Starting point is 00:03:05 The best bits of the week with Morgan. Part one. Behind the scenes with a member of the show. What's up, everybody? Happy weekend. Lunchbox is joining me for Turkey Weekend. What's up lunch? As you can tell, the turkey in my house lived.
Starting point is 00:03:23 I spared the turkey because I'm a good human. So I just went to the store and bought a turkey. I don't think that's how that works. No, no, I spared the turkey that was living in my backyard. And then... Do you actually have a turkey living in your backyard? No. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:37 But I did in a field, like last week, I was driving north of town. Mm-hmm. And I saw a turkey. And I saw like, 40 turkeys in a field. Yeah. And I'm like, guys, this is the time of year you guys need to be in hiding. Like, you need to be part of witness protection right now instead of out here in an open field. It was a bad look.
Starting point is 00:03:56 And I was like, oh, I said a prayer for him. Yeah. Did you have good Thanksgiving? Yeah. I mean, well, We're still kind of in it, you know. I feel like it always bleeds into the weekend. I know, but here we are on a Saturday, taking our time off.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Thank you for taking your time off on a holiday weekend. Yeah, I mean, you're probably supposed to be hanging out of your family and like making memories and... I am, you know, I'm taking my time too. Good. Yeah, but look at us. Hard workers. Hey, pat us on the back. No one's going to listen to this.
Starting point is 00:04:23 It's Thanksgiving weekend. Yeah, they will. Sometimes they got to get away from their family. You never got to get away from your family for like an hour? No. Ever? No. My family's legit.
Starting point is 00:04:33 I'm the same way, but some people do. I mean, the more family time, the better. Especially because they live in different states, so I never see them. So when I'm with them, it's like, oh, do I want to get away? No. Yeah, I'm the same way. Because then when they leave, it's like they're away for four months. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:49 That's the hard part. We have, gosh, my family's in town, all of them. We've got my boyfriend's family all in town. It's a big party going on. I don't want to, I'm not going to ask any questions. I'll let you. You can ask questions. What?
Starting point is 00:05:03 We'll talk about that later. You can ask questions. No, no, we'll talk about that later. Okay, well, tell me about your week. My week is, man, just rocking and rolling, you know. I mean, we just came back from Thanksgiving. We went to North Carolina. It's great, man.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Have you guys been doing that lately, like, the last few years? No, usually we've just been to stay in here. Like, we haven't gone anywhere. But my wife's aunt lives in, I think, yeah, it's North Carolina because she was a professor. East Carolina University. Okay. And so we went to North Carolina. Is it in the pretty area, the Blue Ridge Mountains?
Starting point is 00:05:41 Well, where we met was in the mountain, was in, like right outside of Asheville, because we weren't driving all the way to where East Carolina is. Supposedly it's on the other side of North Carolina. That'd taken a long, long time. Okay. And I wouldn't have it back for best bits. That's true. You wouldn't have it.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Yeah. But you did come back for this? I did. So you were in North Carolina and wife's family? Yeah, wife's family. Yeah. Does your family, do you ever combine both families? Never.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Never. Why not? That'd be weird. You think so? No. But, well, here's a deal. I don't know. I never even thought about it now that you say it, but I don't know if my in-laws could handle my parents for that long.
Starting point is 00:06:27 because my in-laws are more like rigid do this, do that, whereas my parents, my dad's putting kids on the roof, helping letting them hang Christmas light, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:38 like, so I think it would drive my father-in-law crazy. Okay. Which is, kind of makes sense because you and your wife are kind of that way. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Yes. So you guys make it work? We make it work, but, you know, I don't know. I mean, we've been together like
Starting point is 00:06:55 at dinner. Yeah, but never like a vacation. I never a holiday. I never even thought about that. Like, that's crazy. I know a lot of families that do it. But it really depends on if the in-laws get along to your point. No, they get along.
Starting point is 00:07:08 I just think that like my father-in-law, he used to be a lawyer. Yeah. Okay. So everything has like, he is very like, well, why is it that way? Why is it that way? Do we think we should be doing that? Like, let's look at the, and he wants to lay out the reasons. Like he's very thoughtful.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Like, and not saying my dad's not thoughtful, but my dad's just like, go do it. Woo! And we'll figure out what happens afterwards. And I think that would be crazy. But that would be a lot of people in one area. Yeah. Someone would have to get a hotel. I feel like you could find a really cool Airbnb that would hold all of you guys.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah, I don't even think about that. Because like, so what we do is we alternate. Like, so this year is Thanksgiving is my wife's family. Yep. So Christmas is my family. family. Okay. And next year, Thanksgiving would be my family and Christmas would be her family.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Gotcha. Okay. Because we tried it. I think the first year we were married. We did Thanksgiving and we flew to Houston. We're there for a day and a half, took a bus. From Houston to Austin. My dad picked us up at the bus stop and we spent a day and a half in Austin and then flew back.
Starting point is 00:08:23 And I was like, never again. It was so exhausting Because you I mean you got there And it was already over Like it wasn't like any quality time It was like so quick Yeah
Starting point is 00:08:32 I was like that was the dumbest thing We've ever done How far is Houston From Austin Two and a half hours So why did you use a bus Just you don't have a car Could have run in one I guess
Starting point is 00:08:44 That cost money A bus also cost money $15 A piece? Yeah It's called the mega bus I never heard of it So it was
Starting point is 00:08:53 I think it does it here from Memphis to Nashville to somewhere, like you can take the megabus. In Austin, it goes Houston, Austin, Dallas. Houston, Austin, like it makes that little triangle. Yeah. And it's like $10. Yeah. I mean, it makes sense.
Starting point is 00:09:10 It's cheaper. But I do feel like the rent-a-car would have been a more enjoyable experience, maybe. Oh, no, I just got on the megabus and fell asleep. Because, I mean, we had to be at the parking lot of this gas station where the megabus picked us up at like 6 a.m. That's funny. It was Black Friday when we got on the megabus. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:29 And then they dropped us off in an alley by the University of Texas. And my dad picked us up in the alley and we got in the car and went to their house. All of that sounds a lot, a bit sketchy. No, it's amazing. Like college students. No, it's cool that you have that. But like it definitely sounds sketchy that you got picked up out of gas at 6 a.m. and dropped off in an alley.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Yeah. Apparently, my wife, when she was in college at the University of Texas, she would go back. She didn't have a car, so she would ride the megabus home to Houston to see her family. Okay. And that's how I, I'd never heard of the megabus because I'd never used it. And it was like $15. Every time you say megabus, I think you're talking about like a mega church for some reason. Well, it felt like, I mean, it was like a double-decker almost.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Those are cool, though. That's a cool way of transportation. Yeah. But, yeah, I've heard it's very difficult to split time. Oh, yeah. And the four-day weekend or whatever it was to see both families in two different cities, two different flights and a megabus I mean
Starting point is 00:10:27 was it worth it? No But isn't it hard a little bit to change each year like your plans are changing every year? Yeah but like Thanksgiving we haven't done anything in like two or three years and Christmas we've been here for the last two or three Christmases we haven't gone anywhere if people want to come
Starting point is 00:10:43 they can come to us and it's like your specific designated family if they would like to come to you for that holiday. Yeah got it. So because my wife's like we need to have memories of the kids waking up in their own house on Christmas, and I get that, I get it. But it's okay, I feel like,
Starting point is 00:10:59 to have it at Grandma and Grandpa's ever once in a while because that's pretty exciting too. Yeah, I mean, Santa travels. Oh, yeah, he travels all around the world. Exactly. He has these things called reindeer, Rudolph and Donner and Blitzen and Comet. Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and...
Starting point is 00:11:16 I don't know the rest of them. I thought you were about to say vomit because that's the way the rhythm was working there. No, I think I named pretty much of them, but I don't know. You know, Dasher and dancer and comment and Vixen. Oh, I miss Vixen. Pantzor.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Did you say Prancer? No, I don't know. You threw it off my mojo. I definitely missed Vixen. I didn't even think about that. I was doing this with my boyfriend's niche. She has like a Christmas game. And I'll ask you all these different questions, like trivia about Christmas.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Yeah. And I had to sing that song a lot of times. So now I feel like I know the reindeer, but then I have to be in the rhythm. to remember it. It's very hard. It's something that as a kid, you knew them all. Now I've grown up and I'm like, man, I forget. But you know, everybody doesn't forget.
Starting point is 00:12:04 Rudolph, the red nose, reindeer, reindeer at a very shiny nose. So, yes, to your point, though, he can travel. So you feel like you can make Christmas wherever. I agree. But I get it. I also get the idea of having traditions because Christmas and holiday traditions in general are always really fun when they're like consistent. and the same and it's something they can expect and be excited about every year.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Yeah. So I get both. Yeah. So, I mean, that's what, yeah. Okay. Yeah. But yeah, the mega bus, man. Let me tell you, if you're going to traveling, look into the mega bus.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Let them do the driving for cheap. All right. I like it. I like this vibe. Well, yeah. No, things have been going really well for us over there. She's been a lot of family. Like we've taken over the house, mom and dad.
Starting point is 00:12:46 I got my sister and brother-in-law and they're almost three-month-old baby. I got a question. Did you babysit the kid by yourself? at any time? As of this moment, no. Oh. Well, that's not true. I took her on a walk.
Starting point is 00:12:59 We went by ourselves. That's not. For an hour. That's, eh. I'm talking like. For like multiple hours. Yeah. No, I mean, you know, like we're all doing stuff together.
Starting point is 00:13:08 So never really at any point was. Have you changed a diaper? Not yet. I have changed a diaper before. I haven't changed one of hers yet, though. Oh, come on. Because I haven't been by myself yet. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:18 You know? I'm just saying. Well, I mean, even when your sister's there, you know, hey, you take, you take, you take this one off, I'll get it. It's true. But so far, mom and dad are pretty hands-on, so they like to... I know, no, I understand, but hands-on is different than, man, that's really nice of you. Or you just say, hey, why don't you guys go get a cup of coffee together? Because I bet you they haven't been out by themselves since the baby was born. They've done a few. My parents have watched... Oh, that's right. They live where your parents are. Never mind. I forgot. And where his sister is.
Starting point is 00:13:47 I thought they were back in Denver and they're not. No, they're still in Wichita. I forgot. So they have had that. But they lived in Colorado, right? No. Wichita the whole time. His parents live in Colorado. That's what it. Okay. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:14:00 I was getting a good. I was like, wait a minute. I thought they were. Okay. That's it. Nope. Yeah. He was from Colorado.
Starting point is 00:14:06 That's it. And I got it backwards. Okay. Never mind. Hey, we'll edit that out. Edit that out. No, we're going to leave that in there. It's great.
Starting point is 00:14:14 But yeah, no. Well, when I took her on a walk, they got showers. So that was exciting for him. See, that's cool. That's a big deal for a new mom to take a shower. is pretty crazy. Yeah, and she, listen, we had a cry-it-out session. I was like, girlfriend, mom's busy right now.
Starting point is 00:14:27 I'm going to need you to cry this out, and we're going to fall asleep. We're going to walk. And we figured it out. Oh, she, the baby cried. I'd like your sister cried. No, no, baby Collins cried. Oh. Yeah, they cry, man.
Starting point is 00:14:38 That's what they do. Yeah. My sister has given them levels. We got like a level one. We got a level two and we got a level three. Level three is like atomic bomb. Okay. She's going off.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Level one and two, I'm there, but level three, I'm passing back off to mom and dad. Got it. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, okay. Yeah, it's been good. And we got lots of animals of the house. My parents brought their three dogs, the one dog that I fostered that they ended up adopting.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Oh, smoky. Grimlin. Ah, same difference. A.K.a, now. They renamed her. They didn't keep Grimlin. They didn't like Grimlin? No.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Oh, goodness. She still is a little Grimlin. So, yeah, it's been good. Lots of family time. I love having everybody in town. Yeah. But. They all stay at your house?
Starting point is 00:15:16 Not my family is. His family's kind of, his sister is here and has. more rooms. Oh, she has a house? Yeah, like suburban area. So his family's staying over there. It like collided that the everybody's in town at the same time. That's good planning.
Starting point is 00:15:32 Our original plan. Oh, really? No, yeah. Life just, you know, life happens. Life's going to be that way. Isn't that the song, Friends? Life is going to be that way. I don't know because every time you sing a song, it really throws off my rhythm.
Starting point is 00:15:47 No, come on. It really does. That was right on. I told you life. is gonna be this way. Right? I've heard that before. It takes me a minute to get there once you started though.
Starting point is 00:15:58 I'm not gonna lie. Thanks. It's the same with my dad. My dad's the same way. And every time he'll try and ask me about a song, I'm like, dude, I don't know where you're at. So I'm gonna need to just kind of rewind. Yeah, that's my, I mean, I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:16:12 And I don't know a lot of, I mean, I don't think I know a lot of songs. But when I hear some things, I'm like, oh, I've heard that somewhere. And I'm like, oh, let me. And I try to do it. And it's not. Never worked. never works. That's okay though. Okay. Well, I did prank my dad a lot like I mess with you sometimes in the videos.
Starting point is 00:16:28 I made him do it. Have you seen the trend where they, it's the horsey and you do like a really dramatic horse? You make them copy you and do like this crazy giddy up? No. Okay. Well, I made him do it. It was really funny. Okay. Can I tell you one that's stupid? Which one? And I don't know how I saw, like why I saw this, but. Yeah, you're never doing scrolling. I think I may have just went to post something on Instagram. And now Instagram puts people randomly, like, instead of it just being me, because I don't follow anybody. They put things up. And the video is like, oh, pretend that you're cheating on your husband.
Starting point is 00:17:04 And it's like they have a mannequin in the, they're, like they're making out in the driveway. And the husband pulls up in the truck and comes running out of the truck and tackles the mannequin. I'm like, that's so fake. Like, it's so stupid. I don't think I've seen these ones. It was like, it was. was so, like, absolutely dumb. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Like, no one comes running out of the truck like that instantly tackles. You know what I mean? Like, it was, like, so stupid. I also feel like I would recognize if something was a mannequin or they, like, really real life. I mean, they just had, like, a hoodie on, like, something and it's just sitting in the driveway. Okay, I guess if it's, you know, a little hidden. But, come on.
Starting point is 00:17:38 But I'm also not going to show up and tackle. I might, like, walk on and be like, hello? Like, what the heck's going on? I mean, without even saying a word. Yeah. They just run and tackle or kick or put and it's like, come on. Like, it's so stupid and so fake. And it was like a montage of it.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Like it wasn't even like just one, it was a someone made, I guess, a montage of people doing it. And I'm like, people actually believe this crap. Apparently, but dang. We have very different for you pages. I haven't seen this one. I, maybe it's because I. You don't have one. You have really have a curated one.
Starting point is 00:18:12 They have no idea what I like. And I literally. He said this man was like cheating and tackling. Right. And literally, I watched it for about 15 seconds. I saw three or four different people and I was like, this is so fake. And I wish, I don't even know how to pull that up. Yeah, no. Like, how would I...
Starting point is 00:18:25 You would have had to have liked it or saved it. Oh, really? Is that true? Dang it. Okay. Well, we're going to take a break. We'll be our back. There's two golden rules that any man should live by. Rule one, never mess with a country girl. You play stupid games. You get stupid prizes.
Starting point is 00:18:45 And rule two, never mess with a country girl. her friends either. We always say that trust your girlfriends. I'm Anna Sinfield and in this new season of the girlfriends, oh my God, this is the same man. A group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist. I felt like I got hit by a truck. I thought how could this happen to me? The cops didn't seem to care. So they take matters into their own hands. I said, oh hell no. I vowed. I will be his last target. He's going to get what he deserves. Listen to the girlfriends. Trust me, babe.
Starting point is 00:19:23 On the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Ego Vodam. My next guest, you know from Step Brothers Anchorman, Saturday Night Live, and the Big Money Players Network. It's Will Ferrell. My dad gave me the best advice ever. I went and had lunch with them one day, and I was like, and Dad, I think I want to really give this a shot. I don't know what that means, but I just know the groundlings. I'm working my way up through, and I know it's a place that come look for up and coming talent.
Starting point is 00:20:00 He said, if it was based solely on talent, I wouldn't worry about you, which is really sweet. Yeah. He goes, but there's so much luck involved. And he's like, just give it a shot. He goes, but if you ever reach a point where you're banging your head against the wall and it doesn't feel fun anymore, it's okay to quit. If you saw it written down, it would not be an inspiration. It would not be on a calendar. of, you know, the cat just hang in there.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Yeah, it would not be. Right, it wouldn't be that. There's a lot of luck. Listen to Thanks, Dad, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. In 2023, former bachelor star Clayton Eckerd found himself at the center of a paternity scandal. The family court hearings that followed revealed glaring inconsistencies in her story. This began a years-long court battle to prove the truth. You doctored this particular test twice in so much.
Starting point is 00:21:00 I doctored the test once. It took an army of internet detectives to crack the case. I wanted people to be able to see what their tax dollars were being used for. Sunlight's the greatest disinfected. They would uncover a disturbing pattern. Two more men who'd been through the same thing. Greg, a lesbian, Michael Marantini. My mind was blown.
Starting point is 00:21:19 I'm Stephanie Young. This is Love Trap. Laura, Scottsdale Police. As the season continues, Laura Owens finally faces consequences. Ladies and gentlemen, breaking news at Americopa County as Laura Owens has been indicted on fraud charges. This isn't over until justice is served in Arizona. Listen to Love Trapped podcast on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. If you are a founder or a freelancer or the friend who always says, hey, you know what, what if I started that?
Starting point is 00:21:53 This is for you. I'm telling you I had nothing to my name. I didn't know a single person in New York. And somehow I'm dressed by Oscar de Laurenta walking down that red carpet. This month, we sit down with entrepreneurs and creators who actually did it, who turned the scary leap into a business, a paycheck, and a life they are proud of. Direct center of our happiness or our regrets is whether or not we're taking action on the things that matter to us. They're not selfish.
Starting point is 00:22:19 They're so important. They actually lead to our greatest contributions because when we're living, fulfilled, we actually show up better everywhere. We lead better. We're better friends. We're better relationships and collaborators and all those things because we have passion about the things we're doing. If you're trying to build something of your own this year, join us in these conversations that will make you braver and smarter with your money.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Listen to Dos Amigos as part of the Michael Tutta Podcast Network available on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. You can have opinions. You can have like a strong stance and then there's your body having its own program. I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast, a slight change of plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans. We share stories and scientific insights to help us all better navigate these periods of turbulence and transformation. There is one finding that is consistent, and that is that our resilience rests on our relationship.
Starting point is 00:23:23 I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change. We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes. Listen to a slight change of plans on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I want to know some funny things your kids have said because let me paint this picture for you. I went on a Zoom and talked to a high school class in Tampa. It was a journalism class talking about digital media and stuff. and they all asked a lot of cool questions and it was super fun.
Starting point is 00:24:00 But one of the students asked me if I was a fake blonde. Really? And I was just like, the teacher immediately jumped in and be like, I'm so sorry. I'm like, honestly, it's fine. You can ask me that question. That's funny. But I was laughing because only like kids would, you know,
Starting point is 00:24:18 go to that frame of reference. I say kids even in high school. Like, I would have had that idea or question. They have random thoughts in their head that are just so like, Huh, that's what you got? Like, that's really weird. Yeah, and they're curious. Like, I'm not going to shut down the curiosity.
Starting point is 00:24:31 And I also think it's funny to answer all kinds of questions. So it was funny, but it, like, threw me off a little bit. And so I just want to know, like, kids say the craziest things. You know, they used to have that show, right? Yeah. Kids say the darndest things. Yeah. What about your kids?
Starting point is 00:24:46 My middle child, he always says, Dad, because we read it in a book. And it was about an old and rickety bridge that was about to fall apart. and he was like, Dad, you're like that bridge. He goes, you're old and Ricky and about to fall apart. And I don't know how he was smart enough to take that and be like, wow, that's like my dad. You know what I mean? Because I'm older than him, so he thinks I'm old and rickety and about to fall apart. And he says it all the time now.
Starting point is 00:25:18 Really? All the time. Is this the oldest? Middle. Oh, wow. And he said it. And he didn't say it in that moment. Like he read it, we read it and the next day he goes, dad, you're like that bridge, you're old and Ricky about to fall apart.
Starting point is 00:25:31 And I was just like, wow. Nothing like coming out of nowhere at you too. Yeah. You weren't even expecting that. It was hilarious. And then the other one was my oldest asked me, dad, did you ever see a dinosaur? Like, he wants to know, dad. Like, did you see dinosaurs when you were a kid?
Starting point is 00:25:54 Did you respond and say, yeah, you know, son? I saw T-Rex one day. No, I'm just like, I'm not that old. I'm not that old. I wonder what your response was. Like, do you immediately try and say, hey, let me paint a better picture of this? I laughed and I'm like, what? You think I'm that old?
Starting point is 00:26:13 And he goes, I don't know. I mean, and I should have gone with it. It had been really funny, but I was laughing so hard. I was like, no. Do you know old dinosaurs or not? Just thinking in my head, like, that's just a crazy. statement, but I should have probably said, yeah, I used to have one as a pet. Yeah, but you know then.
Starting point is 00:26:31 He would have gone back to school. Exactly. And told all his friends and his friends would be like, you're so dumb. Like, the, that's another problem is if you tell him, then he goes and tells his friends. And it's like, it's crazy. Is that telephone thing very real with kids? It's so real because the other day they had the book fair, right? The Scholastic Book Fair?
Starting point is 00:26:50 Yep. Where you get free pizza? Do they still do that? I don't know anything about free pizza. Or free bookmarks? You may get free bookmarks, but you go to the book fair and you buy books and stuff. Yeah, but remember if you like read a bunch of, I don't know, I can't remember exactly what it was. But if you read a bunch of things, then you'd get a free pizza.
Starting point is 00:27:07 No, I wouldn't a nerd. I didn't get that. It was free pizza. I didn't get that. I'm just telling you, I don't think we had that at our school. I just honestly do not remember them offering us free pizza. I remember you could spend your money and buy some books. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:20 But I don't remember anything about free pizza. Yeah, you got free pizza if you read. and I think it always fell around the same time as this classic book fair. I'm just shocked you didn't like try and fake your way through it and get free pizza. Well, if they would offer free pizza, maybe I ought to read. I don't think they did down in Austin, Texas. If I'm wrong, hit me up. I would like to know.
Starting point is 00:27:40 But anyway, what was I saying? You're talking about the kids. Oh, the things they say. Oh, telephone. Yeah, so the book fair. See, this is Pizza Hut Booket program. Booket is a free. Is it in Austin?
Starting point is 00:27:54 It was everywhere. It was a national campaign. It was book it as a free reading program for pre-K to sixth grade. Homeschool teachers can also track up to five readers and one pizza certificate per child per month is earned. Yeah, that may have been passing. When did it start? Oh, it was when I, I mean. But yeah, you were in the 2000s, okay?
Starting point is 00:28:11 That's a lot. Let's see. I was in the 80s. When did it start? I don't know. Oh, 40 years ago today. Oh. It started in 1984.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Wow. So it was around when I, but I mean, I guess I never did it. I don't know. That's lame. Sorry. No, I wanted a nerd. So my son comes home and goes, Dad, Dad, you'll never believe what happened. I'm like, what?
Starting point is 00:28:35 He goes, Mike had $1,000 for the book fair. I'm assuming Mike is another kid. Yeah, and I'm like, he didn't have a thousand. He goes, no, he told me that he had $1,000. And then my oldest time was in, and he goes, well, I heard Mike had $100 for the the book fair. And I said, neither one of that happened. Neither one of them. A, he didn't have a thousand and he didn't have a hundred.
Starting point is 00:29:02 I'm pretty sure he did. I mean, one kid was sold a thousand. One kid stole a hundred. So they heard two different totals. So there's telephone right there for the same kid. Did you ever find out what Mike had? No. How much money do you send them with for Scholastic Buffer? Here's the deal. This is how we find out what happens in lunchbox.
Starting point is 00:29:24 dad world. I send $20. For both? No, for each. Okay. Because last year I sent $20 a baby box one because he was in kindergarten. And he came back. He bought a book and he came back with $15 and 42 cents. Okay. And I was like, bud, why didn't you buy more? He goes, well, I didn't know I could. You just said buy a book. So I bought one book. So I bought one book. He's really good at going buy the book. He is Tu-a-T rule follower. Everything is very literal. Yeah. And I was like, you can, you can spend it all. That's your wife. Yeah. And so he's like, okay. And he came back and he bought another book.
Starting point is 00:30:12 He goes, Dad, they gave me more change. I was like, you can spend it. So then he went every single day to the book fair and bought something every day. And then he came home on the last day with $3. and something, and I was like, he was like, can I keep this, dad? I said, yeah, you can keep it. He goes, good. Because I kept, I saved three dollars so I could give one for me and one to each of my brothers.
Starting point is 00:30:37 That's so sweet. And I'm like, oh my gosh, you're so cool. You're so smart. Then this year, he spent the $20 and he wanted more money. He figured it out last year. Yeah, exactly. He spent $20 on the first day and was like, dad, I need more money. I'm like, eh, eh, eh.
Starting point is 00:30:54 But, dad, there's so much more I want. And I'm like, I'm sorry. This is where you learn that you have a total amount of money and you get to spend that amount of money. You want something else than that? You've got to decide which is more important, this book or this book? Sorry. How did he take that?
Starting point is 00:31:12 Oh, he threw a fit. Yeah. Through a fit. What about baby, I'm assuming baby box too also? Yeah, he went this year and he bought one book. And he's like, dad, I didn't know how to do it. I was kind of crazy. It was going to take me too much time to spend all this money.
Starting point is 00:31:27 I had to get back to class. Can you think about the patients of whoever's checking out all these kids at the Scholastic Bookfare? I can't. I can't even imagine how hard it is. They're just sitting there like taking money from kids, which probably already feels weird. But then the kids are like asking questions and this is not their parent. How much is this one?
Starting point is 00:31:46 How much can I get this one? I mean, you have to sit there with every kid and go over how much they have. How much it's going to cost? Oh my gosh. We need to test the patience of the specific people who do that. Yeah. I feel like they're the patience of a saint. For sure.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Or I'm telling you, if you ever want to learn if someone is going to be paid, if you, if you have a job that you're hiring for that needs patience, take the applicant fishing with some kids. Okay. This is oddly specific, but I like it. And you will find out if they have patience or no patience. That's a fair point. Because we go fishing and my dad's there and all the grandkids. And I mean, the amount of lines that get tangled and my dad just sits there, okay, here I'll fix it.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Where I'm like, I screw it. I'm done. Like, no, you're out. Like, I mean, we've done it twice. You tangled again. I'm done. Like, it takes so much patience to go fishing with freaking kids because they get their poles stuck on the tree and around the dock.
Starting point is 00:32:49 And I mean, on the rocks. It's unbelievable. Maybe it's the thing of the older generation because my dad used to take us all the time and he never. I mean, he had two daughters. I didn't like touching fish. So every time I caught one, dad had to do with whatever it was on it. I also didn't want to put the worm on the hook. So he also had to do that.
Starting point is 00:33:06 I was really just cast in the line. And he took us out there all the time to go fishing. Yeah. So, and he loved it. It would be like the next weekend. He's like, you guys want to go fishing again? He loved it. Maybe it's just, you know, with screens and everything.
Starting point is 00:33:20 We've lost a little bit more patience. No, no, no. I've just never had my whole life. I've never had patience. I'm not a patient person. Even with your kids haven't started to teach you a little bit more patience? I've tried. And I'll yell at them sometimes.
Starting point is 00:33:34 I'm like, ah, sorry, guys. I'm working on my patience. I'm working on it. I'm working on it. It is one of the toughest things to work on. It is so hard to be patient. Like, I'm going to tell you, you know what drives me nuts? Can I cough?
Starting point is 00:33:47 Thank you for letting me do that. my patience just in general is so bad but it's like I hate like my wife likes to lollygag and I can't stay in lollygagging. Lolliggging in what capacity? Like if we're going somewhere, she wants, but on a Saturday morning, if we're going to go somewhere, it's not a set time per se, but. It's like, okay, she'll wake up. And I'm like, all right, let's just go to wherever we're going.
Starting point is 00:34:26 She's like, well, I want to have a cup of coffee. And she wants to sit there. And she wants to enjoy the morning quiet and sit there. And it just, I'm like, well, why are we wasting an hour sitting here? Like, you can bring your coffee to go. Just put it in a cup and let's go. Like, my patience for that is unbelievably low. Like, it drives me insane.
Starting point is 00:34:50 like to be on the go. You like to be doing stuff. If we're going somewhere, why are we going to waste an hour sitting here drinking a cup of coffee? Like, put your coffee in a cup, get in the car, let's go. Do you feel like maybe you had kiddos so you could keep your life just kind of moving and chaotic all the time? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:09 Because what if you didn't have kids, right? You wouldn't have that urge to leave all the time. I don't know. I feel like I've always, like even when I go on vacation, I'm not good at relaxing. Yeah. I understand that. I'm not either. I'm just not good at it. And I think that's part of my impatience. Mm-hmm. But have you ever, like, you like to go and get massages? Oh, yeah, I fall asleep.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Maybe every time you relaxes that you fall asleep. That's it. But when I sit down, like when I'm done, like when I'm, I fall asleep. Yeah. Because I want to go, go, go, go, go, go. And then when it's relaxed time, you crash. I crash. So you don't even know what relaxing time is because you're asleep most of the time. That's a funny test for you. Yeah, like the massages, it's like, oh, you pay this money for a massage and they feel amazing.
Starting point is 00:35:59 But then I feel like I cheated myself because I just go to sleep most of the time. And you don't even feel what's happening? Right. That does. It feels kind of like a waste of money, honestly. It does. It does, right? Like, it's like, oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Like, I have all these knots in my back and they're getting them out, but I can't tell because I'm out. That's funny. I'm drooling all over the floor. It's true. You're very much a ghost. go, go, go. But you also don't have like ADHD or anything. No. And I mean, yeah, I mean, I don't know. I think. Because you can concentrate and you can. I think a lot of people don't have, no, I'm not going to say this. I'm not going to say it because it's going to get people fired up. It's going to get fired up. Like, there's no point. It's a Saturday. It's Thanksgiving weekend. I'm just thankful for everybody listening. We don't need to work on some patience. I do have to work on patience. I do. I literally had to work on.
Starting point is 00:36:50 patience because I don't know. It's so hard. Deep breath in the moment. It is so hard. It is hard. It's hard. I'm not going to discount that because it's hard having patience. Trust me, I get it.
Starting point is 00:37:02 I'm also somebody who likes me on the go. I also like to stack my schedule so I'm always busy. Yeah. So I get it. My wife's like, we don't have to go somewhere every Saturday. And I'm like, I know, but can we like go to the park? I love how much YouTuber opposites. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:17 Truly. In a lot of ways. Like she wants to go. on vacation, just lay at the beach. I'm like, this is the most boring thing I've ever done in my life. I have a follow-up question, but we're going to take a break. We're coming back. Yeah, we'll take a break. Right back. There's two golden rules that any man should live by. Rule one, never mess with a country girl. You play stupid games, you get stupid prizes. And rule two, never mess with her friends either.
Starting point is 00:37:44 We always say that trust your girlfriends. I'm Anna Sinfield. And in this new season of the girlfriends, oh my God, this is a good. the same man. A group of women discover they've all dated the same prolific con artist. I felt like I got hit by a truck. I thought, how could this happen to me?
Starting point is 00:38:02 The cops didn't seem to care. So they take matters into their own hands. They said, oh hell no. I vowed. I will be his last target. He's going to get what he deserves. Listen to the girlfriends. Trust me, babe.

I went and had lunch with them one day, and I was like, and dad, I think I want to really give this a shot.
Starting point is 00:38:50 I don't know what that means, but I just know the groundlings. I'm working my way up through, and I know it's a place they come look for up-and-coming talent. He said, if it was based solely on talent, I wouldn't worry about you. which is really sweet. Yeah. He goes, but there's so much luck involved. And he's like, just give it a shot. He goes, but if you ever reach a point where you're banging your head against the wall
Starting point is 00:39:11 and it doesn't feel fun anymore, it's okay to quit. If you saw it written down, it would not be an inspiration. It would not be on a calendar of, you know, the cat. Just hang in there. Yeah, it would not be. Right, it wouldn't be that. There's a lot of luck. Listen to Thanks, Dad, on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.

You doctored this particular test twice in someone, correct? I doctored the test ones. It took an army of internet detectives to crack the case. I wanted people to be able to see what their tax dollars were being used for. Sunlight's the greatest disinfected.

But at first, it was just like, you got to go get a real job. There's an economic component to communities thriving.
Starting point is 00:42:23 If there's not enough money and entrepreneurship happening in communities, they fail. And what I mean by fell is they don't have money to pay for food. They cannot feed their kids. They do not have homes. Communities don't work unless there's money flowing through them. Listen to Eating While Broke from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. In what ways are you and your wife similar? Because we're noting some differences here.
Starting point is 00:42:53 That's a great question. I have no idea. Really? I mean, you both obviously love kids. You're both good parents. Like, so there's some of that. Are we both good parents? Who knows?
Starting point is 00:43:05 I would like to think so. In 10 years, our kids could be like the most messed up kids ever because the way we do it. I think that happens with everyone. So maybe we're bad parents. Okay. As of right now, you know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? I have no idea what makes a good parent.
Starting point is 00:43:19 What's a good man? I mean, I guess. I think you love, you both love your kids. We see our kids. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I was trying to help kickstart you, you know?
Starting point is 00:43:27 Yeah. What are we similar? Do you have similar likes or interests in things? I don't know what you mean. Things that you're interested in potential hobbies, do you both like going for walks? Do you both like heading to the same vacation type spots? Vacation is tough.
Starting point is 00:43:45 Okay. Because she would prefer to lay on a beach and do nothing. Yeah. Because she feels like we do stuff all the time, busy with the kids. Whereas me, going and laying on. the beach, it feels like a waste of a vacation. Okay.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Then she wants to walk around an old city or a city. Me, walk around a city, eh, kind of lame. I'd rather go do like adventures. Like climb a mountain or ATV in the, you know, wherever in the outback or, you know, something like that.
Starting point is 00:44:18 Okay. So I'm sensing a lot of compromise between you guys. Yeah. So that's a little interesting because it's like, ah, it's different. Uh, mm-mm. All I'm hearing is more differences. We need to find similarities.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Yeah, yeah. I'm trying to think of similarities. Like, what did you guys bond over when you had first started dating? I don't know. Because it's not like you went straight to having kids as soon as you got together. Right. I mean, that's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:44:45 So what did you both like doing? Because obviously there was a reason you guys liked each other and started hanging out and spending more time together. What did you guys do? No, literally, I don't know. Like, I don't know. Did you black out when you guys were? For certain dating, do you not remember this time of your life? No, no, but like, when you say, like, hobbies, like, I play co-ed soccer.
Starting point is 00:45:05 She doesn't play. I play golf. She doesn't play. You know what I mean? But we still. Do you guys both like watching movies? Do you? No, she doesn't watch movies.
Starting point is 00:45:15 And the reason she doesn't watch movies is because they make her feel. And she doesn't want to feel anything. So what did you guys do when you hung out together? Oh, man. I don't know. Did you drink? Like you like to drink together? We did used to drink together.
Starting point is 00:45:30 We used to go to the movie. I mean, we used to go to the movie. You know what I mean? We used to do different things. But as she's gotten older, she was like, there's too much sadness. And so she doesn't want to watch a movie and feel. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:41 Feelings are hard. And so that's why it's like Tuesday or a Tuesday. What'd you watch? Nothing. Because I can't watch anything because it makes her feel. Okay. But do you guys still like go and have a drink together? occasionally.
Starting point is 00:45:58 I woke out the dinner every once a while. You're a foodie. Is she a foodie? Oh, she's for sure a foodie. Okay. There's something. We found a similarity. I wasn't until Ryan made me become a food.
Starting point is 00:46:08 It's all Ryan's fault. I'm going to tell you that right now. Your friend, Ryan. Yeah. Like, he is the one like, we've got to get you at different restaurants. And I am never tasted. Like, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:46:20 Brought in the palate. Brought in the palate. And I was just like, wow, that's crazy. Like, when I first started dating my wife, I didn't know what hummus was And she introduced you to hummus Yes We went to a Greek restaurant in Houston
Starting point is 00:46:32 And I was like, dang, that's really good Okay I had never heard of hummus in my life Still funny I was I'm in my 20s and didn't know what hummus was Had never heard of the thing Were you also a big chain eater
Starting point is 00:46:48 I feel like it's a consequence Kind of where you're around Oh yeah yeah yeah Yeah because I grew up eating a lot of chain restaurants So until I really moved to Nashville, I didn't have the full. Yeah. And you got to understand, like, growing up, we didn't go to, we didn't go out to eat. When we went out to eat, it was Wendy's, it was McDonald's, Taco Bell, Pizza.
Starting point is 00:47:07 Yeah. Like, my dad, love you, dad. He loved pizza so much. And we always had sporting events, me and my brother and my sister, every night of the week. So the last time, we stopped eating dinner as a family probably in fifth grade at the table. We were the same way. We never really had dinners at a table. Right.
Starting point is 00:47:27 So my dad would order pizza two times a week. Okay. From my pizza hat, Papa John's. Mr. Gaddy's 4-5-9-22-22. Get him Mr. Gaddy's pizza delivered to you. Is this the Texas pizza? Yeah. So good.
Starting point is 00:47:42 That in college, I didn't eat pizza. That's fair. You had it so much of your life. Yes. You're ready for other things. And so when people, like the college food was pizza, was pizza. Yeah. I didn't eat it. But in the dorms, I feel like you had the kind of a buffet style. Yeah, but I'm just saying like, even like parties, you know, late night part, late night food.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Oh, let's get pizza. I'm like, I'm out. Not eating it. Did you order like McDonald's to your dorm or something? No, we didn't have, we didn't have delivery back then. Yeah, but some places still delivered in college town. No, no, McDonald's didn't deliver. Like, we didn't have Uber eats. I guess that's true. I don't know that we did either. Yeah, that was not that we, there was none of that. We had delivery drivers. So I Delivery drivers. Like when I went to Jason's deli, delivery driver, but they closed at like 5 o'clock, 6 o'clock, whatever. I think we had a few late night delivery drivers.
Starting point is 00:48:31 Okay, there you go. But so back to my wife and I being similar. Yeah, we got a lot of similarities. We found one. Yeah. It's the fact that you guys are both foodies. Yeah, I mean. I'm going to need you to think on this.
Starting point is 00:48:44 And next time you're on best bits, we're going to come back to this. And somebody remind me. I literally just don't know. Well, now I want you to talk to her about it. I'm so curious her thoughts also. just for you guys collectively. Well, she'll be like, oh, we both have, we both love our family. I mean.
Starting point is 00:48:58 But that's fine. That is a similarity. But that's obvious. But I want you guys to dig deeper than that. So, I mean, that's a similarity, but it's like, it's obvious. Like, I love sports. She's like whatever about sports. You both like reality TV?
Starting point is 00:49:12 Yeah. There's that, right? Yeah. Okay. So we got reality TV and foodies. Okay. That's it, huh? I think she still likes movies.
Starting point is 00:49:22 Dang. This marriage is going to work out pretty well, huh? Holy crap. It's working, you know? I don't know what other people would say, like, what they have similar similarities. Like, I have no idea. Well, I think it also speaks to the evolution of relationships, too, right? Because when you guys first started dating is a lot different.
Starting point is 00:49:39 You were doing a bunch of stuff. Yeah, now it's like, we just, it's really based around the kids and doing stuff with them. If you guys go on a date night now, what do you do? probably go to dinner and go home Okay, so there's the foodie aspect Yeah I mean like she loves music Okay, live music
Starting point is 00:49:59 But you don't really I was like That's fun because you work in music But you don't really Listen to music So yeah there's that I've taught her how to gamble She does like to gamble
Starting point is 00:50:12 Like when we go to like Vegas Yeah you both love Vegas But she doesn't love as much as me Like she'll like bet $10 You know I'm like all right this fun Oh she's more like like tolerant of what she enjoys like she likes the atmosphere and the sitting at the table and having
Starting point is 00:50:26 a drink and you know the like interaction of people and things like that and okay i'd say she likes Vegas then yeah so we got Vegas foodie and your kids is one oh and uh then porn okay that was a joke that was a horrible joke your poor wife your poor wife okay speaking of I'm telling you, please do this exercise. I really want to know, like, your wife's thoughts on this. Okay. You want to text her? No, because it's not right now.
Starting point is 00:50:58 Okay. You know, she's doing stuff. Yeah. But I'll have a listener remind me and we'll come back to Best Bits. And I also, I want to know, because I found this on Amazon, I need to know if it's a cool gift idea for a dude. Do you ever spend time outside, like working on things or doing stuff for the house or whatever? Well, it depends what you're working on. Like, I fixed the fence a couple weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Yeah. I had to replace pickets because my dog. he's breaking him, but yeah, what do you got? Okay, well, they make these portable TVs that have a speaker on it. You know how they have portable speakers? They kind of have that, but with a little TV where you can watch a game on. So if you're working outside, you can watch a game on this cool little portable TV. Is that a cool gift idea?
Starting point is 00:51:37 Or is that like, hey, do some more projects because here's your thing that you can watch on. That's a catch-22. I know. So that I want a guys take on this. It's a catch-22. Because if you're working on something, you can't really watch the TV. True. But like, say you're working on.
Starting point is 00:51:59 I would say an outdoor radio. Like, I mean, I'd rather, because if he's outside working on something, he can probably just pull up the Steelers broadcast on his phone. And that's what he does, but this has a little bit bigger of a screen. You know? It's like a laptop screen. He doesn't watch it, does he? I think sometimes he'll check in. Like, he'll be working on something.
Starting point is 00:52:18 He'll check in see what's going on and then go back to work. You know what I mean? Yeah. But he also, mind you, he would never do that during a Steelers game. I don't, I do not force him to do anything during a Steelers game. That's our compromise. He gets to watch that full-fledged. It's more other games.
Starting point is 00:52:31 Hey, can you ask him what happened last weekend to the Steelers? I would like to know that every time I watch a game. No, no, can you ask him like what happened to the Steelers last weekend? Can you just text him real quick? I agree. They did really good. And then they kind of sucked this week. So.
Starting point is 00:52:43 Yeah, can you ask him? Can you ask him? Also, Aaron Rogers. I feel like he's up and down a lot, you know? No, but he didn't play this last weekend because he actually. I got injured. But yeah, so I'm saying,
Starting point is 00:52:53 just ask your boyfriend. Hey, who'd they lose to? Ask them. Well, I feel like I, I remember the colors they lost to. I just ask them.
Starting point is 00:53:01 I know they lost to your bears. Thank you. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you. I couldn't tell what you were trying to get that. That's all I wanted. That's all I wanted.
Starting point is 00:53:08 I know what you're talking about. Yeah, I don't think a TV, a little TV is a good gift because literally if you're doing a project, you don't have time to watch it. You listen to it. That's true.
Starting point is 00:53:20 And maybe that's what he's doing and it's just on the little screen because that's how you have to listen to it. There's a screen? On his phone. I just mean like you have to play the game. He just pulled up the Steelers play by play the radio station that plays the No, he puts the game on his phone.
Starting point is 00:53:35 Oh. They're like checking on it. But it's not, again, it's not that one. It's like other games that he's watching for fantasy. Okay. Yeah, I don't know, man. I guess I don't watch TV on my phone. That's true.
Starting point is 00:53:49 You also don't know that that exists. I recently taught you that. And I just don't like, I don't get it. Like, I love football. Yeah. I love sports. But if I'm outside and I got it playing like the audio, it's fine by me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:06 Like you can hear the audio. Because I mean, if you're watching it, are you really doing what you're supposed to be doing? I mean, he gets everything done. Well, I can't, okay. So maybe maybe he wants a big screen. So you can sit outside and watch it while he's hammering in something. I don't know. No, this is a good perspective.
Starting point is 00:54:22 This is why I was like, that looks cool, but I'm just realistically. Yeah, realistically, I think an audio, but you don't even need a portable radio now because you have your phone, right? He can pull up the Steelers broadcast on his phone and he doesn't need a radio. Yeah. Okay. I thought it just looked cool. Amazon got me, you know, when you see something cool. No, everything.
Starting point is 00:54:42 They make things look cool and it's like, is it really practical? And that's why I was asking. I don't think it is, but maybe I'm just the right guy and I am. No, it's okay. If other guys out there and you're like, no, definitely get that. Let me know. I want to end this on a shoutout. So I had a listener write me and I'm not sure of their name, but I know their Instagram is two of a kind.
