If you guys haven't listened to this podcast before, typically what I do is I break down the best segments from the show this week and let you guys know what you missed or what you need to rewatch or re-listen to,

you know, all the good things. But my favorite personal part is I bring somebody on with me from the show and we just kind of dive into life. love sometimes. Who knows what we talk about. But this week, I am bringing on Abby because we got a lot to talk about, don't we have? Yeah, we do. Yeah, you've had a pretty big week. So we definitely have to dive into some things. So we're just not even going to tease you guys. We're just going to get going. Sounds good. Sounds good. All right, here we go. Amy shared on the show this week. A kind of embarrassing moment she had when Ashley McBride came in studio. They were recording the Woman of I Heart Country show. Amy embarrassed herself, or so she thought. And so I thought it would be fun if we shared just some fun stories that we may have with country stars that are just like behind the scenes things our fans can kind of connect with I guess. Yeah. Yeah. You got any good stories. I think I have a few. Okay. So one was I was just in at work, you know, it was everybody pretty much gone. And I'm just sitting there and I look over in Martina's there. Martina McBride and I love her. Like I grew up singing her songs,

you know, like karaoke and stuff. And she was in for something to do a different show. And I was, I, got to talk to her briefly, but I just, like, couldn't believe it. You know, like, that's the kind of cool stuff that happens. You're just sitting there and you don't expect that to happen at all. Yes, definitely. Okay. Martina McBride, we've got one. And then I have another one. So I love Keith Urban. I just think he's such a great guy. You know, you hear he's a good guy and he's always doing awesome things. But I've never actually met him. And I was actually at Bobby's like million dollar show, you know, the raging audience. Okay. Yes. They do every year at the Ryman. Yeah. And so I was actually working it when I was in promotions in radio.

Before you were working for the show. Yeah. So it was like before the show. They just asked me and I just kind of helped do stuff behind the scenes and make sure artists got to where they needed to go like from the dressing room to the stage. And I was back there and he was standing right next to me. And it was um Darius Rucker. So it was like them two. They were talking. And I was just standing there. Keith Urban and Darius Rucker while they were just having to chill like they aren't big celebrity conversation. Yes. And I was where I was supposed to be. Like I was supposed to kind of stand right there. So it's not like I was just like creeping and trying to be in their conversation. And they actually brought me in and they were like, hey, what's your name? So I was like in their little

triangle of talk. It was just so wild. Wait, so what did y'all talk about? I mean, I kind of just let them, because they were catching up. They hadn't seen him in a long time. And I was like, they don't care about what I have to say right now. You know, they didn't even know who I am. You should have totally owned that moment. I should have. So you just like said hi and then just kind of went back to working? Kind of. I mean, because they were talking about like what they'd been up to, where they'd been. And I was just like, yeah. Then I was like, now I just kind of feel weird. You guys are awesome. But I just kind of, you know, broke myself out of it. But I'm so disappointed Abby. You totally should have owned that moment. They brought you in for a reason. Right.

I just feel like when I'm working, I need to just kind of do stay professional and not like get in the way. So that's kind of what I was thinking. But I'm like, why didn't? Yeah, they, they introduced themselves. So why didn't I just? You should have. I know. I know. There was one time, so back when I worked for Wichita, so 102 on the Bull, back in Wichita, they did these, like, bowl nights out at Club Rodeo, and they'd bring artists in, most of the time that were, like, newer at the time. And this was, like, you know, five years ago, five, six years ago, right? And so Old Dominion came in one night for one of their shows.

This was kind of the beginning part of their career, like middle part, I'd say, beginning middle. They came in, I've loved Old Dominion since the beginning. They've been a band that I've loved. in country music. And so they come in and do this. I'm doing all the meet and greets, the videography, everything. So I am around them. I'm working with them, right? Yeah. So at the end of the night, we'd, we'd had enough interactions that by the time they got done performing, they're like, we're going to go hang out on our bus for a little bit

before we like peace out of town. You want to come and hang out with us? And I did. I went and hung out on the old Dominion bus with the guys for like, gosh, an hour before they like peace out of town at like 1230 and we're on their way to their next place. But I sat there and had these like great conversations with every guy in Old Dominion. It was so awesome. Are they like just as cool as you think they are? Just as awesome as they are on the show. Yeah.

They are in person. Even more so though because they're like sitting there just having a drink, having a good time talking to their friends. It's even more like chill, cool moment than they already are as celebrities on stage. Right. On the bus. Uh-huh. Wait, so they all have, they were in one bus back then?

Yeah, they were on one bus. I don't know if that's still the kids. case. I know, I feel like, if they still travel on one. They may, you know, want to spread out a little, that's a lot of guys who are on bus. But same, also on the same, like, club rodeo circuit, I still, to this day, like, Lohash and I are good friends from that. They came in and they, like, we had a deep conversation about Remy because one of the

guys' daughters, I believe it's a daughter, one of their kids named Remy. And so we connected about the name Remy, and he has it tattooed on him. and I know I should know more details about this, but it's been like six years now. But still to this day, every time I see them, they're like, we've loved watching you, like, just kind of grow up and come to be this person in radio or whatever. And so low cash has always been like one that's close to the heart for me. Like they've remembered me from Wichita to Nashville and we still have fun, like, conversations about it too. That's what I love about. We're catching up about Rimmies.

I know. That's what I love about these artists. They're so down to earth and they remember things about you. Like they'll bring up and, you know, how they're going back to the Wichita days. Like that's awesome. So many of them, like in country music too, they're just very down to earth. And I don't think a lot of people get lucky with that and a lot of music genres. But with the country artists, they just, they remember things and they know where they come from and they don't forget what happened in the beginning kind of thing.

Yeah. So I just think it's so cool. That's why I wanted to share some of these stories. So do you have any more fun ones? I do have one. So you know the Dirk's Bentley? Well, the hot country nights. Yes. That band like it's like the How do you even describe it? Where they all dress it Darks Bentley, but yes. Right. So I had a 90s country band and they they have mullets and they dress like the 90s. Yes. Well, I was at Whiskey Jam and they were playing it. And I was kind of in the back alley. Which for anybody who's listening doesn't know Whiskey Jam. Whiskey Jam is like a big show every Monday night in Nashville.

Pretty much every Monday night happens at Winners. Losers, it's kind of a whole thing with those bars. Usually it's inside, but like during the summer, they do outdoor ones and they're huge, like in the parking lot of losers. Like, it's really cool. Yes. So, yeah, it's like every Monday. But sometimes they bring like huge artists out and they were there.

And I was like in the back alley kind of by their bus. And I was like, oh my gosh, I have to go the bathroom so bad. But there were, there's no bathrooms. And I couldn't get in. The line was too long. And the bus driver was like, why don't you just go on on their bus? And I actually didn't because I was like, because the main, the line. lead singer was on the bus, he said. And I was like, I'm not just going to go on there and use his bus or

the bathroom. Like, he's just chilling. The lead singer would be Dirk's Bentley. Yes. He's like, oh, Dirk's is on there, but it's fine. He won't care. And I'm like, I'm not, what? I just walk on there. Oh, don't mind me. I'm just going to use her bathroom. I was like, I don't think that be, so I didn't do it. That's hilarious. But also shows how just chill they are because clearly, like Dirk's wouldn't care or his bus driver wouldn't think that that's an option. Yes. I like how he trusted me. Yeah. He's like, hey, you can just go the bathroom real quick. I know. You're fine.

Nothing about you's crazy. Right. I mean, I was talking to him for a while and probably, like, told him I worked for radio. So he probably knew that, you know, I wasn't like a crazy. He was like, oh, okay. Green flags. You know, trying to get on his bus. But that whiskey jam.

Like if people ever come to Nashville, that is absolutely a event people should go to. That's where I met the lead singer of Lone Star. Is it? That's where that whole like, yeah. So there was a moment. So Lone Star played Whiskey Jam. And I, gosh, I've not been to Whiskey. jam since I basically moved to Nashville.

You go to so many concerts that at this point, you're just going to the ones that, like, you really want to go to. And it's hard on a Monday night. It starts late. It gets over at, like, 11, so. Yeah, like that's school night. Right. I know.

Still an adult, still school night. But yeah, Lone Star was performing, so I was like, I have to go to this concert. I ended up being, like, side stage and got to meet the lead singer of Lone Star. I need to figure out his name. I have such a bad memory, y'all. Like this is why I suck at Easy Trubia and stuff because I can't retain information. It's only like front of mine. No, I'm with you.

I hear you. What is his name? Oh my gosh. This is going to bother. Hold on. I'm looking it up. Where is it? Why?

Oh, my gosh. There's so many. None of these are right. I'm looking up. Oh, Richie McDonald. Richie. There we go. I was like, I knew what I see it.

Yeah. Met Richie. And he was so awesome. He said his wife, like, listened to the show. And we had this whole great conversation. So that was a really. cool moment that also happened at Whiskey Jam. Oh, yeah, yeah.

There's a lot of cool things that happen there. I mean, who's in the audience? I've seen, I mean, I'm trying to think who I've seen. Well, you have, like, a lot of artists going out to support other artists at Whiskey Jam. And Nashville is so local that, you know, they're like, okay, well, we're not going to get bombarded here. So if you do go, like, keep your chill. If you do meet someone and you ask for a picture, just keep you chill. I got to say I did see Kit Moore there when I first moved here.

Did you ask for a picture? He's beautiful, obviously. And I was stupid and I did. And he took one, but I could tell I didn't like it. And I was like, oh, I should not have done that. You know, because it's like, you don't want to do that. Yeah. I mean, you can.

I mean, you can. He's not eating. He's not with, you know, kids or anything. So, like, you're in the clear. Uh-huh. Maybe he didn't mind. Like, he didn't say anything, but he wasn't, like, real excited to be like, yeah, I think he's a little bit more chill than people think.

Like, he's very, like, low-key chill. But yeah, you would see like country artists like in the crowd supporting other artists. Oh, for sure. It's also really cool about that event. Like, yeah. Not mentioned a lot on like all of the Nashville websites, which is interesting to me. But it's hit or miss. So there's like a whole Instagram account you can follow for Whiskey Jam and like go and see all these crazy artists.

Yeah. It is really cool. Any others that you have fun stories? I mean, this is fun. Like I'm recounting so many different ones from. I know. Because like we're not thinking about the show that we were. on and we get to see country artists

performance to you all the time. Like that at this point is just my job, right? I'm thinking of like things that are outside of my job realm because otherwise we'd have stories for days. Yeah. Like just more like organic things that happen. Yeah, that have like transpired. I saw Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman shopping in Green Hills.

Really? Wait, I saw her at the salad bar and she was in all white and I was like, she's an angel. She's an actual angel. She is a literal angel. I didn't bother them. I was like they were with your kids. They were out like having a family day.

And, you know, that's when you're not supposed to bother them. And I'm not going to. But it was just so funny to see them like out in the wild shopping at a place that I shop at too. And I was like, what is happening? I know. It's so cool because you're just like, oh, wait, is that really them? You do like a double take and you're like, oh, it is.

I'm just not going to bother them because they're normal people living life. The point of living in Nashville, too, is that you just get so used to seeing them that you can't bother them. If you do, then you're going to be bothering people all the time, right? Like, you just get used to living in Nashville and not just being the way of life. Unless they're a massive pop star, you just kind of leave them alone, which was the case with Keith Irman and Nicole Kimman, right? That's a freaking iconic couple in all of fame and fortune, right? Yeah. But you just kind of have to be like, okay, that's a memory I get a keep for the rest of my life, but never going to interrupt them in their daily lives. Right.

Exactly. Does that make sense? Yeah, for sure. I know I'm not supposed to ask that. People get so annoyed when they, when they ask, does that make sense? But sometimes I go on, like, rants and I have to be sure that I even got to my point. That was a thing. That does that make sense?

Yeah, no, I don't really get it. Is there any other great celebrity stories you want to share before we wrap it up and hear Amy's embarrassing moment? Well, there was that one I mentioned on the air, but there are only celebrities really in Wichita. They were called the Prairie Rose Wranglers. and they just asked a group of my school to go and we went to, we performed on Carnegie Hall in New York, and then we went to China and sang on the Great Wall. And I felt like a celebrity. I mean, like, yes, super cool with these people, but like you went to the Great Wall of China when you were a child. Yeah, like in middle school. And I'm wearing like cowboy hat, cowboy boots, wranglers,

like button up. And people were wanting their picture with me. That had never happened before. Isn't that so crazy? Like you go to another country and life's completely different. Uh-huh. I was insane. So that's like my biggest, like a celebrity, like a celebrity rose wranglers. They're no longer anymore, but, um, I mean, that's just, yeah. Something, something happened. Abby, what did you do? No, I don't do anything. But yeah, that was just funny. Like, I mean, we'd be walking and do you have like photos, videos of this memory. Oh, yeah. I have all kinds of pictures. And it was funny because my mom, she loves taking pictures and she went to, a lot of the parents went. And she was, you know, It's like recording on the Great Wall and there were, it's like, it's kind of bumpy because it's like all brick and, you know, like rock or whatever. And she tripped and fell and her camera just like exploded. And I just remember watching batteries just fly everywhere. So yeah, she got a lot of pictures before that.

I can't remember of it just like completely broke it. But yeah, I have pictures to look back. The poor Great Wall of China just doing good and bad for your family apparently. I know. I call it like the Great Fall on the Great Wall. Because it was really funny. that's amazing one more i'll mention before we go you made me think of this so i did as a kid my mom reminded me after you brought up that story on air she was like you knew you also sang with amy grant

in a christmas pageant when you were younger like that is so crazy well i think it's a thing she does because i i remember that eddie said i think his kids got the opportunity to do it i think it's something she's done throughout her whole career so she when she came into town for a tour we got like to sing as and I remember dressing up as an angel. That's so cute. Like we were background little angels in this thing and we sang like her harmonies or whatever. What? But yeah, there's some like really old VHS film of me doing this somewhere deep in the archives.

Yeah, can you find this? I want to see that. That's so cute. So there's that moment, but then also international harvester. Craig Morgan filmed that music video in Wichita. Wait, you went. And I was there too. Yep.

By the orfam. Yes. Oh my gosh. Oh, my God. So many of those scenes in the music video are from Wichita, Kansas. Yes. I never, like, made it, but I was in the crowd. Right, me too.

I was there. I completely forgot about that. I love that you and I were both there. Me too. Now I want to go watch it. I know. We've got to go watch that now. Did you ever see yourself pop up anywhere?

I don't think I did. There was so many people there that showed up. There were, yeah. It was like the thing. I mean, it was like the new story. Well, yeah, it's Wichita, Kansas like 15 years ago, right? And everybody's like, oh, a music video. country music video.

Everybody wants to go. I love you. Remember that. Yeah. They invited anybody and everyone. My parents have dropped me off and they're like, okay, go on. Call us when you're done. I was by myself just wandering the streets of Wichita.

I mean, I was like 12, so it's not like it was a big deal. I was probably a little bit older than that. Yeah. That's so wild. You and I was both there. No, speaking of music video, I'm actually an Old Dominion's music video. Which one? No, such thing is a broken heart.

Okay. So, what were you doing? My friend was like the assistant director. She was working on it. and she was like, hey, you want to come be like an extra? And I have to be one of the crazy fans in the alley. Like, you'll see me. They come out after doing a show and they open the side door and they run out to get in their

car and there's crazy fans running after them. And I was one of them. I had to be like screaming. So you can see yourself in that video. If you pause it. It's very quick. If you blink, you'll miss it. But yes.

I love that you remember that the Craig Morgan one. I love that we were both there and we, like, that was like a fate moment that was like setting us up for years down the road. Exactly. Like, maybe we even did talk that day, but we probably didn't have phones where we could be like, what's your number? Yeah. Like just kids.

Yeah. Oh my gosh. Crazy. Wild. Okay. So we're going to wrap this up because we could be here all day. Maybe we'll have a part to you at some point when Abby comes back on because this was fun to, like, relive so many moments.

But right now you guys can hear Amy embarrass herself in front of. country star Ashley McBride. Number seven. What's the max that you'll drive your speed you'll drive your car at on the interstate? Oh, 80 something. Probably. I mean, I've probably accidentally been at 90, and I'm like, oh, better stop that.

But never 90 on purpose? No, no, no, no, no. And why? Because you're afraid of getting pulled over, because you're afraid to going that fast. I'm both. Both. Yeah, I don't like going fast either. I hate it.

We're all the kind of old people like that. It stresses me out. Me too. And sometimes people, boom, doom, doom, doom, in and out. I was just reading this story about this guy doing 147. What? Get out of here. That's crazy.

They have confiscated a high-performance luxury car after the owner was caught speeding as he drove it. The man was not identified, but he was driving his Lamborghini Hurricon. I don't even know that's how you say that, but 147 miles per hour. I don't even think my car goes that fast. No chance.

Also, they take the car. That's why they'll take your car. I mean, isn't that why you buy a car like that? to go fast? Like, why else would you buy a Lambert? I'm sure it looks great and looks cool. A collector's item. But it also can go like 200 miles per hour. And I would think if you're going to do that, you have to go somewhere that allows

that. A race car track. Yes, and somewhere, not the highway. I would just be scared going 147 miles an hour. Like I'd lose control. Didn't Scott Walker? Is that his name? Paul Walker. Paul Walker. Yes, he was in a Porsche. And he went fat, and that's what happened. Went too fast, right? Lost control of the car?

The irony of that because he was in Fast and the Furious. I'm looking at this car, and I don't know if it's the ugliest car I've ever seen or the most awesome car I've ever seen. Oh, we'll pick one. Okay, awesome. Yes, I bet it's pretty cool. It's so odd looking that I go awesome, but you could convince me it was really ugly. It's over a $300,000 car, $310,000. Oh, wow.

He had just bought the car hours earlier. Oh, no. And then he got it taken away for going 147. That's terrible. I understand the urge. You want to go fast. You just got a fast car, but you can't do it right there. What a bonehead. Speaking of bonehead type moves, I did want to mention this because Ashley McBride was up here with

Amy. Yeah. And you were interviewing her for the IHart Country. Women of IHeart Country. Mm-hmm. What happened? And she was sitting up in the stool with her guitar and all the things, but she needed some water.

So she was trying to put her water bottle down. And I'm sitting behind my microphone doing the interview, but I'm like, oh, I need to help her with the water. So I get up to go over and do that, but I don't take my headphones out. And they get caught in my ears and jerk me back. And then they rip out. And it was very painful. And the whole thing.

It just looked very amateur. And it's like, hey, welcome to the Women by Heart Country. I'm your host. And I... It felt like a three stooges moment where I just was so embarrassed with my lack of ability to remember I had headphones in my ears. And what did you say to her? I just acted like it didn't happen and I sat down. And did she act like it happen?

Nope. Well, we just totally ignored it and went on with the interview and acted like I was a normal professional. It's the best bits of the week with Morgan number two. Ryan Hurd stopped by the show to talk about his new album, Pallago, that's out this weekend. He also performed one of the brand new songs from it and was so good. Now, before we get into this real quick, Abby, we've been on the show. You've been on the show for how long now? two years, little over two years.

And I've been on the show for about four years. Who's been your favorite performance you've got to experience so far on the show? Oh my gosh. I loved Caitlin Smith when she did the Coldplay. Yes, for cover. Yes. Oh my gosh. Like she played the piano and everything like that just sticks out to me so much.

That was amazing. Well, yeah. And I was like the one thing that you were like, oh my gosh, this moment. Yes. And it was probably one of the first artists that had a, even been in since I'd been here, I think. Like, it was at the beginning, probably, and I still think of that to this day, you know? Yeah. It was so pretty. And I'm just remembering it now. I love that. I love that they're so very different, because mine was when Jody Messina came on the show.

Oh my gosh, I wasn't here for that. Okay. So it must have been like three years ago. Okay. Which gosh, that seems like it just happened. So that's wild to me. Crazy. But she came in and she performed her big hits and she sounds just as good as she did when she first started. Really? So good. After she got done, I was like, how has it been, what, 20 years since she put out these songs? Because it did not sound like it. And that doesn't happen very often, right? People change. Your voice changes over time, over life. Jodi Messina? Not at all. She is still pure perfection. I bet that was. So she did like all of her hits? Like all, just like a medley type deal. I believe she did bye-bye. And I think she did heads Carolina, tails California. Yeah. I think I believe those were the two that she did. Oh my gosh. I would love to see her. Wow. There have been so many. I did really enjoy, gosh, who was that? I'm saying like I did really enjoy. And then I'm like, who was that? Well, there's so many. We did a 90s week. And Jody and Messina might have been part of that. She might have came in on it own.

I don't remember, but we did a 90s week where, or at least in 90s month. So every like throwback Thursday, we brought a 90s artist in. And that month was like the best ever because you were really, living every great song that you grew up on. And so that sticks out to me. And I'm trying to remember who all we brought in. And I believe that was also when we brought Joe Diffian before he passed. Oh, man.

And I was in the studio. Like, I don't cry at work, but I was just, I could not keep it in. I was like, oh my gosh, what is happening? It was just such an emotional, awesome moment. Yes. That he could do that, you know? Oh, my gosh.

And you got a big old fat hit on your hands too, by the way. Thank you. It's been a very cool year and I guess, I mean, this is my fourth single of country radio.

and I don't know, I think it's just a testament to sticking with it and really, I don't know, I love what I get to do every day, and it's fun to have this song with Marin, and then to have it lead to an album is a dream come true. Let's play a little clip of chasing after you with Mirren Morris. What's Palago about? What's that mean? So I wrote a song called Coast, which is track two on this album, and I needed a word that rhymed with Chicago. Oh. And I thought I made it up. and it turns out it's a word in another language. It's Italian or Latin and it means open sea and it also means overwhelming passion and I thought like that was such a cool umbrella for all these songs.

I was looking at the cover, which by the way, it's a great cover. Thank you. Quite a photogenic guy. You're very aesthetically pleasing. We try not to put the bad photos out. Listen, it made me not only want to listen to the music, but also like buy the clothes. It was basically an Instagram ad to what he was wearing too. So I'm going to ask this and I hope you don't think it's creepy, but Have you ever modeled? Not really, no. I mean, we'd take enough photos just to do this job, so taking more would be probably a lot.

But no, no modeling, really. But thank you for asking. That's very kind of you. Yes, I think he... Is it creepy? Is that creepy that I'm asking if you should be a model? I mean, I guess a way to say it less is like, have you ever been approached or has a company ever asked you?

Like, hey, we'd love to use you to model our clothes. Oh, we did have that once. We did, we had like a... We worked with, like, a modeling agency in New York, the two of us at one point, and it was fun. We got to do, like, some fashion show stuff, and then you sort of figured out, like, yeah, I like music a little bit more than this. It's just a little more interesting, and it's just, it's sort of like a world where we found out you have to kind of dive in 100% and be in, like, one of those cities that does that, and Nashville's not really one of them. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, thank you. That's the first time. If they practice, holy crap, look, you get real good. Honestly, we did right in there. So teach me the chords, man. This is my guitar player, Teddy, and he actually produced chasing after you with Aaron. And so it's his actually first big single as a producer, so it's been fun to, I don't know, celebrate all that stuff. And I'm just so proud to have an album, man. That's why I signed a record deal was to, like, get to put out albums.

And it's just such an amazing feeling to have it out and to be really proud of it. it. And, you know, we debuted chasing right here. And so to get to come back to celebrate the album coming out is really special. Today, Palago is out from Ryan Hurd. I got a couple questions because you are, at least you were, a big songwriter before you were an artist. And he's got many number ones that he just wrote that he did not perform. He's got him from Luke and Lady A and Blake Shelton. And so being the songwriter that you are, 10 of the 11 tracks, you wrote on the record. Keith Urban was talking to us and he said, I think his bass player wrote

Chasing after you? Yes. And so when you get that, was it written as a duet or was it a song that you thought we should do this together because it sounds like it could be a duet? I think it originally was not a duet and we sort of put it together as one and there's a version of it where there's a bridge

that was written that was like for that purpose and Marin sang the bridge and then we kind of scrapped it and went back to her or just decided she would sing the second verse. But it's just a, it's a really incredible story about, like, this, the way that songs work in Nashville. And just like, even an old song, if it's great, still has an opportunity to like, I mean, it's not that old, but it is a few years old. And it stuck around. And we were always really, we knew it was really special. And just the timing

was never right to have us both really promote it together. And so, um, but yeah, Jerry Flowers and Brinley Addington are the songwriters. And actually, there's another song I didn't write this album called What Are You Drinking? And it's track eight. And I'm credited, but I was sent the song and added some stuff to it. But another one, I don't have, I can't do that. I listen to the song and I think I can't do that any better than that. So I think that's when people really gravitate towards something that they don't have a vested interest in. It's like, that's just a great song and I need it. Teddy, you buy anything new lately? You got a song. I mean, you're making money yourself. You're over there quiet saying nothing, but you ching, ching, ching, ching, ching, ching.

Lab with Chris Stapleton came about and even that very iconic movie moment, you know, and 40-year-old Virgin where Steve Carell yells her name when he's getting waxed. Yeah, we asked about that if she knew that was going down. So definitely listen to this interview. So, so good.

Number three, the Friday morning conversation with Kelly Clarkson. Kelly, how are you? I'm so good, man. How you doing? You know, pretty good, working. What is your, like, normal workday like between being a mom and, you know, you're hosting the show and doing the voice? Like what is it, when do you wake up? When do you go to bed?

I wake up anywhere from 6 to 6.30 and then I get off work at like, get finished usually around 4. How taxing is doing a daily talk show? I really love it. I think mostly because I love everyone that I work with there and everyone's so kick-ass at their job that I don't have to worry about anything, you know? So, and I love talking. I mean, you get it.

It's easy to talk to people. So, and my hours aren't these hours. So like, I have to be on. So that's way easier. So no, and I get to do music, my bands there. It's just a, it's a different kind of talk show. So it's a, it's a really, like, fun, like awesome gig. I think the hardest part of it is I'm such an emotional person.

Like, I cry, like, every day because we have all these really cool people on the show. And just doing some amazing things. And I'm, you know, the news is hard sometimes. So it's, like, cool to, like, be surrounded by these really rad people that come on the show that are, like, really trying to make. humanity better. So it's that that that's the hard part because I'm just like, oh, I'm drained. But, um, but it's in a good way. Before I get to the Christmas record, I want to talk about you singing at the beginning of your show. Are there some days where you're like, I just don't want to

sing? Oh my God. Yes. What? Yeah. And those days, um, I just, you know, you put your, you just put your best foot forward. It's more, it's mostly like, I'll be honest with you, um, it was last week. I have never seen a Lance Morse at. in concert and she came to the bowl and me and my friends were like, oh my God, like live shows are back. Like we messed it up. We went. We had such a good time and we had this little box kind of to ourselves too.

So that was cool. But I sang harmony at the top of my lungs like my 13 year old self was living her best life and out in the cold air. And then the next day I was like, oh. And I had to come back to work and sing. And I was like, so we're going to do everything in Tony Braxton's keys. I was like, my voice is shot. And we kind of, it's really awesome because they learn that we get a ton of

Kellyoki sent in like requests from people. So I can at last minute sometimes have a switch and go, oh my God, can we do something where I can sound kind of wrecked and worn and it sounds fine. And then we kind of have to maneuver a little bit. But that happens every now and then. I mean, good gosh. I mean, do you always want to talk to people every day? No, no.

Sometimes I don't want to talk at all. Yeah, yeah. I know, I know. It's like silence. The Christmas album's out today when Christmas comes around. When did you record this? And did you have to do one of those setups where you make it look like Christmas in March? Well, it was actually very sweet. I recorded most, like half of it, I guess, at my TV studio, because that's for my musical director.

He has a whole studio set up. And he produced to have the album, which he's produced a ton of stuff for me before. And then I also, Jesse Shacken's house. I don't think he decorated at all. But I don't really have to like, I like such a child at heart when it comes up. I close my eyes and I'm in Wonderland. So I don't really have to think too hard at that. I think the thing that was hard for me with making this Christmas album was, man,

I hope people aren't wanting wrapped in red because I was in a different place when I put that album out. And so this album really does have it. There's an emotional kind of journey on it. So, you know, there's some like hard to listen to songs that are some really, raw messages. And then there's some classics that are like fun and uplifting. And it's, excuse me. And it's also, there's some sarcasm. And it's just kind of, I told my label, I was like, look, I was like, you want me to make a Christmas album, not particularly feeling jolly. So I was like, so, you know, it's a very honest album, even though it's a Christmas one. And that's why I called it

when Christmas comes around. Because when it does come around, we can be in very different places. And all those places are valid and okay. You know, obviously, I have. hope people relate to the more happier tones, but sometimes they don't. I want to play a little bit of glow, which has our buddy Chris Stapleton on it, and then I want to ask about this specifically. So here's some of glow. So when you go to- I have a duet with Chris Stapleton. I just wanted to remind you. That's what I was going to say. Like, you know, I know you have a song leave down with Brett,

and you have a song with Ariana when you're, you know, talking about duets. But for me, when I see the Stapleton duet, I'm like, man, that's super cool. Were you extremely pumped to get a yes from that? I have the funniest story that actually haven't told anyone yet. But I was so excited and so excited. He turned around so fast, too, after I asked him. And I honestly wasn't expecting him to say yes. I mean, I just feel like everybody asked him to sing. And I get really nervous about asking because I haven't turned down a lot, honestly,

it was singing with people. So I got really nervous. And I was so excited he said yes. And like I said, he turned the music around so quickly. And his voice is just magical. Oh, but I made this whole video, like outside my Jesse Shacken studio, because I was listening to, I got it. And I, like, literally sounded like a child on a roller coaster. And I made this video and I sent it to Chris.

And I was like just so happy. It just sounded so amazing. And we texted back like, you know, nonsense. And then I didn't hear after the video. I was like, oh, my God. He's like stage five cleaner. But I literally was. happy. I think, you know, there are few artists. I love a lot of artists, but I mean, there are

a few artists that really move me that make me like want to be a better singer and make me want to like do better and inspire me creatively. And he's one of them and has been since before everyone knew him and we were both at some event. And I think he was playing with the steel drivers. Yeah. Yes, yeah. He was playing with the steel drivers. And I, I was like, who the hell is this? And we were both at some event. And I've just since that moment, I remember sitting at the, the Grinnell Opry and in that seat going, oh, my God, this guy is like one of the most talented singers I've ever heard. And I'm just so excited, like one that he's had such an amazing career and still is. And then also that his amazing freaking voice is harmonizing

with mine. The album, when Christmas comes around, is out today. It's 15 tracks. It's all Christmas. but when is it okay to listen to Christmas music in your house? When do you start? I'm different. So I like Christmas in June, man. So I don't listen to it like nonstop or anything, but I will all of a sudden be like, I need to feel good.

I'm going to turn this mood around. And I will put on some Bing Crosby or some, you know, Alanis, or not Alanis, El Mariah. Sorry, I just went to her concert to Mariah Carey's Christmas, which is an amazing album. I'll do it just to like kind of turn my mood around. So I love Christmas music. But, I mean, if we're being honest, it's October, so we should probably get through Halloween and like Thanksgiving first.

But it's like, I guess I get it. They're releasing music a little earlier because by the time it comes out, you only have so long to maybe listen. So I don't know, maybe they're wanting people to pregame before the season starts. I don't know. Kelly Clarkson's on with us. I've got a few questions I've just always wanted to ask. So if you can bear with me for a second, because some of these are really old questions. Did you know before the 40-year-old virgin came out that still?

Steve Carell was going to yell your name at the chest waxing scene. No, I found out and I was actually going to see a movie at the movie theater, and that was a preview. And I wasn't paying attention to what was happening on the screen yet. And then when we were leaving, there were people stopping me, and they're like, did you hear, that was your name. He yelled your name. And I was like, what? And I didn't understand what was happening. And no matter what I'd do in my career, I could find the cure to cancer, okay?

And no one will remember anything as much as they'll remember my name. he yelled while getting waxed. It's like it's the one thing when I met Steve. I was like, you have set me up for failure, man. I could do nothing to top this. Kelly Clarkson's on with us. When you're in the shower, do you feel like you're a better singer in the shower much like we do?

100%. Yeah, so that's all that steam. It's amazing. I'm always seeing Aretha in the shower. It's amazing singing it. But also, funny enough, I wrote a few of the songs on this record in the shower. I write a lot of my songs in the shower. I don't know why. It's an inspiring place. Do without what you will.

And like what I do now is like I'll have, it makes the process harder for my team, but whatever. It's something I had to do for my life because I didn't want to be on my phone all the time. I do it all in emails.

If I'm at a concert, I like text wise, just sitting right, me and I'll be like, hey, can you post this for me? Or like, and then they'll send me like a bunch of things to like respond to that fans are sending in or whatever. But I just, that's like in an email that I can all get it done. I feel like I just, I don't want to be that checked in all the time. So I know that sucks because I'm supposed to do that kind of stuff. But to all my team, I'm sorry again. And if you are not dating and you do not know what dating is like right now, then really, please don't try to tell anybody that is dating right now what that's like because dating in this society in this world and this moment with technology is so different and so difficult it it is so hard to confirm that somebody is legit it is so hard unless like they have already verified things on their end and they're serious but you know news flash most people that are online are not serious

most people online are playing games they really are they're not on there to seriously date like i've been on dating apps. I tried. I went through that for three years. I never met a serious soul on there to save my life. And I actively dated. Right. So like I want to defend you right now and saying that like you are doing everything you should be to verify. Like if and if I told you this outside of the podcast, I've told you this outside of the show. If this man is a good person at the end of the day, he is not going to care how many hoops you try to jump him through to. To. confirm who he is. Right.

Because at the end of the day, he's a good person and he knows his truth. Uh-huh. Right? Yeah. And if at any point in time, he's mad at those hoops and jumping through, he's showing you a red flag. He's not serious. And he's likely lying.

Right. Because I know that if a man who's trying to confirm who I am is jumping through hoops to do that, I'm not going to be mad because I know that it's me. Right? Uh-huh. Exactly. So you are doing what. you should be doing.

Especially because things just don't seem to be adding up. And I'm trying to go with my gut. And I'm like, okay, this doesn't seem right. But it's all too happenstance that you would just get like this random text out of nowhere. And it's like, where do I go with it? Because the conversation's great. So I'm like even like he could be a friend, you know, like anything like that. But you still want even a friendship to be based off of truth.

Yeah. You should always look. It's like I said in the very beginning of this. you pushed it forward. It was like, hey, even if it was his clever idea of getting your attention, cool. But that should have lasted about five minutes. And then he should have been like, I know who you are. But instead, what are we? This is like two, three weeks. I think it's been a full week. I think because it was last Friday was when we did. Dang, it's only been a one week. Yeah, it's only been a week. It feels like it's been going home for like a month. That's why I'm like,

oh my gosh, I probably should calm down because it's really only been, it was like Thursday and Friday of last week. No, you don't need to calm down because you're not doing anything. You're not seeing here to be like, I want to marry this man. I need to confirm who he is.

I know. You're literally just saying, hey, if I am going to pursue anything, I need to know that this is legit. Yeah. Like at this point, I mean, fess up or don't. Yeah.

And it feels like dramatized because we're talking about it on air and everybody's freaking out. Yeah. But like the reality is, is like it's not that dramatic in real life. Uh-huh. You're just trying to feel.

figure out what's going on. You're trying to get to the bottom of a situation that is literally in your life. It really is. And I just think it's funny because I'm like, you would think this is actually made up. You would just think with everything going on, but it's not. Everybody saw it in real time, the FaceTime and everything. So it's like, it's real and it's just crazy. I'm like, I feel like this stuff happens all the time to me. Do you feel like now that the theory of mine of which he likely knows who you are and found your phone number on the internet is a very real reality? Or do you think he may know you from something else. Oh my God.

I don't know because, well, I don't want to say too much because, yeah, we'll have to reveal it on the big show later. I did have a conversation. And it didn't go so great. So, but we're still, because I'm going to find out for sure, we already have plans. So you got at least a 50% thing that is leaning you in a not good direction. Is it a good way of putting that? Yes. Yeah.

It just, I have one more pass at this and then I'm like, okay. Then you're, yeah. I just don't want to say too much because there's a lot to it. There's a lot. There's a lot of different angles to address, too, between how you got my number in the first place. Is that really the cheap number? So can you confirm if you are getting answers finally? Like, you know, I'm someone that I want to put everything into whatever I do. And I just feel a little distracted by this situation. So I feel like once this gets ironed out, then I'll be able to really focus on other things. But yeah, so it's just kind of for fun. But you know. You do have a second date with a different man from a dating map.

No. Just like, he did kind of slide into my DMs. But he has for a while. He has been. Yeah. Like we've been talking on there for a long time. He lives in Nashville. Uh-huh. Okay. The only thing I worry about is if they're, you know, a big fan of the show and just kind of just follow everybody and we'll respond or reply to everybody and see who answers, you know. I see that. Listen, like, when I was dating before my boyfriend, I never told anybody what I did maybe until the second, third date. Like, I very, like, lightly. And it's not even that dating somebody who's a fan of the show is bad. It's dating somebody who is a massive fan of the show and already knows everything about you. Right. And you're sitting there on a first date knowing nothing about this other person. person and they know everything about you.

Uh-huh. Right? So that's very hard for somebody to get to know you. Yeah. And so I understand 100% that concern. That makes sense. Yeah, it is very strange when you're like, well, I don't, just you talk the whole time because you know everything about me, you know.

On your dating app, do you have that you work for the show? Uh-uh. And I'm like you, I don't bring it up ever the first date. Like I just say, and I keep it very vague, like radio and podcasting, you know, I answer the phones and I help find news stories. So like, and that's what I did with the firefighter, too. And he never asked. I didn't push it.

I'm not going to be like, oh, have you heard this show? You know, I thought he would, because I brought it up several times when he asked me what I do. You would think he would want details on the person that he's talking to. Yeah. Like, where can I listen and all that kinds of stuff? And that would be okay. Like if they don't know anything and they're like, hey, I want to listen. I want to check it out.

Cool. That's not a red flag. It's only a red flag when they know everything about you and you're sitting there and you don't know that they know everything about you. Mm-hmm. Right. Right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And sometimes I'm like, are they just trying to get to know me so they can get to to meet somebody on the show or something? You know, like, I don't know. You just never, you question people's intentions. The authenticity of that person or the genuine. I don't think there's an adjective for genuine. Genuineness. Genuity. We know what I got words. Oh my gosh. Don't like me. No, I don't know. But yes. And that's you, 100% should be. And to anybody who is telling you. to not be like this, I tell them to politely buzz off genuinely because you should always be protective of your heart and you should always be protective of yourself because nobody else is

going to do that for you. And at the end of the day, the right person, I can testify to this, my boyfriend, the right person who I protected myself to the very end, continued to find a way to fight through those walls because he wanted to be with me. Oh my gosh. See, I love that. Yeah. And that is how it should be. For both ways, I did the same thing with him. so that's out there and that's possible so do not stop fighting for yourself and do not stop protecting yourself you always should I know and that's like what I wanted to say like you just you don't know like what is true because you've been hurt in the past by other people that have lied to you or have done something like this and say one thing and it's not true so that's why I'm just like

I have to be cautious I'm not saying I'm trying to generalize that that everybody does that but you also have to like be cautious yes you have to be cautious and matter what. Yes. It doesn't matter if the one person is not like that. Right. Because that one person is not going to care that you're cautious and protective of your heart. Ever. It shouldn't be. That's a red flag. You know, just thinking about, like, how some of these artists go from nobody's to somebody's, like Luke Combs, for perfect example, you know, he was on Vines, and Vines blew him up.

And I figured, you know, I'm 32 years old. I don't know if I still have a shot, but we'll see if TikTok works. Here you are. It's got me here. So you sing in an empty car wash? Is that after everybody's gone? Normally, I do it before I open. Got it.

But sometimes when we're slow, I like to just go out there and see what I can do. And so you do it because it sounds good, like the acoustics of that car wash? Yeah, you can't beat it.
