Starting point is 00:01:36 It's the best bits of the week with Morgan number two. What is up, y'all? Welcome. I am Morgan. As you just heard in the little jingle, this is the best bits of the week. And I am so excited to bring on Abby. What is up, girl?
Starting point is 00:01:50 What's up? It's the weekend. I'm excited. I know. Now, we're recording this right before the weekend Hicks, and I always get so excited. So I'm like, my brain is fried. I know.
Starting point is 00:01:59 By the end of the week, yes. Yes. So we're going to be winging it today. A lot of random conversations. They may connect to the bits. They may not. You cool with that? I love it.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Yeah. All right. That's what we're going to do. If you haven't listened to this podcast before, what I normally do is I break down and share seven big segments from the show this week. And boy, do I have a lot to share because there's a lot of random things happen and you're going to love all of it. But in the middle of that, I tend to talk a lot to my people on the show.
Starting point is 00:02:25 We talk about crazy things and life updates. So, and that's exactly what Abby and I are about to do. We're going to get started, okay? Let's do it. Woo. Coming in hot at number seven, there was a huge debate in the studio. Bobby got a gift from Alan Jackson, and on that gift was written something. And Bobby's not quite sure how to interpret it.
Starting point is 00:02:45 So, you know, the studio, of course, had to debate what it meant. And I'm just going to throw this out there that I think Alan Jackson is like a king, and he meant no wrong by it. That's what I think. That's my opinion. And I'm sticking to it, for now at least, unless Alan comes back and says, hey, I met something else, but I don't think that's true. You guys can hear it now and decide for yourself.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Number seven. I'm going to tell you guys, I got a guitar sent up to me by Alan Jackson. And on it, he wrote three words, keep it country. Oh. So I wonder, is, and spend some time thinking about this, Amy, is Alan Jackson saying, hey, keep a country. Like, you're not doing it. You're not doing a good job of keeping a country. Keep a country.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Or is he doing like, hey, keep a country like you've been doing it. Like you've been keeping it. Keep it country. Yeah. How would you interpret that? I lean towards keep it country. Like positive. The positive. Like keep it country.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Like you already are, you already are having it country. Keep it country. Exactly. Okay. Keep doing what you're doing. Okay. Eddie. I mean, I'm trying to Google.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Is there a song called Keep It Country by Alan Jackson? He said, keep it wrote was keep it country. Alan Jack. Bones, I think he's telling you, stop doing what you're doing. Keep it country. But what am I doing? I don't know. I am a country music historian.
Starting point is 00:04:08 I get it. Maybe he's just encouraging you. Hey, buddy. Country music could be going in a weird direction. Keep it country. Like Santa Claus? I'm watching. Always.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Alan's always watching you. Okay. So you think it's... So that would be a little insulting? Scoo of Steve, what do you think about this? You see the guitar that's in my office? Yeah, I think he's just being like kind of like when you say, like, yo, keep it real.
Starting point is 00:04:30 It's just a phrase. Nothing meant to it at all. Just keep it real. Keep it country. Lunchbox? Man, I feel like he's saying, look, country's going in a bad direction and you are, you are steering the ship because you have the biggest platform in country music and he needs you to steer that ship back towards what real country is.
Starting point is 00:04:48 So maybe it's not an insult then. Maybe it's like, hey, man, can keep a country. Yeah. Yeah, like don't let it get too far off brand. Like we're getting off brand and we need to get back to country. Well, now we have a few. few different. We have Amy who go, hey, keep a country. We have Eddie who's like, Keep it country. Yes. We have lunchbox. She's like, hey, keep a country.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Different tones in all those. Yeah, it's three words, but he could say so many things in three words. Dang. Does he think the ship's going in the wrong direction? So what did he send the guitar for? I don't know. Just to be nice. A little hint saying, hey, man, in 2020, we need to get back on the right direction. But why did he send the guitar? I didn't ask for it. I'm happy to have it. He said it quite a while. ago when he's in the show. Yeah. It was like a gift.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Just like, hey, thanks for having me on. Oh, that was pretty much it. Like a happy, would you say it was a happiness gift? It seemed like a happiness gift. Like, keep it country. Okay. Well, hey, Mr. Jackson? I'm gonna keep on.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I'm gonna keep on keeping it country. There you go. There you go. Yeah. That would have been better. But that's what I would, that's the spiral my brain went down this morning. Does Alan Jackson hate me? Did he send me a guitar just to insult me?
Starting point is 00:05:53 It's the best bits of the week. With Morgan number two. Now at McDonald's get an iced coffee for $199 all day. Wait, $1.99? Really? All day, and for any size. Any size? What I just say? That McDonald's has any size iced coffee for $199 all day.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Yes, I think I was pretty clear. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe you could use some coffee. I do have a dollar. A $0.99! Price and participation may vary cannot be combined with any other offer. Bada, blah, blah, blah. Bye, everyone, it's Cal Penn.
Starting point is 00:06:31 I'm the host of Earsay, the Audible and I Heart Audio Book Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook Project Hail Mary, massive sci-fi adventure about survival and science, and what happens when you wake up alone very far from Earth? I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections and it's like, okay, yo, yeah, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no, at this point, it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't
Starting point is 00:07:12 go through it. But there's places in this book that deeply emotionally affected me and I left it on the mic. That's great. Because it served the story. People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too. Listen to your say. The. Audible and IHeart Audio Book Club on the IHeart Radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's talk about modern home shopping. It's sort of become a fun side hobby, right? Scrolling listings at night, dreaming about kitchens you've never seen, or backyards you haven't even stepped foot in, all from the comforts of pretty much anywhere. Redfin knows a lot of people like you want to own, but are stuck in this browsing mode loop. That's where Redfin flips the script.
Starting point is 00:07:55 With listings that update within minutes and tours you can book right from the Redfin app, you can see your dream home the moment it appears. Now, liking a listing is easy, but actually landing it, that's where Redfin comes in. Redfin has over 2,200 agents with local expertise. And Redfin agents close twice as many deals as other agents. That means they want to help you win, not just Window Shop. Redfin is built to help you go from just looking to wait. this could actually be home.
Starting point is 00:08:26 So become the newest neighbor on the block. Visit redfin.com to start finding and start owning. That's redfin.com. This was a funny one. I mean, listen, Amy and I are sick of being pulled in when the guys want us to rank them on the show for their looks and put them in an order.
Starting point is 00:08:44 So this time what happened is the guys ranked their own looks. Now, that was a hoot in itself. So listen to all of them share their number that they give themselves from one to ten and then of course everybody debates why they're not actually that number you know it's a whole thing with the guys in our studio i do feel like abby most of the time we we deal with some guy locker room talk yes in and off the show just before we got on to this podcast all of them
Starting point is 00:09:11 were sitting in this office while abby and i are sitting here trying to do this podcast they come in and the sore losers can not get into their instagram account so we had like 50 phones on the table and everybody's trying to figure out what is going on. That was hilarious. Like they're all coming in. Yes. And you're like, okay, well, what is this? And it's just your number? Like, nothing is making sense. They didn't know anything. I know. And it's funny because listeners are always like, share some behind the scenes of what happens. I'm like, you know what happens behind the scenes a lot? I'm providing technical support. And I can't show you behind the scenes because I'm giving technical support. You really are technical support. It's so bad. And they're all like it, too. They're like,
Starting point is 00:09:50 how do we get into our Instagram? I'm like, how do you guys not know how to get into your podcast Instagram at this point. Yeah, he was like, we haven't logged in in like three years. This is automatic. I'm like, oh my gosh. So pro tip, if you ever log into anything, save the password to your phone, but make sure you have two-factor authentication on like Abby has learned. Yes, learned that. Very important. But that's totally not what we're talking about, because what I want to do here, since we don't really, you know, want to talk about ranking ourselves. I'm not, I'm not going to do that. And I don't want you to do that. So I just want to hear some life updates. Do you have anything going on in your life that you need to fill me in on or that you just want to share?
Starting point is 00:10:28 I really don't. I mean, I had COVID right after Christmas and like for the past two years I've been super careful. Like I've been kind of scared to go out just because I didn't want to get it and have to miss work and everything. And I'm like, now I have the antibodies so I'm ready to go. I know. I told you the other day. I was like, if you want to go out, let me know. You're like, hey, let me go. Let me take me out to every place I can possibly go. I know. It's crazy too because like they can't tell us either how long we. have those antibodies for. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:54 But I still feel like I got COVID. I think it was in August is when I had mine. I still feel like I think I still have my antibodies, but that I'm not sure. I know. Yeah. I mean, well, let's be honest. If I get COVID quickly again, I'll be mad. I'd be so mad.
Starting point is 00:11:08 Exactly. Yeah. So it was only like four months ago. I know, but people are getting it like twice in the same year. They are. It's wild. I think you maybe have like a solid month or three months. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Where you are possibly sure. So how are you feeling? Did you lose any smell, taste anything crazy? No, I did not. And that's what's wild. It was like the first two days were bad. Like I did not feel. I was so tired. Like I had never been that tired. It just like hit me. And then it was just kind of like a cold and it really wasn't bad. It's weird. So when you were tired, we just kind of sleep in. You weren't doing much. No. Yeah. I was just sitting like watching a movie. And even when I tried to walk, I was like it was just unlike anything. It was very weird. I was like something. up something's not right yeah so is that when you decided to go get tested you're like okay i don't feel right yeah and because my aunt and uncle were staying with us over christmas and my uncle had a kidney transplant that my aunt donated to him and so they're like very you know like i had to be super careful and i had to text my whole family because i had just seen them and i was like oh my gosh if anybody gets this i'm going to feel so bad did anybody ended up no no one got oh my gosh i was that's what i was worried about the most, like more than myself.
Starting point is 00:12:22 So I was like, I'm fine. Like, I feel fine. But I don't want anybody else to get it, especially because I live alone in Nashville, you know, so if I get it here, it's okay because I can quarantine by myself. Yes. But I get it, you know, by my family. No, and there's so many branches of this I want to talk about. One part of this is that I don't think we talk about enough how crappy it is to get COVID and how you feel about getting COVID.
Starting point is 00:12:46 It's the first time in my life. Like, when I got it, you just feel crappy about yourself. because you got sick. Yes. And you're like, and people give you a hard time about it, right? Like across the board. And you're like, guys, why are we doing this? Since when was getting sick and giving somebody a hard time for being sick a thing.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Right. And it is now. With COVID it is. Like people, their attitudes like change towards you. Like you're all of a sudden like, ew, get away from me. Yeah. When like I, you know, and I think at the beginning of the pandemic, like there was this period of time where everybody's like, I don't know what this means, you know, what is this
Starting point is 00:13:23 going to do that there was that. But we're two and a half years in now, like at this point if you're still giving people a hard time for getting COVID, like, and it's unfortunate, right? Because if you're around it, you have to quarantine and all of these things, like, it's super unfortunate. But can we please just stop giving people a hard time for getting sick? I know. We're in a middle of a pandemic. Like, that's the reality of this situation. Right. So especially something like Omnacron, the variant that's happening. And I think I said that right. Omicron?
Starting point is 00:13:53 Omicron. Wait, now I'm like, Amicron. I don't know. Words are hard for me. I'm not sure. I think you added another letter. Maybe. I probably did.
Starting point is 00:14:03 That's what we get what you mean. Yes. But like this one's supposed to be like the most like easiest to catch or whatever and like masks aren't really working with it. I'm just like guys, we can't keep like putting people down for getting it. But I don't know how many people I've talked to. You felt this way. felt this way. I know a lot of my friends have felt that way that every time they got it,
Starting point is 00:14:21 it was like they were treated like they were the worst person on earth. Yes. And you're like, I didn't do anything. Like I wasn't trying to get this. I'm not trying to do this to other people. Exactly. Like I was like, my, I remember saying that to my mom, I was like, they hate me. Like they are going to hate me when I text in this. I tell them. And the anxiety of texting them. Yes. And telling them that, oh my gosh, because you don't want to, I feel bad that, oh, now they're going to be on high alert or maybe they can't do something because they feel like they have to quarantine or you know you know like stay away for a while or wear a mask all because of me and I'm like but I can't help it I didn't know I had it yes there's the there's the anxiety of finding out you have it the anxiety
Starting point is 00:15:02 of texting people that you have it and then the anxiety of how people are going to treat you afterwards there's like a triple whammy of anxiety that happens when you get COVID let alone the fact that you don't feel good I know yes so I that that's That's one thing. So I am I am all for stopping, shaming people at this point because we are way too far into this pandemic to be doing that to people. We're all just trying to get through and trying to figure this out and manage together on the same level. But really. I know. But the other side I want to hear, you mentioned that your uncle had a kidney transplant from your aunt. Yes. So what happened? And is he doing okay? Yeah. So he, oh man, it's been like five years. No,
Starting point is 00:15:45 he's been on dialysis for probably eight, I would say, and he had to go like every other day at like four in the morning for like four hours. And it was, so it was an autoimmune disease. It's called Good Pasture Syndrome, which I hadn't even heard of. And it's something that attacks your kidneys and lungs, like the cells in them. And so it just, it was kidney failure is what it caused. And luckily it didn't really damage his lungs. And he was fighting that for how many years? It was like eight years that he was on dialysis. And I mean, that dialysis, is no fun at all. And I just, I really feel for people that have to do that every day because it's like I said, four hours. Yeah, it's very demanding of your time. Yeah. And you're not feeling well.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Right. You're just hooked up to a machine for that long. And so he was doing that. And my mom actually tried to get tested to see if she was a match, but she had like something in her kidney that she didn't like qualify to be able to donate it. And then my, his sister was a match. And she is in her like 70s and she was the one that donated the kidney. Okay, so connect these dots for me real quick. So this uncle is your mom's brother. Yes. And the other aunt is their sister. Uh-huh. Yeah. Yep. So it's like, yes. So they are all all the same genes. So hopefully somebody in that family would have before that happened anyway. But. And then I was over here like, oh my gosh, should I get tested? My mom's like, no, you're too young. You know, she was like, no, let us try first.
Starting point is 00:17:10 So your aunt is 70 years old and got that? Or was she like 65 at the time? No, she was, like, because this only happened two years ago. Like they just had their like second anniversary, like kidney anniversary or whatever it was. So, yeah. Wow. And she's doing great. They're doing great now. Is your uncle doing better now? No, like having to be in all the time and stuff. Oh my gosh. He is like, you can just tell his spirits are so much better because he just like wasn't in a good place. I mean, it really keeps you from doing a lot of things. He couldn't work, you know, because he was going to dialysis. He didn't have much energy. And now he's just like a different person. It's so exciting.
Starting point is 00:17:45 I love the amazing. I know. I know. I was like, we got to talk about that. Yeah, they're the best. I love them. So, yeah. Well, any, um, you shared on the show this week, too, when you were out at a bar and a
Starting point is 00:17:56 dude paid his, uh, server a hundred bucks to take your number. Like, what in the world? Craziness. Like, I could not believe. That's never happened to me, by the way. Wait, why could you not believe it? Because somebody did that or because it happened to you? Well, me and that someone would pay $100.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I mean, we're at a sports bar where everything's casual. It's really not a big deal to go to someone's table real quick and just be like, hey, you know, if you're the same team, like if you saw someone from K's date, you'd probably, you know, be like, yeah, cool, hey, go cats. Yeah, I wasn't going to say it. I was letting you say it. Hey, Abby, can you say it for me? It's just in case.
Starting point is 00:18:32 No. I was going to say Eam, whatever it is. Ema? You did it. You did. It came out of Abby's Jayhawk mouth. I did not say it. Bleep that out.
Starting point is 00:18:43 No. But like, so like a sports bar, I think is more casual. I don't think it's that weird. Like if he really wanted to give me, there's a lot of weirdness to it, for one thing. Because to start off, he lied and said his friend's interested to get me to come over. And there was no friend that was trying to do anything. He was the one the whole time. So that was weird.
Starting point is 00:19:01 But just the fact that you would like pay $100. Yeah. Well, I wonder too if he was kind of trying to show off his money. Like maybe to show you like, hey, I got a lot of money. Like that's a reason to hang out with me. Maybe he wanted you to be a sugar. Baby. Abby, you could have been a sugar baby.
Starting point is 00:19:16 I still have his number. I'm kidding. Did you like save or do you just have like the napkin or whatever it was written on? Yeah, he wrote it on like the check. It's like the server, like the guest check. Oh, yeah. But the other thing is my friend that was with me was like if he really wanted to impress you, why didn't he like pick up your tab?
Starting point is 00:19:36 Yeah. It was only $30. So he would have walked away with a $30 tab and said it. Or just been like when he saw you on the way to the bathroom and this whole situation happened, been like, hey, let's grab a job. drink. Yes. And you can be like yes or no and it could have died right there. Yeah. Or continued on, whatever. But I basically made it die throughout the game because I'm not even kidding the whole game. He was calling me over by my name. Yeah. From across the way. He was like,
Starting point is 00:19:57 I would come back. Come here. Come here again. And I was like, sorry, I'm watching the game. Like, I'm really watching. Well, and I did that there's like this fine line too of like being very determined and being very adamant, but also like not being overbearing. There is that very fine line, right? And we want men who know what they want. But like, if you're getting vibes that somebody doesn't want it, you should back off. Exactly. So that's the thing. Like, I appreciate the boldness.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Like, I'm all about it. Like, you know, like shoot your shot. If you're, if you see someone you like and or you want to talk to them, like, I say go for it. But also, yes, like pick up on what they're doing. And I was obviously, if I was interested or something, I would have gone back over when he called me like at a commercial or something. but I didn't. He's like, I'm not feeling these vibes. Yeah, I feel like I kind of made it clear.
Starting point is 00:20:47 So, yeah, you kind of have to read the room, I guess. And, yeah, he didn't know. And he was also, like, 51, right? Yeah, he was in his 50s. Okay, so what would be, like, your age limit? What would you not go past? Because you're 31. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Yes. Is that okay to say? Yeah, yeah. Okay. I'm the same. I feel like I'm so old compared to you. You are not. You're literally, like, maybe two and a half years older.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Okay. It's just the three and the two. Yes. It's fine. Yeah. But, okay, so he's 51. What would be your, like, like, cap on age? I usually like kind of older guys.
Starting point is 00:21:22 I mean, well, now I'm, like, 31, so I was going to say, like, 38, which isn't much older than me because it's only seven years. That's still an age difference. Yeah. So, like, your cap would be 37 or it would start at 37. Let's say 38, 39. Not above 40. 40s.
Starting point is 00:21:35 40s. Yes. But you can. In your 30s. Yeah. Okay. If you're in your 30s, we're good. So if you're in your 30s and you,
Starting point is 00:21:42 are attractive and you don't be creepy, you can hit up Abby. But don't be creepy because I'll come after you. Abby seen it. Yeah, I have. I'm very protective of my friends. I know. I saw that side. I like it though. I just don't. I don't like people getting hurt. I don't. It makes me very angry and I don't like when people don't respect boundaries. Yes. I'm like, listen, we're all human. I think you can pick up on the majority of these cues. Yeah. On some level. We all need a friend that does that though. It doesn't let that you know puts us in our place and it's like okay Abby you need to step back and look at this and yeah it's the it's the challenger side of my personality yes but then then I have the two in there that's like why are you bothering them yeah it's a complicated reality that happens
Starting point is 00:22:28 in my brain often I'm sure it does now and you're talking about too on like restaurants and phone numbers so funny because I worked at Buffalo Wild Wings back in which job for like four and a half years. It was my first job when I was 16. I went from host to takeout to expo to server like I moved up the chain at this place. New Market Square, Buffalo Wildwing, shout out. Works there like pretty much my whole like, I guess, early adulthood. Is early teenage years? Or late teenage years, early adulthood? I don't know. I felt like I was an adult at that point. I was still living with my parents, but yeah, whatever. I had, after that job, after those four and a half years, I had a bag.
Starting point is 00:23:13 I think I tossed it at this point, like, when I was in college, but I had a bag of napkins, receipts, things that people left their numbers on when I would, like, serve them. And then afterwards, are you telling you? No. What? Oh, my gosh, Abby, like, the audacity of so many people. And I'm like, I've, no, there would be some because it was Buffalo Wildweggs and because we often showed the UFC fights and there was games. People would sit in there for several hours.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Like, they're in, and it's groups of guys. Like, if you're young, listen, you're young, you want to have fun, you want to meet people, go be a server at a freaking game bar. Like, any bar that shows games all the times, there are always dudes going in there. And guys, sometimes there's groups of women. I saw it all. I saw all of it, okay? But, yeah, Abby, there's so many. I think I did finally throw it away in college, but. So did any of them work or they're just like, what are you thinking? Oh, most of them would like leave really big tips and they leave their number. I'm like, hey, I can deal with that.
Starting point is 00:24:14 And I never faulted them for it. I'm like, you know what? You can shoot your shot. There were some of them that I went on a date with at that point in my life. Well, there you go. I never dated any, like a really long term dated anybody from that. But I did go on a date, I think with two or three of them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Okay. So it works. It can work if like the chemistry is right. you know you're both vibing. Oh my gosh. This reminded me. Oh, my God. What?
Starting point is 00:24:39 So my friend from Kansas was in town and we went to eat like in East Nashville, which I don't really go too much. So I kind of felt like I was like in a different city. I just felt like, oh, I'm in a whole new area. Yes. And you know how when you go out of town, you're kind of like, oh, no one knows me. So I can just, what, like you're more. Free spirit.
Starting point is 00:24:56 Yes, exactly. So I was there. And our server was like so cute, so cute. And she wrote my number down and left it. And she was just like, if you're single. Like, text me, put it on my ticket. I never heard from him. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:25:10 I don't ever do that. But I was like, that reminded me that I did that. This was like last year, too. You should totally shoot your shot. If you're like feeling that vibe and they're cute or whatever, shoot the shot. Because like I said, I did go out on dates with three of them. Uh-huh. There might even be more, but those are, I can remember like three over the course of
Starting point is 00:25:28 of these like four and a half years. Yeah. And they were all cool. I mean, like, you know, nothing ever transpired. but I went on a date. Yes. You never know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:38 Oh, actually, I left my Instagram because then he could like gauge because sometimes it's hard the number thing. You kind of want to know a little bit more about them because they're a complete stranger. True. Pro tip. Leave both. Oh, okay. Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:49 There you go. Leave the Instagram so they can check you out. Yeah. And then leave the phone number so they can reach out. Uh-huh. Or if they didn't know what you looked like, you like remind them because if you're just getting all these tickets, you could be like, oh, shoot, I don't know which girl it was at my table.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Yeah. Yeah. What if like at some point along the line? But I will tell you as a server, most of the time you pick it up pretty quickly after they leave. And then you like... And you see it. You're like, oh. You look at it.
Starting point is 00:26:10 You put it in your thing and then whatever. Okay. I mean, I might somewhere in a closet back home still have this whole bag. That is so funny. I can't live you got that many. I'm just really proud of you for putting yourself out there with a server. Well, it's because my friend, yeah, she talked me into it. I think you should do it more.
Starting point is 00:26:27 Maybe I should. I'm telling you, there's you, another way of meeting guys is cute, cute bars or cute bars. cute guys at sports bars. Yes, yeah. Granted. Most of the time they're very into sports, so you might not ever get to see them leave the bar. That's true.
Starting point is 00:26:41 They just go to the bar all the time. Yeah, they're always there. And most of the guys that would always, they ended up being regulars. I had a lot of regulars because Tuesday and Thursdays were wing nights. You had games on Saturday and NFL on Sunday. I mean, they were regulars to a point. And I was like, okay.
Starting point is 00:26:56 I never went out with a regular because I never wanted to deal with that. Oh, I know. Yeah. And there are probably some that. you're like, oh, here he is again. Hey. And they were always nice. I never, in that time, I never experienced any creepy guys.
Starting point is 00:27:12 I think there might have been a few times where I made like some of the cooks walk me out because I'm like, I'm not sure what's going to happen. But like, nothing bad ever really happened. That's good to hear. Maybe some of them got a little too drunk and a little too like NSFW. But that's not anything you're not used to handling, especially on UFC fight nights. Oh my gosh. I was a server at Red Robin. Red Robin. That was the most stressful job of my life.
Starting point is 00:27:35 How long did you serve? Just a summer. Okay. Like when I was home for college. Yeah. It was because, I mean, they have the unlimited fries, right? And then everybody wants their own dipping sauces. And then like the burgers are so complicated. So they're like, you know, I don't want this on it and I want that. You have to sing for birthdays. You bring a balloon out and then you have to gather everybody, like your coworkers to come sing with you. And they're like, important question. Did you go and work at Red Robin because you wanted to sing. No, no, no, no. I think it's because, like, my aunt knew the manager, and I didn't really have serving experience, and so they gave me a job there. But no, I did not
Starting point is 00:28:13 to sing, and that was my least favorite part was to go sing happy birthday. I dreaded that. Because it was just, no one would ever come with me, you know, like you were just like singing by yourself. Sometimes. It's like the clap thing, like the happy, happy birthday from all of us, like that one. And you just be standing there over somebody doing it yourself. Yeah, sometimes. I mean, I tried not to because that's not very. fun for like a kid, it was just one person. But you bring a balloon and, yeah, it was just, I, oh, it was so stressful. So after what, like three months, you quit work in there? Yeah, just because I had to go back to school. But I was like, it was, I just remember all the time,
Starting point is 00:28:44 like, sometimes I would go in the bathroom and be like, Abby, you're okay. Because I just, it was like a lot. It's a lot in a fast-paced environment where it's like, one table's leaving. So you have to get to go boxes and they're check. And then this, they want refills. And then they're ready to order. and you're like all these things, it's like constantly like nonstop and you want to get a good tip. So yeah. It definitely is for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment for sure. If you like just kind of more like very strategic ways of working, serving may not be for you. Right.
Starting point is 00:29:17 That's why, but I'm yeah, very aware now that I'm like, if you're a good server, like it's hard and you deserve a good tip, you know. Yeah, but it is like I do feel like everybody should work in that industry at some point in their life. Yes. Because it is. It's very eye-opening, but it's also like you can make so much good money if you become really good at what you're doing. Like, I made bomb money as a server when I was 16, 17 years old. And I'm like, what? Yes, I think that's why.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Because you get the cash and you have it. Yep. And you just are like, okay, let's go. You don't have to wait for a paycheck. It's like, you got it right there. Would you ever eat at Red Robin after and do you still eat Red Robin now? I refuse to go in Red Robin. Oh, gosh.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Like I will not go in there. Like, when I drive by it, like, I want to cry. What? Like, I'm not even kidding. But I used to eat, yeah, I would eat, because you get like 50% off. So I would eat before or take it. But you won't eat there now. No, I will not.
Starting point is 00:30:08 I'm not going to do it. I can't. Dang. Like, I seriously have, like, PTSD. Because of the bad experience or because you saw things? Just the bad experience. Just it being way too stressful. And I didn't get good tips.
Starting point is 00:30:21 A lot of people would, like, leave and not tip me. And I, I'm like a perfectionist. And I'm like, I know I did good. Yeah. Like, I know I was very aware. of all of my tables. It's not like I left for 20 minutes. Like you did something wrong. Yeah. Like, so I was like, oh my gosh. I know I did great. And then they'd leave like three dollars. You know, and I'm just like, oh my, I can't. What? I, three dollars. That's like $12 an hour.
Starting point is 00:30:44 If you have four tables. Like it's just, yeah. Oh, God. Well, so it's not because it's bad. Red Robin still has a good decent, uh, yes, Red Robin's fine. Situation. It's just for you. The setting is just, I'm more, I need more of like a fancy. like a steak restaurant more slow-paced and just like relaxed fair that's like people hang out for a while yes sit big yeah yeah that's what i like oh man okay have you watched anything recently that you love i'll tell you i've a mini movie series that people should definitely check out i'm i love ryan reynolds pretty much anything he does i love it um but hitman's bodyguard and hitman bodyguard's wife two great movies oh they're good has ryan reynolds and uh samuel l jackson
Starting point is 00:31:29 in them. I think that's who it. I need to make sure before I say that. Um, hitman's bodyguard. Um, yeah, Samuel L. Jackson. That's right. Because then in, and the second one, though, Morgan Freeman's in it, too. Big actors, but like, I laugh all the time. So if you, it's on, the second one's on HBO Max. I think the other one might be available to rent. So good. Really? Like, oddly good. It's not one you'd be like, oh my gosh, like, let's watch it. But it's good. It's really good. So if you want to action, comedy kind of romance funny. Yes. It can be a little like,
Starting point is 00:32:01 what's the word when something's like NSW but like not? Yeah, I know what you're saying. Like vulgar kind of. Sometimes vulgar. Yeah. Like Salma, I don't know if I'm saying her name right. Selma Hayek.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Selma Hayek. Yes. The actress. I just say it all at one. Like Selma Hayek. Yes. She's in it and she's hilarious, but she gets vulgar at some points. So I wouldn't watch it with kids,
Starting point is 00:32:25 but it's great. Like you want to go to action, comedy movie, watch that. Well, you're going to have to say all yours because you know me. I don't really watch much. I know. What is my problem? You kill me.
Starting point is 00:32:35 I don't even watch Yellowstone. I haven't even seen it. I don't watch Yellowstone either. Really? Okay, I don't feel as bad because I feel very out of the loop. Everybody's always talking about it. And I'm like, I don't know. I'm not very good about getting on things that everybody else watches.
Starting point is 00:32:48 I just kind of go with whatever Netflix suggests to me because I'm like, Netflix knows me better than anybody at this point. I'm just going to watch what they tell me to watch. Yeah. That's a good way to do it. Yeah, well, because most of the time people love, like, action or, like, gory things or, like, scary things, thrillers. And most of that I can't watch. Like, I have a, I have a whole list on my Netflix page, the little my list that you can add to of all these kind of dark thriller type things that I hope to watch one day.
Starting point is 00:33:16 But I can only watch them every couple months. Yeah. So it, like, takes me a long time to knock them out. But you give me, like, a romantic comedy or just like a funny action movie. I can watch eight of them in a day. but like thriller or like dark or you know a little bit scary or whatever I can't either is it because you live alone or like you have to live with someone or be watching it with someone no I just like it brings down my whole mood okay yeah I'm trying to currently watch since I'm obsessed with Marvel I'm
Starting point is 00:33:47 trying to watch daredevil on Netflix and I do enjoy it but it's dark and so I can only watch a few episodes when normally as people know I am a hardcore binger I could I could have finished it by now if it was like a normal show. But because it's dark, I can't. I know what you mean. Yeah. Like, I mean, I was watching you when I was watching that. And it's like you have to take a break.
Starting point is 00:34:06 Otherwise, like your mind goes into a dark place. Yeah, you're like, oh, I can only take so much. Like, three people have been killed. Like, I need to stop. This is a lot of killing or violence. Like, I'm going to have nightmares. I don't even know why. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:19 So I get it. You got to like change. But I don't. Nothing. Nothing. Not a movie, not a TV show? No, I mean, I watched home alone like 20 times when I was home. I don't watch it.
Starting point is 00:34:28 That does not help us here. New things. All right. That's fine. You have any suggestions. I gave, hey, I just gave you a mini movie series to watch.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Yes, I'm going to watch that. That I think everybody will enjoy. Yeah. Any other? It's children. That you watch? Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:34:42 I've been watching, like I said, I've been watching Daredevil, the Harry Potter reunion. I did watch. I wanted to watch that. Was it good? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:49 You should watch that. Yes. That would be something good you could watch. I cried a lot. Oh. I also just got a shirt from Target that's, I'm going to crop it.
Starting point is 00:35:00 That's so cute. Yes. I'm a true Harry Potter fan. I'm a nerd. It's so funny when people talk to me because I'm a huge nerd. Like I love Marvel. I love Harry Potter. I don't like Lord of the Rings.
Starting point is 00:35:11 My boyfriend tried to give me to watch it and I can't. I cannot get into it. I don't know why. I'm like, this is the most boring thing I've ever seen. Yeah, I can't get into that either. I know. That's probably going to make some people mad too. Well, I know.
Starting point is 00:35:22 Because it's such a big movie series. It is. That's how I am with Star Wars, though. I'm like a lot of people mad with that. Oh, Star Wars was pretty good. Which ones have you seen? Which ones, all of them? No, not all of them.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Okay, you need to see the new ones. Okay. That's what got me back into it. I, like, got through the older ones. And they were good. Towards the end of them, they were good. But you would like, like, the newer ones. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:43 I'll do it another shot. Yeah. Right? Yeah. It was like the older. Now you have Hitman's Bodyguard and Hitman Bodyguard's wife and Star Wars and the Harry Potter reunion. There we go.
Starting point is 00:35:53 I just gave you a whole lot of homework. Next time I talk to you, I'm going to have some. New suggestions too. All right. I'm expecting that. I know. I have a lot to do. I mean, we always talk about TV shows and movies on here.
Starting point is 00:36:04 You have to start adding this. That's to be just to your daily regimen. Yes. Have to watch. It's like drink water. Watch things on TV. I can't go to bed until I watch my new show. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:16 Oh, man. Okay. Well, we still have more to talk to, but right now you guys can hear the guys ranking their own looks. Number six. On a scale of 1 to 10, the average guy thinks he, a blank. Average guy. Amy, go.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Average guy thinks he's a six. Yeah. I mean, I think I'm about a 6.5. If you were to ask me, I've always said I'm about 6.5. But on a scale, the average guy thinks it's a 5.99. Oh. So basically a 6. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:42 So if someone says, if someone were to come to you and say, yeah, Amy, you're around to 6. Would you be insulted? A little bit. I love to be honest, Amy. I've done. And were you insulted? I mean, no, no, because I don't put, where do we're, I put myself, like I don't, I don't like numbers or ranking, but we, on our show from listeners,
Starting point is 00:37:03 I've been ranked a one or a 10. Okay. Okay. So six, it's about right. No one's ranked you a one. Yes. Are you kidding? No one's ranked you a one. Amy, those are haters, Amy.
Starting point is 00:37:14 Oh, yeah. They exist. The average guy thinks they're about a six. Let's be honest. Okay, we need truth serum. I don't want to play this game. You're going to make me rank the boys on the show. Oh, I love it.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Rank themselves. Oh, good. Okay. All right. I'm out. Okay. Amy can rank a son. Eddie.
Starting point is 00:37:28 Yeah. Honestly, truth serum. What do you rank yourself? What do you rank yourself? I just drank it. And look, I'm a good looking dude. So I'm going to say I'm a seven, a solid seven. I'm not Brad Pitt, obviously, but I'm a pretty good looking guy, I think.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Okay. I would give myself a 6.5. Okay. Do you think that you're better looking than me? No, I think we're about the same. See, you're laughing at me. Wait, what? That was Amy who loved.
Starting point is 00:37:54 That was Amy who loved. Amy. Amy, I'm smiling because you're my friend. I laugh. I laugh. Look, listen, people, looks are relative. Yeah, but that's what we're talking about here. We're talking about.
Starting point is 00:38:04 How you see yourself. But like, so you and Eddie, his wife, thinks he's hotter than you. Oh, exactly. Ask my wife, she'll pick. I'm a 10 and you're a 1. I don't know why we got to do that. It's 1. Okay.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Raymundo, be honest. Raymundo is our audio producer. Kind of looks like Mark Ruffalo. Raymundo, what do you think? I would say eight, five. And if I was taller, I'd probably be nine five. Okay. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:38:34 You think you're an eight and a half? I honestly do. Yeah. Okay. Lunchbox? Here we go. Well, I mean, I wake up in the morning. I look in the mirror and I'm like, dang, that is one good looking dude I'm looking back at.
Starting point is 00:38:48 And I'm a 10. I mean, I got my shirt off looking in the mirror. And I'm like, that's a 10. That's what all the ladies love is me. And that's why I'm a 10. Okay, so. See, there's no truth sermon. Well, I'm going to do the average here.
Starting point is 00:39:00 So, Lunchbox thinks he's a 10. Ramundo thinks he's an 8-5. I think I'm a 6-5. And Lunchbox, or wait, and Eddie thinks he's a 7. Solid. Okay, 14. 50. Of everyone, Bobby, you rate yourself the lowest.
Starting point is 00:39:12 32. Okay. This show averages thinking they're an 8. That's pretty good. But an 8. Look at our show. Come on. Yeah, look at our show.
Starting point is 00:39:22 But if we took a group picture, guys, wouldn't everybody be like, hey, those are some good looking dudes? I don't think so. No. I think they'd be like, that's an average. Right down the middle dudes? A bunch of average guys. The fact that you guys think you're a seven and eight, not a seven, a seven, a seven I can get.
Starting point is 00:39:37 Thank you. An 8.5 and a 10. Wait, why is Ray not at 8.5 though? It's, like, a model. You think Ray's at 8.5 any? When is Ray modeled anything ever? Ten years ago? When he got tricked by some dude who never released a picture?
Starting point is 00:39:53 He's for like the limited or express or something. Ray, do you think you could be a model right now? No, I got to lose some weight. And all the models are tall. There's honestly not a market for shorter dude models. So that's what told me back. That one photo shoot you did, you were laying down.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Yes, it didn't matter. Yeah, the guy. I know. But that photo shoot was creepy. And it wasn't real. They got tricked him. And it's also when I lived in Texas. I was the tannest I've ever been.
Starting point is 00:40:20 And I was in my prime. I was in my 20s. So that was the best shape of my life. life. All right, well, there you have it. Lunchbox says he's a 10. Ray says it's an 8.5. Eddie says it's a 7. I say I'm a 6.5. Okay. Hey, thank you guys for having your truth, sir. I'm bringing that to you. Thank you for asking. Oh, man. Okay. It's the best bits of the week with Morgan number two. Now at McDonald's, get an iced coffee for $199 all day. Wait, $199? Really? All day. And for any
Starting point is 00:40:53 size. Any size? What I just say? That McDonald's has any size iced coffee for $1.99 all day. Yes, I think I was pretty clear. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe you could use some coffee. I do have a dollar. A 99 cents. Price and participation may vary cannot be combined with any other offer.
Starting point is 00:41:13 Ba-da-ba-ba-ba-ba. Hey everyone, it's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Earsay, the Audible and I-Heart Audio Book Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook Project Hail Mary, massive sci-fi adventure about survival and science. And what happens when you wake up alone very far from Earth? I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat
Starting point is 00:41:44 and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections. And it's like, okay, yo, yeah, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no, at this point, it would kind of be betraying. the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that deeply emotionally affected me and I left it on the mic. That's great. Because it served the story.
Starting point is 00:42:08 People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too. Listen to Eursay, the Audible and IHeart Audio Book Club on the IHeart Radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's talk about modern home shopping. It's sort of become a fun side hobby, right? Scrolling listings at night, dreaming about kitchens you've never seen, or backyards you haven't even stepped foot in,

Starting point is 00:43:19 That's redfin.com. In at number five, Bobby was asked to share what the show members look like as far as celebrity goes. Because Bobby's so good about identifying what somebody looks like based on a celebrity. And so a listener asked him to do that with the show. And so we did all that, which is pretty funny. If you go to Bobbybones.com, you can see the side-by-side comparison of who he thought all of this looked like. And he was pretty spot on. I'm not going to lie.
Starting point is 00:43:45 He nailed it. And he also said I looked like Brie Larson, which cool. I love her. I'm obsessed with Captain Marvel. So awesome. But definitely look up that on Bobby Bones.com because it's pretty funny. Now, okay, I've been seeing this circle on Twitter for a while and we never got to talk about it on the show, but I thought it would be fun for us to do this, okay?
Starting point is 00:44:06 There's people online are sharing like houses that they would create and then everybody like kind of competes to see who, which house you would be a part of, right? It could be like they'll do like an artist edition where it's all these artists or they'll do movies or whatever. But I kind of made it a different way. So you and I are going to put together a house right now. Oh, that's fun. So here's the questions we each have to answer and we'll keep yours in your mind because then we'll like repeat it.
Starting point is 00:44:32 It's kind of like a social media version of mash. Okay. I love it. Yeah. That's what is the food? And you can only have one answer to each of these. What is the food you have in your house? Pizza.
Starting point is 00:44:47 Pizza. Okay. Abby's is pizza. Pizza. Mine would be Mexican. Okay. God love tacos, Kesa, all the things that come with it.
Starting point is 00:44:57 Ooh, that's better, a bigger variety. Pizza. Hey, that's the right. Everybody loves pizza. I know. And you can eat pizza cold. True. Yes.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Why am I doing help? I'm not supposed to help you. I know. I know. Listen to her. What is the celebrity you have at your house? That's a hard one. I know.
Starting point is 00:45:15 Just one? Only one. What in the world? You can be an artist. It could be an actor. It could be anything you want. Oh, it's got to be like universal. This is hard.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Listen, I got mine. You do? I do. What, can you say yours? Mostly because I am obsessed and will always be obsessed with her. It's Dolly Parton. Okay. I mean, Mexican food with Dolly Parton.
Starting point is 00:45:37 Dang. Oh, she could have a margarita. I'm sure. Oh, my gosh. That's included. Margaritas. Hey, that is included, okay? Dang it, this is hard. I know.
Starting point is 00:45:46 Only one. It could be anything, anyone. I know. But I think I'm going to go with Garth. I think Garth, yeah. Okay. Pizza and Garth Brooks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:54 Dalli Parton in Mexican. Okay. These are going pretty strong. What's the animal you have in your house? Oh, a dog. A dog. That's nice. I do love dogs.
Starting point is 00:46:04 And I would love to have my Remy in the house. I played it safe with a dog because there's a lot of animals that people would love to have in their house. I think I want to choose a dog too because like I would put a sloth because I'm obsessed with them. Oh my gosh, the sloths. But there's not a lot of people that like sloths. But I also love my dog more than sloths. So Remy. Remi. So we both have dogs.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Okay. Okay. What's the song you have on repeat? Oh, geez, on repeat. Mm-hmm. I'm trying to think. I know. Why is this hard?
Starting point is 00:46:35 It's, it's so hard. I know. Like, it's literally. I did want to make a, let me laugh. Friends in Low Places by Garth. Like Garth there and Garth's just performing friends on low places and on repeat. Yeah, he's doing it live on repeat.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Okay. Oh, man. Okay. That's mine. That was, yeah. Oh, man. I just had to make it funny. What is the song I would have on repeat?
Starting point is 00:46:58 I feel like it should be a Shania Twain song. Because I just imagine, you know, me and Dolly singing like, let's go girls. Oh, that's good. I was going to say Shania for my person, actually. I know. But then you had Garth and you're like, yeah. But see, I want to hang out with Dolly. I need somebody else to be singing something.
Starting point is 00:47:17 So I'm doing a Shania song. Okay. I don't know if I can be specific. Man, I like your house, too. though. No, I'm like, I like yours. You have Garthburgs and pizza. We'll be neighbors. Yeah, I'm madden that. That would be amazing. Okay. And then the last one. What genre of movies is on TV? Oh, funny. I have to go funny. Comedy? Yep. All right. And I'm going rom-com. I love romance and I love comedy. So rom-com all the way. Those are two pretty good houses. So mine,
Starting point is 00:47:44 I got Mexican Dolly Parton with dogs. I got Shania Twain on repeat. And we got rom-coms playing on the TV. What you got? I got pizza with Garth Brooks singing his own song, Friends in Low Places, comedy. And a dog. Yes. These are two pretty good houses. But y'all, if you're listening to this, you have to choose one. Yes. You have to tell us who you choose. Pick one. They're both pretty good. A lot of Garth in mine. A lot of Garth is loving it up at Abby's house. And then I got Dolly and Shania and dogs. Yeah. With margaritas. There we got. That's pretty inviting, actually. I know. There's all the things happening. But I'm glad we did that. That was fun. Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:22 Hey, too. You guys can choose our houses by, you know, just hitting us up on social media, letting us know. Or you can also tell us yours. Like, you know, what would your house look like? You only choose one. But after you do all that and that's all fun, make sure you listen right now. This is Bobby sharing what he thinks each of the show members look like as celebrities or our celebrity lookalikes. And make sure you check out those side-by-side photos at bobbybones.com.
Starting point is 00:48:48 Number five. There's a voicemail we got last night. This is from Aaron in Oklahoma. What's up, Bobby? Good morning studio. I was just listening to the podcast, and I was on my way home and listened to Bobby say that he can describe any person based on a celebrity.
Starting point is 00:49:06 Can relate anyone to a celebrity? And so I'm just wondering for those that listen on the radio and doesn't know what everyone looks like. Could you go around the room, go around the studio, and just describe everyone based on a celebrity did they look like so we can all have an idea of what you guys look like. I think that's fair and when you play this game
Starting point is 00:49:24 it's not they have to look exactly like but it's just you need to frame of reference and so Amy to me you've always been like Carrie Russell from the Americans Felicity both when you were young now you're 40 you both
Starting point is 00:49:40 you look the same still you're Carrie Russell you guys didn't change from you know your 20s to 40s you still look the same as her so I would go Amy Carrie Russell, Eddie. I would say like a Michael Pena, the actor, with a beard. Nice. Or a, from Napoleon
Starting point is 00:49:56 Dynamite. Like a... Pedro? Yes. Really? Maybe Pedro with some gray in his beard. Okay, I don't see it, but that's okay, I'll go with it. But that's how I would describe you. I would like, imagine Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite. Aging by 20 years, putting like a gray and black beard now. Oh. Okay. Thanks.
Starting point is 00:50:12 Lunchbox. Doug funny from Doug. The cartoon. He's a cartoon, though. But he's still. looks like, or, if not Doug funny, something that listeners have constantly said is, and what's the actor's name? Buccini, whatever, Bouchini, Jim Bouchini. Yes. It's so ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:50:30 Not even close, but whatever. A lot of people say Tom Brady. Not one person has said Tom Brady. No, no, no, they don't. Morgan number two, I would say, have you ever seen Captain Marvel? Yeah. The question, the movie Captain Marvel. Is that Brie Larson?
Starting point is 00:50:45 That's Brie Larson. And if I were to say, I would go toward like a Brie Larson type from Morgan number two. Oh, that's so nice. Thank you. I get Pedro. She gets Brie Larson. Exactly. I got Steve Bushimi.
Starting point is 00:50:56 Get out of here. For Eddie, though, I have that Saw guy from Homeland. Yeah, Saul. Saul looks just like my dad. Yeah, that works. You're headed that way. Yeah, for sure. Thanks, Amy.
Starting point is 00:51:07 And then finally, Ray Mundo. You look like Mark Ruffalo. Yeah. Who plays the Hulk in the Avengers or the Hulk. movies. I'll take it. Probably a little smaller than him. I don't know. How tall is Mark Ruffalo? Is he also a short? Oh, wow. I mean, yeah, you're still smaller than him at 5'8.
Starting point is 00:51:25 But if he needs a stand in, let me know. But you do look like Mark Ruffalo. Thank you. So that's what I would say there. I appreciate that voicemail, but I can do that pretty quick. And then you? Dexter. Dexter. Yeah, that's a good one. With brown hair. Especially without glasses. Yeah. And the guy, Dexter, Michael C. Hall, is his name?
Starting point is 00:51:46 Another one that I get a lot's Denzel. Washington? No. You don't think so? No. The chin maybe? No. It's the best bits of the week with Morgan number two.
Starting point is 00:52:01 Hilarious moment for all of us on the show besides lunchbox. He brought a story sharing that somebody thought he was a person dealing with homelessness. Like, who in the world would this happen to besides lunchbox? one. It would happen to Lunchbox, though, and it was so funny to hear his response to it, and he's still pretty embarrassed by the whole thing. But you can hear what went down, his thoughts, all of our thoughts, all the things right now. Number four. Here's a funny story for you. Someone confused lunchbox for a homeless guy. What were you doing? Well, I got a flat tire on the way to work, and so I pulled into a gas station,
Starting point is 00:52:43 and I just parked my car and then I'm just standing in front of the gas station, like just standing there. And this guy rolls up, it's a guy, two guys in a truck, and the guy rolls down a window and he hands, he puts $3 bills out and goes. And this is so embarrassing. Like, and he's like, here, man, maybe you get something to eat. And I was just like, no, no, no, no. Like, I'm just standing there. And I'm like, are you serious? And he goes, I said, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:53:09 He goes, no, man. Like, everybody needs help now and then. And I was like, oh my gosh. Like this dude, like, because I'm just standing there in front of the gas station. Like, I mean, I really do look homeless. I have a bag on my back. You know, I got my backpack. I got my unshaven beard, you know.
Starting point is 00:53:23 I mean, it's early in the morning. So I probably do look. My hair is long and over my ears. So, I mean, I guess I looked homeless and the guy would not. He rolled down the window and, you know, stuck out $3. And so I took $3. He did? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:37 Of course he did. No, you did. I absolutely did. I was so embarrassed. for the first like 30 seconds of him like insisting that I take the $3, trying to help me get something to eat. Like, man, everybody needs help now and then. And I was like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:53:51 That's a free $3. So I took $3. And it's like I need to help. No. Take that $3 and give it to the guy that sells the papers on our corner near work. Yeah. Yeah, he's awesome. Yeah, great idea.
Starting point is 00:54:04 Yeah. Do that. But I'm just saying, I mean, I cannot believe. He's not committing to it. I cannot believe that someone thought I looked at that homeless. I can. Yeah. It's believable.
Starting point is 00:54:14 Yeah, it's pretty, actually. Yeah, yeah, you sold this. It's the best bits of the week with Morgan number two. Now at McDonald's get an iced coffee for $199 all day. Wait, $199? Really? All day and for any size. Any size? What I just say?
Starting point is 00:54:34 That McDonald's has any size iced coffee for $199 all day. Yes, I think I was pretty clear. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe you could use some coffee. I do have a dollar. A 99 cents. Price and participation may vary. Cannot be combined with any other offer.
Starting point is 00:54:51 Ba-da-ba-ba-ba-ba. Hey, everyone. It's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Earsay, the Audible and I-Heart Audio Book Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's
Starting point is 00:55:07 audiobook Project Hail Mary, massive sci-fi adventure about survival. and science, and what happens when you wake up alone very far from Earth? I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections, and it's like, okay, yo, yeah, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no, at this point, it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that deeply emotionally affected me, and I left it on the mic.
Starting point is 00:55:43 That's great. Because it served the story. People will say like, oh, my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too. Starting point is 00:56:55 to start finding and start owning. That's redfin.com. We love a spinning the wheel challenge on this show. We do it all the time and everybody's names are up there and get to deal with anxiety while the wheel spins. Especially this week because it was some hot dog flavored candy canes. Oh my gosh, no. Which nobody even debated the situation. Mike D and I were both up on that wheel and we are vegan and vegetarian. I saw that.
Starting point is 00:57:22 I was like, what's going to happen when it lands on you guys? All I'm going to say is I'm glad it didn't it because Eddie made it sound like it was meat and it was dog food and it was all kinds of things. So regardless of the meat situation. I'm going to throw up. I haven't had a hot dog since like middle school. I cannot stay. I don't think most people eat hot dogs after they realize what's in them. Yeah, and that's what happened to me.
Starting point is 00:57:42 It's like when your kid, hey, life's all free. It's cool. I'm just going to put it all in my mouth and eat. I'll eat sand, whatever. Then you get older and you're like, why was I eating that? Yep, that's what happened. And I think that happens with hot dogs often. Even though they still, people eat them a lot.
Starting point is 00:57:58 I know. Well, okay, so we were, my family and I were discussing this, which is so funny. You know, nostalgia is so big right now, but we were. talking about foods that we or places we used to love to eat that don't exist anymore. Now, Wichita, all my Wichita people are going to know these two. And you might remember these two, Abby, they were on the west side. I think there might have been an east of one of them. But Timberland. Timberland. Oh my gosh. Timberline. We got there every Wednesday. Oh, my gosh. This place had the best bread and butter. Like before Texas Roadhouse had bread and butter.
Starting point is 00:58:33 Yes. I think this was even before our Texas Roadhouse existed. Best bread and butter. I always got cheese fries. You threw peanuts on the floor and they always had a Sunday bar for the kids. They did. Yes. Free Sunday bar.
Starting point is 00:58:45 Every time. Wait, did you ever have Amarillo Grill? I don't think so. Because that was what we went from there. When that closed, we went to Timberline. Steakhouse. Okay. So it was kind of like.
Starting point is 00:58:56 So Amarine, they were similar? Kind of. It was like steak and like a salad before. Not the same experience though? I mean, no, not at all. I was going to say Timberline has. had like, you know, these cute little wood, like literally like a tree that you were sitting on in the boost and stuff. Yeah. And like there was a balloon man on Wednesday. There was.
Starting point is 00:59:16 You would always come up to my table. I'm telling you, this place was like, and I still remember, I wish I could eat there because the food was insane. Oh, it's so good. What's it now? I think it's a, it's a Mexican restaurant. It's a Tex-Mex. It's a pepper. It's like picture. It's It's red and yellow as their branding. What is it called? Jose Peppers. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:38 I was a server at Jose Peppers. Really? By the way. Yeah. We're learning so many things about Abby this time. So many things. Well, I think that's what it is now. But I think it was a few things over the course of time.
Starting point is 00:59:50 But Timberline was in there forever. Miss that place. Another place was players where they had TVs in every booth. So you'd always go there after games. Like I played softball. So every time after a softball game, and we'd go to players. All of us girls in our uniforms are dirty uniforms and we'd be eating.
Starting point is 01:00:08 It's like a sports bar, but they had little mini TVs at your own booth. Why is it not there anymore? That's fun. I don't know. I think it's a bank now. I don't even think the restaurant's there anymore. See, that always makes me sad when places, they're like so good. And I'm like, why did you leave?
Starting point is 01:00:23 It's always the ones that are like local too. And I get it because chains are easier to, you know, there's money across the board. You can save them and whatever. But it makes me really sad about local restaurants. because I love eating local. I'm one of those people that support it. I hope more people do. But yeah, and then there was one more.
Starting point is 01:00:40 It was red beans. It was occasion. It came from Louisiana. And they had corn fritters, which is where I found my love of corn fritters. Have you ever had a cornflitter? They're like corn, and you can get them at Walmart.
Starting point is 01:00:51 I found them at Walmart. I think they call them corn nuggets at Walmart. Are there corn nuts? No, corn nuggets. Okay, then no, yeah. They're like if you had, fried a little cheeseball, but it's corn in them. It's like, have you ever had corn pudding?
Starting point is 01:01:07 Yes. Yeah, yeah. It's like corn pudding but in fried little nuggets. Oh, ooh, that sounds good. If you love corn and like I loved it as a kid, especially this place, they had insane ones. So they had corn nuggets, but then they also had this amazing pasta that I'll never ever be able to have again. See, that's so sad. It was like a, you walked in it was like Mardi Gras in that restaurant.
Starting point is 01:01:28 Really? Yeah. Oh, my gosh. It was really good. Is there any, like, restaurants you miss? Foods you miss. I like to, like, remnant words are hard. Reminence on things.
Starting point is 01:01:40 We used to go to Ryan's. It was like a... Yeah, I remember seeing that sign. Like a, what am I trying to say? A buffet. Okay. So just like all you can eat. So we went there all the time.
Starting point is 01:01:50 My dad, like every Wednesday, I would go out to eat with my dad. And then we'd go to Timberline. Mm-hmm. And the balloon man. The balloon man. And the salad bar. But we went to a place called Italian. garden and but then we went to Olive Garden after that but we it was like we went all the time
Starting point is 01:02:07 Italian Garden was like similar to Olive Garden? Yeah it was like before. Was it Olive Garden and they changed it? No. Totally different. Yep, totally different. I just remember there was like a ramp when you got it. It was like a carpet ramp when you go in. I used to run down it. It was very weird. Isn't it the crazy things that you remember? Yeah, I was probably like five like and I remember that. Yeah, but then we went to Olive Garden all the time. It was like, I know that's not local but like I'm, like, I know that's not local, but like I just grew up at that point. Well, at least all of Garden is still here. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 01:02:34 It's still here. There was two in the, we had Warren theaters, you know, before all of the theaters started getting bought out by AMC and all those. We had Warren theaters. And at the Warren theaters on 21st Street, there used to be a little diner in it. And I'd always get milkshakes before I'd go to the movie. I did too. They were the best.
Starting point is 01:02:52 They were so good. I'd get fries and I'd get a milkshake and then I'd go to my movie. I'd go get a strawberry shake. Yeah. It was like the best. ever had. And I was like, I only get it. Yeah, before you go to a movie. Because you don't just go there to eat there. Maybe some people did, but we always got it like right before a movie. Uh-huh. But yeah. Did you ever go to Felipe's? I remember that? Yeah. Like the original one.
Starting point is 01:03:14 Yes. When it was like in a small, a tiny. Yeah. No, I like, and I could go down this rabbit rabbit hole forever. And I know, I hope this makes people think of the places that they don't get to have anymore and they still love them. But I just like, I think back then and I'm like, gosh, I was such a big foodie and I didn't even realize it. I loved all these places and they're still my favorites in my brain somewhere. You know, it's crazy to me. Like, I'm not a foodie now anymore, but I used, like, I used to try to eat as much as I could. Like, we would order pizzas and we would get like a cheese, just like the cheese sticks before it or whatever, like cheese bread. And I would literally be like, you think I can all this? I'm going to try to eat like five pieces tonight. And I like do not do that now. Like I have such
Starting point is 01:03:55 a small stomach. It's weird. But I usually did the reverse one. Yes. It's so weird. And I would have cereal like every night for dinner. Like I would get in this phase where I would like, okay, I was into many weeks and then. Let me ask you this. My dad turned me on to this and I think it's, he turned me onto it when I was younger. But I think it is an older person cereal, but raisin nut brand. Raised nut brand. Have you ever had it? Yeah. I love it. You do? I still love it. It has like the sugary like corn flakes and then it has red, raisins and it has almonds in it.
Starting point is 01:04:30 Yeah. And I love it. I literally bought some the other day because I was like, oh, I miss this. Oh, I think that, yeah. Do you like that? You're like, no, that's a terrible one. I mean, I used to. I think I used to, but I don't know, just the raisins.
Starting point is 01:04:41 I don't really like raisins anymore. See, I like, I like raisins and everybody always gives trail mix a hard time because raisins are in trail mix. I'm like, why are you there? I don't love raisins. They're just like a space filler. I'm like, put something else good in there. But you also like oatmeal raisin cookies, don't you?
Starting point is 01:04:54 Yeah. I guess you could say, yeah, because you don't like chocolate chip. Yes. Look, I can't explain my habits. I don't even, I can't. I don't know. It was like this little kid just grew up and was like, I don't want to do any of it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:06 And you know what else I do? I still do that I've always done since I was a kid. I don't know if you do this. When I pick up a French fry, the part that I ate it with, I like, I put back down. Okay. Explain this again. Like my fry ends. I don't, so you grab a part of the French fry.
Starting point is 01:05:22 And I usually grab like the crispy end. Okay. And that's what I grab. I dip it and ketchup. and then I bite it, and then I leave the little tiny end back on the... You don't eat the whole french fry? No. So when you're down with a plate of french fries, there's just a bunch of french fry butts on it?
Starting point is 01:05:37 Yes. Abby. I tried to work on that or I don't get fries. Are you a bird? I don't get fries in public because that's embarrassing. I would never make fun of you, but I just have so many questions. You can. It's something I've never like...
Starting point is 01:05:55 No, but it sounds like yourself conscious about it. I am. I am. I can't let you. Because I can't look you imagine going out to eat with me and we're done and you look down in my plate is full of french fry ends. No, that's pretty gross. They're officially called french fry butts, but. Have you tried to eat a whole french fry?
Starting point is 01:06:13 I just, I won't. It's, I have to, it's just the whole process. Is it, do you think it might be like an OCD thing? I don't know. I didn't think I had OCD, but. I do believe most people have a tendency of OCDs, not necessarily an OCD. and maybe that's called something else, but maybe just a tendency.
Starting point is 01:06:32 Like, I cannot describe... Like, you can't, like, if somebody physically goes like, you have to eat this french fry, this whole french fry. I mean, I could do that. You could do it. You just don't want to.
Starting point is 01:06:41 No, I don't like that crispy end. I just like... So you also not only don't like french fry butts, you like soggy french fries. Not really soggy, but you know the part of it that comes off to a point. You're talking about the really good part that's very greasy.
Starting point is 01:06:54 I know what you're talking about. But you don't even like Do you french fries at all? No, I do. Just not one end of it. I just pick an end and I'm like, I'm not going to want that in. So I'll dip the other and I'll take a bite and put it back. I'm going to need you at some point in your life, even if you go by yourself, to go eat order a thing of french fries and then take a picture at the end.
Starting point is 01:07:13 Oh, I've done that. Trust me. I probably did it over the break. I could find it. Oh, my God. But while we're still talking, I need to see this picture. And I need to hear the reaction because I'm just picturing a bunch of french fry butts. And I know everybody else's too.
Starting point is 01:07:26 I don't know if we go over a break. I know it. It's like within the last year because my parents think I'm so weird. Okay, your parents don't do it though. No, they're embarrassed. They're like, oh, there she goes again. Like, I just mangle all my food. That's okay.
Starting point is 01:07:38 Well, while you look for it, I'm going to share some food news. People have been wanting some food worlds. Yes. So let me share some that are up there. So Wendy's is testing three new frosty Sundays. I don't know about y'all, but I love a good, like, frosty with fries. and in Columbus, Ohio, they are testing out three flavors. Marshmallow Charms Frosty Sunday,
Starting point is 01:08:01 classic strawberry Frosty Sunday, and Chocolate Lovers Frosty Sunday. Now, does that not sound delicious? That is, wow. Right? I'm hoping it happens, like, everywhere because I would totally go try one of these and still dip their French fries.
Starting point is 01:08:14 Like, Wendy's is my go-to place for Frosty French Frye Situation. Have you had a Frosty and French fries, Abby? That's not appealing to me. I like ketchup and fries. I like ketchup and fries. I like ranching fries. I like honey mustard and fries. I like everything with fries.
Starting point is 01:08:31 There's not many things I won't eat with fries. Really? Yes. Oh my gosh. And I will eat the whole fries. Did you get a, did you find a picture? This is a different one. This is just a sandwich because I like mingle things.
Starting point is 01:08:41 This is another thing I do. You look like you murdered the sandwich. The picture that Abby's showing me right now is a picture of a chicken sandwich, right? Yes. And it looks like a child tore apart and decided to play with their food and not eat it. Did you eat any of that? Yeah, I picked a part.
Starting point is 01:08:59 I picked the parts I wanted. Do you have like texture things? Like you don't like textured of things? I maybe. I just don't like extra crispy. Like the part of like an extra crispy side. Do you want your food to be soft? That's what I'm getting from this.
Starting point is 01:09:16 Sure. You want it to be low crispy and mostly softs. Not like crunchy where you got to like crunch down on this hard crunch. I don't think anybody wants our food. to be hard, but like crispy. I don't know. I can't explain it. Oh, Abby. Oh, see, it's so bad.
Starting point is 01:09:33 Okay, well, keep looking for your French fried buds, but she, guys, she murdered a chicken sandwich. Like, it was already gone and then, yeah, listen. Okay. Another one, y'all been hitting me up online hard about this one because everybody knows I love TacoBot. Taco Bay. Taco Bell, listen, can't talk today.
Starting point is 01:09:49 Taco Bell is launching a subscription service for $10, okay? listen to this abby you can sign up through the taco bell app grab a taco a day for 30 days from the choice of seven different tacos so literally for $10 you could get a free taco every day for a month did you already do that did you already I didn't because I mean there's only like really one taco I eat from Taco Bell now it's the I get like a soft taco black bean one because they don't eat meat so I just don't know about these other variations I don't know that's worth it for me right And I've been trying to hold back on my addiction from Taco Bell. I've also been eating a lot at Panda Express lately.
Starting point is 01:10:29 Your addiction. She has admitted right here that she is addicted to Taco Bell. I am addicted to Taco Bell. I'm still waiting for them to sponsor me one day, you know? I know. I am too. I am queen of Taco Bell. You would think that they already are.
Starting point is 01:10:42 You would think, right? But Panda Express, that's your new go-to? Mm-hmm. I love it. I figured out that I can eat cream cheese ragoons because before, anytime you went to a Chinese restaurant, they would have raccoons, but it was like crab ragoon, and I can't eat that. So when I figured out I could have cream cheese dragoons with sweet and sour sauce,
Starting point is 01:11:00 oh my God. It's amazing. You're like, this is it. Oh, yeah, I'll devour like 50 of them if you give them to me. Wow. They're so good. Oh, my gosh. And another little food world, Abby's still scrolling through her phone.
Starting point is 01:11:11 Not having luck. Not having luck. It's okay. You may just have to take a new photo and share it for your Instagram and for me, just so we can experience this together. Another girl. Okay. Could you like leftovers?
Starting point is 01:11:23 Yeah. Yeah? What's like the one thing you say you'll always eat? I'll eat almost any leftover, even fries. Well, let's see. Salad. You love salad with the dressing on it? Yeah, I like it as it gets sogier and more like in the dressing.
Starting point is 01:11:37 You do like soft food, Abby. Weird. You like soggy food. Yeah, ew. That's gross. That's totally true, though, because if you like a salad soggy, you just said that. I know. Ew, who likes.
Starting point is 01:11:47 I think we just figured it out. You like soggy food. That's kind of gross. That's why you don't like the. I mean, everybody has their thing. Yeah. That's your thing. You like soggy food.
Starting point is 01:11:57 Yes. Oh, man. What else? I mean, a burger. Like, that's good leftover pizza. Like spaghetti, pasta. Yeah. All of that's like...
Starting point is 01:12:04 I'm all about leftovers. I'm also the same person that like, I will eat my entire pantry and fridge before I go to the store because I don't want to waste food. I'm really, really bad about that instead of like just be like, Morgan, you don't need to eat everything. I will finish everything. Oh.
Starting point is 01:12:17 So you're, it's just like bare. Like, you have nothing in there when you go to the store. Pretty much. Like, besides. like things that I'd have to put a lot of things together to make them, like the bare essentials. Well, that's good though. I try. Wish I could be more like.
Starting point is 01:12:30 It's a bad habit. Okay. I'm going to sit there and be eating like cheese and crackers for like three days before I go get food. Yeah. It's not a good thing. But, um, so 72% of Americans enjoy eating leftovers. How many? Wait, what's the percentage?
Starting point is 01:12:44 72%. Okay. So these are the top five. 63% pizza. Yes. 62% meat. 60% pasta. Pasta. Pasta tastes good for at least like a week.
Starting point is 01:12:55 Oh, so good. Rice, 55%. Some go fry rice stays pretty good. And number five is vegetables at 54%. Okay. This is making me hungry now. I know. How do I always end up talking about food? Who am I? That I think we should keep talking about food.
Starting point is 01:13:11 You just love food. I know. What else is going on in your life? Anything new? I cannot. I can't find it. You're just going to have to take a new picture of French fried butts. I can do that tonight. I still do it.
Starting point is 01:13:21 Wait, hey, it's like a habit. I don't even realize I'm doing it. I know. And I think it's hilarious that you like soggy foods. It has been established that I have an addiction to Taco Bell and you like soggy foods. Yeah. Two things have been determined on this podcast. That has been like an issue in my dating life too.
Starting point is 01:13:38 What? Because like I'm just not really like a foodie and I'm very weird and picky. Not really an issue, but I just don't like saying it because guys like to eat. And that's like a thing, like what is it to a man's stomach is through food? Oh, you're saying the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Yeah. Listen. Abby, that's from the 50s. No, it's, I encounter it. Because that's what guy, they're like, oh, I'm going to take you to a nut. What do you want to eat whatever? And I'm like, I'll just, I'm going to get a salad. Like, they're, like, excited for like this, like, fancy restaurant.
Starting point is 01:14:10 And I'm just like, I love simple. Just like, simple is better. See, here's the thing, though. You just need to find a guy that allows you to be yourself. Yes. It's the problem. Yeah. If you were having, encountering men who have a problem with your husband. eating habit. Well, you know, I'll tell you, when I was on dating apps, I would always see guys right. Like, if you're a vegetarian, I can't go out with you. And I would purposely mess with those people. Because I'm like, are you really that, like, self-absorbed that you think somebody being a vegetarian is the end of your world? Right. Like, it has no control over what you do, but it's the end of your world. I do see that a lot. See, if you think, even, like, for you, though, being a picky eater,
Starting point is 01:14:50 or if they think that is like the end-all be-all, then you don't want to be with them anyway. That is a man you do not want to spend your time with. I know. So that's true. That's a 50s phrase, Abby. And yes, you can learn to bake and you can do a lot of things, right? Like, if you want a food situation in your relationship,
Starting point is 01:15:08 there is a lot of ways to do that. And I'm sure on some level you can find common ground. So that should not be a thing. I know. Yeah. It is. Like, because. I guess I'm like embarrassed to say that.
Starting point is 01:15:23 You're embarrassed to say that you're a picky eater? Yeah. Or that I leave my french fries. That I do crazy. I pick apart my sandwiches. You know, but like, if there's one thing I learned, though, in this new very healthy relationship I'm in, because I never would have learned it before, is that they start to like love and adore your quirks, right?
Starting point is 01:15:43 The things that are about you that make you different. Yeah. Because otherwise, everybody's all the same, right? Everybody's going to have their quirks and their quirks and their quirks. are things that make them who they are. And this, like, soggy food thing and eating, not eating french fry butts is your thing. Yes. And I think it's a very possibly adoring thing for a man who you end up dating.
Starting point is 01:16:01 Okay. Yeah. If they don't accept it, then bye. Yeah. I mean, trust me, there are much worse things and much worse qualities you could have than not eating the french fry butts. Exactly. I also really like saying that word.
Starting point is 01:16:13 I know. You do. I was like, wait. So you've never done that? I don't think you even have to do it either. you could, hey, you could even, there's like salad places now. You can say, hey, let's go to chopped. Yes.
Starting point is 01:16:24 Or if you don't want to do that until like the third day, but I think you do it on the first day because you figure out who they are. Oh my God. Do it on the first day? Yes. I think you figure out their reaction to things. How a person reacts to situations like this is how you find out who they are. That's true.
Starting point is 01:16:40 Because I would be laughing it off, obviously. Yeah. Well, probably, yeah. Imagine if you were sitting across, even from your boyfriend right now and you did, like, you didn't know. Like you never had fries with him. Oh, but then you... Listen, we had a hot debate when we first started dating.
Starting point is 01:16:53 He loves hummus. Yeah. And would choose hummus over french fries. And I'm like, in what place does somebody choose hummus over french fries? Yeah, who? And so we had this like hot debate. But at no point in my mind was I ever like, oh, this is the end all be all. Right. Goodness gracious.
Starting point is 01:17:08 He still eats French fries. I still eat hummus. Like, it didn't change anything. Yeah. So it wouldn't be. And it shouldn't be if, like, you know, they're a decent human. being. Now, if you have a criminal record or something bad
Starting point is 01:17:22 about you, I would understand. Yeah. So, like I said, there are worst qualities to have. I love red flags. I think you should start using it as your way of figuring out if a guy's not a good person or not. Okay. Next time I'm on.
Starting point is 01:17:38 It's the French fry meter. Yeah, it is. Oh, my gosh. The French fry meter. I'm going to start something new. Okay, yeah, everybody, once you go on your next date, do something weird that you usually do. See what happens. Oh, I will, and I was like, it's funny too.
Starting point is 01:17:53 Like, and before I started dating my boyfriend, there was one guy who I was out at a bar and he, we had mutual friends. He was like a bouncer at one of the bars. And he had seen me trip over. You know those like things that are put up to keep lines in place where they're like. Like a stanchion thing? Yeah. Yes.
Starting point is 01:18:13 And like the rope. Yeah, the little rope thing. I had straight up eating it over a rope, right? Like, hold on. I got back up and, like, giggle that myself and I thought nobody saw it. Apparently, this man, before I had ever met him, was the bouncer in this situation. And loved that I did that and I owned it so much that he literally went to our mutual friends. Was like, I need to take her out on a date.
Starting point is 01:18:35 Wow. I'm telling you. You're right. Obviously, that never worked out with that person. And he's a great guy. Just, you know, that chemistry or whatever wasn't there. But I'm like, of all the reasons to think that I'm attractive or something, that was what happened that caused that to be a date.
Starting point is 01:18:52 Probably because you just laughed it off and we're like, I was sitting there giggling. There was literally no one around Abby. Like I thought nobody saw it. And I'm just sitting there like, I'm an idiot. Like I literally said a lot, I'm an idiot. And I started giggling to myself. And little did you know that he's over there looking like, oh, my God, take her out.
Starting point is 01:19:08 Yeah. Yeah. So I tell you like, Carrie, you accept who you are. Yes. And you have to accept who you are and that you love soggy foods. Okay. Because as much as I'm giving you a hard time, I think it's a very adoring quirk. That could become a thing.
Starting point is 01:19:23 Yes. Okay. Who knows? Maybe your potential husband is going to ask you out with soggy food. You don't know. Oh my gosh. What if? What if?
Starting point is 01:19:33 I know. This could happen. I'm just saying that's it. Pro dating tip. You just put it all out there. Yeah. Just be yourself. Maybe not put it all out there.
Starting point is 01:19:42 You can't expose all of who you are on the first day. But it could be a test that you use. That's the test. I like it. It's a good test. I know. Because maybe he does the same thing. Maybe it becomes a mutual love that you guys have.
Starting point is 01:19:55 You start a soggy food club. I don't know about soggy. Is that the right word? I mean, it is. You literally said he liked soggy salads. It's soggy. Yeah, I don't like real crunchy. The direction this conversation has taken has thoroughly interested me for the rest of my life.
Starting point is 01:20:15 Oh, good. It has. Okay. Well, we're about to get into this bit, but is there any other life updates that you would like to share? Nothing. That was the big one, but I love Zodgy food. Nothing? We got nothing.
Starting point is 01:20:29 That's what our last little conversation here is going to end on before we do these two next bits, three next bits. I want people out there to know that they're not weird compared to me. You're right. But it shouldn't be compared to you. You're just, you're not weird. Yeah. Period. Abby, you are not weird, period.
Starting point is 01:20:46 Okay. Own it. Look at her. She's my little. I'm like the devil and angel on your shoulder. I do both. You are. Yes.
Starting point is 01:20:55 She tells me what I need to do and what I shouldn't do. For a better me. Oh, man. Well, what you definitely shouldn't do is try a hot dog flavored candy cane and somebody on the show this week had to. And it smelled in the studio afterwards and he was not feeling great. So let's just put that out there. You guys can hear who had to eat it and, you know, just all of it.
Starting point is 01:21:17 But really, don't try one of these. Number three. We have a box of hot dog-flavored candy canes. It says plump and juicy. Oh, wow. Sounds disgusting. We actually ordered these like October of last year, but because it got, it was so viral, we're just now getting them. So we have a wheel in studio.
Starting point is 01:21:37 Imagine the Wheel of Fortune wheel, but instead of laying down on its back, the Wheel of Fortune wheel is standing up. I spin it. Whose ever name it lands on? and we'll have to eat the entire candy cane over the next hour on the show. Oh, the whole thing? So like enjoy it, savor it as the show goes. Yeah, it's really something to spend some time with. You know, invest in it.
Starting point is 01:21:56 Okay. I hope it's shockingly good. Me too, because I love hot dogs. Yeah, why wouldn't it be good? Because. Pepperment sticks are good. Hot dogs are good. Yeah, but I don't know that I want to lick a hot dog for an hour.
Starting point is 01:22:09 It's a mixture of peppermint and hot dog. Okay, are you guys ready to spend the wheel? Yes. Who's ever name it lands on is the loser. Okay. Oh, come on. You know it's going to be lunchbox. I mean, bad things always happen to me with that wheel.
Starting point is 01:22:22 Ready, everybody? Let's take a practice spin. Oh, no, no, go on. I just want to make sure my shoulder's loose. I've had some shoulder pain. I want to make sure. Let's do a practice spin. Let's spin that wheel.
Starting point is 01:22:35 Of course. The practice spin, it won't land on my name. The practice spin, it lands on. Ramundo. Okay. There you go. Do you feel better it landed on you? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:44 Because I had the weird. just feeling that it was going to land on me for the bad one. I'm glad we did a practice for it. All right. Do you guys want to do another practice? No, no, no, no, no. All right, we have hot dog flavor candy canes. We're going to spin this will.
Starting point is 01:22:56 Somebody's going to be eating it. Here we go. Let's spin out. Bad luck, turn around. Bad luck, turn around. Let's go. That's a good spin bone. That is a solid, no.
Starting point is 01:23:10 Oh, crap. Oh, crap. Oh, crap. Oh, crap. Eddie. Hey, Eddie. This is like, because you always win. You keep winning, Eddie.
Starting point is 01:23:22 Yeah. I don't want to win this one. Eddie, come over. I mean, I thought that was going to click over to my name, and I was like, oh, no. It was one-off from Lunchbox. Oh, yes, it was. All right, Eddie. Yes, it is, it's, you know, it's the standard white on a candy cane, but the stripes are like a hot dog pink.
Starting point is 01:23:42 Hot dog color, yeah. It might be good, though, you get a great point. You like candy canes. You like candy can't. Yeah, I love hot dogs. All right, here we go. Eddie, now with the candy cane cane. I'm going to picture I'm like I'm in a baseball game.
Starting point is 01:23:52 Okay, just put it in your mouth. Take a bite. Bites. Yeah. Not only a psycho bite to candy can't end up first. What? There you go. Oh, God.
Starting point is 01:23:58 Dude, it tastes like meat. It tastes like meat. That is crazy. All right, I'll do a bite. Oh. It does go away faster. Okay. The meat's kind of gone away.
Starting point is 01:24:11 Now it's pepperminish. Oh, that's nice. Now the meat's back. Oh, my goodness. This is crazy. Like, you know, when you taste something and you breathe out your nose while you're eating it, that's what it tastes like. Dude, it tastes like dog food.
Starting point is 01:24:23 Now this is like not a good hot dog This is peppermine stick mixed with dog food This is not Oscar Meyer, I'm telling you So you're you don't like the hot dog flavor candy canes Like my tongue tastes a candy cane But the overall taste is dog food Like Alpo Why do you keep saying dog food?
Starting point is 01:24:43 Yeah, how many times do you eat dog food? You smell it, you know the out of a can And you put it in the dog food That's what you smell That's what I'm smelling right now Well you have half candy candy to eat there Where is it? is okay. So go ahead and eat at it.
Starting point is 01:24:55 Enjoy it? Yeah, like you said, savor it. Dude, honestly, if I don't breathe, it's fine. It doesn't taste like dog food. It's the best bits of the week with Morgan number two. Such an emotional story, and I love when you guys get to see these really different sides,
Starting point is 01:25:16 especially of the guys. Now, Eddie was talking about one of his newly adopted sons, and, you know, I just say that, because there are some listeners who may not know that he newly adopted some sons, but to him, it's just his son. And he shared a really emotional story about him and seeing a person living with homelessness. And I just think it's something that's probably going to make you cry. I don't try to make people cry on this podcast.
Starting point is 01:25:40 It happens often. But this bit definitely made me tear up and it may make you cry. I'm very sorry if it does, but you'll love it. Number two. He's the best daddy in the whole wide world. Oh, yeah, that's true. Eddie has four kids. Oh boy.
Starting point is 01:25:58 Two biological children, two that you are fostering and now you've adopted. Correct. You have four kids now. Yeah, man. Do I look tired because I feel tired? Well, I think that's why you're wearing this crazy beard to cover up how tired you are. Maybe. Maybe that could be it.
Starting point is 01:26:10 I just feel tired every day because it's a lot. Yeah. You know, the four kids is a lot. More than anything, they're not like annoying or anything. It's just loud all the time. So actually, when I come to work to talk to you guys, I feel good because it's nice and peaceful here. We were working the other day from my house and it snowed and everyone was trapped and I said hey you guys can go home
Starting point is 01:26:29 Like if it's in I look it's two o'clock and he's still over at the house I'll take my time So how is everything going with the kids? Everything's good I mean the boys are great It's just constant work or whatever but you know I have we have our son that you said that we did foster for a couple years and now we've adopted And he said something the other day that really like just touched me and I'm I just I don't really think about what he's thinking all the time, but we're driving. And for months now, anytime we see a homeless person, he's always says either me or mom, hey, do you have any money? Can we pay the
Starting point is 01:27:03 homeless guy? And then if we have money, we do. Or sometimes we just, the light's wrong and we just go right through or whatever. But finally, the other day he said it again. I said, why do you always ask to pay the homeless guy? He's like, well, because I just feel like that would have been me. And I was like, what? What do you mean? Well, I just feel like, Like if I wouldn't have lived here with you guys, that totally would have been me. And I'm like, you're six years old. Wow. Like that is some deep, deep thinking.
Starting point is 01:27:32 And I think for a long time, I just felt like he's just kind of going through the day to day. He's not really thinking about what his life is, what's going on in his life. But obviously, he is enough to look at a homeless man and say, wow, that could have been me. I could have been homeless. But I'm not anymore because I have a home. Amazing. I'm about to cry right now. That's amazing.
Starting point is 01:27:49 Does he call you, dad? Oh, yeah. Yeah. They both call you dad? I'm dad to both. Was there a transition where he wasn't calling you, dad? Well, it was weird because when we were fostering them, I mean, the baby we've had him, he's almost three now, and we got him from the hospital.
Starting point is 01:28:04 So I'm all he's known. So to me, I'm dad, was dad from the very beginning. But our six-year-old, you know, it was a transition because I wasn't always dad. But during the fostering period, he started to call me dad. And I was like, I don't know if this is healthy or not because I don't know what I'm doing. first off as a foster parent, the first time we'd ever done it. And as he was calling me, dad,
Starting point is 01:28:25 I said, you know what? I'm not going to stop him. If that's what he wants to call me, then maybe I'm just a dad figure to him. But now I'm just dad, like everyone else. Well, not to turn this too serious and get too emotional, but would you mind if I called you dad? No.
Starting point is 01:28:40 So you know that that will be weird. Okay, all right, all right. All right. That's a great story, though. Yeah, I thought it was pretty interesting. That's a great story. It's the best bits of the week with Morgan number two. Now at McDonald's get an iced coffee for $199 all day. Wait, $1.99? Really?
Starting point is 01:29:05 All day, and for any size. Any size? What I just say? That McDonald's has any size iced coffee for $199 all day. Yes, I think I was pretty clear. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe you could use some coffee. I do have a dollar.
Starting point is 01:29:22 A $0.99! Price and participation may vary. It cannot be combined with any other offer. Bada, ba, ba, bu. Hey, everyone, it's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Earsay, the Audible and I Heart Audio Book Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook Project Hail Mary, massive sci-fi adventure about survival and science, and what happens
Starting point is 01:29:50 when you wake up alone very far from Earth? I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections and it's like, okay, yo, yeah, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no, at this point, it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that deeply emotionally affected me and I left it on the mic. That's great. Because it served the story. People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too. Listen to your say.

Starting point is 01:31:36 Ooh, coming in hot, hot, hot at number one. Amy revealed that she wants a baby. I mean, mind blown in the studio across the board. And that's all I'm going to say. Because if I give away any more, then you guys are going to be like, what is happening? So I'm just going to let Amy say it as if you're hearing it for the first time. and yep, that's all.
Starting point is 01:31:56 Here it is. Number one. Breaking news earlier on the show, we said, hey, what song kind of defines you right now? And Amy said, hit it and play this clip right here. So Amy told us today she wants a baby, another baby. I mean, she has a cat, dog, a dog, two kids, and a bird possibly.
Starting point is 01:32:21 She was like a bird sanctuary. She says she's a mom to lots of birds in the backyard. True. Yeah, I take care of them. So she can drop that bomb on us today. But we do have a lot of callers. This is Marcy in North Dakota. Marcy, thank you for calling the show.
Starting point is 01:32:38 What would you like to say to Amy right now? Hi, Amy. I just want to say that if you think that you have that little, like, missing teeth, meaning that you need a baby, I think you should go for it. Yeah. Well, it's not that simple. It also took you six years to adopt your last kids. Right, I know. But we were doing a domestic newborn adoption, and then we pivoted to older children from Haiti. And both of my children would like a little baby sibling, they say.
Starting point is 01:33:11 So I don't know how I, I don't know. Because I wasn't ever able to get pregnant, so I guess I'd have to adopt. And also, I could just get a cat. I don't, I'm just sharing with you. I don't, remember, I don't know what the feeling is. is all I know is I carry my cat around like it's a baby and I feel a little bit crazy. Maybe you need more like wheat in your diet or something. Yeah. Maybe it's something. Right.
Starting point is 01:33:32 You know, more iron-ern. There is some void I need to fill and I know I'm not trying to just be like, oh, I need a baby. But I feel like I want to care for something like that. So maybe this is your baby. Okay. Marcy, anything else you'd like to say, Marcy? I think you could make that happen. You mean a baby?
Starting point is 01:33:55 Bones. Yeah. Okay. I mean, just caring for a baby is more than rocking it while you're cooking. I know. I know. I know. I know, I'm a mom of two children.
Starting point is 01:34:03 No, I know, but a baby baby, though. I know, I know. So just remember that part. I know they cry. I know they need to be fed. I know they don't sleep. Yeah. I know.
Starting point is 01:34:12 Okay. I always wanted that. And maybe now, I don't know, maybe because I turn 41 soon and it's like midlife crisis. Yeah. I know that's not. I'm not being irresponsible with this state. I'm just, you asked for a song that defines me at some point in my life. But you said it's how you're feeling you haven't shared it with us and you shared it with us and we all were a little wide-eyed at it.
Starting point is 01:34:31 Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Hey, or you could wait six, seven years and your daughter could have a baby. Oh, you can be a grandma. Whoa, whoa, whoa. That's easier. You are rushing her. Oh, so now she, no. Well, she's 13, right? She's 14. 14. I mean, she's 20, 21. Be real about it. Me, Ma, it'd be okay. It does not be real life. Dang, you're six years from being a grandma.
Starting point is 01:34:58 Then you can really rock that baby. Okay, guys. Okay, all right, thank you very much. Let's go over and talk to Amanda in Oklahoma. Amanda, what's going on? Hi, so I just have the perfect solution for Amy in the baby situation. Okay. So when you're fostering kids in DHS system,
Starting point is 01:35:22 You can't always take them across state lines and go out of state with them. And so a lot of parents sometimes need what's called a respite. And sometimes it's for a weekend, sometimes for a week. But I did that. But I will warn you, it makes you either really want a baby or it'll make you change your mind. So you should go up in the foster program like Eddie did for a while. The respite, yeah. Yeah, I've thought about respite care as an option before in my mind.
Starting point is 01:35:52 my life. Yeah. So we'll see. Maybe that will scratch that itch. Mm-hmm. Maybe. Or maybe it makes itch even worse. Maybe.
Starting point is 01:35:58 But either way we'll know. Or maybe I keep bouncing my cat. The cat. Why you cook. Yeah. It's the best bits of the week with Morgan number two. All right, y'all, that is it for this weekend. So much fun.
Starting point is 01:36:13 Abby, we got into it this weekend. We did. Wow. We learned a lot about ourselves and each other. Uh-huh. I don't know if that's good or bad. Well, for me. It's always a good thing, okay?
Starting point is 01:36:24 Yeah. I never have people, you know, the good thing about the best bits is I never have people coming up and my D.N's yelling at me about things. That's good. Yeah. Most of the time it's either informative or it's like everybody's really enjoying the podcast. Yeah. So you should feel good that you came in a safe space. Yes, I feel.
Starting point is 01:36:42 And disclose something about you and nobody's going to give you a hard time about it. They may laugh a little, but they're laughing with you. That's fine. At least I feel like that's the audience we've cultivated here on the best. They love with us. Mostly because we make fun of ourselves, and that's the whole point. I know. Right?
Starting point is 01:36:57 Yeah. And what did we come away with knowing? What did we? Oh. Be yourself. Yes. You can be weird, period. You can be weird.
Starting point is 01:37:06 Yeah. And don't compare yourself to others because that's what I just said. I was like, you know, that you're not weird compared to me. But no, don't compare yourself to others. Yeah. And we, you know, it's okay. Abby's learning that right now as we went through this podcast. You're never too old to learn something new, Abby.
Starting point is 01:37:22 No, you're not. See? 31. I'm teaching you like soggy foods. Yes. It was quite the experience. Is there something else you would like to end this podcast on before we leave? Or we need our full-blown conversation on soggy food?
Starting point is 01:37:36 I think we're ending in on soggy foods. I feel like my face is red and I don't know why. Your secrets have been exposed. Not even on purpose because you did it to yourself. I did. I just was along for the journey. It's not that big a deal. You're going to post your french fry butts.
Starting point is 01:37:52 my french fry I'm ever going to look at fries the same away and the same way everybody's going to see it everyone's going to see it and you know wait that's all I got
Starting point is 01:38:03 I want to know if other people do weird things like that or just like strange you know I have another thing I do too at restaurants I can't sit on the inside because that's where the ketchup
Starting point is 01:38:12 and crumbs are I've always said that since I was a kid you can't sit because it's like too dirty yeah I just feel like all the like ketchup
Starting point is 01:38:21 up and crumbs are like brushed towards the wall. So intriguing, Abby. Like this is since I was a kid and I have not grown out of it. This is what baffles me when you were talking about like, you know, nostalgia and like looking back. I'm like, I am the same I got older, but like I'm still like five years old. It's weird. You know, but you're a kid at heart, Abby, and I think that's a great thing.
Starting point is 01:38:46 Yes. Because you are an adult. You've matured. You've learned a lot in your life. You've experienced a lot of things. We're still a kid at the heart. Yeah. And that's, at the heart.
Starting point is 01:38:55 Who am I? And I think that's what matters. I was trying to be good at. I still messed it up. You're still a kid at the heart. I know, that's true. I don't think it's a bad thing. It's just crazy how the things you keep, you know, as a kid.
Starting point is 01:39:10 You keep being you, Abby. You should keep being you. I'm going to. And you're going to find somebody who loves it. I promise. Yeah. I already love it. So you already have one person that loves it.
Starting point is 01:39:19 Yes. There you go. Okay. I know I'm not a life partner, but I am a friend for life. Yes, you hope. That's all I got. Oh, man. Okay, Abby.
Starting point is 01:39:27 Tell them where they can then find you and hopefully find the French vibe but picture in the future. Well, she's going to be mad at me again because my names are different. On Instagram is Abby. Thater Anderson 1 underscore and Twitter. It's singing Abby. Yes. And you are our phone screener. So if you call into the show, you can always hear her talk to her.
Starting point is 01:39:43 Call me. You know. Beat me if they want to reach me. Yeah, call me. Beat me if you want to reach me. Only zillineals are going to get that reference. Oh, oh my gosh. There might be some people too young to know this. Yeah, too young and too old.
Starting point is 01:39:57 Eddie wouldn't know that. Like, if we did elder versus millennial and that popped up, he'd be like, what is that? Oh, I was going to say, I want to tell Mike. Put that in the next one, but then, you know. That's cheating. It's okay. But no, it's a advantage.
Starting point is 01:40:08 I have a disadvantage with elder versus millennial that nobody really considered it. I was not alive for like 20 years of these questions. Exactly. I agree with you. I don't know half of the ones that you. That's why I lose often. Oh, man. And you guys can find me at Webgirl Morgan, all the things.
Starting point is 01:40:25 I have a video up on my Instagram right now where I pranked a bunch of the show members with skiing and a tree. So funny. I was not expecting that at all. Like I was so focused. I was like, this is not hard. I know I can draw a line down. And you did. You did good, but, you know, not enough to not hit a tree.
Starting point is 01:40:44 So definitely go watch that because it'll give you a good laugh. and there's a dance with lunchbox and I out there. I also just like reorganized my whole house. So I post some of those videos. There's a lot of videos. I've been trying to make some video content for all the people. It seems to be what everybody likes. Good.
Starting point is 01:40:59 We're rolling with it, you know? Keep them coming. You got to keep dancing too. I've been seeing you dancing. Oh yeah, I love doing. Those are fun. I know. You just got to do it.
Starting point is 01:41:06 I can't do the ones. Yours are complicated. I can only do like the... Do you think we can do it? Listen, when I posted the lunchbox and I video, I was like, I learned... I thought I went full out in that video and then I watched it back and I was like, wow, I stuck.
Starting point is 01:41:19 No, I thought you looked good. Oh, no, girl, girl, no, I felt like I was doing a lot better. You know when you like think like you're so good? And then you watch it, you're like, wow, I'm terrible. Yeah, that's how I feel often. But no, you should know because I thought it was good. Well, you keep dancing too. Okay.
Starting point is 01:41:36 So, yeah, at WebGour Morgan, all the things. And then, of course, the show at Bobby Bone Show. Like I said, check out some of the stuff at bobbybones.com. Some good things up there. And hit us up about our houses. Let us know which one you want to live in. And if you have any weird quirks like Abby and I do. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:52 We want to hear them. I don't really want to know what old is out there. Oh, man. All right. You all right. You all right. You all right weekend. Abby, thank you.
Starting point is 01:41:59 Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Love you. Yeah. Love all you people that listen. Thank you guys. Bye.
