Well, the liberal government has done it.
They have moved from minority territory to officially holding a majority government and a majority position in the House of Commons.
Now, you may ask yourself, why should I care?
Well, here's why.
Because when a government moves from minority to majority, they gain full legislative control.
It enables them to pass legislation without opposition support, dominate parliamentary committees,
and comfortably finish their term.
They're in full control, right?
Which means this government doesn't have any excuses.
Yesterday, in Toronto, they handily won University Rosdale.
Congratulations to Danielle Martin, with 64% of the vote.
They won Scarborough Southwest winner, Dali Begham.
You'll remember, Dali is the former deputy leader of the Ontario NDP.
A little back and forth between those two parties.
And Terbonne, the one that I told you, was central to this government,
forming a majority, getting a majority.
They won with a fairly slim majority, 731 votes,
certainly more than the one vote that separated the two parties in the last election.
So they've got full control of the House of Commons.
And you'll remember that in the months leading up to the last election,
the floor crossings where the liberals didn't quite know if they could get themselves a majority.
And so they, the press was musing that perhaps we might end up at the polls in May because
the liberals were riding high.
And if they brought us back to the polls, the Tories would be decimated and they'd get their
majority.
And what they kept doing was beating the drum of the obstructionist Tory opposition.
they're getting in the way of all the stuff we need to do.
And it always felt a little too scripted to me
because every single liberal who got in front of a microphone
used the exact same words.
And I also didn't believe that the Tories were being obstructionist.
I thought that they were actually being quite helpful
and offering up real alternatives
and trying to improve legislation.
But that doesn't matter anymore
because they've got their majority and they are in complete control.
So what's he going to do now?
What's Mark Carney going to do now that he has all the power?
Well, today, the prime minister, I think, did something that all of us would say was a good thing with the skyrocketing gas prices.
He suspended the fuel tax on gas and diesel until Labor Day.
So starting on Monday, Canadians will pay 10 cents less a liter on regular unleaded.
and four cents less a liter on diesel.
I believe the Tories suggested something like this.
So listen, hats off.
Making life more affordable, I'm all for it.
Let's listen to the prime minister's announcement on this move.
We all know that because of the war with Iran,
fuel prices have increased sharply around the world,
including right here in Canada.
So we're taking more action to help build that bridge over short-term pressure.
with the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Natural Resources we're announcing today,
the Canada's new government will temporarily suspend the federal fuel excise tax from next Monday until Labor Day.
But what else is on this majority government's docket?
You'll remember in the last year of the 26 government bills that were before the House of Commons,
only 11 became law.
So we're expecting an acceleration of this, right?
And by the way, if there's anybody listening who is taking issue with the fact that I'm not complaining that because of floor crossers, the liberals find themselves in a majority position, that was yesterday, right?
This is today.
This is where we are.
I take the world as it is.
And as it is, we have a majority government, which means my expectations for this government are higher.
I'm expecting speed.
I'm expecting impact.
I'm expecting decisions that will change the course of where this country is and where
it's going.
So where else are we going besides cheaper gas?
Well, British Columbia marks its 10th anniversary of toxic drug crisis as a public health emergency.
So congratulations, British Columbia.
You'll remember that they were the first and,
most enthusiastic province to jump in with both feet with what was easily the most permissive
drug culture in this country. And with no pathway for rehabilitation and with no mental health
supports, the population there that was saddled with and struggling with drug addiction
has only gotten worse. So maybe our government could do something
on that file. Oh, thank you, Intrepid. Since January, 26, close to 19,000 people have died from
illicit drugs, not in Canada, no, in British Columbia alone. That is enough to fill Vancouver's
Rogers Arena. Think about that. Every single seat, it's a sellout at Rogers Arena. That's how many people
have died, and I'm not going to say because of this drug culture, but it certainly hasn't helped.
And how long did it take for the BC government to admit that they may have aired in their,
and how they went about it? Well, look, for anybody out there who says that the conservative,
like the conservative movement and conservative parties have no place in politics, were it not
for an ascendant and surprisingly competitive conservative party in the last.
provincial election in British Columbia, where they were adamant that they were going to reverse
course on this nonsensical BS drug policy, David Eby would not have adjusted course.
That was, remember, in the dying days of that election campaign, he closed the gap with them
by essentially adopting their position.
Were it not for the conservative voice, that policy would probably still be in place.
he gave up on his beliefs, on his ideologies for votes.
Yeah.
I mean, that's what it is.
I follow the science.
Remember, I follow the science.
I follow the science unless, of course, it's going to cost me the election.
Okay, so that's one thing I think we would all like to see some leadership from the prime minister on.
I know that health care is a provincial jurisdiction.
However, there are still things that can be done at the federal level.
What about crime?
That is the bread and butter of the conservative party.
and you might remember that in the first year of this government, the Tories put forth the
jail not bail bill, which was, I think it really did check so many of the boxes as it relates
to home invasions, the rotating door of bail. You commit a crime, you get arrested, and you're out
on bail in a minute. So many of those things that annoy us every single day and make us feel like we don't
have faith in either the criminal justice system or the belief that everyone is equal before the law.
And the liberals voted it down. And then they said, don't worry conservatives because we're coming
forth with our own bill that is going, that you're going to love. I believe that was almost what
they said verbatim. And their bill came in and it was better than what we have, but it wasn't
what the Tories were putting forth. And it's still not a law. And means,
Meanwhile, what's going on? Well, two of five men accused of murdering a teenager in a terrifying
Hamilton area shooting. Turns out the Toronto son has learned, because this was not given out
by the police, are refugee claimants. And it begs the question, will the courts show leniency
based on their risk of deportation? Because we've seen that before. We are not going to throw the
book at you because if we do, you might have to go home.
home to which I say, well, that solves two problems.
Border services handcuffed by current laws.
As a matter of fact, they said we have been stymied at every step.
We're trying to get rid of these guys.
And every time we think we've got them, there is another loophole in the law that they can take advantage of and they are still here.
So look, the road is long and it's littered with mistakes from the Justin Trudeau era.
Mark Carney has a lot of cleanup to do.
But hey, man, the road is yours.
There's nobody else on it.
It is your show.
We're going to watch, sit back, and hope to God you clean up this mess in short order because I don't know how much more we can take.
Let's keep playing that for a little bit.
That is from American Idol, I believe, last night when Billy Idol...
Some crimes are so shocking.
They don't just make headlines.
They forever change our society.
I'm Katie Ring, host of America's most infamous crimes.
Each week, I take on one of the most notorious criminal cases.
Each case unfolds across multiple episodes, release every Tuesday through Thursday, from the first
time that something was wrong to the moment the truth came out or didn't.
Listen to and follow America's most infamous crimes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon
music, or wherever you listen to your podcasts.
A 67-year-old grandfather fails to show up for a meeting with his son at a local tire shop,
sparking a desperate search.
And he wouldn't be the only victim.
I'm Global News crime reporter Nancy Hicks.
You might listen to a lot of true crime podcasts this year, but they're not crime beat.
Season 8 drops April 21st.
But you can hear the first story now, one month early, only on Amazon music.
Was performing with Carrie Underwood, and that way he was performing a rebel yell.
And let's go to the next clip because then Ryan Sechrest had a very special announcement for Billy Idol.
Well, rock and roll hall got some huge breaking news.
Step down here, gentlemen, for just one second.
Billy Idol and longtime collaborator Steve Stevens will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Yeah, I mean, that's, I'm pretty sure musicians don't.
perform and they don't sing and they don't write and they don't put art out into the world to get into a Hall of Fame. I don't know that that's on anyone's vision board. But after a long career, it is a, to be recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a thing. It's a big deal. So congratulations to him as well as the entire 2026 class of inductees that includes beyond Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division and New Order.
Oasis. They had a hell of a year last year. Shadeh, not exactly rock and roll.
I don't think that exists anymore. Rock and roll doesn't matter. Luther Van Dross.
He's not rock and roll. He's not rock and roll. And they're not rock and roll. So it doesn't matter.
Hold on. I didn't say my favorite one yet. Phil Collins. Oh yeah. I love me some Phil Collins.
Phil Collins to me is one of the great performers between everything he did for, uh,
In the air tonight.
Oh, the, the drum.
Do do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
Yes.
No, that's, that's one.
And some of the greatest videos online are when young kids, like millennials and
Gen Z, hear that song for the first time.
Yeah.
Because it's so quiet, and then that hits, and they just can't believe that drum.
It's amazing.
I think he's in already, he's in with Genesis.
Yeah, like, yeah, let's not forget.
This will be his second time.
Let's not forget.
Yeah, he's like a double.
It's almost like Lionel Ritchie, who was in with the Commodores.
Yeah, yep, absolutely.
Yeah.
Well done, Phil Collins, I salute you.
And Intrepid over here was trying to convince me that he said, well, it's kind of interesting that Phil Collins's daughter Lily, who's in Emily and Paris.
Among other things.
Among other things.
Is now a bigger star than he is.
Currently.
To which I said, you shut your mouth.
You shut your mouth and you die.
And then you tried to slap me and I said, I don't think so.
I can't reach that high.
But he's forever.
Lily is of today.
Phil Collins is forever.
He looks like he repairs computers in the 1980s.
And he spits out hits like the cowbell guy on SNL.
I put my pants on one leg at a time.
But once they're on, I make goal records.
And there you go.
And I need more cowbell.
Anyway, congratulations to all of them.
That'll be a good show.
That'll be a good show.
It's sort of hit or miss, you know, depending on your music.
But do they have to show?
Like, is Oasis going to show up?
They don't have to.
Radiohead didn't show up.
Not all of them, didn't.
Shade.
Shadee, I would listen.
Orinoco Flo is the best CD.
And yes, it is a CD, I was do it,
to fall asleep to.
I don't know if she'd appreciate that.
No, I'd love it. I listened to it.
I would put me, I'd have the most relaxing sleep ever.
I love Chaudet.
And actually, you know what?
When Luther Vandross gets put in there,
he doesn't even have to sing, he can just speak with that voice.
Didn't he die?
Isn't he dead?
I don't know.
Is he dead?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's dead.
Well, maybe they can just play some videos.
I think Luther Vandros died a long time ago.
Yeah, he died.
How long ago?
2005.
That's why I can't remember it.
He intrepid producer is spending,
He's spent so much time binge watching Emily in Paris that he doesn't do the basics.
I'm kidding.
I kid.
I kid.
It will be a great concert.
My feelings are hurt.
Come on.
Okay.
So Avi Lewis is the new leader of the NDP.
And he was, he and his merry band of six, six members of the NDP were at a lectern for a,
for a question and answer session with the press.
You were thinking about saying,
and you were like,
I don't know if I should say this.
Mary Band of something.
And then you just sort of,
you just let it go.
I'm trying to turn over a new leaf
and I'm trying to be a little more magnanimous.
Anyway,
he,
he,
a question was posed
and he wouldn't let Heather McPherson,
who finished second,
answer a question.
And then,
well,
let's just listen to Avi Lewis.
For Heather,
can we get a question on Trump,
I'm blocking Iranian ports.
But Trump is blocking ports.
David, you're next.
Trump is blocking sports.
Are we not allowed to get answer from the foreign affairs?
I'm happy to take your question.
As the press gallery's room, if Mickey's got a lot of questions,
she got it up before I did.
Okay.
The question is for Heather.
I'm going to take the rest of the questions.
First of all, we had a conversation as a caucus before the press conference,
and they encouraged me to do my first press conference on the hill and answer the questions.
buddy, sir, Mr. Leader,
you got a caucus that can fit in a minivan.
If you're having problems with one of them,
that's like having problems if you're Mark Carney
with 40 of your caucus.
They could have fit in the Orion capsule.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They could have fit in the Orion capsule.
Almost, almost.
No, they could have.
No, you have room for four.
Yeah, yeah.
But if you see when the actual went and grabbed it,
more guys jumped in.
Okay, okay. Anyway, my point is, buddy, like, if you don't want anybody else speaking, don't invite them up.
And if they ask Heather McPherson to answer a question, it's not a good look to deny a woman's right to speak.
Like, that's not a good look. And by the way, he said, I'm the one answering the questions.
But then he let one of his own, another member of the team speak.
So none of it has made any sense. None of it at all made any sense.
And if what's the expression that they're so disorganized?
They couldn't organize a one car funeral.
Something like that.
Something like that.
That's this.
It's a press conference.
You stand in front of a lectern and you answer questions.
And either your people stand behind you or you just go up there yourself.
if they come up together and Heather is asked a question,
you let her speak because now the story is,
what's your problem with Heather McPherson?
And he's a media savvy guy.
He should know this stuff.
Well, perhaps this just comes down to the NDP,
no matter how big the fire,
let's throw more gasoline on it.
Yeah, I don't know that they're,
I don't know that they have much of a fire.
Like, and as a conservative,
I want the, the NDP to succeed.
because that's the dynamic that gets them elected.
So, but you can't help people who won't help themselves.
And look, coming out of a, coming out of a hotly contested race,
if you are exposing that you have problems with your number two,
who is a woman, that's not a good look.
Do you know why? I figured it out.
Why she wasn't allowed to speak?
She didn't have the equity card.
Right. That's right. She forgot them at home.
But which card?
Well, because there was all those, they out victimize each other, but there was all the different cards.
So that's it. She didn't have her card. She didn't have her card.
And there you go. That's right. The other guy did. I see. Right. Okay. Well, look, lesson learned for the next time maybe. Like, that was just, that was the NDP in a nutshell.
Like, and they didn't even say Israel once.
They didn't say genocide once.
And they managed to face plant.
And what flag?
They didn't actually.
There were no flags.
There were no cofias.
There were no claims or calls to divest of investment in Israel.
It was just them not being able to get organized.
Well, you know what?
I think that, I think you know what?
I think we've got something.
I think for this show here,
we have to start having cards.
If there's something I want to say,
I'm going to throw out a card,
and it's almost like,
Uno, if you can trump my card,
then I won't say anything.
What card are you going to pull?
The height card.
Oh, I'm left-handed.
Because you're height-ists.
I'm left-handed.
Well, that's, well, there's more people
who left-handed than are tall.
I don't know if that's true.
Well, as a heightist, that's what we're going to say.
I don't know if that's true.
My name is Mickey Fox.
