Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. It's Financial Literacy Month, and the podcast, Eating While Broke, is bringing real conversations about money, growth, and building your future. This month, hear from top streamer, Zoe Spencer and venture capitalist
Starting point is 00:00:17 Lakeisha Landrum-Pierre, as they share their journeys from starting out to leveling up. There's an economic component to communities thriving. If there's not enough money and entrepreneurship happening in communities, they fail. Starting point is 00:00:37 Hey, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist and host of the podcast, a slight change of plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans. I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change. We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes. You can have opinions. You can have like a strong stance. And then there's your body having its own program. Listen to a slight change of plans on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is Amy Roboc alongside T.J. Holmes from the Amy and T.J. podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:19 And there is so much news, information, commentary coming at you all day and from all over the place. What's fact? What's fake? And sometimes what? the F. So let's cut the crap, okay? Follow the Amy and T.J. podcast, a one-stop news and pop culture shop to get you caught up and on with your day. And listen to Amy and T.J. on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. On a recent episode of the podcast, Money and Wealth with John Hope Bryant, I sit down with Tiffany the budgetista Aliche to talk about what it really takes to take control of your money. What would that look like in our families if everyone was able to pass on wealth to the people when they're no longer here.
Starting point is 00:02:02 We break down budgeting, financial discipline, and how to build real wealth, starting with the mindset shifts. Too many of us were never, ever taught. If you've ever felt you didn't get the memo on money, this conversation is for you to hear more. Listen to Money and Wealth with John Hope Bryant from the Black Effect Network on the I'd Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Anna Navarro, and on my new podcast, Bleep with Anna Navarro.
Starting point is 00:02:31 I'm talking to the people closest to the biggest issues happening in your community and around the world. Because I know deep down inside right now, we are all cursing and asking what the bleep is going on. Every week I'm breaking down the biggest issues happening in our communities and around the world. I'm talking to people like Julie K. Brown, who broke the explosive story on Jeffrey Epstein in 2018. The Justice Department threw. We counted four presidential administrations, failed these victims. Listen to Bleep with Anna Navarro on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:03:08 The Best Bits of the Week with Morgan. Part one. Behind the scenes with a member of the show. Welcome to the weekend, everybody. What is up? Morgan's here and I'm joined by Abby. Abby, how are you? I'm good.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Word up. You're in the new studio where we're recording best bits. It's one of our new studios. I have to kind of face forward. I know. This is weird. Because the microphones having a mind of its own. It is.
Starting point is 00:03:37 But we're doing it. And I'm controlling the board. I know. Look at you. Watch out, Ray. Someone's coming for the board. Oh, gosh. No, don't give me that one.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Too many buttons. All right. Well, Abby, we have a lot of things that happen on the show this week. So you are going to see a therapist. for easy trivia and other things. Uh-huh. Yes. I gave an update on Halloween Man and I asked a favor from Bobby about something that we'll
Starting point is 00:04:04 kind of talk a little bit today. Amy admitted she said something on the phone and it was a very mom-of-the-year moment in sarcasm. Bobby came through for a listener who made a bet with his son over these Taylor Swift tickets and the show played games all day post-election day, which was super fun and we'll include some of those. So if you want to catch up on the show, go check out part two. But for now, we're just chatting about life. Abby, how are things going? How are you? What's the latest? What's the latest? I feel like I'm just working a lot. Like always, I feel like I don't really have an update. I'm just working. But I got to go on a nice little trip, so that was fun. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:04:41 like a weekend. Chattanooga. Is that right? Yeah, Chattanooga. Last time I thought it was Knoxville, so I could remember it was Knoxville. Yeah, this time Chattanooga. It's only like two hours away. But what did you guys do? We just wanted to see like the fall leaves. You know, like the drive is so pretty. Yes. I think it's like in two weeks I think it'll be like at the prime. It was not quite.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Really? So you're saying I could go do it? Yeah. Now is the time. Like this is my favorite time of year because it's like the drive is so pretty. You know that it makes me really want to go. The one place I would love to go for. The fall leaves is Vermont and like upper northeast because everybody says those fall leaves are
Starting point is 00:05:20 insane. Oh my gosh, I've heard that too. What, in Massachusetts? Yes. Like Salem? I've been seeing so many posts of... People always post go to Salem in October because of like the Salem Witch trials and stuff. So it's like a Halloween activity.
Starting point is 00:05:34 Mm-hmm. I think they have a lot of activities that go on around that holiday. I feel like that would be really fun. You know what I mean Halloween. And then they go do fall. You do love Halloween. Did you watch a lot of scary movies this Halloween? That's your favorite?
Starting point is 00:05:46 Yeah, I did. I watched all the Halloweens again. Does Cheezhead like Halloween movies? Not as much as me, but he did. He liked these. Okay. So it won't be a problem moving forward that you like to basically watch scary movies all the time. Right.
Starting point is 00:06:01 He doesn't like to watch him by himself. Fair? If he's with me. I just don't get scared. Like, I can be at home and watch him by myself and I don't get scared. Are you afraid of anything? Not really. Anything in life?
Starting point is 00:06:13 Yeah. Oh. Oh, are you kidding? Yeah. You said nothing very confidently, and I was just going to let that happen. I'm not scared of people like breaking in my house. else. Really?
Starting point is 00:06:22 Or like a murder coming with a knife. Okay. Oh, dang. I'm scared of all those things. I shouldn't have said that. You might have just jinxed it now. Oh, my gosh. I hope not.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Oh, yeah. I'm a big baby. Like, I'm not a worst case scenario person, but like sometimes I'll be like, nope, this is where I'm going to die. Somebody's going to come barging in. Or I'll hear something outside just like one little noise and it'll actually make Remy bark and Remy never barks. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Well, yeah. And then it'll be like, I don't know. Something just crunched on a leaf wrong and that's, she just happened to hear it. And I'm like, oh, I'm dying. No, that does scare me. When I've been at your house watching her, she barks. I'm like, oh, my gosh, she knows something. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Oh, my, she heard it. What's happening? She knows your house better than Maisel. What's going on? Well, and she doesn't bark at a lot of things. So when she does bark, you're like, okay, so see it's happening. Yes. But now she also barks at my cat.
Starting point is 00:07:08 So it could have just been Hazel doing her nocturnal stuff. And her, like, pulling open the cabinets. Like what in the world? Little rascals. It's so funny. Okay, so scary movies. watched a lot of scary movies and you guys went in Chattanooga. Did you have a favorite place while you were there? There was, what was it? The Stone Cup. That was really good for breakfast.
Starting point is 00:07:28 The bread. Stone Cup. Ever or just there? Okay, there. See, I just. Just there. I just had to confirm. I'm saying big statements today. You know, it's a Thursday that we're recording this, so you deserve that. It is. Oh my gosh. The ice cream show is the best. I've probably told you this before. I don't know if we've talked about it. But the ice cream show, it's like they have thousands of combinations of ice cream. And it's the ice cream show? That's what it's called.
Starting point is 00:07:54 The ice cream show, it's like a, you walk in. It's just a normal ice cream shop, but it's called the ice cream show for some reason. I thought you were talking about a show on Netflix. Oh, no. No, it's a place. It's an ice cream place. And do they put on an ice cream show? Not really.
Starting point is 00:08:09 I don't know why it's called that. But like just the way they mix it, it's just different. It's like this machine that's really old and it like squishes it down. It crunches it into a cup. It's really weird. I don't know. It's so good, though. And it tastes amazing. Yeah, it's delicious. The Stone Cup and the ice cream show. Yeah. If you go to Chattanooga and go check out the fall leaves in a couple of weeks.
Starting point is 00:08:26 Yes. I walk across the bridge. Oh my gosh. Oh, there was this, the largest, like, rowing. It's called a regatta that was happening in Chattanooga. I was like, why can't we find a hotel? I know. Should have said that. Chattanooga for the weekend. I know. Well, they were like college athletes in high school. Okay. You didn't include that detail. I know. Should have said that.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Otherwise, yeah, that would have been, wow. There were a lot of athletes. Dang. It was really cool. Like, rowing on the river? So we say the longest, like the longest, meaning like it's longer than a typical rowing? It's the largest, like in international. I guess everybody meets their.
Starting point is 00:09:03 It's the largest rowing competition or the particular boat is the longest. It's the largest. largest competition. Okay, because I was definitely rolling with the fact that these are like the largest, longest boats ever. No, I wanted to note because like some of them there's 12 people, I guess, no, six people, 12 oars. Six people, sometimes there's four, sometimes there's only two.
Starting point is 00:09:24 So I wanted to know, like, all about it. It was really cool. Did you guys watch some of the competition? Yeah. It's intense. I actually tried out in college to be on the rowing team. But I would have been the, I think the Coxon where you sit in there. It's like the one that sits at the front.
Starting point is 00:09:38 and tells the rowers what to do. Oh, and yells at everybody? Yeah. And I was like, oh, my gosh, I don't think I can do this. That's like, they're not even looking. Their back is forward. So they're trusting you 100%. It's like you have to have a lot of knowledge and a lot of motivation.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Yes. And you have to say all these terms. Like, starboard side, turn, left. You know, oh, we're coming towards a bridge. Like, don't hit it. Yeah. You know, it's funny. There was a decent amount of people that tried out for the rowing team when I was at
Starting point is 00:10:04 K-State, like, friends-wise, because they were just recruiting. like whoever wanted to try out. I never had the desire to be a rower. I'm going to be honest. I do rowing in workouts now and even then I'm like, 50 meters? That's a lot. It is an intense workout. Like if I do the rowing machine, yeah. It's like, oh, my.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Oh, sorry, and I should specify it. Not 50 meters because that's not a lot. 50 calories is what they make us do. Oh, they do? And that is so much. Jeez, how many is that? How many rows? Oh, it takes you a solid couple minutes to be rowing to get to 50,
Starting point is 00:10:34 at least at my capacity for rowing. But there's a really good rowing movie that you show Boys in the Boat. Oh, I did see that. Did you watch it? No, I mean, I didn't see the movie. I should know better. You didn't watch it. You never watch any of the movies.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Yeah, you'd be shocked. So shocked. I don't know if it's on Netflix. I rented it at one point, but I do think it's on one of the streaming services now. Let me see. Let me look it up. Do a little flibbering for me right now. But yeah, it was cool.
Starting point is 00:11:03 It was intense. So that was crazy because Chattanooga's pretty. pretty small. So have 5,000 athletes and then their parents, but it was just really cute, all the parents cheering them on. It was really sweet, like from the bridge, because they were standing on the pedestrian bridge, like, looking down and cheering. And I was like, oh my gosh, it brought me back to, like, high school. My sports days. It was really cute. That's so fun. That's like a fun weekend. Okay, it's on Amazon Prime. And Roku also channel premiums. Okay. I'm going to check that out. Or Sling TV, or you can rent it. Yeah, but I think it's on Amazon Prime. So if you have Amazon Prime.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Gotcha. But cool, Chattanooga. What else is new? Oh, man. You guys moved in together yet? Not yet, no. That's still in the works? Taking things slow. It's been a year, so. Did you celebrate your year anniversary? Was the Chattanooga trip, the year anniversary trip? No, it wasn't. It hasn't, I guess, been officially since we've met, it's been over here. We're in between. I guess, like, when do you celebrate a year anniversary? Is it when you're official or when you, like, your first date? What is it? I, well, I always, like, you've known each other for however long since you, who met, but I feel like the anniversary is like when you officially started dating.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Because you at least typically remember that date more than you remember the date of your actual meeting sometimes. Yeah, that's true. So are you guys going to do something for it? Are you going get him a gift? First anniversary gift? I probably will. What do you get that? I mean, things that they like, personal things to them would be a really like. Yeah, you could get just a regular, just gift, anything that they might like. But I would say something personal to him that like maybe he doesn't realize you've noticed about him would be a good gift, especially at being like your first anniversary to celebrate together, something that like you've come to mind. Like what I do when I start seriously, like exclusively dating someone is I put a bunch of notes
Starting point is 00:12:50 in my phone and I'll keep track of just things that I've noticed. And I use that for Christmas or birthdays or um, anniversaries or whatever. Not that I've had an anniversary in a hot minute. But I use that like for my thing. So I don't know if you do that, but that could be a way to, like, find some, a few different personal things. Yeah, that's cute. To go together. The hard thing is, is our, the anniversary would be, like, two weeks before Christmas.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Then there's Christmas and then his birthday is two weeks after. So it's just like all these gifts, you know? Okay, so you got to spread them out. Yeah, I'm like spreading it out. And I'm like, which would be best for this and this and this. Okay, so maybe the anniversary gift is a good experience for both of you. And that's your gift. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I don't know what you're doing, but like, this is mine. Yeah. It's something you guys can do together. It's like an experience, yeah. I like doing that anyway. Like the game, like I'd rather take him to a game since it's an experience than have a thing. Yeah. He's not all about like just material things.
Starting point is 00:13:44 He likes. So yeah, then experiences. And there's so much stuff you guys could go doing Nashville that you'd have so much fun doing for that kind of thing. You should go eat at House of Cards. It's one of my favorite places to eat. Yeah, I've never been. I sent my parents on an anniversary dinner there. It's been a long time since I've gone.
Starting point is 00:14:00 But I sent my parents shortly after and they also loved it. they went for their anniversary dinner. It's a cool spot. You get a magic show or you could do La Petit Chef. That looked like the cutest thing ever. Oh my gosh. Also dinner and a show. That's so fun.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Do they still have it? It wasn't just like a thing. No, it's like a longstanding pop-up. They're doing it for a long time. That's awesome. So I would say either one of those is really cool. Okay. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:14:23 I got you. Cool experiences. He's not going to listen to this, so he won't know. He's not. I hope not. Hey. Hey, she said, please leave. Goodbye.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Yeah. What's new with you? What's new with you? Let's go. I mean, honestly, nothing. Abby, I'm not on dating apps. My birthday weekend. I deleted all the dating apps. I'm just floating and existing in the world. And letting things happen to me. I'm very much in this space where I'm just letting things pass how they're supposed to pass kind of thing. I've tried to really like relinquish control, if you will, to just about everything. of like I felt there was so much of me that was just trying to because like I look at my life and I have like a really awesome life I have a good career and I have good friends and family and I have my house and the animals and like life is good I have a really good life that I'm very very lucky to have and I was just so caught up and trying to meet someone
Starting point is 00:15:29 because I desperately want it that's still there right Like the feeling of that is still there. I want to share my life with somebody because it is so great, I want somebody to be in it and it just be this incredible love. But I'm also just, I'm not going to force that either. I'm not going to settle and I'm not, you know, Sally had her situation that happened. And Sally wasn't going to force that situation to happen. The Halloween situation is going on with. Halloween man, I'm not, I'm not forcing that. I'm just, I'm in this place where like, I want to
Starting point is 00:16:08 meet someone who genuinely wants to be part of my life and wants us both to be very, very happy. And I feel like there's just been so much pressure and stuff, like feeling, I feel, and I put it on myself sometimes where like, you know, I got to find this and I got to figure this out. And I'm just no longer in that space anymore where I'm like, I'm just done. I'm just done. allowing that pressure to control all of this because I'm tired. Dating sucks so bad. Like, genuinely, it's so exhausting. I know.
Starting point is 00:16:40 And meeting somebody and getting excited about them and then it, like, going to crap. It's not fun to keep doing all the time. It is exhausting. It's so exhausting. Sharing so much your life and then just being like, okay, what was that? Nothing? Like, you know, you don't want to hang out with me? Like, what?
Starting point is 00:16:57 Or just, like, the lack of communication as adults. Like, this is what, this is what. this is what I don't understand. It's like I went out with a guy. We had drinks and the drinks were good. But I just, I wasn't really feeling it afterwards. There wasn't a part of me that's like so,
Starting point is 00:17:12 it was so excited to go see him. And so like my texting was not great. I wasn't like communicating super well of like, it was like I would text back, but it'd take a couple hours or whatever. And then it just kind of fizzled. And a few days went by and I was like, I'm not,
Starting point is 00:17:28 I'm not going to be this person. That's not who I am. I'm not going to sit here and like, does he probably care that I didn't? To an extent, no. But like, there's not a person in this world that doesn't deserve the closure of, even if it didn't work out after a first date, not getting some type of, hey, like, sorry, this won't work. So, like, I sent a text over to him. I was like, hey, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:17:50 I know it's been a few days. This might feel weird. But I just wanted to let you know, like, I think I was not super as interested as I wanted to be. and, you know, I wish you all the best. And, like, we had a great amicable, like, ending conversation. And that never happens. Nobody ever does that. I don't know how many guys phone numbers I have that have just, like, went into the abyss.
Starting point is 00:18:13 And I just never heard from them again. Oh, yeah. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. Sometimes they would do that. And I was like, oh, my gosh, I appreciated that so much, like, more than you know, which is sad because it shouldn't be like this, oh, my gosh, he actually did text me. That should just be, like, a standard thing.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Like, just be honest. Like, why would you not? And I know they're probably scared of the response or, you know, like, afraid to hurt their feelings. But I'm like, I would rather have the truth than wonder why. Because then you're just like, okay, what happened? If you say, if you're just up front and they're like, hey, I didn't feel it or I met somebody else. Like, yeah, sure, it's a sting for a second. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:47 You know, it's a little bruised ego. You're like, dang, okay, that sucks. But you get a closure, like a door opened, it closed. And you're like, okay. You don't just have this door sitting there open forever. And wondering. Like there were, there's, I mean, they're, like, these are all casual dates. None of them have gotten to the point of, like, full-blown dating.
Starting point is 00:19:05 But there was also, like, two guys that, at different times that I had gone out with. And both of them amicably. That's such a tough word to say. I don't know why. Amlicably. Amicably. Yeah, amicably. Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Ended well, because, you know, I was like, I'm not feeling this. But, like, I. and what was interesting is my new therapist had said, give them the opportunity to still be in your life if they want to in a capacity of friendship. I was like, I don't know. That just feels so weird. And she's like, why? She's like, it's not your decision to make.
Starting point is 00:19:41 It's theirs if they would like to stay in your life and be your friend. But like, you're not even giving some situations that option. So that helps me see things in a new way. So I've at least ended them a little bit more in the terms of like, I'm around if you ever like, would like to hang out as friends, whatever. And they did. They've transpired to be like friendships or whatever.
Starting point is 00:20:00 And that just never was really a thing before because dating was so black and white to me. No, that is interesting. Like to think of it that way. To be like, oh, no, just because we didn't work out as like romantic partners, like, why can't he just be a friend that we just like hang out? And then you meet his friends. And I guess to me there's always been this touchy where like somebody's going to have feelings if one person, and ended it over the other. And I think that's why I always, like, would just cut it off completely.
Starting point is 00:20:30 But I don't know. You know, we're growing. We're seeing how things go. It could go horribly wrong. Who knows? Yeah. But so one of them is still a friend. Another one is friend by friend.
Starting point is 00:20:40 So we're still on good terms. And both of them were like, well, if you know, anything changes, let me know. It's like, okay, I can't really tell if we're open-ended friends or like, what's happening here. I know that is. And then the Sally one, man. And Sally, she had ended that and sent a text, like, kind of being like, I'm not sure this is going to work and literally never heard from him again. No, uh. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:21:06 You want to kick her? Yeah. He still watches her social media. Really? Wait, does he follow her? Yep. Does she follow him? Yep.
Starting point is 00:21:16 That's, I don't understand. I don't understand that. Yeah. Well, because Sally's like, well, I didn't really do anything, so I'm not really sure how to, you know, handle this. this situation, I'm just going to exist here, I guess. Just going to live my life. But again, it just goes back to like, why as adults can we not just genuinely communicate? I mean, and I'm still learning it. I'm still learning that like I can accept people as friends. Like, that's something. But that's, that's even deeper than just the communication level.
Starting point is 00:21:43 So all that to say, dating is still freaking weird and I'm exhausted and I've given up in a way. Don't give up. But also it's like, giving up in a way of like, I'm open to. it in real life. I'm just no, I'm not on the dating apps anymore and I have like my goal for myself is I'm not getting back on them until after the new year. Wow. I love that. I'm just like allowing myself to be in this space right now where I'm just, I'm good. Yeah, a nice little refresher. Yeah. And I have a moment where I'm like, okay, well, I can get back on. But I just don't, I don't think it's productive for me right now. And if somebody would really like to date me, then they will, whether that be in real life, social media, whatever like they will make it happen yeah if they want to spend time they're going to make the effort
Starting point is 00:22:30 like exactly people do what focus their attention on what they want so it's like oh if you're too busy that's i think your priorities are somewhere else and that's totally fine that's okay it's just not and i'm i am learning to just no longer like forcibly try and control anything i'm just letting it like roll off my back and just let things pass through me like they're supposed to and have zero expectations for what they could be. And it's really hard. That is not easy at all. No, but I am.
Starting point is 00:23:01 I'm just, imagine me like a pretty little butterfly. Just floating around. I land on things occasionally. Sometimes I hang out longer than others. But for now, I am just a Christmas butterfly. There's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with that. It's like time to focus on yourself and what you get to do.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Yeah, which, you know, but I feel like for the last 10 years I've been focusing on my That's what I said. That's why I'm saying. If somebody keeps making me focus on myself, I'm going to be focusing on myself a little too hard. I'm going to get to a point where I'm like, I'm good. I know. That's the thing. You start getting set in your ways. I thought that for a while, actually, like last year. Like, I was like, oh my gosh, what if I'm just like too good at being single? What if I don't know how to be with somebody?
Starting point is 00:23:44 What if I'm so set in my ways? Like, I have my own house. I have things the way I want it. What if I'm not physically able to be in a relationship at this point? But I guess I can, but I thought that. I was scared. And I am sure there's been challenges for you where that's come up where you're like, okay, now we're getting serious things. And I am going to have to let go of some of that.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Yeah. It's been a lot. And that's probably why you're sitting here like, okay, we need to take this slow. Like I really need to take this all in and understand what's happening here. So I think that's totally normal too because you did. You were out of place in your life where you were good and you were happy. But I was also like very lonely. because what we do, like we go to concerts and it's all fun.
Starting point is 00:24:26 We take our girlfriends. But I was like, oh my gosh, I'm tired of taking my girlfriend. You know, like, I'd like to take a guy because you always see at concerts like everybody holding hands and you're just like, oh, that was so romantic. Especially because they're country concerts. Yes, they're all romantic. They got all these love songs. Everybody like embracing each other.
Starting point is 00:24:40 And I just remember being like, oh my gosh. I'd be like, let me embrace this beer real quick. Throw another one back. Okay. Let me go to the bathroom real quick. Yeah. So, like, that was like hard too. It's like a fine line.
Starting point is 00:24:51 It's like in between like, I'm so. So I'm happy, content with myself. But also I do want to add a good guy that's a good addition to my life, you know. And you have found that. And she's happy. Yeah. And now you're just like your body's, your nervousism is trying to allow it to continue to happen. Right.
Starting point is 00:25:06 And not like chase it away or be scared of it. Yeah. And so it's like, I know it's out there. And that's why I know with you. Like it, ugh. It took. It's a lot. Like just waiting and you feel like, oh my gosh, am I never going to meet somebody?
Starting point is 00:25:18 But it happens. We nearly least expect it. No, and I used Martha May Hoovier as a verb the other day. Wait, okay, hold on. First of all, do you know The Grinch movie? I need to ask that before I try to make this reference. Yeah, okay. Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:34 How the Grinch told Christmas, Dr. Seuss. Yes. You know this movie. Mm-hmm. Okay, so I got a dress that has like fur on it and I'm obsessed with it. It's very Christmassy. And I was like, if somebody does not Martha May Huvier, me up in this dress, I give up. That's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:25:52 So I'm in by waiting for somebody to Martha Mayhuvier, me up. Yes. That's what I'm at. Let's go. That's funny. That's your motto? Yeah, Martha Mayhuvia season. And then if they know, that's also a test, if they know the reference.
Starting point is 00:26:08 That's so true. I just keep entering different random seasons and just seeing, you know, what sticks. Something has to stick at some point. I know. Whatever. Why not? Oh, my gosh. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:19 We're going to take a little break. here and we'll be right back you can have opinions you can have like a strong stance and then there's your body having its own program i'm dr maya shunker a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast a slight change of plans a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans we share stories and scientific insights to help us all better navigate these periods of turbulence and transformation. We break down budgeting, financial discipline, and how to build real wealth, starting with the mindset shifts. Too many of us were never, ever taught. Starting point is 00:28:43 My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. You're going to look at stats and numbers. He has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge. huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
Starting point is 00:29:02 The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, inside American soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the Iheart radio app, Apple podcast, wherever you get your podcast. Hello, gorgeous. It's Lala Kent, host of Untraditionally Lala. My days of filling up Cups at Sir may be over, but I'm still loving life in the valley. Live on the other side of the hill is giving grown-up vibes, but over here on my podcast,
Starting point is 00:29:31 untraditionally Lala, I'm still that Lala you either love or love to hate. I've been full on over sharing with fans, family, and former frenemies like Tom Schwartz. I had a little bone to pick with Schwarzy when he came on the pod. You don't feel bad that you told me I was a bootleg housewife? I almost flipped a pizza in your lap. Oh my God, I literally forgot about that until just now. Sorry, I don't want to blame alcohol. I got to blame that one on the alcohol.
Starting point is 00:29:56 This is about laughing and learning when life just keeps on life in. because I make mistakes so that you guys don't have to. We're growing, we're thriving, and yes, sometimes we're barely surviving, but we do it all with love. It's unruly, it's unruly, it's un-a-fraid, it's Untraditionally Lala. Listen to Untraditionally Lala on the I-HartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. If you are a founder or a freelancer or the friend who always says, hey, you know what, what if I started that? This is for you. I'm telling you I had nothing to my name.
Starting point is 00:30:27 I didn't know a single person in New York. And somehow I'm dressed by Oscar de Lorenta walking down that red carpet. This month, we sit down with entrepreneurs and creators who actually did it, who turned the scary leave into a business, a paycheck, and a life they are proud of. Direct center of our happiness or our regrets is whether or not we're taking action on the things that matter to us. They're not selfish. They're so important. They actually lead to our greatest contributions because when we're living fulfilled, we actually show up better everywhere.
Starting point is 00:30:56 We lead better. We're better friends. we're better relationships and collaborators and all those things because we have passion about the things we're doing. If you're trying to build something of your own this year, join us in these conversations that will make you braver and smarter with your money. Listen to Dos Amigos as part of the My Cultura podcast network available on the I-HeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Okay, Abby, what is something you probably should do, but you never do?
Starting point is 00:31:26 Like, as an adult, I should probably do this. don't like to it, I won't do it. The reason this came up is because I was talking to one of my friends who's kind of a lawyer and they were like, you know those terms and conditions, like you really should read through those. Oh gosh. Because they watched me just like scroll and
Starting point is 00:31:43 go in it. I was like, admittedly, I don't think I've ever seen, ever, ever read a single terms and condition on any level. I even like when I was going through like buying my house like all of that paperwork. Thankfully, my mom's a realtor and so she knew a lot of the language and everything.
Starting point is 00:32:01 But my eyes rolled in the back of my head when I started reading everything. I was like, I don't know what any of this means. Oh, my gosh. No, me neither. Oh, and like now at this, now they make you like scroll all the way of the bottom just to say, but it's like you're just scrolling. You're not really reading. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:32:17 They do that to be like you should read it, but nobody does. And then they're like, when you say, oh, I didn't see that in there. They're like, oh, you scroll to the bottom. So you saw it. Oh, gosh. Exactly. So like you really should read it. Yeah, I should.
Starting point is 00:32:30 really do that. But if you imagine how much of our life we would waste if we all actually read the terms and conditions? So much. That's true. For every single thing we have. How many terms are there? I don't even know. On every single app, think about on every single TV streaming you have on your computer or on your TV, every single app you have on your phone, every single time you check out at, I don't know, like say a best buy. Sometimes the target they have them, depending on the product that you by. Imagine how we all actually sat there and read terms and conditions. You know, but I got time for that. Hold on. What are the main points? Like something that I really need to be worried about because, I mean, a lot is just, I believe. And a lawyer out there can correct me wrong. But really,
Starting point is 00:33:16 the most important thing is that whoever makes the product and whoever is selling the product is not liable for certain things. But what's crazy is the reason this also got brought up is because there was a story about a guy, and I think we talked about on the show too, a guy who was a doctor and he died at Disney from like an allergy, something that happened. And this is all like, I'm paraphrasing here. I'd have to look it up. But he died. And because he had signed terms and conditions on Disney Plus, it was like they couldn't sue
Starting point is 00:33:53 Disney or something. I don't know if that ended up panning out and what the update is there. But this is why this whole conversation I've come up as like make sure you do terms and conditions. Oh my gosh. But they also take your information. They're like, can we access your whole Facebook and your whole life? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:10 You know, like. Also all the social media that you're on. That's scary. So they have your info. That's basically what they're giving them okay. It's like, no, all I wanted to do is like watch this TV show or I don't even know what I'm trying to get what I'm trying to do. But terms and conditions. And I'm like, well, no, I don't really want to.
Starting point is 00:34:26 And I believe it's like a lifetime. thing. So once you sign it once, like whatever that is, is a good for life. All could be speculation. Like I said, I haven't read it enough to have the information, but those are the things that I've learned so far on terms and conditions. But all that's to say, is there something in your life that you probably should do and you don't actually do? I'm usually pretty good at this, but lately I have not, well, changing your oil and your car. I'm way past, way past the oil change mileage. Like way past, you mean like, you know, a couple thousand miles. A thousand. I usually am so good at it because I'm like, I want my car to last forever. This, this reminds me,
Starting point is 00:35:05 Abby, and you should definitely do that because there's a reason. Maintenance is a thing. Maintenance on your car. Even though you've waited. I took my car in to get oil and tires rotated like I do. Tires rotated. That's another one. Oh my gosh. My left tires were bald. He was like, That's what the guy said to me. He's like, your left tires are bald. I was like, oh my gosh. He's like, do you rotate them? I was like, no.
Starting point is 00:35:31 Sorry. I was like, I've never in my life heard something called tires bold. Yeah, my tires are bald. I mean, there's nothing left. There's no traction, no the grooves or whatever. They're just like. So you need new tires. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:46 Okay. Because I ruined them because I didn't rotate them. See? But I get mine rotated every, as the thing. I have the little sticker in the corner of my car, and every time I go and I get them, my oils change, my tires rotated. So I go in to do that. And I'm like, ma'am, you need new tires. I'm like, cool, lovely, this sucks.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Let's get my new tires. And they're like, you'll have to come in next time. We'll get them ordered, whatever. So I go in, get my new tires. And they're like, and that's when they did. They were going to do alignment and fix some brake pad stuff. My car is getting older. And I was like, okay, fine, just do it.
Starting point is 00:36:16 So I sat there for like four hours getting my car worked on. And at the very end, they're like, we. We can't do the alignment because you need a new rod and I was like, you've got to be getting me. So I'm now about to return for my third time to sit at the service center to get my car worked on. You know, talk about being an adult. Car issues are one of the worst problems to have. They are the worst. That's the last thing you want to spend money on.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Like the absolute last thing is I want to buy tires. Exactly. And you know what? If we lived in a city like New York, I'll be on the subway all the time. The subway all the time. Like if we had a great bus, like we, I see buses around here, but if we actually had a full-blown great subway bus system, I would be using it. You would, really?
Starting point is 00:36:57 I hate, I hate getting my car service. It's so frustrating. And the poor guys, they're like, know that I get frustrated. They're like, okay, ma'am, we have to, like, preface this, like, because they're really great. They're like a mom-and-pop place. And they're like, this sucks. But this needs this. And I'm like, God on!
Starting point is 00:37:18 Why? Because back to being single, I don't have anybody who can pick me up from there. So either I get, I drop my car off and have to Uber back home and Uber back there or I just have to sit there. And so I go and sit there because I don't want to, it's just so much work to Uber all the way across town and pay money for Uber's. I know. So it's, it is worse. Then I get frustrated that I'm single because I'm sitting there and I'm having so many car problems. There's a domino effect. Oh, yeah. It just, it creates all this like. I'm like, okay, I'm just going to sit right here. I bring Remy with me and we sit in this service center for like four hours and I work and
Starting point is 00:37:54 Remy's just hanging out. That's a good one. Thanks for putting me on the tan and I've forgotten about that. I forgot about the tires. We both need new tires. Yeah. Yep. Cool.
Starting point is 00:38:06 Because one side is. And neither one of us want to get it done. That's what, that's adulting is what that is. It is. It's just the worst. It's just what one of all. I don't have time to sit in there. I just don't.
Starting point is 00:38:16 See? Did your, does cheesehead come and pick you up? I've Ubered before. But not, I guess not with him. Well, because I haven't gotten him changed just in a year. Okay. Let me know if he helped you. He would.
Starting point is 00:38:28 He would, yes. I'll make you feel better. No, he would make me walk home. No, gosh, no, don't make me feel better that way. He better be helping you. No, he totally would. He's always there. Yeah, and I was just sitting there watching people come and go with all their couples.
Starting point is 00:38:43 And I was like, I hate my life. I was like the kid in the window shop because I had my computer there and I was literally like a kid looking out and seeing toys that they can have. Because I'm just sitting there working. I'm like, don't mind me. Been here since 11 a.m. That is, it's the worst. You're like, they're like, so you want to stay here?
Starting point is 00:39:05 Or like, what do you want to do? You're like, yeah, what's the Wi-Fi? I'm going to stay here. Yeah. When they have like a person that drops them off, but I'm so far across town from this place, that it's such it would take more time like by the time I got dropped off and got home I'd be there for like 20 minutes and be like can you come get me again so you might as well stay oh geez this is the dumbest stuff ever this is this is just real life right here oh I want to I want to tell you about it
Starting point is 00:39:31 a freaking weird DM that I got I'm scared I'm scared really might be just the most offhanded DM I've gotten no ever oh see ever that's a big ever. Okay. Out of nowhere, I've never talked to this person in my life. What? We'll play a small version of 21 questions and see if you can figure it out. We'll do like five questions.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Ask me five questions and see if you can figure out what this message was. What the message was? Yeah. Do they follow the show? Like, was it regarding the show? Nope. It was not about the show. Do they follow you?
Starting point is 00:40:09 Yes. Did it have to do with taking you on a date? No. Did they see you out in public and they like wanted to say hi? Nope. Nope. I'm scared. I'm scared.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Did they send you pictures of your house? Because they were out in front taking pictures of your house. Could have been the dude. No. No, it wasn't that. It was NSFW. No. No.
Starting point is 00:40:39 Oh. No, surprisingly no. I'm surprised that this particular text was not accompanied by a picture of something I would definitely not want to receive. Okay, so it wasn't a picture, but... It was a comment. Oh, no. No. And I don't want to say, I'm going to try and reference this in a way, because in case there are little ears around.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Cover your ears. It has to do with licking. and it has to do with no no wait I got one too wait it was really inappropriate yeah it was so inappropriate
Starting point is 00:41:18 I didn't like it because it had to do with my boyfriend and they were saying and I'm like oh no I mean well mine didn't have to do with a boyfriend mine had to do with them wanting to do something involving licking with me oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my god and I've never spoken to this person in my entire life okay
Starting point is 00:41:34 they sent other ones or it was just a blank oh. Also, this has gotten to be the worst. It's escalated. What do they think it's going to come out of that? I don't know. Oh gosh. Did you reply? I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. Did you block them? It's sitting in my like request thing or whatever. Yeah. That is, that's all. Just why. Welcome to being a woman. That's, we don't want that. At least it wasn't the picture. I have a feeling the picture is not far behind. Can we receive? those? Just Instagram filter those out. I think Instagram at this point is filtering things. And I do think you have to approve to see a photo, like approve the message to see a photo. I was like, knock on wood, but I have not received one. I haven't either. And if anybody ever does, you will be deleted, blocked and reported to the police immediately. I have seen on different ones. They're like, viewer discretion advised. Do you want to see it's sensitive material? Do you want to see this? Like, and you click, it's like on TikTok or whatever. Yeah. Maybe offensive, but that's never
Starting point is 00:42:36 been to the end. My gosh. Can you imagine it made me offensive? And that's what I'm like, yeah, that was. Warning. Oh my gosh. Please do not send. Okay. That is crazy. Yeah. Okay. I don't even know where to go from there. We're going to go from there. We'll be right back. You can have opinions. You can have like a strong stance. And then there's your body having its own program. Starting point is 00:47:50 I want to end on some fun little notes here because we talked about, you know, we got serious, share what's happening in our lives, talked about random DMs that we should not be receiving. Now we're here. Who is a national treasure that you don't mind, like, seeing pop up, whether it's in commercials on your social media fee. Like, if they pop up all the time. Dolly. Dolly. Dolly, the cutest lady ever, and she does nothing but help other people and do good.
Starting point is 00:48:21 And is so sweet. Always has the cutest outfits. Like, I never get annoyed. Yeah. Dolly's a good one. I could see Dolly a million times over. She could literally tell me, like, hey, your life sucks. And I'd be like, oh, Dolly, you're so right.
Starting point is 00:48:39 You speak the truth, Dolly. We're on the same page. Yeah, that's a good one. The one that I have was Paul Rudd. Oh, Paul Rudd. He's hilarious. He is so funny. And he, like, there are always just random videos of him.
Starting point is 00:48:52 And he's in random commercials. He's at sports games and he's like on random tell whatever the big screens are. Well, he's a KU fan. Yes. And he was a fan. He's a fan too. Right. And one time, this kind of relates to that.
Starting point is 00:49:07 He was at a game and he was eating a hot dog. And I have a picture and it says Paul Rudd eating a hot dog on the big screen. Like, that's the one picture I got. And I was like, that's exactly like so random. him. Paul Rudd eating a hot dog at this college game in Kansas. See, I think he's from Kansas. Yeah, because he's in clueless.
Starting point is 00:49:26 He's in clueless and he was wearing a KU hat in that movie. And I was like, oh my gosh. So yeah, I think he has to be. He's always. No, oh, I am, stand corrected. Okay. Wait, Jersey. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:42 He is from New Jersey. But his mom. and worked as a sales manager at a television station in Kansas City, Missouri. No way. Okay. So that's the connection. There had to be something. That is really funny.
Starting point is 00:49:56 Yeah. I forget like how random he is and how he just shows up. He is, but he's so funny and he's so just like all the time really kind. Nobody's that I know of has had anything bad to say about him. And he just randomly will always pop up on my social media fee. I'm like, yeah, you go pro rudd. Also, he hasn't aged at all. He has not.
Starting point is 00:50:13 He's like Benjamin buttoning. I know. Oh my gosh. I've never seen him on my phone. I bet you anything now that we're talking about it, he's going to come up on my social media all the time. Please send me videos of him. He makes me happy.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Paul Rudd. Paul Rudd. That's hilarious. Paul Rudd and Dolly. If you guys could also do a collaboration, that'd be cool. Oh, yeah, please. And then what's been, what's something that's been filling you with immense joy recently? Something that maybe it's new, maybe it's old and new again,
Starting point is 00:50:40 or just something that you're just like really, really happy. Every time it happens or you're involved around it. Oh, running. I would have to say. running because like I don't like running when it's freezing and I don't like running in the in summer it's too hot but like this weather right here I love it I could run forever and I find trails that are like along the river like on bike you know like greenways or whatever and I just run forever and I love it do you run with people uh cheese head cheese head you guys are both runners yeah he likes to run
Starting point is 00:51:08 because we're going to do the half again next year the half marathon so we're actually training this time and he like loves it and he's super competitive and so do I so we try to beat each other and And it's just really fun. So I actually feel safe running because I used to just go out and be like, well, I hope I'm making home. If I die, I die. Yeah, I'm like in a forest. I'm like, well.
Starting point is 00:51:25 That's not funny because that does really happen and it's really sad. Yeah. But it does happen. Like we have to watch our backs and like, you never know. Oh, you do. As a female runner for sure. Mm-hmm. And so now I actually feel safe running.
Starting point is 00:51:38 And it's just like all the endorphins. Tell me he's ran with his cheesehead before because that would make me laugh. No, he has not. He has not. I'm going to need him to do that. time just for the picture if they went to the Super Bowl he probably would that can that can be a bet okay but I feel like that's a bet it's going to take a little time you think that's too easy no more so that I just don't know that's ever going to happen I don't know anything about sports but I don't remember the last
Starting point is 00:52:02 time Packers have been in the Super Bowl I don't think this year I don't think this year but I don't know sorry packer's I don't know anything about sports I could be totally wrong um well that's fun yeah running running little run club she's headed out Abby. Running away. Running away in love. That's your new song. Running away in love. Yeah. Oh, actually, that's cute. I like that. I feel like there's something there. Yeah, I like it. But it's more metaphor. I don't feel like you should write about you guys actually running, but like it's a metaphor. Ready, ready, ready, yeah, unless you're actually running away from marriage or something. Do you run is a great song. Oh, it is. Such a great song.
Starting point is 00:52:44 Uh-huh. It pumps you up. I need to listen to. The chicks on the way home. Okay. So mine, what filleth your cup? Okay, Shakespeare. Yes, tell me. I don't know. I think this room is getting hotter.
Starting point is 00:52:59 It is. I'm sweating. Was that just me? I think I sweat through my jeans. I have sweated so much in these studios. There's no air in here. Oh, it's off. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:53:08 Don't tell everything. Well, it's off because they're trying to fix ours. Can we not turn it on? Nope. Sorry, I should have given me that. I would like to take my seat. sweater off right now, but all I have is a bra. And I can do that with you because you're a girl. You could unless someone came in. There's a window right here. I'm going to be sitting there my bra.
Starting point is 00:53:24 Okay, a little inside there. But the joint I have gotten from, I bought, I finally got a record player stand in. I saw that. They're so fun. And I bought a record player. Abby, I cannot tell you every time I put a record on and I hear it like just a little crackling noises. Yeah. I am so happy. Like, what is it about that? What is it? And the other day I went to, what are they called, a vinyl store, record player store, record store. So many names, I don't know. Record store. Record store. I don't know why I want to keep insert a record player store. Record store. And I was just sitting there, like, going through all these finals and finding
Starting point is 00:54:03 things. And I was so happy. Like, just so filled with joy. It is. And I was just, you know, by myself enjoying it. Like, I wish I could explain the feeling I get. when I have it, but that has been really fill up my cup. The vinyl. I love it. No, they really are. I remember when I got my record player, but I haven't really used it in a while. But like, I remember the initial. I was like, how did I not know this is so much better than listening to like a anything else? Because the crackles and you get to control what you want to put it on. And I get to go over there and put the little needle on it and then it starts moving and I'm like, this is so cool. It is awesome. And maybe it is a thing where it's like, I'm just so infatuated right now because I
Starting point is 00:54:46 just got it, but I love it. I'm obsessed. Oh my gosh. No, it really is. And there will come a time where I will have somebody in my home that I love, and we will be dancing to that final record player. Yes. Yes, you will. That's my only goal in life. Not really.
Starting point is 00:55:02 I have multiple goals. This is a goal at some point in my life. Hey, that's a cool goal. That is goals right there. Yeah. I want somebody, I want to be with somebody who will dance with me in the living room. Does Cheesehead dance with you in the living room? He's a really bad to dance. So no.
Starting point is 00:55:19 But it sounds like you're okay with that. Yeah, he's fine. He likes to. Like, it's fun. But, like, it's not going to be any, like, dancing with the stars or, like, ballroom dancing. But he does want to take, like, line dancing lessons because I've wanted to. And he's, like, on board now and I'm excited. Well.
Starting point is 00:55:35 Like, two-stepping line dancing. Yeah, let me come back into the Sally situation, right? Yeah. And for anybody who... Yes, it's me. That's the only time I'm ever going to say. Sally Weep
Starting point is 00:55:48 Veep Weep One of the Our third date That we had went on He had taken me to We went and took a two-steping Private lesson together
Starting point is 00:56:00 Really? And it was so much fun Abby A private I should totally go Two-step Okay And we had a great time
Starting point is 00:56:08 Like because he wasn't a big dancer But I knew I mean my parents My parents kind of raised me on two-stepping That's how they met That's so cute Oh I love it horrible. And so we went and did it and it was so much fun. It was? How long? It's like an hour?
Starting point is 00:56:22 Yeah. It's like our private lesson is relatively inexpensive. And it was a great date idea. Also the coach the whole time was like I can tell, you know, I always can tell if people are going to make it or not. I guess I should have called him after that day because I didn't. And maybe he would have, he would have known for Sally. Hold on. He said that. Yeah, he's like, I can always tell like based on how a couple interacts and how they dance, like if it's going to work or not. This could be a true test for you guys. He said what? He said it's like the same test as IKEA furniture. You put IKEA furniture together. Like, how does it work? Are you good?
Starting point is 00:56:55 Like, do you come away hating each other more? Do you come away better for it? He's like dancing is the same way. Oh, that is a good test. That is. Wait, did the guy should have really called him. Or Sally and him would. He didn't say, he didn't say he was like, but he's like, I've had girls who have called me after their lessons and be like, what do you think?
Starting point is 00:57:15 No way. And every time he's been right. Please call him. Oh my gosh. We need a follow up on that just to see what he said. If he remembers you. And be like, hey, what did you think? What did you think?
Starting point is 00:57:25 And he'll be like, wasn't feeling it. Be like, wow. Whoa. Are you a psychic? You're right. Or he could be like, yeah. Something about dancing, man. I can see that because it's like, it's frustrating.
Starting point is 00:57:35 You have to know if you're like patient enough. You can work together. Like, be annoyed with the other person not getting it. Be annoyed with yourself. Yep. It's for sure See? But it's a good
Starting point is 00:57:48 It's a good lesson Because you have to be able to work through things together And dancing is just something that's so trivial But it's a way to understand How you guys handle situations Where you don't know what's happening And know if they have rhythm or not Yeah
Starting point is 00:58:03 That's a red flag It's a great first date ladies If you're single out there Make a guy take you dancing That was the first date No that was our third date Man that's I feel like that's
Starting point is 00:58:12 It was a great We had a lot of great dates up until, you know, disappear on the birthday. Anyways, let's get out of here. How about that? Yeah, please, let me go jump in a pool. I feel like I just sat here and we had a mic in front of us and I just shared a whole lot of things. You did. Guys, please nobody called into the show.
Starting point is 00:58:30 Leave all of this on the best bits and you are just exclusive to this information. Yeah, this is sacred info. The only you guys get. And if anybody calls it in, I'm never sharing anything on the best bits again. I'll hang up. I'm just kidding. What do the guys say? I'll hang up and listen.
Starting point is 00:58:43 Oh my God, and I'll hang up and listen. Yes. Okay. Let's jump out of here. Tell people where they can find you, all the good stuff. On Instagram at Abby Lee Anderson. Check out my new song. We can't forget about that. Well, it's kind of new.
Starting point is 00:58:57 Ex-boyfriend material. It's about all those guys that Morgan's talking about right now. All those guys out there, don't be red flag material. Be green flag. Be a green flag. Can you write that song next? Be a green flag. Be a green flag and running away from love.
Starting point is 00:59:12 Yeah. If you get offended by ex-exing flag. boyfriend material, you're the problem. Honestly. Yeah. That's true. Okay. Check out my new podcast. Take this personally. You can get it wherever you listen to podcast. This week I had on the flirt coach who has actually been super helpful on me understanding just connections and
Starting point is 00:59:32 not everything has to have expectations. That's where some of this came from, me in this new way of life. And then I brought on one of my good friends, Ricky Sanchez, and we talked about more human connection stuff. So check this. that out. Hold on. Did he teach you how to flirt? No. His like his whole, it's just funny. Like, that's how, you know, he's like the flirt coach. Yeah. He encourages you to focus on the flirt as genuinely a way to connect with people, not just love interest, but like a way to connect with people in the world. Oh, I like that. And I loved the reframing of that because he's like, you know, how often do you have somebody where they come up and they're like, hey, you're hot, let's date. And it actually work.
Starting point is 01:00:10 It doesn't. Yeah. You know, what works is connection and. and being open to people and not having expectations and stuff. So it was super interesting. It gave me a new perspective. That is really cool. I like that. So he asked me to talk about dating and a little bit of flirting and like dealing with rejection, but not so much like, hey, you want to flirt?
Starting point is 01:00:28 Like, he did teach you though. Like when you're out at a bar, like make eye contact. Are they making eye contact? See how this goes. So he did talk about some of that also. Oh my gosh. I was always the worst like eye contact. I would avoid it.
Starting point is 01:00:41 I'd be like, that guy's so cute. I'm going to look down and never look up. Why do we innately do that? Like, cute guy, bye. Yeah, we do. It's just like an instant, like a reaction. Like, you can't even control it. I don't understand.
Starting point is 01:00:52 I always did that. Because we hate rejection. As humans, we hate rejection. But a guy, like, I'm not attracted to, I could stare into his eyes all day long. Well, poor guys. I guess if Abby is making eye contact with you, you're in the clear. That sounds so bad. Okay.
