Starting point is 00:00:30 Welcome back to the Ben Mulroney show. And it's the day after the election, which means we want to hear from the people who had a voice in that election, our listeners. So give us a call here at the Ben Mulroney show and talk, let's talk about this fourth liberal mandate, What it means, are you happy with it? Are you disappointed? Do you think that it's the most democratic thing we can do is to allow Mark Carney and his liberals
Starting point is 00:00:56 who have the most seats in the House of Commons to do their best? I believe that it's incumbent upon us to let the guy, what's the line? Let the big dog eat. Let's just give it a whirl. Let's see if he can do what he said he came home to do, which was manage the crisis with Donald Trump, grow the economy, make us the fastest growing economy in the G7, and build more houses than we have since World War Two, making life finally more affordable for everyone. Rob, welcome to the Ben Mulroney show. Hello, Ben. How are you? I'm well. I'm well, thank you. Good. I've talked to you a couple of times. Big fan.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Having said that, very upset and frustrated today. said that very upset and frustrated today. Yeah I get that I get that what what but where's your head at like I get I get it was emotional we all had I wanted Pierre Poliev to win as much as the next guy I believe that his vision was what we needed I did not think that even with a new coat of paint the liberal party had earned the right for at another kick at the can but enough people disagreed with me so what do you do next? They disagreed with me as well
Starting point is 00:02:10 and that's part of the frustration it's just mind boggling that people can be tricked so easily I really tried hard this campaign I had members of my family come out and vote for the first time and yes, I influenced their vote but whatever, they still have their choice and we all voted blue tried so back up one minute
Starting point is 00:02:32 it when when justin was leading a lot of the words and we'd be to get him gone let's get out of here that i was one of the ones that was not happy to see me because i want to see him fired not quit and i think that we would had a much better result last night now to mark carney you know whether he was or wasn't great effective in his two roles as as head of the banks if you're in can you get that alone shouldn't be enough to get you
Starting point is 00:02:56 to be prime minister that's where people don't pay attention to the issues about all they heard deepening all we're gonna vote for him the class of the nbpDP obviously favored the liberals and I'm just, Ben, I'm frustrated man. Well listen, I get it, I think a lot of people are, I'm just choosing to subdue that feeling in favor of like what's the best thing for us moving forward at this point and to me it's given the guy a chance. I'm not going to say here and criticize his speech or his dancing. Although those things
Starting point is 00:03:31 were quite funny. I don't know if you guys see the social media of the dancing last night. Oh, the dancing. Let's welcome Sarah to the show. Sarah, welcome to the Ben Mulroney Show. Hi, Ben. You know what? I am really disappointed. And there's a couple of things. First of all, when I went into Ontario, like when I was in the Ontario provincial election, there was electric counting. I was really shocked to see that they didn't have that for the federal election. I think that would have been more fair. And the second thing is, you know, the crime in Toronto has really gone out of control.
Starting point is 00:04:06 The propaganda, you know, between different cultures and whatnot has gotten out of control. And I really felt that Pierre Collier could have tried to fix this issue. But you know, now we're back with Mark Carney and Donald Trump is the issue, but we're still stuck with this problem of crime, this overtaxing, which don't get me my i i i think we believe that i think that coming back you know i don't think that it's going to take on forever so you know that the gender with the liberal don't there and i do believe that i think
Starting point is 00:04:38 not gotten involved back in the day we would have had a conservative party we would have had to get i think that was that that's not for all of us conservatives. Well, listen, I think you may be right. You may be right on a few of those things. All I know is when, when the Tories were polling and expected to win 200 seats, they were pulling at 44%. They won just shy of 42% of the vote yesterday.
Starting point is 00:05:03 So that to me is, it is what it is. The collapse of the NDP is very significantly responsible for the result we saw last night. Tom, welcome to the Ben Mulroney Show. Thank you very much for calling us. My pleasure. Thank you. Yeah, the collapse of the NDP, obviously i did my car is very left-wing very very green so he will take votes from there but what i'm really looking forward to a very interested into the future is
Starting point is 00:05:34 how true is he was written word with the book values we know how green that book is we know what his goals are for worldwide so let's see if he brings that through to fruition. And what's really ticking me off right now is he has another book written called The Hinge, making Canada even better. Why was that not released?
Starting point is 00:05:56 It was originally going to be released May 13th, I think. Then it got pushed back to July, July 1st, Canada day. Why did he not release that even early? Then it got pushed back to July, or July 1, Canada Day. Why did he not release that even early? I would love to see what he has penned to paper, what he has to say. I didn't know about that book, but I was struck by the expression he used yesterday in his speech where he referred to this moment that we're living as a quote, hinge moment. And I thought that was a really interesting turn of phrase.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Maybe he's maybe he's priming the pump using that expression so he can ultimately release that book one day. But you're right. There are a lot of questions. Churchill, didn't it? Yeah, there are there are question marks. Another thing he's ripped off. There are question marks about about what kind of government he is going to form what their their policies will be, what their values will be, because we have heard differing things depending on what time of day it was or what language he used.
Starting point is 00:06:51 And so, yeah, but I'm gonna, listen, it's either give him enough leash, give him runway, or give him the rope to metaphorically hang himself with. But he's earned the right to have a little bit of freedom right now to actually get something get something done. David, welcome to the show. Thank you, Ben, for taking my call. Yeah, I'm disappointed. Unfortunately, my candidate lost. So I don't think a minority government's going to fly. We've had them in past.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And all we're going to hear about is that we can't do this, we can't do that, because we don't have the power to do it. Or it's just going to be another election in another four years is how I view it. It just, you know, I'm shocked at our country that they would do what they did. But like you say, if the guy is due, and as my father and you just quoted him, give him enough rope, he'll hang himself. So what but but I say, by the way, I want to be clear, I say that in
Starting point is 00:07:54 good faith, I'm just using the expression, because he's going to do one of two things, he's either going to sink or swim. But now I'd love to welcome Mo into the conversation. Mo, you've got a pretty bold, bold position you're taking. Yeah, and I'm glad I'm able to speak to the folks of GTA and beyond in that apply. I've been down there many, many times. And I know the country.
Starting point is 00:08:15 I've traveled across it. If I may, Ben, I just want to go through a quick point. I'll be very quick. I think now I'm going to start supporting that the West joins the United States of America. Here's why. Number one, the West does not get fair representation in the House of Commons. Alberta gets 37 seats. Atlanta gets 32. Soak on that for a bit about the contribution to Canadians from energy and agriculture. Equalization payments in the billions of dollars go to from Alberta to Quebec every year only so we can have our English language outlawed and our pipelines and energy corridors blocked by them. We have
Starting point is 00:08:54 socialist policies to get energy mining, agriculture, all attacking the industries of the West. In not sufficient pipelines. West Coast tanker ban but yet St. Lawrence Seaway. Let's welcome the Dick leaders tanker ban, but yet St. Lawrence Seaway. Let's welcome the Dick Peters oil ships coming in down to St. Lawrence. Hey, Mo, listen, we're gonna leave it there. I do hope that you don't jump ship on Canada too, too quickly, because like I said, you never know.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Let's wait and see what Mark Carney does. You don't know yet, because we don't know him. He hasn't been vetted yet, so now he's gonna be vetted on the job. Let's take I've got time for one quick call. Frank, you got about 15 seconds to make your case. Simple. Very, very simple. I have never been more disgusted in my fellow Canadians in my entire in my 56 years of life. This was the biggest disgrace I have ever experienced and I think we should be ashamed of ourselves. We are a very stupid people. That's all I gotta say.
Starting point is 00:09:52 All right, well I thank you. I wish we could end on a more hopeful note but Frank had the last word there. Want to transform your space and your Sundays?
