Breaking news was Arkansas fired their coach. It's crazy. I'm glad I didn't go to the game. When did that happen? What? The firing. Sunday. Sunday. Yeah. Sunday, like in the first hour of the NFL games because me being the husband that I am,

I told my wife, because I watched all football. I watched that Virginia game. Was that Thursday or Friday night? Okay, so I watched a lot of that game. Watched football all day Saturday. And then I knew I was going to watch a lot Sunday, which is obvious. And she was like, hey, what part of the day? can we go like to the mall and go and i was like can we go in the morning sunday

thing about sunday mornings nothing's open sunday mornings nothing opens until noon yeah smart what what smart you said you said well i'm open in the morning no dumb so it's like she's like well i only got you in the morning when everything's closed oh dumb because it was i needed to be there when it opened oh so we did some stuff from like 12 to 1 30 which i didn't only care about because kind of a crappy slate of games, at least on the surface. And even the games that ended up being pretty good. Really, who cares?

So we went to the mall, and while we were at the mall, shopping for all kinds of crap, and we had lunch, and then I'd get my phone up, and it's like Sam Pittman fired. So it had to be in that window, but yeah, I saw it on Twitter.

I knew it was going to happen. Yeah. I was told by a couple people before the game that there were going to be some changes regardless of what happened after the Notre Dame game. If we would have won,

I think they'd probably, would have changed a coordinator or so. If we would have lost, maybe a coordinator, but because we got beat so bad, it was you got to go and move off the coach. So they cut them. It sucks to see somebody lose their job. And the more adult I get,

the more I hate to see someone lose their job, but it was time for that job to switch. And so we'll talk about it later. That's a good point, because when you're younger, you're just like, fire him. Yes. And you have a personal relationship with the guy.

You can't help but have that at least conflicted a little bit. I don't know. It's like the worst he got, the more I didn't have a relationship. You're like, haven't seen him in a few years. Mostly because we weren't like close friends anyway. And there really weren't a lot of instances that I'd reach out to be like, hey, this is going good. Congratulations. So there wasn't a reason to reach out. That's true.

I called him once. He called me once. I was looking at buying a house on Hot Springs. I think we talked about that. Go to the game. to see him a little bit, but then it just went downhill. When do you think he kind of had the idea that he was getting fired? Well, I think last year for a while.

Okay, but then that went away. I think the Tennessee win last year was so big for the program that that allowed him to keep his job. I think when Memphis happened. But like half time of the Notre Dame game, he had to be in there like, damn. This is my last half. I'm done. I think after Memphis, he knew this was going to be his last year. I think at Notre Dame half

he knew this is probably going to be his last game especially going into the bye week That sucks So yeah, it was a crazy weekend I won't even say bad It's embarrassing to get beat that bad on national television But I think We kind of needed that to go ahead and tear off the band-aid

What's crazy is And it's probably not as crazy From the outside looking in But the fact that Bobby Petrino is our head coach again Is wild considering When he went out like it was like a flame, a fireball on its way out because he wrecked the freaking motorcycle, finger quotes.

There was a whole situation where he was... A girl. Yeah, he paid somebody to work for... It was a whole thing. I just picture him in a neck brace. Every time we bring this up, I just picture him in the neck brace. Maybe like a boot, a cast in the leg. Just standing there in that neck brace.

And people that worked for him talk about how terrible he was to work for. Now, he won games. He won 11. He won 10. He won a lot of games. and I don't work for you. Just win. Yeah.

Just win. And if they don't want to work for you, they don't have to. But it's bizarre that he's the head coach again. I think there's almost no chance he keeps that job after this year. I think he's going to need to win six or seven games, unwinnable games. You got a tough schedule coming out? Yeah.

I mean, it's awful. We go to Tennessee in two weeks. That'll be his first game. I was thinking about going over and just watching it, you know. A little hopping in. skip two hours away. A little Bobby for Bobby. Here we go.

Let's get it. One Bobby for another Bobby. Now, can you watch the rest of the season kind of like, hey, whatever happens happens? I can watch the rest of the season just purely rooting without wondering what happens if it doesn't go right. That's good. Because I was rooting for us hard, but at the same time, I'm going about halftime. Man, if we don't put up a fight, it's over. We're just going to turn the page and I think it'd be best for everybody to turn the page.

Yeah. Yeah. So it's weird. It's weird when you know the people. are getting fired. It's weird when you know the people that are doing the firing. So it's weird when you're giving money to the place

that's doing the firing because they suck and didn't use your money right. I can't imagine what that feels like. But I'm not even the whales. I'm not even the big tunas. Like I am. But still it's money, man. And like you give it to an organization

to do something good with it. I've given hundreds of thousands of dollars in the past few years. Jesus. Hundreds of thousands of dollars. in the past few years. That hurts. And I think that makes you more sensitive about it

because you're like, I'm paying this in. And I don't really use it for anything. If we were good, I'd want to have access and be up there. But when we suck, like they called before the Notre Dame game, I'll just say they.

They called and they said, hey, you still want your sweet tickets. And I said, that's an interesting question. For the weekend? For that game. Okay. And I was like,

I said, why? Like, you've never called before asking. And they say, yeah, everybody's backing out. Oh, wow. And I said, you know, my wife, and Caitlin's pregnant, and she's not really wanting to fly. And I was like, you know, that's a perfect excuse. So I said, I said, we're going to hang back. You're already catching up.

Personal reasons. Yes. We're going to hang back. They knew it wasn't personal reasons. But that did influence it. Good thing you didn't go, man. Yeah, but here we are. We're actually recording this on late Sunday

because I got a flight I got to catch quickly after the show Monday to get to New York. So we're actually fresh after the NFL games. We can go roll through some notes here. I have written notes, random notes, and let us go through them. Number one, our WTF parlay.

It did not hit. We did not expect it to hit. Yeah. It was over immediately on Saturday. We never said WTF. Yeah. It just went away. I told you,

Don't bet this. So the WTF parlay of Arkansas winning and the Cowboys winning, at the time we're recording this, we have no idea what the Cowboys did. They probably want. You think so? No. I really don't think so. It was an odd day.

I mean, look at the Giants. Yeah, the Giants win. The Chargers. The Bill's a close game. Saints making it a weird close game. Yeah, weird close games, though. That happens all the time. Yeah.

The actual, actually seeing a team lose. I was surprised to see the Chargers, undefeated, lose to the Giants. Jackson Dart looked pretty good. He ran the ball a lot at the beginning of the game. And then he gets his bell rung. Yes. And it's like, yeah, if you run with a guy 11 times that early,

and he came back, and they ended up winning the game. Yeah, and he's a guy that when he runs, even in college, especially, he doesn't go down easily. And he goes head first. Yeah, and you're like, dude, you got to chill. Yeah. Got a chill. Different game.

Yeah. I didn't see him wearing as many jewels, although I didn't see a lot of close-ups. Oh, I saw it. When he scored that touchdown, he started doing a dance. All I see is a necklace bouncing up and down and up and down. I was watching on my phone. My wife was cool enough. We were having dinner at the Nordstrom Cafe.

And we go up and she was like, you can watch Red Zone. Oh, that's cool. While we're having lunch. And I was like, well, I wanted to be delicious. I don't give a crap. Watch the games. And so she goes, I'll watch it with you. She's very much a college football person, not really an NFL person.

Yeah. But the Oklahoma Bowl was happening. And so she was watching Jaylen Hertz and Baker Mayfield play each other. And that was one of the games they kept going back to. Yeah, that was a great game. That was a good game. Yeah, Bucks came back and fought, man. I know. She couldn't pull it out this time.

They couldn't pull it out. We have money on that. This time. But next time, watch out. Next time. Real quick, the Giants, though, neighbors will see that. Yeah, towards ACL. How do they know so quick that he, I mean, I, you see him grab his knee, you see what happens, you expect that to happen.

Then come out real quick and be like, yeah, confirm. How quick was it? Because, again, I would say 30 minutes. I saw the notification like an hour or two after. They know five. minutes. They can feel it. After they get it under, they know in five minutes. Okay. I didn't know they need an MRI to like confirm. Yeah. Well, I know the Achilles, because players have talked about in the past, like, they felt it and they're like, yeah, it's done.

Who tore their Achilles recently? It just happened and they went down. Because when you said that, something came to my mind. Recent, recent, I mean, Tatum pops in my head, but that was six months ago now. No, this is like in the past few days. He tore his Achilles and he goes down and they're like, oh, Naji Harris, maybe? That's who it was. He tore his last weekend. Last week. Yeah. And he went down and immediately

because he picked his foot up. It was like, yeah, that's it. That's what I'm so afraid of doing anything now. Oh, just bending over to pick something up. It's protecting my Achilles because that is the bad one. We see it all the time, too. Well, and then we're older too. And then you see people doing it playing pickleball, like just little things.

Golfing. Golfing, dumb stuff like that. You're like, why? Our friend of Maude stepped off a curb. That's it. Shut up. No, seriously. He is all muscles.

Great shape. ripped, stepped off a curb wrong, pop his Achilles. And he was on crutches for nine months. It felt like forever. Another note I have, speaking of that Eagles game, the Eagles fake tush push everybody off. They ran basically a counter that was okay,

let's get up to the line, and they handed a Sequin around the edge. Nobody was near him. And so if you have to watch for the counters, if you have to watch for anything other than the tush push, you're not going to stop the tush push because you need everybody, to get down, dive bomb that for a chance, and you're not even going to stop it then. So it's over.

They were waiting for that. Yeah. They knew it was going to work as soon as they drew it up. Let's run the Tush Push counter. Sequin jogged in. It had to be like a trolling move. Slightly, right? With Siriani.

Like, you guys are so mad about the Tush Push? Here you go. Take this. We're not doing it. Yeah. Another. That shovel pass is so cool, too. Like, how they get away.

They do that shovel pass to the tight end. From the push push? Yeah, I just don't know how you stop that as a defense. It's just with the Eagles, it's so hard because, like, they got Sequin, they have hurts, and then you got the passing game, but no, then you have a tight end that they're going to shove it to. I watch the Virginia Florida State game on Friday night. No, not all of it, the end of it. I'm not going to act like I was so dialed in that I watched all of it because I didn't. But I watched probably three quarters of the fourth quarter.

And then the clip has just been played 10,000 times of that field storming. Yeah. It's the quickest fieldstorming. I've ever seen. That was insane. It's almost like they were loading up on the side before it even happened because they were. They were. They were loading up on the back of the inside.

Yeah, that's it. That's it. Yeah. And like before you even saw whether you caught it or not, they were already going. There's no, there was no barrier either. The receiver was still on the ground when they ran in. Yeah. That was awesome.

It was great. Luckily, there was no flag because it was an incomplete pass. And luckily there was no flag anywhere because there could have been a flag. There could have been like a defensive holding on the other side of the field. Yeah. Nothing. They'd had to do like Arizona State did last year. everybody get off the field after they had rushed the field, run another play.

Once I remember seeing Kentucky rush the field, jump on the field goal post, and then they end up losing the game. Is that LSU? Yeah. Right? Yeah. Yeah. I remember that.

The kids have to stop with a flipping off, though. I was going to say, I was annoyed by looking like that. Me too. I was like, come on, man. Explain why you say that. Well, you just see like, I mean, guys, guys, girls, everyone. And I saw it live. I don't know what picture you guys are talking about.

But when it happened, they would cut away really. really quick when they saw, but kids were just running up to the, you know, the Florida state players is just flipping them off right in front of their face mask. There was one picture that was going viral of a guy holding his phone up, taking a video of a Florida State player while flipping them off with the other hand. Yeah. It's just like, and you want them to do nothing? Yeah, you can't do anything back, but if they do, you're like, ah, you kind of deserve it.

Like, I understand why you would feel the need. You can't do it. You got to be bigger than that. if you lose. But they're triggered because they lost. They lost it the last... I mean, they didn't lose on the last play. They had to actually make that catch.

So it wasn't like they were up and lost. But still, you can't... It's also some guy that could have never played football. Right. It's also some ultimate loser that never would do that in that same situation anywhere other than right then and there where they were protected.

And he wants to go viral. That's why he's doing that. What a wimp? We hate you, dude. We don't like you. We don't like. Just watch the blunt, LeGarrette Blunt punch and do it.

But Oregon. Then do it. Yep. Okay. Let's see. I wrote, missed the first half of the first games at the mall. I prefer long shorts. That's your note.

But here's why I wrote that. Has nothing to do with football. I was missing the games, which I was happy to do. And we went in to Lulu Lemon because my wife wanted to get some pants or something. And she's like, I like it when you wear those shorts instead of the ones that you wear. and they're like they're like not even halfway through the quad.

You were trying them on? No, they're just on the mannequin. Oh, okay. And just the legs. It's not even like full mannequin with the full body. She's like, I like it when you wear those short shorts. And I don't think she does.

I think she just hates it when I wear my 90s Church League basketball. Because every pair of shorts I have is that if it's not a pair of dress shorts. They all go down to my knees. It's, you know, Chris Weber. It's that. and so I wrote that as a note.

It's a thing now, though. It's like a fashion. It's popular. I have some. And I wear them occasionally and I feel like my balls are coming out of it. Right. I'll wear them around the house,

but out in public, I'm like, I don't know if I can do this. Are they workout shorts? Yes. They're workout shorts. You can hang out if you want. Because I have like these nice shorts that are like too high.

And I feel like my nuts are hanging out of those. And like, I don't know. Oh, man. They just don't feel comfortable. I don't think anybody wants to see that much of our leg. But maybe our wife's I don't even think it's that they want to see our leg. I think it's just the style of the short.

Otherwise, it looks extremely dated. The baggy shorts will make a comeback. Everything does. I know. Right? But then they're going to go out of style again if we're using that logic. Everything does. The Steelers backup quarterback, Skyler Thompson, got jumped and robbed in Dublin.

They didn't say much else. Dangerous out there. I've been to Dublin. Is it rough out there? Everybody's drunk. But, I mean, you read it a little. headline like that you're thinking like whoa do not walk the streets of dublin exactly at night i don't know what time he was out but you're exactly right everybody's drunk yeah and i think of peeky blinders yeah like

everybody's peeky blinders after like 11 o'clock if you're walking it's night time you're in dublin a bunch of drunk irish dudes is that peeky blinders i don't know if they're irish not that's what i think they're english but close enough yeah yeah yeah yeah we never seen it no it's like a white gang okay yeah and he's on i r so he was probably drinking because he's not playing right now And he stayed. Yeah. He stayed with the team. Yeah.

So he's hanging out. So you get robbed? Is that what it said? Yeah. Jumped and robbed. That sucks too. If you're like a professional athlete to have to go back and tell your boys that you got jumped and robbed. You're an athlete, man.

You're tough. Like be Superman. Like beat them up. You're the 0.001% over here in America. I wouldn't make up those 10 guys though. Yeah. They all had guns. She'd seen the other nine.

You know what I mean? Yeah. So saw that. The Oregon Penn State game was good. Awesome. Yeah, it was good. I watched all of that flipping back and forth between the Alabama Georgia game.

Yes, those are the two. That was a weird game. I picked Georgia. Our parlay did not hit because I had Georgia winning. The other games hit. So that's on me. But I was rooting for Alabama. I think Canada was a good coach.

I've been saying it even with all the losing. I think he's a good coach. And the lady who wanted to buy a, out his contract with the Powerball. I thought about her. What would you do with $800 million? I buy out Kalin DeBore's contract. That's right. So. Ty Simpson's legit. Yeah, he's good. He throws a beautiful football. He can run too. And you know, he only won the quarterback competition and like right before

the season started. Yeah. And he lost it to Milro, what, two years ago or last year, whenever that was. And stayed. Yeah, which is unheard of. Love somebody that stays. It's like Nussmeyer at LSU. Like he stayed. He backed up Jane Daniels for two years. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So I love somebody that stays, although Nussmeyer, ah. I think he's hurt. There's got to be something up there. I think he's hurt. Because they can't put up 20 points even.

I think he's hurt. It was fun to see Lane Kiff and win that game. It wasn't about Hemmingway, so it was an Ole Miss home game. But the fact that Lane's daughter is dating Whitweaks, the linebacker, who I know from the Netflix series. Same. You like them? I mean, I like them. I like him.

I like his brothers, too. His whole family, his dad. All three of his brothers play for LSU right now. Yeah. And so to see that Lane Kim, Kevin's daughter's dating the LSU guy. Weird that Lane Kiffin said before the game, take the over, like they were going to score a bunch of points.

Even just insinuating gambling talk is hilarious from a head coach. Yeah, you can't do that. And then afterward, he did it again after they won the game. So that's fun. It was a fun college football weekend through the first noon games of the NFL. It's kind of a boring NFL first round. I loved it. Yeah, because the Patriots won.

Put a whooping on. Massacred. I haven't seen a game like that since that TB-20. 12 guys back there. It didn't start good. Oh, I almost texted you guys. Like, oh, no, it's going to be a long day again. Hey, no text thread today.

I know. I think it's because we knew we were going to be hanging out. Oh, no, no, no. That was just me, I guess. Oh, you were at lunch, is what it was. I was at lunch, the first part. And then everything was going good in the Patriots game. So I don't need to text anything about that.

And the other game that we were caring about was the Eagles and the Bucs. And I just didn't want to waste a, hey, there's no way Baker can do this again. I know. Because I really didn't think he would. In the last two weeks, I thought maybe he can because there's plenty of time. I didn't think he could.

And when they were like, you know, milking it down to like six seconds, I was like, I'm just going to let this one go. Yeah. He tried. But they were down big. I mean, I think it was 24-3 maybe at one point. They had their shot too.

His latest article was about the University of Arkansas and having to move on from Sam Pittman. So here he is National College Football Insider, Brandon Marcello. All right, Brandon Marcello is on with us. let's start because it's close to my heart and also you were at the game. When did you first hear that Sam Pittman was fired? About when everybody else did,

I was actually on the phone with someone that was in the dark like me and I was wondering if they had a job still in that building and that's when the news broke. I'm kind of told that I guess it went out to the public about the same time the staffers found out just about the same time at Arkansas. But yesterday or on Saturday, I should say,

it became pretty clear that something was going to happen one way or another, whether there's going to be some staff changes or a head coach. And, you know, as I had been reporting since the week before last, the idea that the buyout for him and dropping after a few more losses, that being an issue, I was told that wasn't going to be an issue if things got bad enough. and losing by 43 points at home was certainly bad enough. I made the last minute call not to go to that game. Would you say that was a good call?

Yeah, man. I've been to a few games there where it empties out. It's a blowout or whatever. I've been to several or two under Pittman where it's been like that. The Missouri game, I think last year, or maybe a couple of years ago, I can't remember which. And it was like 10, 15,000 Missouri fans still in the stadium. and it was kind of, you're just like, wow, what is this? And then yesterday, Saturday was just about as bare as I've seen it late in the fourth quarter.

I mean, I heard player parents yelling at the coaches, you know. It was like watching a pee-wee game, like, hey, put the backups in. I mean, player parents. It was, it's not what you expect from an SEC football team. Yeah, it sucked. But at least the team, the program can move forward. Now Bobby Petrino, I never thought I'd see the day that he was the head coach again. He is the interim head coach. Does he have any shot at retaining that job?

He'd have to do something pretty miraculous. I mean, you look at the schedule, five of the last seven opponents are all ranked. And the other two have a combined record of seven and three right now. So even the teams that aren't ranked, Mississippi State and Auburn, are pretty good. So considering how badly this defense has been playing and the things I've heard about just the locker room atmosphere right now and kind of it's a bunch of new faces and maybe they're just not kind of all holding on to the rope at the same time the same way. It would be the miracle of miracles if they were to somehow get out of that to a situation where Arkansas is talking about, you know, an eight-win season. I think it had to take something like that for Petrino to even be considered for the full-time gig. Considering his past, he's been given second chance after second chance, like practically everywhere. I mean, remember, he went to Louisville twice.

He's been to Arkansas twice. He got back into coaching by starting back off at Missouri State and working his way up to Western Kentucky, then Louisville. And I think, to me, Bobby, I don't know about you. Bobby Petrino needs to approach this opportunity as a moment to walk into the sunset with his head held high for the first time. We all know how it ended at Arkansas back in 2011. I don't think we've ever seen a second opportunity like this, and he's not going to erase the past. But represent the program well, do well by yourself and the players, take care of everybody around you, and go maybe go win a couple of games

and show some passion and talk about how important the state is to you and getting this opportunity and you'll be able to leave when this is all over with and be able to say, I never thought I get my second chance than I did and I feel like I did it the right way.

Let me throw a few coaches out of you and you tell me if you think there's any shot that Arkansas lands the coach. Rhett Lashley at SMU. Yeah, there's a chance. He's in a better spot right now at SMU financially because the NIL backing all that stuff of the revenue sharing.

But if Arkansas can get its ducks in a row and throw some support behind him and show, here's our plan. Here's our NIL plan. This is how much money you can get to work with. This is the structure we're going to provide to you. Because right now, not to say it's in shambles, but it's not very good at Arkansas.

They need to get everything put together for that to pitch it to him. And then tug on his heartstrings. He's an Arkansas guy, grew up in Springdale. You know, I've known him forever. He has tons of pictures of himself dressed up in razorback gear. I remember him telling me stories about going to go see. Ken Hatfield, the former Arkansas coach, being excited just to go somewhere to go see him and shake his hand and get to meet him and talk about becoming a head coach someday.

And his dream was to be the head coach at Arkansas someday. But times change, people change. And he's in a very good spot at SMU. I think it would take quite a bit of commitment on Arkansas part to. entice him. What about a guy like Dan Mullen at UNLV? It's his first year there, but he had a lot of success in the SEC the first time. I probably got run from Florida a little too early.

Yeah, I think he did too. He got ran from there too early. Let's see how Dan does here in the back half of the schedule. I'm not discounting the way they started on 4-0, but the schedule hasn't been all that tough. Remember their first game against Idaho State they probably should have lost an FCS team. But I think I agree with you. Dan's an incredible coach schemer.

but I think he's a name that won't start creeping up unless they start winning some bigger games in the Mountain West, especially in conference there. My final question about who could possibly be the coach is, what coordinator are you hearing whispers? They're looking to make that jump to the head coaching job at a P4 school. Will Stein, the offensive coordinator at Oregon. He's someone that I think is going to get a lot of consideration out there potentially.

Also keep in mind, we're probably going to have a record-breaking year as far as coach openings. So there's going to be a lot of jobs available and a lot of candidates and a lot of assistant coaches making that jump. You know, consider Glenn Schumann, the defensive coordinator at Georgia. They did a pretty good job in the second half against Alabama. He's always been a good coordinator, someone on the rise. And as we saw, Dan Laining, formerly a coordinator under Kirby making that jump. But right now, I think it's a lot of like prove it type things.

I was really high, for example, going into last week on Andy Cottlenecky, the offensive coordinator at Penn State. And you saw how much they struggled until the fourth quarter when the offense finally came back to life. But these days, a lot of ADs want a head coach who's a CEO type that can handle everything, not necessarily someone who having to handle the back office stuff and everything and also call plays. They need someone who is trained to handle that stuff and is more a business-like approach. So you'd have to be a really, really hot coordinator, I think, to really get a big ton of consideration right now. These programs like a Virginia, a UCLA in Arkansas that obviously are going to have to

hire a new coach. They're in the middle of the season. Like how aggressive can they hunt and who's doing the hunting? Who are they talking to? You know, a lot of these schools, they'll go hire a search firm of some sort, and it's usually the same one. And they kind of compile a list. They start making calls, gauging type of interest, at least from the agents. Rarely are they actually talking directly to the coaches. They're talking to their agents, and then the agents are hitting up their coaches from time to time. But I think you're getting at a good point here, which is there's only so much you can do. I mean, we're not even out of the month of September. And we're talking about coaching changes, and you're not going to be able to hire anyone until the first week or second week of December, because everybody's coaching right now.

So a coach could show a lot of interest in a job, and that could change overnight because, one, they don't like the situation potentially they're being offered. or two, another job comes open, or they hear another job's going to come open. But places like Virginia Tech, Arkansas, and elsewhere, they've certainly got a working list that are putting together. They're vetting all of that in the early going. But you're right. There's just not much you can do.

Like anybody expecting by mid-October to start hearing it for these places, like so-and-so is going to end up being the coach. You're kidding yourself. I should have added the tech because Virginia had a really good winning. It's Florida State. So that'll lead me there. Florida State, that was kind of a ripe game for Florida State to lose, in hindsight, right? Yeah, absolutely, because going into that, both offenses are in the top five, top 10 nationally.

Florida State was number one. Virginia was no slouch. They were scoring almost 50 points a game themselves. They brought in a lot of transfers. You talk about NIL money. I've actually writing a story about this. They got a gigantic, anonymous gift from a booster, and they used that to help. build this roster. Their general manager said back in July, the moment they got that gift,

they said our recruiting board completely changed. They erased it and started putting new names on there because they could get bigger guys. And I'm told my sources there in Charlottesville told me they spent about $20 million, if not more, just an NIL money on the portal this off season. And it's paid dividends for them, right? Eight of their starters are all new players. 19 of the 32 transfers that came in all played a significant part on the field against Florida State. That's our roster that looks completely different and they're playing differently. And it just goes to show you these days in college football that you can change things overnight if you've just got deep, deep pockets in the big NIL program.

Let's do a couple of same song, different verses. And we can start with James Franklin at Penn State losing another big one. Actually, the first whiteout they've ever lost. Double overtime. So great game for me because I didn't really have a rooting interest. but when will James Franklin losing these games wear thin on Penn State? I think it has worn thin. I think it's worn thin on them a few years ago.

They're two and 21, or excuse me, James Franklin overall in his career is two and 21 against top six teams, second worst ever all time, which is actually just behind a Hall of Fame coach, Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech. He has the actual worst record against top six, top five type teams. And give credit to James Franklin quite a bit because, listen, a Big Ten Media Day,

all these other events I go to where he's at. I'm not kidding you. He's probably asked two or three times about his record against top five teams. Like, are you ever going to win the big one? Are you going to be able to do it? And, of course, he was asked about it again Saturday night after losing, and he said, it's not a narrative. It's just facts.

I mean, he's just like, you're not, he's what he's saying is, you're not just telling me something to anger me. I know it's a fact, and that's my fault is kind of what he's saying. And he just knows he asked to win. I think also we need to put in context that, yes, Penn State is a blue blood, but the talent level that they bring in the Penn State is probably a half step to one step below what you see at Michigan and Ohio State every single year. And for that matter, Oregon, the level they recruit.

Just go look at the numbers and the players. But we have it in our head that Penn State should be winning a national title every few years because James Franklin's made them so consistent year after year after year winning 10 games, and they just can't get over that last step because, I mean, let's face it, their stride is a little bit shorter than those other bigger schools. The other version of same song, different verse is Alabama, Georgia, where it doesn't matter who the coaches at Alabama, they tend to beat Georgia and Kirby Smart every year.

That was nuts, man. And the second half, I think Kirby Smart just legitimately sees ghosts whenever Alabama's on the other sideline. It doesn't matter who the coach is. Some weird decisions. They got fourth and one at Alabama's eight-yard line. instead of kicking a field goal to tie it in the second half, they decide to run a quick handoff to Cash Jones,

who hadn't really touched the ball at all, and he ends up stumbling and getting blown up by L.T. Overton for Alabama, and they lose yardage and turn over the ball. And then later, they call another play on fourth down, and they turn the ball over again by, you guessed it, throwing it out to Cash Jones, who lost yardage on it. I even tweeted during the game, I was like, somebody explained,

cash Jones to me because it makes no sense why they're utilizing that guy in the two biggest plays of the game. And then you had a player getting unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for jumping on top of the pile on a tush push where it was third and one. Alabama picked up the first down, but also they got an additional 15 yards so Alabama could keep the ball and melt the clock down. Just weird decisions and smart defending himself afterwards. Ten times out of ten, he'd call that trick, that quick handoff instead of kicking the field goal for the tie. Listen, this is something that dates back, even back to 2018 in the SEC championship game, the fake punt that made no sense against Alabama, I think he just overthinks himself quite a bit,

and that's been his undoing. And credit to Kalen DeBoer, I mean, he's 7 and 1 now against top 10 teams in his head coaching career. The guy is just a big game coach. Three questions left. Let's go to Vandy. They're scoring a bunch of points. They're going to play Alabama next week. one, how good is Vandy?

And two, is this something Vandy can sustain for a couple of years at this point? If they can get Diego Pavia, like a seventh and eighth year of eligibility, yeah. He's the engine, man, right? And I think that combination of him and then getting Jerry Kill, the former New Mexico state coach there on staff to kind of help guide things and say, hey, this is what works with Diego, has really helped. But I think when Diego leaves, they'll take a little bit of a step back. But the good thing is, is Diego has set up a foundation, so to speak, of, hey, good talent can come here.

And by the way, when you are here, you're not just going to float in space. You're going to potentially win games. And as you've seen, they've updated facilities there. They're amazing there in Nashville now. Clark Lee's got that thing going. I think they're going to attract a better type of recruit. They already are. As for this weekend, it's so weird to say this, but Alabama's out for blood against Vanderbilt.

This is a revenge game for Alabama. Because Vandy beat him last year. I think Vandy's walking into a hornet's nest. They haven't faced an opponent nearly as good as Alabama yet this season. And it being on the road, I think it has the potential, the potential to get ugly. Because I think Diego Pavia might get put into a lot of troubling situations where he's going to turn the ball over trying to force things. All right, two questions left. Do your Heisman top three right now?

Because it is not what I thought it would be at this point in the year. Oh, gosh, I haven't even thought about it. Because it ain't Nessmeyer. He's struggled or been hurt or whatever it's happening. I don't know what's happening. He's off the, not off the board, but he's, yeah. Dante Moore's climbing up there to me, the Oregon quarterback. He's been phenomenal.

I put him up there. Fernando Mendoza is still up there. I think Carson Beck is potentially going to start climbing up the charts more. They get Florida State this week on the road. If he has a big performance on the road against Florida, to state and a rivalry game. I think that's when you'll see Carson Beck potentially go up further. But it's crazy just a week ago that the Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza jumped up to

number one after just blowing out of Illinois. But right now it seems like it's going to be a quarterback award, which it really hasn't been in recent history, but it seems like we're moving more in that direction. One dark horse, I'll say, is Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy. He has been phenomenal. he's had five straight games, 100 plus yards. He just had another 130-yard game. Saturday night, he's the best running back in the SEC,

maybe the country, and Mizzu likes to feed him. He's not one of these running backs nowadays that touches the ball 15 times, and that's it. He'll get it 20, 25 times, and he's just explosive and a hard runner. And once they start playing better teams, and he puts that type of production, I think you'll start hearing his name quite a bit more.

All right, final question. This is more of a suggestion that I would make, very macro to a school like an Arkansas that complains about NIL. But it is ironic that Arkansas will go ahead and pay the extra $2 million for his buyout, but we don't have enough money to support NIL. It's like you have the money, you just haven't used it. So what if we could invest into these teams? Meaning, let's say they needed $100.

And I was like, okay, I'll give $10 and take the $10 and get you. And then at the end, if we end up making $400, I get my percentage. based on how the school did in revenue with the money I gave. So it's not like rich people just giving money and going, here you go, have money with nothing for me except for me getting to brag about being able to donate. What if there was the ability to make money back on a team if you gave money? What a great idea.

You should pitch it. I'm serious. Look, I'm going to be honest, I give money and they want more money. They never want less money. I've never had that happen in my whole life where they've been like, you know what you've given us a little too much keep some for yourself that's never happened but i start to go especially after the arkansas ad last week or two weeks whenever it was when i was speaking to the touchdown club yeah he was like you know we're just not uh we don't really

have it to be a championship team and i'm like well then why am i giving money if if we don't have it why do you continue to take my money if we don't have it so now i'm thinking if there was like a revenue model for investors to get paid i could see a lot of folks throwing money into this thing Is that something, have you ever heard that before or am I absolutely insane? No, you're not insane and I haven't really heard that before. I'm also not very smart with money. So that's probably why I've never thought of something like that. But it certainly sounds very doable, right?

Especially, can you imagine some of these programs, like even like you said, Arkansas where everybody's all about it in one state and you've got a lot of smart business people in this state that would be willing, you know what? That sounds like a good opportunity, good idea. Yeah, I like it. You need to go pitch that. You can do both. Next time Arkansas asks you for, next time Arkansas asks you for more money, go, hey,

here, here's an idea. Yeah, I got envelope in the mail yesterday. It was one of those, hey, check this box if you can give us this amount of money. And I was like, I was just told, we can't win. So why do I want to give more money? So I'm sure I'll have to give some more now. I'm happy to give more now that we are moving, hopefully, in a different direction. But, man, to be at that game, were you hearing any whispers in the press box about anything?

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, they're just talking to people. They're just like this. There's no coming back from this. It's also getting some weird looks from some people going, why are you here? Oh, yeah.

National guy in the Arkansas press box. And I was sitting in the very back on like the third row. But, you know, two of the last three games I've been at, the head coach got fired. Oh, no. You got to keep him away. He's like that cat at the nursing home that shows up near the door. And if it shows up near the person's door,

the person always dies. Brandon is the cat at the nursing home. Oh, no. All right, Brandon. Well, I'm going to be at Miami, Florida State this week. So I don't think anybody will get fired after that. I think I'm good. I think you're good.

And then, dude, it happens every Saturday. I feel like I'm just dominating college football. Like, this is awesome. And then I go to the nightcap games. Oh, no. And I'm at UT El Paso versus who knows who. Why are you betting that game? But listen.

And I'm like, oh, you know what? This game's over. I'm just going to, I'm just going to. bet $50 that nothing's going to happen that the score is going to stay the same. No, interception. Does the guy fall down and just like intercept the ball? No, he runs it in for a touchdown.

I lose $50 and it makes me so mad. So what do I do? I bet 50 more on BYU. Why don't you stop betting the games you have no understanding of anything happening? I think that's your mess up. The last game of the night, BYU at Colorado. I'm like, oh, come on, BYU's going to win this. So I got my money back.

Oh, you did win that one. I did win that. I got my $50 back. But is this like whenever you said you were making $30 a picture on Instagram and I got in and you weren't? And you almost never did because I looked at your money. If I were to look at your draft kings. Yeah. I had $50.

No, I'm saying what I see that you made money or lost money. Sure. Yeah, you can see my bets. No, I don't want to see my bets. Dude, it's a lot of bets. But stop betting on games that you don't know anything about. That's the best though. That's the best because I'm like, what am I going to do?

Everyone's asleep. It's 1130 at night. I'm going to stay up and watch football. Then bet a dollar. I know. should. Yeah, and then wake up happy. I should. Yeah. But I'm having, I'm having fun, dude, I'm telling you, a weekend, I probably placed 30 bets. Yeah, I probably, I mean, I probably do that too. Finger happy, man, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, that's a lot.

But minor on games, I at least know what the mascot is. True. No, no, no, no, El Paso the minors. I didn't know, I don't even know who they were playing. Oh, Utah. Oh, Utah. Oh, and then I stayed up for the Raging Cajuns. Louisiana? They were overtime. Do Louisiana was playing overtime. You're pointing me like, I'm going to go, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not. You don't need to bet those games.

Yeah, dude, stay off those. The only thing that's on. Did you do any of the listening in the booth? Like with that. Did you see that on Friday? Yeah. Dude, I love that. What is that?

Okay, so on Friday, the Virginia, Florida State game, every time the play would go under review, they would play the audio of the guys back in New York watching the screens and the referee watching the screen. So watching them converse and listening. him be like, all right, see his hand. I see his hand touching the ground, but is that ball moving? And then you can hear him argue and be like, I think the ball's moving.

No, Tom, I really don't think the ball's moving there. And then the refs like, uh, you guys figure this one out. Like, you get to hear all of them. Really? It was so cool. I never heard the refs go, you guys figured this one out, but I do understand what you're saying. Like, I'm clueless. Flip a coin.

I didn't hear that one. And then what was cool is, and then they decided, okay, so is it going to be overturned? Let's just go with overturn. All right. One, overturn. Yeah, overturn. Turn. Three.

Overturn. All right. And then he takes his headphones off. And it's cool because you get to watch. It's cool. You get to hear it where like we're just used to watching the guy look at the screen and then blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Is he actually talking to somebody in there? Who knows?

Yeah. And then you get a real good understanding of like, oh, that does make sense. Like now I get why that wasn't targeting. They got to hate that, though. They're just showing their work. It's like when we used to do math problems in eighth grade. It was like, okay, I know you get your answer, but you got to show your work. Oh, yeah.

So when they show their work, you see how they get there. so you have a better understanding of what the result is, even if you don't agree with it. But I agree with it both times. I saw it. I only saw it twice. Oh, they showed it every time. But I only saw it twice.

I guess you only watched the end, right? I watched the last two-thirds of the final quarter. And then the overtimes. Yeah. So they do it in overtime? I didn't see it in overtime. I didn't see it in overtime. So is this something that they can do for like ever?

They can if they would like to. Not Amazon. but maybe it's Amazon. Prime. The stats, yeah. So there's different feeds. Yeah, it's Amazon. You can go to a different feed altogether

and watch almost what's like an all-22 version and see plays develop. Oh, that's awesome. And so you're not watching from the typical view. I was thinking because I get Amazon and YouTube TV mixed up because they're both streaming, both digital. It's Amazon. And you can back off and do another view.

Yeah, they have like probability that so-and-so is coming. Who's blitz? And they have like the, bottom circle on the blitzers. That's cool. And sometimes the blitzers tricks them, but if they think it's blitzing, it gets darker, like hot pink. Yeah, it looks like a video game almost. Dang, I've never seen that.

That's awesome. It's super cool. So that is fun, though. Do you guys like the sky cam? No. I actually hate it. Wait, like the one on the wire? Yeah, the one of the wire. It looks like when they first started showing football on television in like the 60s, when they had one camera

at the top of the bleachers. Oh yeah, just doing the 50s. That's what that reminds me of a bit. So I don't like it. And there's no commentators. It's just the camera. Have you seen that? Oh, no. And the crowd.

In the crowd. Yes. Yeah, it's fun for a second. It'd be cool to put it up as a, if you had, I mean, I guess I could do it on my screens upstairs because I have three screens beside each other. It'd be cool. It'd be cool. But to watch it by itself, I don't have it. I need to be stimulated.

Yeah. I just like the options. Like if that's the way, the way you want to watch a game, cool. You have an option to watch that game. Who watches it like that? You and like your boys? No, I mean, it's a, it's a lot. options. So sometimes, like, you see

LSU O'Miss and, like, you just click on a box and it ends up being that one. Oh, okay. And then you realize after five minutes of watching, you're like, there's no commentator on this. This is the one angle. What did you think of Dan Lanny? After they won that game? Dude, Dan Lany is he's different.

Like, the way he acted when they won that game, which was awesome. I'll just say it was great and it was cool to see him act like that. But I've never seen a coach Twitch and almost It was almost like, this is going to sound weird, but it's almost like he killed someone,

and he's on a for rush of like he just killed someone. And his eye was twitching, and he was out of breath. And he really, he just didn't even know how to talk to the reporter because he was so freaking excited that they won that game. I've never seen a coach do that. Did you watch the Charlie Sheen documentary? No. It's like when Charlie Sheen was doing all that crack.

There's a whole part of the second episode, and it's the part that we remember most when he was like, winning. And he was just like, ugh. and he was dutory, yeah. His getting pumped up and being so excited is like Charlie Sheen on crack. So it's a healthy version. You did notice that.

I mean, he was just... Oh, yeah. I mean, he is an intense guy. Intense. So it's a bit of the intensity. He's pretty high strong anyway. And probably emotional? Yeah.

And almost like a cathartic release all happening at once. Yeah. He's awesome, though. Yeah, he's awesome. He takes jabs all the time. No, I know you're not saying anything bad. I'm just saying that guy is, he's awesome. The jab.

The whiteout? Did you see that? Yeah. Where he's like, oh, it wasn't really like, they used it as an effect, but like it didn't really affect us. Didn't really affect us. Yeah.

Love it. And Oregon's in the white. That's what I was, okay, first thing I thought of I turned the game on was like, why is Oregon in the white on a Penn State white out? So I thought the same thing. Interesting. And what I thought was,

it's confusing to see all the white if all your team's white. It would be like, do you remember when I said if you wore camouflage jerseys? And somebody DM me and said, Boise State did that with blue on blue turf where they had one of their guys lay on the ground and you didn't see them. And he jumped up and caught a ball.

So I thought... He's like a snake. Yeah. And that's what I thought like, could you do camouflage jersey helmet? But I think it's like a reverse. Like all white. And then if you're in white,

it looks like you can't differentiate your players from the crowd at times. I don't know that that's true. Do you all know how they pick the colors? Like is it... Well, that's, That's their main color. White and blue.

Blue. Yeah. Colorblind. But like Oregon. So like if they're coming to town, they just... They have to be white. They're the away team. Okay, they always have to be white.

Got it. Cool jerseys, though. I mean, they're... Dude, they must have like 10 alternate... Oh, more than that. Like 80. Gosh, amazing. Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure the away team is always white. Yeah. I think they have to have, like, their main color has to be white. Okay. And that's college. That's in the NFL. That's college. Yeah.

Is that a normal thing? Ish? Like, when's the last time we played? Always rowdy. It's every other round. And it's every two years. Two years. So it's been four years since we played here.

And so it's fair game. You're there. You can... I even saw like one of the emcees had to like step down because... Heather McDonnell or what's her name, Mike? The comedian. Heather McMahon. Heather McMahon.

She was like... She was like F Rory. Oh, really? But Rory yelled FU at the crowd. I did see that clip. I did see that clip. I saw cops were like getting involved too. Is that because of the crowd?

Yeah. The crowd was out of control. Wow. And Trump was there for one of the days. Oh, I did see that. behind the bulletproof glass. He walked Bryson out. So it's, I don't think it's as cool as some people do. Because it's not like a real, it's not like a major. But some people love it. And I mean, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not interested in anybody's Cheerio. I think it's awesome. But to me, I didn't even, I watched like a little bit of it. I'd rather watch football.

Yeah, I watched it on Thursday. Or they start on Thursday. And we love golf. We love watching golf. Yeah. But once football season starts, golf's the, it's like. But some people do root like. it's the Olympics or something. Yeah. It's cool, but like... It's a big deal. I mean, it really is a big deal because then they argue

who's going to be the captain. Is the captain going to play? Who's going to be on the team? And ours was Keegan. Yeah, and he was good enough to play and he still chose not to. He just walked around with a little walkie-talkie.

Oh, that's cool. Pretty awesome. He was all over the place, too. He'd go to like one green and then walk to another green. That's how it was playing against Eddie. Yeah. Those New York fans.

Like, I'd do something good. He'd be like, yeah, for you. That's not true. That's not true. all I would say is, that's in the water. Yes, exactly. Water. Just in case, because you can't really see.

So I had to tell you it was in the water. Exactly. Oh, that's nice, dude. Kevin's put together as top five most overhyped quarterbacks in college football. Yep, coming into the year. This year. Yes. Okay, number five.

Number five is Lenora Sellers from South Carolina. Can I say that he's hurt been hurt? Well, that's part of the reason, though. Can you be overhyped if you're injured? That's not fair. You don't even have a chance to get to the hype. But the injuries go back to last year too. He was injured last year.

So part of the overhype is, how can you be so hyped in the number one pick if you can't even stay on the field? I think that's a good argument if there's like three seasons of that. So he's got one more to go? I think he goes pro anyway. You do? Yeah.

Yeah. I think he has all the tools. I think he probably goes pro. I guess if he has a further disappointment, winning season with more injuries. The reason I guess he could stay is they do get paid a lot. And three years ago, three to infinity years ago, he's gone.

Yeah. But, yeah, there's a chance. I guess there's a chance he stays. It depends how their year goes to, I feel. Like, they've already lost a couple games. I'm not having none. Lenora Sellers are number five. You're using injuries.

Okay. And then number four, it should maybe be higher people think, but Arch Manning. Oh, I don't know how to say number one. That should be one. But I hear you. It's your list. Thank you guys, thank you.

Whatever you want, man. The reason it's not number one is because it's kind of also the media's fault for hyping him so much. But that's who hipes. Is the media? Yes. Yeah. The media does all the hyping. But it's not like he's out here like, oh, I'm the best, I'm this, I'm that.

Like everyone's saying, oh, he's so good. Texas people are saying, oh my gosh, you see this guy in camp. Like, and then he goes out and plays. It's like, well, he never really played. Now it's like, oh, well, he never really played before. So that's probably why he's not doing so well? It's like, well, then why did he have all this hype? I feel like the media is who hypes

Digital media, dude. Number one, Kade Klubnick or Rick Clemson. Oh, boy. Bad, bad, bad. He had a really good game in a loss at Austin last year in the college football playoff. Yeah. And they lost. That was the first round of the CFP, right? I think second round. Or second round? Yeah. And he looked good in that loss. And he was highly recruited, so everybody thought it's time. But yeah, no. It's been real bad. Really bad. It's been real bad.

For the whole team. For the coach. And they have talent. Everyone's talking about how good their team was this year. And then if your quarterback was that hyped, and then he can't even get it done. And it's like, okay. You know who it sucks for Oklahoma?

Because they have a really great season. They're undefeated. And their quarterback material goes out. I had to have hand surgery. Now he may only be gone two games. And he was out this week by week. Next week, Oklahoma plays Kent State. A week after that, though, they play Texas.

Ooh, yeah. Is that non-throwing hand? No, it's throwing hand. It's throwing hand. So he may be back for the game after Texas. I'll root for Oklahoma. South Carolina. Yeah.

Then Ole Miss, then Tennessee. Oh, yeah, dude. Oh, my gosh. He's got to come back. Yeah, the SEC is, it's a nightmare forever. Especially when you're one of the bad teams because all the teams are good. Like, if you're one of the bad teams, there are no other bad teams. If you're Arkansas or Kentucky, there are no Arkansas or Kentucky's to

play because you're them. Yeah. That's tough. Yeah, that's why the teams that are the worst always have the hardest schedules because they can't play themselves. Or a team like Georgia, they have a hard schedule, but they also get to play the bad teams. They get to play Arkansas and Kentucky.

Yeah. Vanderbilt's not one of those teams anymore. No, not anymore. Neither is Mississippi State. They almost won. Yeah, they should have, yeah. What a game. Yeah.

That was another overtime game, right? They're legit, yeah. Yes. What a game. And that was a double overtime, if I'm correct. I know it was overtime. Oh yeah, it was double because I think they were going for the two.

Yeah, they missed the two. I didn't make a note on that, but I'm pretty sure it was double overtime. Man, I think there were five overtime games. Is it just one overtime? Are you sure? Yep. What game was going for the two?

Maybe Tennessee? No, I think they were just going for the touchdown because Tennessee scored first a touchdown because it says in overtime, Tennessee had seven, they had zero. Well, one of them was going for the two. Oh, maybe it might have been Florida State. But it was on the goal, like they were close.

They were like on the two. three yard line. Okay. I'm blurring. Yeah, I'm blurring. There's a lot of overtime. I'm blurring. Five overtime games this week.

Yeah. And whenever the Eagles blocked that punt at the very first of the game, I was like, here we go again. I know. Like the last two plays they had were blocks. They'll go block, pump block. Let me make sure I didn't miss anything. That seemed to be pretty good on notes.

And if anything else crazy happens for tonight, we'll just throw up an end after our end. like tomorrow we'll have a few minutes we can do like five minutes and we'll be like oh can you believe the Cowboys Cowboys won it was crazy Wow they had eight onside kicks in row recovered them all 10 Hell Marys

If we have nothing after this It was just a normal night I don't like the double Monday night game I hate that No that's this week right Yeah

I hate it I also forgot there was a Ireland game this week I woke up normal time obviously didn't turn anything on because I knew I had football all day so I was just like gonna have breakfast with my wife

nothing and I just clicked to make sure none of my fantasy guys were out and I saw that I was playing Kenny Gainwell and he had like 20 points already and I'm like was there a game last night and I was like oh they played in Europe yeah I miss that whole game

yeah my wife doesn't like those morning games because she's just like I went to bed hearing football and now I'm waking up to football That's right. Do you have it in your room? Yeah, well, in the morning ones, I turn it on. As soon as I wake up, I just do it on the TV in my room. And she's like, what are you watching?

You watching highlights? Nope, they're playing in Ireland. Back on. Yeah. Okay, I think that's it. Anybody else have anything else? No. Postseason baseball is coming this week, too.

Yeah. I'm excited. Cubs and Padres. Is there to play? I think so. I should look at that. I'm almost positive it is. It just rolled off.

Mike, would you look at that? You sounded very confident. I did. Well, then I regressed. Backtrack real quick. You're correct. Okay. Yeah.

This is when I start watching baseball. Yes. Not just the first innings of baseball games. See, if you hit your bet. Yeah, yeah. All right. That's it. So I guess we're going to go.
