How do you know that Claude won't become manipulative?
This is a constant worry.
And you can actually catch the model thinking, I think X is actually true.
but I'm going to tell the user why.
I'm Walter Isaacson.
On my new podcast, The Builders,
I'm going inside the minds of the people
shaping our future.

It's all just a joke.
What is the value of these women?
I'm Bridget Armstrong,
back with season two of the podcast,
Curse of Miss America.
We're talking to participants, whistleblowers,
and people who say Miss America
didn't live up.
to their promises.
He looks at me and goes,
you don't look like you suffered

I never received scholarship

Maybe this is the meta question
for the podcast.
What is Miss America at this point?

It's really funny in a good time.
Really?
Yeah, yeah.
I think statistics just came back

with mics and that's pretty hard to beat right now, but it's true actually.
Why should people listen to us? Tell them. Well, we're trendy, we're funny, we're topical.

Patra Mathers and her husband Michael mailed letters to dozens of friends and family members
to let them know they had died.
by suicide.
Dear honeys, this is goodbye.
By the time you get the Schleader, both Petra and I will be dead.
Next stop, Wonderland.
Why did they do it?
And what did it do to the people they left behind?
Listen to Death of an Artist on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Okay, welcome to the show.
This week, we have two artists battling it out.
Luke Bryan and Jason Aldine.
That's right.
Last week, if you missed the episode, it was Brooks and Dund.
and Alan Jackson.
Fun fact about that one,
my wife got a text from Ronnie's wife.
Oh.
Ronnie Dunn's wife.
And she said,
Ronnie was watching Bobby talk about him on Netflix today.
He was watching the fight.
So I guess he saw it on Instagram that we did it.
And then I saw him reposted in a story.
And then I guess he went to Netflix to watch it.
Dude,
I would love to just be a fly on the wall watching him watch that.
So, yeah, Ronnie's wife.
text Caitlin and was like, I'm watching Ronnie.
That's so cool.
Watched them talking about that.
So luckily they won.
Yeah, luckily.
Like you can go watch this.
He throws something at the TV.
All right.
So we have two artists.
They're going to battle it out.
And here's exactly how this works.
I do not match the songs up against each other.
I literally search, give me the top 10 songs from each artist based on streams,
based on sales, based on cultural significance, list them one through 10.
And I do one versus one, two versus two, all the way.
down. At the end, we see who wins. Past winners have been Garth Brooks over George Strait, barely.
Brooks and Dunn over Alan Jackson, barely. Tim McGraw over Kenny Chesney, barely. Barely. They've all been
close. So let's go Luke Bryan v. Jason Aldeen. Let's welcome everybody to the show here.
Singer, songwriter, musician, producer. You've probably heard so many of his songs and even
television commercials or Madden football or NCAA tournament championship.
That's not you. It's Brandon Ray.
Oh, okay, right. Okay. Brandon.
Also, Eddie's here.
It's not funny.
Yeah. And I'm Bobby. So, you guys ready to go?
Yeah. Number one, Luke Bryan, drink a beer.
Versus Jason Aldeen, dirt road anthem.
Now, as always, Eddie, you'll go first.
These two are stylistically so different.
Very different.
Luke Brian Drink a Beer, Jason Aldine, Dirt Road Anthem.
So when I think about drink a beer, written by Chris Stapleton, sung by Luke Brian,
Luke had just lost someone or had lost someone in his life around the time that came out.
So there was all this like, that hits hard.
Very emotional song about losing someone.
But then Jason Aldean, man, he raps.
Like about chilling on a dirt road.
The boys in blue.
Like, I love that song.
A lot of people do.
I'm going to go Jason Aldeen, dirt road anthem.
You took us down like a sad Luke Bryan story and just flipped it to Al Dean.
Because Al Dean, dude, that song is so like, is that, um, what's it?
It's Brantley Gilbert and Colt Ford.
And Colt Ford, yeah.
They originally did it.
that song's awesome jason did it and then ludicrous came out and did it with them a bit too maybe they
recorded a version of it to try to go pop radio wow and then i know ludicrous came out at an award show and
did it as well yeah that's cool uh brandon as as as revolutionary as dirt road anthem was i'm gonna go
drink a beer drink a beer is a top three luke brian song for me oh not even about the sad
personal part of it because again he didn't write it uh but uh i i
I just love drink a beer, so I'm going to pick that one.
But you don't drink beers.
The purpose of that is just finding a spot and just taking in life.
Okay.
And feeling whatever you're feeling.
Yeah, I get it.
How often have you been driving down in dirt road, though?
A lot in high school.
Exactly.
No smoke coming out the window.
No beer on the console.
Okay, Luke Brian won, Jason Aldeen, zero.
Dang.
it again play it again play it again Jason Aldine you make it easy
loving up on you so play it again versus you make it easy Brandon you'll go first this time
this is a tough one do we have to pick one I'm just kidding yes Brandon I'm joking God
I was I play it again I think I'm gonna go you make it easy Jason Aldine what makes it easier
for me is that they're both tempo
it's the same type
of song. It's easier for me to pick one when they're
similar type songs.
I'm going to go Jason Aldeen, you make it easy. And maybe
that's because I think I was in Nashville when that
song came out and possibly
played again came out before we got here.
I'm not sure. If not
before we got here, right around the time we got here.
So I'll go, you make it easy.
Let me look when that came out. Go ahead.
So you're right.
2013, right when we got here.
Yeah.
So you're right, though, that tempo is about the same, same kind of song, you know?
Play it again always kind of bothered me a little bit just because, like, he's talking to the radio.
Like, play it again. Dude, just stream it.
Well, 2013, streaming wasn't quite what it is.
You mean download it on iTunes?
Something, man. You can just hit back.
Or call the radio station.
And you're Luke Bryan. You probably know the guy playing the song.
But mostly it's about life, too.
Like, let's do this life moment together again.
I know.
But there was something about that song.
I was just never like.
just drawn to.
And you take it easy.
I never got to do this,
but I figure like if you're at a bar
and that song comes on
and you've been trying to ask a girl to dance
and you didn't know what the right time to,
I always felt like that song
was the perfect time to be like,
would you like to dance with me?
You've thought about that?
Yeah.
Being a married man for that long?
Not that.
It's just like...
You're talking about dancing women at a bar.
But back in the day before I was married,
dude, that was the best.
But that song wasn't out then.
I understand.
But that's every time I hear that song,
I'm like, that's a good dancing song.
You think about the good old days.
No, you're putting words in my mouth.
Okay, so we got Aldine on that one.
Yeah.
One to one.
Luke Bryan,
because I'm a little drunk on you
and I on summertime.
Drunk on you.
Or Jason Aldine.
She's country.
What a dab on dudes and which is all do.
She's country.
Dude, this is crazy.
Luke Bryan, drunk on you.
Jason Aldine, she's country.
You're first, right?
Oh, it is me.
It's tough.
I think I'm going to go, she's country.
Why?
I think he just hits harder.
I think just...
Which one are you doing?
That's it, right?
She's country?
Yeah.
That's how that one starts?
Yeah, yeah, because he says,
Lunatic from Brownsley.
That's that one, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, I think I've played that one
in, like, the dance party so many times.
She's a bad mammajama.
From South Alabama?
Is that that one?
Yeah, dude.
I'm going to go, Jason Aldeen, she's country.
That's the only reason.
I don't know.
I just am going by visceral reaction
to thinking about those songs.
She's country.
I too am going, she's country.
That song, those lyrics is the lunatic from Brunswick.
She's a bad man, a jam.
Like, cheesy?
Yes.
You're easily impressed.
Cheesy?
Yes.
Very cheesy.
But, dude, I love it.
Like, it puts a smile on my face
when I hear those lyrics.
Brandon?
Biggest thing about that song
is the breakdown riff in the middle
of the bur-da-da-da-da-da-da-ber.
That was awesome.
That was shortly after I moved to Nashville
when the song came out
and I'd be driving to the Cheesecake Factory to work
and that song come on by like, woo!
Yeah!
You're working cheesecake factory?
Yeah.
For how long?
A whole year.
Did you know that?
I had no idea.
You need to put that in the bio.
For sure.
You just want his bio to be less significant?
because I mean, it's any job you have.
I respect it, but he's talking music here
and you want other things that aren't music.
You could say Cheesecake Factory server.
She's a hot little number and a pickup truck.
Let's look at some lyrics here.
Yes.
She's a hot little number and a pickup truck.
Daddy sweet money done jacked it up.
Come on.
She's a party all nighter from South Carolina,
a bad mamma jammer from down in Alabama.
Okay, so I messed out.
The other one's Dirk's Bentley.
The hammer, Alabama.
10-pound hammer.
Yeah.
So I messed up my Alabama.
I get that reference.
She's a party all-nighter from South Carolina,
a bad mamma-jama from down in Alabama.
She's a raging, Cajun, a lunatic from Brunswick.
Juicy Georgia Peach with a thick southern draw.
Sexy swing and walk, brother.
She's all country.
You know they gave high-fives when they wrote that.
That's like Blackbird.
That's like stairway to heaven.
Now in Heaven, Hotel California.
She's all in the same.
Lyrically magnificent.
I think Aldine takes a lead.
Two to one.
Dude, what's crazy is I never thought I loved all these Aldine songs.
But like, so far I've picked all Al Dean.
You've been three for three, Audit?
Yeah.
Okay.
Luke Brian, do I make no stop?
Do I?
Baby, do I?
Hmm.
Do I?
I didn't see that.
I don't see that.
When I kiss you, baby.
Jason Aldeen, the truth.
Okay, how's that one go?
The truth is, I think, my favorite Jason Aldean's song.
Wow, yeah.
The truth, Brandon, how's that one go?
It's like, because I don't think of the words the truth when I think of this song.
Yeah, it's, um, tell them.
That's it.
Tell them.
Just don't tell them I've gone crazy.
Oh.
Hold on.
I get it for you.
Just don't tell them all the truth.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah, that's good.
Do you know that one?
I mean, yeah, yeah, I've heard it.
I think that might be my favorite album.
I think so.
It's a really good song.
Out of Dirt Road Anthem and she's country?
You pick Dirt Road Anthem?
Yeah.
One of my favorite audio songs.
It's like,
Just don't tell them I've gone crazy.
I can't sing it like that.
But yeah, it's good.
Okay, and then the Luke one is what?
Do I nakes them all around with a thing, baby.
Do I sound down a time and a time and a day.
Baby, baby, do I?
Yeah.
I feel like this is one where Luke really gets in.
know when he sings, you know, shaking it.
No, it's a slow song.
Yeah, yeah, he does that when he sings it.
Mostly he does it's the past songs.
I think he does it the whole show, man.
I don't know, man.
Oh, give me, give me Luke.
Do I?
Do I?
Brandon.
Well, this is tough.
Do I is one of my favorite Luke Bryan songs,
but the truth is one of the best written songs I've heard in a while.
Oh, this is tough.
I'm going to go with the truth.
Luke Bryan's, do I is my favorite Luke Bryan song.
Oh, there we go.
Yeah, it's my number one.
So, uh,
I want to go do I over the truth.
Okay, okay, that's good.
But those were strong,
and they were both at number four on their list.
Luke Bryan, I don't want this night to end.
I don't want, oh, that's a good one.
I don't want this night to end, right?
Yeah.
I don't know if that's the melody.
I'm trying to think of it.
It's the morning when it comes.
Or lamb in the rising song.
No good for me.
Are you guys singing the animals?
Do you hear it?
There was my house in New Orleans.
House of the Rising Sun?
Yeah, I don't have it.
We're doing so many songs.
I know.
The other one's Jason Alde and my kind of party.
My kind of party.
Lunatic from Brunswick.
My kind of party.
It's my kind of party.
I don't want this night to end.
Can you try that one again, Brandon?
I know the verse.
Don't kiss the morning when it goes.
Oh, that's good.
That's good.
Oh, yeah.
Dumbda-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
Yeah, you got it.
You got your hands up.
You're rocking in my truck.
You got the radio on.
You'll sing in every song.
Good, we got that one.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm going to pick that one.
Well, no, we don't.
We haven't hit the other one yet.
The Aldine one is my kind of party.
My kind of party.
Because if we just get the lyrics, we can get it.
Oh, I wish I could hear these.
Okay.
You see Georgia Peach?
Because we can't play them.
I know.
We can kind of sing them.
But since we're singing them so bad, is it?
Yes, that's why.
That's great.
That's why we can do it.
That's why we're singing bad, by the way.
Worked all week, cleaned up and clean cut and clean shape.
I got the cover off the 68.
I fired up and let them horses sing that pretty lame.
Ten-legged Georgia Dream.
She's rocking them holy jeans.
Baby, what you got going on Saturday?
There you know.
about a second.
Oh, okay, here's the chorus.
Here's this.
Because, baby, you can find me in the back of a jacked-up tailgate.
Sitting around watching all these pretty things.
Get down in that Georgia clay.
Yeah, that's that one.
Jam, dude.
These are both really good.
And the first one was like, oh.
I can't go back, dude.
You got your hands up.
Yeah.
Yeah, I got to go, Luke Bryan.
Dude, that sing-along we just did was epic.
Brandon.
I love the sing-along.
Let's go, let's go, I don't want this night to end.
Are you picking it just off to sing along?
I don't know, just hearing both those songs back to back.
I was like, that's pretty good.
It really does help to sing them, you know?
I have to sing them to get out to hear them again.
I know, but it kind of brings the feeling back of just like,
oh, which one do I like better?
I like singing Luke better.
Yeah, I go with the Luke one too.
I just like that one better.
But see, don't pick it off of it.
I get it.
I get it, but it's still the song.
That's not the integrity of this competition has lost.
If you're just picking off of us,
how much fun we're having together.
I won't do that again.
Because I know these artists
watch these stupid videos
and I don't want to piss
because we just sang one better.
I get it.
I get it.
All right, five down.
Mike, what's score?
Luke is up 3 to 2.
After 5.
At halftime, Luke's up 3 to 2.
Just so Jason knows,
I've picked him three times.
Next up,
Luke Brian,
that's my kind of night.
And that would be,
I got my big
good truck.
Up on a di-bidabit-a-d-d-d-truck.
Okay.
Sitting on 35
Jason Aldeen's is
Hicktown
Yeah
Hick town
Little Jimmy Johnson
Oh that hits hard
That's a really strong beginning of that song
That really is
Oh that's the jam at the beginning
Yeah
In a Hickdown
That was like the first single
Maybe so
Yeah
Little Jimmy Jackson is jacking up
His Bronco
He's gonna lay a little
rubber later on
the truck pool.
You with me still or no?
Oh, yeah, for sure.
Then it's, the chorus says,
we let it rip.
We let it roll.
Yeah.
And for sure there's fire.
We get down in a hick town.
Ah, it's a good one, too.
That's my kind of night or hicktown.
Oh, dude.
I gotta go.
That's my kind of night.
Like, when that song came on
for the first time ever,
I got my big.
Back,
Like, dude, it's so good.
That's catfish dinner.
It is catfish dinner.
Flint River.
Cam's up a little catfish dinner.
I'm going Hicktown.
I think that song hits harder.
I like it.
It's also old.
But Catfish dinner came out when we first got here.
Yeah.
But Hicktown's even older.
And I think I didn't know much about Dene before we moved to Nashville because there's like
an eight or nine year period where I was totally checked out.
I was just doing hip hop, you know.
Yeah, yeah.
I remember that, dude.
I'm going Hicktown.
Brandon.
Hicktown.
What?
Yeah.
Little Jimmy Johnson.
His God is.
There you go.
Okay.
We tied?
Tied up.
3.3 to go.
Luke Bryan.
Crash my party.
Come on, man.
Can you do it?
Now I'm just thinking,
crash my playa.
How does it start?
I didn't know how it starts.
Like this.
Um.
Baby you can crash my party anytime.
That's the line.
Yeah, I got it right here.
I don't know how that goes.
Let me see the course.
If you want to call me, call.
Yeah, there go.
Do it.
If you want to call me, call me, call me,
and didn't want to tell me, baby.
You can call me up in the middle of the night.
Maybe that's all right.
Okay, that one or burning it down.
Burning it down.
That's like.
Burning it naked in my bed.
Oh, yeah.
Dude, that's a jam.
That one's a little newer, too, burning it down.
Yeah, and unfairly, there's an unfair thing about that song to me.
We're just hanging around, burning it down, sipping on some cold Jack Daniels.
Doing my thing.
Jamming to some old Alabama.
You want me to go?
Yeah.
there was something about
laying naked in my bed
and I realize now
he's talking about her.
I always thought it was him.
I always thought it was him.
I was turning it down.
Me too.
I don't want to see Jason naked in bed.
Don't talk about that.
I like Jason.
I don't want to see him naked in bed.
And so I never really like
that song for that reason.
I think it's a great song
because it's kind of a jam.
It is like a slow jam.
It's like a, yeah.
But crash my party.
after singing it and then you know i mean that built his brand didn't it like crash my playa
i'm sure he had a tour called crash my whatever you don't know that i don't know that but i'm
assuming so to go crash my party anytime brandon i'm gonna go crash my party yeah i'll go crash my
party as well did we were we there for the yeah we were there for his video shoot do you remember
that i was yeah we went you went to interview him i've been to a luke brian video shoot yeah so
so it was when we first got here
and they wanted you to interview Luke Brian
but he was out of shoot
and so we were in the house
where they shot that video
crashed my party and we were somewhere in like
in the attic or whatever and we sat in this couch
there was a pool table there and we did an interview
I got nothing. You don't remember any of that?
I drove by that house like a few months ago
and I was like wow look that's where they shot that video
crazy you don't remember any of that
I don't know that it was me
it was you, me and Justin Cole
I don't remember one
a morsel of that story.
It was so cool to me because we walked in
and there were all these production people
and cameras and all this stuff
and Luke's like, I'm upstairs
and we just kept out walking upstairs
and that's where we ended up doing it.
The interview.
Not a morsel.
That's crazy.
All right, we are now at song number eight.
Luke Bryan, kiss tomorrow goodbye.
Don't remember it.
Jason Aldeen flyover states.
Oh, well, you hit that one.
hard.
Dude, flyover states is one of my favorite Jason Aldine songs ever.
They never die my own home.
Oh, that's that one.
It's literally about flying over these states.
That farm.
These farmland that people will never get to see because you just fly over and you
don't think about it.
But there are some really good people down there.
Yeah.
I love that song.
Did you think we didn't know what that meant flyover states?
Just in case, because I didn't for a long time.
I just, I'm not a lyric guy, you know?
Let me tell you about kiss tomorrow goodbye.
It's about when the night's over.
Uh-huh.
What do you do?
Well, tomorrow's not going to happen
because this is our last night.
He's kissed it goodbye.
Oh.
That's deep.
Yeah.
I don't know, but you know how like people say states?
Sometimes it's like a state of mind.
You know?
Quaker state.
I can't sing kiss tomorrow goodbye, though.
Ain't going to beg you to stay.
You're going to ask you what's wrong.
Oh, yeah.
No reason.
and after something's already gone.
Take off your leaving dress.
Remember that?
Yeah, okay.
Oh, that's it.
And kiss tomorrow goodbye.
Ah, is a good one.
Brandon, go ahead.
Oh.
Do you want me to sing you?
Yeah, please do.
Please do.
You never be a ball.
That's good.
Huh.
It's probably not that high.
I went really high.
Well, that's really high.
Answer?
I'm going to go kiss tomorrow, goodbye.
Oh, wow.
you want me to sing it for you again?
I'm going to go
kiss tomorrow goodbye.
Dude, I feel like you guys are just picking
the opposite of me.
I don't care enough about you
to pick the opposite of you
in this.
I just pick what I want.
Okay.
I think you're putting too much
value on yourself.
No, it's not that.
It's just that my vote's never counting.
Like, this is pretty much y'all's game.
But you're not affecting us.
Like, I pick a song
and you guys are like,
we'll pick the other one.
I'll go first.
more. Okay.
Then I'm going to pick the opposite. But that's not
the point of the game. Mike,
what do we got? Fort to four?
Luke is up now. What score?
Five to three. Five to three. Okay.
Luke Bryan, rain is a good thing.
Oh, that's a good one.
What line comes to mind?
Frisky.
Baby, it makes my baby.
Get a little frisky.
Or Jason Aldeen
Big Green Tractor.
Oh.
Dang.
This is a good matchup.
So far I think this is the best matchup.
Brandon, which one do you have?
Rain is a good thing or Big Green Tractor?
I'm going to have to go Big Green Tractor.
Dig for a ride on Big Green Tractor.
Man.
You up?
I'm going to go Big Green Tractor.
See?
You didn't give a vote yet.
But you know I was going to go.
I don't know what you're going to do.
You think we care.
Maybe a little frisker.
You think we care what you're going to do?
We don't.
Rain makes corn.
It's a jam, though.
Corn makes risky.
Dude, I was going to go.
Rain is a good thing.
You still can.
I know, but it's not going to count now.
It counts.
You just didn't win this one.
I don't think I've won one.
Big Green Tractor.
It's not a game you're winning.
I know, I know.
You're not competing.
I get it.
Okay.
Last one.
And the score is.
Luke is up.
Five to four.
He's taking it off.
Luke Bryan, someone else calling you baby.
I know that one, but I can't sing that.
Jason Aldine, Amarillo Sky.
So good.
Can you sing a little bit of someone else calling you baby, Brandon?
Yeah, let me call Luke.
Let's see.
Let me call Luke real quick.
Let's see, calling you baby.
It's difficult because once you sing a lot of them,
it's hard to get another.
And really how many song titles do we know?
Like someone else calling you baby.
I don't think that's it.
I don't know that.
Did you just make up a song with those lyrics?
No, I, I, if we have to, how does Amarillo Sky go?
Amarillo Sky.
There go.
Yeah, that's a good one.
Really good.
All right, go ahead.
You want to go?
Eddie, where would you like to go in this round?
I would like to go first.
Okay, go ahead.
Jason Aldeen, Amarillo Sky.
Okay.
You haven't really heard.
the other one yet. I know. Well, he's saying some of it and whatever he's saying. He just saying the words.
I don't think I have it very down. But you're still going to Emmerlost guy? How are we going to be able to
figure out the other one? I can probably pull it up. Okay. What's it called? Someone else calling you,
baby. Someone else called me. I know. I know I know that one. Okay, here we go. We see if I can get this.
I saw a truck back in not your drive. You were saying. That's it. You're
Stephen on 45.
Sing it all.
Like, that's my kind of night.
But yeah, I got nothing, man.
I got too many songs in my head.
No, that's so hard.
But it doesn't matter.
But if I can't think of it,
in my mind, it can't win.
But you have to pick something.
Yeah, I'm going to go with Emerilus guy.
Nice.
Okay.
And then who's left?
Brandon, did you have a lot?
Well, now that I know what Eddie picked.
That doesn't matter.
I'm going to go.
Memarillo Sky.
All right.
Unanimous.
So I think we're 5-5.
5.
Oh, my gosh.
Why are these so close?
So we have one tiebreaker.
This is it.
This is the haymaker.
This is it.
It's Luke Brian roller coaster.
Ooh.
And Jason Aldean Night Train.
Oh, night trains are going.
These are, this is definitely a nostalgia matchup.
I want to fairly get both these songs up.
Come on, baby.
Won't you get me on a night train?
Oh, yeah.
I typed in.
just roller coaster.
And the roller coasters
newer.
No, it brought up
a roller coaster
is an amusement ride
that's an elevated
railway track
to carry passengers
through sharp
burns.
Hey, that sounds fun.
Yeah.
Okay.
Here we go with
roller coaster.
Luke Brian.
We spent that week
wide open.
Oh, yeah.
That's a good one.
What's one that?
Roller coaster.
That's a good one.
Yeah, that is a good one.
Old Dominion guy
wrote that one,
right?
That's a good one.
Yeah, don't let that music play to the microphone.
Sorry, it's not.
Okay.
It was because we heard.
My bad.
But the night train is,
come on, baby,
want you listen to the night train.
Good one, nailed that one too.
Coles-Wendell roller coaster.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Colded?
Yeah.
Okay.
Where would you like to do, Eddie?
You want me to go first?
That's up to you.
I would like to go, Jason Aldean, Night Train.
Man, we spent that week wide open.
Roller Coasters is a freaking jam.
I'm going roller coaster, Luke, Brian.
Come on, Brandon, it's all you.
You know, the winner depends on it.
The winner does?
Yeah, right here.
Okay.
Don't put the extra pressure on them
because now people will pick based on who they want to win.
You just kind of be free.
Okay.
Hey, just be free.
My initial reaction when I, like, listen to both songs,
roller coaster.
Oh.
Wow.
But now we'll never know.
We'll never, ever know.
The tank has been polluted.
All right.
Wow, so that, I mean, that makes Luke the winner.
So five to five and then tiebreaker,
roller coaster wins.
First time we ever had a tie.
Extra innings.
Mike, is that right?
That is it.
Yeah, first time.
So Luke Brian is the winner.
Congratulations, Luke.
In the Luke Aldinoff in overtime,
Luke Bryan wins with roller coaster.
Thank you, boys.
We've got to get better rules on this
or just accept there are no rules.
Anything we do, because Eddie started
playing for himself. At some point in this competition,
Eddie started going, I'm not winning.
I wasn't playing. It's not about you.
And then I started to get frustrated at the process.
I just want a legitimate fair election.
I understand that. But you know what? Life isn't fair.
And then Brandon's going to get his copyrighted,
playing music through. Sorry, man. That's my bad.
Thank you for watching, everybody.
I think we just go no rules.
No rules.
And if you want to win it for yourself,
freaking win it for yourself next week.
Let's go. I like that.
That's stupid.
Okay, thank you.
Congratulations to Luke Bryan.
Your medal is in the mail.
And thank you guys for watching
and we'll have another battle next week.
Bye everybody.
Hang tight.
The Bobbycast will be right back.

All right. I'm going to take it back solo here for a second. As I record this, it is 4.27 p.m.
on Tuesday afternoon. Thank you all for listening. And we were talking on the show about
having a boat and I never had an actual boat. I was part of a boat club.
and I thought
I kind of get a boat
don't have to pay for all the maintenance
and then I just go out when I want to
and just getting a boat inside of a boat club
is even a bit annoying
because for me I would go
all right who wants to go out on the boat
I'm not a big boat guy anyway
not a big water guy as you probably know
and I'd have three or four friends be like I'm in
and then the morning of
oh I can't go I can't go I can't go
so then it's just me going out to the boat
or even worse
I'd invite three or four people
and I'd invite like I
a new friend, or I'd say, hey, you can invite a friend,
so they'd invite a friend, and everybody cancels with the one other person,
and it's not even enough people to go and wakeboard, and it's just you and what.
So, getting in a boat club, definitely sounded more fun than it ended up being.
There are certain invitations that sound perfect when you first hear them.
Like, come spend the day on the boat, and I'm talking about not even boat club.
Occasionally, I get invited to come spend the day on the boat.
Or another one is, let's all get together for dinner.
Or another one is, oh, we got VIP, we should go to this show or we should.
Oh, that's a bad one too.
All these sound great and they can be great.
But the way they sound when someone pitches them is usually a lot more appealing than the actual experience.
Once you factor in all the details.
And I'm not trying to be bah humbug here in late October or early November or whenever you hear this.
because what happens is you get the invitation
and it gives you the highlight reel.
It leaves out the planning, the waiting,
the compromises, the logistics.
For me, you probably guessed it.
I like to have at least a little bit of control.
It's why when I go to dinner with just my wife,
like I like to control when I can leave the restaurant.
So when we order our food, I often say,
hey, can we go ahead and get the check?
Because then I can control when we leave.
If I want to stay and keep talking after, we definitely can do that.
There's nothing that rushes us out because we've paid the check.
But I'm a little bit of a control freak.
Now, if we talk about the boat day first, because that's how we started.
And now I'll forget the part where I said I was in a boat club,
which is what kind of got me to this.
Come spend the day out on the boat.
It sounds relaxing.
You picture the water, the sun, music playing,
maybe a couple hours where nobody has to be anywhere.
But then you start thinking about everything that has to happen
before you're actually relaxing.
All right, who's going to drive the boat?
And for me, when I was having to drive the boat,
you needed more than two people.
I'll go back to the one at a boat in a boat club.
You need it more than two people
because you have one to have one to be the looker
and then one to be able to wakeboard or wake skate.
Okay, let me stop talking about me.
But you go out, who's going to drive the boat?
Okay, where do you park?
What time are we leaving?
What should we bring?
or we bring a food?
Is there a bathroom?
What happens if somebody gets cold or hungry
or is tired of being out there?
And once you're on the boat,
you're on the boat.
If somebody else is driving
or at somebody else's boat,
you're on their schedule.
You may have thought you'd say for a couple hours.
But now the plan is to go to another spot.
In another spot.
You're trying to make the most of the day
so you don't say anything about it.
You just sit there wondering
when the relaxing part is going to start.
I understand right now
you're crawling into my,
brain and you were hearing me be a bit anxious and extremely neurotic about something that's supposed
to be fun but this is what happens to me all the time again it can be a great day i'm not saying
the boats are bad i'm saying the sentence come spend the day on the boat skips over about 12 decisions
and a few hours of preparation the idea is simple the actual day has a lot of moving parts i'm not good at
moving parts i'm not good at moving parts a big group dinner that's another one that's the worst a big
group dinner, that is dreadful. When someone says, let's all get together for dinner,
that statement sounds nice. You, lots of folks, everybody catches up, possibly good food, easy
conversation. But with the big group, getting to the dinner is its own event. Hopefully,
you have somebody taking control and just saying, we're going to go here because you've got to
decide where to go. Then you got to pick a time that works for everybody. Hopefully you have
somebody like me that says, okay, this is the place and this is the time we're starting.
But then you got people showing up late. And I think mostly like if I'm planning a birthday
party for somebody and we're doing a dinner birthday and people are rolling in. And first you
got to do all the drinks. Oh, don't get me started on drinks first. And then appetizers. And then
it's going to be a whole four hour double feature here. You got the whole thing planned.
Somebody can't make it on time. So then you move it by a little bit.
and that person ends up canceling.
And someone else doesn't like the restaurant.
And then you get the person,
if you're doing it on group text,
that goes, no, I'm good with whatever.
So then nobody makes a decision.
You finally get there.
The group is large.
Who do you sit by?
Who do you sit by?
You know a lot of these people.
A lot of these are your friends.
So there's people at the other side of the table.
They're basically having their own other dinner
and dinner conversation.
So you're trying to hear what's going on over there.
Those are your friends too,
but if you didn't sit in the right place,
you're not knowing what's going on down there.
Somebody's trying to tell a story from across the table.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me feel like spiders
are crawling on my hands or wrists.
Food comes out all different times.
One person's finished before someone else has gotten their meal
and the check arrives.
Nobody really knows how to split it.
Do we divide it evenly?
Do people pay exactly?
for what they ordered is the person who just had water still covered part of the appetizers.
There's always going to be somebody who's upset about that. It needs to be stated ahead of time.
I'll say that it needs to be stated ahead of time how you're going to pay if you're doing a group
dinner. At some point, a dinner that sounded like a few hours together has turned into a long
evening and the last hour is just people figuring out how to pay. There's nothing wrong with going
out with a group. That's fun. It just isn't always as effortless as the phrase makes it sound.
sometimes the best part is just seeing everybody.
Sometimes you're glad you went,
but it may take a while to get to the part that you imagined.
And I can do VIP too.
VIP is another word that people just throw around
and what does it even mean?
And that's happened before.
Hey, don't worry, we got VIP, like to a concert or something.
I'm telling you now, backstage is not a thing.
Backstage there may be a place for you to do a quick meet and greet.
Backstage is only a thing if you're actually with the artist.
Because for the most part, backstage is actually on the bus,
back not even in the venue.
Now, if you know the artist and you're just hanging out in the dressing room,
that's different.
I have friends that are artists.
And for the most part, they stay on their bus until it's time to go a bit into the backstage.
And then you go backstage and you have your tea,
you're a singer, and you go out.
But backstage is not a thing.
Now, VIP, you think that's going to be just a better experience.
Maybe you'll get in faster.
Maybe you'll see more.
Maybe you'll be closer to the action.
Occasionally, that's true.
But the label VIP really doesn't guarantee any of that.
You can pay extra to still wait in line.
You can get access to a separate area,
and this happens a lot.
That separate area may be closer,
but has a worse view.
I've seen VIP sections where you pay more and you get the bracelet
and maybe you get like a free drink or something
and you're close to side stage
but side stage kind of blows
because you can't really hear
the speakers aren't really made for side stage listening
also you can end up standing behind people who also paid for the special experience
and you spend the whole time trying to make sure you're using the VIP access
correctly instead of just enjoying the event
it can be worth it. I will say
it can be worth it, but VIP is a promise,
but the details determine if it's a good one or not.
What do you actually get?
Really.
VIP and backstage, and maybe you've heard me talk about this on the show,
it sounds way more fun than it actually is,
unless you know what it actually is.
So, I don't know why I just kind of was shot out of a cannon with this.
But the experience, whatever it is,
depends on all the little things that actually aren't in the title.
The people matter, the timing matters, the setup matters, how many decisions you have to make
matters. Sometimes the thing that sounds fun, only becomes fun after you get past the part
that nobody mentioned when they invited you. I mean, the boat to me is dreadful. The boat is dreadful.
The group dinner is dreadful. That doesn't mean you should turn everything down. Even I,
who I do nothing. Don't turn everything down. It just means you can be honest about what the
experience actually involves. You can like that.
the people and still not love a big group dinner. You can enjoy being on the water and still want to know
when you're coming back. You can be excited about a group trip even. If you do those or with another
family and you still want a little time to yourself while you're there. But I'll also say some
things are worth doing even if parts of those are inconvenient. But it's okay if you're like me
about the inconvenience,
but I would never recommend a boat club.
And I don't really go out on the boat
unless I know the exact time we're coming in.
And for the most part, and this is a luxury that I have,
the luxury that I have is if we do a group dinner,
I'm probably just going to pay for it all
because I don't want to wait for everybody to split the check.
What I will do is I will walk to our waiter
who is not by the table,
and I will say, hey, just put this on this card.
Now, if it's a group dinner of over, I'll say over eight.
So nine or more, I'm not going to do that, but you rarely will hear or see me in a group dinner that big.
But to be fair, if we're doing a group dinner for my wife's birthday or Eddie or someone like that, I'll pay for the whole thing.
But oh my God, dreadful.

And we're back on the Bobbycast.
What else is dreadful right now?
I have a crick in my neck that is killing me.
And maybe why I'm a little irritated.
You know, I did in the weeds last week after Adam.
nail on my tire and I was a little irritated and I said some stuff and that in the weeds
that it's not that I regret it in any way but I probably wouldn't have been as I said earlier
as shot out of a cannon had I not had a nail on my tire right when I got to the studio to record
and it wasn't just a normal nail it was a drywall nail nobody's doing drywall anywhere near
where I live or work and tires are expensive they suck so I
I went in a little irritated. Today, I think I'm a little irritable because I got it. I got two things. One, I got a crick in my neck and I can barely turn to the left. Man to the right. Right now I'm turning my neck to the right. Oh man, look at that. Woo! Looks beautiful. Look at all that. Perfect trees. Outside looks great. Let me go to the left. I can't. I can't turn it all to the left. I got nothing. All I can see is ahead of me. I think I, I, I cricked it while sleeping because I just woke up. It's killing me.
I think I talked about this in another episode where I tried to use my wife's neck massager.
And all it did was just grind itself into my neck.
But so that's one thing.
Two is I cannot get my butt bone better.
I have a coxics injury.
Like coxicity.
Coxicidia.
And so I don't know how it happened.
all I know is that
anytime I sit down,
if I sit for a while,
it starts to hurt very badly
to the point where it hurts so bad
I don't even want to get up
because it hurts getting up.
Now, could I sit with a donut?
Yes, that's on me
because I have not invested in the donut.
The only time I ever think about getting a donut
is when I'm talking about my coxicity.
And I'm like, I should get a donut.
And then as soon as I don't talk about it anymore,
I don't think about it anymore,
so I don't get a donut.
Also, I don't be walking around
with a donut.
But I would rather,
get rid of this and walk around with the donut, then not get rid of it and not walk around with the donut.
So I got to make a note.
Get a donut.
Sit on a donut until your butt bone is healed.
I don't know what happened.
I don't know why my butt bone is so sore, but it hurts so bad.
I don't know if anybody else has dealt with.
Coxicidia.
I got all my glasses in.
I had to get a prescription change.
So I hadn't been to the eye doctor in probably three years.
And when I was reading, the words were getting a little blurrier.
And I thought, I must just be tired.
And so I would read a bit earlier in the day.
And the words would be blurrier.
And I would think, I must just be tired earlier.
And then my wife said, you should go and get your eyes rechecked.
And so I did.
to get my eyes we checked here in town.
And my doctor, I guess I've got two eye doctors.
I've got one that's here,
but her dad is also an eye doctor.
So if I'm ever in Oklahoma near her hometown,
I'll go to his office.
But I guess my doctor's here.
And so I go and I get my eyes checked
and she says,
hey, I think you're about three prescriptions out of date here.
So only have one eye that works,
which is my left eye.
My right eye,
if they actually tried to make a glass
thick enough to fix that eye,
it would look like I got a Coke bottle on one side.
And it still wouldn't fix it
because that is in my brain.
It's not an eye injury or near-sided or far-sightedness.
I have a severe astigmatism that is a result of something being wrong with that part of my brain.
By my left eye, it was good at one point.
And now, I think it's in my 40s, it starts to slowly get worse.
And so that's what happens when you get older.
You get cricks in your neck.
You get a bow in the hurts.
And you get a left eye, your only good eye.
that it starts to get weaker. I am far-sighted. So I go, I get my prescription and order a couple
pair of glasses. But I have many pair of glasses because it is definitely part of my aesthetic as well,
meaning if I'm on camera, first of all, I can't see if I don't have them on. Secondly, I need the
exact same pair for continuity, consistency, because it is a part of my public persona. Right? I've known from
forever when I got into this business that I am just a generic looking vanilla wafer feeling
a little bit goofy white guy. So I need to do something that makes me stand out a little bit.
So I started to wear these big bowl glasses because loved Weezer and love Buddy Holly.
Started when I was young. Then I stopped wearing him for a long time. And then once my career
started to pop just a little bit, I started back with wearing the dark rim glasses.
When I was young and I was wearing them, my left eye had no issues at all. My left eye was perfect.
But my doctor always said, well, if your left eye that's good, it catches a rock, you don't have your right eye to rely on.
So wear glasses just in case you get hit in your one good eye. So that's what I did. But now I definitely need them.
Here's the issue. I go and I probably have 10 pair of glasses. 10, 1-0.
So I go in and I get my eyes checked and I order two new pair of glasses and then I send the other
eight pair that I have after those two come in.
I send them off to get relensed.
I got to sneeze.
Come on.
Come on.
It went away.
The sneeze went away.
That sneeze stalked me.
It followed me into a hole.
And right when I was ready to accept.
that sneeze was going to turn me into its prey,
it danced off like a mom dear in the early morning.
So I guess I'm not going to sneeze.
So I sent all these glasses off, bought a couple new pair.
All in all, cost me like $3,800.
$300 bucks!
Crazy!
Insurance doesn't pay for the glasses.
It's crazy.
So I got a hurt neck.
I got a sore butt bone.
Like $30,100 and eye care happening.
And then my bottom, lower, back tooth is starting to be sensitive
when I eat on my right side.
So I'm having to eat on my left side only.
Because now I know I got to go to the dentist and I probably have a cavity.
Although I think I've had that tooth filled before because I've had to have all my teeth filled at some point
because I never went to the dentist growing up.
I'm breaking down, folks.
I'm breaking down.
But I'm also really tired.
but am I or is my vision just bad?
So that's what's happening.
That's about 20 minutes of my life on this Tuesday afternoon.
I didn't really lend you anything you can take out into the world.
Maybe if anything, what I lent you was whenever you have one of these
going to boat type situations, big group dinner situations,
VIP situations, other family going to vacation,
if you're going together situations, take the lead.
You be the one with the details.
Share it with everybody.
Be the one in control.
Make it happen.
That's what I do.
I don't do it as charity.
I do it because I don't want to go bananas.
Always wondering.
My wife is exactly the opposite.
She is so go with the flow.
She is such a happy person just to be around people she likes.
She's just good.
in her environment.
Eddie's also like that.
He's just good in his environment.
And what happens, happens.
Eddie and I have a really great relationship
because as you know,
if you've spent any time listening to me over the years,
even listening to me now,
that I am an overly neurotic type A personality.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
I can see where it would be difficult
to be around someone like that all that time.
But Eddie could not be more of a type B
and that's not a bad thing either.
Eddie's always happy.
And for Eddie and I to be in the room together
as much as we are, but that's not it.
We would just go on the road together too
for days at a time.
We would leave the studio after working together
for five days, six, seven hours a day,
sitting right beside each other
and get on a bus and go and do shows,
tour together.
I really haven't been on tour at all
in a year and a half or so.
I've done the occasional stand-up show
or charity deal,
but I kind of have
taken that part of my life
and put it on hold,
mostly because we were having a baby.
But Eddie and I spent
a, before it was a bus,
it was a car.
And we would drive all around the country.
But Eddie's like that.
He is just a great guy
to be around
because he's good
just being around.
I wish I had more of that in me.
I admire that about him.
I admire that about my wife.
Like they're able to just go
and enjoy and not overthink
and not lay out every situation or scenario
that may happen that could be good but probably won't be
otherwise I don't think the raging idiots Eddie and I's
two-man comedy duo
it would have never made it
we'd have never gone multi-platinum
but I do admire that if you're like them
that's great I admire that
I think your brain's probably less tired
or it gets to be tired about things that matter
not wasteful things like me getting all worked up
as I'm talking to you about a group dinner that drives me crazy.
Thank you everybody for listening.
I really had a different plan.
I want to talk about this episode,
but we did not get there.
But next time.

In February of 2024, celebrated illustrator and children's book author,
Patra Mathers, and her husband Michael mailed letters to dozens of friends and family members.
to let them know they had died by suicide.
Dear honies, this is goodbye.
By the time you get to Shletter, both Petra and I will be dead.
Next stop, Wonderland.
Why did they do it?
And what did it do to the people they left behind?
