Starting point is 00:01:57 Hello. Go ahead, Trevor. You got a whole story. You know, you were saying, like, you know, before the interview started, I was texting my daughter back. She goes to University of Miami, and she was asking me, she had a set of questions about writing. She's like, can you send this to someone on your team? I need this for an assignment. And I was like, well, I could just do it at, like, songwriting.
Starting point is 00:02:14 She's like, yeah, but there's already three songwriters in the class out of 16 people. And I was, and I jokingly, I thought I was going to be cool. I said, yeah, but is their dad a hit songwriter? You know, and she goes, well, actually, one of them is John Bon Jovi's son. I got totally one-up I was expecting that I was going to say I don't think anybody was expecting
Starting point is 00:02:36 that sequence of events to happen you know what that was a funny story that was that was a great story you tried to tell a dad joke it definitely backfired on you definitely got smack down yeah you know how often does it happen for you guys that you guys go somewhere and you're like
Starting point is 00:02:50 you feel really cool and you're like this is awesome but then somebody else shows up you're like oh we're not that cool right I don't know how cool we feel when we walk into places You have to feel semi-cool. You guys went on tour with Kenny Chesney. You guys are just like a massive band.
Starting point is 00:03:04 People know you. You have to feel decently cool sometimes. There are definitely times when you feel cool. I'm going into McDonald's to get my, you know, uh, egg McMuffin. I feel pretty cool. Oh, going into McDonald's, that's all we got. When I feel the coolest is when, like, we're playing somewhere and, like, say we go out to eat or whatever, and we're coming back and, like, the windows are rolled up and no one can,
Starting point is 00:03:28 see you, but you're just rolling past the line of people that are waiting. I kind of like that feeling. I'm like, I'm right here and they don't know it. That's a cool moment for me. You know what, whatever makes you feel cool? I just want to make sure you guys know that you're cool, okay? I appreciate that. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:03:45 You deserve that, especially after you got. Take that, Olivia. There you go. I do want to ask, I think it's funny as as we get older, there's things that happen in life. I'm like, dang, we're getting older. Oh, we're talking about that now. Yeah, we are. Well, because it made me think of this.
Starting point is 00:03:59 I thought we were almost done. It made me think of this because of the dad joke that happened. What are some things that happened now and you're like, oh, yeah, I'm old. This is my, I'm old moment. TikTok? TikTok, yeah. Just watching TikTok? No, just the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Like, that's part of our, yeah, the whole thing. It's like now part of our career. Yeah, yeah. Like, we have to do TikTok. And we're like, we're so old that we don't really know how. Yeah. So we have to hire people to help us. I can teach you guys how to do TikTok.
Starting point is 00:04:27 That's what you think. Did we hire you? Yeah. But you can teach us how to do it, but can you teach us how to look cool on TikTok? See, here's the thing about TikTok. Let me just change the thing. Is that everybody thinks you need to look cool? You don't actually have to be cool.
Starting point is 00:04:42 It's cooler not to be cool on TikTok. Well, we should be killing it then. Yes. Maybe we are cool. Maybe you're right. If we're killing it. There's dancers and it makes it look really cool, but I'm telling you everybody loves when you're just yourself and you're kind of being an idiot.
Starting point is 00:04:56 that's what people love on TikTok. Does that help? That helps tremendously, yes. Makes you guys feel at least like you're not so out of touch because you're really not. You guys are very cool. I feel like you can rock it. We are cool, guys. Let's go make a TikTok.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Let's go. Yes. I wish we could morph that into a jumping high five. Now, if I see you guys doing a TikTok dance, then we might have to have some conversations. Yeah, yeah. We're not doing that. Don't worry about that. None of those.
Starting point is 00:05:19 No, no. Okay. I do have some fun rapid fire questions for you guys real quick. Okay. Sing to me the Christmas song that's been stuck in your head. You guys can do it. it together you could do it separately I was just singing one this morning
Starting point is 00:05:30 It was beautiful vibrato We're going into a new voice We're going to a new voice It was fleas and avidavit That was stuck in my house How does that one go? Fleeze on my dog
Starting point is 00:05:46 I was doing that to entertain my youngest daughter More dad jokes I mean we got a lot of dad jokes Coming out of Trevor today TikTok and this Yeah what's wrong Fleas on my dog Is that you say tick to this?
Starting point is 00:05:56 No, don't say that. That's lesson number two. Don't do that. See, you thought this was going to be easy. We were doing good. Don't do that. It's just got a little off track. We'll go back on it.
Starting point is 00:06:10 It's like the progressive commercial right now. What are you doing? What do you do? You should put this on TikTok? I don't think you really say anything. You just kind of do it. We're learning slang. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Yes. It's right. Oh, okay. You're doing great. I'm very proud of you. Thank you. Last meal on Earth that you guys would have. What would it be?
Starting point is 00:06:30 Last meal on Earth? Yep. Last meal on Earth. You can die, get an old age, whatever you want. Maryland steamed crabs. Oh, yeah. Oh, that's a great choice. You're allergic.
Starting point is 00:06:38 I'm allergic. Oh, so, like, that would kill you. I'd be happy, though. My answer, you love them, you just can have them. My answer would probably change every five minutes. At this moment, I want a Cuban sandwich with fried plantains. Oh, nice. Fried plantains are like fried banana.
Starting point is 00:06:56 basically, right? Yeah. Okay. I dig it. I probably had to do some sort of pasta dish. Pasta? Some, like, nice homey, hearty, red sauce pasta. Some, like, spaghetti and meatballs or a little more fancy than that?
Starting point is 00:07:09 A little more fancy than that. Like a bolognaise. Oh, we're getting real fancy. Okay, we got a chef on the team. I almost want breakfast there. I was almost going to say French toast, but I don't feel right about that. I'm going to go just a nice, juicy, bonin, wagyu ribeye. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:26 And that's the expensive. I'm vegetarian. I've never had that in my life, but I know that's the expensive meat. Even though you're vegetarian, you would enjoy it. That's how good it is. I think so. I don't feel that way.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Well, you wouldn't have to worry about feeling it the next day. That's true because you die. That's true, because you die. All right. You make a valid point. All valid. Probably some fetuccini alfredo. I love a good fetuccini alfredo.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Add a little chocolate cake. I'm great. Not like two the fettuccini, but. No, not after. I'm a big dessert roll, you know. And the last one, I want to know the coolest phone number you guys have in your phones. Can we anyone, like a celebrity. $6.15.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Oh, we're getting an actual phone number. I got, I got Peyton Manning in here. That's cool. And Guy Fieri. Fieri. What was that conversation to get Guy Fietti's phone number? We were at stage show. Tequila-fueled conversation.
Starting point is 00:08:22 We did some bit with him where we made tacos or something like that. And then he's just a cool dude. We just exchanged numbers. I actually have Wayne Gretzky. Okay. That's probably the coolest. And how did that one happen? Through mutual hockey people.
Starting point is 00:08:36 He's a fan of the band. And we were supposed to golf one day. It didn't end up happening. But he was supposed to come to show. And that didn't end up happening either. But he's a great guy. Somebody gave you his number? What's that?
Starting point is 00:08:47 No, no. I mean, like, it was a mutual. Yeah, it was a friend of his and he introduced us. Like you didn't get the number from Wayne. Yeah. He said Wayne. He just has the number. You and I met him, Brad.
Starting point is 00:08:57 We met his caddy. And then he was like, oh, Wayne lives in St. Louis. And we exchanged numbers. This is a long story. But, yeah, we exchanged numerous because Wayne wanted to go off with us to come to the show. Well, apparently didn't want to golf with us or come to the show. But I got his number. You like them apples.
Starting point is 00:09:17 You have yet to have a conversation with him. Yeah, that's good. I mean, we've texted. We're pretty good. Are you sure you're texting him? I've texted him. As far as I'm. I guess he was a green bubble.
Starting point is 00:09:29 I don't know what that's about. Yeah. You know, I wonder if it is Wayne. Oh, now you're questioning it. This is not good for you. You're not having a good moment. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
Starting point is 00:09:44 All right. What about you two? What's you got? You know, I'm trying to think the only thing that's popping into my head is because last night I sent these guys a picture. Oh, yeah. Was watching Monday night football. and Joe Buck made a comment.
Starting point is 00:09:58 He referred to a player as one-man band, and I listened to his podcast, and I heard him one time say that Eddie Vedder and Bruce Springsteen will text him during the show while he's on TV and try to get him to say stuff. So I was like, you know what? He gave me his phone number this summer. I'm going to see what happens.
Starting point is 00:10:17 And I shot him a text and said, you have to pay us royalties for saying one-man band on. What did he say? Commercial break came and he shot me right back, He goes, you got a Sue ESPN. That's what happens when you get the phone number. That's why nobody gives out their phone number. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:30 I know because you hit him up at inappropriate moments. That's great. All right, you got one? No, I'm out. I have no cool numbers in my phone. You don't have a scam phone number? I mean, I get these guys. He's a fan of this guy.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Oh, this is a little window who he's a fan of this guy on YouTube who does like small engine repair. Yeah. He's got his phone. Go into the mind, did you? I'm so intrigued how you stumbled upon that YouTube. I was super Starstruck when I met the guy. He was. Well, hey, everybody's got to have hobbies.
Starting point is 00:11:03 We got all these, like, pro athletes and other musicians and stuff coming to shows, and he's got the small engine repair guy. You know, but TikTok, that's the thing. You can make a thing with that. I mean, he could tear a Vespa part, put it back together, just like that. It's amazing. I'm not going to knock on your hobbies. I appreciate that you shared that way.
Starting point is 00:11:18 And it sounds like we're joking. He was super nervous when that guy was around. Also, let's be clear. You don't appreciate that. shared it, you appreciate that he shared my hobby with you. Hey, I can't change the fact that he shared that. Sorry, man. But I'm here for it. Do you guys have a group text? Is that how you guys communicate with each other? Yes. It's called Just the Five of Us. Yeah. Which actually one of us isn't here. I was going to say you're missing one. Yeah. What happens in that group chat? Is it
Starting point is 00:11:41 all business or is it mostly never business? I would say it's five to three percent business. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Mostly just dumb TikToks. Yeah. Dumb TikToks and dad jokes? Yeah, pretty much. Okay. I get upset if there's there's a business text in it. I'm like, oh. Yeah, it's like, wrong three. Well, hey, you know, we talked about a lot of fun things, but nothing really about your guys' career.
Starting point is 00:12:00 So, hey, you want to shout out what you guys are doing right now just so we, you know, throw something out there? We make music. We're nominated for some awards, and we're having a good time. We're going on tour. Group of the year. Oh, yeah, no bad vibes. No bad vibes.
Starting point is 00:12:10 There we go. New music coming January. Oh, new music. I love that. And probably some new awesome TikToks coming your way soon. If I do not see a dance in Old Dominion TikTok, I'm sadly disappointed. We're going to make the ticks and talks right now.
Starting point is 00:12:23 We're going to do that. Okay. Not take some talks. We'll get there. We'll get there. Thank you guys. It's great to see you. The CMAs are live.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Tomorrow. At 87 Central on ABC. It's Morgan here with the amazing Luke O'Brien. Thank you. How are you? You are amazing. Is it amazing an adjective? Yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Or a verb. Yeah, I think it's an adjective. But honestly, I don't remember, if I'm being very honest. I wasn't good at English either. You know, I wasn't good at most school, Luke. I really don't feel that way. Do you feel that way sometimes? Yeah, I just cheated my way. Yeah, we made it, though.
Starting point is 00:12:58 I had good neighbors in class. Hey, you're not admitting anything. We're making sure that's off the record. Right. We saw you on Monday Night Football, and you were talking about Bobby, and he was really happy you shouted him out. Well, yeah, I mean, when me and Tebow were doing our back and forth with his husband and my CMA Award, you know, Bobby, I knew he had an English Bulldog,
Starting point is 00:13:22 so I called him up, and I was like, hey man, I need to borrow Stanley. I was like, I got the, I got the, I got Tim Tebow's husband, and I just got to have some shenanigans. Maybe we can, and so Bobby said, yeah, come on by us to swung by. We had a little fun with Stanley. It was funny. It was awesome.
Starting point is 00:13:38 It was good to see it, because, you know, even when it came out, it got a few hits, but then for it to resurface last night on Manningcast, it was pretty funny. Yeah, and it was pretty awesome. He just really appreciated you shouting him out. thanks from all of us for doing it. I'm helping. I'm a team player. Yeah, hey, we like it.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Trying to get y'all some clicks. You are hosting the CMAs with Peyton Manning. I need to know, are you going to do some pranks on stage? Well, you know, there's the whole thing may be a prank, but I mean, me and Peyton will have a good time, and we're working on our scripts today and still going to work hard to make sure it's a fun show. And, you know, you don't want to be too silly. There's moments of seriousness, and then there's moments to have fun.
Starting point is 00:14:22 and kind of goof off a little bit. But we're going to go over, you know, leaving right now, going to run the show and certainly going to have some fun with it. Well, and you also have your Vegas residencies coming up. You know, I've been seeing Carrie Underwood, like, flying through the air on hers. Are you flying through the air on yours? Well, I do go up on some scaffolding,
Starting point is 00:14:41 and we've got some, you know, that's the thing about Vegas. They're like, come to Vegas, you know, you could just put on a great show. You don't have to spend a lot of money on production. And then everybody else gets in a show content. where they want the best show, but Carrie's show is amazing. And, you know, I don't hook to like cables or anything, but we've got a lot of fire, a lot of pyro. I think, I'm pretty sure Carrie's got like waterfalls and stuff like that. I mean, I feel like we need to see Luke
Starting point is 00:15:09 Brian flying through the air. No, I need to. I'm all good. You need to stay on the ground. I don't, you know, me in a, like a, what is it, a corset or whatever. Yeah. I don't need that that under my jeans. Okay, that's fair. I'm having trouble enough getting in these damn things. Oh, yeah, you regret doing the tight jeans when you first started in the career. You're like, dang. Now I've got to keep that up. Yeah, I do have some rapid-fire questions for you, and we're going to wrap this up because they're telling me I got to go with you. You're a very famous man.
Starting point is 00:15:34 You have lots to do. Let's do it. Sing to me the Christmas song that's in your head right now. I'm dreaming of Christmas. Oh, it's so beautiful. It better be. Yeah. Can we get some more Luke Brian Christmas song?
Starting point is 00:15:53 So I think we need that. Go check out my O Holy Night. I crushed it. I bet you did. Nobody's talking. Make people talk about it. Okay, well make people talk about, hey, Luke Brian, oh, holy night, go listen to it.
Starting point is 00:16:02 It's awesome. It's my best work. Last meal on Earth. What do you having? Ooh, probably movie popcorn or some oysters. Oh, those are very different things. Yeah, very different. Both salty.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Okay, but maybe together? Oceans and beer. I cheese oysters and beer. Okay. All right, I like it. And what's the coolest? phone number you have in your phone? Coolest phone number.
Starting point is 00:16:26 It might get a little, I've got some pretty damn good ones. Hey, you can give me a few. I'll take a few. Me and Mark Wahlberg, we chat a little. What are you chatting with Mark Wahlberg about? Mark and Mark? Don't worry about it. Just know what happens.
Starting point is 00:16:40 You got some text messages going back and forth? I got them. I got them. All right, that's a pretty cool one. Investments. Moving, shaking, movies. Making some money?
Starting point is 00:16:50 Not yet. We're working on it. Okay. Any other ones? Or is Mark the Golden one? He's pretty good one. Okay. I've got some other ones.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Might be a little, might be some that a little controversial. Got to leave them out. Oh, yeah. We've got to be careful of that. Can't get you in trouble again, okay? Luke, it's so good to see you. Good to see y'all. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:17:12 Don't miss the 56 annual CMAs live on ABC. Tomorrow night. At 8-7 Central. Morgan here with Kelsey Valerie. How are you? My friend. I'm good. You look gorgeous. Thank you. It's the spray tan, the nails, you know, everything's the same way.
Starting point is 00:17:25 It's the fact that it's early in the morning and we haven't, like, melted yet. Yeah, basically. You know, I haven't stepped outside and, like, shadowed myself. Exactly. Same, same, same. You just put out a new album, Heart First, and it's so good. I listen to this album on repeat, but I cannot help but notice. There's so much influence of Shania. There is. Tell me what that's been like for you. I feel like Shania is so much a part of your career now, and you are just as big of a fan as I am. That has to be a big thing for you.
Starting point is 00:17:50 It is. You know, I think just 90s country in general was such an influence of this record because during the pandemic, I, instead of listening to like new releases coming out, I went back to comfort. I went back to what I grew up on because it just felt safe, you know? And so naturally as I was writing the record, I'm influenced by what I'm listening to, 90s country. And that's Trisha and that's Faith and that's Jodi Messina and that is Shania. And so I think you hear all of that throughout the record. But Shania, like we go way back. And I say that with like stars in my eyes because I don't even know how that's a real thing, but she's just, like, she's shown up for me in a lot of ways, and, like, she's allowed me to, like, share the stage with her and and then, like, honor her at the ACM honors this year. And, like, off camera, like, we've had so many, like, wonderful heart to hearts. And she's just a really wonderful, smart, resilient woman. And I hope to be, like, half of the human she is. The woman in her that she is. The woman and her, yes. We had to make that connection. Yeah, good call, good call. You know, you've also I also had a really just huge year in general, and a lot of things have been happening,
Starting point is 00:18:54 and it's really easy to focus on the hard things, but I want you to focus on what's the best thing that's happened this year. Oh my gosh. It's hard to pinpoint one specific thing. I think just like this last season has been really beautiful to see people show up like they have. And I think being able to see that through putting out their record and starting a tour right afterwards. It's just been like I felt really like on path,
Starting point is 00:19:26 I guess, and that's felt really good. Oh, I love to hear that. That's an exciting part for any artists, but especially just at this point in your career too, I imagine. Yeah. I like asking this question. You've been touring and you're basically an expert at this point. What's the hardest thing about touring that we don't get to see? Trying to find where to use the bathroom in the morning. Okay. Yes, that has to be difficult. Do you have to run through arenas to try and find a bathroom. You do. You too. Okay, there's stories there and I feel it, but I'm not going to make you
Starting point is 00:19:56 talk about them. Love that. Okay, see, we don't see that and everybody thinks it's very glamorous. Yeah, I mean, no, backstage is not cute. And I feel like everyone thinks it's like this, like, glamorous thing. I think when you're like a superstar, like, and you can have like a vibe room and a green room and pipe and drape it and like put cute lamps and couches in, that's cute. I'm not there yet. So backstage is not cute. You know, there was one time I went backstage and I saw Sting set up and I would have thought that you took his home and basically placed it backstage. That's what I'm saying. There's a level of touring where you're like, this is luxury. But you are not there yet. Not yet. Knock on wood one day, I can have a couch with me.
Starting point is 00:20:31 Hey, we'll manifest that for you. We'll put that out into the universe. And I do have some rapid fire, just fun questions for you. I love these, yes. Sing to me the Christmas song that's in your head right now. Rudolph the Red Nose Rained-Rindoo had a very shiny nose. Oh yes, that was so good. Now I need a Kelsey Christmas album. I actually want to do one, I think. Yes? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Maybe not soon. I think that's maybe like a later in life thing, but I do want to do one one day. I believe it. I'm a sucker for Christmas. I'm with you. It's like everything about it is just very joyful. Magical. Yes.
Starting point is 00:21:03 Last meal on earth. We're talking like, however you want to picture this, whether you're dying of old age or something else. Last meal on earth, what are you having? Habachi. And you know like a spicy mayo that they put on the side? No, drench it. All right. You like watching them cook it too?
Starting point is 00:21:19 I do. like all the tricks, like where they put the rice. And the onion flies in the air and you're like, where to go? Yep. In the onion volcano, all of it. Love that. The hat tricks of it all. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:30 And what is the coolest phone number you have in your phone? Oh, gosh. I don't know. Everyone, Taylor, everyone wants that. Taylor. Okay. Taylor Swift. You're on a first name basis.
Starting point is 00:21:42 You said just Taylor. Taylor. There's no other Taylor. It's Swift. Love that. You know what I mean? Yes, it absolutely is. And, you know, I have to ask.
Starting point is 00:21:50 What's your favorite song on midnight? That's what I was about to happen. That's what I was about to ask. Okay, my favorite is midnight rain. What is your favorite? Oh, it's definitely vigilante shit. Yep, you said it for me. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:21:59 I said it for you. Yeah. Is that the one where it's like, draw the cat eyes shop and let's a kill me? I mean, I just love that season of life, whatever it is. I'm like, every time I'm like getting ready, I'm just listening to that record. Absolutely. Okay, we're swifties. We're swifties.
Starting point is 00:22:10 We're trying to find bathrooms and we're enjoying life right now. That's where we're at. That's the vibe. Yes, absolutely. Kelsey, it's great to see you. Good to see you too. The CMAs are live. Tomorrow.

Starting point is 00:23:34 And now for a bit of breaking news between your breaking news. With me, the Geico Gecko. Here are some things you ought to know today. People who switch their car insurance to Geico save about $900 a year. Experts are calling that nice to know. Also, plants can hear when bees buzz. My phycas just heard that. And finally, animal experts have confirmed that goats have regional accents.
Starting point is 00:23:59 I'm getting a hint of Irish there. It feels good to get good news. It feels good to Geico. Hey, everyone, it's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Earsay, the Audible and I-Heart Audio Book Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook Project Hail Mary, massive sci-fi adventure about survival and science, and what happens when you wake up alone very far from Earth? I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat
Starting point is 00:24:33 and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections. And it's like, okay, yo, yeah, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no, at this point, it would kind of be betrayed. the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that deeply emotionally affected me, and I left it on the mic. That's great. Because it served the story.
Starting point is 00:24:57 People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too. Listen to Earsay, the Audible and IHeart Audio Book Club on the IHeart Radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. It's Lunchbox. Cody Johnson here, man. Dude, it's like you're the biggest thing in country music. You know that? Can I quote you on that?
Starting point is 00:25:15 Yeah. And I mean, that's my next Instagram post is you saying that. Do you feel the pressure of being that big of a celebrity? No, man. I think where I'm at in my career is where people start drinking the Kool-Aid. And I just don't, I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid. It is what it is, man. I've worked my whole life to get here.
Starting point is 00:25:35 Why foul it up? You know, just enjoy it, appreciate it. Because you guys know, we've talked a lot, you know, after being an independent artist for so long, there wasn't an acceptance of Texas in this hat and me for a long time. For the last two days being here, acceptance and love is the only words I can describe it with. It feels really great. But speaking a little bit, does it feel good to drink the Kool-Aid to know that I'm a big deal? It's not like in private, like, at the hotel room with my wife, I'm like, this is incredible. Okay, because you go from, right, right, where do you stay?
Starting point is 00:26:11 now. Do you stay at the Four Seasons? No. I'm not going to say where I stay because you all keep y'all be showing. That's probably a good idea. But I'm saying... I usually actually stay on my tour bus. It used to be, you know what I mean? Like, okay, man, I may stay at the Lakinta. Oh, there's a Ramada. And now you're just like, Four Seasons or Waldorf Astoria. Man, I didn't get this far acting like that. I'm not going to start acting like that
Starting point is 00:26:32 now. I'm just me, man. But don't you spend more money now? Do you buy yourself nicer things? Well, I don't know. I'll buy my wife nicer things. Well, unless we're going to talk about horses, that's all. whole different subject. That's a lot of money. Yes, I do. Except I have to feed them. What's the night?
Starting point is 00:26:47 Okay, not horses. Have you splurged on like a fancy car, a vacation home? When I got my first, when I got my first number one. Thank you. Until you can't. I did buy that watch. Oh, man, that looks like a timex. Yeah, it's a really nice timex.
Starting point is 00:27:03 It's a gold timex that keeps on ticking. And that was my one splurge. And I was like, you know what? That'll be my thing. And I'll commemorate that. and when I hand it down to my kids someday, I'll be like, I bought that when I got my first number one on country radio. Being rich, right? How do you teach your kids that just because we're rich, you can't act rich?
Starting point is 00:27:21 My kids have no idea how much money we have. Like, they have no clue whether we're poor or well off. Like, they work. Like, you're going to go clean your room. You're going to help me with the horse stalls. You're going to work. And, Dad, I want this for Christmas. Well, get your grades up.
Starting point is 00:27:36 You know, like, we're not going to do anything differently. We're very down to earth, man. Like, it would blow your mind if you knew, like, how normal. I mean, I know. I'm like, super, super down the same thing. I'm, like, I'm the same way as you are. Like, I try to keep it down earth. I drive an 05 ultima, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:27:49 I still go to my kids, like, daycare and pick them up. You know what I mean? And I try to keep it normal. But I worry about, like, the teachers and, like, the other parents, like, treating your kids differently because you're Cody freaking Johnson. Dude, okay, so it does get weird for my kids. Like, they'll try to talk to my kids about dad. And I'm like, I'm like, dude, the other day we're getting into it. We're getting in the truck from a restaurant in town.
Starting point is 00:28:12 And I get in the pasture seat. My wife's driving. My oldest, Claremay, is getting in the back seat back here. And this guy rolls his window down. And he goes, holy shit, is that Cody Johnson? And she looks at him and she goes, and just closes the door. And I'm like, yes. I mean, no offense to any fans out there.
Starting point is 00:28:31 But, like, my 7-year-old looked like a gangster when she did that. That's awesome. Yeah, because, like, I mean, when people see me out in public and they're like, is that lunchbox? And my four-year-old's like, that's dad-da. That's dad. You know what I mean? And he doesn't get it.
Starting point is 00:28:43 And I'm like, see, I'm trying to keep. My five-year-old is like completely oblivious. She's like, she's got her like, she still talks. Like, she's got her eyes a little bit. Why people won't take pictures we use so much. And that look, I'm like, I don't know, babe. Yes. Because I'm such a good-looking guy, I guess.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Now, does it interrupt family time? How does that work with you? If you're out with your family and someone comes up and says, hey, Cody, can I get a picture? Man, I'm a gentleman. and I really try to keep it like I always want to treat people how I want to be treated. It may be interrupting my meal, but the opposite of people wanting to take pictures with you is nobody wants to take a picture with you. Now, that being said, this guy's going to wind up seeing this interview and he is going to know it's him. I love it.
Starting point is 00:29:19 I got stopped in the bathroom. I'm at the urinal. Been there. Doing the thing at the urinal. And the guy said, hey. But he waited to take a picture? No, he said, can we get a picture? And I was like, can we go outside?
Starting point is 00:29:30 Like, can I watch my hand? I thought like take a picture of what? That one freaked me out a little bit. I'm like, so note to fans like, let me pee. Yeah, stay away from them at the urinal because I've had people take a picture of me taking a pee. Are you serious? I swear to God, they took a picture of me in a bar on 6th Street. I'm going to need my management to approve that.
Starting point is 00:29:51 And I'm like, but I didn't know about it until they go and post it later, you know what? That's great. They didn't even say anything. You're standing a scratching your ear in. And it's like, well, there's a picture of me at the urinal. Okay, that's very awkward. It's about like these when you get a picture of yourself eating you. Yes.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Halfway to your mouth. Now, would you rather someone snap a picture from afar or actually just come up and talk to you? I'd just come up and talk to me. It's like I had a guy at the airport coming up here. He walks up to me. You don't fly private? Big guy. I do sometimes.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Okay. All right. I was like, goodness gracious. Dude, that's really expensive. My goal is to get to where I can fly private and you're at that level. I'm like, what are you doing to a commercial? Maybe next year. Come on.
Starting point is 00:30:27 So I go with, I'm walking into the airport and this guy's big guy. He's got this tattoo of this little girl on his arm. And he walks up to me and he just says, hey, man, I lost my daughter last year. And he's like, your song till you can't pulled me out of a really bad spot. I just wanted to say thanks. And I shook his hand and it may be like, it touched me. I was like, but that was it. It was very short and sweet.
Starting point is 00:30:46 And I'm like, that inspires me. I love that kind of stuff, man. That makes me keep going. Oh, that's a sad. I mean, that's an awesome story, but a sad story. Yeah. And it's going to be a sad day when we lose you because eventually one day we're going to lose you, right? And so you're about to kick the bucket, right?
Starting point is 00:30:59 What would be your last meal? Oh. Like, give me a mescan food plate and a margarita and I'm good. See, that's what I'm talking about. Nice little, you want frozen on the rocks. I don't need filet mignon, all that fancy wagos to. Give me some, like, some barbacoa enchiladas with some charo beans, little cilantro and onion on top.
Starting point is 00:31:20 And Don Julio and Yeho with a splash of Grand Marneille on the rocks. Boom, that's what I'm talking about. Let me go to heaven happy. Go to heaven happy. That's what I'm saying. And I want you to tell me this is going to make me happy, okay? your cell phone. I worry about this now.
Starting point is 00:31:33 No, no, no. Your cell phone is probably full of celebrities. Now, you know, you've come up the range. You have the Texas country. Now you're big, like, who's the coolest celebrity you got in your phone? Ronnie Dunn's pretty cool. That's pretty awesome. Yeah, like just normal down to earth texting about horses and just a super cool guy.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Did you slide into his DMs or how does that happen? I'm just talking, you know, and my wife looks over my shoulder. I'm like, it's Ronnie Dunn. It's not a big deal. Don't worry about it. Hey, it's not another woman. It's Ronnie Dunn. Don't worry about it. Nothing to be jealous over here about. All right. And happy holidays to you.
Starting point is 00:32:05 Thank you, bro. When you hear Christmas, what's the first Christmas song that pops in your head? Dude, it's going to be really, really weird. But if we make it through December, the Merle Haggard song. If you ever listen to it, I recorded it on my Christmas album. He says, my little girls don't understand why Daddy can't afford no Christmas cheer. And I'm like, that's a Christmas song. And we play it all year long and nobody gets it. I'm like, that's the damn Christmas song. Is Home Alone a Christmas movie? Home Alone's a great movie I don't know I'll watch it all year long
Starting point is 00:32:33 I guess I Not yeah Because Bobby Is Batman or what is it Die Hard? Is that a Christmas movie? That's a great question
Starting point is 00:32:41 Because Bobby says Home Alone is not a Christmas movie And so we're talking I just wonder What is Dude Christmas vacation is the best Christmas movie ever So Chevy Chase
Starting point is 00:32:48 Hit the nail on the head right there All right I was told I only have four minutes I think I went way over that Cody Johnson Thank you very much Thank you for being so awesome And great at everything you do
Starting point is 00:32:57 All right Don't miss the 56 annual CMAs live on ABC Tomorrow night At 8 7 Central Hi everyone, it's Bailey Zimmerman Nope, I'm not Bailey Zimmerman You are I'm Morgan
Starting point is 00:33:10 I just did that on purpose No I really didn't No it's fine No it's okay You just made me nervous Because I'm really excited for you this week We were talking about how I saw you at Whiskey Jam And now you're doing CMA remotes
Starting point is 00:33:21 How does that feel like you just skyrocketed this year? Yeah big step to CMAs You know it's crazy I've had a really good time. I've been just having fun and just enjoying everything trying to. Yeah, you're also breaking so many streaming records, just having a crazy year.
Starting point is 00:33:38 You told us on the show that you really love. The whole purpose of this is for people to hear your music. What's been kind of the coolest fan story you've maybe heard of people hearing your music? Honestly, just hearing, first thing is seeing them cry in the front stands to songs and just seeing like, holy, crap, they actually really, really relate to this and, like, I've been through it.
Starting point is 00:34:00 And then hearing just stories, just about relationships that have gone south and, like, how, man, there was one that was, I had one at a show, and this dude had been married for, like, 30-something years. And then, I guess something happened, and she, like, went really crazy and, like, freaked out and, like, took all of their money, took all of his stuff, took his house, and stuff, and he was just like, dude, your song has just, like, really helped me out. And, like, I cry to your song. Wow. A grown man cried to your song.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Does that feel good for you? Yeah, well, because I'm a grown man, and I cry to my songs. And it's cool to see that people out there still, like, do relate to music in that way, you know. Absolutely. If there's a song that you really relate to this year, that isn't your own. What is it? Thoughts you should know. Nice.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Why is that the song? because sometimes I take my mom for granted and as we all do you know and it just makes me cry because it's like yo I thought you should know you know like you praying every night like it doesn't go unnoticed you know like those prayers get sent through and like you know I'm still trying to figure out life so it just reminds me that don't take her for granted and always try to call her and tell her lover and stuff. So basically what we have learned is call your mother, call your mom or your father. Yep. Important lessons. Yep. You also wrote a song with Morgan Wallen, both of you of which had had crazy years. Do you guys sit in a room and you're like, dang, we're really cool, or is it
Starting point is 00:35:36 just like you're hanging out with a good friend? Um, so actually, I've never even written with him. What? It's in your, it's in the sheet about you. So, so actually, um, that song was a graveyard song that he had written a long time ago. And then Sergio Sanchez, the producer that helped him a lot and was in his band when he came to town. Still great friends with him. Was like, hey man, I've got this song. Dude, we should try to rewrite it and, like, write it. So then Morg was, like, cool with it.
Starting point is 00:36:03 So then we rewrote it one day. And then I loved the, because his melody was, drink a little more, yeah. Oh, my, my drink a little more, yeah, smoke a little more, yeah. And I loved that so much because I don't talk about drinking in my songs. Okay, this is an interesting fact. I just loved that melody in the way he did it. So I kept it in there and we like. did it all. And then, yeah, but I've met him and, like, we like text and stuff. He's great. He's
Starting point is 00:36:28 literally like the best. He's taught me so much and just, like, really helped me out with understanding just logistics and stuff and, like, the industry part of it. And, like, you know, very good advice. He's been through a lot, so. Yeah, for sure. It's definitely important to have a mentor in country music. Sounds like that's what he is. And why don't you write about drinking in your songs? What's that connection? Well, because, um, honestly, just straight up, I feel. I feel. I feel like everybody talks about drinking and my grandma hates drinking. My grandma hates it and I don't really, all right, I go out and I will get drunk and I will have a good time, but I don't personally love drinking so much.
Starting point is 00:37:07 I don't like go man, let's go drink beer, you know. I need a beer right now. I don't love that. I don't. And personally, my experiences with relationships and stuff like that was more like afterwards talking to my mom. I didn't go get drunk. my mom, just about life and stuff.
Starting point is 00:37:24 So I'm more feelings, not go get drunk because my heart's broke. I'm more like, damn, I kind of still love you, though. So basically, you're a very deep soul. And we need to call our moms and dads. These are the lessons I'm learning just from hanging out with you for like two minutes. Yep. Is that what you want me to learn? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:41 Call your mom. Call your dad too, but call your freaking mom because she worries about you. Okay, I have a few rapid fire questions for you. Can you sing me the Christmas song that's stuck in your head right now? Um I don't have a Christmas song I'm sorry Okay hey we can sing together
Starting point is 00:37:56 You want to sing jingle bells together You ready? Jingle bells Jingle bells jingle all the way See hey yours was even better than mine That was better Okay last meal on earth That you will ever have
Starting point is 00:38:08 What would it be? Cheesy potatoes made by my mom I have never told anybody this But I personally love Sourcrow Hot dogs Chopped up and mashed potatoes all mixed together.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Interesting combination. It's so good. And I do that with cheesy potatoes and broccoli casserole. Green bean casserole. Wow. Okay, we got all the comfort foods, I feel like, that you just told me. Yep. Good, and I don't know if I'll ever try that, but I appreciate you sharing with me.
Starting point is 00:38:35 You really should. I mean, it's kind of higher. Okay, I'll try. Why don't I just trust you on that one? Just try it. Okay. And coolest phone number and your phone right now? Chief Saruk.
Starting point is 00:38:46 Wait, who is that? That's my manager. Oh, I was like, who is that? He's really, really, really, really bad at. Okay, he's the coolest one on your phone, even though you have Morgan Wallen in your phone, too? Hey, Morgan's badass, but Chief is sick. Okay, I'll believe you. We'll just trust you on that.
Starting point is 00:38:59 But, Bailey, it was good to hang out with you. Yeah, thank you so much. Broadcasting from the 56th annual CMA Awards. It's the Bobby Bones show. I'm Morgan here right now with Parker McCollum. How are you? I'm so good, thank you. It's good to see you.
Starting point is 00:39:12 The last time I saw you was on stage at your sold-out show at Ascend in Nashville, and I have never seen a crowd so wild, Parker. They were good that night, no doubt. I mean, there was girls throwing bras on stage. Yes, ma'am. Is that a normal night for you on tour? It's pretty much every night right now, yes, ma'am. And, you know, I saw guys, which is funny,
Starting point is 00:39:35 because there's only one other time I've really seen this in concert at a Morgan Wallen concert, that I've seen the guys almost more obsessed with you than the girls. Does that feel weird? No, it's, I just, I guess, I guess, I guess I can kind of relate. I have artists that I'm that way about that are grown in. And, you know, I kind of always go out of my way and try to find some time during the year to go to their show and listen to the songs that I love. So to get to experience both sides of that and also have people coming to my show and love my songs, regardless of whether they're college dudes or girls or grandpals or grandmalls or grandmalls, it don't matter.
Starting point is 00:40:09 It's all a good problem to have. And what artists would you do that for it? If we see Parker McCollum in a crowd going crazy, what's the artist on stage? George Strait is definitely up there. John Mayer's up there. Rodney Crowe be up there. Hayes Carl, Chris Knight, Steve Earl. That's a long list. I got a lot of favorites.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Yeah, and you did tell me you once fell asleep. You were on the show talking to Bobby about how you... I just yawned. I didn't fall asleep. I just yawned. Well, you felt like you fell asleep because he noticed and he paid attention to the fact that you were very bored at his show. John Mayer.
Starting point is 00:40:39 And I really was not bored. We had just swung in off the road, and I was tired. And I was front road, dead center in front of his mic. and I just let a little yawn out and he called me out for it. Have you got to reconciled with John Mayer since that happened? No, no, no, I don't meet your heroes. You know, if you do, just making a handshake and hello, how are you doing and keep going? You don't want it.
Starting point is 00:40:59 I still, you know, am influenced by those guys so much. And I kind of relate it. It sounds goofy, but kind of to the Santa Claus concept, you know, you don't want them to be real. You need them to remain like superhero figures in your mind that you're chasing. and after and I think once they become real people to you that that changes a little bit you kind of realize that they're just a normal person and I would like to just remain believing that they are superheroes so you mean to tell me if george straight asked you to come over some night have a have a have a beer with them and sit and watch some football you're going to say no incorrect I'd probably go but
Starting point is 00:41:36 but I certainly you know I that would be a very I don't know it just I idolize those guys and and I have for a long time and then have so much respect for them and the lengthy careers they've had and the quality of records that they continue to put out for decades. And I try to emulate that and I have those same aspirations for myself. And I just need them to remain like superheroes in my mind. Hey, I get it. I'm just making sure. Yes, ma'am. If George hears this, that we're clear on where you stand.
Starting point is 00:42:06 I don't think he will, but if he does, I would love to have a beer with George. But we'd probably be drinking code ago if we were drinking something. That is true. Some tequila. Is that your, do you have a drink of choice when you're on the road? I don't. I really, I don't, alcohol's never really been my thing. I will every now and then.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Astro's won the World Series other night, and I had quite a few. Probably a couple too many. But I don't, I love a smoked old fashion if I'm really going to have something fancy and boozy. Okay, I like that, and that feels very Parker McCollum for me. Thank you. Should I say, Gold Chain Cowboy? Yes, ma'am. We'll take it.
Starting point is 00:42:42 Absolutely. Are you working on some new music that fans, are probably going to freak out about? I don't know. I hope they freak out about it. I'm certainly my own worst critic. Oversink it all in my own head way too much. And it feels like pulling teeth
Starting point is 00:42:57 every time I put a record out and trying to decide if a song is good enough to go on a record. So hopefully they think they're all good. I bet they will. Trust me. I saw the guys. I think you're good.
Starting point is 00:43:07 I think you're good for several years to come. You're also a newly married man. Have you learned anything new and married life? You know, I live a lot cleaner life now. It seems that my productivity has skyrocketed since I've kind of been or become a little more grounded, which is really nice. Yeah, absolutely. I do feel like that is a common theory I hear from men when they get married. Business is noticeably better.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Well, hey, that's good, right? Yes, ma'am. I'm making sure it's a good thing. Life is good. I have some rapid-fire questions to ask you, too. sing to me the Christmas song that's in your head right now. I'll be fine and dandy. Lord, it's like a hard candy Christmas.
Starting point is 00:43:55 I'm barely getting through tomorrow, but still I won't let sorrow bring you way down. Wow. I mean, I'll just let you sing Christmas songs all day. Honestly, I can sit here and listen to that all day. That's my favorite one. Dolly's a goat. Yeah, I mean, wow.
Starting point is 00:44:10 Will you ever put out Christmas music? No, ma'am. No? No, ma'am. But you sound so good on Christmas songs. Oh, thank you. Well, maybe just that one. Maybe a cover. Maybe a cover. Okay. Last meal on Earth. What are you having?
Starting point is 00:44:21 Last meal on Earth. I'm probably having Terry Black's barbecue on Barton Springs Boulevard in Austin, Texas. Very specific. I like it. Is there any sides to come with that? Their sides are the best. It's the best barbecue spot in the country. I've eaten. I feel like every top notable barbecue joint in the country and nothing even holds a candle to Terry Black. Okay, well, I think we're all going to now have to go to Texas just for that barbecue. Barden Springs Boulevard, Austin, Texas, moist brisket with the cream corn and the Spanish rice is phenomenal. There we go. Perfect meal.
Starting point is 00:44:55 And what's the coolest phone number you have in your phone? The coolest, I don't know, probably Pat Mahomes. That's a pretty cool one. He gave my dad tickets to the game Sunday night and hooked him and his buddies up and had him out to the game, so that was pretty cool. Yeah, that's pretty awesome. Nice. Okay, well, Parker, thank you so much for hanging out with us. No, thanks for having me. Keep having fun on the road and enjoying all the awesome fans who really love you. Yes, ma'am. Thank y'all. Don't miss the 56 annual CMAs live on ABC. Tomorrow night.

Because it served the story. People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too. I don't know how they let me in this building,
Starting point is 00:49:08 but I'm here. one question for you, and it's going to be kind of awkward, and I don't want to weird you out. But if you have something in your teeth, do you want people to tell you or not tell you? It's uncomfortable both ways. Both are a lose-lose, but I'd rather get it out of my teeth. Okay, because I just ate lunch. Like, I had to run over there eating lunch. Are you saying so I'm not wearing my gold teeth?
Starting point is 00:49:24 I'm going to ask you to check my teeth. Yeah. Oh, dang it. But you never know. That's what I'm saying. Sometimes people are like, you have somebody in teeth. I'm like, that's my tooth. Yeah, because, I mean, I was over there eating lunch.
Starting point is 00:49:34 I was like, I don't have any mirrors. You look good. You look good. You look good. Well, thank you. Just go like this if you're nervous. Hide your face. But I don't like hiding my face because I have a beautiful face.
Starting point is 00:49:45 You're beautiful. You don't need to. I'm such a handsome young man. You know what I'm. You know what? I cover my teeth with gold and you just have barbecue. Oh, dang it. No, you don't. You look good.
Starting point is 00:49:54 You look down. How do you get gold teeth made? Like, where did you get those made? Do you just go to a regular dentist? Do you have to go to... No. This is a guy in New York and he, like, comes to your hotel room and sticks his stuff in your teeth. And a few weeks later, you get, like, gold with diamonds.
Starting point is 00:50:07 in it. How much does a set of gold teeth cost? Because I Come on now. You're not going to tell me. No, it's like rent. Wait, wait, wait. But you never know which city. No, no, no. It's a ridiculous amount of, it's so stupid. But I don't wear like a lot of crazy jewelry so I just put up my teeth. I don't have a lot of teeth left.
Starting point is 00:50:25 So the ones I have left, I try to decorate them. Because that's cool. Like I see that and I'm like, man, that's kind of fun. Is it? I don't know. Well, I mean, I don't have tattoos. See, I'm kind of boring. Like, I don't have tattoos. You should just get a gold tooth, man. That's what I'm saying. If I rolled out somewhere and I just,
Starting point is 00:50:39 uh, gold tooth it. They did. They do them at a dentist. I just never go to the dentist, so I wouldn't know. What a part of your career, like,
Starting point is 00:50:47 what gets old? Like, these interviews that you get to do over and over and over again, does this get old? Because I feel like the fun part is getting out and performing, but writing songs, partying, but these boring interviews,
Starting point is 00:50:59 God, they, right, they just kind of... This isn't boring. I'm laughing. No, no, I mean, well,
Starting point is 00:51:04 I know, this one's good, but he's like, I'm not. No, no, no, It's not me.
Starting point is 00:51:08 I'm just saying, I feel bad. For artists, it's like you have to go to these booths over and over and over again. But they're all different. So if you don't have like a rehearsed thing that you're saying, then it's not a loop on repeat. Yes. I guess. I don't know. How many people have asked you to check their teeth today?
Starting point is 00:51:24 You're the first. Okay. Baby, you're my first. Yes, good. I stick out in some way. Now, I got three questions before you go. Rapid fire, okay? Okay.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Your last meal on earth. You know you're about to pass away. I don't know if you're in hospice, electric chair, whichever way you want to go. Taco Bell, Bean Brito, Extra Nached Cheese. That's it? Two of them. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:43 That's legit. Yeah. Then, you know, as you become more famous and you get connections everywhere in the world, who's the coolest celebrity you have in your cell phone? In my cell phone? Yeah, like, that you can call just be like, hey, what up? It's Elle. You think people give me their number?
Starting point is 00:51:57 No. 100% they do. I got some paying people's numbers. Come on. I don't kiss and tell. No, probably Miranda. Lambert. She won't answer my face times because she knows better.
Starting point is 00:52:10 And then the first Christmas song that popped in your head, sing me a little bit. Santa baby, lip was table under the tree for me. Being awful good girls and a baby, birthday's something tonight. And that's El King, everyone. Thank you. I got to go check my teeth. You look good. I felt like they were singing my teeth the whole time.
Starting point is 00:52:34 That's okay. I like it. The CMAs are live. At 8.7 Central on ABC. Before we go any further, are we recording? Do you know our name yet? Yes. Low cash.
Starting point is 00:52:45 Preston and Chris. Hey, you got it. Let me tell you. That's a mic drop. Lunchbox here with low cash. And the reason you guys bring that up is because a couple years ago, Eddie put me on the spot and was like, hey, lunch, what's their names? Yeah, two weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:52:57 And I had no freaking idea. You guessed. It was like Preston and Justin or something. I used something like that. Probably Trevor or something. Yeah, Trevor. Yeah. It was something like that.
Starting point is 00:53:07 But it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Maybe. No. Okay, you can't, here's the thing. You don't look like a name. You want to know what name you look like, whatever your name is. Yeah. That's why I always think when people are like, oh, we're not going to name the baby until we meet it because we want to know what it looks like.
Starting point is 00:53:20 Well, that's a freak out. Yeah. I'll tell you what the baby looks like. An alien. Wow. Tell me it's not true. It does. No, especially my son when he first came out, he had like the elongated head, like Indiana Jones.
Starting point is 00:53:32 Okay. You remember when the head was like that? Yeah. He did the longated head. Wow. Tell me, when you have a child, they. They look like aliens. I'm sorry, people.
Starting point is 00:53:38 Like, it's true. They really do. Like, everybody puts pictures on Facebook. Oh, my baby's so cute. You know what's worse? Still in the aliens. Yeah, they... What?
Starting point is 00:53:46 I didn't really check that out. What did you just call them? I dissect the placenta. I dissected it and looked at it. Tell me why. Did you guys make placenta pills? No, no, no, no. Because there are people that do that eat it and put it in milkshakes.
Starting point is 00:53:57 No, we didn't do that. We thought about it. We thought about doing the pills. It's really cool. It looks like a brain. Like when you take it all the sack and the bottom is so many nerves is like a brain. looks like a brain. You guys got to look at this.
Starting point is 00:54:09 Go look it up on Google or something like that. I think I'm going to pass. I don't think I'm going to look that up. I watch childbirth three times and I don't really have any interesting. That's not anything that's going to be in my search history. I mean, there's worse things in my search history. I get three too. So the first one when it came out, the first percent,
Starting point is 00:54:23 I thought it was something that didn't make it. Yeah. You know, because it just went right after on the table. And you're like, what was that? That didn't make it. Yes. You know? And then I knew what it was.
Starting point is 00:54:32 And then I studied the next two. Yeah, see, the first one, ours was six weeks early. so I was just like, oh my gosh, what are we doing? Like, we didn't even have a car seat. Like we didn't have a bed. We didn't have a crib. We didn't have anything. And my wife's water broke and we were like, uh, uh, uh, uh, like we still think you
Starting point is 00:54:48 have six weeks. Yeah, yeah. We think we have six weeks. I just got back from a three-day bender in Vegas. Oh, boy. And, and so. That's not a good day. No, no.
Starting point is 00:54:56 So I am so just like, oh, my God. I'm falling asleep in the delivery. Like, I'm like, uh, like during labor holding her hand. I'm like nodding off. But literally, we're like, oh, there's no way it's really your water break. and we'll go to the hospital, we'll come home. So we took a computer and two sweatshirts. That was it.
Starting point is 00:55:11 Why did we bring a computer? Like, what are we going to do on the computer? You got a document everything. And then it was, she's having a baby, and it was like, uh, and we had nothing. It was great. Oh, wow. But enough about that. No, that's good, though.
Starting point is 00:55:23 That's fantastic. I got a question about you guys' relationship. Is it more like a brother relationship or a husband-wife? He's definitely my wife. That would definitely not say. I have two minutes to get ready. Two lives. If it takes me two minutes to get ready
Starting point is 00:55:38 Who's the wife? No, no, I understand what you're saying. I'm just saying like, do you fight like brothers or is it more like? It's more like brothers, yeah. Sometimes, sometimes. Like, what is the, okay, what's the one thing you fight about most? Hmm. I'll be honest, we don't fight much.
Starting point is 00:55:54 But is it, one's not on time, one? Yeah, on time, because he's always late. And I'm literally, he's always late, but I'm always too early. Okay. So there's that. What is your rule? If you're 10 minutes early, you're on time. Is that how you live?
Starting point is 00:56:09 So yesterday we had an appointment, and I was 30 minutes early, and he was 30 minutes late. So not always. Well, I was getting impressions. This could start a fight. And I'll tell you what it was. Our tour manager had too much wax in his ear. Oh, man. And he had to get it flushed out.
Starting point is 00:56:26 So now he's late, and he's blaming our tour manager. Because Bobby has a rule. Bobby has a rule that if we're one minute late, he sends us home. I think, I mean, that's kind of how I would be. I hate it, but I would be that way. Like, so literally, if we get there, like, we're supposed to be there. It depends what, there is no, it doesn't matter. One minute late.
Starting point is 00:56:43 Doesn't matter. Go home. Go home. That is rough. You should be there 10 minutes prior. I like it. My kids are the same. They have to be early.
Starting point is 00:56:51 I make them school early. They have to be. My wife hates me because I like to get there early. I just do. And it's, I don't know. My dad set that in stone on me and, you know, be ready to go. So we have a buddy that says you're either early or you're right on time. And if you're right on time, you're late.
Starting point is 00:57:10 I don't like that. That's pretty rough. That is rough. What? That was God. Oh, well, no, my, I appreciate it. If God said that, then, hey, my bad, man. I appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:57:20 Wow, it's in the Bible, actually. It's in Psalms. Old Testament. All right, we are halfway through the football season. You guys are big sports fans. Two teams going to the Super Bowl. Who's winning it? Well, I think Buffalo has.
Starting point is 00:57:33 as this year if they can keep Alan if he's not hurt. Okay. How hurt is he? We don't know. We don't know. That's why it's a guessing in. That's why the fun of sports is the guess. Yeah, but I think Buffalo is definitely a Super Bowl team.
Starting point is 00:57:47 I'm going to say the Buffalo's got it. And the other team, God, I don't want the Eagles. I just don't want the Eagles, but I think they're real. He is really against the Eagles. I can tell he does not like the Eagles. Fly Eagles fly. I'm using the backup Mike to just point things out.
Starting point is 00:58:02 Don't fly anymore for Eagles. Okay. No, they have a, they're a real team, man. Okay. They look good. And before we go, we're going to fly through three quick questions, speaking of the Eagles. Got it. The most famous person you have in your cell phone number.
Starting point is 00:58:17 Like the coolest, like, you're like, oh, that's so cool. Oh, man, I mean, I got a lot of country artists, but. You know what in my? Like outside of country. Everybody, you know, you guys are a big, like, messed up inbred family in the country music world where you all talk to each other. It's true. It's true. I'm trying to think who's in my.
Starting point is 00:58:32 We got some monsters. Do you know who it would be? I mean, we got from tons of sports, a Benetendi, Adamson Mani Machado, let's see, Gronk. Cole Stone, Steve Austin. That's kind of good one. Grong and Stone Cold is pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:58:49 Yeah, those are big ones. Yeah. I mean, we got four-star generals in our phone. Well, I don't know them. I mean, they're cool, but they're not, yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, let's say we're going to lose you guys real soon, you know what I mean? they're giving me the rap signal, but your life is wrapping up. It's your last, you know, moments on earth, and you know it's coming to an end,
Starting point is 00:59:09 and you get to order one last meal. What are you ordering? Cracker Barrow pancakes. Love them. Peanut Butter Cup ice cream. That's it. That's it, buddy. Yeah, we're simple.
Starting point is 00:59:21 That's how I'm going out, bro. I love it. I love it. And then now, with Christmas right around the corner, first Christmas song that pops in your head, sing me a little bit. It's the little sain nick Little Sain Nick It's the little Sain Nick
Starting point is 00:59:37 Little Sane Nick Who Beach voice Merry Christmas Sainit There you never know They said that we could record that song with them So we may go in to do that We may go in to do that
Starting point is 00:59:50 Which is incredible And then also guys This Christmas look under the Christmas tree You may get a placenta Dissected From Chris It looks like a brain I almost threw up a little bit
Starting point is 00:59:59 There's a plastic toy called the placenta toy. Come check it out. That's so gross. Thank you, LoCash. Goodbye, guys. Don't miss the 56 annual CMAs. Live on ABC.
Starting point is 01:00:09 Tomorrow night. At 8-7 Central. What's up, y'all? It's Morgan here with Maddie and Tay. Girls, how are you doing today? Good. How are you? I'm good.
Starting point is 01:00:16 Besides all the crazy technical issues and it's... I know. Awards week and everything is crazy for us. I know that means it's definitely crazy for you guys. Yes. Not too bad, though. It hasn't been too bad. No, yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:26 This is kind of our first thing. And then the awards, then that's always fun. And you guys are nominated this year, another year of a nomination. How does that feel to you guys? I feel like you guys just keep being nominated. Are you ready for the year that it's like, okay, we just want to win? Yes. We're not going to lie.
Starting point is 01:00:41 Yeah. It's been eight years being nominated. But, I mean, obviously nominations always in honor. It's just, we are in a category of really talented duos, so it makes it really difficult to win. But we'll be happy. If we win, that would be awesome. But we're also rooting for our friends, too. Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 01:00:58 But eight years, gosh. Ladies, you deserve a win. Reping the females. Thank you. Thank you. Of course. You know, I also want to hear, too. You guys have had so many exciting things happen.
Starting point is 01:01:09 But let's talk about like the Mount Rushmore of your career. If you guys could choose the four biggest career moments, what would they be? Definitely a girl in country song. Yeah. Going number one. Yeah. I think being on Forbes 30 under 30. Being on Forbes.
Starting point is 01:01:23 Huge. That's amazing. Yeah. That was wild. The Carrie Under Whittor. Yep. And then die from Broken Heart. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:29 That's probably what. I picked. Yeah. Hey, those were so easy to. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. You guys have done some really cool things and it's cool that you have a Mount Rushmore already. Yes, I know. It's been, we've been a duo for 12 years and then been like in the business for what nine or something going on 10. So it's been, we've been very blessed. Yes. And you guys are experienced touring artist at this point. I want to know what's the hardest thing about touring. Oh my gosh. And it's a lot. It can be funny or weird. Showering. Like honestly, yes. Not. Not believe how disgusting the showers are at those venues. Showering and bathroom, like restrooms. Yeah. Like the restroom situation in general is probably one of the hardest things.
Starting point is 01:02:10 Because you like want to shower after a show, but then when you see how like disgusting some of the showers are, you're like, I think I'll be more dirty if I, or it's like a freezing cold shower. So just the creature comforts, you know, you don't really have. So not at all glamorous like they think. No. No, not. It's probably the opposite of glamorous. But the shows are fun, so that pays off. Yes, you're like it balances somewhere, but I have to. Absolutely, yeah. And I do have some fun rapid-fire questions to sing to me the Christmas song that's in your head right now. Probably ours.
Starting point is 01:02:40 And this Christmas will be. We have a version of this Christmas on our record and the shake a hand, shake a hand, shake a hand. We like made up a whole part of this Christmas that's not on the original. I was right to like go into a full chorus with you. I'm sorry. I love you. I'm sorry. I'm not saying no to you.
Starting point is 01:02:56 Oh my gosh. I'm sorry. I left you hanging. No. That's okay. I like it. And hey, that means that's a plug there. Listen for the Christmas song.
Starting point is 01:03:05 Oh, yeah. Yes. Yes. A little Christmas album. Yes. Okay. Last meal on earth. The last thing you're going to eat ever.
Starting point is 01:03:11 What would it be? Gosh. Like kind of like death row dinner kind of thing. Yeah. I'm going to, I don't know what kind of pasta, but some kind of pasta. Yeah. And then like a like raspberry cheesecake for dessert or something. That's nice.
Starting point is 01:03:25 That's great. Loving that. I think I'm going to go like text me. mix fajitas with queso, that would be my jam. Add a margarita? Add a margarita. Why not? Let's do it. You got both two good ones. I just want to be eating with you guys for my last year. You will never struggle with food over here. We pick out really good spots to eat.
Starting point is 01:03:44 What is y'all's weirdest food combination? Ooh, I've got some. Because I know I'll eat like cheese. It's and Nutella sometimes and people are like, what are you doing? I did that when I was pregnant. I'm down to try something like that. Yeah. We don't really eat anything. crazy. I know. I know. I don't have a crazy like combo. You said you did that one when you were pregnant? Oh, I did the weirdest things. Because I wanted to try. I never try like the pickle combination. Ooh, anything with the pickle I'm going to. But like apples and peanut butter. It's
Starting point is 01:04:12 not a weird combination, but that was my go-to and I was pregnant. Yeah. I'm going to try cheese. It's a nutella. It's sweet and salty. A little bit. Nutella's good with everything. Yeah. Right. Yeah. It's bad for you. So it has to be good. Exactly. Exactly. And last one. What is the coolest phone number you have in your phone? Probably Carrie. That is a cool one. Yeah, I think Carrie is one of the coolest for sure. Do you guys ever text each other or is it just more like if you need it, you have the phone number?
Starting point is 01:04:41 You all text each other? Yeah. We'll text like after the CMT awards she called and her son was congratulating us and everything, which was so sweet. So we'll text like here and there. But yeah, I don't want to blow up her phone. Yeah, but did you ever believe in a world that you'd be texting Carrie on? Yeah, it's weird. Like I didn't even put Carrie Underwood in there.
Starting point is 01:05:02 I put Carrie Fisher because like just just Carrie, not like the Carrie Underwood. Just regular old human carry. Well, yeah, because if somebody gets a hold of your phone too, then they have Carrie Underwood's number. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. So, yeah. Oh, well, thank you guys for hanging out with me. Maddie and Tay.
Starting point is 01:05:16 It's always good to see you guys. Nice to see you. Thank you. The CMAs are live tomorrow at 87 Central on ABC. What can I get a picture? Oh, dude, chicken wings. We got jelly roll donuts. We got jelly roll lemonade.
Starting point is 01:05:28 roll Kool-Aid. And you know the difference between Jelly-Role lemonade and Jelly-Role Kool-Aid? It's really Antioch Lemonade and Antioch Kool-Aid, which means it's a whew! You hear me? It is a lot of sugar and a little Kool-Aid. It's more sugar and water. It's awesome.
Starting point is 01:05:43 So do you ever, if I ever show up at the Jelly Roll food truck, is there any chance of jelly-rolls in that food truck? No, well, I'll be in, sometimes when we do shows, I'll hop in it. Like I'll surprise the first fans. Yeah, we brought it the shows. But they run it in Madison. They said it up
Starting point is 01:05:58 and old hickory all the time, Bowling Green, Kentucky. They go back to Antioch all the time, dude. I'll just set that thing up in the parking lot in Antioch and just be out there selling hot wings and casadillas all day. It's awesome. That's badass. It makes me so happy. That's pretty cool.
Starting point is 01:06:11 And that's what boys that you've been friends with for a long time. Yep, and it's all second chance guys like myself. Now, are you... You know how most businesses are like, we can't hire you if you have a felony. Yeah, you're the opposite. We're like, we're only hiring felons. Violent offenders, preferably. Drug dealers second.
Starting point is 01:06:31 No. What else is going on, Jelly Roll? Dude, my first CMA, lunchbox. This is it. It's my first one. What does it feel like to be your first one? I just met Cody Johnson and almost had a real deal like pick him up and swing him around moment.
Starting point is 01:06:43 I was so excited. I've been a fan of his for so long. Like ever since that you can hit an engine running, running, you know, like the first down, the diamond in my pocket stuff. So I was just like, oh my God, Cody Johnson. He's taller than I thought he'd be. Okay. What else?
Starting point is 01:06:55 Maybe the boots. Okay. Sorry, I'm just fan it. No, no, no, I like to hear it. I know this is old for you, like old news, interviewing three times last year. No, no, no, no, no. It's cool to hear someone's first time and to have excitement because most people, when they come in their first time, they're like, oh, I'm just happy to be here and they have no excitement.
Starting point is 01:07:10 And I'm like, guys, be excited. I'm like, who gives a damn? That's when somebody tells you they're having a good day and you're like, could you notify your face? Because your emotions tell me, you're not having very much fun. Oh, you're having fun? Yeah, man, this is a good show. Really? Because you're not moving to the music.
Starting point is 01:07:24 No, no, when they're like, I'm just really, really excited to be. here. It's like you don't fucking look like it. You don't look like you're excited at all. So what else is it? You look like you're standing in line to get a sandwich and you're fin to do the Bobby Bone Show. What is wrong with you? They wonder if they got the personality of a cardboard box and then they wonder why nobody wants
Starting point is 01:07:41 to come watch them sing because God, we've got to listen to you talking between songs. Isn't it crazy? Seriously, isn't it crazy how people can get on stage and they can have number ones and they can be boring as watching paint drive? Could you imagine singing your number? Dude, if I
Starting point is 01:07:57 I get a number one record when I already sing it like it's a number one. I'm going to clinch my butt cheeks together and blow, baby. I'm going to try to throw my voice out. Those guys just up there. And they say it this way. I just want to thank y'all for making this my first number one on country radio. You sound super grateful. Somebody make him go broke again.
Starting point is 01:08:16 He sucks now. I mean, why don't they? Oh, my God, it's my first number one. Thank you. Why do we have anything? That's exactly how I'm going to feel tomorrow on the red carpet. Oh, gosh. I mean, you're going to be going crazy.
Starting point is 01:08:29 You are going to be me and my wife. We're on a red carpet tomorrow. Oh, my gosh. Get ready. Y'all. We're shutting the city down. The carpet's cutting in half, baby. How are you going to smell like the king of pie?
Starting point is 01:08:39 How are you arriving? Like, I want to know how jelly roll is rolling up that regos. If I get the chance to arrive the way I think I'm going to, I'm pulling up in a 1979 Cadillac El Dorado drop top, baby. Me and my wife, she's going to look like a human Barbie doll. I'm going to look like a fat undertaker. I'm going to look like a fat undertaker. look like Johnny Cash if he ate Johnny Cash.
Starting point is 01:08:58 I'm telling y'all, it's going to be awesome, dude. It's going to be a real. You'll see the pictures lunchbox. I'm going to DM you one person. You better send me some. Make sure you don't miss it on your feed. You might see this. I'm excited.
Starting point is 01:09:07 Jelly Roll deems me, I don't miss it. I hired a stylist. I'm so excited, dude. You got a stylist? I do. I got Chris the Rosa. She was there putting the, she was tapering my jeans last night. Listen, I felt like a French king.
Starting point is 01:09:19 I was just in there like, oh, goodness. Boy, I thought about getting a manicure. I mean, that is awesome I swear, dude. Is there anybody that you want to run into? You met Cody Johnson now. So tomorrow night, is there someone like you're going to be like, oh, my God, you're going to try to meet? Almost anybody.
Starting point is 01:09:34 God. Don't let any, like, old school 90s like, don't let Garth or somebody be there. I'll get arrested. I would tackle Garth Brooks right now in front of this crowd. I would run right now. They'd never let me back of Garth. But I don't want to be in the same room with Garth. I have so many stories I want to tell him.
Starting point is 01:09:50 I'm going to bore him to death about just years of. And also equally, make them explain to me why I've got to keep buying these box set CDs. I'm tired of buying them, Garth. I love you, dude. Please, God, give it to me. You too. Pick a platform. Start your own.
Starting point is 01:10:04 But Jesus, don't make me buy another 10-disc set. Where are you going to play that? Because you don't put all the songs on one disc. So I'm just riding like it's 97, flipping, trying to find the one with wild horses on it. Jell-Roll, I love you. They're giving me the rap sim. We're having so much fun. Like you've got to go it.
Starting point is 01:10:22 It's like, guys. Who's behind me? Jordan Davis was over here taking his time. This is discrimination because I didn't play a sport. Did Jordan Davis play a sport? If he didn't, he's a waste of man. Right? But jelly roll, before you go, before you leave here, before you check out of this life, you
Starting point is 01:10:40 know what I mean? It's your last meal on earth. What's jelly roll going to eat? Oh, dude. Last meal on earth? Oh, you can't say that. You can't say that, jelly roll. You can't say that.
Starting point is 01:10:54 I am a happily married man. I am a happily married man, lunchbox. You can't. Who's the coolest celebrity? Who's the coolest celebrity? Who's the coolest celebrity? Who's the coolest celebrity? Who's the coolest celebrity's phone number you have in your phone?
Starting point is 01:11:25 Oh. His left started quivering. His lips started clivering. And I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I'm going to have to leave. Oh, oh, God. Lunchbox. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:41 You're the coolest celebrity in my phone. Am I in your phone? I think so. Heck, yeah. That's what I'm talking about. Show the roll. That's what I'm talking about. I am in your phone.
Starting point is 01:11:52 your phone. I got jelly on the old number because I'm a celebrity, one celebrity of the other, one celebrity of the other. That's what I'm talking about. I love you lunch. Hey, man. And before, before, if I love lunch, but I love you too. And if I don't see you, if I don't see you, if I don't see you, man. I love you, brother. You better see me before Christmas. You're not coming to my Bridgetown show, asshole? Oh, I better be getting tickets to that. Can I get tickets to that? Can I get him on the Bridgestone there? Okay. Hey, but what, what's the one Christmas song that pops in your head? First Christmas song. Let me hear a little bit. I've been dreaming of a white Christmas
Starting point is 01:12:23 Or you know what my daddy used to sing It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas That's the two I'll always think of Jelly roll With chestnuts roasting on an open fire You know what I don't think of? What? Because I don't want to think about slitting my wrist
Starting point is 01:12:37 All I want for I'm just writing bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. Always a pleasure, Broadcasting from the 56th annual CMA Awards. It's the Bobby Bonds show. Morgan here right now with Midland. Guys, how are you? It feels like I haven't seen you in a hot minute.
Starting point is 01:12:57 It's been a minute. Yeah. Yeah, what have you been up to? Oh, this and that. Having kids, playing red rocks, continuing our dominance in the tequila business. Launch a new album. Launching new albums.
Starting point is 01:13:12 Greetings from a new single, Longneck Way to Go, with our buddy John Party. It's been an action-packed year. We're coming to the end of literally an international tour. And we are very excited about, we're going to have volley this whole sentence back and forth. And we're very excited about the things that we've done and the places that we plan on going.
Starting point is 01:13:34 You know, that was such a typical answer that I'm totally going off of that now. We're going to go and talk about this international tour. What was it like for your eyes touring international versus touring in the States? the money looks different that is probably true i would believe that yeah what was like the weirdest thing you guys experienced you're like wow we weren't anticipating that oh well hold let's think about this i don't know about the weirdness but the fans over there you know we had we had canceled and
Starting point is 01:14:01 um and reschedule that tour three times first because of me having a child second because of covid and thirdly because of covid again um so by the time we got over there there was in anticipation, I felt like there was a frenzy. And I will say that I feel like it was, as far as a tour goes, it was probably the most fun I've ever had on tour. Did you guys have a Justin Bieber moment where you're like, oh my gosh, these fans are crazy? Kind of, yeah. I mean, they were, they were, you know, you felt like, you know, you felt like the Rolling Stones come into America for the first time, like a reverse stones, I guess. So yeah, it was, it was great. It's been a great year to cap it with three
Starting point is 01:14:42 CMA nominations by our peers is really cool. We don't have to perform, so we're going to be partying and have a good time, and hopefully we'll win one, a couple. A couple, two, three. Maybe a hat trick, get all three of them. Okay, yeah, having some tequila, like you mentioned, right? Yeah. And why did you guys get into the tequila business?
Starting point is 01:15:04 Where did that come from? I love tequila. We all drank tequila. I mean, honestly, I'll speak for myself. Whiskey makes me tired. If I drink whiskey, I'm done by like 11 p.m. If I drink tequila, I'm the last man standing, usually. I think you're going to go through, like, all of them.
Starting point is 01:15:24 Chin makes me cranky. Bokka makes me violent. You know what you're good at, right? Beer makes me belchy. We all love tequila, and it was kind of actually a dream of ours to be able to actually go. down, you know, to that region. We've, we, uh, our tequila is a, um, is a collaboration between us and the Herrera brothers who have the highest elevation distillery in, in Mexico.
Starting point is 01:15:52 It's a world consequently. Sevent 200 feet, yeah. Wow. About three hours outside of Guadalajara. And we went down there and, and got to work with them. And it was so, it was such a cool experience to go down there and get to build the tequila that we wanted to drink. Um, every morning.
Starting point is 01:16:08 afternoon and night every day. That is certified additive free, and we've won two gold medals at the SIP Awards, which is like winning an EGOT. That's even more exciting than an award, right? It's pretty cool. I mean, it is. Yeah, it's the, it's the EGOT of Tequila.
Starting point is 01:16:23 Yeah, see, that's a big deal. I mean, it sounds like you guys have done just about everything. So what's something you could do now that would top any of that? An actual EGOT. Oh, that's fair. That's the triple crown. The quadruple. But ours would be actually a, well, how would you put an ACM and a CMA in front of that?
Starting point is 01:16:44 Well, also a C&T. And also technically a Moonman. This guy's one, and a Soul Train. So for you would be all of them. That'd be amazing. And I won the Presidential Physical Fitness Award when I was 11. Wow. For my running times and my sit-ups, okay.
Starting point is 01:17:04 Okay, wait, is this an actual award? We're going to have to go with a new acronym for the first. This. That was a real thing. Yeah, yeah. And it was just at your school? Was it in the state? It was at his parents' house. It was out of my entire school, which was 45 kids.
Starting point is 01:17:17 So, you know, it was the best of 45 kids. How do you even remember that? I can't even remember something. For me, it was a huge moment of my life. It's like, you know, getting nominated for three CMAs and then winning that presidential physical fitness award. I mean, that's very front of mind for you. I still have it.
Starting point is 01:17:30 It's signed by George H. Bush. Yeah, he flew. My dad still has somewhere. He was pretty. Air Force won landed in. George H. H. Arizona.
Starting point is 01:17:37 here you go boy you guys are messing with me so hard no no i'm not messing with me that's a real thing that happened i've been waiting to meet you mark i thought as a kid that it meant like it meant like the president sent me an award tale of your authentic military and knew that i was four score but he didn't actually do that he didn't actually come but i actually got an award that was signed bam let's check that signature i was a pretty good athlete and if you look at if you look at if you look at artists that have fallen off stage, I probably did it the most gracefully of anybody. Oh, you've fallen off stage recently. Is that what you're telling me? Yep, maybe. I don't know. I can't confirm it. We have video. Okay. We roll video of that.
Starting point is 01:18:18 There's probably a TikTok out there, I would imagine. I'm sure there is. I do have some rapid fire questions for you. You all ready? Yeah. Yeah. Sing me the Christmas song that's in your head right now. Meli-licky Makkah is a wise way to say Merry Christmas to you. That is so beautiful. I love that. Do you guys have a version of that out there? No, we should. Oh. Oh, well, my God.
Starting point is 01:18:42 We should do a Hawaiian Christmas album. Okay. Are there more than one? Listen, we're doing a Hawaiian Christmas album. It's coming out in 2023. We've been working on it for four years and that's going to be a single for it. We're going to have to make a few more. Yeah, obviously.
Starting point is 01:18:53 For real? This is actually having. You're going to get on the album on the inlet. It's going to say, thank you, Morgan. You're welcome. From the Bobby Ball Show. We better, we better get in the studio ASAP. I need that.
Starting point is 01:19:05 I need that. I need that album in my life. Eric, book us in the studio. But I'm going to do the album in Bing Crosby voice. I'll take it. Any way you can give it to me, I'll take it. I like it, I love the voice. So what's the next rabbit fire?
Starting point is 01:19:17 Last meal on earth that you can have. You're going to die. Something's going to happen to you. All you can eat buffet. Well, no, you have to do the meal. Sorry, Kekilley. He said, oh. It says, all you can eat, pal.
Starting point is 01:19:36 I mean, I'm going to end it on that. Right. Oh, I was going to say human bones. You know, I've asked that question for two days now and not a single person has answered. Well, you haven't met anybody as Cuth as Jess Carson. It's old Jess Carson. You got to get it pretty early in the morning to stump him. You know, I'm not, but you guys might.
Starting point is 01:19:56 And the last question I have is the coolest phone number you have in your phones right now. Uh, camera dodies. It's, uh, 310 888, 7503. Okay, yep, fans, you heard it. Call him up. He's up late at night, drinking tequila. Yeah, send him to text right now. Yeah. Send him to text right now. Tell me how you feel. Well, Midland, it's always great to see you guys. Thanks for hanging out. Thank you. Don't miss the 56 annual CMAs live on ABC. Tomorrow night. At 87 Central. Starting point is 01:21:53 Hey, everyone. It's Cal Penn. I'm the host of Earsay, the Audible and I-Heart Audio Book. Club. This week on the podcast, I am sitting down with Ray Porter, the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook Project Hail Mary, massive sci-fi adventure about survival and science. And what happens when you wake up alone very far from Earth? I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections. And it's like, okay, yo, yeah, yo, is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, no,
Starting point is 01:22:27 at this point, it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that deeply emotionally affected me, and I left it on the mic. That's great. Because it served the story. People will say like, oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too. Listen to Earsay, the Audible and IHeart Audio Book Club on the IHeart Radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Sink into affordable luxury.

I am Ingrid Andres, and I'm the host of the Bobby Bone Show.
Starting point is 01:23:31 Yes, you are. Okay. No, I'd be the worst host of all time. Would not, you'd be great. Are you good? All right. What's up, y'all? It's Morgan here with Ingrid Andres.
Starting point is 01:23:41 It's so good to see you. How are you? See you, too. I'm good. Oh, there was some hesitation there. Are you sure you're good? I'm tired. Okay.
Starting point is 01:23:49 Okay. Uh-huh. It is TMA week, and there's a lot going on, so I think you can be as tired as you need to be. For sure, yeah. The Keith tour ended on Saturday. So I basically just got here. And you have another number one this week.
Starting point is 01:24:03 Yay! I'm freaking out for you. How does it feel? I have a number one with wishful drinking him with Sam Hunt. It's honestly, it's so cool. Like, I just, I love how far the song has come and getting to see people sing it while I was on the road. It went from like no one knowing it to like everyone knowing it. So I've never seen that happen before.
Starting point is 01:24:23 And it was just really, really awesome. Getting to experience that in real time is probably a fun. experience just as an artist to just watch it grow yes at the end of you just you said the tour with keith urban just ended on that last night we're like no i don't want it to end or we're like okay i'm ready for it to be over uh i it's always a bit of both because tour is definitely a grind but i've gotten so used to it now to where i'm just like well this is the rest of my life so and then now it's just done and i feel like i'm just going to sink into post-tour depression after this uh yeah well what was like the funnest thing that happened while you were on tour. I mean, I'm a big adventurer, so my band
Starting point is 01:25:03 and I just, like, loved exploring all the cities we went to. And I mean, we went everywhere. Do you have a new favorite city now? Um, I actually, well, it's not my favorite, but I surprisingly was, like, really into Jacksonville. Okay, in Florida. Yeah. And why Jacksonville? I have no idea. I think, yeah, the beach was really great. Like, the water was cold. I guess I found out I'm a cold water person. Uh, yeah. Okay, and you know, it's also fun to talk to you too because we're similar ages and we're probably going through similar things and I want to know what's your best piece of dating advice? Dating advice from Ingrid. Don't ever take my dating advice. No, this is why I'm asking because we got to share the tips. Okay, yeah. Well, um, well, I am really bad at dating people.
Starting point is 01:25:50 So I would say my best dating advice would be don't lower your standards. Hey, that's a great. See, you're not that bad. Right. Just because they're hot doesn't mean they're cool, you know. Yeah, that is true. That is absolutely true. Why do you feel like you're bad at dating?
Starting point is 01:26:07 I don't know. I'm just like, I'm just very spicy and independent. And I feel like most guys are like, oh, let me help you. And I'm like, go away. Hey, I like it. I like spicy and going and doing things. You don't need help. No. I mean, I do. I need lots of help, actually, but...
Starting point is 01:26:24 I don't believe that, and I'm not going to manifest that for you either. I really can't cook or do anything. Hey, you can sing. You can write songs. You go on tour and you're spicy. Yeah. What? Those are great qualities. I agree. See, we just need a hype team right here. Yeah, exactly. Yes. Are you on the dating circuit right now? And it's terrible. You're talking about that. And dating in the world is just really hard right now. It is. It's trash. Yeah. I wouldn't. Especially now, everyone's getting a little desperate during cuffing season. So I would just wait a little bit.
Starting point is 01:26:56 Yeah, you know, and I don't really like cuffing season. It feels very uncomfortable for me because I'm like, I don't need you for two months. Like if you can still be with me for like a year, then we're cool. Yeah, yeah. But like two months ain't going to do anything for me. No, it's too short. Yeah, exactly. I'm glad we agree. Okay, cool. It was good chat. I do have some rapid fire questions to ask you to. Yes. Sing to me the Christmas song that's in your head right now. Jingle bells.
Starting point is 01:27:20 Jingle bells That was so innocent I loved it Okay Last meal on earth That you could have What would it be? Ooh
Starting point is 01:27:35 Last meal on earth I'm a simple gal I'd probably do pizza Yeah cheese pepperoni Do you have a preference? I'm a pepperoni with mushroom girl Okay pepperoni with mushroom I like it I believe Eddie on our show is similar
Starting point is 01:27:50 Okay, love it. I would actually make it stuffed crust because why not? If I'm dying, I just go out with a bay. Who is the coolest phone number you have on your phone right now? Ooh, I haven't gone through my phone numbers in forever. Coolest phone number. Maybe you got their phone number. You're like, holy crap, I can't believe I get to have this number. I feel like if it's somebody cool, I probably have never texted them because I'm always so scared to text famous people. Like, I'm bothering them. And that's fair. I think most people would feel that way.
Starting point is 01:28:21 But also, like, if I had your phone number, I would be scared to text you. But, like, she's famous. I don't want to text her. I feel like I'm pretty approachable. You are approachable, though. But you're still famous. You just had another number one.
Starting point is 01:28:32 Okay, yeah, you're right. I am famous. Yeah, see? This is a hype-up interview. I don't know what you're talking about. I'm trying to think, I guess maybe it's just it's Keith's number. I feel like I have a lot of random ones. He's the only one I can think of right now.
Starting point is 01:28:44 But I definitely have probably added numbers from famous. as people while I was under the influence of tequila. You know, I like that story even better, but I appreciate that it's Keith, and I think that's cold. Do you and Keith ever just text each other? We do, yes. Nice. You guys are such good friends that you'll just send random text messages back and forth. Keith and Ingrid. Yes, dynamic duo.
Starting point is 01:29:07 I love it. Well, Ingrid, it's so good to see you. Thanks for hanging out with me. And congratulations on another number one song. Thank you. I appreciate that. The CMAs are live. Tomorrow. At 8.7 Central on ABC. Lunchbox here with Captain Dustin Lynch. Hey, hey. Are you called a captain?
Starting point is 01:29:24 I never thought about that. Like, I don't know what you call. Like, you know what I mean? I guess I am. First officer? Yeah, because when they come on, you're captain speaking, you know what I mean? We're making our final descent.
Starting point is 01:29:34 I'm a captain of my plane. That's so crazy. Now, do you fly to every gig? Do you fly yourself now? Not yet. And it won't be every gig, but some gigs. I love the adventure of that, you know? Every gig, every gig would be a lot.
Starting point is 01:29:49 there's pressure that goes into flying an airplane. Right. Well, I feel like it should be a relaxation thing, but I would be so stressed out, and then you're stressed out flying to your, not driving, flying to your gigs, and it's like, then you've got to go to your gigs and you've got to perform,
Starting point is 01:30:03 so you're stressed out about that. Do you get stressed out about a performance? I don't. No, I think what would stress me out is how unknown the weather is. Okay. Right? And in a smaller plane,
Starting point is 01:30:11 you want to fly early, because thermals, the air that goes up is what bounces you pretty good. So the earlier you fly, the better that's not. so great for playing a show and staying up all night. Oh, did not know that? Yeah. I had no idea that the hotter it gets in the day, the more you bounce up and down. Yeah, so you want to fly in a smaller plane. Is that because the cumulus clouds? So you're getting somewhere. I don't know. I just
Starting point is 01:30:33 trying to remember something from school back in the day. That's definitely turbulent air. There are cumulus clouds, right? Is that one of the clouds? That is. And that means it's unstable air. Usually good visibility, unstable air. Becoming a pilot, I didn't realize you have to be a weather nerd, like an Uber weather nerd. It's crazy how much weather you have to learn to be a... So now do you watch the weather a lot more? Like, do you just turn into the... Daily.
Starting point is 01:30:55 Seriously. It's like Instagram is an option and my weather, my flying four-flight app and weather is an option. I just nerd out on weather now. What else do you nerd out on? What is Dustin Lynch? Like, Dustin Lynch the nerd.
Starting point is 01:31:08 Like, what is it that makes Dustin Lynch a nerd? Anything, I'd kind of go down the YouTube rabbit hole. So I'll start... I love the outdoors. So anything, hunting, farming, you know, DIY stuff. I would say what makes me a nerd
Starting point is 01:31:23 is, since you didn't ask, is 16 and pregnant on MTV. It's a show where they show 16-year-old girls that got pregnant, and then you follow their journey through their pregnancy. Yeah. And they give birth, and then some of them move on to teen mom on MTV.
Starting point is 01:31:38 I know it's like they graduate. Yeah, they graduate, and then they follow their lives. And then they go to The Bachelor. Well, and then Bachelor in Paradise is an offshoot of that. You watch that? Dude? Bachelor in Paradise is great, man. Actually, I will confess, because I don't watch a lot of TV. I like nerd out on YouTube, but I turn on Bachelor in Paradise because I'm like, who, how is this franchise still going?
Starting point is 01:31:59 It's incredible. It's awesome. I get it. But then I watched it. I made it like maybe one commercial. Oh, Bachelor in Paradise, though, is the best one of the franchise. Because they kind of make fun of themselves. They act like it's really ridiculous and funny. And then people actually get married off of that, which is just crazy to me. But it's awesome. It is, I mean, it would be so fun as a single person to go on Bachelor in Paradise. You get paid to go on vacation, drink on the beach all day, and make out with people. We would thought that would be terrible. I feel like we would thrive at that.
Starting point is 01:32:29 I mean, I would thrive, but I'm married, so I would have to get divorced and leave my three kids and my wife, so I don't know if I could do it. But if you would go with me, I may consider it. I'm out. I'm out. No Bachelor in Paradise. Would you ever do a reality TV show? Yeah, if it was the right one. I mean, Blake Shelton has some big boots to fill, but the voice would be cool.
Starting point is 01:32:48 Is that you saying that you are in talks with the voice because Blake Shelton is leaving? That's not at all what I said. Is that what I am hearing? Guys, hold on on. Do I need to do a breaking news clip right here? It's not at all what I said. Uh-uh. I said Blake Shelton would have some big boots to fill.
Starting point is 01:33:05 I think that is a breaking news clip. I'm going to save this clip. And so in six months, when it has announced Dustin Lynch is on the voice, we found out right here. I don't know if you're dropping hints or not. I can't tell because you're not blinking. And so I can't tell if you're being serious. So if I have to blink, what's that mean?
Starting point is 01:33:22 I don't know. Because you know how you usually wink when you're like, I'm telling you the truth, but I can't tell you the truth. There's been none of that. Oh, my gosh. I'm throwing for a loop right now, Dustin Lynch. This is cool. I love that you're starting this rumor.
Starting point is 01:33:36 It's good. Yeah. This is good for me. Are there any other rumors that you hear about you? Do you ever Google rumors about Dustin Lynch? I don't. No, that's, and I never have. There's just, most, I would assume most everything out there is crazy and made up.
Starting point is 01:33:52 So I haven't Googled. Okay. I mean, I wonder. I think I'm going to keep it that way. You're giving me a complex now. I'm going to go home and Google. No, no, no. I just wondered like if your family ever comes to you.
Starting point is 01:33:59 Oh my gosh, I read this about you on the internet, you know? Because like my mom. I didn't think about that. I bet my mom. I bet she has to because my mom, you know, being a slurty, people put stuff on the internet. And she'll look on Facebook and be like, oh my God, they said this about you. Did you really do that? And I'm like, no, mom.
Starting point is 01:34:13 You know, one thing that that popped back up is, was from years ago. This just happened a couple weeks ago. I started getting text of me getting hit in the face with a beer can. Yeah. How did that come back? I don't know. I guess it res. Whatever algorithm on TikTok or whatever made it resurfaced and everybody thought it was,
Starting point is 01:34:29 even close friends were like, where is this guy? I'm going to go, you know. And I'm like, that was 2013 or 400, I don't know what it was. And then it comes back around. It came back around. Everybody thought two weeks ago it was last. night, you know? I mean, everybody's trying to defend you. That should make you feel good, though, that you have friends that are ready to go whoops some ass. They were down in Florida. Okay, so backstory of that. That happened in Niceville, Florida, awesome, at the Mollett Festival.
Starting point is 01:34:55 About right. You can't ride it any better than that. That's about right. You know what I mean? And I got popped right here with an unopened Coorslight. At any point, did you think you were going to die? No, because I've been, you know, everybody's been punched before, right? It felt like a punch and it was just like, all right, let's go. It kind of jacked me up. I didn't realize at the time until it's started just puddling blood that I'd, you know, you don't know what it is. Right, you don't know what it is. You're not like a beer can right here. Right. And so, I mean, if you didn't think you were going to die then, eventually you will have a time when you're going to die, right?
Starting point is 01:35:23 We all are. That seems to be the case. Yes. So my question for you is, before you die, what would be your last meal? Wow. What would you want? Um, I would want something probably a Wagyu steak from my buddy's place called cow steaks, a little plug for him. Very good job.
Starting point is 01:35:42 Look it up, guys. It's my favorite steak I've ever had my life, and I've ate steak all over the place. I would have that probably cooked over an open fire at the farm and a cold beer. Give me those two things, maybe some ice cream to finish it off. Send me on my way. And then you would call everybody in your phone and say your goodbyes. Hey, it's Dustin. I'm checking out, man.
Starting point is 01:36:00 It was my last meal. Yeah, it was my last meal. And as you're scrolling through that cell phone, who's the coolest celebrity that we would see in your cell phone? I've got everybody nicknamed. Captain America. that is Chris Evans Chris Hemsworth Chris
Starting point is 01:36:17 Chris Evans I don't know Captain America Dang how do you know him He's great to put words in our mouth I just made up a name I don't know What was your question
Starting point is 01:36:30 The most famous celebrity The coolest Like yeah I mean it doesn't have to be Country artists Just anybody in life My gosh It's a long list
Starting point is 01:36:37 Of all over the place Let me say Let me say this newest That's fine Dansby Swanson Braves player That's cool

Starting point is 01:37:05 Hey happy holidays And before we go What's the first Christmas song That pops in your head it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go I don't know I'll lose it after that and now you have to go thank you guys so much
Starting point is 01:37:20 have a good one don't miss the 56 annual CMAs live on ABC tomorrow night at 87 Central Hi y'all I'm here with Morgan and this is Patty you are a massively known songwriter in town for so many but it's so good to see you how are you? Thank you I'm good I'm like really excited, overwhelmed in the best way.
Starting point is 01:37:41 Yeah. Is this your first CMA Awards like remotes? Is this the first time happening? Yeah, this definitely. I've been part of the CMAs as a songwriter, but as an artist and an artist performing and doing all this, this is my first time. So. Yeah. What's that transition been for you to go from focused on the songwriting to now really focusing on your artist's career?
Starting point is 01:38:03 It's been really awesome. I feel like the most me, me. and, you know, I thankfully haven't had too much time to, like, freak out about it because it all happened really fast. So, yeah, I'm just playing the shows, putting out my own album, Florida that we put out last month, and really telling, like, my truths and, you know, singing about the stuff that I really went through. And that's been really, really awesome. It's been really important for me as a person. Yeah, absolutely. It's probably cool to see the fans connect with your music and that.
Starting point is 01:38:38 way as well. It is. To see them connect to you rather than another artist. Yeah, it's awesome. And, you know, as a songwriter, it's about the artist. All we want to do is give an artist the best possible song, you know. So it's definitely hits different when you're the one singing it, for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:56 And you also have a pretty close connection with Ashley McBride. You are on her latest album. You're performing with her at the CMA Awards. Where did that friendship start? It started in a bar called The Rush. Rusty Nail in Hermitage, like 10 years ago. And Ashley and I have been really, really dear friends for a long time. And we have been kind of in the beginning of both of our careers.
Starting point is 01:39:21 We've done it all together. You know, Ashley's first single was a song that we wrote together. And it's been awesome. I mean, she's on some of the songs on my record. Like, it's crazy. We've just been doing this together. And every time we say something's going to happen, we're like, it's going to happen. Like the CMA performance, we said that before, and we're like, it's really happening.
Starting point is 01:39:41 We're really doing it. Y'all are just out here manifesting all kinds of things. I know. It's crazy. I love that. I also have some rapid fire fun questions for you. Okay. Sing to me the Christmas song that's in your head right now.
Starting point is 01:39:55 Silver bills? Okay. Is that a Christmas song? I think so. Yeah. I mean, you know, it's kind of whatever you interpret it. I almost said something else. Silver balls, but I didn't mean that.
