What is a woman?
The question of a generation.
The question was asked of Ketanji Brown Jackson at the Supreme Court. You may remember this moment when Marsha Blackburn
asked poignantly, what is a woman to presumably one of the smartest women in the country,
we were told by Joe Biden. And she answered like this. Can you provide a definition for the word woman can i provide a definition no yeah i can't you can't
not in this context i'm not a biologist her jaw was left on the floor she said she's not a biologist
and she looked pissed off why is this question so difficult for the hardened Marxist left?
What is it that they're trying to hide?
Who is it that they're not trying to offend?
You could also ask, can men get pregnant?
You could also ask, can women have beards?
You might get the same answer.
Somebody who is not a woman, but who definitely has a glorious beard is Matt Walsh,
the author and star of the new hit movie on the Daily Wire, What Is a Woman? Matt Walsh joins us
now. Matt, congratulations on the success. I mean, you kind of, the greatest trailer for this movie,
when the trailer is awesome, the greatest trailer for this movie, and the trailer is awesome,
but the greatest trailer for this movie was that question during the Supreme Court briefing.
You got to tell us up front, did you call Marsha Blackburn and say, ask this?
I didn't. It just really, I mean, it worked out. She, that question was asked, and then,
and then we put our, put out our first trailer a couple days after that. It just kind of,
it worked out.
I don't know, things just aligned perfectly, but it's also not totally a coincidence. Like over the last sort of year, of course, I've been on this journey that we documented
the documentary, but I think the question also has kind of sort of working its way into
the public consciousness a little bit along the way as people started to realize that the
whole gender ideology house of cards can come crashing down just under the weight of very
simple questions, including the most simple one of all, at least what we thought was so simple,
like, you know, what is a woman? I've got to ask your personal reaction when you saw
Katonji Brown Jackson, apparently the smartest woman that Joe Biden knows, say she's not a biologist? The thing is, if I had not been filming this documentary for the year
prior to that, I probably would have been as shocked and appalled as a lot of people were.
But I wasn't because that's exactly the kind of answer that I have. And you'll see the documentary.
It's like, that's exactly the kind of thing I've encountered so many times from people who, you know, including people who are supposed to actually
be experts in the field of medicine, biology, and science. At least Ketaja Brown Jackson could
fall back on the fact that, hey, I'm just a judge. I'm not a biologist. Not that that's any excuse,
but I talked to people who are actually supposed to be experts in this specific area,
and even they couldn't answer it. So to hear that non-answer from her was just right in line with,
because they cannot answer it. It's not that they don't know the answer. It's just that they can't
answer it. And they realize that they can't answer it because if they do, they're going to back
themselves into a corner that they won't be able to get out of. And that's really what it comes down to.
The full title of the movie is What is a Woman? One Man's Journey to Answer the Question of a Generation.
Book of the same title. You can find this documentary, by the way.
We absolutely suggest you go to whatisawoman.com.
Matt, what inspired you to go on this personal journey?
You put a ton of work into this. You are at like 20
different locations, a ton of interviews, pissed off all the right people. What is it that inspired
you? Yeah, we went, I don't even know the full number of places. We went all around the country.
We went to different countries as well, including all the way into the wilderness of deep into
Africa as well in pursuit of an answer to this question.
For me, it really started with, honestly, it started with a tweet. I mean, back in, I think,
like 2018, probably four or five years ago, it occurred to me that the left is going around making this claim that men can be women. And you hear statements from men where they'll say,
oh, I identify as a woman. And it just occurred to me
that I'm not sure they really know what they're saying. And so when they say I identify as a woman,
it's just a real simple follow-up is, well, what is that? What are you trying to say exactly?
And that's really what the question is getting to. It's like, what are you trying to say when
you make that claim? And so I posed it on Twitter, you know, four or five years ago, I said, can anyone from the left tell me what a woman is? And for years, I kind of kept it on Twitter. And
I was waiting for somebody, anybody on the left to answer it. None of them would. I started giving
speeches about it. You know, I talked about it on my podcast. And I got to a point where it's like,
either I could just let this go, but that's not an option because I can't let anything go. Or I need to actually go
out there and pursue people and get this question in front of them in a more active sort of way.
And that's the option that we chose. And this film arises from that.
People got angry. Can you describe some of these interactions?
Yeah, the two things that we encountered, I think, are a lot of anger and a lot of a lot of fear, too.
You know, we talked to we talked to the so-called experts. We also talked to just normal people on the street.
And then we talked to people at the Women's March, too, who are not so normal, but they were on the street.
And from the normal people, I think many of them, sadly and depressingly, also could not or would not answer
the question, but they very rarely on the street did anybody get mad at me. They didn't get angry
about it. It's more that they were afraid. They'd start glancing at the camera and sometimes they
would tell us that, oh, I don't want to talk about this on camera. I can't. I'm afraid.
So there's a lot of fear. The so-called experts are the ones who got angry because number one, they're angry that I'm talking to them and asking them any questions at all,
because what the relationship that they think that's supposed to happen here is they just make
a statement and then I sit there and accept it, right? I nod my head and say, okay, Mr. Expert,
if you ask any kind of skeptical question at all, that makes them angry.
It kind of injures their pride. And then when they realize that they're getting backed into a corner and they're losing,
you know, that's when they get very angry in a defensive way. So there's a there's certainly a lot of that in the film.
There was a lot of that in the film. Also on Dr. Phil, we saw this when you were sort of outnumbered 100 to one.
And this question
brought multiple guests to tears. Hi there. I'm Ryan Reynolds. And I have a list of things I like
to have on set. It's just little things like two freshly cracked eggs scrambled with crispy hash
brown sausage crumble and creamy chipotle sauce from Tim Hortons. From my writer to Tim's menu,
try my new scrambled eggs loaded breakfast box.
Yeah, that was in the middle of when we're still kind of filming the documentary.
And I got the call to appear on Dr. Phil and talk about this.
And the interaction during the filming, it got pretty tense. And I, you know, we went back and forth and they had some, you know, they had some, they were trans and non-binary diversity consultants. I believe if I remember correctly, that was their title. And then they brought in
a college professor. And then later in the show, they had this quote, non-binary parent who's
raising a quote, genderless child. And so that's kind of what I was on the stage with. And I was the same thing that couldn't answer basic questions,
not just what is a woman,
but really they couldn't answer any question at all about any of these
things that they're saying.
And then after the facts,
a couple of the people on stage complained publicly that they had been
traumatized and were having nightmares because of,
because of little old me.
And, and, and I, I don't know, I think I'm a, I think I'm a lovable old me. And I don't know.
I think I'm a lovable, nice guy.
So I don't understand what the big deal is.
They might have a lumberjack phobia.
That could be it.
Never know.
Anti-flannel thing.
I don't know.
We get it.
Hey, listen, speaking of lumberjacks chopping wood here,
what is the core of the message here?
What is the goal? Because message here? What is the goal?
Because it seems so pernicious.
It's something that, of course, no other parent,
you're a parent, I'm a parent,
no one's had to deal with this en masse in America.
There've been bad stuff pushed on our kids all the time,
but this is very different, this moment.
Can you sort of unpack that for us?
Yeah, I think what you just said
is a big part
of the message in the film that I want people to take away. I mean, there are plenty of moments
in the film that are quite funny. It's funny, but it's also not. And it's kind of hilarious,
but then it also gets quite disturbing because you can't help but laugh when you see an adult
flummoxed by a question like this. It's, it's hard not to laugh when you hear people making claims about, you know, women
with penises and all kinds of things. It is funny because it's absurd, but then it's the laugh,
the laughter kind of dies away when you realize that this is pervasive. It's it is utterly this
way, this, this ideology, this cult mentality is ubiquitous across the entire country. It is utterly this way, this ideology, this cult mentality is ubiquitous across the entire country.
It is it's infected every generation. I mean, I talked about the people we kind of man on the street interviews that we did.
And it didn't matter if we were talking to somebody who was young or old.
It was like everybody was confused or at least pretending to be because they were so afraid. And that's when it becomes a lot, a lot, you know,
it's not quite as funny when you realize how pervasive this is.
And especially the fact that millions of children are being
helplessly indoctrinated into this. It's a,
it's a conspiracy among the school system, you know, academia, the media,
Hollywood government government, corporations, all the
most powerful institutions in the country are conspiring together to foist this onto
kids.
And it is having the effect that they desire.
You can look at the survey data.
I mean, according to the latest Gallup poll, I think it was trans identification in the youngest generation is like 10 times higher than it was, or maybe
20 times higher. It's just exponential growth in this demographic. And that is all entirely
by design. And that's the other thing we want to bring out of this. We want people to take
away from this film. Yeah. James Lindsay would say that this is by design to destroy the
nucleus of the family to separate children from parents because they come home saying that they're
a tree sexual and the parents say that's not a real thing. And a young, impressionable, fragile
child goes on a terror and then separates from their their moms and dads. Right. And so what you're
doing is you're breaking up the strongest thing in the country to fight the powers that be,
that would try to control our kids, the family, and that this is sort of the ax at the root of
that tree. Did you see any of this in the documentary? Absolutely. And what you bring
up about the parents is really important because we talk about the indoctrination of kids, which is going on.
But there's also what is not discussed quite as much.
And we try to bring out in the films that there's also the indoctrination of the parents.
And many of that happens through emotional blackmail where the parents are told that, OK, your daughter, who's 14 years old, came home and said that she wants to get a double mastectomy and wants to be a boy. And if the parents go to, you know, a counselor or a therapist or talk to anybody these days, what they're very often going to be told is, well, you have to go along with it or a living son? That's, that's the way that this is presented. That's the,
that's the false choice that parents are presented with. And when,
when, you know, especially if you're, if as a parent,
if you're not prepared for this, if this,
if this kind of blindsides you and then you're now,
you feel like you're backed into a corner and you're being told by these
authority figures that you trust,
that if you don't go along with your child, they're gonna kill themselves.
It's just, it's the worst form of emotional blackmail.
And that is another thing that's having
exactly the effect that is intended.
Lightning round here.
Matt, if Joe Biden was asked, what is a woman?
What do you think his answer would be?
Well, his answer to every question you ask him
is incoherent.
So it's pretty, so for that reason alone,
it's easy to say that it's incoherent. But look, Joe Biden is 9000 years old. And and only recently did he decide that, you know almost their entire public career, never said anything about transgenderism, never mentioned it.
And now they're all flying the trans flag. I wish that somebody in the media would actually ask them, yeah, what is a woman's good question?
But also, hey, when did you decide that gender was fluid and how did you arrive at that conclusion?
Because there's no evidence you believe that for the first 70 years of your
life. Now you do what happened to change your mind?
Questions never answered, never asked because there's no good answer.
Of course, the answer is that they have just,
that they're going along with, with the political trends.
And yeah, Joe Biden,
not concerned too much about trans lives as he's plagiarizing and doing impressions of Indian people at gas stations and, you know, talking about corn pop.
Final question. What is a woman?
That feels like a spoiler for the film, but I don't want to.
OK, fine. I'll do this for you. I'll give away the spoiler.
And it turns out that a woman is a um an adult human female that's it you've done a service for our entire nation a woman is
exactly what we always uh thought she was as it turns out so we've got this whole journey to bring
us back to what we always knew our uh our journey here that, man, thank you, Matt. You've done a service to the
entire country. I can't believe your timing on this. I mean, I'm sitting watching here going like
these guys, they must've known something's in the water because they must've known it couldn't be
more perfect, the timing. And so thank you. Please, ladies and gentlemen, go and watch
