Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. I do part two. It's your celebrity mentors, Susan Knowles and Happy Schwartz. From The Golden Bachelor in our podcast, Bachelor, Happy Hour's Golden Hour. And we have a lot to cover in today's news. We're talking divorce trends, splits, and so much more in Chapter 2.
Starting point is 00:00:44 You ready to get into this, Kathy? We've got to get into it, and we have got to start. Have you heard about this? new trend with divorce rings, how women are celebrating their breakups. I can't, Susan, I mean, they're repurposing engagement rings. They're doing parties, tattoos, wild home renovations. Like, what just happened to simple divorce? I don't know. What do you think about it? British Vogue is all about it. It's written up in there, so it is a thing. I mean, we all know Vogue says it must be true, right?
Starting point is 00:01:20 So here's what I'm hearing about it. They're putting it a ring on their fingers. Sometimes it's made a metal. Sometimes they're, you know, repurposing their engagement ring. Remember they talked about conscious uncoupling?
Starting point is 00:01:35 Yes. Well, now we're doing like conscious unhitching with jewelry. I mean, I don't know. You know what? We all celebrate when we get married and we get a wedding ring. and why be miserable at your divorce?
Starting point is 00:01:50 Let's celebrate it and put a sign on there that I'm divorced. Sometimes I think they even tattoo. Well, here's the thing. I think a lot of women are, you know, they're having parties. They're bringing their divorce attorneys. They all get together. I think it's a new way of building community for the divorce women that are, frankly, a larger and larger part of our community.
Starting point is 00:02:17 I don't know. I'm not sure that we'll talk about my ring in a minute, but go ahead. What were you going to say? The girl and gone girl, that model. Emily Radicalckelska. She celebrated her divorce from Sebastian Bear McClare with not one, but two rings that incorporated the diamonds from her engagement ring. So this is like a new sport.
Starting point is 00:02:44 I mean, no, Susan, this is called new recycling. Why sell a diamond ring for a quarter of its value? Why not just have a new ring made? But I got to tell you, so in Vogue, they go on to talk about a jewelers are making these rings. Like, it is a sales thing now. Bind a ring, wearing it proudly, a lavish, I don't know, a divorce ring. You wear it on the same finger? Or I'd probably wear it on my middle finger because I wouldn't want somebody else to think I'm not taken.
Starting point is 00:03:19 So I don't know. It's a whole new thing for social media. Flash your ice, your new ice on social media. But here's what I want to know. If I'm going to wear one, and I'm surprised you wouldn't say this. Do you know what finger I'd wear it on? And I think a lot of women are doing this. The middle finger.
Starting point is 00:03:37 The middle one. Because it sends a message in so many ways. I don't know. I don't know what I think about. Did you hear there's divorce cakes, divorce party games? I mean, pin the tail on the X, anyone? I don't, what do you think about it, though? Like, I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:04:00 So, you know, I'm a widow. You're divorced. What did you do with your diamond ring? Actually, my kids benefit from it because the center son, my first son, was getting engaged, and he couldn't afford what he wanted. So I gave him that. At first, my daughter had it, and then that didn't work out, and I had it set in a,
Starting point is 00:04:22 Christopher had it set in a ring for Jessica, my daughter-in-law. Oh, that's weird. Well, how about you? Well, yours wasn't a divorce, obviously. My husband died. I, it's funny, I wear my diamond ring on my right hand, but you know what I've noticed? men aren't so smart they can't tell right. And I'm like, Jane is witch.
Starting point is 00:04:44 They're like, oh, she's married. So I've stopped wearing it. If I go out, I just wear like nothing. Why do you put it on a necklace or have a bracelet made or something? I don't know, because I'm, you know what I'm going to do with that? I'm going to give it to my granddaughter. Okay, well, see that. Eventually.
Starting point is 00:05:00 But wait, we're not just, so it's not just rings that people are doing. There's paintings, like doing their own mural. Apparently, Jessica Alba did one after filing for divorce from her husband Cash Warren. Like, I'd want to burn it. First of all, that one broke my heart. I love them together. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban and Jennifer Aniston and Ruth Reiths Witherspoon are said to be throwing a big one for her after her split. Okay, but here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Here's the thing. When the celebration's over, let's go here, Susan, we got our divorce rings, we got our tattoos, we've had our parties, we've had a mural, we've got a tattoo that some of them are doing that says life is transformation is life. Like, okay, once we've done all this and, you know, we've, we hate the man, we've made it in all of our social media, we're done, when do we come back around to? not him, but maybe I want to get married again. I mean, if I were a guy, I'd be like, I'm not touch her with a 10-foot ball. She's going to have me on a billboard somewhere. And also, Kathy, this is saying that both parties wanted the divorce to have a celebration like this. That means both, sometimes that does happen.
Starting point is 00:06:25 They agree. They're not meant to be, and they go to separate ways. That I can understand a party in like this. But when one person's sad over it, I don't. I don't think husband and wives are having these parties, are having this party together. I think Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman, these women are having these parties.
Starting point is 00:06:44 I do not think the X or Y chromosome, whichever one men are, that men are. I think they're X. They're not invited. But I'm just saying it's a lot. I mean, it is a lot. Didn't Rachel Zowe from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Just do this?
Starting point is 00:07:05 Yeah, she was married over 20 years. You know what it says to me? Honestly, it's like I'd rather, I mean, this is a big public statement about divorce. I hate you. I'm going to have a party. I'm going to tattoo how much I hate you. Then I'm going to burn something, an effigy of you. I don't think of divorce like that.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Like for me, for instance, we're really good friends. We do things together still with our grandkids and also not everybody is the I hate. Ours was more like we can't. Yeah, we are also, with all due respect, you're not Nicole Kidman, you're not, Jennifer, you're not in, you know, they have children, they have, I heard the funniest thing the other day about Nicole Kidman's divorce from Keith Urban. Yeah. He's, you know, I, let me just say publicly, I don't think I'd want to do it.
Starting point is 00:07:59 I get it, they're public, but we got to move on to the next one. Okay, Summer House split. You ready? Yep. I old Cook and Amanda Batchela announced their separation after four years of marriage. They're going to go their separate ways. They post it to their Instagram stories on Monday, January 19th. What they say, we have mutually and amicably decided to part ways as a couple.
Starting point is 00:08:27 We share this heavy heart and kindly ask for your grace and support. while we focus on our personal growth and healing. And it feels ironic for them to ask for privacy when their whole marriage was public, right? Yeah, but they say, they said it feels ironic to ask for privacy during this time since we've always tried to be open and honest about our relationship.
Starting point is 00:08:53 But your kindness and respect will go a long way as we try to navigate our chapter. And the statement concluded with them signing, a man and Kyle. He's 43. She's 34. They got engaged in 18, tied the knot in 21. It was actually postponed due to COVID, and it was right here in Jersey, you know.
Starting point is 00:09:15 And throughout their relationship, which was documented on Summerhouse, the pair has been open about their struggles. Sweet. In season three of the Bravo series, which aired in March of 2019, Cook confessed to cheating on her, claiming the blackout during the guy's trip and woke up with a girl in his bed. And recent rumors that they had split began to swirl when Bachelor claimed that Cook spent the night at a fan's apartment in the trailer for season 10 of Summerhouse. Come on. I mean, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Kyle's not to sleep in some fans of. apartment and came home at like 6.30 in the morning. I mean, seriously? So, so Amanda, you know, she's told Clara Miller and Lindsay Hubbard that expressing their disapproval. That's like saying the sun rises in the east. I mean, but here's the thing. They're young. Cook's 43, she's 34. They're young. It's public. It shouldn't be public. And while everything else was public, so why shouldn't that be public? Well, that's what's humorous about them asking now for privacy. My advice to them, do it.
Starting point is 00:10:38 And I said, move on. 34 years old, you've got a whole life ahead of you, right? My advice is get out of the limelight any way you can. Do not take out a billboard. Do not burn an effigy. Do not. Is she going to get a divorce ring? I would know she's going to join Jennifer Anson and the rest of the crew
Starting point is 00:10:58 and have a big party. I got to say, though, Susan, it's got to be difficult for these Hollywood people to, you know, do you want it publicly known that your husband, recent ex, wakes up with a fan? I mean, really, do you want, I don't want to know that. All right. Now we're going to move on to P.K. Kemsley. He's made a bold statement on his life amid divorce. Paul, P.K. Kemsley is sharing a new look at his life today amid his divorce from the real housewives of Beverly Hills cast member, Doreet Kemsley. P.K. has been so incredibly busy with his life and job as Boy George's talent manager. The UK native has taken to Instagram, who hasn't, over the past few months where he revealed several new looks at his life, including that he has been gearing up for Boy, George's U.S. tour, which, by the way, begins in fair
Starting point is 00:11:56 February, hanging out with some old friends, comparing the two children that he shares with Doreet, and ringing in the New Year with his dad, Kenny Counseling. But P.K. is ready for a break from his busy lifestyle. So the entrepreneur took to his Instagram story on January 15th, where he posted a photo of himself, sitting against a bar looking directly into the camera with his salt and pepper, colored hair into a neat quaff. Dear life, he says, I've had enough of the bull, blankety blank. He wrote over the photo, can we take a break, please? Dorit and Pekey are still married as their divorce has not yet been finalized. The mom of two appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on January 15th,
Starting point is 00:12:48 where she revealed to host Andy Cohen that things are still rough between her and her estranged husband. You don't know how much I would love to be sitting here. You asking me that question and say, yes, Sandy, things are so much better. This is coming from Doree. But she admitted that was not the case. No, she added shaking her head from side to side. I don't know, Susan. You got to respect her for not just going off. You know, she's keeping it low key. She's not going to announce it with Andy on TV. Like, you got to respect that. Yeah, but here, I mean, listen, public divorce is public divorce. But, you know, she's not being all that above board either.
Starting point is 00:13:33 I believe she told him or called him an alcoholic, which, you know, he may or may not be. Here's the thing, when you're in the public eye, when you're on a public television show, meaning, you know, Beverly Housewives. Yes. Housewives are Beverly Hills. If you're in the public eye, I'm sorry, I think it's asking a lot to your fans who have put you where you are to say, you know what, leave us alone, don't make any comments, we want our privacy, yet can't have it both ways. That's what I think.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Well, you think it's okay for him to look in the camera and say, dear, like, I've had enough of this bullshit, please. And she's just like, no. Well, and here's my thing. He might have had enough of it. Does he want the paychecks to keep coming? I'm guessing he did. Okay, the next one, Susan, wait, I'm tortured by the next one because I love this guy. Like, I envision myself meeting this guy in a Starbucks, and he's going to sit. Dermit Mulroney, you having him saying, me, you are the girl that I've wanted my whole life, dancing with him at the wedding.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Like, this is my man. One of my favorite shows movies, right? Dermott settles divorce from Prima outside of court. You know, he's 62. Perfect for me. And he was his own lawyer. filed a declaration for an uncontested dissolution of the marriage on Friday, January 16th. According to documents obtained by people, the filing reveals that the couple reached a settlement
Starting point is 00:15:05 through meditation outside of court. It's through mediation. Oh, mediation, I bet you're for me. I thought they were meditating. Well, he probably needs to. I'm saying, first of all, after they meditated and mediated, good for them that they got it done outside of court, right? Good for them. But all I want to know is where is he now? Stop, stop. Wait. He also is representing himself. I know.
Starting point is 00:15:35 That it addresses payment of attorney fees, spousal and child support as well as custody and visitation matters regarding their two daughters. Unbelievable. Like I think that's kind of smart. Mabel Ray, 17, and Sally June is 15. Once a judge signs off, the divorce will be finalized. Okay, but here's the thing. It doesn't happen very often. He filed in June of 2025. So six months ago, after 15 years of marriage citing what most people do,
Starting point is 00:16:10 irreconcilable differences, and listing the data separation as TBD, to be determined. In the initial filing, he asked that, that he and his soon to be ex-wife split attorney's fees and that they share joint physical and legal custody of their minor children. Susan, I have not been divorced, but this is pretty standard. This is pretty standard legalese. You know, we're going to have joint custody, blah, blah, blah. It's easy. Nobody is asking for anything. Not one is denying anything. They're not arguing over the children or the money. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:48 They use mediators, not lawyers, as they are friends. I love this. Okay. It is amicable. Can I just say to you, you know how long they're going to stay friends? They're going to stay friends until one of them meets somebody else. No, no, no, no. It does happen, Kathy.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Well, listen, can I just tell you, when I meet him at Starbucks in L.A., I don't care if he's got 20 children. He is going to be mine. I mean, I hate to say it was happier he got divorced, but I, this guy, ever since my best friend's wedding, I was like, where is he? Where is he? And lucky Julia Roberts. That's a million-dollar smile. Yeah, well, I got one of those, too.
Starting point is 00:17:33 He's not going to be able to resist me. Melissa Gilbert cries for it. As her husband, Timothy, is released from jail while facing child sex abuse charges. Okay. So after a two-hour pre-trial detention hearing in New Mexico District Court on Tuesday, January 21, a judge ruled that the actor, 68 years old, will be released with conditions while he awaits trial as he faces charges a child sex abuse. Okay. All right. Given the lack, and this is what the judge said, given the lack of a pattern involving children in this case, I think that can be remedied through different conditions of release.
Starting point is 00:18:28 He said this in part while delivering his decision, quote, I don't find that there's been sufficient presentation that this defendant may commit new crimes if released pending trial. There's no evidence of a pattern of criminal conduct. There are no similar allegations involving children in this past. There's no evidence of noncompliance with prior court orders. Rather, this defendant self-surrendered and submitted himself to the court's jurisdiction demonstrating compliance with the court order for his arrest.
Starting point is 00:19:01 The judge continued. I cannot find that the state is proven by clear and convincing evidence that there are no release conditions that would reasonably protect the safety of any younger person in the community. Let me just say to you, this is a lot of legalese, legal jargon saying there almost doesn't sound like there is enough information to bring a court case against him. But what brought him there? Like, you got to think about that. What brought him there were two kids said years ago that he molested them. But apparently they were fired on set for behavior cause. I don't know why they were fired. And, you know,
Starting point is 00:19:40 now how many years later, we're going to take it to court. After being released on his own recognizance, Busfield has been ordered to appear for all his future court dates and is not allowed to possess any firearms or dangerous weapons consume any alcohol or illegal drugs, have contact with the alleged victims or their families discuss the case with any witnesses or have unsupervised contact with any minor children. The judge is allowing Busfield to travel, but he will be under the supervision of pretrial services in New Mexico and must notify the court of his address. upon hearing the news, Busfield's wife, Melissa Gilbert, was seeing crying and whispering, thank you, God. It gives me the chills, Susan.
Starting point is 00:20:23 That sounds like she was being supportive. She was. She wrote a letter to the judge. Gilbert supported her husband from the courtroom, along with her 89-year-old mom, Barbara Cowan, and her son, Michael, and Busfield civil lawyer, Larry Steen. Busfield's brother, Buck Busfield, was also in attendance at the hearing. Gilbert previously voiced her support. I just said this. for her husband in a letter to the judge in this case, in the defendant's response in opposition to the state's motion for pretrial detention, filed on January 16th, Gilbert was one of 75.
Starting point is 00:20:58 I want you hear that, 75 people who wrote letters of support. She called Busfield, my love, my rock, my partner in business and life, adding that she knows him better and more intimately than anything in his life ever has. I'm trying to tow a line between logic and all the feelings swirling around me. I began this letter with logic, but now the feelings have taken over. I can't help it, she wrote. I only want this extraordinary man safe and whole. So I will close by asking you to please, please take care of my sweet husband.
Starting point is 00:21:31 As he is my protector, I am his, but I cannot protect her now. And I think that, more than anything else, is what is truly breaking my heart. I am relying on you to protect him for me. And he first appeared, I know, it's amazing. He first appeared in front of a judge on Wednesday, January 14th, after he was officially charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct of a minor. That's a child under 13. And one count of child abuse on January 13th, according to prosecutors.
Starting point is 00:22:02 Okay, here's what I got to say, and then I want to hear your opinion. First of all, the fact that 75 people came to him, he turned himself. in, you know, there was a warrant for his arrest. He drove to turn himself in, 75 letters from, we're not talking the mailman and the guy that works at the grocery store. These are 75 people out of Hollywood who are putting their names on the line to protect this guy, to stand up for him. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:22:29 I think it's amazing myself. What do you think? I think it's outstanding that people actually believe in him and believe him. Like, this could have been a case of people looking for money. They're going to say he did something that he didn't. That's the problem here. So many, I could never be a judge. I think I've said this to you before.
Starting point is 00:22:47 So many people, you're innocent until proven guilty, but not really. Based on what the judge says, there's no grants. But anyone that gets a sexual abuse charge to a minor, to a child, it's an automatic, I hate you go to jail, right? They don't even give them the bet. That's why 75 different people started. up for him and smack me. I mean, well, Susan, everyone's innocent to proven guilty. Yes, someone brings a charge. They have to investigate it. But frankly, for me, based on what the judge has
Starting point is 00:23:20 said, he said he's got no history of this. He has no history to that. Like, where is this coming from? I personally hope he gets off. I don't think it's true. For her to write that letter and her emotional part taking over pleading with this judge, some people, like even at like a death of a child, not comparing to this, but some marriages get even closer together where other marriages, it's like a big knife right down the middle. How do you feel this one's going? I think her support is going to make him love her even more. Well, you know that I hang around with a lot of people in Hollywood and I, and so I know the ins and outs of this. That's a joke. I, but I think the fact that she wrote a letter to the, I think the fact that he turned himself in and said, this is preposterous.
Starting point is 00:24:08 and very calmly. I think the fact that she, from the very beginning, there hasn't been one iota from her of questioning him, not one. She defends him, care for the man who's cared for me. That'll make her marriage even stronger. I think they have, they've been married, like, I don't know, close to 13 years, maybe 14. I think they have a very close marriage. They both were married before.
Starting point is 00:24:34 They know what it takes to make a strong marriage. I personally think this is going to bring them closer together. I think she's going to fight tooth and nail for his freedom. And you know what? They have the money. God forbid it was you, okay, and somebody planted that seed. You have to question that. I know you love your husband and I know you think he's absolutely not guilty.
Starting point is 00:24:57 But there's got to be one moment of, oh, my God, could he have or no way. You know what I'm saying? Well, I think it's, yeah, no, I think it's. human nature to maybe say, wait, to maybe say, for a fraction of a second, Susan, I might say, what? And they're absolutely not. Or have a conversation with him. You know, no, no, I wouldn't, I wouldn't. For me, it would probably just blurt out of my mouth, even though I would. Not you. Yeah. Oh my God, you did not do anything like this, did you? Yeah, I can hear you doing that. What I'm trying to say is I can't imagine.
Starting point is 00:25:37 imagine being married to someone, and I know you can't either, where that would be the case. And remember, we don't know there is more to this story than what we know. So given that, I'm guessing, there is more to the story of these kids that we're never going to know unless it gets to court, and then we're going to hear all kinds of things. And it depends on how big it is in court and how loud it gets, whether it affects the marriage or not too. Certain things are said and questions that are asked. Sometimes you, you, just take a step back and go, what the actual, you know. Okay, let's take a bet now.
Starting point is 00:26:12 I don't think, I think their marriage is going to be as strong, if not stronger. What do you think? That's what I'm hoping for, yes. Okay. We're going to keep watching this. I just, I really don't think so. I hate to say it, but I feel, I don't know how much older these kids are now, but you said it earlier.
Starting point is 00:26:30 I think sometimes people say something happened, you know, 18 years, ago and now he's got some money, I'm going to go after it. You know, so I don't know. I think he's innocent. Let's pray that the judge thinks so. And it sounds by the way the judge is saying, look, you're not doing any harm or. I'm going to go when all else fails. It's their third marriage and the third time is the charm.
Starting point is 00:27:02 Yeah, we'll say, stick with that. And that's your good luck charm. Really? Oh, man. All right, let's get into Shannon and God rest of the soul. Doherty. Ex-husband Kurt is challenging. He challenges the divorce settlement two years after her death. He said he's filed legal documents which people obtained in Los Angeles,
Starting point is 00:27:38 Superior Court on January 14th, nearly two months after her estate said he had. has failed to fulfill several monetary obligations and provisions of the settlement, that the alleged that the divorce settlement, which was signed by her by Shannon on July 12th, 2004, and Kurt on the following day and was finalized just before her death on July 13th that year, was brought in the wrong court, Kathy. Because of this, he claimed the court has no jurisdiction to enforce the terms of the agreement. Okay, wait, before we continue, before we continue, let me just see to you, you know, the U.S. law is very particular, and people win on technicalities all the time.
Starting point is 00:28:37 That's what he's trying to do right here. Well, you know, okay, keep going here. Well, let me give you some more. He further argued that the divorce case should have been put to an end when Doherty died after years-long battle with cancer. And the settlement shouldn't have even been filed per the legal documents. This comes after Doherty's attorneys and Christopher Cortazo, trustee of the Shannon Doherty Family Trust, claimed in a filing on November 24th that Isrienko still owes money as part of the divorce settlement. Holy smokes. This included a provision for him to sell Dordy's 1.5 million Texas home and equally divide the net proceeds with her estate. However, the filing stated that he has refused to list the dripping springs home for sale. You understand, I live 20 minutes from this home. I'm going to go check it out and see if I can get it. Okay, the filing also claimed that a photographer was to buy out Dordy's share of a Mooney M20 airport. for $100,000 and pay that sum to her estate within five business days of the sale.
Starting point is 00:29:45 However, he allegedly unilaterally withheld $50,274 from Dorety's estate after making the sale in August of 2024 and as yet to pay the sum. And in addition, her attorneys noted that he has also refused to return. Dorety's items of personal property, including photographs of her, which was another provision of the divorce settlement. Why could make any photos of her? Keep going. I don't get that part.
Starting point is 00:30:22 I got thoughts. Keep going. Okay. He contended in his January 14 filing that Cortezat, no, I can't say it. Cortazzo. Cortago failed to show he has authority under. the trust to have even introduced the motion in the first place. Doherty filed for divorce in 2003 after 11 years of marriage.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Unbelievable. Her representation, Leslie Sloan, told people in a statement at the time, divorce is the last thing Shannon wanted. Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option. Okay. I wouldn't think he's trying to do. Can I just say to you, you know who wins in these cases? Not the estate of the deceased and not our ex-husband, the lawyers.
Starting point is 00:31:21 That's who wins. They're going to argue point after poor, legality over legality. And anyone, you know, is he supposed to send the money? Is the divorce supposed to happen? Let me interrupt for one second. So she passes before they sell the $1.5 million home in Texas. If we divide the proceeds with her estate, okay, she passed. So her estate gets half and he gets half?
Starting point is 00:31:54 Is that what this is the same? I mean, last time I checked my legal decree from the law school I attended in Texas, I don't know. If you go way back up to where this whole story began. He refused to list it. He's contending it was filed in the wrong court and the court has no jurisdiction to enforce the terms of the agreement. So, you know, whether or not, I think it's all going to be rewound to whether the court has jurisdiction. And if they don't have jurisdiction and if they, she died inadvertently, you know, she died before everything was finalized and then and then filed in the wrong court, by the letter of the law, he may inherit everything.
Starting point is 00:32:35 You know, it's, it may just, on a technicality. Listen, where I live, a guy just won a quarter of a million dollars on, in RHOA, on a technicality.
