So there's literally only one person that when I get on my TikTok, I go and search their profile to make sure that I don't miss any content. And it's our guest now who's Jeff Perlman. And you can follow him on TikTok, Jeff Perlman author. But it's my favorite TikTok account in the whole world because, Jeff, you just get on. And I don't know what your motivation was or if you thought this is going to be. But your stories are freaking so good because they are all sports. Was this some sort of strategy?

Or are you just like, I'm just going to hit the button and tell stories? No, I'll tell you exactly what happened. There was a maybe four months ago, five months ago. I gave some advice. There were a bunch of layoffs in sports media, and I gave some advice on Twitter to young journalists coming up. And this one website slammed me, just slam me, and basically said, why would you ever take advice?

I'm 52. Why would you ever take advice on social media and TikTok and blah, blah, blah, basically from this dinosaur? And I was like, I'm going to take this as a challenge. I've avoided TikTok my whole life. I'm going to take it as a challenge. I'm just going to go on TikTok. And my son, his name is Emmett, he's 17.

He's like, dad, don't go on TikTok. I was like, I'm doing it. He's like, it's for teenage girls. Don't do it. I'm just going to do it. I'm just going to tell stories. He's like, don't use filters. Don't do any of that.

And I didn't. I haven't touched a filter. I think one time, but otherwise I haven't. And I just like start telling stories because I like telling stories anyway. And, you know, I've had a long career. And it's kind of resonated. I'm always surprised that people listen. I've made a lot of notes about things you've talked about

are things that I wanted to ask you. And often I talk about. talk back to you, you just are a recorded message that can't talk back to me. So it's actually good to do this in person. Showtime, the book you wrote, which was Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers, that turned into winning time, correct? Correct. And so when they come to you and say, hey, we want to turn this into a television show, how do they approach you and how much are you involved in actually making sure that they translate what you've written correctly? So it initially started about nine years ago. I live in California now. I was living in New Rochelle,

of New York and a screenwriter named Jim Hect just called me and said, hey, I really love your book. I was like, all right. And if you write enough, I've written 10 books. I'm like, you do get stuff optioned. And it almost never happens. Nothing ever comes of it. So you become very jaded and skeptical. So he came to my house and he's like, oh, I really think this could be something.

And I was like, all right, okay. Yeah, no, it can really be saying, okay, all right. And then the years passed. And one day, I think someone sent me a link to an article in the Hollywood reporter or variety and it said um john c riley cast to play jerry bus in whatever show based on laker book and i was like that's interesting i'm like that's my book and then it was one after another after another a big actors cast in this show and the beauty was and i'm not to saying this they really kept me involved they really kept me in the loop but they would uh ask me a ton of questions is this right is that right

how does this work how does that work i go to set my wife my kids and i were all had little cameos in in season one. It was the dreamy experience and it paid for my college at my kids' college education. So it's great. I loved the show. I wish they would have continued the show. And I don't think it was that people didn't like the show. Did COVID the reason?

Why did they tell you the show shut down? I think HBO got really, has gotten kind of cheap, to be honest with you. And it was a very expensive show to make, no doubt about it. And it also, season two came out during the writer's strike and actor strike, the strike strikes. and nobody could promote it. Like literally nobody could promote it. So none of the stars could mention a peep about the show. And I just think it kind of died in a vacuum.

God, it was so good. So good. And I learned a lot about Pat Riley. Like, I didn't know. I thought they cast him awesome. And I didn't know that he was like a broadcape, obviously a player and then a broadcaster. I mean, is that very similar to what JJ Reddick's doing right now? Well, Riley had a little more experience because he, well, he had been,

been a broadcaster and he also had been an assistant to Westhead early on. JJ Redd, I've never seen anything like this with JJ Redick. I don't think where a guy literally has zero coaching, literally zero coaching experience ever. It seems pretty new and pretty risky for me. Not a big fan of that higher, I got to say. Your book, Three Ring Circus, Kobe Shack, Phil and the crazy years of the Lakers, which is a different book came out like six years later. And I was listening to you talk about Kobe and how Kobe wasn't as cool as people. assumed he was, he was actually a bit awkward.

Is that because he lived another country for most of his life? I think largely, he was a kid. He grew up largely in Italy, one of the few black kids, you know, in his community in Italy. Then he moves to America for high school, and he lives, he used to tell people

he was from Philly, it's from Lower Merion, which is a leafy suburb. Again, one of the few black kids. He kind of grows up in this bubble. He's very awkward, but he becomes a celebrity, in high school he takes brandy to his prom which is kind of weird he had never met her but he takes him to the prom he um when he uh when he was dating his wife Vanessa no one on the Lakers knew about it literally nobody in the Lakers knew about it when he got married he didn't invite any of his

teammates his teammates didn't even know he was getting married he just had a real kind of standoffish approach to life um I think he thought when I interviewed shack for the book and this is before Kobe died um we were talking about their nicknames and how Shaq went by like Shaq Diesel and the big And Kobe went by Black Mamba and how Kobe genuinely thought of himself as the Black Mamba. You know, like he wasn't in on the joke. And Shaq said to me, he goes, now you know what I was dealing with. And I just think like it's weird to talk about a guy after he died and kind of, but he was a very, just an awkward, socially awkward guy who grew as, you know, by the time he was a dad, I think

he was much more kind of down with it all. Did Shaq and Kobe ever have a good relationship or did it go from just kind of confused to bad. And then how also do you play with somebody you hate? I mean, I would say it was always, it was never great. Like the thing is, Shaq really wanted Batman Robin. Like in his mind, that was this, what this was going to be, Batman Robin. And he was Batman, and Kobe is Robin.

And he wanted Kobe to come to him and talk to him and, you know, seek out wisdom. And Kobe wasn't that guy. Kobe, when Kobe first came to the Lakers, his first team meeting training camp, he's 18 years old barely 18 years old and all the lakers are standing around and the coach del harris has them just introduce themselves so nick van exor was like yeah yo i'm nick i'm from cintzs i'm eddie jones town ball shack i'm big shack from ls u and cobi goes i'm cobb and nobody here is going to punk me like he was 18 years old and that was the way he introduced himself to the other lakers and he just would not allow that thing that shack wanted and how do they play

together well, they were just great. Like, they were just great. And at the end of the day, you don't have to love your teammates or necessarily even like your teammates. If your teammates are great and they help you win and they help you get rich and they help you get all the spoils of success, it always works out, usually works out. Was that largely based with insecurity with Kobe early on? It sounds like that's what I would say and what did say whenever I was wild. I'm only moderately insecure at this point. But when I was wildly insecure, I would say stuff like that. Like, I'm the best,

nobody's going to take me. I actually, it's so funny. When I was a young, writer at the Tennyson. I started my career in Nashville and Nashville at the Tennessean. I was this cocky. I'm the best writer here. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Nobody's going to be better on me. I think youth, you sometimes just have that and you just think things that aren't that important are incredibly important. And most people, you realize later, most people just want to get home to their kids at the end of the day or, you know, whatever, see a movie or relax on the couch. But to you, it's life and death. I think for Kobe, he viewed every moment of his MBA career as life or death.

and cutthroat and these people are trying to take what's mine. And Shaq was always kind of in on the joke. He got the joy of it all. He understood the spoils. He wanted the spoils in his offseason. He didn't want to be in a gym in an off season. He wanted to be in a pool. And I just think there was a real just difference between their philosophies.

Bo Jackson. How fast was Bo Jackson? 4-1-3-40. 4-1. That's unbelievable to be that big. Are we sure? 100%. And here's the crazier thing.

He goes to the Raiders. and, you know, he played baseball, then he signed with the Raiders. And they set up a 40 for him to run on grass after practice one day. And they measure it. And Tom Flores as a coach, and he says run to 40. And he does a 419 on grass. And Tom Flores, a coach doesn't believe it. And he says, measure that off again, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

He runs it again. He runs a 417. He was the fastest man to ever play in the NFL. there's no question about it. And he was 220 pounds at his max. It's just insane. If he was a 419 or 417 with a handheld, do we think he might have even been a bit faster?

I mean, he might have been. It's possible. He, I mean, the 413 was official. God, dang. Wait, the craziest story to me about his speed in a lot of ways is when he played with the Royals, his first game was against a White Sox, September 1st, 1986.

He's a late-season call-up. his first at bat he hits a ground ball to second base to second base and this is on tape he beats it out he beats out the ground ball to second base for his first major league hit and behind home play all the scouts are clocking it

they all have their clocks and everyone's like what'd you get what'd you get and they're all like no I got it wrong I got it wrong and I finally it's like what'd you get it was the second fastest recorded time ever from home to first by a right-handed hitter and this was his first major league at bat he was just preposterously fast

and to be that big and that fast. Is he in your mind of the athletes that you've seen the most what could have been had injuries not got them? Yeah, I mean, in a lot of ways that's why I wrote the book. I think that the characters of the book are Bo Jackson and what could have been Bo Jackson because there's this whole question mark over what if he had stayed healthy?

Would he become Gary Sheffield? Would he become Mike Trout? And in football, would he have been in Eric Dickerson? Would he have been to Walter Payton? There's these questions that hang over him that make it really interesting. My buddy Eddie is a massive Dallas Cowboys fan. Huge.

Massive. Like for gifts, I got him a seat from the old Cowboy Stadium with like old Cowboys that had signed it. We went and we're lucky enough to go fly around with Jerry Jones last year. Like we try to pursue Cowboys stuff because he loves them so much. And you wrote a whole book, The Glory Days and the Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty, which was a lot of the like the 90s Cowboys, right? The Jerry Jones or the Jimmy Johnson. Sure.

How wild were they? Oh, my God. I've really written two books about wild teams. One was about the 86 Mets called The Bad Guys One, and there was this book called Boys Will Be Boys. The Cowboys are the craziest team. I mean, they literally had a place called the White House, which was a suburban house where they would,

as Nate Newton, a former offensive lineman used to say, we're just bringing back some hose. Why is that such a big deal? Go Cowboys. There's a moment in the book. Later in the run, the dynasty toward the end. One day, they used to bring a barber named Vinny to training camp to cut everyone's hair.

And one day, Everett McIver, a young offensive lineman, goes in the barber chair. And Michael Irvin feels like his turn has been skipped. And he says, yo, get out of my chair. And Everett McIriver's like, I'm not getting out of a chair. Irvin's like, get out of the chair. Everett's like, I'm not getting out of the chair. Everett McIver stands up, punches Michael Irvin. Michael Irvin grabs a barber's scissors.

and stabs Everett McIver in the neck. Whoa. Blood everywhere. They have to call paramedics. And at that point, Michael Irvin was on probation. And they never called in the crime. Because if they did,

like, or everyone probably kind of, they were crazy. They were just crazy. They were joyful, but they were crazy. How, hey, Jeff,

how challenging was it to write about the Cowboys, them being such a huge image? Like, was there a lot of red tape that you had? Lawyers and stuff? Yeah, like,

how does, what's that process? It wasn't actually. First of all, it helps that they're public figures. Like the main characters are public figures, and a lot of their stuff is just out there. And there were a lot of police reports in back then, to being honest,

in Dallas from the team, in the different incidents that happened. And the other thing is, okay, my, this is probably two nuts and bolts, but like my general philosophy when I write these books is like, all right, Michael Irvin has been interviewed 100,000 times about his time with the Cowboys.

But the backup running back hasn't. The third string quarterback hasn't. The guy who was in training camp for two weeks from the University of Delaware hasn't. Like there are all these people who are there, who are eyewitnesses, who experienced it, who are part of it, who either have never told their stories or just told their stories to like a wife or, you know, kids. So those are my people. And that's how you get a lot of good information. I saw you said that your son's name's Emmett.

Are you a Cowboys fan or what did that come from? No, I grew up a very sad New York Jets fan. We just picked the name because we like the name. Okay. I thought there was more there. Okay. No, nothing. I got to know Emmett later a little bit.

I did Dancing with the Stars and I ended up. I won and but Emmett went before, and this sounds so lame, but before like my last dance, I don't dance. It just feels weird to say before my last dance. But before my last dance, I was in the hallway and I was like,

oh man, because I was not a good dancer. Emmett came out and like talk to me because he had won like two seasons before and was like, here's a deal. And like really inspiring, like super kind guy. But that's the older Emmett.

Like what was Emmett like as a player? And it was cool. I mean, the thing about those guys and the thing about a lot of high-level athletes, and this sounds cliche, but it's really true, people like to think that it's all about team, team, team, team. But the way teams win, truly the way teams win is by a hyper-focused on individual performance. So Emmett Smith was not the most like, racist cowboy as far as I'm going to help the young running backs.

I'm going to give you advice on blocking schemes, blah, blah, blah. he was hyper, hyper focused on him. And he definitely was a stats, not obsessed, but stats mattered to him, breaking 1,500 yards, breaking 1,700 yards, getting more than 15 touchdowns. All those things really mattered to him. And he got criticized for that a little bit. But the truth of the matter is, in football, just like in baseball and basketball, really, like being obsessed with stats doesn't hurt your team.

Generally, it helps your team. So he wasn't like the most team first player, but I think that's part of what made him great, actually. Have you been public about the athletes that have been the most difficult for you to cover? And I've heard you talk about, like a Jeff Kent, Barry Bonds. Like, who is the most difficult that you've said or feel comfortable saying? And who was surprising and who was like the coolest that was also surprising? Well, I mean, I wrote a story for Sports Illustrated in 1999 about a racist relief pitcher named John Rocker.

I didn't know if I could ask about that. I didn't know how sensitive that was. I mean, that... I don't care. I mean, I watched a news clip on it yesterday when they were talking about that. He wrote the John Rocker. Remember on the subway with the thing that John Rocker was, I mean, he was kind of done after that. So what was that like and what was John Rocker really like?

So John Rocker was, I went down to profile him. I'd written about him. It was 1999, National League Championship Series. And you had to turn around these quick stories. So I actually interviewed John Rocker during the playoffs. and he was pretty good, but I didn't get that much time with him. And the Braves wound up being swept in the World Series by the Yankees. So my editors asked me to go down and touch it up, touch up the story, see if he'll spend some time with you.

And I called John Rocker's agent, and he's like, oh, man, you're going to love John. You should totally spend the day with him. This is going to be great. I was like, oh, this is awesome. Rocker picks me up in his car. And this is like first thing. We're driving, and there's a car in front of us that's driving a little erratically. and Rocker just starts bashing Asian women

and how they drive. And it was a white guy driving the car. Like we literally passed and it's a white guy. We get to a toll booth and it's when, it was in the old days when he had to throw chains into a big

like net. And he throws some chains in that doesn't open. Throw some other chains in net doesn't open. Guy behind us starts honking. Rocker rolls down the window, gives the guy the middle finger, says, F you. and then spits on the toll booth machine

and somehow it opened. I don't know what happened. We were, we, I mean, it's crazy. The whole day he was like, he didn't like foreigners, definitely didn't like gays, he hated New York City.

He called it a black teammate a fat monkey, like on and on and on. And I'm just spending all this time with him. And there was a moment in the John Rocker experience. And no one ever seems to get it, but I'm going to say it here anyway, that where people don't, to me it was the most telling moment

in a lot of ways, which is we went to get lunch and we're walking down a strip mall and he had a pen in his hand and he dropped the pen. And I picked up the pen and I said, hey, you dropped this. And he goes, he goes, nah, man, I meant to do that. And I was like, you just meant, like, you just meant to drop a pen. Like, you were holding a pen and in your brain, what you do with the pen when you don't want it anymore is just drop it. And I just thought like, what kind of weird and warped creature does that? So the story came out, it blew up. It went crazy viral. It was really weird. And later I saw John, that story came out at the end of 99. I saw him during the 2000 season in Atlanta, and he was not happy to see me at all. It was a very ugly confrontation. Did he not think that would, or did he not think what he

was doing was as vile as it was? I think he thought we were two white guys driving in his car in Georgia and that I would be entertained and amused by his comments. That's honestly what I think. I can't read his mind, but that's my opinion. I mean, I remember that story. Wow. I mean, I remember vividly. It's one of the first sports stories that I remember blowing up.

It's crazy to use the word viral. But yeah, that's probably the first viral sports story that I can think of that. And like Magic Johnson, right? I would put that in where the whole world knew of the story and it came from sports. Jeff, were you nervous about putting that story out at all? It's funny. I was, no, I wasn't because I think in journalism, I know in journalism. Like, I was sent there to write a profile of John Rocker.

Like, your job is to find out who this person is. When a person opens up to you like that, that's a gift. Like, that's actually a journalist's a gift. What I was nervous about, basically what happened is in 2000 in June, the Braves and Yankees were playing. We had a meeting in the SSI offices, and they needed some reporter to go down and cover the series. And I said, I'll do it because I just always, I was taught as a young writer that accountability matters. And you have to, you know, if you write something about someone, you have to give them the chance

to confront you. So I go down to, this is a true story. I go down in Atlanta, Yankees Braves. I know I have to at least make the effort to see John Rocker. I spend 98% of the pre-game time in the Yankees vicinity, but I know I have to see John Rocker. Also, just for people who probably don't remember, John Rocker was about 6'4-220. juiced up, that whole thing. So I finally walked down

through the bowels of the stadium to the other end. And I'm like, I'm definitely nervous. My hands, I'm sure I couldn't sweat and all that. I'm looking down on a notepad and I hear a voice, a very familiar voice and it says, you don't know how long I've been waiting for this. Oh, gosh. And I look up and there's John Rocker.

And he comes up to me and he gets like this far away from my face as close as you could be. And he's jabbing me. Do you have any idea what you did to me? Do you have any idea what you effing did to my family? Blah, blah, blah, blah. I did this. My one moment of courage was he goes, I did this, I did that.

I bought you lunch. And I said, well, I paid for lunch. He goes, well, if you, blah, blah, blah, blah. So I always tell young journalists, always paid for lunch. That's funny. So that was when I was nervous, not writing it, but that was scary. We only have a couple minutes left with Jeff. But if you go to jeffperlman.com, you can see all the books he's written.

I mean, he's covered everyone that's in our galaxy of major sports. sports heroes and like brands and um so go to jeff pearl one dot com you have a podcast called two writers sling and yang what is that what are you guys doing over there i just every week i talk to a different journalist or writer about the craft and sort of what goes into it do you do sport are you talking sports or you just talking right like uh it's you know sports but but a lot of it is about sort of uh breaking down stories breaking down articles breaking down approaches to writing i'm a writing nerd more than a sports nerd i'm a writing nerd he did a video eddie where he's writing a book now about Tupac comes out next year. Oh, cool. And so, but he's like,

hey, I like to write in public. I'm writing at a coffee shop. And he does like a pan of the table in the coffee shop. It's like stacks of paper like from the ground up to his elbows. He's got a computer. It's like this, but in a public space, it's unbelievable. And I just comment, I was like, shout up to the coffee shop for allowing you to do that right there. Right. Yeah. That, that's awesome. I'm big in mall food courts also. all these questions. So three final questions, and these can be like quick hitters, but I know you did Brett Favre, you did Gunslinger. Brett Farrv as a kid seemed like a cool dude.

Brett Fav as an adult seems like not a cool dude. Just as I've grown up, you know, as a kid he's awesome, as I got to be an adult. Like, I don't think I would like Brett Fav as a person. Did you spend much time with Brett doing the book, or was it mostly the other planet's revolving around him? And what do you think of Brett? Well, all right, real crazy, quick story is, when I was working on the book, I didn't know if Brett would talk to me.

And I DM'd his sister on Brandy on Facebook. And I said, hey, I'm working on a book about your brothers. Anyway, if I come to Mississippi, you would be willing to meet for coffee. And she's like, is he helping you? And I go, well, not yet. And he goes, well, if you come down, let me know. I'm in Mississippi. I DM her.

I'm like, any chance you can meet for coffee. She says, I'm at the house with our mom. Why don't you just come over to the house? I'm like, okay. I go to the house. his mom who's awesome Benita Favre says is Brett working with you on the book and I'm like no I hope he will but I mean I hope it talked to me she goes all right what do you want to know and I probably spent two hours over there they sent me home with Brett's scrapbooks literally his scrapbooks with old newspaper articles and stuff they were amazing and Brett never talked to me but I got every member of his family which is a very unusual experience as for now he's a disappointment like I don't think he'd be a bad guy to hang out with but he's You know, the alleged welfare fraud is definitely troubling. Sending picks of his privates to a reporter,

sideline reporter troubling. So I can't say I'm a huge fan of his. We do a show where we travel around the country, and this is the last question. We've been able to work out with a bunch of teams from the Carolina Panthers or UCF football or the St. Louis Cardinals. And so teams let us come in and we talk to the coaches and the players,

and then we work out with the team. And it's been a really cool experience. And we don't, most people are pretty inviting. Most teams, you know, they know we have a decent platform. And so they're like, come on in, roll out the red carpet. It's been awesome. But the one person I cannot get to respond to anything is my favorite player growing up. And so I don't even know if you have a story about them, but I was the biggest Mark Grace fan.

I was a massive Cubs fan. What do you know about Mark Grace as a player? Because, you know, stories tend to be pretty wild about Mark Grace and the slumpbusters and all the stories that have, you know, made it through the years. You know what slumpbuster is? What's your favorite encounter with an athlete as a kid? Man. Did you ever get to meet a professional athlete's kid? No. since I was in the valley down in south, south Texas, like it was so rare. I think the first celebrity I ever met athlete was our boy, Tony Casillas, when he came to the H.E.B.

sat there after they won their first Super Bowl. He did like a tour of grocery stores and he made it down there. So H.E.B. paid him to do the tour. Yeah, yeah. And then shortly after that, I remember Jay Novichick went to, I think, a bunch of, it wasn't sports clips. It was another like haircut place, like maybe just a cut. Is that sound familiar?

It's like one of those like, you know, haircut places. And he did tour of those. So I met Tony Casillas and then Jay Novichick after that. The only athlete I ever met as a kid was a guy named John Leppley. And he pitched for the Arkansas Travelers. But big deal. That's a big deal, man. Huge deal because they never signed during games, but I would go stand by the bullpen.

Be like, come on. Oh, yeah. And he signed my ball during a game. That's awesome. Well, you see if you can find where John Leppley is now. So the only reason. Did you, were you a fan of his or just the only reason you know is because he. That was the only guy that would sign the ball.

Come up and sign the ball. And I kept that ball and valued it, treasured it. And that was the Cardinals. That's why I remember his name. That was the Cardinals Farm Club. If you want to get an Airbnb in Green Bay, it's going to be around at least $1,000 bucks a night. What?

Dang. For NFL Cs. season with like two and three nine minimums. According to reports, one single spare room within walking distance of Lambeau Field is going for $999 a night, very small. Other individual properties

are said to be commanding a nightly rental price between 1,8,000 and $120,000 a night, depending on how big, from the Wausau Daily Herald. So just the room alone, you're sharing it with somebody for $1,000 bucks a night.

In that other one, yeah, there may be two bedrooms in that one, but it's definitely small. But that would suck to pay $1,000. You know, just drive the hour. Yeah, easily. I mean, I get it. You want to walk.

That'd be cool. Dude, it's like those, when I went to the golf tournament, you know, people were, the parking was crazy, right? Like, the nearest parking was so far away, and then you had to shuttle in. But there was a house right by the golf course that had a pretty decent yard, selling a spot for $40.

And there must have been 500 cars in their yard. And like, they banged. And they did it for three days in a row. Yeah. My buddy and I talked about that same thing. It's like the house near Razorback Stadium. They just sell all that parking. And it's $20, $30, $30.

And they can fit in $20. 30 cars. Hayday. Every weekend. I think they do that at Green Bay. That's kind of what I thought of. When you went to that event, where people dressed up like golfers.

You mean like spectators? Yeah. Yeah. That's kind of what you do. Huh. Again, I've only been to one golf event ever. Because when I played,

I didn't say, so yeah, I've only ever been as a fan to one golf event ever. And I think I just wore tennis shoes and shorts. Huh. But I wonder, because I see people wearing like spikes.

Oh, like they're playing? Like golf shoes. Oh, I didn't see that. I didn't look at their feet. But they were dressed in like golf pants, golf shirts. You know, the logo, the title is hats. You know, like, yeah, all that. Oh, yeah.

I saw a TikTok that was about that. It was like that golf's like the only sport that's like, you go and you're like waiting to be called in to play. You look like you're ready to go. Do you feel that you're too old, take a glove to a baseball game? No. Yeah. Oh.

Oh, I'm not. Yeah. I think so, too. Yeah. Really? Oh, but you know what? I'm sorry, I thought about me and my kids. Without your kids.

Oh, just me and you go. Nah, we can't take a glove, dude. Yeah. We catch it with our hands. Yeah. Although I have thought about like what do I do. Like, how do I catch it? I thought about taking my hat off and catching it with my hat.

Or do I just take it? You won't catch it with your hat. You don't think so? No. They'll just rip it right out of my hand. No, but it'll like, m-mm-hmm. Or it'll just hit the fabric. You got to be perfect.

It's got to hit right in the right part of the hat. So what do you, you would go hands? No, I get out of the way. I don't want to catch a ball. I have no interest in catching a foul ball. What do you mean? If it came right at you, you would just scoot over. You would be on TV looking like a little getting out of the way.

What's even worse is if you drop one. Yeah, that's true, too. It's worse to get out of the way than drop one. I don't care about a ball. I'm not going to break a finger. I give no craps about a ball. Maybe because I'm a bit jaded because we get to do some cool stuff. Sure.

But it's just a foul ball. I have no need to grab a foul ball. You're sitting right next to an old lady. the ball. Oh, I would try to save her. Okay. Yeah, no, no, that's different. That's different. You get out of the way. Let it happen. Even if a ball were coming at my wife, I would try to, or a kid, yes, but I'm saying just to catch a foul ball, I don't give two craps about that. What about a home run ball? World Series, game seven. Well, all that does not. Walk off. All that matters a little bit. Yeah. How's your boot? It's good. It's still here. I mean,

anything me too i'd ask the doctor if i can play golf and he said just hang hang on like just one more week you can do it but again you can't start playing golf immediately you have to walk for a week. I know, but people are willing to do that to be a cheerleader, though. That's kind of how they get away with it. Like, Charlotte Jones is on there talking about it. Like, it's such a privilege to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Who's Charlotte? Oh, Jerry's daughter. Yeah. Charlotte.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Huh. Okay. What else? That they get injured, like, pretty badly.

Like, afterwards, they do that split thing wherever they fall down to the ground, like total splits. Like, a lot of them have hip injuries after they're not cheerleaders anymore. Yeah, I mean, it's athletic. I mean, those cheerleaders, man. Like cheer, I'm saying cheer. They would get hardcore injured because they're doing flips and crap. And I would imagine most of them come from that background, right?

Some sort of day. Even dance when I was dancing. Yeah, these girls are dancers. They get injured hard. Yeah. ankles, knees. But it's crazy though. They don't get any of the other amenities. They don't have people like doctors that they can go see.

some amenities or something they could go see. Especially such a brand. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. A brand within a massive brand. Because, yeah, it's not like they're not profitable, too. They talk about how the cheerleaders bring in millions of dollars. What's up with the no touching rule? Yeah, if you go get a picture with the cheerleaders, they make you hold a football.

So there's this one point where it gets kind of creepy. They, like, show dudes like, hey, can I put my arm around you? And they have like a security guy with them like, nope, touch the football. So the guy in the picture has to hold the football. They can't put their arms around the cheerleaders. There's one episode where Why are you being creepy right now? I mean the creepers like

They ruined it for everyone No they didn't ruin it for everyone You shouldn't touch them It had to have started somewhere You shouldn't touch them No you can't put your arm around people for a picture Yes until creepster starts like Hey let me touch you

Yeah they ruined it They do a whole episode of this cheerleader Who gets touched by a photographer And they address all the issues They go along with that Katie did you watch it? Yeah I did What did you learn from it?

The biggest thing was the pay I kind of knew about the pay already though because I watched the reality show growing up and you know I was invested so I looked up all the stuff but yeah the just like the biggest thing that got me was they can't go up any size in their uniform like not even a little bit from the moment they get fitted from it they can't they can't let it out at all no like they can't put on weight no they can't and if they do they get you know in trouble or whatever happened but yeah they they are what year is this happening yeah exactly that's what it feels like it feels like they're back of the

90s some of the things they talk about they'll like be criticizing some of the girls like Oh, she's a little heavy in the face. It's like the 60s. Heavy in the face? Or they'll just flat out say, like, she's a great dancer, but she's not very attractive. What? Maybe she has a food and her jaws. She's hiding.

Like a chip on nuts in there. And then they have the creepy tour guy, too, who was saying, you know, all the cheerleaders have to sign this thing where they can't hook up with players. They don't have that for the tour guides. Oh, no, dude. He said that? That poor guy got put on the show. He started the no touch rule. Oh, God.

He's like, I'm the reason they have to hold of football. Yeah, that guy should not be saying that. but you think I would like it? I think you would like it. Give it a couple episodes. If you don't like the style of it, because it is kind of like a reality show a little bit. Just because it's cheerleader stuff.

I didn't like that show really when it was on CMT. It felt too reality trashy. It's less than that. And the thing is they don't really like fight with each other because they're so determined to try to become cheerleaders that they're also supportive. Like nobody's like, oh, this stupid girl, like I don't want her to make it. They're so supportive because it's so hard to make it.

They make it like 36 slots. I don't know that I'm sold into watching it. Yeah. I did love cheer, though, and all that's not the same. I thought cheer was awesome. Sure was really good. Do you watch cheer on Netflix? No.

Coach Monica? It was second season wasn't that good. I don't know if I watched second season. Maybe I did. I thought people forgot about it. Is that before or after that dude got in trouble? They talk about it in that second season. They do.

I don't think I'll watch it then. I love season one. Yeah. Season one was awesome. Yeah, season was awesome. Okay. I think we're done. Um, where do I want to go here?

You want to go home? I go home and play some pickleball? We cut the limb down, the big limb. Oh, you and I. We tried our best. Well, Eddie and I cleaned the tree with this big tall thing to play pickleball. Then I had to hire a tree service to come and cut a massive limb. Did they take the whole branch off?

They did. Okay, good. The problem is, it's not even that less of shade. We still have the big tree over the top. that shades the pickleball court, but like berries fall on it, birds poop on it. Kind of berries, strawberries? You don't want to eat these. Okay.

So it's kind of a mix. Do you want to fry under the sun or do you want to have shade and have to deal with the berries and the birds? Fry. Yeah, it's the elements. Fry. I want the shade. Really? I think so.

Because I can just take a broom and go, ch, ch, ch, or put a little tarp over it. It's only one half the court that gets it. Put a little tarp over it. Or even like a leaf blower, probably. That's a good point. Although the poop, I don't think you can leaf blow. It's kind of wet. You got to scrape that off.

No, no, the sauce was homemade. Oh. Okay. Any of it. Heck, even if the sauce isn't homemade, you just learn how to boil the crap and get it going. Exactly. You're good. That's a big deal, too.
