This is Nick.
This is Jack.
And this is Snacks Daily.
It is Thursday, the new Friday, February 3rd.
I forgot to check, what did Puxetani fill the groundhog say?
Honestly, Jack, you're not going to want to know.
What did I say?
It's six more weeks of winter, which I think means six more months a winner for you in Vermont.
I was going to say, six more weeks of winter was a given.
We're bracing for that big storm.
I think that big storm is your next four months, Jack.
Snuggers, today's pod is the best one.
It's a T-Bail-Wy. Jack, what's our first story today?
SeaWorld just shockingly had their best quarter.
ever. SeaWorld. So SeaWorld is trying to acquire landlocked world. When the going gets tough,
Shamu gets jacked. For our second story, Facebook ended their Zuckcoin crypto project. Dunzo.
But they don't want to talk about that. No. Or the earnings they announced yesterday. They
don't want to talk about that either. The Metaverse, that is Facebook's meta distraction.
And our third and final story is SpaceX. Space. Just announced $500 a month space internet.
Here's how we're seeing this. Elon's Wi-Fi is either pulling a Tesla or it's pulling a Tiffany's.
But before we hit that wonderful mix, Nick, really great mix for a Thursday.
I love this mix.
Jeff Bezos has something to share.
He's up to something new.
Jeff Bezos has a new startup.
And that new startup is a school.
A tuition-free preschool that Jeff Bezos just launched with 14 locations to start.
First hit at Amazon, honestly did not see this coming, Jack.
This is a great initiative.
Montessori-based education with like lots of wooden blocks for kids who can't afford it.
Now Jeff's calling this Bezos Academy because, you know,
If your name isn't on it, does it even count?
Now, we're calling this prime poly prep.
We're calling this prime prep because today's arts and crafts activity
is folding a cardboard box inside of more cardboard boxes.
For recess, we're letting the kids deliver at least three packages each.
You're allowed to take one meal for yourself at 50% off if you deliver 50 meals on time.
By the way, don't ask the teacher if you can use the bathroom.
Jeff's like Apple Wedges, you're not getting those until you hit our numbers.
What I think prime prep is definitely best in market at is legit.
You're so right, Jack. Logistics. I mean, pick up and drop off. That's what Prime Prep does. There's no line. Probably getting dropped off by drone. But if they're not, what time should I pick up my little Johnny from school? Your child is in transit. You can check the tracking number on your child or opt into text notifications. Can I ask though? Did Johnny make any friends during school? Well, based on prior play dates, little Johnny may also enjoy Ross or Tanya. What if Johnny misbehaves? Prime Prep does not accept returns. Let's in our three stars.
We spoke to the lawyers and we got to get something illegal out the way.
The snacks about the hair ain't food.
It's air candy.
They don't reflect the views of the robberhood family.
It's all informational just so.
We're not recommending any securities.
It's not a research report or investment advice.
Not an offer or sale about security.
Snacks is digestible.
Business news for you.
Robberhood Financial, LLC, member FINRA slash SIPC.
Yeah, can toss on a wet suit and eat some headache.
First story, SeaWorld just had its best quarter ever. SeaWorld. So SeaWorld is offering three billion
to buy another chain of theme parks. Yeah, the pescatarians over at SeaWorld, they think they've moved
beyond that whole killer whale controversy from a few years ago. Do you remember that Netflix
documentary, it was called Blackfish? And it cast an ethical shadow over the whole fish tank.
That's one reason why SeaWorld stock has done absolutely nothing. Zero in like eight years.
It did something two years ago when the pandemic started, revenues and the stock price tanked.
The pandemic beats Seaworld like a rogue wave, shut every single park down for almost a year.
But last quarter, this is a complete shocker.
SeaWorld announced record revenues and profits.
Can you talk about the stock jack?
That was like entertaining.
It is nearly twice as high today as it was any time before the pandemic.
And the key snackers is because when you're going to SeaWorld these days, you are going to SeaWorld these days.
You are revenge spending.
The average visitor to a SeaWorld Park is spending 23% more than before the pandemic.
Oh, yeah.
To see those belugas do the bomb.
Oh, and for example, SeaWorld's restaurants, they've had their best sales ever.
You haven't seen dolphins in years.
Sure, I'll take an extra fish and chips.
You got tartar on your face.
I don't care.
I'm in SeaWorld.
Oh, and by the way, they've spent all this time like investing in new roller coasters at different sea worlds.
It's not just water stuff.
You take like conventional roller coasters too.
Title surge, reef plunge, aqua slide.
Those are all the new roller coasters.
Yeah, if the roller coaster doesn't have a water-themed name, you're fired.
Now, Snackers, here's what Jack and I found fascinating about SeaWorld.
Shamu has so much money right now that they're making their biggest splurge ever.
So much cash.
Seaworld has offered $3.4 billion to acquire Cedar Fair.
That's another theme park.
So SeaWorld publicly traded theme park company, their ticker symbol is C's by the way.
Cedar Fair publicly traded.
theme park company, their ticker symbol is fun. This just makes sense. They were meant to be together.
Well, fun is an aggressively local chain of theme parks. It is. Yeah, based in Sandusky, Ohio,
a town that, you know, Chris Farley and Tommy Boy really enjoyed. Callahan Auto, Sandusky, Ohio.
It's a fine product. Cedar Point. This like theme park you probably haven't heard of,
its flagship park actually began as a simple Lake Erie Beach for Midwesters in the 1870s.
And now Cedar Point sells corn dogs, loop-the-loop, and is the cream of
the crop of Cedar Fair.
Now, Jack and I were doing some research on Cedar Fair.
And the way to think of their theme parks is like, you know, Disney World Light.
Here's a few of their theme parks.
Worlds of Fun in Missouri.
They got Gilroy Gardens over in California.
And they got Carrow wins, a lovely weekend retreat over in North Carolina.
So Snackers, when you hear theme park, you're immediately thinking, boom, Disney World.
Fly to Orlando for a week.
That's a destination.
But most of the theme park industry, it's actually like super regional.
Hey, you're making a day trip to Agawam, Massachusetts.
It's fur in and out.
It ain't a destination.
It's a weekend enjoyment.
So, Jack, what's the takeaway for our buddies doing flips over at SeaWorld?
When the going gets tough, the tough get merging.
Yeah, Snacker, SeaWorld is swimming in record cash today.
But a new variant, that could like totally shut it down tomorrow.
This glorious period of revenge travel, it's not going to last for us.
You're going to see the dancing seals once, and you're not going to splurge and do that multiple
times probably.
So SeaWorld is bracing for the uncertainty of the future by bulking up by acquiring arrival.
should point out that this deal has not yet been accepted by Cedar Fair amusement parks.
But if Cedar Fair does accept it, then $5 billion 12 Park SeaWorld could become $8 billion,
$8.28 Park C universe. So Snackers, when you see that go and get tough in a certain industry,
the tough get huge. By merging. For our second story, Meta, formerly known as Facebook,
just announced earnings and the stock plummeted. Zuckwantz.
talking Metaverse, though, so that we're not talking about trust.
You can't talk about it.
You can't.
He doesn't want's talking about it.
Snaggers, based on the recent news about Facebook, you'd think it's a completely different
company.
First of all, Facebook, they changed their name from Facebook to meta.
They changed their focus from social media to the Metaverse.
And then they changed their corporate divisions to highlight virtual reality headsets.
They're like social media.
What are you even talking about?
That was me in high school.
I'm like, I've studied abroad.
I'm like a different person now.
That's not me anymore.
But yesterday, we learned from their quarterly earnings report.
that they can't hide.
Crocs.
I don't wear a crox anymore.
I don't know where you got that photo.
Facebook is still the same Facebook.
And their earnings yesterday just proved it.
That's what we learned, Snackers.
The revenue, it jumped, but their profits, they fell.
Facebook is still an advertising company.
They serve up targeted ads to you just like Google.
Yeah, Keckos making that cake the other day.
I'm getting like Nutella ads right now.
Here's the problem, though.
Google's ads grew 50% faster than Facebook's did last quarter.
And that's key because Wall Street, they didn't,
like that. And so they disliked Facebook stock aggressively. The stock fell 20%. And Nick, I think this
trillion dollar company losing 20% might be the biggest lost value in one trading day ever for one
company. Yeah, this is one of those. They lost more value than like GM and four and like six car
companies combined. Yeah. One of those things. Yeah. Now, Snackers, here is the wild thing about Facebook right
now. They don't want you looking at the lag and growth in ads. Look at Oculus. Look at Oculus.
They're like a TikTok where they're pointing down.
We learned for the first time ever how many Oculus headsets Facebook sold.
And Jack, how many Oculus virtual reality headsets to Facebook sell?
Four million just over the holidays.
Yeah, that's good.
It seems okay.
Well, sorry Facebook, you are an ad company.
Four million awkward headsets is great.
But ads still made up 97% of Facebook's revenue last quarter.
So what Jack and I are thinking is meta is still Facebook, even though they sign their checks with the word meta.
So Jack, what's the takeaway for our buddies over at Facebook?
Metaverse is Facebook's ultimate change of the conversation.
Snackers, the Metaverse is a meta distraction because three huge problems are still
plaguing Facebook and those problems are trust, teams, and trolls.
On the trust side, meta officially sold off that whole crypto project they've been working on,
which is now called Diem.
Well, it made zero progress in over two years since Facebook announced this Libra crypto thing.
Libra got rebranded to Diem.
Facebook got rebranded to meta.
Who's keeping track?
Yeah, regulators, all they saw was, hey, Mark Zuckerberg is trying to get more powerful.
We're going to block that.
Another problem for Facebook that's still there, teens.
Yeah, teens.
They're on TikTok and Snapchat instead.
And teens are the leading indicators for social media trends.
And finally, who could forget the online trolls?
The trolls.
They post the intentional disinformation and they hope it spreads into misinformation on Facebook.
Meta wants us talking about the metaverse so that we're not talking about trust,
teens or trolls. Metaverse is a meta distraction.
For our third and final story, did you play Wordle today? Did you end up playing Wordle?
No, I forgot.
That's okay. It's not personal. I don't mind. I don't mind. We'll play to my. Snackers,
your next Wi-Fi, it could come from Elon Musk, of all people.
SpaceX Internet could help connect the unconnected, but it's actually priced for the super
connected. Okay, Jack, let me know if I'm wrong. But last time we discussed Elon Musk's
Starlink, I think we talked about cats.
That's right.
Cats were attracted to the warmth of these satellite dishes.
So they gathered in the dishes like they were a sofa during the cold weather.
It was kind of concerning.
It was like a cat-cult situation.
Well, funny thing, Starlink, they redesigned those satellite dishes and they're kind of like
anti-cat now.
They're flat now.
So cats can't sit on and move if they're wanted.
Yeah, no more cat naps.
Well, Starlink, the company with all these internet satellites, it's part of Elon Musk's
SpaceX.
But it's not the part of SpaceX that is trying to colonize Mars.
This is the part of SpaceX that's like just trying to get you some basic internet right down here on Earth.
But Starlink is probably SpaceX's future profit puppy.
Which is why Jack and I want to talk about hidden infrastructure.
It's all around us.
Snackers, there's a huge number of Americans, millions of households that don't have broadband internet.
That is hidden infrastructure.
It is the crucial and visible infrastructure that is literally surrounding us right now.
Because without high speed internet, you can't zoom,
reliably into work. And you can't have your kids remote schooling over a prime prep. Yeah,
no matter what Bezos says. Oh, and you can't play call of duty either if you don't have that
good internet. Can't watch Emily in Paris. But having broadband internet is a choice that you don't
make. Your cable provider makes that choice. And it's a financial decision. Yeah, Comcast isn't unise.
No. They're only laying fiber optic cable down your road in your neighborhood if they think they'll
make a profit off. So Starlink, they offer internet that doesn't depend on cable or internet service providers.
because they depend on space.
This is where the SpaceX part comes in,
because SpaceX has put 1,900 Starlink satellites up in space.
They're just running laps around planet Earth.
Starlink's website, they say it very clearly.
We are ideal for rural and remote communities.
Because Internet beams down from space wherever you are.
You just got to buy a Starlink antenna, stick it on your roof,
and boom, cat or not, you get web from space.
So Starlink is already out there.
145,000 households are using Starlink Wi-Fi across 25 countries.
They're paying $100 a month after they drop $500 for the hardware,
and they're getting this Elon Musk internet.
Here's the news.
Oh, does it give you a super tweeting power, by the way?
Here's the news.
Starlink just launched premium.
Premium.
Five times priceier for twice the speed of the standard edition.
Yeah, the typical Starlink internet, that's like 200 megabits per second.
This is up to five hondo.
Okay, with 500 megabits per second, you could upload a podcast episode, download every episode of the office,
warm your cat, and live stream call a duty.
Sounds like a fun Saturday.
So, Jack, what's the takeaway for our buddies over at Starlink?
This could go Tesla or could go Tiffany's.
$500 a month for Internet?
That's not priced for your single home.
That's priced for a second home.
Just like Elon did with Tesla's cars, this early Starlink service,
It's a premium product at a premium price.
Even the standard version's $100.
Right now, it's likely targeting the wealthy who are enjoying time on some remote ranch over in Montana, totally off the grid.
Starlink premium is for Larry, who loves skiing at Jackson Hole, but needs to race back to a chalet to upload the TPS report before the board meeting.
Just one more run.
But if Starlink can get the price down for this internet, then millions of more Americans could benefit with hidden infrastructure.
Tesla managed to get the price down.
It used to be $100,000 unaffordable.
car, now it's slightly more affordable at 35,000. And the Americans who lack broadband, they tend to be
among the rural poor. No Wi-Fi, that makes the situation worse. Right now, Starlink is priced
for second homes. We hope the price falls like Tesla's half. Instead of staying high, like Tiffany's jewelry.
Jack, can you whip up the takeaways for the new Friday over there? SeaWorld has offered to acquire
Cedar Fair for $3.4 billion. When the going gets tough, the tough get merging. For our second
meta stock plummeted on underperforming ad sales last quarter.
Because Metaverse is a meta distraction from Facebook's current three problems.
For our third and final story, Starlink just launched premium.
500 megabets for 500 bucks a month.
And we're thinking from here the price can either go Tesla.
Like down.
Or Tiffany's.
Stay really high.
Now time for our snack fact of the day.
This one sent in by Florian Bose from all the way over and right in the middle of the
Netherlands.
This is a snack fact about Heineken, the beer company, about some controversial Heineken beer stock.
A Dutch 50-year-old man claims he found his lost Heineken super share worth almost 8 million euros in the attic.
The super share was given to him by his mother for his 11th birthday.
However, Heineken refuses to pay because they think it was stolen.
Though he took Heineken to court, the judge deemed it improbable that the man could hold such a share,
as they were only given to professional traders, effectively denying him a hefty paycheck
and probably leaving him in need for a beer.
Heineken said this guy is six-packed, like, what are you doing?
Heineken, your choices were either have a Heineken superfan shareholder
or someone who hates Heineken.
Snackers, you look fantastic today.
If you haven't yet, click to follow us right here on Spotify or right here on Apple.
Nick and I, we'll see you tomorrow.
Cannot wait.
And before we go, happy breakfast.
birthday to Jocelyn over in the Bay Area. Will you be Pablo's Valentine, Jocelyn? Good birthday question,
too. And Adrian Schwartz, happy birthday while you're traveling 35,000 feet in the air right now.
Congratulations to Dennis McGowan, who just got a raise. Oh, and Jack, his fiance also recovered from
cancer, both of them celebrating some awesome wins. This next one's for Luke and Kate Club,
moving from Georgia to their dream city across the country. And EC Lee and David Liu,
Congrats on the four-year anniversary down in Tesla country, Fremont.
Happy birthday to Harry Nandong in Cooper Tino, California.
And American Ari just got engaged in Greece on Cat Island.
Sounds incredible.
And to anyone else celebrating something today, make it a tea boy.
Celebrate the wins.
This is Jack.
