Starting point is 00:00:01 This is Nick. This is Jack. And this is Snacks Daily. It is Tuesday. Tea Boy Tuesday, December 14th. We are sending some special snacks love to the Snackers in tornado struck parts of the country. Especially down in Kentucky. Snackers over in Kentucky, we did something a little special for you today. We made today's pod the best one year. This is the best snacks daily. Jack and I have ever created. Jack, first story. What's our TBOI? Pinterest just dropped their annual trend predictions for next year. Here's the thing. What's searched for today on Pinterest becomes right. real life tomorrow. For our second story, two weeks ago, we said we needed more data to talk more about Omicron. Well, we got more data. We got more data. Here's the deal. Booster shots, booster
Starting point is 00:00:41 profits, prepare for the booster economy. Oh, we did the math. The booster economy is a lucrative economy. For our third and final story, you already know. Elon Musk just became the seventh CEO to win Time Magazine's person of the year. Cars in space, they're booming in America and it's courtesy of Mr. Musk. But before we hit that wonderful mix, it's a fantastic mix. We have some important news. We do, Snackers. Holiday presents.
Starting point is 00:01:07 Jack and I got your back. We're looking out for you. You may be looking for, you know, two gifts combined into one super efficient gift for that special someone. How about a wine chocolate in one gift? Do you think? Oreo wine.
Starting point is 00:01:21 We repeat Oreos teamed up with barefoot winery for what they're calling a quote unquote new blend of red wine. It's not Cabernet. cookies. That is the key ingredient. What vintage is this? Oh, vintage delicious. It sounds like it was vented by a hangover. Jack, is it the grapes that ferment or is it the icing that ferments? Here's the thought behind this brilliant idea. Red wine and chocolate go well together, right? I'm following you. So why not combine them into one thing? Yeah, which if you think about it, it kind of works. Except it completely doesn't work. It doesn't really work. For example, how about tacos and beer?
Starting point is 00:01:54 Great combo, delicious combo, fantastic combo. But Corona's not whipping out guacamole flavored pale ale. No, they're not. Jack, let's go to the breakfast table. Coffee and donuts. Again, classic combo. Everyone loves that combo. As far as we know, though, Darlina Dunkin' Donuts isn't serving glazed cappuccinos. Oh, wait. Jack. Is she actually? Which you probably should. I've got the early reviews in for the red Oreo wine. You ready to hear this, Jack? Mm-hmm. Okay, there are hints of oak with notes of questionable. Oreo's wine is neck-and-neck with Reese's Thanksgiving pie for holiday sugar gimmick of the year. Snackers, here's the takeaway. It's not the gift. It's the thought that counts.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Even if the thought is a sandwich cookie alcohol. Let's hit our three velvety stories. You're tuned in the snacks daily. We spoke to the lawyers and we got to get something legal out the way. The snacks about to hear ain't food. It's air candy. They don't reflect the views of the robberhood family. It's all informational just so. You know, we're not recommending any securities. It's not a research report or investment advice. Not an offer or sale of a security. Right.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Snacks is digestible. Business news for you. Robberhood Financial, LLC, member Fenra slash SIPC. For our first story, Elon Musk just got Time Person of the Year. He's getting his own magazine cover. As Time Magazine puts it, this was the year of Elon Unbound. So there are a lot of things you can stick up on your fridge. Your mom's going to love sticking an entire Time magazine up on her fridge.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Elon Musk is the 2021 Time Magazine person of the year. Okay, now Jack and I should clarify this. This is not the best human in the world trophy. This is not like the second coming of Oprah award. This is different. No, a number of war criminals have been person of the year. Stalin's won it and Hitler's won. So have Nobel Peace Prize winners, though. MLK has won it. And Jack, FDR, Franklin, Eleanor Roosevelt got this three times, not one, not twice. In 2017, a bunch of people won it. The women who started the Me Too movement. And then sometimes, like, not even a human being at all wins this time magazine award. One year you won it.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Back in 1982. No, no, no. In 2006, it was you. It was the creators on, like, the internet. Back in 1982, the winner of person of the year was a computer, an inanimate object. So person of the year is the person or thing with the biggest impact, the largest influence, the biggest newsmaker of that year. But here's the funny thing Jack and I noticed when we went back on the century of like award winners here. CEOs, they've got a pretty low presence in the time person of the year.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Only seven times. First, it was in 1928 and then 1955 when the CEOs of Chrysler and GM. Then it was 1991. Ted Turner won time person of the year for creating a 24-hour news network. CNN. And then Intel CEO got it in 1997 when every dude was getting a Dell. And then in 1999, Jeff Bezos won it for Amazon. And then Jack Mark Zuckerberg sucked Bezos.
Starting point is 00:04:50 And he won the award in 2010 for Facebook. Elon's getting it this time because he's a double CEO. a poly visionary, a Twitter meme lord, and has two crazy side hustles. Right now, Elon is leading the biggest electric vehicle company in the world. Tesla. And he's leading the most valuable startup in America. SpaceX. This year, he became the richest person on Earth.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Oh, and he hosted SNF for the first time. He's trying to save the world. He's pioneering outer space. And the guy live tweets his poops. Oh, he's a big fan of crypto. Yeah, this year, he decided not to be, you know, casual about it. The guy tweets blockchain. Like, Bitcoin market changes by a couple.
Starting point is 00:05:26 couple 10 or 20 billion. Today he believes the internet's going to come from satellites and that we're going to live on Mars. Oh, and that we can control things with our minds. He's working on that too. Yeah, that last one. One of his two side hustles is Neurrelink, which is like controlling computers with your brains, I think. Yeah, it's just, you know, a casual wire that turns you into a computer. So based on his track record with Tesla, these other things that Elon's working on, they're probably going to be real in like 10 years. His mind seems to work on another level. So, Jack, what's the takeaway for our buddy Elon who never asked us to give him a birthday shout-out? Two major industries were declining in the U.S. space and cars.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Elon saved both. Snackers, the reusable rocket, that is something that NASA has never figured out in its like history of going to space. Well, Elon SpaceX did figure it out. And the reusable rocket makes space travel exponentially more efficient. Today, Elon SpaceX has a $3 billion contract with NASA and it hidden $100 billion dollar valuation. Nick, electric cars is something Detroit didn't seem to want to figure out. Well, Tesla was almost bankrupt two years ago, but Elon persisted. Today, Tesla is a booming $1 trillion sustainable energy company. Here's the thing, Snackers. After decades of declines,
Starting point is 00:06:40 today America leads both in cars and in space again. And Elon is employing over 100,000 people to make America number one in those two things. Now, Elon's companies are facing a handful of workplace lawsuits. And half his tweets, feel like they're about 420 and 69. Or they're just mean. But you got to give you a lot of credit. He resurrected two American industries. For our second story, Pinterest, just released its annual trend predictions for 2022.
Starting point is 00:07:07 They're here. Pinterest's greatest strength is actually a muscle that it hasn't controlled yet. Okay, get this Snackers. Funny thing Jack and I have noticed about social media. There is an interesting divide between all the social media companies. For example, some are just for posting. Like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit. Other social media companies are just for watching.
Starting point is 00:07:28 YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, less posting, more watching. You scroll them all them. Exactly. But Pinterest primary action is searching. You tell Pinterest what you want to see. Pinterest has 400 million users telling it what they want to see. So Pinterest knows a lot of our desires. All of them.
Starting point is 00:07:49 They know what you're wanting. So before you like see a visual trend in the real world, it began as a search on Pinterest. Somebody probably searched for it on Pinterest before you saw it in real life. The middle hair part. It was a search on Pinterest before it became the haircut. That's why we focus and are so interested by Pinterest's annual prediction report. And get this, Snackers. Pinterest says that 80% of its 35 predictions from last year were right. They were trending this year.
Starting point is 00:08:14 So here's what Jack and I find fascinating when we jump into the Pinterest annual trends report. Pinterest positions these 2022 not yet trends as something you should know, the consumer. But we think it's interesting because businesses should know them too. For example, 2022, Pinterest expects the rise of bar architecture. Bar architecture. Architecture. I can't say that without laughing. It combines the pet adoption trend with the house hype trend into pet first furniture.
Starting point is 00:08:42 How about an ottoman for your cockapoo? We're talking fancy pet first furniture. For example, searches for luxury cat room. quadrupled on Pinterest last year. We think Restoration Hardware and Chewy should do a collab in anticipation of this. Oh, and it's not just your pet hardware snackers. A second trend that Pinterest is predicting for next year, night travel. It's Gen Z-driven.
Starting point is 00:09:02 It's basically tourism in the dark when crowds are smaller. So you can actually see the thing you want to go see. For instance, searches for London at night have doubled over on Pinterest. I meant so you can see it because there aren't crowds, but actually it's dark out. so maybe you can't see it. Which is what's so ironic about this fantastic trend. Oh, also night beaches, those doubled on Pinterest too last year.
Starting point is 00:09:24 So for business, Shake Shack should have late night food available for these late night tourists. You got to have them, Shachak. You got to keep the restaurants open longer if people are going to be out touring at night. And Airbnb, they should start like night tours of the Grand Canyon when there's enough moonlight. And maybe our favorite Pinterest prediction for next year, Alt-Bashes, the rise of the alt-bash. It doesn't just take a birthday to Warren. a celebration. Why are you waiting for the 31st? Searches for divorce party went up 55%. Breakup cake? Searches doubled the bet. I never heard of this, but apparently empty nest photo shoots are up 40% on
Starting point is 00:10:01 Pinterest. What even is that? If people are looking to celebrate getting divorced or anything, Delta should suggest breakup trips. There we go. Like forgetting Sarah Marshall, but like hopefully you don't bump into your ex. Okay, fashion industry, maybe you jump into these alt bashes too. Offer discounts to the recently divorced. help them look good and feel good, and they'll become loyal customers. Go to the Caribbean 20% off if it wasn't you, it was me. Actually, Jack, the weirdest prediction may have been the tooth gem thing. Did you see the tooth gem thing?
Starting point is 00:10:30 Oh, yeah, be jewel. You're going to have diamonds on your front teeth next year. So, Jack, what's the takeaway for our buddies over at Pinterest? Pinterest's greatest strength is a muscle. It can't control yet. Snackers, Pinterest knows so much because of your searches on Pinterest. And honestly, Google and Amazon do too. True. Google and Amazon probably know more than Pinterest.
Starting point is 00:10:48 They do. But they're less likely to promote trends like this because they're big tech and people have data concerns. Pinterest, though, it's like middle tech. It's got a less controversial reputation. It's uniquely positioned to capitalize on trend prediction because Pinterest is just charming. It doesn't seem like they are, though, because 100% of their revenue is still just ads. And its user growth is slowing. So here's what Jack and I are thinking. What if Pinterest added a subscription to access all this deep consumer? trend reporting like we just told you. We bet Nike, Target, KFC, even a social media influencer might be willing to pay for that crystal ball that Pinterest possesses. Or Jack, how about this? What if Pinterest used its furniture data to launch its own home goods line? It knows what's going to be trending. That's what Amazon does with Amazon basics. So Pinterest trend insights,
Starting point is 00:11:36 those are its greatest strength. But it's a muscle. It hasn't learned to control yet. For our third and final story, we just got more data on the Omicron variant. It's mixed news for humankind. Great news for Pfizer and Moderna. It is. We just did the math on the booster economy. Now, Snackers, last time we covered Omicron. Honestly, Jack, like, we're looking at the whiteboard here.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Not enough data to do a full picture. It was November 30th. It's been two weeks since. Here's what we now know. Well, Omicron's here, Snackers. Confirmed in 32 states, probably in all the states right now. just not confirmed yet. And as Dr. Fauci predicted, this is going to be the dominant variant. Okay, so here's why it's going to become the dominant variant because it's more contagious.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Now, the good news is it's probably not more severe than the Delta or previous variants. Which is a good feeling. So it's easier to get, but it's reportedly not as bad if you do get the Omicron variant. Now, two weeks ago, we mentioned Bill Ackman, the activist investor, who had a bullish theory that Omacron could actually boost stock markets. This was a little counterintuitive, but here was the idea. If the pandemic was replaced by a less severe version of the virus, the Omicron variant, then there'd be less damage. Then we get back to normal faster. And it appears that could still happen based on what we know so far. But Omicron's still a virus. You're still going to need vaccines. So here's what we're thinking. Prepare for the year of the booster. Multiple studies have come in the
Starting point is 00:12:58 past couple of weeks showing that specifically booster shots perform well against the Omicron variant. Pfizer researchers, Israeli researchers, South African researchers, they're all saying now that without a booster, it may be vulnerable to Omicron. But with a booster, an MRI booster from Pfizer, you're well protected, these reports say, even from the Omicron variant. That is the new news on the Omicron variance. So now there's two bits of guidance. The first is the same as always.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Yeah, if you're unvaccinated, get vaccinated. Here's the new guidance. If you're vaccinated already, get boosted. That's how you protect yourself from Omicron. So it's not just the year of the booster. It's actually kind of the years of the booster. So, Jack, what's the takeaway for our buddies who are making all the vaccines? The mRNA vaccine is a miracle and it could be a profit puppy that could live forever.
Starting point is 00:13:47 So Time Magazine, they also recognized the vaccine scientists as heroes of the year. Those vaccine scientists took decades of preparation with mRNA vaccines and delivered us the COVID-MRNA vaccine. Right, when we needed it. And that vaccine formula, it isn't just a virus protector. It also could be a profit maker forever. Just like the annual flu shot, the booster shot could become an annual routine. Jack, there's nothing companies like more than the word routine. Because for Pfizer, 53% of revenues last quarter was just the one product, the COVID vaccine.
Starting point is 00:14:23 We're talking $15 billion of Pfizer sales in three months. We're COVID vaccines. So that's $60 billion of annual sales. And the booster could become a $60 billion annual tradition. It's like four lifts. Dr. Fauci said on Sunday, it's tough to tell if COVID boosters will become an annual tradition we have to get every year. But if they do, then Pfizer and Medina's pandemic profit puppies won't be a one-hit wonder. Those MRNA companies could make billions of vaccine profits every year.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Billions. With their ageless profit puppy. Jack, can you pour us a decanter of Oreo red wine and whip up the takeaways for us over there? Elon is 2021's Time Magazine Person of the Year. Because Elon reinvigorated two dying American industries. Maybe that's too harsh, slowing American industries. It was a lot. It was a lot.
Starting point is 00:15:14 For our second story, Pinterest saw trends this year that you'll see next year. Predictions. That's Pinterest strongest muscle, but it does know how to use it yet. For our third and final story, Pfizer and Moderna scientists were named Heroes of the Year by Time magazine. And the COVID booster could become an annual tradition and a serious profit puppy. Now, time for our snack fact of the day. This one's sent in by Will Mayer from lovely Burlington, Vermont. Jack, you're going to love this snack.
Starting point is 00:15:41 All right, I'm listening now. Hey, snackers. Have you ever wondered what the deal is with the crow hanging around inside the bank throughout the film? It's a Wonderful Life. Yeah. This bird is actually named Jimmy the Raven, and he appeared in over 25 movies between the 30s and 50s, with his most notable appearance being when he lands on the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. Have a great day and keep on snacking.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Do you know the crow he's talking about? I didn't remember the crow. I do. You watch this like every year. It's an Easter egg. It's the first Easter egg. It's a 1946 Easter egg. There's nothing Jack likes more than having you come over.
Starting point is 00:16:13 He's going to bake you some cookies, baby some lasagna, and he's going to wrap you in like a snuggy-sized turtleneck. So you can be comfortable and watch this movie. A couple corrections. Christmas 2018, you did come over. I did. We baked spaghetti meatballs. And the blanket was a Vermont flannel neck. And we watched, it's a wonderful life.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Which is Vermont's favorite Christmas movie. It's the only state that said, it's a wonderful life. That's another snack bag. Nothing Vermont likes more than a good old black and white classic. Snackers, you look fantastic today. If you haven't yet, drop down and give us a five-star rating and review. We love that and it helps us get discovered. Drop down and give me five.
Starting point is 00:16:55 That's how we grow the pot. Jack, let's do this tomorrow. We'll see you tomorrow. Can't wait. And before we go, good luck to all the snackers taking final exams over the next two weeks. The answer is probably safe. Happy birthday, Dan Katz, from the Bronx, Manhattan, and now from Brooklyn. Oh, is this the Dan Katz?
Starting point is 00:17:13 That's the Dan Katz. It's his birthday. Let me tell you, Dan Katz, huge cookie wine fan. And happy birthday to Kelly Fitzgerald, who's also shipping out to the Air Force Basic Training Regiment over in St. Pete's Florida. Happy 30th to Evan DJ Big Fax, Joseph from Columbus, Ohio. And Chelsea is turning 30 and has a one-year workovertery over in Rockford, Illinois. Happy birthday to Karen McCekker and Livermore. Oh, and Jack, Corinne Bellick and the whole ally.
Starting point is 00:17:38 AI team, they just got acquired the whole company by Microsoft. Not too shabby. Cash for stock. Answer, both. Congrats to Robert Barclay for getting a new gig in Destin, Florida. And Moises Flores, enjoy wrapping up that first semester at USC. Congrats to Jesse, who just got into the University of Michigan Law School, the most beautiful old collegiate buildings this side of the Atlantic.
Starting point is 00:18:01 And Jason Buzzheart is great. graduating cum laude from the University of South Carolina. And anybody else celebrated something today. Whatever university you just got into, make it a T-B. Celebrate the wins. This is Jack. Nick and I both on stock of Airbnb. We both own Bitcoin. Nick owned stock of ShakeShack and I own stock of Amazon.
