This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous Podcast with IHartRadio.
It's the Almost Famous Podcast, and it's producer Heather jumping in with the number three most shocking moment in Bachelor Nation for 2025.
This moment was a viral sensation.
It was all over the internet and was a situation about secrets and betrayal.
The number three most shocking moment this year was the Danish deception.
Anyaka was on Colton season of The Bachelor back in 2019, and that's where we first met her.
But this year, she went viral in November 2025 when she started to share her story in what she titled The Danish Deception on TikTok.
It was very much in the same vein as Risa Tisa's viral TikTok story,
Who the F Did I Marry?
That came out a year earlier.
Through her 25-part saga, Onieka details how she fell in love with a Danish man
while vacationing in Croatia.
It becomes kind of a whirlwind romance.
Everything is very fast.
And kind of early on, there are some signs that maybe she should have looked into,
but this man tells her he's from royal lineage
and she hears him tell someone
he's a former Olympic athlete in handball.
Now, she never really looks into any of these things
and kind of just takes them for face value.
I think she ends up regretting that.
But yeah, I think most people would do a quick Google search
and kind of look into those things, but alas, she did not.
there were so many shocking twists in this story, but one early on is a dinner date that they
have on Yaka ends up falling, hitting her head, and having seizures. And this is all within very
early stages of them getting to know each other. But it's in this scary moment that he tells
he loves her for the first time because she's already told him she loves him. And this is probably a
big moment for them as a couple because she's really building trust. Even we're not going to get
into it, but like, why is she having seizures? She's never had seizures before. This whole moment in
the story was very scary and crazy to listen back to. But not long after this experience is when
money starts to come into this conversation. He starts saying he needs money, but when she offers,
he won't accept, but eventually he gives into her loaning him $6,000 and he says, this will be the last
time. Spoiler, it's not. Throughout the multi-part TikTok series, Anyaka shares that the asks for money
become more and more frequent, but to her, they always seem legit. So he claims to her that he
owns apartment complex and other places back in Denmark. And he'll say, like, something broke at
the apartment complex he owns and he can't fix it because his assets are tied up in something
else. And, you know, Anyaka has a background in real estate, but obviously real estate
laws are different, dependent on the country. So she takes a lot of what he says at face value. And
especially in these early stages of their relationship, she doesn't push back and she doesn't
look into these things. So, you know, she's just very trusting in what he's saying because
to her, they're in love, you know, why would he have any reason to lie to her about something
like this, you know? And plus, she thinks that he is very successful in what he does because
early on in their relationship, she meets him in Monaco and they go to a network.
event and she meets a lot of people that, you know, have worked with him and like him.
And Monaco is extremely expensive and he's paying for everything and they're going out and
doing nice things. So she has no reason early on to believe that he's anything other than
successful at what he does. So she, of course, just thinks, you know, like he said, he's got
assets tied up in something else. This is a quick loan. She's going to lend it to him. And
Everything's going to be good.
But another bomb kind of gets dropped in this series from Oneyika
is that they weren't just engaged to be married.
Like she would have a lot of her followers believed online
because that's all she had kind of publicly posted.
They were actually married.
So that was pretty shocking because, again,
her followers only believe she had been engaged.
They ended up having a courthouse wedding
in the United States and basically didn't tell anyone. So, Onyika is from a very traditional
Nigerian family and they hadn't even met him or anything, this man. His name is Martin.
She does not refer to him by his name throughout the entire TikTok series, but because they had
been a very public couple and shared a lot of TikToks and been on social media together,
you know everybody knows that his name is martin or at least that's what he said his name was
when they were together so so her family did not know she and martin were married um because of their
traditional values um but she wanted to have them get married so that they could start the
immigration process with him so um so they have this courthouse wedding with the intention that they will
someday have this big wedding and everybody will be involved and she'll have a traditional
Nigerian wedding and she'll also have a traditional kind of what they call a white dress
wedding, which is the more Americanized wedding. So that's the plan. But even after they get
married, the money requests don't stop. And not long after they marry, the IRS calls Martin
and says he owes $318,000 in taxes. He also says that his debtor,
owes like millions, which shocking. Again, this is kind of where you would think some alarm bells are
going off, right? Onyika already is under the impression that he's of royal lineage. Why, you know,
if he's in royal lineage, is he needing, you know, help from his wife to loan money and his dad won't
loan him the money? It's all very fishy, but, you know, as an outsider listening to this, this is when I would
say most people's antennas would start to go up, but on Yakas does not.

My new podcast, What Happened in Nashville, tells the story of an IVF clinic's catastrophic collapse
and the patients who banded together in the chaos that followed.
We have some breaking news to tell you about.
Tennessee's attorney general is suing a Nashville doctor.
In April 2024, a fertility clinic in Nashville shut down.
overnight and trapped behind locked doors were more than a thousand frozen embryos.
I was terrified. Out of all of our journey, that was the worst moment ever.
At that point, it didn't occur to me what fight was going to come to follow.
But this story isn't just about a few families' futures. It's about whether the promise of modern
fertility care can be trusted at all. It doesn't matter how much I fight. Doesn't matter how much
cry over all of this. It doesn't matter how much justice we get. None of it's going to get me
pregnant. Listen to what happened in Nashville on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts. Who would you call if the unthinkable happened? I just fell and started
screaming. If you lost someone you loved in the most horrific way. I said through your shot 22 times.
The police, right? But what if the person you're
supposed to go to for help is the one you're the most afraid of.
This dude is the devil. He's a snake. He'll hurt you.
I'm Nikki Richardson, and this is The Girlfriends, Untouchable.
Detective Roger Golubski spent decades intimidating and sexually abusing black women across
Kansas City, using his police badge to scare them into silence.
This is the story of a detective who seemed above the law.
until we came together to take him down.
I told Roger Galoopsky, I said,
you're going to see my face to the day that you die.

Have you ever listened to those true crime shows

And what is this?
How was that not a story we all know?
What's this? Where is that?
Why is it wet?

dumbest criminals. We'll look into
some of the silliest ways folks have broken

And meet some memorable anti-heroes.
There are thousands of angry, horny monkeys.
Clap if you think she's a witch.
And it freaks you out.

How could I not follow him?
Honestly, I got to follow him.
He can see right through me.

There's a lot of chatter at this time about, you know, his assets are being frozen and still
on Yaika loans him money because now at this point he is her husband and she's in love and
very much invested in him and their future. So it's around this time that they go back to Denmark
for the holidays and another bomb gets dropped on Yaka by one of her husband's friends. And it's this friend
who reveals to her that her husband Martin has had a gambling addiction in the past and has had
some enemies that people that he owed a lot of money to. And this is the moment where alarm bells
start to really go off on Yaka. Her friend around this time hires a private investigator. They do
a check on her husband. And this is when they find out that the Olympic athlete claims of royal
lineage, they're a lie. But he has no criminal background. So there is a little bit of relief
there. After this, they kind of get on a good path. Anyika says he starts to go to gambler's
support groups. They start to plan their wedding. Yeah, not going to lie. Planning the wedding
seems like a really strange decision to be making, you know, one when he's not been repaying, like,
money that he owes. He's got assets tied up overseas. So he says his assets are frozen by the IRS.
It would not be the time that I think you start planning your wedding. So yeah, very strange decision.
I still, after watching this multi-series part, don't really understand why she did that other than
I think that maybe she was obviously excited. You know, at this point they had had a very public
engagement. He'd given her a really nice ring. And her family, very traditional Nigerian,
had welcomed him in with open arms and really enjoyed getting to know him at this point. So I think
it was just probably my guess would be a lot of excitement. Every young woman dreams about getting
married. And I'm sure this was no different for her. So I think she was probably just swept up in
this whole fantasy, even though behind the scenes, she knew that there were a lot of
struggles that they were going through. But again, not long into this planning,
Anyaka catches him lying when she sees him looking at gambling sites on his phone.
But, I mean, there's a lot of back and forth about this. Obviously, this is a 25-part series
that I'm condensing. Eventually, in another shocking moment, he is the one.
who calls off the wedding. I think this was pretty crazy. I remember watching this whole series
over the course of a couple of days. And I remember thinking, that's not what I thought was going to
happen. I really thought Anyaka was going to wake up at some moment and be like, I'm better than this.
I deserve better than this. And she was going to leave him. So I was pretty shocked when I got to the
part where he actually leaves her. He calls off the wedding. I mean, he does it because she's
confronting him about money and gambling and these kinds of things, but it was kind of shocking
to know that he actually was the one who leaves her. And Anyaka finally at this point has to
not only tell her friends and family that they're breaking up, but she's also kind of got
a reveal to them that they were already married. So this is now more complicated. And she's
obviously very scared that her, you know, traditional family is going to be very upset.
with her, but, you know, they are there for her. They're supportive and they help her get through
this. But, you know, there's another shocking twist, of course, in this story. And it's when she starts
to tell her friends and family that, you know, they are breaking up. They were actually married. He
has a gambling problem. That's when she finds out that he'd not only been taking and swindling money
from her throughout their entire relationship, he'd actually been going behind her back
and taking and swindling money under false pretenses from her friends and family.
Even from her parents, from her, you know, sister is really, really bad.
And this was very sad to watch this portion of the story.
On Jacob breaks down.
She's extremely sad even retelling this.
She feels an immense amount of guilt for bringing this.
man into their lives. And of course, um, these friends and family will never get their money back.
Um, so that is extremely sad. He often lied to them and in onyika's words would say things like,
you know, I want to buy onyika this purse, um, for her birthday. It's a surprise. Don't tell her,
but my money is tied up overseas and my properties. Can you loan me the money so I can get it?
At one point he was saying he was going to buy her.
her a sports car of some sense and like to not tell her he said he was going to be buying property
like land for them a way for them to start their married life so not to tell her and you know
all of her friends and family believed him at face value and did not tell her what was happening
behind her back eventually uh through this onyika finds support and you know does move forward
with the divorce proceedings. Their divorce was finalized in November of 2025, which is why she
decided to start her TikTok series. And in another shocking twist, since she has shared her story
and it's gone viral, she has found that her ex was in Tulum and he was still swindling women
as recent as the week before her story went viral. So this story is definitely a shocking story.
And I suggest if you have time this holiday season, go back, watch the 25 parts to get a real full grasp of how much money, how much lying was going on.
It will definitely keep you hooked for a good amount of time.
But that is why the Danish deception comes in as our number three most shocking moment of 2025.
