Self-care September is your reminder to slow down, check in with yourself, get off your phone, and maybe ask, why am I like this? I'm Jemisbeg, host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast, and this month we're helping you make sense of the person that you are becoming,
Starting point is 00:01:15 from setting boundaries and navigating friendships to understanding anxiety, confidence, relationships, and attachment. Sometimes our biggest decisions, without us even realizing it, aren't driven by what we truly want, but by what will prevent us from feeling lonely or being alone. Listen to the Psychology of Your 20s on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I survived nine months in captivity, and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them. I'm Elizabeth Smart, and these are the Survivor Files. Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable, abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced. These are stories about what it takes to make it out alive.

Starting point is 00:03:20 by State. This is a podcast called 25 Whistles talking football whistle. So yeah, it's stupid. But what did you expect it to be? Oh, Blunt. We do have a cool show because we'll talk to author John Talti in a little bit who wrote the book on Lane Kiffin. And like I said, I love Lane Kiffin now.
Starting point is 00:03:51 Only because I hate him so much. It's full, like, I'm into it. And they gave up, by the way. They said, okay, we won't sign any pros. There's two other spots. They just signed two other dudes. They don't want to get kicked out of the league. So what happens to the pros?
Starting point is 00:04:05 Those guys, they just go back and try to get on a practice squad? Oh, man. Not that they wouldn't have anyway, they might have, but they decided, and I would have too. If I could come back and play college again, not because it's just college, because they were going to make probably a couple million bucks versus 200,000, less than that on the practice squad. Yeah, and actually play, possibly won a championship with LSU. with how good they are.
Starting point is 00:04:27 It's all about the millions, though. Yeah, for sure. Like, that's all secondary. True. Very true. It's making 90 grand a year versus 2 million a year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:34 So, yeah, laying lost. But we'll talk to John coming up in a little bit. He's got a book. We'll do our Super Bowl predictions coming up as well. The game last night was interesting and the note that I made was
Starting point is 00:04:46 they had the Pearl Jam guitarist play the National Anthem. Mike McCready. Don't do that. Don't do that. I know that's your guy. Yeah, what about him? And you love Pearl Jam,
Starting point is 00:04:56 so you're obviously. going to be positive about it. Oh, it gave me chills. He was doing too many, like solos that weren't. I don't like when singers do runs that aren't a part of it, and I don't like all the solos that aren't a part of the song. So just do the song. Do the song, because there would be a part, be like,
Starting point is 00:05:11 yeah, that's where you got to do the wind bar. No, it wasn't even with Jimi Hendrix. It was more. It was too much. He was not the same melody. No need to show off of the anthem. You did it. It sounded great.
Starting point is 00:05:26 It's too much dicking around. What? That's crazy, dude. I watched that and I got chills. Because it was your guy or because it was his guy? Yeah, I mean, Mike McCready, Pearl Jam, all those guys. I love Pearl Jam. And to see Mike McCrady represent Seattle and America with his guitar was so cool to me.
Starting point is 00:05:46 But I guess you hated it. As someone who likes music, he can play guitar, obviously. But if it were a singer doing the same thing, I say the same thing. If someone's like, I don't know, oh, whoa, whoa, ho, whoa, home of the bray. I hate that, too. That's not your song to take liberties with.
Starting point is 00:06:08 You want to know what's so cool is I've seen him play that live. Because in some of his concert, during Yellow Ledbetter, he'll go into a solo into the Star Spangled Banner. So I've heard that same version. So, yes, I can understand why hearing that at first, and like, oh, that's kind of, oh, it's too much. It's not about, no, no. That's how I feel about that song with anybody doing it.
Starting point is 00:06:30 It wasn't just about him and his performance. No liberties with the national anthem. Stapleton a few years ago, he just played it straight, right? Straightforward. That one gave me chills. Straight forward. The song is meant to be saying about America. Not for you to do a little dance on the side.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Amen. Okay, guys, relax. And I made a note to talk about that because I was so annoyed by it. And you knew that you were going to annoy me too. And it was like, in the home He did a little taping He's putting in like all the famous riffs in musical history
Starting point is 00:07:01 He goes into even flow So the game quickly from last night Yeah, yeah, that was tough Yeah Not a great game No And Sam Donnell gets heard immediately And at first
Starting point is 00:07:13 I didn't know why it was heard at first They were just saying lower body for a minute It turns out it was his hip hip Yeah, because he was limping What are they saying now Yeah, so now they're saying he's expected to miss just a few weeks. So for sure, already out for the second game. We expected that.
Starting point is 00:07:29 But they said that they dodged a bullet, basically, and he should be out just a few weeks. But what's the injury? But they're still waiting to get an MRI for more results as of we record this right now. Yeah, what's the injury? It's just as a hip injury. Oh. Had one of those.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Like, just tweaked it? Like, how bad was your... Generic hip, no, not that bad. It was just a hip injury. But you could just say that. It's just hurt it a little bit. Yeah. That's fine the next day.
Starting point is 00:07:51 So I had the same thing until they diagnosed him fully. I had the same injury. Did you get refunds on all your bets? No, because I had bet a parlay of Sam Darnold and Drake May both passing from over 230 together. And I don't think Drake May hit 230. He was not even close the last time I looked. Got it. But if you would have, you would have gotten paid half.
Starting point is 00:08:11 I would have got paid half. Got it. It says the hip is intact. It's more of a muscle thing. So that's what they're looking for MRI. It said it's more of a muscle thing. That's what literally it says. Whoever that rider is.
Starting point is 00:08:20 It's more of a muscle thing. And something. Yeah. I hate to see anybody get hurt. Yeah, that was terrible. And the first game of the season and the Super Bowl champions. But let's go, what's his name, Drew Locke? Drew Locke.
Starting point is 00:08:35 That sounds right. I mean, let's go Drew Locke, dude. I mean, you came back and won that game. Yeah, and Drake made through three picks. Yeah. That helped. Yeah, we also lost a game. But what helps me, not that you guys are asking,
Starting point is 00:08:48 but what it helps me is, because you're a Patriot. Patriots fan. Yeah, I'm a Patriots fan, but last year, nobody remembers. Great year we had, week one, we lost two, the Raiders. Yeah. At home, in an ugly loss. Okay. And he made it to the Super Bowl. And we made it to the Super Bowl. We lost three games all year. So two more after that all year. So I'm like, okay, it's week one. The difference is that team last year, year one coach, a quarterback finding himself. This, you know who you are. Same coach, same team. I don't think that an, I get it.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I'd hold on to hope, too. Yeah. But Seattle's also great defensively. Their defense is nasty. And I will say, Drake may look like he had PTSD from the Super Bowl. Oh. Like, he, as long as we don't play the Seahawks, I'll feel okay. I liked his hair, though.
Starting point is 00:09:34 It's a little longer, though. It's a little longer. I just noticed the picks. Look a little longer to me. He's on the sideline before the game while the guy was taking liberties with the national that I didn't like, and they were showing everybody. I was like, yeah, Drake May's hair looks a little longer. So, yeah, it was rough. Kind of a boring game.
Starting point is 00:09:48 I, at halftime, my wife and I watched the show. because there's football Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Wait, you watched like a halftime show? No, we watched a show. Oh, okay. We went over and watched Dark Matter. You know who played the halftime show? Was there a halftime show?
Starting point is 00:10:01 Yeah. Who? Mike McCrady. Mike McCrady in the Soundgarden guitarist with some girl. They went full Seattle, huh? Yeah, they went all Seattle. Wait, but what were they, what were they, what song were they? I don't know what the, I think the girl's an artist.
Starting point is 00:10:13 I don't know who she is, but they were their, those two guys were her guitarists. Did you watch it? Nah, you can kind of see it in the background, and then I follow Pearl Jam on Instagram when they played it. It was Taylor Momson. Oh, I know Taylor Momson. The pretty reckless. Yeah, she was, she's in the pretty reckless. Leet Singer of that. And then she was also in the Jim Carrey version of the green guy. Grinch. She's a kid. Oh, really? Blonde a little blind kid. Yeah. Oh, there you go. She played the halftime show. That movie's not called the Green Guy. The Grinch. They have the green guy that sold Christmas. But that's funny because the mask was also green, right? Yeah, but he didn't still Christmas. Yeah. He did not. He did not. The NFL for the first half.
Starting point is 00:10:49 in 20 years will not have a rookie quarterback starting week one. Whoa. Because think of who the rookie quarterbacks are. Fernando. Really Mendoza would be the one, and he's not going to start because Kurt Cousins is. Right. But the rest, like Nussmeyer's not starting. Yeah. The Rams, he's, I think he's third string because Stetson Bennett is second.
Starting point is 00:11:12 That's right. Which is, they didn't. Correct. Right. Who's starting in Arizona? Kobe Bresset Oh wow, okay Because when a Carson Beck is there
Starting point is 00:11:23 But I don't even know is he a backup Why do you keep talking about Carson Beck? You brought him up like Yes, in the freaking Hall of Fame game No, no, no, all preseason dude He played great Then he may end up being the starter Eventually at some point
Starting point is 00:11:34 I'd be willing, if that's a bet somewhere I would place that bet That he eventually starts this season I think the bet would be He starts by what week Yeah I don't know if there's one Does he eventually start this season
Starting point is 00:11:46 Too many words Drew Aller. Yeah, Drew Aller is not going to start He's in Pittsburgh, right? Cade Clubnick, yeah. But Clubnick is the backup in New York for the Jets behind Gino's, so that's a possibility
Starting point is 00:11:57 he could start at some point. Clubnick's funny because all the comments from Jets fans that didn't watch college going, this is our guy. This is our guy. Without seeing him play college. Yeah. But, yeah, it's the only time of 20 years
Starting point is 00:12:11 that a rookie has not started. Wow. Game one. That's probably a good thing for them. And for us as viewers. Oh yeah, I agree. Right. I mean, if you're Arizona, I know they paid Jacobi percent.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Yeah. And you want to lose every game. Maybe you start your rookie. They say that they don't tank. Like, they swear that that's not a thing. You can't tank as a player because you have a contract. Right. A lot of these guys are trying to get paid.
Starting point is 00:12:41 You don't want to tank as a coach because you may not have a job. But what you're tanking as is affecting what personnel are getting to play. who is injured, like when Max Crosby doesn't play the last three games because he's got an injury, he really doesn't. Or it's so small he could still play, but they, they, the GM or the decision makers that actually do want a worse record, they will try to affect it by having weaker personnel be available to the coaches. And then those weak personnel, though, are playing as hard as they possibly can because they want another job. That's interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:14 And it's hard to get 22 people to tank. Yeah. It's hard in the NBA. But in the NBA, they don't tank except for the players don't play bad. They just put in the worst players. Yeah. So it's not tanking isn't, the players go out there going where we're going to suck. No, they're playing as hard as they possibly can.
Starting point is 00:13:30 But what they do is they limit the amount of minutes for the good or if they get in at all. Yeah, they put in the worst players. Baseball too. That's where managers and DMs get in trouble or getting fights with each other because the manager's like, I'm getting fired, but you're keeping your job. But I had to play the guys you wanted me to play. That doesn't make sense. Everybody's team this week, because everybody's playing now.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Your team is a Patriots. You did lose. But what are you doing? Because it's weird you're not playing Sunday because it's like football is really started and you got your game. So yours isn't even until a week and a half. Oh my gosh. I know that's the worst part. We had to wait like 10, 11 days for the next one to try to rebound.
Starting point is 00:14:05 I'll be a, but I guess the most, is that what you're answering? Well, I mean, you're not really a Tennessee fan. No, you're not a Tennessee fan. Oh, the Vols? Are you going to claim it? Yeah, GBO, baby. Let's go. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Okay, then what game are you personally invested in that has not happened yet? Oh, Texas and Ohio State. Just because you're interested in that game? Yes. Just because I love college football and those are two great teams. Yeah, and fairly. His team already played. Yeah, I get that.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Eddie. There is no other game that interests me at all this week. Other than Sunday night, when the Cowboys go to New York City and play the Giants. Dude, I've been waiting all year for this. like all year for this game. I am so excited. We're going to find out who the Cowboys are too. This is it.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Don't put it all on week one. Why not? Please don't. Oh. I'm telling you right now, do not do that. You got 17 games, bro. I know, dude. It's so exciting to me that it's finally here and the Cowboys get to play and it's going
Starting point is 00:15:05 to be on a Sunday night because they get center stage. Like there's no other game that's, you know, like no fantasy is distracting me. It's going to be all Cowboys. Also, you're playing a bit of a wild card with the Giants. It's one of the teams that you kind of have an idea of who and what every team is going into the year. But you got a new coach. You got year two of Jackson Dart, who is healthy right now. Year two of Cam Scataboo.
Starting point is 00:15:34 The Giants have a good front for defensively. So who knows what the Giants are going to be this year? That's interesting to me. and I hope you guys run. We own them in our league. I hope we just run them, right? Just kill the Cowboys from the very beginning. But the Giants are one of those wildcard teams
Starting point is 00:15:52 where we really don't know what they are. Yeah, and with Harbaugh now, you're like, they're at least going to be stable, you think. Mr. Consistency. Right. Mike. Texas game for sure. Huge Cowboys fan, but that game is going to determine a lot, I feel.
Starting point is 00:16:04 If they don't win that game, I don't think it's their year. Texas, I don't either because just for both teams, because Nightmares, conference schedules. Are they in Texas? Texas? Are they playing in Austin? Even looking at Ohio State's schedule. They'll probably be favored.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Texas is favored in this game because it's in Austin. They're a point and a half favorite. But Ohio State will probably be favored or close to in every game. But they have to play Oregon. Will you pull up to Ohio State's schedule? For whoever loses this game, it's going to be tough. Yeah, Texas is a point-and-half favorite. Number one, Ohio State,
Starting point is 00:16:38 number four, Texas. And you're not going? No. Did you even look at tickets? No. That'd be crazy about it. go later in the season when it's not as hot yes I feel that man outside
Starting point is 00:16:50 so they got Kent State this is Ohio State after Texas then Illinois It's a tough one And Illinois that probably won't lose to but Illinois is sneaky Go ahead always at Iowa Again a little more sneaky than Illinois But go ahead The Maryland at home
Starting point is 00:17:05 Sucks At Indiana Okay Okay that could be an L At USC USC supposedly is a lot better this year Then Oregon, so that's three in a row. Dang.
Starting point is 00:17:17 And then they close out with Nebraska, Northwestern, and the Michigan last. So there's three games that they could possibly lose. I'm not going to count. The Iowa game could be sneaky. But I mean, there's three and a half games there. They could possibly lose. Who would they play at the end there? He said Michigan was the last, but who was before that?
Starting point is 00:17:34 Nebraska and Northwestern. Nothing. Yeah. Did you know what Chip Kelly is that Northwestern? I saw him nearly that. I was like, what? Not even the coordinator, but he's just there as a consultant? Offensive assistant
Starting point is 00:17:45 Yeah, they call them Senior analysts Analysts, yes Is that what it is? Analyst, yeah Sounds like a good job Would you pull up to Texas schedule? Yeah
Starting point is 00:17:52 Because I know Texas has got a monster run-in coming up later with the Arkansas Razor bag Oh, there's an L in Austin That's the game I'm going to go to Yeah, you should be You want to guarantee to win
Starting point is 00:18:03 Okay, so UTSA after Ohio State And then at Tennessee Okay, it just depends That freshman five-star quarterback looks really good Tennessee has but again he's a freshman. Yeah, he just stood. Then Oklahoma at home.
Starting point is 00:18:17 That game, that's not at home, it's in Dallas. That could be a disaster. Go ahead. Florida at home? They're going to be better than people think. Ole Miss at home. Might be really good. We don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:30 That Louisville game was not good. No. But if you haven't heard the story of the Patriots and the Raiders, then you've not heard a story because they went to the Super Bowl and they lost to the Raiders week won. Oh, that's right. I just heard that.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Yeah, no, if you haven't heard that story. Great story. They'll write a book about it one day. Okay. And then Mississippi State at home. Okay. At Missouri. At LSU.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Yeah, be a good one. There you go. And then I can see Arkansas Razorbacks. Yeah. And then at Texas A&M to finish off the season. So I could see two Ls there. Yeah, it's an important game. Good one.
Starting point is 00:19:06 I have the Arkansas game. They're playing at Utah. Arkansas number 20, Utah. Utah is a 12-and-a-half-point favorite. I will have to watch that while at the Brooks and Dunn concert. Fun late game, right? 9 p.m. or something? Concerts this weekend?
Starting point is 00:19:18 Mm-hmm. It's on Saturday. If Arkansas beats Utah, I give all three guys $100 and I get here on Monday. Really? Yeah. So note, don't bet on that game. I'm wearing my year. That's already taken care of.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Yeah, just like, you know, I want us all to have joy if that happens. Love that. Deal. There's no chance. There is a chance. There's always a chance. And also there's a chance. I was watching some Utah breakdown.
Starting point is 00:19:39 There's a chance. But there's a reason that's a 12 and a half point spread. And I'm not touching it betting. Huh. I might take Arkansas 12 and a half. But I don't think I'm going to touch it betting. So, yeah, it's back. We're back, though, maybe.
Starting point is 00:19:51 We're back. We're back. The weight is over. Football is here, and so is Draft Kings. Draft Kings is now live in all 50 states. One app, every sport, nationwide. On the new podcast Solita, we share the messy reality of traveling alone as a woman. I can wait four hours for the next bus or this random dude is offering me a ride on his motorcycle. I chose option B. I'm Julie Pinero, and I travel by myself because it's a rare space where I can say yes without asking anyone else first. I'm on a mission to reclaim the word Solita. trading the pity for possibility.
Starting point is 00:21:49 Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people, and they were like, you smiled at us. Not a lot of people smile around here. It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is, and not the lies you're sold about it. It can be a time where you push your limits, change your mind, or wake up to a new version of yourself. So whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too nervous to book your first trip, I hope you listen to Solita. on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When I was 14 years old, I was kidnapped and held captive for nine months. I survived, and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them.
Starting point is 00:22:34 I'm Elizabeth Smart, and these are the Survivor Files. I just remember this low, taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything. Every week I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable. I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me. I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed, and I just started screaming. They are abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced. But these aren't stories about what's taken from them. There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive.
Starting point is 00:23:13 Listen to the Survivor Files with Elizabeth Smart on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, this is Kylie Breakman. Angel Geratana. Jeremy Colhane. Patrick McDonald. And we're the hosts of the Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists Podcast. Starting point is 00:23:38 What I try to do is faux journal. I don't know. Have you guys heard of faux journal? Yeah, it's reading. It's called reading. So we don't like to use that word anymore. Okay. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class?
Starting point is 00:23:53 No! I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore, 14. That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday, and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30. No way. You have to come to the last bookstore, though.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks on Halloween. It's right up next to the microphone. I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit each other. You never seen Italy so quiet as when the Pope gets up to wink on Halloween.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Listen to artists on artists on artists on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, let's welcome in John Talti National College Sports writer for CBS Sports. Author, he's got a big book coming out called Lane Being Lane, which I'm going to show you guys on camera. It's the story of Lane Kiffin, college football's agent of chaos. Hey, John, I want to start with this first. So we planned to have you in the studio, and we couldn't say this to you when we were like, don't come, but somebody was murdered in our building yesterday. Jeez.
Starting point is 00:25:04 So that's why, so I feel bad, and luckily we caught you before you left, and you had to be like, man, why do they move this to Zoom? And now it's finally made the news. But I don't know if we'd be allowed up here, but somebody was murdered. Like, there was a gun, it's the craziest thing. We can't believe it.
Starting point is 00:25:21 So a little bit of me felt guilty for canceling you coming up here, but then I thought when I finally was able to talk to you and I said there was a murder or you would understand? 100%. Okay. Yeah, I appreciate you healthy.
Starting point is 00:25:32 Yeah, and I appreciated like Kevin giving me the heads up because I was just about to get the car. I live in Birmingham. I was about to drop in Nashville. I was like, okay, like I was excited to meet you guys. in person, but understood, of course. And now obviously I understand that. Yes. So, wow. A crazy situation. We want you to come up at some point. I just didn't even know if we'd get in
Starting point is 00:25:50 the building and literally 80 feet from us. Some dude was murdered. Our producer found his body, like walked up on his body. That's how crazy it was. That's insane. So don't hate us. That's my point. Don't hate us. It has nothing to do with you. It had to do with murder. Okay. Now to what we're talking about. And so I'm in the middle of a different book right now called The Wager. I don't know if you ever read that, but it's about a ship. But when I finish that, and I don't say this because mostly I'm not full of crap. I do say a lot of things, but I'm not full of crap. I think I'm going to read this because I love Lane Kiffin. I hate him, but because he makes me hate him so much, like I can appreciate the love for him. So why did you
Starting point is 00:26:28 decide to write this book on Lane Kiffin? I think you kind of hit on it right there. It's he's got that love him or hate him. You watch him, right? And he is the most polarized. in person, I think, in college sports, which is exciting to kind of dive into him in a deeper way of, like, what makes this guy tick? Why does he do the things that he does? And I think especially like, you know, Bobby, I know obviously you're a guy who understands college football in the SEC. Like, this guy has just had a one-of-one career from the high highs to the low lows, obviously the first person to be a head coach at three SEC schools. But just even the way that he can get to, you know, close to the mountain top. And then.
Starting point is 00:27:08 and the way that he seems to leave every place he's ever worked at. Like, I always thought there's got to be something behind the scenes happening there. And so that's a big reason why I wanted to try to understand, like, why is Lane Giff in the way he is? And why does he do these things that seem to both delight and disgust us? Would you say, and again, I'm going to be honest with our listeners, I just got the book. I haven't read it yet. So I'm going to ask questions. I'm not going to pretend like I read it because I just got it.
Starting point is 00:27:33 But I'm going to ask questions that may be stupid since I haven't read the book. So please bear with me. would you say the highlight is getting that Raiders job when he was like 13 and then obviously he was fired from being the head coach of the Raiders but would that be the high for him if you were to go let's look at his career? I think it could be but I think it's also like such a Wayne Kiffin type situation where he had people in his life telling him don't take that job but he was driven especially at that age and I think he still is now it's about a 20 year difference but was driven so much by ambition and the idea of going from being the offensive coordinator at USC
Starting point is 00:28:10 to being the head coach of the Raiders was crazy. And it was kind of almost fun looking back at the headlines at that time where even back then people thought, this is crazy. And he had gone for a job, actually, the University of Minnesota job and didn't get it and yet somehow got the Raiders job. And there's a great story in the book where the Raiders actually initially wanted to hire Steve Sarkeesian. and they sent one of their guys to try to find Sarkeesia,
Starting point is 00:28:38 and he kind of ghosted Al Davis. This guy's trying to find Sark. He gets Lane Kiffin on the phone. He's like, where's Sark? What's going on? Lane's kind of playing coy with him, because Lane was kind of lined up to be Sark's offensive coordinator of the Raiders. And eventually this guy, I interviewed for the book, said,
Starting point is 00:28:55 well, Lane, like, would you be interested in the job? And Lane was like, sure, yeah, I think I would be. And so they went from wanting Sark to somehow ending up with Lane Kiffin. and people around the Raiders told me really from day one, they realized this might not end well. And it ends in one of the all-time press conferences where Al Davis has a projector as he explains all the reasons why he hates Lane Kiffin.
Starting point is 00:29:20 That's crazy. Do you think that Lane, you can't answer this question right or wrong, but do you think Lane would be where he is now if his dad wasn't Monty Kiff and people giving him a bit of credit for what, not what his dad had done just in, because was Monty a defensive coordinator? Okay, for what Monty had done in his career, but also that Monty was known as like a stable guy and they assume Lane would probably be a product of that. I think there's a lot to that.
Starting point is 00:29:47 I think you can look at it in three ways really. One, obviously, just growing up in that environment, right? Like Monty is an all-time ball coach. Like he was obsessive ball watching tape all the time. And Lane used to love like trying to stay up and watch Monday night football with his dad and be able to pick his brain, even as a little kid. So just growing up, I think, in that environment, you know, prepares you to potentially be a football coach.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Certainly, Monty opened doors all throughout Wayne's early career. And, you know, we get into it in the book, but just like how he ends up at Fresno State for college, how he gets his first graduate assistant job afterwards, how he gets his first NFL job. Those are all of people that Monty Kiffin was good friends with. And so Monty got him, you know, opportunity after opportunity, to start. And then to your final point, absolutely. And it played a role in him getting the Tennessee
Starting point is 00:30:36 job and also the USC job where they thought, all right, if we have Monty Kiffin with Lane, that'll kind of like tamp down some of Lane's craziness. Monty's a great guy. He's very personable. He's great on defense. If we paired the brain of Monty Kiffin and the stableness of Monty Kiffin with Lane's kind of wild and crazy offense, we're going to win big. And it never fully came to fruition, but certainly there were some moments there, some Tennessee, USC, where it looked pretty good at a, you know, at a time. And it's a big reason why, you know, Lane Kiffin is who he is is because of Monique Kiffin. Did you happen to see Lane Kiffin's half-time speech that was leaked with the guy recording the ground? I did. I don't know if anyone has verified that it is
Starting point is 00:31:18 actually real, but certainly seems like we're all taking it as if it's real. But yeah, I did see it. It was entertaining. I am a pretty good sniff or outer of AI. So I did, it didn't even even resonate to me that it might be fake because it was shot so grandie. But again, it could have been so good. But if that was Lane, which I would say it was, that was awesome. Like I wanted to go run through a wall for that dude giving that speed. It was amazing, right? It was. And it's a side of Lane that we frankly do not see very often. And it's something that talking to former players and guys who have worked with him, like that's not typically Lane's style. He's a bit more to the point. Obviously, he can get guys fired up. And some of the words he used.
Starting point is 00:31:59 used did not surprise me at all. It is kind of direct. But, you know, he's not always the big pump him up guy. It's why he's had Eddo Gerard with him, you know, throughout his career at multiple different stops. Like, Eddo's the guy who's like ripping off his shirt and wants you to like run through a wall. Like that's typically been others role rather than Lane. But clearly like Lane, you know, is growing and evolving. And I think that specifically that video, if assuming it's real, showed a side of Lane that we frankly have not seen very often. and at least from what I saw on social media and things like that, like almost universal approval rating.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Like that's the kind of lane that I think people really enjoy. Yeah. And I said on the show, because again, I'm not a lane guy, but I'm starting to be more of a lane guy because I feel like Lane is now embracing what everybody feels he is, right or wrong,
Starting point is 00:32:49 which is the bad guy. And the fact that if so, I love Hollywood Hogan. Now, Hulk Hogan, America's hero. Hollywood Hogan, best bad guy ever. And now if Lane is just embracing that role, of the bad guy.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Like, that makes me enjoy what he's doing. Do you feel like it got to a point with him now that he's just had to go, okay, if everybody feels this way, I'm just going to say that that's just me. I think he's resisted it in the past, right? And I think maybe he realized between how he left Ole Miss, the vanity fair piece, in which he talked about, you know, some of the racial issues that he felt like impacted his recruiting, you know, at Ole Miss. Like, those things kind of piling up on each other seem to lead to.
Starting point is 00:33:29 maybe more people disliking Lane Kiffin than in the past. And so it seems like he's embracing this idea of being a villain. But maybe kind of like Hulk Hogan, it's interesting is that Lane always views that there's a path back to being a hero. And even, I think, both publicly and certainly privately, some of the people he's talked to that I talked to, he always views that like, if I can just win enough, I can be the hero again. So deep down, I don't think he wants to be the villain, but I think he's smart enough in this moment to realize being the villain can be fun. And doing the us against everyone has been a successful sports trope for a long time for a reason. And I think if he can kind of play the everyone hates LSU, everyone hates me, let's show them who we really are, which we got snippets of in that halftime speech, I think it can be very successful. And it does seem to be turning some people to his side.
Starting point is 00:34:20 It seems to be working pretty well for him so far. Yeah, I hate LSU and I never like Lane Kiffin. And I only hate them because I'm from Arkansas again and we hate LSU and we hate LSU and we hate Texas more. though, but that's not what we're talking about. But again, when I love somebody that just is consistent with a strong message. Like, it doesn't matter. And I feel like he now, that's so interesting that he feels like there's always a path to, we'll call it redemption, like regardless of where he is. Have you spent any time with him? And did you spend time with him in this book at all? Yeah, I was around him some. And I covered Alabama for a long time. And so kind of was in Tuscal.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Kluza, Birmingham for, you know, the early years of Lane at Alabama, which were, uh, were a wild time in a lot of ways. But I think what's interesting, Bobby, is that I think really if you go back to the, the Raiders days, he's been trying to sell this idea of like redemption and evolution pretty much at every step, right? I think he realizes like, maybe I made a mistake. It seems like every single time he leaves a place, it ends horribly. And then he's got to clean it up somehow. And he tries to sell, I'm matured. churing, I'm evolving. And then it happens again, and then he does it again. And so it was kind of interesting to go back through history just, and even when I've interviewed him in the past, like,
Starting point is 00:35:37 him trying to sell this idea of like, I'm growing up, I'm evolving, even going back to, you know, 2010s, 2015, 2016, etc. And so I think he's still doing that. I think he's still trying to redeem himself in some ways. I think he was able to do a lot of that kind of PR cleaning up in Oxford. I think was in a pretty good place. And then the way he left, I think, damaged a lot of that burned a lot of bridges certainly back in oxford and so just trying to kind of clean it up again here but uh i think one thing for it's clear of lane kiffin is like again there's going to be some great moments along the way but you can almost have to sign up knowing that at some point it's going to end horribly uh and i think if you're an osu fan you're hoping maybe we'll
Starting point is 00:36:18 at least get a national championship out of it before this thing gets weird just going through the memory here. Is this only positive departure, FAU? It is. And what's interesting, and we get into a little bit in the book, and it's nothing like bad, but like it got a little weird at the end of FAU too. And just the thing is just like, they just were not covered the way Bobby, we cover the SEC, the way we cover Tennessee, the way we cover the USC famous tarmac fire, excuse me. FAU, like, they were just happy to have them. They were just like desperate for attention. They were desperate for a guy who could give him some juice. They love the Lane experience in a lot of ways. But I can tell you, at the end there, when he was interviewing for multiple jobs, including actually Arkansas,
Starting point is 00:37:03 if you remember, there was a time where Arkansas was in the mix with Lane Kiffin before he ultimately went to Ole Miss. And people there at the time were telling me, like, he's off in the side field taking calls during practice, talking to his agent, trying to talk to coaches about coming with them to either Arkansas or Ole Miss, like the week of the conference USA championship games. So like that didn't get a lot of attention. They still wanted. won the game. It didn't matter. But it had the potential to get a little weird. Certainly if it was a bigger school. And we saw that play out, of course, of Ole Miss, you know, last cycle where it got very weird at the end. I mean, a lot of hurt feelings along the way. So I'm a pretty big booster
Starting point is 00:37:42 at Arkansas. And we had Lane. And one of my really good friends, and on the staff at Arkansas, and that's when Lane took the Ole Miss job after he had already told us at Arkansas he was taking that job and then they fired did you know that story and not say it? So I didn't know the factor and here's the interesting story you probably know this but maybe your listeners don't.
Starting point is 00:38:11 He had a connection to the Ole Miss golf coach and so when Arkansas was happening and he was telling Arkansas I'm coming. Now there are people around him who were I guess maybe skeptical maybe if that was the only opportunity, he would take it. But he wanted to make a run at Ole Miss before he, I guess, was all in on Arkansas. So he had a connection to the Ole Miss golf coach and reached out to Chris Malloy, tried to say, hey, can you do anything?
Starting point is 00:38:34 Can you get me in the mix for this job? He went to at the time a brand new athletic director, Keith Carter, had just gotten bumped up from the interim. And it was like, hey, we need to think about, you know, Lane Kiffin. And there was skepticism about doing it. One thing, which you might know is Bobby, but the, you know, Manning family, not the biggest fans of Lane Giffin, from my understanding.
Starting point is 00:38:55 Archie is still a huge deal at Ole Miss. He was I guess they gauge his opinion. It was not in favor of hiring Lane Giffin. So it was a massive risk for Ole Miss to do it. And ultimately, and it's kind of funny looking back on it, they had this kind of conversation and
Starting point is 00:39:11 one of their top boosters said, we need a rock star right now at Ole Miss. We need someone who's going to juice up the base. We need a rock star. And they got one in Link Giffin and all the best and maybe worst ways of what a rock star can do. But they wanted to ultimately go down that path to juice the base. But yeah, you're right. I mean, he was telling people at Arkansas, I'm coming. And if he didn't maybe get that almost golf coach to intervene on his behalf, he could have been
Starting point is 00:39:34 Arkansas's head coach. I was told it was done and then because they needed money. And so I gave them money. And I never got my money back. And we didn't even get them. How stupid is that? I never got my money. I only gave it for Lane. I never got it back, John. Yeah, I think you got Jip there. I got, yes, yes. It would have been like a discounted, like, hey, I'm sorry, we didn't get you, and Kiffin, we're going to give you your money back. We got Sam Pittman instead. So, we'll roll it further for you.
Starting point is 00:40:00 The parallels between Tennessee, it felt very, you know, leaving Cleveland going to the Ravens, you know, late night, or just any of this where people just kind of leave and don't say anything and then everybody hates you after, it felt very that. And all my Tennessee friends have a dislike. for Lane. That being said, the Ole Miss thing, the fans also hate Lane as well. Like, he's done that twice. He has. And I was in Oxford the day he left. And so I was there at the airport where I don't know if I've ever seen more middle fingers aimed at anybody walking in the airplane. They're like kids walking to the plane and people are flipping them off. I mean, it was like,
Starting point is 00:40:43 it was the full SEC experience in every way. And I think that's what's like, again, you wonder like, why write a book about Lane Kiffin? It is moments like that because, and I think even Lane would probably say this, like, when you evoke such a visceral reaction to your departure, it means they cared, right? And I think that is, like, Ole Miss was so
Starting point is 00:41:03 all in on Lane Kiffin. And you could argue, like, their branding really became much more about Lane Kiffin than anything else. Like, it became the Lane Kiffin University with Ole Miss, you know, attached to it. And so when he ultimately left after selling this idea of like, I needed Oxford more than it,
Starting point is 00:41:19 needed me and I grew up in Oxford. People really bought that and felt very betrayed when he ultimately left. And it is kind of a repeat of Tennessee and the way that he left there and the strong reaction in Knoxville with people burning, I think, mattresses and painting the rock with nasty things about Lane Kiffin. And that's two SEC fan bases right there that are always going to dislike the guy. And that doesn't even count just your general rivals who don't like usually the head coach of their rival school. So he's by far the most interesting guy in the SEC at this point and certainly, you know, evokes the strongest reactions of anyone in college football, in my opinion.
Starting point is 00:41:59 I have three questions left. How do you feel Pete Golding feels about Lane Kiffin? He's played very nice publicly. And, you know, Dave, I think he said all the right things. Now, you know, sometimes you hear different things behind the scenes. But I think Pete's just like, he's just a ball coach, man. And I think he's just like, I'm staying out of the drama. I'm going to do my thing.
Starting point is 00:42:20 I'm going to just try to do everything I can to be successful. And, you know, I think like he appreciates that Lane, he was able to bring him to Ole Miss. This is, you know, he's got Mississippi roots, obviously, Delta State guy. I think it was very important to him and his family to be back in Mississippi, be in Oxford. So I think he's appreciative of that. But there's a moment where last season, Lane Kiffin, I believe it was after the,
Starting point is 00:42:47 Oklahoma game where they won where he was like basically turned to Pete was like we could go to Florida right now if we want to. And Pete essentially said like, I didn't come here for you. I came here for me and I'm staying here for me. I'm not just following you. So there was certainly some divide and some stuff that happened behind the scenes. And we detail it in the book, but it was an all out battle between LSU and Ole Miss during the transfer portal. Those guys were duking it out for players. Golden was having to do everything he could to try to hold on to guys like Trinad Chamble. and Kiwan Lacey while also preparing for playoff games. So there was some bad blood in that moment.
Starting point is 00:43:22 Again, I think they're trying to let sleeping dogs lie. But there certainly was some friction after Lane left, and his staff was trying to do all it could to raid Ole Miss's best players. Why did Sabin hire Lane? And what was that relationship really like? So the story that has always been told was that he realized, and that they use a car analogy that, like, our offense is a Mercedes, but it's about to drive off a cliff.
Starting point is 00:43:50 That's always been the story that I've told. So I think he, Nick Saban realized, hey, the game's changing. I don't like it. I mean, you can remember, like, he used to complain about the hurry up, no huddle offense. He hated that stuff. And I think he was like, well, I'm trying to stop it. I'm trying to get real changes. It's not happening.
Starting point is 00:44:09 I might as well get my own guy who can do this. And so there was a common denominator there. They have the same agent who's Jimmy Sexton, who, many believe the most powerful person in college sports. And so he got those guys together. Wayne initially just came in to kind of spend a week or so as Alabama did its bull prep and ultimately Sabin decided, I need to make a change. Let's hire Lane Kiffin.
Starting point is 00:44:30 And how did the relationship work out? I mean, it was friction pretty much from day one. And those guys are just very different. And it's kind of funny to see them interact with each other now. It's almost like I compare Sabin to like that grandfather who like can kind of laugh about their kid being like a wild man growing up. It's funnier now, but in the moment, it was terrible. And, you know, you have Nick Saban who expects everyone to do it a certain way.
Starting point is 00:44:54 Like, this is the process. This is how we do things. And Lane Kiffin's like that little kid who just keeps asking why. Well, why are we doing this? Why not do that? What about this? And as you can imagine, as a parent, you're like, just stop asking me questions. Just do the thing, right?
Starting point is 00:45:07 And I think that's how Saban reacted to him at times. And it got bad at times. You know, there was a Vanity Fair excerpt about my book that can. out recently that details some of the stuff. But, you know, Wayne Kiffin had some, some off-the-field things happening during that time in Tuscaloosa that Nick Saban heard about, didn't love. That created additional friction between those two guys. So it was a, I think, a mutual beneficial partnership. They won a national championship together. He evolved Alabama's offense that when you paired it with that defense felt nearly unstoppable. But did those guys ever love working with each other?
Starting point is 00:45:44 No. But they both appreciate. that they could get something out of each other. And certainly now that it's been a decade since they had to work together, it's easier to remember the good moments and not all the moments when Nick Saban was in Link Giffin's face screaming at him. Joey Freshwater, do you talk about him? We do. So, I mean, you know the stories, obviously. It's been part of, I think, the internet, I don't know, discussion point for a long time. And I talked to people who were there at that time. And I because one person put it to me, like, the Joey Freshwater stuff got out there for a reason. But he was asking those things.
Starting point is 00:46:23 And I don't know this is 100% true. It's actually not even in the book. But someone told me this after I wrote the book, that the Joey Freshwater name comes from, he had a friend in college. And that was the name on his college roommate's fake ID. It was Joey Freshwater. So all the way back when he was in college, somebody had a Joey Freshwater fake ID. And evidently, Lane thought it was a hilarious name. was like, I'm going to use that.
Starting point is 00:46:47 So that's the story that I heard. I don't know if that's 100% true. But certainly the Joey Freshwater stuff was out and about. And Bobby, I'll just tell you, like, I don't judge people, like, do your thing. But I remember covering Alabama at that time. And like, I'd get a text at like 1.30 in the morning on like a Friday night before a football game, be like, hey, Wayne Kiffin's at this bar right now. And you're like, ah, it feels a little weird.
Starting point is 00:47:08 I don't really remember hearing that about a lot of other coaches. So he was just out there and visible in a way that Nick Saban, assistants just really were not. And, you know, Wayne Kiff, it's a funny guy. I mean, Joey Freshwater is a funny name. There's no, it's a hilarious line. And so that's like, that's part of like the Wayne Kiffin thing too is like there. There's some dark stuff there, but there's also some funny stuff where he's like, he's got this great sense of humor and quick wit where he can just have these things that he does. And so Freshwater is one of those like kind of internet war things that is actually true in a lot of ways. I can't wait to read it. I'm going to have to wait
Starting point is 00:47:45 actually until it comes out though because I have such bad vision. If it's like halfway dark, I can't read paper. I had one of those lights you put on your head for my bed when my wife was asleep and would wake her up because I can't see and I have to read on my iPad now. So the book does come out next week. You can pre-order it now though, I'm assuming, John. Anywhere you buy books, Amazon, Barnes, Snowball Books a Million. And if I can, I'll do two quick shoutouts. There's two great local bookstores. There's a little professor in Birmingham and Square Books in Oxford. Either one of those, you can order a signed book today. So you can order it today. I'll sign it. It'll get to you the week that it comes out. So we'll love to support local
Starting point is 00:48:23 bookstores as well. But yeah, all your big chains to all have it can order it right now. It'll be at your house on the 15th. Are you saying if you go to those bookstores? Because I'm familiar with the, I've written a couple books. And I know the process of like, you need different sales from different places. It's a whole strategy. But there's two really cool bookstores. Will they mail them if you sign them? Can you go and order it from them? And then and they send them in the mail? Yeah, they can. Okay, say them again then for our listeners,
Starting point is 00:48:48 because this is important. So say it again. Yeah. So there's Little Professor, which is in Homewood, Alabama. I think it's Little Professor at Bookshop.com, which is just a great little bookstore in the Birmingham area. I'm actually doing an event there on Tuesday night.
Starting point is 00:49:03 The night the book comes out. And then Square Books, it's like a famous bookstore in Oxford, Mississippi. Google Square Books. Oxford, it'll pop up. I'm doing an event there on Wednesday. And so both of those places, you can order a signed book, I think especially the square books one that gives you an option to personalize it. So if you want, send it to your mom, your dad, your son, brother, put it in there what you want.
Starting point is 00:49:26 I'll personalize it with anything that you want. People have asked me to even put bad words in their personalization. I will do it for you. So you tell me what you want in there. I'll do it. I'll sign it. We'll get it shipped out to you. And you can send it to anybody you want to think it might be a good gift for.
Starting point is 00:49:40 He will draw a wiener. It's not the worst thing someone's asked me to do. I'll tell you that, Bobby. Again, I felt bad that we had to cancel on you the day before, but I knew you'd understand as soon as I told you there was a murder here because it's so bizarre that somebody was killed right here. I do at some point, or if you're ever in Nashville, I would love to spend some time with you and do this in person.
Starting point is 00:50:01 I was looking forward to it. Do we have the same agent? I think we do. I think that's how we may have gotten connected here. Or they work together. Is Jerry your agent? I work with Ethan who's with Charing.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Ah, that's pretty cool. Okay, we have another reason to be friends then. Hey, I do really enjoy your work otherwise and I'm going to be so supportive of this book and I'm actually going to read it. I've never told a single person that when they've called or when they've come in and promoted a book.
Starting point is 00:50:28 I'm always like, that seems cool. But I'm going to read this because I'm so interested in Lane and I hate him so much that I love him. He's like, he's now my friend now, but it's like Brandon Walker. Like I hated that dude watching him on, I hated everything. about what he would say.
Starting point is 00:50:43 Shut up at Mississippi State. Shut up about knowing everything. And I hated him so much. I started to enjoy as a content creator myself how good he was. And now he's one of my friends. So Lane to me is like Brandon Walker, but I don't think I'd be friends with Lane because I have artists that I know that I have these huge personalities and they're the way they are for a reason.
Starting point is 00:51:02 They're successful for a reason. And I can enjoy their art and understand why they're great. But I don't think I could be like personal life friends with them. I don't feel like I could be personal friends with Lane. I feel like our personalities are too different. Your thoughts? Well, one, I think Brandon, it's great, by the way. And I think Brandon also, like, he has embraced that, like, wrestling heel idea where
Starting point is 00:51:21 he knows that there's like, there's a show here, right? The thing that's interesting about Lane is, one, does not have many close friends. I talked to his childhood best friend for this book. He really doesn't have many close friends. And Bobby, I think the other thing that's really interesting about Wayne is that, and I kind of refer to him as the Wizard of Oz in this book where I think, because of his tweets and his little quips and things like that, we think he's this huge personality. And when you're actually in person with him, he's awkward, he's introverted, he can be quiet.
Starting point is 00:51:52 Like he's going to be, you know, not necessarily looking you in the eye when you talk, which, again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But I just think that fans have this perception that this guy's like exploding off the screen when you meet him. And it's really not like that. And it was almost kind of funny that like talking to people that have worked with him at Tennessee and Ole Miss and things like that. where they're like, we can't bring this guy to like donor dinners.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Like if he was the Arkansas coach, we want to get him in front of Bobby. Like maybe he can get Bobby some money. They couldn't do it. Like it'll end horribly if we try to do that. Like it will actually lose money if we try to get him in front of our top donors because it goes. So it's like we'll put him in like a Q&A. We'll let him do a little spiel. But like we don't want him in these like these moments because he just doesn't really
Starting point is 00:52:33 know how to communicate. Like if it's not talking about football, he's not very good at being able to just like have small talk with you. So I always thought that was something that's just so. interesting about Lane. And another reason, like, why I wanted to write a book about him. It's just like, I think people think because he's so great on social media, he's like this hilarious guy in person. And like, he's actually very different. And it's very interesting just how his personality is, which, you know, I delve into the book a lot. Oh, no. You guys want to say it?
Starting point is 00:52:58 That's you. That's me. Maybe you all will be good friends. Everything you just said is me. And people, when they meet me in person, I'm like, oh, this guy either he's a dick or he's weird. It's like, you know, I just, I kind of am on the spectrum too a little bit where it's like once my microphone's not in front of my face, everything's awkward. Maybe Lane's my best friend. Oh, no. Okay, everybody, I hope you go and you order the book, you get the book. John, again, thank you so much. I'm really looking forward to meeting in person. I love just your writing in general. So thanks a lot. And I hope you sell so many that you write the next book about the success of Ryan Silverfield at Arkansas because he just comes out
Starting point is 00:53:38 of nowhere and wins national championships. We'd love nothing more. I'd have to do that. Appreciate having me on. Bobby was a blast. And look forward to meet you in person here sometime soon. All right, John. Thanks, man. See you later.

Starting point is 00:57:53 Because no one's going to. Oh, we might. You have to get both teams. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you might. But I'm saying it's very much a probably not. So if anybody nails both teams, do we all agree to give them $100? Love it.
Starting point is 00:58:06 I'm in, you're in, you're in. Mike, are you in? I'm in. Okay, so it's $300 to the winner. You just got to nail both teams That's legit Odds of that are tough You got to do both

Starting point is 00:58:33 I got one loaded I got the best one loaded So bad I got the one This year is my year Amen. You think so? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:42 No, dady, no doubt. So we're going Ohio State plus one and a half points at Texas. Wow. There's no heart in that, right? Just all brains? A little bit heart. Most of brains. All right.
Starting point is 00:59:00 Most of brains. A little bit of heart. Next up, Oklahoma minus five and a half at Michigan. We saw who Michigan was. Michigan might not get a yard. Right. Oklahoma's defense is so good. And then the third is, and you can throw this in, if you don't mind.
Starting point is 00:59:14 Throw it and see what the odds are here, Kevin. And my third is Alabama at Kentucky. And there's a pretty big spread here, but I'm checking the Alabama money line. Because I think Kentucky has a decent shot to cover. I don't think Alabama is what Alabama is. And I think Kentucky is little more than what Kentucky is. So it's going to be Ohio State plus one and a half.
Starting point is 00:59:36 Oklahoma minus five and a half. Alabama Money Line. So when you get that, hit that, just let me know. And new Draft King's customer, sign up with the code Bobby Sports. Spend $5 to get $200 in rewards within 21 days, includes all markets.

Starting point is 01:00:48 Yes. Okay, Oklahoma minus five and a half. Sorry, the verification took a little bit. I love getting verified. Makes me feel alive. You don't just do your face? I try that and then it still sends a text. Yeah, I get the text too. I do face and then it can send the text. Yeah, yeah, which can get annoying, but it's like I get it. It's okay. That is plus 354.
Starting point is 01:01:08 Mike, that's good enough, right? Yep. Because for us to be featured up there. Is it plus 300? Yes. Or more? Mm-hmm. I like it.
Starting point is 01:01:15 So that's going to be mine. And I like that you threw in a little money line in there. That to me, that's like my style of doing things. Like, ah, you know what? Yeah, maybe not paid that much, but let's throw that money line in there. It'll boost it up a little bit of a little, you know, a few dollars. Hey, Eddie, that's true. That's my little technique.
Starting point is 01:01:32 Hey, Eddie, that's true. Okay. You guys want to go Super Bowls? Yeah, I'm ready. I'm in. Mine's written down. All right, Kevin, Super Bowl. Super Bowl is going to be the new...
Starting point is 01:01:43 Just kidding. I want to. But the Broncos and Rams. The Broncos defense is so good. Yeah. And they have Jalen Wattle now. Yeah. And if Bo Nex is healthy,
Starting point is 01:01:54 which he's had... It was just crazy when he got hurt, right? Because the game was over and he hobbles off when the game was over. Yeah, nobody even knew till, like, after the celebration. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, okay, you got...
Starting point is 01:02:04 Bronco. and Rams. Boom. Where is it this year? Los Angeles. Love it. So in Los Angeles... And Miley Cyrus is doing halftime.
Starting point is 01:02:13 That's confirmed? I believe so. Really? Mike? I didn't see that. Oh. Yeah, dude, I didn't see that. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:02:19 Sometimes I just say stuff. But that'd be cool. Maybe I got scintled. Okay. So in L.A. With Miley Cyrus doing the halftime show. Yeah, she is confirmed. Oh, good.
Starting point is 01:02:30 Not officially confirmed. It's rumored. Oh, so it's not confirmed. Dang, dude, the rumor got you. She's rumored to be. rumored to be confirmed I have the Cowboys versus the bills
Starting point is 01:02:40 a repeat from the 90s That's a good one That's a good one I think that'd be awesome Is that your heart? No no no No I just look at the numbers And you know everything on paper
Starting point is 01:02:51 I think the Cowboys are gonna You know They're gonna take the NFC A repeat from 30 plus years ago Okay And of course I'm gonna have them winning So when Mike was in the womb Okay Mike
Starting point is 01:03:04 I have the Rams and the Bills. Okay, so you got two Rams. You and him both have the Rams. Yep. And then you and Eddie both have the Bills. Both have the Bills. Interesting. Okay.
Starting point is 01:03:16 I have the Ravens and the Rams. All right. Big Rams believers in here except for just one group. There's only one team that needs to stop the Rams. It's the Cowboys. Because yes, if you look at it now. It's Seattle, dude. There is Seattle.
Starting point is 01:03:33 But if you look at it now, the Rams just seem like no-brainer. Like 100%. I just don't think there's a no-brainer ever. Right. That's why I think the Cowboys are going to be the ones that stop them. So, in preparation for the next NFL season, several
Starting point is 01:03:47 executives around the league were asked their thoughts and predictions on which players and coaches would end up winning the postseason awards. So they tallied all the votes. And so again, they did executives. Just executives. So yeah. Okay. Are you ready? Yep.
Starting point is 01:04:03 Most valuable player, according to the executives, who do you think they picked? Or do you guys want to pick who you think it'll be? Yeah, I mean, I was going to go where Kevin was going. Okay, you do who you think it'll be. And I'll step out because I already see who it is. Or I can play. This isn't affect me. I think he's going to be Dak Prescott.
Starting point is 01:04:21 Oh, interesting. I'll go with Josh Allen. I'll go Lamar Jackson. Mike? Give me Prescott. The league executives have selected Joe Burrow. Man. And if he's healthy, yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:34 Yes, five years in a row. If he's healthy. I know. We say that every year. Offensive player of the year. It won't be a quarterback. Okay. Hmm.
Starting point is 01:04:45 Give me Jamir Gibbs. Yeah, that's what I'm going with. Jemir. I don't want Bijan. Yeah. If he was on a better team. Oh, it's a great point. That's a great point.
Starting point is 01:04:56 That's a great point. Then I would have gone Justin Jefferson. Love that. Mike. Give me Nakua. Nice. Yeah. That's good.
Starting point is 01:05:02 It's devoted to Jemir Gibbs. Oh, okay. So me and the execs. You and Kevin in the execs. Defensive player of the year. I mean. Aaron Donald. Stop.
Starting point is 01:05:18 It's got to be Miles Garrett. I would have thought Miles Garrett too. He's got to be. He has an actual reason to play hard. Yeah. He played hard without a reason. Yeah. What's his reason now?
Starting point is 01:05:27 He's playing out a team that's actually playing for something. And you have to think, too, the Browns were losing every game when he was playing. So they... It's tough. So the teams that they were playing offense against them were just running the ball the whole time because they're just trying to run the clock out. So it's not like he had a lot of opportunities in the fourth quarter because they were losing the whole time. I would have guessed Miles Garrett.
Starting point is 01:05:46 Mike? Give me Will Anderson Jr. That is who they pick. Will Anderson Jr. for the Texans. Offensive rookie of the year. Jeremiah Love. Good guess. That's the only one you get to go?
Starting point is 01:06:00 No. I mean, yeah, I guess. No, there's a Tate. from the Titans? Yeah, the Titans. I wasn't saying that like insulting. I can only think of one defensive player that's a rookie that I think. Yeah, me too.
Starting point is 01:06:12 Yeah, I'm trying to think. And the only reason I have my guess and I happen to be right with who they guess is because of fantasy. It's the only reason. Okay. So to me it wasn't that I'm so smart and know all the personnel. I just been studying fantasy and this is the person that I made a point to draft because Charbonnates hurt. Ah. Yeah, Juddrian Price.
Starting point is 01:06:31 Yeah. So I would have guessed him, but only did he just a guy and he'd have guessed him, but only. because of fantasy. I probably would have guessed Carnel Tate. Titans. Yeah. I go Caleb Downs just because of Cowboys. Well, that's Defense. That's defense. Oh. I don't know. We yell at him. You stupid idiot.
Starting point is 01:06:46 Because that's why I had Locked and Loaded for defense. Defensive rookie of the year. Caleb Downs. Yeah, that's who I would guess. That's who they guessed. That's who they guessed. He's going to be awesome, dude. Comeback player of the year. Joe Burrow. Joe Flacco. Every year it's Joe Burrow. Yeah. Or Joe Flacco. No,
Starting point is 01:07:02 I think different because this one This one's interesting because it wasn't like this guy had a bad season. He got hurt. I got it. Yeah. Scataboo! No. He was never there to come back, John.
Starting point is 01:07:13 Oh, dude. I'm trying to think who got hurt. Somebody got hurt. Big deal. We wondered if he's going to be able to play. Is it Bo Nix? No, but, okay, we're dancing. Okay.
Starting point is 01:07:24 Oh, Patrick Mahomes. Yes. Comeback player. Yep. Yeah, I think Daniel Jones will be interesting, too. Yeah. Oh, he did get injured at the end of the year, huh? Towards Achilles
Starting point is 01:07:34 That's right And they're saying he's going to start week one Yeah Crazy Crazy You're crazy Okay Breakout player
Starting point is 01:07:40 You're not gonna get this Breakout It could be Fernando Mendoza Brock Bowers Matthew Golden from the Packers Coach of the Year Diana
Starting point is 01:07:54 I mean What What on earth You're crazy Dude Brable Yeah I'm gonna guess I would have guessed
Starting point is 01:08:06 I'm trying to think of a young Who's Okay I would have guessed Kubiak Go leaving from Seattle To the Raiders And going to the Raiders If they are
Starting point is 01:08:16 Mid to better My guess would have probably been Kubiak I'll go Schottenheimer Yeah I'm gonna go Schottenheimer Because he's gonna take him The Super Bowl The Cowboys? Yeah
Starting point is 01:08:24 They pick Brian Schottenheimer Boom See we're on the same page guys I mean I could have cheated And picked them all No I know Thank you for not doing that Exactly.
Starting point is 01:08:34 Do you want to know in our league what teams we drafted? Yes. Are you going to tell me? Yeah, we haven't told you at all. Because... I don't even remember. Yeah, I have them up. Don't worry.
Starting point is 01:08:43 You got them. So for those who are listening, we play in a Skins League, and we lost $5 grand last year. Right? About $5,000? I guess. Mine was like two something. As a group, yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:55 You had 25% of the team? Yeah, yeah. So the year before, I had my own team, and I won $4,800. or so, maybe 5,800, whatever it was. And what you do is you draft teams
Starting point is 01:09:09 and if they win, you win. And if they lose, you don't win, but when everybody else wins, you have to pay them. And so it can get out of control fast, but it can also, you can get way up fast. It's almost like craps. Sure.
Starting point is 01:09:21 Like, it can all go quick and craps. Yeah. So what you do is there's six of us on the Zoom, six teams, and you snake draft, one through six, back and forth, 36 picks. And you're wondering, well, there aren't that many teams.
Starting point is 01:09:34 Well, you can draft teams to win or draft teams to lose. And if they lose, and you have them to lose, you get money every time they lose. In the first round, we had two losers taken, which has never happened. Wow, two. And the reason is not because they don't lose a lot. It's because once it gets to the playoffs, they have no chance to make extra money. But who do you think the two teams to lose were? First, come to mind is Cardinals.
Starting point is 01:09:59 And the second of the dolphins. That's exactly it. They were both drafted in the first round. Yeah. I had the third overall pick. I think I bid $100 to get the third overall pick. And so... I was confused by that.
Starting point is 01:10:12 And I think every year I'm confused by it. So when you pay or bid to get the pick or whatever, you have to pay that money? So that just goes into what? The final number that we pay. Even last year, I think I bid $100 and we ended up paying the $100 on it. And you just are bidding because if there's a team you want. Like Matt Stell went first.
Starting point is 01:10:30 I have the order And he bid the highest? Yeah, he bid 200 bucks for that first pick Yeah, so he saw him on a billboard I did too Matt Stell? Yeah, his new song He's got a new single out
Starting point is 01:10:40 Yeah, it's good Yeah, it's good Let me see here What would that thread be called? Our thread? No, I have it skins All right No, our thread's called NFL Make Money
Starting point is 01:10:52 Yeah, make money NFL. Nice. Hope we're right Or we'll have to change that name Okay, so the first pick overall was the Rams winner. Fair.
Starting point is 01:11:04 The second pick overall was the Cardinals loser. Dang. I know as quick as I've ever seen a loser pick. And I think that's going to be a great pick and it's going to make them a lot of money. But I've just been burned doing that because at the end of the year, sometimes they squeak out a couple.
Starting point is 01:11:18 Sure. And then also there's five weeks, four weeks of the playoffs that you can't make any money at all. Yeah, Patriots saved us last year in the playoffs. Patriot saved us all year. The whole year. That too.
Starting point is 01:11:27 Okay. I had a third pick. And Kevin, who do you think I picked? Because we all kind of had a pick. I had a pick that I picked. Eddie had a pick he picked. Sines had a pick that he picked. And then we just kind of as a team, did they have the three because we were all on? Trying to think who's...
Starting point is 01:11:44 And what I factored in was a team that I felt like was good and would win, but also strength the schedule. Yeah. So I was thinking, like, the first team that popped into the Seahawks, but I think they're going to have a hard schedule and they're playing the Rams twice a year. So I wouldn't go Seahawks. a good team's strength of schedule that's too early but context clue was what we talked about earlier bucks
Starting point is 01:12:06 context clue what we talked about earlier Super Bowl oh yeah did you pick the Cowboys no I didn't it was his pick it's my pick and he wanted to
Starting point is 01:12:17 I already forgot who you I picked Baltimore oh duh the Ravens I picked the Ravens what do you think I think it's solid. And that's what I want.
Starting point is 01:12:28 I wanted a solid first-round pick. They have a, I feel like their strength of schedule is on the lower end of strong and I think they're going to be really good
Starting point is 01:12:37 this year. Because they didn't even make the playoffs last year. So they'll play like the third team in each division. Yeah, they'll be good. And like mentors a coach. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:43 And so I just hear people raving about him. So we went to Raven's first overall pick. Okay. After that, there was a Dolphins loser. Then somebody picked the lions.
Starting point is 01:12:56 Oh, wow. Then someone picked the bills. Now, the bills are going to have a tough schedule. The reason I didn't pick the bills is because I do think they could probably win the Super Bowl. Yeah. But if you play a hard schedule and you get to the playoffs as a wild card, then you win the Super Bowl, you still don't really make as much money as you would have if you won 13 or 14 games. Yeah, I agree.
Starting point is 01:13:13 Okay, so that was the first six. Then we're on to the second round. Then they picked the Seahawks. Okay. The Bengals. That wasn't you guys? It wasn't us. No, no.
Starting point is 01:13:24 No, no. No, not doing that again. It's snake. It's snake. After the Bengals was the Eagles. Okay. And then now it's back to us. Oh, you guys want Cowboys. Well, I gave Eddie the option of the pick.
Starting point is 01:13:33 Which I didn't know he was going to give me the option. How nervous were you? Not nervous at all. You didn't feel any pressure after last year? No, no, because it was all Bobby's decision. And then he starts like fumbling and... I'm not fumbling. I had a full grid. On the Zoom.
Starting point is 01:13:47 No, there's no fumbling. What do you mean fumbling? He had a full grid. He was kind of like, rubbing his head. I was doing a little show. And then he goes, Eddie, should we? Nice. And I go, let's go, let's be.
Starting point is 01:13:56 Let's go Cowboys. Nice. So we got to Cowboys. Nice. That's a good one, man. That's a good one. Cowboys are in the second round. I do believe.
Starting point is 01:14:05 I do believe. I like that one. Then the Pats. Okay. Then the Jets loser. Okay. Now we're the third round. Texans winner, Broncos winner.
Starting point is 01:14:18 Now it's back to us. And I'll say this. I picked a loser in this third round. So who do you think? Because there's been a couple losers so far. Yeah, you got the Cardinals, Dolphins. Yeah, there's only got two losers. There's been the...
Starting point is 01:14:28 No, there's been three. Three. Yeah, there's been the Jets, the Dolphins, and the Cardinals. Who do you think I picked as a loser next? Has to be the Browns. It is the Browns. Okay.
Starting point is 01:14:38 Boom. Nice. Glad you said that. I know, right? After that, Titans Loser, 49ers, winners. Raiders losers. And after this third round, it gets to be hard because everybody's, like,
Starting point is 01:14:49 predicted around 500. Yeah. Then it's Chargers. The Chief's winners didn't go until the fourth round. That's nuts. I would have taken them if they'd have been available in the fourth round, but I wasn't going to take them before the Browns losers.
Starting point is 01:15:04 Don't blame me. Okay, here we go. Chiefs winners. Packers, winners. And then it's to me. And this is a, we let Mike Seines pick, and I don't think it was a bad pick.
Starting point is 01:15:15 But it's a winner. We picked a winner here. And this one is, we think they're going to be pretty good, but also the division they play in. Is it the Vikings? It's not the, I think it's a tough division.
Starting point is 01:15:27 It is a tough division. Def Division. Yeah. I picked them because I think they can win their division. Oh, oh, the bucks. Same reason,
Starting point is 01:15:34 but no, different division. Dang. Different conference. Different conference. AFC. So you have the Texans of Colts? Jags. Jags.
Starting point is 01:15:41 Okay. Feel pretty solid. That's a good one. Yeah. Because they could either be, yeah, win 12 games and it's like, okay, they got a good team,
Starting point is 01:15:51 but they're also the Jags. And they could win nine and get in the playoffs and maybe surprise. True. That is true. And it's hard. These backgrounds are tough.
Starting point is 01:15:57 Are they going to live overseas for like another month? I don't know, dude. Like how, I think they're playing. They always do. All their games are. Then it was Bears winners, Vikings winners, Panthers losers, Falcons losers. I did take a loser in this,
Starting point is 01:16:12 this is the next to the last round. Ooh. I have a loser here. This pick kind of struck me weird because I wouldn't have thought it, but then the more I sit on it, I'm like, oh, this is a good pick. It's such a hard round, though,
Starting point is 01:16:25 six and five and six, because you're out of all the good teams. and all the bad teams. You're just at all mids, and so you've got to kind of pick which direction you want the mids to go. I can't remember if they already got picked it up, but the Raiders losers?
Starting point is 01:16:35 Raiders losers got picked. Okay. Before that, right? That's true. Okay. Ooh. This one could bite us in the butt. The last two always came bite you in the butt.
Starting point is 01:16:49 Like you said, Kevin, it's really close, which way they can go. We're screaming 500 here. But the buck's already got picked. Falcons already got picked. AFC. It is AFC.
Starting point is 01:17:02 Okay. C South, Texan Titans. Stay there. Okay. Oh, it is a Colt. Colts L losers. Yeah, okay, okay. Would you have picked a Colts winner or a Colts loser?
Starting point is 01:17:10 Oh, gosh. Probably a loser. I know. Probably, though, right? Yeah. But I just don't trust Daniel Jones coming up that injury and they lost Pitman as a receiver. Yeah. And they play, I mean, the Jags and Texans are going to be good.
Starting point is 01:17:31 So yeah, probably a loser, yeah. Then Giants losers was taken. Saints Winners was taken. Buck's winners was taken. And it was snake. I was going to take the Bucks. Before I was going to take the Colts loser. But since it's snake, the other way,
Starting point is 01:17:42 bucks got picked before. They freaking stress us out last year. It did. Then Commanders Loser, Colts Winners. So Colts Winters got taken in the last round because everybody was torn. And so we have one other loser team. Wow.
Starting point is 01:17:56 And the last two picks were somebody picking this team to win and us picking them to lose. Oh, my. We're scrounging. Yeah, I was going to say. I didn't even realize... I don't remember this pick.
Starting point is 01:18:07 Trying to think of it. Jets, no. Hurt quarterback. Not hurt anymore, but... He was hurt. Now he's just old. Ah. Now he's just old, Kevin.
Starting point is 01:18:26 I think Rico Dahl's plan is a running back now. Oh, the Steelers. Steelers. Wow. Steelers loser. That's, I mean... could be great because the Ravens play them twice too. He knows, yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:38 So we have Ravens winner, Cowboy Winner, Jags winner. Ravens, Cowboys, Jacks. Okay. And then we have Browns, losers, which I feel good about that one. Yes. And then the two that are always tough in the last two rounds, the Colts and the Steelers losers. Just go 500, guys. That's all we need.
Starting point is 01:18:53 And we'll have our other four win some games. That's a good one. Yeah, we felt pretty good about it. Did you feel weird not having your strategy of doing winner-loser team? I couldn't because when I draft it came back on the back way and they drafted Steelers winners and so I had to
Starting point is 01:19:12 No no after I drafted Colts' losers You wanted to do winners on that They drafted Colts winners like four picks after Yeah Because I would have done that That would have been the one Oh yeah like we did last year Yeah
Starting point is 01:19:22 So that's the team that make money team That you're not in I'll be rude for you guys You're in the team though Do you want in? No but I'm going to be rooting for you guys. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:19:33 Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Our team, we want the Ravens, Cowboys, and Jags to win. Let's go, baby. We want the Browns,
Starting point is 01:19:38 Colts and Steelers to lose. It's a big Cowboys. Yeah, yeah, big Cowboys. Podcasts here. Big Cowboys guys here. Yeah, there's go. Get Bell,
Starting point is 01:19:50 pure fiber internet with Crave Netflix and Disney Plus from $94 a month. Price guaranteed for two years on internet with a two-year term and auto pay credit. Visit bell.ca for details and to check availability.
Starting point is 01:20:01 Bell, connection is everything. When I was 14 years old, I was kidnapped and held captive for nine months. I survived, and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them. I'm Elizabeth Smart, and these are the Survivor Files. I just remember this low, taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything. Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable.
Starting point is 01:20:31 I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going. to hurt me. I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed and I just started screaming. They are abducted, stalked, controlled and nearly silenced. But these aren't stories about what's taken from them. There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive. Listen to the Survivor Files with Elizabeth Smart on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the new podcast, Solita, we share the messy reality of traveling alone as a woman. I can wait four hours for the next bus or this random dude is offering me a ride on his motorcycle. I chose option B. I'm Julie Pinero,
Starting point is 01:21:17 and I travel by myself because it's a rare space where I can say yes without asking anyone else first. I'm on a mission to reclaim the word solita, trading the pity for possibility. Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people and they were like, you smiled at us, Not a lot of people smile around here. It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is and not the lies you're sold about it. It can be a time where you push your limits, change your mind, or wake up to a new version of yourself.
Starting point is 01:21:51 So whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too nervous to book your first trip, I hope you listen to Solita on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, this is Kylie Breakman. Angel Geratana Jeremy Colhane Patrick McDonald
Starting point is 01:22:07 And we're the hosts of the Artists on Artists on Artists on Artists Podcast The Improvised Character Comedy Podcast Where each week a new panel of artists discuss their craft Join us for A Panel of Wellness Influencers
Starting point is 01:22:20 What I try to do is Fo Journal I don't know Have you guys heard of faux journaling? Yeah, it's reading It's called reading So you're so we don't like to use that word anymore Okay
Starting point is 01:22:29 A panel of New Yorker cartoonists Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class? No! I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14. That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30.
Starting point is 01:22:50 No way. You have to come to the last bookstore though. Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks. on Halloween.
Starting point is 01:23:06 It's right up next to the microphone. I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit each other. You never seen Italy so quiet as when the Pope gets up to wink on Halloween. Listen to artists on artists on artists on artists on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Did somebody touch your kids this weekend? What the? Yeah, dude.
Starting point is 01:23:27 What happened? So we're out at breakfast, me, my wife, my two kids, and somebody, or our waitress, She comes up and she's like, oh, you know, kids. Oh, your kids are cute. Oh, thank you. And then she just rubs my little boy's hair, dude. Like, rubs his head, like her fingers through his head. And I'm like, interesting.
Starting point is 01:23:47 Okay. And she was super nice. I was like, whatever, it is what it is. And then we went to a department store after that. And we're looking at buying something and this guy that's hanging out and helping us. And he's like, looks at my little boy, he's sitting in the cart. And he's like, oh, you're so cute. And he tickled him, dude, and his ribs.
Starting point is 01:24:04 And I'm like, okay, two times in one day, like, is this normal? That one feels more weird than the first one. Yeah, the first one I felt like it's okay. Only because it's a woman. Yes. And the hair. The hair's fine, like a little brush of the hair. Okay, but the guy tickling.
Starting point is 01:24:18 I don't like that. I don't like that either. Two reasons. One guy. Yep. Two, don't touch the body. Right? Don't touch him at all.
Starting point is 01:24:25 But second, don't touch his rib. Now, this is a stranger rule, right? Like, if you don't know the parents or the babies. Yeah, if I know you, like, oh, yeah. Hey, hey, this is my little boy. I feel like I do that, you know, like with, you know, kids that I know, like, you know, and their parents. I'm just like, ah, a little, little rib on the shoulder. Even if you get a little, like, close, you're like, hey, or peek boo, whatever.
Starting point is 01:24:46 But like, to, like, touch, you know, to tickle them, I'm like, okay. That's bizarre. That's weird. What did you, what did you say? Did you punch him? I didn't say anything. I stuffed him in the fridge. He thanked him for touching your kid?
Starting point is 01:24:58 No, I didn't do anything. I was like, okay, the fact that it was a second time in one day, I was like, okay, we just Let's go home. Is this just a segment of you bragging how cute your kids are, though? No. We don't realize it's Kevin flexing that everybody wants to touch those kids because they're so cute. No, I wouldn't do that. I mean, it's, you know, I don't need to do that.
Starting point is 01:25:16 Are your kids really cute? I mean, yeah, they're my kids. Of course they're really cute. Doesn't everybody think they're kids are so cute? Yeah. Like my second son, I thought he was the cutest thing in the whole wide world. But I look at pictures now and I'm like, oh, gosh, he was so ugly. Like, he was so ugly, dude.
Starting point is 01:25:33 And it's nuts because I remember thinking he was the cutest little baby ever. And I know, and I remember people would even laugh. I mean, like, he's so cute. Now I know what that laugh meant. He was not cute at all. He was pretty ugly. Have you told him that? Nah, never.
Starting point is 01:25:49 Will you tell you, you want to him? Nah. He didn't watch this, though. Uh-uh. Nah, no, no, no. I don't think so. Uh, yeah, I feel like, except for, but you even thought then he was cute. That's a point.
Starting point is 01:26:00 Like, everybody thinks their kids are so cute. Like, until what point? Because my kids are 15, 16 months now, and I'm like, they're still just adorable. I think you will always think that they're really cute. What if in like five years, though, you look at your second son and be like, dang, he was ugly when I was talking about him on the show that time. It's just constantly. He's always ugly.
Starting point is 01:26:19 He's 30 years old. He just have no idea. You're like, no, but 30, you're like, he's a good looking guy, right? You see him at 25. Oh, he's ugly. Hey, you guys. All right, before we wrap this show, here are my five super. super hot takes. I actually wrote this when I was on the Rich Eisen Show and I never got to it.
Starting point is 01:26:37 Cool. This is Rich Eisen Material. Well, so I had it and I never used it. Okay. Because I went into that. I'm just loaded because it's all talk for three hours. So you're in and I don't want to be somebody who's just like scrounging for stuff. So I had so many segments that I had planned that I never got to do. But this was going to be my five super hot takes on Rich Eisen Show. And also I kind of wanted to rattle the cage a little bit. I wanted to talk about Caitlin Clark because I like being a Caitlin Clark supporter, defender. So here we go. Number five,
Starting point is 01:27:11 Caitlin Clark is already more important to her league than any athlete is to theirs right now. Not the best, but the most important. There's a big difference there. And then I had, because she had just scored 37 points, right, but when I wrote that, her 37 point performance is another reminder of the attention surrounding her. So, again, I don't think she's the best of everyone and their league, but she is the most important athlete in their respective league right now in American sports.
Starting point is 01:27:39 Hot take? I don't think it's that hot. I'm trying to think of a counter, like, of who else it could be, but when it comes to their sport, I mean, LeBron is probably the only, but even he's faded out the last couple years. He's holding out. Yeah. And there's not really a young person in the NBA.
Starting point is 01:27:55 You can point to NFL. I feel like the NFL is going to stay on top, no matter who. was the face. But there's not one dominant NFL person that makes news regardless of what they do. No. I mean Travis Kelsey's probably the biggest just because of Taylor Swift. That's a good point. You know, I was going to go
Starting point is 01:28:11 Josh Allen, but because of just a play. But yeah, Travis Kelsey's holding out. He's famous, but he's not important to the league. He's just someone who gets a lot of clicks. So anyway, that was my number five. And then they would go, number four. And they all weren't sports. That's where I was going to throw him with
Starting point is 01:28:29 the curb ball. Okay. Yeah. Number four was people who genuinely believe in astrology or card reading should never be taken seriously in anything else they do either. I like that one. Because people that really are like, oh, oh, you're a cancer? I'm a leprechaun and we need to go together or whatever. They're a Capricorn. Yeah. So people who really live their life. Yeah, who believe, believe it. Because there's no scientific evidence that any of that is true. Right. Like nothing with horoscopes, none, none, zero. Yeah. It's Fantasyland.
Starting point is 01:29:01 Yes. Okay, number three. Aaron Rogers going back to Pittsburgh was more about Pittsburgh being addicted to being pretty good than chasing a Super Bowl. Because they're not going to win a Super Bowl with Aaron Rogers. Heck no. And they could have cut bait, and I think they have four quarterbacks in that quarterback room right now. Yes. They could have gone and just lost and done a Miami, done a Cleveland, done Arizona, done that.
Starting point is 01:29:25 But they wanted Rogers for another year, and I think they just are just kind of obsessed with being a little bit above five. hundred or 500. Yeah, now is the time when they cut bait with their head coach, Tomlin, for after what, 15, 20 years, whatever it was, and you still can't cut the bait? So yeah, I think Pittsburgh, that organization is addicted to being pretty good, which would be frustrating as a fan. Number two, elected officials and judges should have to retire by age 75. Yes. Yes. That's it. There's no reason. Not really a hot take. No. Yeah, man, because we've seen, we've seen. We worry if people are 80 driving a car.
Starting point is 01:30:05 Yes. Just straight up. And our last two presidents have been 100. Yeah. The pendulum's got a swing, but the problem is it's going to be baby president. It's going to be somebody's super young next. And it could be. What's the youngest age? Ever? I don't know. I probably put Kennedy as youngest elected. I think maybe there was a president younger than him that was put in, Mike in fact, check me on this, but I think Kennedy was was the youngest ever elected.
Starting point is 01:30:32 Maybe Bill Clinton was second, but I think there may have been one that was put in office that was younger that wasn't elected. I think Obama was younger than Bill Clinton, right? Possibly. Mike, what do you see? Kennedy was the youngest at 43 years old
Starting point is 01:30:43 and Teddy Roosevelt at 42. Teddy was 42? But he went in. Assassination, yeah. After assassination. Oh, got it. Got it. He was four soon.
Starting point is 01:30:50 But yeah, youngest elected was JFK. Hey, pretty good. Pretty good, dude. How old do you have to be? 35? I don't. After the pendulum swings? 12.
Starting point is 01:30:59 Okay. Perfect. Perfect. We're going to have teenage president. Now you can't drive your car because you're not old enough. And here was my number one. Rings are the most
Starting point is 01:31:09 overrated argument in sports. Championships matter, but we've gotten lazy and we've turned every individual debate into jewelry and rings. Robert Orie has seven rings. Charles Barkley has zero rings. Nobody with functioning eyes
Starting point is 01:31:21 or a brain thinks Robert Ori was better. Winning is evidence, but it's not the entire case. And in reality, none of those were hot takes. I just say that at the beginning, because they all make a lot of sense. You agree with all of them. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:33 So that was it. Yeah. It's just, I feel like everyone, it's their go-to argument. But even like with the Brady, I'm like, oh, he has most rings. But he also was the greatest. No, it's ring-based. Brady's is ring-based fully. Because if you're taking a quarterback, you take all the rings away, I'm not taking Brady first.
Starting point is 01:31:48 Oh. Who are you taking? Peyton Manning. Oh, stop. One season, one Super Bowl run. It's not even that. He was his own offensive coordinator. Like, he actually ran the offense.
Starting point is 01:31:59 But I'm not saying he's better because you have to go Because it's close and then you go to championships Yeah, and then it's not close. So if you were to say there was never a Super Bowl played And we're just looking at these guys playing regular seasons I'm taking Braden, I've taken Peyton Manning over anybody. Okay. And then probably Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 01:32:19 Okay. You just like the guys that just talk and yell at the line of scrimage. No. And does weird stuff. Yeah. It's hard to take any of those 80s quarter of, like Joe Montana, because they just didn't have to throw the ball a lot. Oh, dude, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice connection was...
Starting point is 01:32:34 I think, though, if I were taking, I would take Steve Young over Joe Montana. I think he was a better quarterback. Now we're on hot takes. Well, because Steve Young could run. Sure. And playing in today's league, Steve Young would fit much better than Montana. He was also a champion, too. Dan Marino?
Starting point is 01:32:52 Yeah, Marino's good. Later on, he couldn't move his legs, but Peyton couldn't move his head and his neck. Yeah, Roger's can't move anything. All right, that's it. Thank you guys. Hope you guys have a good weekend. Eddie's 2017 parlay. We root for it every week.
Starting point is 01:33:06 Come on, baby. $1 to win $10 million. I think this week I'm going to hit it. $1 to fix the economy. That's what Eddie says. All right, that'll do it. Blow the whistle. All right, see you guys.
