And I'm not making this about me, but it truly is like that's why I'm excited. Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelorette, and Almost Famous. So we are recapping Dancing with the Stars on Almost Famous. And I get to do it with Diana from The Bachelorette.

How fun is this? I mean, I am like, we've been friends for years and we've never really gotten to do maybe one or two things creative together. And then we get to do this, like my favorite things, television podcasting and my friends. Totally. I am so happy right now. I know. I love it.

Podcasting is definitely one of my favorite things as well. And to get to do it with you is just icing on the cake. Oh, look at us. And the fact that it's dancing with the stars. Like I did it for special forces, and I know you've done a couple too. And I just, I love being able to have a reason to watch the show in real time because usually I will put it off, like save it in, you know, whatever the recording box on my DVR is. Trista, you do not still have a DVR.

No, I don't. I'm sorry, I don't even know the terminology. Like DirecTV, what's it called on DirecTV? You know what I mean? So anyway, I love getting the opportunity to review it the next day. And we have talked about this. We haven't done it yet. But we're going to come up with a friendly little wager.

You are way more. I'm like, as soon as our producer, Heather, sent that over my palms started sweating because I think that I am relatively competitive in just like a fun way, but I don't like to bet and I don't like to lose money. And I know that you are. super competitive. And like, here's the difference between the two of us. I actually don't watch dancing with the stars. So this is going to be like my first season. I'm a newbie. So you're going to have to take it easy. It's your first season watching? I have watched things. Wait, you didn't watch

my season? No, I'm just kidding. I was still in elementary school. I'm just kidding. I love you so much. But I have seen clips of the show, like a lot of what I do, because I, whatever, you're a mom. You get it. I have little to no free time whatsoever. So I hardly ever will sit down and binge a television show. Yeah. So I get most of my clips from like Instagram. So I will see stuff on social media about dancing with the stars and who's on it, you know, stuff like that. But to say I have never, never sat down and watched an entire season of Dancing with the Stars, not ever. Okay. Well, I love that you're doing it for this because it's going to be a really good, season. Being from Dancing with the Stars from the first season, I mean, there are seasons. The

Bachelorette and The Bachelor, I have watched every single episode of every single show. For Dancing with the Stars, I've watched most, but there were definitely some seasons in the middle that I was like, I just, especially when the kids were little, that I'm like, I just can't sit down for an hour, two hours a night, a week, whatever, and get all of this in. But now, as an almost empty nester, I am like all in and the fact that we have the podcast and the impetus to like actually sit down and watch it so that we know what we're talking about the next day. Okay, well, so maybe since you are the veteran of all veterans, I bow down now to you. Oh, no, no.

Maybe our wager needs to be something friendly since I'm the newbie and I'm just like dipping my toes in. Like maybe it needs to be like a basket of cookies or like a doucheer. dinner out. Yes, I love the dinner out. Your words of wisdom. The care package is so cute. I mean, what about that? That's a really cute idea. Listen, we don't have to decide right now. Let's talk about that in a little bit or another episode. Maybe we text tonight about ideas about what to do and then we'll announce them tomorrow on our recap episode tomorrow night, or tomorrow during the day. But I am just so excited that you're a newbie because I think you have you're bringing a new perspective to the show. And I think a lot of

people are in your same boat. I think there's a whole new um, viewership for this show because they've brought it to social media. Like in the past couple years, I'm sure you have seen the TikToks, the, the Instagram reels from people from dancing with the stars. They have elevated it so much. Like, I love all that they are doing with social media. They bring so much original content. It's way more interactive. It is. I think we all know coming off of The Bachelor and the Bachelorette. We all wanted our turn at Dancing with the Stars.

And I know that you were on it, Trista. And there was a time where they were looking at me and I was told I couldn't do it. Right. So I have so many mixed feelings. And I really wanted to do it. So that is what I do love about the show now is it feels very interactive. very much a part of like this show. And when you're voting, they're not just like asking you to play a part. They're asking you to be a part of. Yeah. Yeah, totally. No, I agree. And honestly, you brought up a good point.

Like the fact that they're bringing people, it used to be like the most recent person from the Bachelor or the Bachelor. You know, and now Tyler Cameron's on it. Okay, I have to. Before I forget, before I forget, I have to tell you something about myself. And let's all just like, I'll have you know I have never uttered this out loud to another human being. Okay. Like a dirty old woman. I let me preface by saying, Trista, I don't know Tyler Cameron. I have never met him. I did not watch him on the show.

I don't even follow him on social media. Sometimes his stuff will pop into my feed and I'm like, oh, there's that cutie patootie. Do not know this man at all. And I have had multiple dreams about Tyler Cameron. I do not even know this person. I don't even know him. But I have dreams like multiple, Trista, like four or five dreams. I'm such a weirdo.

I have never told anyone, but I have dreamed about him four or five times and that like we are together. Like we are in a relationship. He's my boyfriend. Sometimes it's hot and heavy. And sometimes we're just like living. living happily ever after. What does that say about me?

I don't know. We need to have like someone who knows what happens in dreams. Like can, you know, what's the word? Like not a psychic, but somebody who can tell a lot of this. Oh yeah. Like dream dictionary. I believe in all of this stuff. Exactly. It is my intuition telling me that I'm still fucking delusional. Anyway, he's so cute.

You are not delusional. I'm so glad that they brought him back. He has done a lot of stuff recently. So I am at least excited. to have, you know, someone close to my heart that I could cheer on during this season. I totally agree. Okay, so if people are listening and their recent viewers of Dancing with the Stars, like Deanna, I was on the first season of Dancing with the Stars.

And I'm saying this now because I want you all to know my perspective is that we didn't have a budget. Like, we didn't rehearse a lot. there's only so much I understand about this show for my personal experience. A lot of what my opinion will be about is as a viewer. So don't think that I'm coming on here as some freaking expert, because I'm not. I was the very first person that was ever booted from the show, if that tells you anything. So I love being part of the family and talking about this show because it does have a special place in my heart. But please, let's be honest, I was only there for like two weeks. So it still counts in my book, Trista.

In my book, you are still really cool. Okay, thanks. Okay, so we're going to get to the recap. Last night was the premiere of season 35 of Dancing with the Stars. And because they have such a big show, they broke it down into the guys performing this first night, last night, on Tuesdays. It'll be on Tuesdays. And then tonight the women will be competing. and we'll be recapping that tomorrow.

Every week will not be double episodes. It was just this first week. Oh, Fue. Trista, I was afraid I was going to be losing out on my precious sleep. Well, but I have to say they'll probably make it two hours. So don't think that you're going to be getting any sleep back. Sorry. May I ask you a kind of a newbie question here?

Yeah. Yeah. Do they typically do this, break up the men and the women? No. No. I don't think they've ever done this in Dancing with the Stars. history, no matter how many celebs are on the first night, they usually just have it be an extended episode. So the fact that they're breaking it up also is an indication to me that it is so

popular because they didn't just have, as you'll notice, they didn't just have the guys performing. They had the Julianne Huff did her Paris baguette dance. know they had that dance. They had the opening number. They had the interviews with the women who weren't competing that night. And you'll see as we get on with the more episodes every week, it usually is just the performances. And sometimes they'll throw in like the troop and they'll throw in like maybe a fun little number. Okay, I'm really glad that you have said that because as, you know, your token newbie here,

I was a little with the group dances. I was like, okay, this feels like excess fluff that I don't necessarily. necessarily need. Oh, yeah. And then I also, listen, I kind of am the type of person where I like for everyone to have their role and stick to that role, but like, I'm not saying that's right. I have my own issues. But when Julian Huff did the quick change and did the French baguette dance situation that she helped to choreograph, that was a miss for me, Trista. It was. Okay. See, I love Julie. I think that Derek and Julianne and their whole family, for that matter, are so talented.

I have always, since Derek joined the show and Julianne, too, I just love them. As a dancer, I love seeing these numbers because they are so creative and so good, but I get that. I think that I don't know that you're alone in that because we know now that it was, you know, a collab, essentially. It's like how the Bachelorette does, like how we film that commercial. Right. Right. Exactly. Exactly. So I don't want to dismiss because you are talking to someone who is not a dancer. I can stay on rhythm. And I, you know, really good at that side to side, Trista. I can drop it like it's hot. But I would not say that I have technicality by any means. So for me to judge Julianne Huff is really the dumbest thing that we're talking about today. So I am with you. I believe. that them, their whole family, the incredible amount of talent that they have is just, it's on another level. I think just for me, I like to stick to the basics of the show and what that is is it's the celebrities competing. Even some of the other like pros when they do those group

dances, they're cool. You know what I mean? I'm just, you know, I don't know. Well, I think that's what I'm saying is I think that because the show is so popular, they wanted to give the troop, give Julianne, give, you know, these numbers to the people who are watching because let's be honest, these days, I feel like the pros have even a bigger following than the celebs a lot of times, you know, I feel like if we compared the viewership or the follower count for all of the pros compared to all the celebs right now, I would really be interested to see who had more followers. You know what I mean? Because these pros are so, so popular. Right. And I guess the other piece, Trista, is that there are probably a lot of people who

have been invested in Dancing with the Stars from the very beginning. I am not that person. So again, I'm just, I'm just throwing some curveballs here for you. No, I totally, I, I totally hear what you're saying. And I think there's something to be said for that. But I think it won't even be a topic of conversation moving forward after tonight's episode, because I think they're probably going to just have the people perform. You know what I mean? They'll have the background right before they go on stage. They have like a little background video and they'll have like the opening number and maybe the troop do one or two things. But that will most likely be the format of the show moving forward. Okay. Cool. We won't have to worry about it. Okay. Great. So we started the show

with Jackson and Emma. Jackson is from Savannah Bananas. Do you know what Savannah Bananas is? Trista, I am your good Southern friend and I love baseball. It is on my bucket list to see a baseball game in every state in the United States. Oh, stop. I really want to see all the stadiums. But it is also on my list. I really want to go to a bananas baseball game. Like I love these guys.

Love them. Like the immense amount of skill that they have to have to be, you know, influencers dancing, singing, and also be good at a. sport that the it's love him and i do want to back up so for this episode and every episode they will have a theme so like they'll have the disney theme they'll have a Halloween theme they'll have whatever whatever the themes are for that season but for tonight or last night's episode the theme was the billboard number one hit from the year of your birth i love it actually i don't know that they followed the billboard number one i think they followed like whatever from the year of their birth that they

that the celeb wanted to choose. That's kind of the vibe that I got. Yeah. Okay. So each person chose a song from the year of your birth. And let me give you a little background on this. Maybe it has changed since first season. But it's not like you can be like, oh, I want to do the song that Ryan wrote for me,

something about her. Like, I want to do that on the show. No. You have like a list of songs that you are. pick from? Able to do. Yep, that you get to pick from. And usually your pro picks the song.

So I wonder, because I think in terms of timing, the pro needs the song first so that they can start choreographing. Oh, that makes sense. Well, I'm really glad that Wump, there it is, was on the list. You know, what you guys don't know is that Trista and I were talking last night about how we cannot remember anything at our age. We're not even old, Trista, but we cannot remember. remember anything. But for the love of God, we can remember every single word to the songs of like

the early 80s and 90s. I can remember everything. But I cannot remember what I had for breakfast this morning. That's ridiculous. Sam. No, I know. I'm sure people have seen those Instagram reels where, you know, like a mom is driving her kids to school and she's, you know, rapping whatever, you know, rappers delight or whatever. Love it. Coolio. Oh my God. Oh my, I did tell. Krista last night that I got to fly someone who's like really, really cool. And I, in my head, I was singing the song the entire time. Ring ding, ding, ding, ding. Oh, I digress. Anyway, if I were on Dancing with the Stars, Trista, my song would have been Betty Davis Eyes. Ooh. She's got Betty Davis eyes. Oh, okay. I know. Could you just imagine me out there swirling and twirling and

dipping and all of the things with Tyler Cameron. I mean, who would be your pro? Who would you choose to have be your pro? Tyler Cameron. No, no, no. You're pro. I know. He's not a pro. I know. I'm just telling you about my apparent obsession with Tyler Cameron. I don't know. So tonight, you're telling everybody you're going to be having a dream about Tyler Cameron and you to Betty Davis. Oh my God. I understood. We get we get it. This is, I can't. Tell me what your song would be Trista. So if we're following the theme of the number one hit from the year of my birth, it's Roberta Flax the first time ever I saw your face. Do you know that? Oh, yeah. Okay, but now if you got to selfishly choose, what would your song be? Oh, Lord. I mean,

1972, what the heck was the song back then? I would, you know, it's funny when we were texting last night, I did say the gambler. I wonder when the gambler was out. No, he, that was later. That had to have been later. I think I was in elementary school then. I don't, God, I don't know. I don't know. Is it? Would it be like disco? Like Greece? It would totally be disco. It would be like the Greece. Ramamma ding dong? Yes, Trista. You could be like the cha-cha or not the cha-cha, but the one where they do the little kicks. Somebody was doing it last night. I know every word of every Greece song. So, yeah. Okay. All right. So that's very fitting for you. Oh my gosh. And yes. I could. either wear like be at the you know the the soda shop the ice cream shop wearing the big poofy

poodle I absolutely picture you like that like in my mind I believe you and Ryan dressed up like that for Halloween one year I actually so they had a dancing with the stars you know I'm sure you've heard of people doing dancing with the stars locally like as a fundraiser and in Vail they had a fundraiser dancing with the stars and I did a dance and I did wear a big pink a pink dress, of course, with big white, big white pocadots, and I did a jive. So it was super fun. Yes, you did a jive. See? Taylor Swift. I will describe it in layman's terms and you will correct me where need be. You know, one year my ex-husband and I dressed up as Danny and Sandy, too, but like when they were in the leather outfits and I wore a blonde wig, that was like my blonde era. I thought,

First up was Jackson and Emma, and I know that you just said that you love Savannah Bananas and you're a baseball fanatic. I am wondering, like, he got an and the judges did specify this, that the scores from early in the season, they are going to be a bit more critical when it comes to scoring.

And honestly, I feel like they should because people only get better as the season goes on. And you can't start with nines and have a person get tens like their entire time on the season. So I feel like you have to be a little more critical so that you can give them feedback. Okay. I was a little worried about that because if we're starting out on like 12s and 14s, I was like, we have some growth to be done here. Right. So, no, we've got Jackson and Emma got all fives, and they gave him some good comments about foot placement and bent knees. And, you know, I don't know when I came on the show, I knew nothing about ballroom. Like, nothing. And I feel like for most of these people, even the professional dancers, Jenna Dewan was saying that she's a professional dancer, has been. And she hasn't danced in a while, but ballroom's completely new to her.

So I think that this show also, I believe, has really educated people on what ballroom looks like and what it should look like. And I love that the judges are able to give that technical feedback to these people about how it can be better. And usually you listen back to the show and think, what did they actually say to me? How can I make it better? And you see that improvement happening week after week. it's amazing. I think it's made dance like attractive, Trista. Yes. You know what I mean? Like, I don't know, I grew up in the South and everybody played football and baseball, so I don't know that like dance was attractive, but I know that you are a dance mom, right? I think it's made dance,

like, attractive, like that you can, you can seek dancing as a career. You can, it can be your passion, and it's like super cool. So I feel like, you know, since you aren't from a dance background, I feel like it was that back then. Like when I was dancing in college, my dream was to be Janet Jackson's backup dance. Wow. Oh, geez. I wanted to be her backup singer. Okay, there you go.

I love that. So I feel like it's always been, you know, in the dance world, when it comes to the dance world, it's always been there. But they have brought it to the main stage. They've brought it to the bulk of people in. in the United States at least and overseas. I mean, the show started as a UK production. I didn't know that.

Len Goodman, I believe, was one of the original judges on the original show. And I remember getting the call from an ABC exec. And when you got a call from this ABC exec, you took the call. And she was like, you know, they do this show overseas and we want to bring it to the states and we want you to do it. And I was like, what ballroom dancing? But it is now so sexy, like everyone wants to ballroom dance, right? So, yeah, I love what the show has done for the dance world. And it's given all of these people, especially sport athletes and Olympic athletes and

Paralympic athletes and all of these people, a platform that they don't normally have. We'll get into one of my favorites from last night. Well, I heard you say the word sexy, which takes us on to our. our next dancer. My friend, my lover, Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess, listen, I did not have high hopes for Taylor. I'm sorry, I did not have high hopes for Tyler. I love how the show talked about how big he is because, again, I've never met him in real life. I'm just running from my imagination here, but he strikes me as someone who is very beefy and tall. And I love that this show really worked on that with him

when they're trying to teach him to dance, that he's going to have to really work on those massive shoulders, Trista. Oh, my God. So anyway, Tyler and Sharna, they dance to, Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz? And they tango. Now, I did know what the tango is. It is a very sexy dance.

It is a very, like, I keep using the word attractive. But, you know, it's a very sexy dance. And she is so hot. And then him, you know, we're destined to be together. But they did a really good job. I was very surprised at how well they did. I was too. I mean, I, first of all, the dancing is a huge part of the show, right?

Like, yes, it's about dancing. I just heard Julianne Huff do an interview because they were saying, what about these stars who have dancing background? And she's like, you know, this is not called dancing with the non-dancers. This is called dancing with the stars. And I'm like, yes, that's a perfect way to put it. That it doesn't matter what dance background you have. You're dancing on the show as a competition.

But I feel like a big part of it is chemistry between the two partners. And Tyler and Sharna have great chemistry. I think it's probably really hard. for him to not have great chemistry with somebody because I feel like he is so charismatic. He is so fun and funny. I mean, the fact that their team name is Team Shardy. I can't. It's hysterical that they're calling themselves Team Shardy. And she's just having a ball with it. She has been on the show for years and years. And then she took a break to have her baby. And she's been, been gone, I think, four years, and now she's back and she's back. It felt like very much of a

redemption for her, too, which I really loved, right? Like, he's back. We're all super stoked to see the stars. But also for her to come back and I kept hearing her say, like, I'm home. You know what I mean? Like, I just love that. I love it. Totally agree. They did get a boo-boo because there was a lift. And when they were dancing, that's what I said to myself. I'm like, Carrie Ann's going to take off a point. Carrie Ann has always been a stickler for lifts. If there is an ability to have a lift, then obviously she will not take off points for it. But in certain genres, in certain types of dances, you are not technically allowed to lift. There are certain dances that you can.

But in this particular dance, the tango, there was not, it's against the rules. Oh, I didn't know that. I thought you could just toss people around wherever it fits. it. Nope. And usually if that's the case, and you know how he did it, like he held her arms and kind of spun her around. Spin me, daddy. Spin me, I mean, that's part of your dream. We're just going to project. I think he's engaged, Trista, which causes a huge problem for me. I'm aware. I'm aware. And she's so cute, too. I love their love story. It's so cute. Anyway, so he was spinning her around and her feet are not supposed to come off of the ground. And usually the pros are really good about keeping their feet like glued to the ground.

Well, he's also seven and a half feet tall. So it's probably like she was flying. You know what I mean? I'm so glad that you said that because when I was watching the show, I didn't catch that when they said that. Something about the feet coming off the floor. I had no clue. Probably because I was so engulfed in his face, but that's neither here nor there. I didn't.

I'm so glad that you brought that up because I didn't understand that that's what they were talking about. Yes. Yes. So in certain dances, it's against the rules. And this one, it was against the rules. And she'll always say that. Carrie Ann will always be the person to say, you did a lift. I'm taking off a point. And also, Bruno commented and said he has a lot of potential. I got the same note from Bruno during my season. Oh. And that actually was like, oh, gosh, that's actually a bad omen. I feel like I, I'm worried that Tyler won't last that long. Not, not my, not my Tyler. I know. Not my Tyler. I'm like lots of potential means a good thing, usually.

But I'm also like, oh no, does this spell disaster for Tyler? I hope not. I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong. Okay, well, answer me a stupid question while we're on this subject. No stupid questions. The show solely rely on voter interaction. No.

So the show is, I believe, half and half. So judges scores, you know, they have a whole list of the leaderboard that they'll post after at the end of every show. And it'll show you who's at the top and who's at the bottom. Not all the time will the bottom person go home because the other half of the indigree. on who's going to go home or the process, what's the word I'm looking for, is the viewer's votes. So, you know, last night, they had a huge debacle with the voting. And God bless Alfonso and Julianne because live hosting is so freaking hard. I remember Chris Harrison came to, used to come to an event and Vail like a fundraiser and he was always the like the live host the MC whatever whatever you want to

call it I was always so freaking impressed by how good he is in a live situation it is so hard I know that you've done it too I've done live hosting it is it is a talent it is an art it is really really hard and I give props to Julianne and Alfonso because they have people in their ear. And of course, this is a ballroom. The energy is electric, as you heard people saying, like, multiple times. Yes, it is electric. It's a lot of fun.

It's really loud. And so being able to hear what they're saying and being able to actually communicate that back to the television cameras in a live show is really hard. So I want to give them props, but I will also say that they did not include. the online voting. So there's two different ways to vote. You can text in or you can go online to ABC.com and you have 10 votes per night. So like last night, I voted five votes for one person and five votes for another. You can guess at the end who I voted for. My better be my boyfriend. Goodness. So five and five. And strategically, I've,

vote based on like, I know certain people are going to get so many votes. So I'm like, they're fine. I don't need to vote for them. I want to vote for these people who I want to stay, stay, have them stay around. Anyway, so getting back to the votes, there's half the judges, scores, and half is America's vote. So it's all based on how many people have gone online or texted. And obviously last night, they did not include online votes. Okay, perfect. Thank you for clearing that up. because I, you know, the whole thing with the live hosting, I feel you on that. Like, you always look at these people. I look at actresses when I watch shows and I'm like, I feel so easy. You're just like,

no, John, we cannot be together now and move on. It is a craft. It is a real job. And the same thing with the live hosting. But I'm wondering if you caught Derek Huff. He called Tyler Dylan. I sure did. I sure did. And actually, in the moment, I thought, no one's reacting. Like, did I just hear that right. And then, of course, on Instagram, I saw. No one even leaned over and was like, Derek, which show are you on? I know. And Julianne, even as his sister, when they came up to her, she didn't even say anything, which normally she'll, like, you know, harass him or whatever. Yo, bro, get your, get your name straight, right? You're only making whatever a million dollars to do this job. Come on, my friend. I do think it was really funny that he called him Dylan because Dylan

and Ephron was on last season. He's Zach Ephron's brother, super hot and super tall. I had no clue who he was until I saw him go and dancing with stars. And I'm like, who is this cute, hot younger brother? Where's even hiding? I feel like you can totally get them confused, Dylan and Tyler. So it was, it was an accident that I think could have happened to anybody. But I really felt like, yeah, they had a missed opportunity to actually criticize. Derek and like laugh and he had a missed opportunity to laugh at himself you know what i mean but whatever that's not a big deal whatever um i think tonight's episode he'll say something about it for sure so anyway even though the the guys aren't dancing i feel like he's going to say something um okay

so moving on dance three was connor levitt and adele who i i'm sure you didn't i'm going to assume because you're new to the Dancing with the Stars family, but they just had a show called Dancing with the Stars, the next pro. So Robert Irwin hosted it, and Adele was one of the next pros competing, and she won. And she was paired with Connor,

who is Whitney's wife from Mormon wives. Okay, that much I know, Trista, because this is all feeling very incestual as we go from The Bachelorette to Mormon wives to Whitney, who I know from Mormon wives, and then I saw clips of last season that she just freaking smashed it on dancing with the stars. Like, she was phenomenal.

So I would not say that I had high hopes for Connor because he gives me the ick a little. I'm really sorry. I'm not having midnight dreams of Connor, only Tyler. But even in this dance, I loved his song choice, but he's just a little too, like, megu. for me. Understood.

And I feel like he, so he does not have any dance background. His wife, on the other hand, was a competitive dancer growing up. And as a competitive dance mom, I know the Utah competitive dancers, a lot of the Utah competitive dancers who compete as like teenagers

are from a specific dance studio that all of them come from. Derek and Julianne, Jenna Johnson, Haley Bill, Whitney, Lindsay, Riley, like all of these guys come from Utah. It is amazing. It's actually Ashley Costa was a pro on my season, and her mom owns the studio. Kim, she is a lovely human.

I love their family and this extended family. Center Stage is the name of the dance studio. They just know how to produce professional ballroom dancers. Well, it sounds like. those Mormons know how to produce a lot of things. So, stop. What? It's true. They have beautiful hair. They end up on reality TV. Like, all the sodas, the different sodas, I could go on and on, just I digress, but like they're doing something right up there. Maybe I need to, like, high-tail it up to Utah. You know what I mean? Heck yeah. And they're also the nicest people.

So I will say, like, I love their whole family. But so Whitney comes from. from a professional, like a competitive dance ballroom or background. She is amazing. Her and Mark Ballas. Oh my gosh. Their dances. The one, the finale dance, if you haven't watched it, you have to go back and watch it. It was their...

I saw it. I did see that. Even though I did see that. We're getting way off track. I feel like we can talk about this until we're blue in the face. I did see that. And then I saw several of her stuff from her performance in Chicago. But what I need to say to you is that I'm not sure her husband is measuring up.

He did not do so hot last night. He was doing the salsa. He only scored a 12 out of 30, Trista. Yeah. Yeah. And honestly, I don't know that I've seen fours before being given. Really? Yeah, threes are fours.

And we had threes and fours last night. I mean, I told you, I'm no professional dancer. But like when I was watching him, I was like, I like my shoulders kept getting closer and closer to my ears. is that you can tell the pros who have been on this show for a long time. So the pros on this show are responsible for the choreography. And if you look at the last pose for Adele and Connor, like she ended up kind of, he was kneeling,

and she ended up kind of with her leg on top. It was a very awkward pose. And I thought that is not something that I feel like Whitney or Jenna or one of the pros would use as their last pose. Yeah, but you said this before is that the chemistry is very important. And we see that in some of these pros. Like we can start naming names, but, you know, I didn't see it between the two of them. But listen, to be honest, I don't see it between him and his wife. So like, what do I know?

But like, it just wasn't there for me. It just wasn't there. I agree. He is not, I don't think dancing is in his future, unfortunately. And you know what? That's okay. It doesn't need to be in everybody's future. You know, it's all good.

I love that he tried. And I will say, like, I give props to all of these people because it is so intimidating to be in the ballroom, especially if you've never been a dancer before. Trista, I am sitting here behind my computer screen. I mean, Picking these people apart. Come on. It's all good.

It's all good. We get it. Okay. So the next dance was Guillermo and Whitney. Guillermo is Jimmy Kimmel's like sidekick from forever ago. He performed to Mr. Big Stuff, did the chacha, and he did get two threes and a four. Painful. Yeah, it was pretty painful, but I will say I love his outlook, like that he's like, listen,

I just want to have fun. I want to lose some weight. People are saying I want to lose, you know, that you can lose a lot of weight on this show because you rehearse nonstop. I love that he had his family, you know, his family was super supportive in the ballroom. I love seeing that because this show is truly not about all, like, dancers who have danced before, like we said before. It's about people who are putting themselves out there and doing something new.

and out of their comfort zone. And I give him props for that. He did get two threes and a four. So he had the lowest score of the night. That's a spoiler for the rest of it. But he got a 10 out of 30. So yeah. We'll get into who went home in a bit.

But he did have the lowest score. Let's talk about like let's just hit a couple of your favorites from the night, Trista. And even touching on a little bit on maybe who wasn't your favorite. But like let's hit like some high notes here. well why don't we get through let's get through the net like all the rest of them and then I'm for sure going to touch on my favorites and maybe when we talk about them I can say it but I feel like Tyler definitely came out the gate I was like I loved his dance I felt like the chemistry with him and Sharna was amazing um like we said I think before we started recording today you know they start the show this is a producer move and I I know it you know it you know it it, even though you were denying that you believe it, is from, like, from the Bachelorette. Take the Bachelorette. They're going to have a guy come out of the limo. First guy come out of the limo is going to be a ringer, right? He's going to be somebody who fans are going to want to see

who people can get behind, right? He's going to be exciting. And then the last one to come out of the limo is also going to be really exciting. They're going to want to be bookmarks, right? And so, same thing with dancing with the stars. They're going to have a guy come out who has a really big fan base, who they know has a really great dance because they saw it in dress rehearsal, and then they're going to determine the lineup. And so they started with Emma and Jackson, and then who had a really strong performance,

and then you'll see in the end of the show, who they picked for the end. And then they, you know, they'll fill in, you know, sprinkle in everybody else. And so if that shows you anything, like the two dancers who got the lowest scores were third and fourth, you know. And then we pick it back up and the energy kind of comes back up. The next dance, speaking of the energy coming back up, is Ezra and Daniela. Oh, yeah.

So good. Favorite dance. He, like, I literally have chills just thinking about it. He's a Paralympic athlete. He lost his leg when he was a child. And his thing, I didn't realize his hand too, which is also so hard. I mean, just if you took away the fact that he's a, he's an amputee, his leg is amputated. And just his hand, like he had his big toe taken off when they amputated and put on his hand so that he can grip.

Which is a genius of that. Doctor, I know. So his story, just first of all, fans I know are falling in love with him. He's one of those guys. Immediately. You maybe have heard of. Maybe not. But holy cow, he is, he is one that I guarantee you. His, like, growth on social is going to go like this. Yeah. Because now that people know who he is, we are all falling in love with him at the same time. We all love that story. It's the same thing on all of the. reality shows that we watch. We need someone to cheer for. And as soon as he came out and they, and being just like a regular viewer, Trista, not having seen the scene the show before, as soon as he came out and they told even the smallest bit of his story, I was like, oh, okay. I love him. I need him to win and live forever and be president. You know what I mean? Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. And he did amazing. To see someone go out there. I can't do it on my own two feet. To see him go out there and freaking

smash it. I was just like, I was blown away. I was blown away. Same, same, same. And the fact that Daniela, you know, as a choreographer, she has to choreograph a number, but she also has to, like, this is kind of the finesse of the pros on the show, is they have to create a number that not only includes all of the things that they probably should include in the tango, in the tango, in the cha-cha, in the jive, in the quick step, whatever, have all of those technical elements, or a lot of them, or as many as they can. But also, go to the strengths of your, of your, of your, of your, of your, of your, of your celeb. So the fact that he couldn't, you know, he tried both of his legs, his, um, his prosthetics. And the one that they stuck with was the one that he

uses for running. And he couldn't walk like straight. And in the tango, that's, I guess, something that you need to do. I never did the tango on the show. But it's something that usually is pretty typical of the tango. Well, he had to kind of walk sideways. And she's like, that's just what we're going to do. They modified it so that they could lean in on his abilities and his strengths. and I love that, that whole notion that everyone can do this show, no matter what. Like he is a above the knee amputee, which is a lot like they talked about Amy Purdy. She got to the finals with Derek Huff and she's a below the knee amputee. You have a whole lot more control from what I understand as a past physical therapist being a below knee amputee compared to an above knee.

like he, he shined last night. And their chemistry, ugh, I mean, she, it's hard for her to not have chemistry too. Deanna, as a newbie, she was, you, you were talking about Tyler and how tall he is and everything. When you want to talk tall, you look at Daniela and one of her past pro or past celebs was an NBA player. I cannot remember, remember his name, but he was on special forces. he was on, I believe traders. So tall. Like, I want to say like seven and a half feet tall or eight feet.

He's so tall. And she's tiny. And so, like, the difference. Yeah, I know. And they made it work. But, and they made this work. Ezra and Danielle, Daniela just shown last night. It was amazing.

Like, if that's dance for me, like, I'm sold. Like that, it was, it was really, really, really great. So one of my other favorites, from the night was Taylor Hansen, mostly because I grew up listening to him. And I know I text you separately, Trista, but like for everybody listening, he has seven children. They cannot even sit at one, like, in one row on an airplane. I was like, what's he doing with all those kids? And he's still a kid. You know what I mean? We grew up with these guys. I like loved him. I think that if if we're making predictions, Trista, like, I think he's got, Tyler, okay, I love, right? We got him here.

But like I think my Hanson is going to go far. Like I think that he was very non-assuming. I think he did well. He didn't come out of the gate like flashing stars. Yeah. But I think that he's a natural born performer, obviously. And I think he's going to do really well. I mean, I love that.

And I think that you are not alone in that. There's a guy named, I think, Bobby Bones. He was on the show. And he has predicted the last four years. years or something like that of the winners and he said that Taylor is going to win or maybe it was the figure skater the girl um i as a dancer i agree with you on the performance level and he has a massive following oh does he really massive following so i think that that will get him far in the show i don't think he's going to win i just feel like he he is not necessarily a dancer when you

when you compare dancing ability, but he is a great performer. So I know that he's going to last long in the show, and so many of us, especially Ashley I, are such huge fans of Hansen. So I feel like he's going to stay for a really long time. And Britt, too.

I mean, maybe I have psychic abilities, but like what happened with a flash forward for me was like, he's going to do well, his career is going to revive, he's going to come out with a new album, and we're all going to be like, oh, my guy, and the Hanson brothers, they're back. It's fine. I'm here for it.

I will fan girl all night with you, Trista. It's all good. Yeah. Okay. And then last was Harry Shum Jr. from Grey's Anatomy, Glee, he's a backup dancer. He's paired with Jenna Johnson. Now, I have to say, even if it wasn't someone who had professional dance background,

I still think Jenna Johnson is such a huge fan favorite that she's going to say. day for a while, even if she doesn't. Yeah, even I know who she is, just from seeing her on social media. But he was really amazing. Just I didn't know who he was. And I'm a Gray's fan. When they go on set and he's in his Grey's Anatomy coat, I'm like, who is that? Where'd he come from?

Who's that man? So it's funny that you said that because I'm like, I'm a huge Grace fan. I watch it, you know, currently. And I love him on the show. I think the fact that he's filming Gray's during Dancing with the Star is also going to be really hard. Wild. But he's a professional dancer, has that in his background. I love that his daughter was in the audience, dressed to the nines. Like, she looked adorable. Their chemistry is amazing. And he got the highest scores of the night. I thought it was very well deserved. Coming from someone who

knows nothing about dance, I thought it was very well deserved. He, like, blew me away. I totally agree. So good. Okay. So they get to, they do Julianne's dance and then they get to the eliminations. And, as you kind of hinted to. Yeah, it was Connor and Adele. And I think, you know, honestly, Whitney was paired with Guillermo. She's pregnant. I think they knew that he probably wouldn't last that long as the, you know, the casting directors, whatever.

And I think Connor and Adele, like, Adele is the next pro. She was the new pro on the show. And I think they gave her, you know, this opportunity. And she'll stay on the show. She'll still be dancing. but I think they kind of, you know, think about the casting. I'm, I was sad for Whitney because she was all in.

I'm sure you saw when they were like Julianne was doing something and Whitney was behind her going like, vote for Connor. Go vote now. Yeah. Yeah. It was fine. Trista, I wasn't sad about it. I was like, by Connor, I hope you, they're going to be just fine, right?

I mean, they're going to be just fine. It was time to see you go. The dance laid flat for me. So that's by, I cannot wait to see more like dances and more eliminations. Like I think I'm fully invested now. And then what? Tonight we get to see the women, right? So excited.

I am actually really excited for the women because, I mean, men, obviously I find attractive and I'm like enjoying looking at all these guys. But like women move so beautifully to me and dance in particular. You know what I mean? Women are just gorgeous and I love to see the way women move. but this will be the first time for me where I get to see the two women perform together. I know that is not new to the show, but it is new to me. So I'm super stoked.

Yeah, and they have a really strong partnership. I think Haley is, she comes from the world of competitive dance and, like, won everything in terms of, like, competitions. She is so talented, and it seems like their chemistry is off the charts. I cannot wait to see more. I cannot wait to see the ladies move. And you know what? I'm just like so, I'm so happy to be podcasting with you. It like brings me great joy.
