Starting point is 00:01:19 was for Canadian Idol. Remember when I hosted that show back in the day? And we were doing auditions there. And I was struck by how, I mean, look, I come from a big city. It's quaint. It's cute. It's picturesque.
Starting point is 00:01:34 It feels like the entire island is a golf course. It feels like the entire island is a resort. And I love that about PEI. It's also the birthplace of Confederation, not for nothing. And so when I hear this next story that PEI has essentially become a forward operating base for the Chinese Communist Party, I got to ask myself, what the heck is going on? And so to discuss this is the co-author
Starting point is 00:02:08 of the book Canada Underseeds, Gary Clement, he's former national director of the RCMP's Proceeds of Crime Program, and he and I go way back. Gary, welcome to the show. Thanks very much, Ben. Okay, so can you lay out the case for why we should be concerned in PEI? Because most people listening to us have no idea what we're talking about, but they should.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Yeah, and let me be clear. This isn't a conspiracy theory. It's really a convergence of evidence from, you know, our intelligence agencies, parliamentary committees, independent journalists, and a lot of courageous whistleblowers. And, you know, it all unfolded in when optimum publishing first published hidden hand, and then they published the mosaic effect. And that was sort of the start of it. And when I was down doing a book launch on my book undercover in the Shady World of Organized Crime and the RCMP, we had a lot of islanders show up and they wanted to talk about what was going on in the island.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Right. And we should tell them, the concern was that over the course of time, these Buddhist groups were purchasing land acquisitions over, over through various groups of various people to the point that they now own a massive, a massive. a massive amount of land in a province that isn't that big. Correct. They estimate it's about 17,000 acres. That still has to be determined. But here's really the crux of it. They went down there.
Starting point is 00:03:41 They're supposed to be a monastic group. If you understand the Delhi land and teachings in that, it's living a monk is to, you know, take a vow of poverty. What we have here is a group that has got, I think, about $400 million in their bank account. They've moved massive amounts of money. In fact, on average, it was going in over a weekend, hundreds of thousands of dollars in night deposit boxes, consecutively numbered $100 bills. They've set up corporations, and I did a review of the corporations.
Starting point is 00:04:21 and the only way I can describe it, it was like looking at any investigation ever did on transnational organized crime with a number of corporations. And to top that off, thanks to the efforts of Dean Baxterdale, he dealt directly with the Sikian, who's directly connected to the Dali Lama. And he has confirmed that this group is not tied to the Dali Lama, it never has been. Okay. So right now, we currently have 700 months. of what's called the Great Enlightenment Buddhist Institute Society, and about 600 nuns
Starting point is 00:04:57 from the Great Wisdom Buddhist Institute, they call Prince Edward Island home on, as you said, about 17,000 acres of land. They're currently trying to set up buffer zones between them and the rest of the island, which I'm likening it to it, like the DMZ. That's how stark it is. but how much i've got to ask how much land by area and value have these groups bought in pei well if you take a look at 17 000 acres on an island that size and how they did this and this is where the land oversight was supposed to come in but how they did it they only can own so much land but what they did is every monk ended up or not went out and bought land in their name, but it all was for the purpose of the monastery itself.
Starting point is 00:05:51 And it was amazing how they did it. They actually would go to an individual's home, knocking their door, and say, we want to buy your house. And they would say, well, it's really not for sale. They would say, well, your value of your home is X. We'll give you X plus $200,000 in cash. And that's how they acquired a lot of the land. all the building has been built with cash money all the uh yeah construct okay so so it looks
Starting point is 00:06:23 it looks fishy it is fishy uh and you know you you said that in your analysis it looked like it was textbook organized crime um you know paint paint by numbers sort of thing we know that there is no religious connection between these organizations and the dalai lama correct so so So we know that there was a government, the government looked into this or they were supposed to, right? In 2018, there was a commission, an investigation was commissioned. And then we find out that the report was released, but it was never completed. Like, it seems to me like some draconian measures need to be taken here. You've got, you've got what seems like the Chinese Communist Party has created their own little de facto.
Starting point is 00:07:13 nation state on the island that was the home of sort of the birthplace of confederation and we're sort of just letting it happen well and that's a sad part of all this um i i hate to say it ben but our political leaders at all levels have let us down uh this isn't something that just surfaced overnight this is going on for a long time the chinese uh you know my experience and I was stationed over in Asia. My experience is the Chinese Communist Party, not the Chinese people. The Chinese Communist Party is probably the only way I can describe them,
Starting point is 00:07:52 I think they're the worst transnational organized crime group this world has ever seen. They're masters at elite capture. We've seen it, how they've impacted our elections. They've captured a lot of our politicians. and, you know, it's time that, and I'm putting an article out later today, that I'm saying our politicians at the prevention, municipal, and federal levels now have to decide what side of history they want to be on.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Yeah. Because we owe it to this country to do the right thing. So, Gary, two questions before we close this up. What is the fear of what could happen if we let this situation go unchecked? and why like what can we do can i like i said i'm i'm suggesting some draconian measures expropriating all the all of the land and kicking everybody out but like so what's the fear and what can we do well i think we have to be like united states if you're uh an individual that you're coming out of china and you're not residing in canadian you're not intending on
Starting point is 00:09:02 resigning in canada like the lady that wants to take over hutchins bay uh starts I mean, she's a Chinese citizen. A Ruby Lou. Ruby Lou. She's associated with all those individuals that were charged. And unfortunately, our court system screwed it up and they got off. But she's associated with them. Well, we know then that's some connection to the criminal element.
Starting point is 00:09:28 If she's directly tied to the CCP, then there's concurrence of the CCP party for her to start taking over these stores. Same in Prince Edward Island, we need to stop allowing these individuals buying up our land and setting themselves up, especially on the East Coast, which, God forbid, we ever got in another conflict, but the way the world is right now, wouldn't want to be a betting person. But if we did, they are strategically located as a foreign operating base. Wow. And so, but would you recommend, if the government came to you and said, Gary, like, we've got a real problem here. And I'm going to ask you to answer this in about 15 seconds.
Starting point is 00:10:12 But what do we do to take care of this as quickly as possible? Well, I think we have to go back and expropriate a lot of the land back and put some controls on the monastery. Thank you very much. I mean, as I said before, we are a country sometimes on serious issues that we take very unsuriously. And this is a prime example. Gary Clement, thank you so much for being here. Thanks, Ben.
