreak, men, and of course, our favorite secrets. Listen to the Super Secret Bestie Club As a part of the Micro Tura Podcast Network Available on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:13:02 We've had a group of contestants come through. So obviously you were on the last season of Bachelor in Paradise, which I'm assuming for you feels like forever ago. Forever, yeah. If they were to call you and producers from the show listen to this, they do I know it
Starting point is 00:13:20 because sometimes I get in trouble so I know they listen and they call you and they say we want you in the beach because you sound like somebody ready for love
Starting point is 00:13:27 who and you can't dodge this question it's unfortunate but we are a show about content and this is a moment of content give us like
Starting point is 00:13:37 if you can give us five great if you give us three awesome if you give us two still good people that you would love to see there
Starting point is 00:13:45 okay I feel like me and Andrew Spencer would like vibe really well. I see it. I see it. Yeah. I love him. Have you ever met? No, we haven't met but like we like follow each other and like we've like face-timed a couple times and we just like he's so funny and I feel but I've never met him in person and I'm like I want to meet him in person just to like see what it's like. Um, so I definitely like want to see him and who else?
Starting point is 00:14:15 I'm trying to think of like the guys on Jen season that are newer. yeah you're gonna go you're gonna just like twist your brain and be like yeah there wasn't one of them um what about like a justing glaze is he single i guess i should ask but we don't know we don't know what's really going on with him and susy yeah he's a nice guy i like him i like andrew a lot gregg's great like that group that was a good katy season yeah yeah it was a good katy season so and that wasn't that long ago charity season had who like what guys are coming off of that um like John, so I was with a lot of guys from charity season on my paradise. So like John Henry, Sean, a bunch of, yeah, a bunch of them.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Yeah, okay, because that's, that's Joey, was the bachelor following that. So those are the guys, Sean. So we can't really look into that. We'd have to pull back from the past. I see an Andrew Spencer relationship pop it out. You know, it's cute. So we really don't have to cross this off the list. This is a real potential moment.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Throw it out there. He's going to hear this now. Goodness gracious. I know he'd be like Mercedes. Cute. Yeah, let's bring back Katie's guys for this season of Paradise. Okay. You have so many girlfriends from the show that you travel with often.
Starting point is 00:15:33 You have these big girl get-togethers. We heard that Latia was the odd one out or maybe the new member of the crew. Yes. At your most recent trip. how we kind of know how she got there she's friends with somebody one of your one of your girls
Starting point is 00:15:55 yeah how did she melt in with the crew she honestly was like it was like she's been like she was on our season like we like literally all got so close on that trip when we were in Montana
Starting point is 00:16:08 it was cold it was so freaking cold we literally just sat in the house the whole time basically we went on like you said it made you guys bitchy to other. No, it actually did. We literally, I think Jess was like, yeah, I think we need to stick
Starting point is 00:16:20 with like warmer climates. Like, this is not for us. And I'm like, that's so true because we were just like on edge. But no, she literally is amazing. I love her. I haven't really been watching her season, but just meeting her, like she's absolutely like, first off, she's stunning. Like, she's the most beautiful person I've ever seen. And she's just so sweet and kind. And she, yeah, she got along really well with our group. It just shows, though. Am I wrong in saying this, Mercedes? Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:51 So we just talked to Gabby. I watched the girls trip from social media and I was like, that looks like the best trip of all time. Like that looks like it's nothing but highlights. Everybody is just soaking in the beauty and the mountains. And then we talked to Gabby and she's like, it was good. It was great. We had a blast together.
Starting point is 00:17:09 We love each other. But it was like definitely more like contentious than other trips. And like we got stuck in the snow a little bit. it and people were freezing. I was like, it really sounds like to me is you had moments of beauty surrounded by moments of
Starting point is 00:17:24 this isn't the best trip we've ever taken together. So social media really like lifted this thing up, right? Like we were watching the highlights of it and not the whole thing. Yeah, I definitely think like there was times where we like,
Starting point is 00:17:38 but I also like I was telling them this. I was like, we've been friends for like three years now and you guys probably attest to this. Like when you're, on the show like the friends you meet on the show it's a different kind of relationship because you grow like you get so close so fast so close so fast because of just the environment and i was like we've been friends for three years like this is like normal to happen like it's not you know what i'm
Starting point is 00:17:59 saying so there was definitely some tiffs but it was all love and we're we were good but yeah you definitely saw the highlights on instagram and it was still a fun trip it wasn't bad because of it but definitely some tips who do you want from that group to be with you in paradise Honestly, Jess. Yeah, I feel like all the guys want Just too. They love Jess. Literally, Jess is like a magnet.
Starting point is 00:18:24 Like, men just love her. But it's because she's like, she's so nice and so kind and so beautiful. Like, I get it. But I'm like, yeah, you need to come. You'll be my wing woman on Paradise. Mercedes, I feel like you and I are the same. Like, Jess is like the girl that just every guy around us wants to be with because like,
Starting point is 00:18:40 she's just like soft spoken and like so sweet. And then you and I are just like, what? You are their big personalities. Yes. No, literally, me and Jess will be leaving each other out. But honestly, I will say Jess is like feisty. Like I call her my little chihuahua. She's like a little feisty chihuahua. Like she is so sweet, but then she can get so feisty too.
Starting point is 00:19:00 I love it. Isn't she Puerto Rican? Yes. Yeah, she has a little that like Puerto Rican flair. Yeah, it makes sense. It does. Yes. It's in there.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Yeah. Obviously, you're like super, I mean, just kind of how with how the show's gone. Like, your time of the show, as we mentioned, wasn't that long ago. And we sit in this really weird place. You were on Paradise when the show was popping off, really. I mean, you know, you're coming into the, like, the golden, like, era. And then, you know, we have Joey's season. We have all these, like, really exciting things.
Starting point is 00:19:31 And we've been through this many times before. But it feels like we're in a wall right now when it comes to the franchise. So my first question, two-parter to you is, are you watching, like, watching Grant's season? I watched the first episode. and then I You were just like It didn't get you right Because I was like
Starting point is 00:19:48 This first episode's a drug And we wanted to come back here Mercedes And so my second part of this Is like what is the show need to do in your opinion To really like spark things up again Yeah I feel like For paradise
Starting point is 00:20:03 Because have you guys You guys went on Paradise City Did you guys go? I was he was not Yes okay I feel like it was just very like You kind of lay around and like don't do much.
Starting point is 00:20:15 You know what I'm saying? Like I feel like if there was like games or kind of like Love Islandy not like obviously it's like on ABC so it's gonna be family friendly but like I feel like just like games or doing something
Starting point is 00:20:28 other than just like laying around and just talking all the time. Every day is a little bit monotonous. I totally understand. There's a lot of time for talking. So if you are hitting it off with somebody it could be great. But it's also like a little worrisome.
Starting point is 00:20:43 And you're like, what are you going to do together other than just talk all day? That's why everybody gets so excited for dates in Paris. Yes. But yeah, you're right. If we had like some more group activities, that would be good. Yeah, that would be good TV too. When I was there, we played, what did we play? Truth or Dare.
Starting point is 00:20:59 One night, we were just bored and we were like, we're playing Truth or Dare and we did it. And it was so much fun. And I don't even think it aired, to be honest. I don't think it did. But it was so fun. And it like made everyone, it just like lifted the mood. You know what I'm saying? And so I feel like them doing that would like really
Starting point is 00:21:15 One, it would stir the pot Two, which is good for viewers If they're like trying to get more viewers And then two like it's just I don't know I just think it's more fun But what about the main show? Oh, for Bachelor or Bachelorette Um
Starting point is 00:21:30 Yeah, I mean I feel like I don't know I honestly am so bad I mean I watched Joey season a little bit But I mean Joey season did so good though Like, I don't know. I feel like his season was really good. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Oh, wait a minute, Sam.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now hold up, isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age.
Starting point is 00:22:20 It's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I'm Janica Lopez, and in the new season of the Overcover podcast, I'm taking you on an exciting journey of self-reflection. Am I ready to enter this new part of my life? Like, am I ready to be in a relationship?
Starting point is 00:23:52 Am I ready to have kids and to really just devote myself and my time? I wanted to be successful on my own, not just because of who my mom is. Like, I felt like I needed to be better or work twice as hard as she did. Join me for conversations about healing and growth. Life is freaking hard. And growth doesn't happen in comfort. It happens in motion, even when you're hurting. All from one of my favorite spaces, The Kitchen.
Starting point is 00:24:18 Honestly, these are going to come out so freaking amazing. Be a part of my new chapter and listen to the new season of the Overcumper podcast as part of the MyCultura podcast network on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hola, it's HoneyGerman and my podcast. Grasasas Come Again is back. This season, we're going even deeper into the world of music and entertainment with raw and honest conversations
Starting point is 00:24:45 with some of your favorite Latin artists and celebrities. You didn't have to audition? No, I didn't audition. I haven't auditioned in like over 25 years. Oh, wow. That's a real G-talk right there. Oh, yeah. We've got some of the biggest actors,
Starting point is 00:24:58 musicians, content creators, and culture shifters sharing their real stories of failure and success. You were destined to be a... We talk all about what's viral and trending with a little bit of chisement, a lot of laughs, and those amazing Vibras you've come to expect. And, of course, we'll explore deeper topics dealing with identity, struggles, and all the issues affecting our Latin community. You feel like you get a little whitewash because you have to do the code switching?
Starting point is 00:25:26 I won't say whitewash because at the end of the day, you know, I'm me. But the whole pretending and code, you know, it takes a toll on you. Listen to the new season of Grasasasas Come Again as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. It's kind of a mix between casting. I mean, I think the lead and how popular lead is coming off of the previous season, I think, is a huge factor. For sure. And I do think the format gets, you know, monotonous when we have all these other shows
Starting point is 00:26:04 competing with it now. And instead of watching The Bachelor, you could watch. you know love is blind and see them try to make life together and figure out what it looks like in the end i get yeah but you're really talking about paradise um and i do think it was a right move i was supportive of this move i think it was uh done uh at a time that it was needed to however i do think the lack of drinking has also taken away from the activities of the day i think that for the show filled so much space. It brought so much drama that now that it doesn't exist, they have to find a way to keep everybody engaged and interested when there is that drink limit. Yes. No, I agree.
Starting point is 00:26:47 I will say, though, on Paradise, I was like, I had a good buzz most of the time, especially at night. At night, I was like, me and Kylie and Jess, we would drink white wine because you can have like two drinks or whatever. So we would drink white wine and then like on the hour we would take a shot of tequila and then drink what and then we had we had like a system going and so like I definitely had some nights of Paris there was a night where I literally kissed well I think uh it was like I think it was a cockroach honestly it was like you kissed a cockroach I literally was holding it I was not actually I didn't actually kiss it but I was like I had it like right here and I was like I watched that it was on a blooper and Wells like I think Wells was talking about it
Starting point is 00:27:28 somewhere and I'm like oh my gosh like I literally did that Mercedes this would be my first dating tip to you don't do this in front of the boys that's that's like number one take if you take nothing away from this don't kiss cockroaches in front of the boys no i literally because rachel was holding it rachel uh was like letting it crawl all over and we were just like honestly drinking and we were just messing around and i don't even think there was guys around so hopefully it's yeah but it definitely aired so they got it's all there so i feel like i could never get a buzz in paradise because I was sweating the alcohol out the second it would like go into my system. Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:05 No. Honestly, though, like it was not that hot for us in Paradise. Like it was hot. Like there was like probably three times where I was like, holy shit. Like I need to get an AC. But other than that, like it really, it wasn't that bad. But it was, I don't know. It was just a time.
Starting point is 00:28:21 I don't know. That was a unique summer then. Yeah. I know. Mercedes, the listeners out there obviously saw you on Paradise go through. If I remember right, and tell me if I'm wrong. It was like, Will falling in love with you. Right?
Starting point is 00:28:37 Yeah. And then you weren't feeling it and you went to Tyler. Mm-hmm. And then somehow in there, there was somebody else that I don't remember. Jordan, maybe? Jordan, yeah, he was at the end, yep. So you kind of had this, like, love triangle that it wasn't a triangle because they just kind of came and went. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Can you walk us back through now as you think about it? Did you do anything you wish you could take back during that season where you're like, I wish I would have stayed with this person or I wish I would have never entered into it. Yeah. I, yeah, I wish I would not have like been with Tyler that long, to be honest. Like me and him, like he's cool. He seemed checked out from the very beginning, to be honest. Very much so.
Starting point is 00:29:22 And I feel like I was like so, you know, like before Paradise, like you get so hyped up. And like Kylie was with Avin and me and Kylie are best friends. and even in Tyler, our best friend. So I'm like, oh, my gosh, this is perfect. So I had, like, this, like, all in my head. And I feel like I stayed with him because it was, like, easy. And we were just, like, you know, coasting. I wish I would have not done that and, like, actually, like, dated around and, like,
Starting point is 00:29:48 trying to get other connections. Because I do think that, like, there could have been something somewhere else. I don't know with who. But, like, I don't know. That's, like, my biggest regret, honestly, that I wish I could, like, redo is just not being with Tyler so long yeah a final question for you we just went through the paradise scenario we talked about you not dating what is life like for you now like what does it look like day to day um i also think this could be for the producers who are listening to say you either have no time on
Starting point is 00:30:22 your hands or you have a little time on your hands honestly i like so i'm modeled during the week And then I actually work at Barstool on the weekends, which is a bar in Nashville. And then I do like a lot of volunteering. So, and I travel a lot. I'm really kind of all over the place. But I love my life right now. Honestly, it's like so easy. I'm just go with the flow.
Starting point is 00:30:45 But yeah, basically just chilling, honestly. Well, it's out in the world now. Mercedes, thanks for jumping on. Of course. We appreciate it.
