Hey, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast, a slight change of plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans. I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change. We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes.
Starting point is 00:02:38 You can have opinions. You can have like a strong stance. And then there's your body having its own program. Listen to a slight change of plans on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Come on, Mom, Bobby. Welcome to Friday. Show, morning studio. Morning.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I want to start with a voicemail we got. Go ahead. So I was just on Instagram and I saw Lunchbox's post of the Crocs and how he said one for me, another one for me. Just curious, were they three? And did he take more than one pair? So I've heard about this from other sources. So Lunchbox, you can go first? Yeah, at the CMA, like where we do interviews for the artist leading up to the CMA Awards, there was a crock booth.
Starting point is 00:03:34 and they had a wall of crocs and they had iPads there and you got to order crocs. And so I went and ordered crocs for me. I ordered crocs for my wife. I ordered crocs for my three kids. And then I got me a fuzzy pair of crocs like the warm ones for the winter. So they weren't there. You just ordered like six pair. Yeah, and I got the email and it says, let me see what it says.
Starting point is 00:03:59 It says that my order has been confirmed and I'm not sure when they will arrive though. okay Morgan were you with him? Yeah, oh yeah, I saw all this happen. Did he, he's been known to take advantage of situations. Maybe this wasn't one of those. No, you definitely were just supposed to take like one pair. The artists were allowed to do some for their camp,
Starting point is 00:04:22 but the rest of it, like we didn't even tell if it was actually for the radio people at all. Also, it wasn't even offered to you. No. I was order number, I was order number 155 and I'm confirmed. My order from Crox, CMA, media remote portal is confirmed. Your package will ship and we will send you a notification email. Boom. So it really, they didn't go and say, would you guys like a pair of Crocs?
Starting point is 00:04:45 No, at no point in time, didn't anybody from CMA come over and be like, hey, like everybody's welcome to go. Get one of these, you know, here's how many you can have, whatever. Never did that happen. But they were having artists there and doing some promotion with the artists. And Lunchrock goes over there and pretends he's an artist. He even took a Polaroid over there and like signed it. like he was an artist in doing this with the Crocs.
Starting point is 00:05:06 It's kind of funny. Yeah. I would do that. The picture's thing kind of funny. Yep. I would be so nervous, though, about, like, taking stuff. Because I'm just not a good... I'm just not good at being dishonest.
Starting point is 00:05:18 I mean, there was nothing dishonest. They were free. I didn't do anything dishonest. The lady gave me the iPad. I sat there and said, I want that one. That one. I guess I would have felt I was being dishonest because it was for the artist that were there, not for all of the people that were working, interviewing the artist.
Starting point is 00:05:33 And they had like some USA crocs and I was like, ooh. That was pretty cool. Exactly. And I said, can I get those and I want to get a pair from each one of my boys? Like red, white and blue? Okay, so I guess that's the part too that feels weird. He got all his family. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Yeah, he was bragging about Christmas gifts for the kids. But the only problem is they didn't have the USA ones in kids sizes. So I couldn't get the kids ones and they didn't have any online. They were all sold out and those were too big. So I didn't get the USA ones. But is like the artist really going to go with an iPad and I'm like, oh, I'm going to my crocs. Oh, I don't see Luke Brian doing that. They all probably did that or their management did it.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Oh. So what I would say, though, is, and this is a true question. Please answer me truthfully, lunchbox. Do you feel like you got one over on them? No. Okay. They could have taken that iPad away from me at any time they wanted. Okay, but you saying that is you going, you knew you were up to something.
Starting point is 00:06:18 I guess in your heart, do you feel like you were sneaking free crocks? No. I think, yeah, it's pretty clear. Do you feel like they were offered to you? Yes. Okay. Because they could have said it at any time. But they don't know who everybody is.
Starting point is 00:06:32 You don't even know who every new artist is that's there. Correct. But they could have said, hey, oh, you know, what, what song do you sing or something like that? They could have had, like, proof of entry. Another question. Whenever you took, like, all the stuff from St. Jude that you shouldn't have taken. The backpacks. Yeah, those weren't for you.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Did you feel like you were getting one over on the Children's Cancer Hospital? No. They were free backpacks. But for one per per, what about the gift cards for the Christmas when they were given out one per Christmas? Oh, that was good. That was at a restaurant down the road. We haven't done that in a while. We haven't gone back to that restaurant.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Did you feel like you were getting one over on the restaurant? Well, I did go on one side of the room Because it was only like a $10 gift card So I can't really buy anything with $10 So then I went to the other side of the room Got your mad at them because they weren't big enough And so I got $30 worth of gift cards That way I could get a full meal
Starting point is 00:07:14 Did you feel like you were getting one over on them? I just called strategic year Yes, a little bit, okay That one may be a little bit Is it embarrassing for you Morgan When he does stuff like that? Yeah, no for sure Because you just don't know who's watching
Starting point is 00:07:26 And who's seeing all this happen Whether it's artists, people in the industry Like CMA who's hosting us So you just feel uncomfortable And he's and he's bragging about it too It's not that he does it in its discreet I feel like he's didn't Okay, if he's bragging, why is he bragging?
Starting point is 00:07:41 Because he knows he just got one over on it If he's, because if he were just normal And he was getting that as like a gift bag You wouldn't be bragging about it. Yeah, no, he came over so excited. How long have I been wearing crocs? No, that's not the quite A long time.
Starting point is 00:07:54 So you know what? I think I deserved it. So now we're nice to the truth. They were nice enough to give me some free pair of crocs. So crocs, thank you. shout out Boulder, Colorado. Shout out Boulder. The whole city?
Starting point is 00:08:04 That's where they're at. Oh, there you can. Well, let's get the show started. Thank you everybody for being here. Did you get us any? You're just thinking about. Oh, yeah. I don't know your sizes.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Okay. You get a text. Easy text. Oh, yeah, man. The reception there wasn't that good. Oh, dang. That sucks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Bobby Bones, my girlfriend and I have been together for almost a year. She still insists on splitting everything down to the penny, fiercely independent and she's a bit quirky which i love about her but it feels a bit extreme especially when it's something like a coffee she asked her to loosen up a bit or just let it go and respect her boundaries signed dating a penny pincher i guess i wonder if she wanting to display everything because you spend more money than her because that would be a thing right that would be the penny pincher part of it right where if you're doing stuff but his tastes are a bit more expensive but she's like i don't want to pay for that she's a big time penny pitcher she'd let him pay
Starting point is 00:09:13 She can pinch all of her pennies. That's extra penny pinching. Right. I think that she just needs to tap into her feminine energy. I think that if this is her thing, let her do it. Yeah. Or you can divide it in different ways so it's not so awkward on occasion at the occasion. So if you're getting a coffee, like, no, we need to split this.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Okay, I'll get the coffee. This is $17. The next $17 thing, we'll keep track of it. I'll get. Again, this is not what normal people do, but this is the kind of stuff that I do in my head. Like I know what it's like to kind of be OCD-ish about stuff because this doesn't feel like full OCD, but it feels OCD-ish. I would let her do it with the idea of you're trying to understand why she's doing it because
Starting point is 00:09:53 I think instead of diagnosing the symptom, it's trying to figure out what the actual, and it's not a disease, but I'm saying symptom, what the actual disease is. So maybe the root behind why she's wanting to be that way all the time. Yeah, instead of the symptom, find the real reason and then work. work with her on that. Also, maybe she doesn't think you're the future. Oh. You know? And she's like, we're not together forever.
Starting point is 00:10:20 So I'm going to make sure to cover my crap. Oh, dang. Yeah. I'll pay for me. It's okay for his needs to be met as well, though. And if he has a desire to pay for her sometimes, like, oh, he can express that. Like, hey, I would really love to take you out. And I would like to pay for this.
Starting point is 00:10:35 Sounds like he has. He's emailing us. But I agree. But I think the way to meet that is just kind of keep track of what you. what you're spending individually and fully spend and then let the other person fully spend after that instead having to split everything because it's just awkward in the moment to be like all right you have a bagel Starbucks coffee that's a lot you have the crispy treat that that is it's a lot and it's awkward for everybody but what I would suggest one short term that long term what happened back
Starting point is 00:11:06 when she was a kid that made her feel like she needed to do this like where is it and then work with work with that situation. But I don't think it's anything wrong with her. I think we all have our quirks and maybe you're ultra-sensitive to it, but that's what I would suggest. Good luck. That's going to be a tough one. But good luck with that or let her pay for everything. But again, it may not be, it may not be a control thing. Yeah. But also it may be a full control thing, but he's just calling her a penny-pincher. Yeah, I think that's what he's doing. Good luck, buddy. Let us know how it goes. You won't, though. All right, bye. Here's the voicemail we got last night. Hey, I'm just in here jamming out to cane brown and marshmallow.
Starting point is 00:11:42 And it just drives me nuts as a guy who spent years and years and years selling furniture. Just because it's alliterative doesn't mean it's correct. The whole deal about the king size bed, right? Talking about the truck bed that's wide like a California king. California King is not the extra wide king bed. That's the Eastern King. California King is longer and made for people that are tall, not necessarily that much wider. So even though it's a jam, it's a really cool song,
Starting point is 00:12:08 Every time I hear it, it drives me nuts to hear him say, California King. Thanks, guys. Love the show. I love that guy. Yeah, me too. Wow. I love the guy. He has to do something in beds, too. He sells his own furniture.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Yeah, but, like, specials. He must spend a lot of time with beds. Mattresses. Yes, like, he must spend a lot of time with beds for that to trigger that. Could you turn the California King horizontal and then it could be wide? It seems like too much work. I don't know. I love it.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Thanks for the call. You are insane. That is crazy. I never knew that. The Vibble Show Here's Amy's pile of stories I have five things you should keep to yourself And never complain about
Starting point is 00:12:44 Okay And at number one, how much you hate your job I think there's a group of people You can share that with But yes, not at your job out loud That'd be terrible So other people can hear, yes Or just like complaining about it too much
Starting point is 00:12:57 I mean you can really drag down the vibe Your partner's flaws And at number two Because you should address that directly With your partner Well the problem there is You have your own flaws, buddy and so it's not like you don't have your own
Starting point is 00:13:09 and they're probably not complaining as much and also get over it or move on that's what I say number three how much you're struggling financially this can make people feel awkward yeah there's a very select group people you can do that with you can't really do that when you go to P.F. Chang's you know I mean for the bunch of people you just hang out with twice a week oh go ahead
Starting point is 00:13:27 how you never have enough time because nobody wants to hear everybody's busy exactly and then and number five how tired you are exactly we're all tired we're all tired and No one wants to hear how much you work. No one wants to hear how your fans football team's doing. Nobody wants to hear the dream you had last night. I have my own list of these things nobody wants to hear.
Starting point is 00:13:45 All right what else? If you want healthier coffee, the new trend right now is using maple syrup instead of sugar or anything else. I don't know if... Because maple syrup has natural sugar to maple syrup. Not maple. No, it's not... Maple is a natural. It's naturally sweet.
Starting point is 00:14:01 They don't add sugar to maple syrup though. No. No. The way it comes. I get what actual maple syrup is, but I'm not. saying when it's packaged, you're telling me that no maple syrup, they add sugar to make it extra good. If you're getting like true maple syrup, it is sweet, just like honey's already sweet. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:15 But here's my question. I don't know what true maple syrup is. If I go to the grocery store and get maple syrup, do they add sugar to that? No, if you look on the back and the only ingredient. No, no. We're telling you. I'm telling you, if you look at the only ingredient and it's maple syrup, that's all that's in there. Boom.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I believe. I believe there's probably good ones. Now, that's not anti-mine. That's like Ms. That's like Ms. Butter's worth or something. Yeah, yeah. That's what I'm asking about. Okay, that's added.
Starting point is 00:14:36 This is like the maple syrup in a jar. And I don't know if maple tree farmers put this study out or what, but I've been seeing it everywhere. And they say, first of all, it's yummy. But your blood sugar doesn't spike as much. And it can help with digestion. And there's antioxidants as well. No, it's not cheap.
Starting point is 00:14:55 I will say that. Well, yeah, nothing natural is. It's the opposite. It's like anything organic costs way more. And it's like, dude, it came from the earth. Give us a discount on this. All right, what else? There's this thing that's going viral about this company that will let you bent about your bosses anonymously,
Starting point is 00:15:14 and then they will, like, send a note to the boss, like, scolding them for what all they're doing wrong. I would never open. I think it was spam or scam or one of the two. Yeah, it's a way for you to anonymously voice workplace grievances through professional scolders. Can't you just, like, do a burner account? You just email the boss yourself to a burner? Hey. I guess you could.
Starting point is 00:15:36 You suck. I feel like somehow that'll get tracked. Yeah. No, not if you mean, really, it's almost impossible to track those unless you put your name in like the subject head by accident. I would get way too nervous that something would get leaked. I mean, first of all, I wouldn't do this. But just like, what's the healthiest way if you have a grievance with your boss? Talk to the boss?
Starting point is 00:15:54 A, have a conversation with the boss. But like. And here's the thing about bosses in general and why bosses always feel like their employees are, up to something or wanting something. Rarely is there an employee that ever has a conversation with the boss and goes, hey, you're doing a good job. An employee usually goes to a boss something's wrong. So anytime an employee wants to talk to a boss, you're like, great, now what's wrong? It's like just generally in life, even though they're like a TV show. You don't get a message on it. This is my favorite show. It's like, oh, this show sucks. It's just general.
Starting point is 00:16:24 So a lot of bosses, their relationship with their employees is not a healthy feeling one because the only time the employees really come to the boss unless they're friends is when something things wrong. Gosh, it's so right. Like, I've never gone to a boss and been like, hey, boss, you did really good this week. I just like to say you did a great job. Yeah, I know people who don't tell you that. But yeah, it's this grievance. Like, I can kick rocks. Yeah, I mean, yes. Boss's rules, I say. This is not recommended, but I just thought it opens the conversation of like, you know, it's the end of the year. End of the year. You're doing some reflecting. Telling your boss. Merry Christmas. No, but as you enter the new year, like, how do you want it
Starting point is 00:16:57 to be? And maybe you could have some hard conversations. No, it's the end of the year. Merry Merry Christmas. It's done in January. Amy's pile of stories. It's time for the good news. With Bobby. Tell me something good. I'm going to help you save money during the holiday shopping season. So if you're like, I got to go to the store, I got to go buy presents.
Starting point is 00:17:18 They say don't go when it's crowded. I'm going to save you money right here. Researchers found that people tend to spend more in stores and there are a lot of people when it's very busy because they have to make decisions quicker. Mondays and Tuesdays the best days to go. The absolute worst time, Saturday and Sunday after lunch. So if you want to save my, I'm saving you in right now. Everybody say thank you.
Starting point is 00:17:38 Oh, wow. Do not go when it's busy. You see people, they're moving, the wrestling, bustling. It's competition. Yes, you will spend more money. Also, don't go to the grocery or $100. But we know that one. We know that one.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Yeah, yeah, that's the moment's world. All right, there you go. That's what's all about. That was tell me something good. I feel like it was a little bit unbelievable until I really start making money. It's Financial Literacy Month, and the podcast Eating While Broke is bringing real conversations about money, growth and building your future.
Starting point is 00:18:08 This month, hear from top streamer, Zoe Spencer, and venture capitalist Lakeisha Landrum-Pierre, as they share their journeys from starting out to leveling up. If I'm outside with my parents and they're seeing all these people come up to me for pictures, it's like, what?
Starting point is 00:18:22 Today now, obviously, it's like 100%. They believe everything, but at first it was just like, you got to go get a real job. There's an economic component to community striving. If there's not enough money and entrepreneurship happening
Starting point is 00:18:36 in communities, they fail. And what I mean by fail is they don't have money to pay for food. They cannot feed their kids. They do not have homes. Communities don't work unless there's money flowing through them. Listen to Eating While Broke from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. You can have opinions. You can have like a strong stance.
Starting point is 00:19:00 And then there's your body having its own program. I'm Dr. Maya Shunker. a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast, a slight change of plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans. We share stories and scientific insights to help us all better navigate these periods of turbulence and transformation. There is one finding that is consistent, and that is that our resilience rests on our relationships. I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change. We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes. Listen to a slight change of plans on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

I have some flirtyish moments with Morgan and different artists. Do you guys want to hear these? Yeah. So CMAs. They're flirting with her. She's flirting. You just listen. I don't want to lead you. I don't lead the witness. Okay. Does Morgan, you're single?
Starting point is 00:23:03 Yeah, I'm single. Nothing wrong with being single? Living it up. During the CMAs, and this is the last time, after today, we'll do very little CMA talk, but I wanted to play this. Tucker Wetmore came in, he was a foreign football player. Now he's got a song, about to be number one, big deal. And so they were talking about what he wanted to accomplish in life.
Starting point is 00:23:24 And his answer led all the guys to make it awkward because of Morgan and single. and just listen to this and give me your thoughts. Here you go. What is something that you hope to accomplish before you die, not music related? A family. Want to be a dad? I do. Not anytime soon.
Starting point is 00:23:40 That's probably like one of my main goals. Oh, that's really awesome. But not right now. No, no, God, no. Absolutely not. I mean, no position to be a father. Any particular reason you say that? Just still learning to take care of yourself?
Starting point is 00:23:54 I don't even have a girlfriend. Yeah. Okay, got it. No. I thought you did. Sorry. Nope. Not bad.
Starting point is 00:24:00 I'm sorry. Oh my God. Stop it right now. We're done. We're done. Maybe. They guys are making lots of jokes. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Okay. Tucker, it's really great to see you. Thanks, sir. I hate you guys. Okay. Wow, wow, wow. That wasn't him flirting with Morgan. That was Morgan flirting with him.
Starting point is 00:24:19 I think it was just worried getting a little bit like giddy around him. No, outward flirting, but Morgan, like it stopped in her track. Like, he's single. Can I tell you why? Yeah. I had just seen that he had a girlfriend. online so I felt really bad that I brought it up I guess they had just broken up I don't know I can see a little bit of that also I felt like she was a little that but if you're if you're thinking they're with
Starting point is 00:24:41 someone and then you're realizing they broke up yeah and then you realize it yeah okay okay okay here's another one was Morgan flirting with Riley green here's here's a clip you know Riley listen everybody thinks you're so attractive you're like the that we did a whole thing on the show that you're the hottest man in country music really but I feel like what just made you even more attractive to me is that you love Christmas as much as I do. And I like the but nobody has a chance because I'm hung up on this elf girl. Exactly. We got to find the elf.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I need to find my elf. Yeah. This is awkward. This is awkward. It's not awkward. It's not even doing anything. Okay. It's the hot. It goes high when she gets like if they say something that indicates they're looking. She goes high.
Starting point is 00:25:23 She even said what makes me attracted to you. Yeah, what makes you more attractive to me? And did we vote? The sexiest of all. We didn't vote. It was on the list. That's not our voting. It was the list that we read.
Starting point is 00:25:34 And Morgan said his name. Yeah, but she just picked his. Oh, we were guessing what was on the list. And he was the more one would say his name. Yeah, more than he's good looking. Yeah, but she, like, caught it. She got the bug in that one. Because she's like, you know what makes you even hotter to me.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Right, right. I was excited to talk about Christmas. So Morgan floored with him, right? Yeah, I think Morgan took a little, very small put a little effort in there to let him know she knew that he knew
Starting point is 00:26:03 these are like outwardly though I feel like this might just be my personality no we know you it's getting personality hey Tucker this wasn't outwardly oh dude cat got my tongue here is the lead singer of Parma Lee it's Matt
Starting point is 00:26:15 and they're talking about Jeep ducking putting those ducks on someone's Jeep do you have ducks on your jeeps I don't have a duck on my Jeep he's a guy have you never been duck no guys have them it's not just a girl thing guys have them too I've never been ducked.
Starting point is 00:26:28 You should... You should duck me. I'm not serious. This is what's going to happen. Okay. It's awkward. Yeah, because we get the duck thing, but also... Is that why it's called ducking?
Starting point is 00:26:41 No, I don't know. But when she goes, I need to duck you. It's like a good-looking dude. Morgan. Guys, it was genuinely that. We don't hate you for it. I'm not trying to, though. Guys is the thing.
Starting point is 00:26:55 I'm genuinely not. You're not? And then she would... Let me tell you, she was so disappointed because Warren Ziders never came by our booth. And she kept going, man, man, I'm going to talk about him not being on our sexiest man list. I need to tell him about he's not on our sexiest man list. I wanted to follow up because he commented on the video. He saw it.
Starting point is 00:27:10 And he commented. And I was like, that would be a cool follow-up. Well. Maybe it's everybody else making it. I was just having fun. Warren was her first guess. Yes, that's what I was. Yeah, in the video, like you came to me.
Starting point is 00:27:23 You're like, Amy, sexed me and I was like, George Strait. And you're like, oh, Amy. Let me go to someone that knows those. talking about Morgan. No, I didn't say that. I said he was too old to be on the list. Right. I clearly, I, you exaggerated that and that makes me feel small. Yeah, Amy, you're taking away the attention from Morgan because she's the one. You take away the attention from her. Oh, that wasn't my intent. No, let's go back to Morgan. And sorry, Bobby, that was my own insecurity of picking George straight and I took it out on you. Thank you. I'm sorry. Morgan, who would you, who would you rather duck?
Starting point is 00:27:49 Matt from Parmally or Riley Green. Honest question. You get one night of ducking. Guys, thank you. jeeps, right? Right. You're going to duck the crap by the long. Stop.
Starting point is 00:28:02 It's a duck. The CMAs are now streaming on Hulu. Yes, that's Morgan being flirty. All right. Thank you. Fun fact Friday, before penicillin, the best available cure for syphilis was intentionally giving someone malaria. Oh.
Starting point is 00:28:19 It would cause such a high fever that it would kill the bacteria that caused syphilis. Of course, it could also kill the person, too. Wait, whatever. But that is how if someone got syphilis, they treated it. it by going and getting them I don't know how they got the malaria you know did they get a I don't know but yeah that's crazy
Starting point is 00:28:38 huh that's my fun fact that's fun that's fun that's fun discovering penicillin that's wild because it was just mold right yes and all the sudden that's like killing back that's crazy Amy what do you have over there just the smell of chocolate can help
Starting point is 00:28:53 relax you and reduce stress you don't even have to eat it just smell it then I become stressed how quickly can I eat it because I want it It's a different stress. Lunchbox. Once a chicken lived without a head for 18 months back in the 1940s, he survived because his jugular vein and most of his brainstem were still left mostly intact, allowing it just enough function to stay alive. That's so sad.
Starting point is 00:29:18 That's wild if true, but also where's the video? Because it's like the 40s. 1940s, no video. Do we trust that? Get your paper. Do we trust that? But yes, they can't actually for a minute anyway. even now.
Starting point is 00:29:31 How about this one? Indiana, big basketball state, Amy. Oh, yeah. Big basketball state. Has 10 of the 12 largest high school basketball gyms in the country. They don't even have like the biggest cities. Like Indianapolis is the biggest city and it's ranked like the 30th biggest city. But they have 10 of the 12 largest high school basketball gyms in the country.
Starting point is 00:29:48 The other two that aren't are Texas and Illinois. But look at Indiana. Shout out basketball. All right. Eddie. Okay. So there are 152 people in America named LOL. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:30:00 it's lull? It has to be. It's got to be the lull, right? And most of them live in Wyoming, which is weird. Wonder if it's an old family name. Yeah, oh, go over to lull's house. Lowell Johnson. Oh, that's the way, right. Yeah. The original lulls were before there was the ability to text or even know what
Starting point is 00:30:15 laugh out loud meant. They just probably did the lulls, right? Yeah, yeah, go over to lulls. Lawl the third? Yeah. Oh, you know my pops. That's funny. Morgan? So this is for all the friends and Gilmore Girls fans. While Matthew Perry and Lauren Graham were dating, the friends cast would hang out at Luke's Diner, which is a place in Gilmore Girls set.
Starting point is 00:30:34 And then both shows would also swap clothes with each other. So the other person, you mentioned those from Gilmore Girls. Yeah, Lauren Graham, she's one of the main characters in Gilmore Girls. She's the mom. Got it. Well, not the mom, mom, because there's a grandma, a mom, and a daughter. But that's a grandma. That's her mom.
Starting point is 00:30:48 True. But if you're talking about her, then that's her mom. But if you're saying the mom, it's the mom on the show, not the grandma. Correct. Okay. The head football coach at the University of Michigan quit to prospect gold in Alaska. He actually struck it rich. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Nah. 1897. But he was the head football coach, University of Michigan. I was like, I'm out of this. I'm going to go look for gold. And then he hit. They're still looking for gold in Alaska. There's a whole TV show about it.
Starting point is 00:31:13 Really? Yeah. Wait, I'm going to Google when Cotton Candy was invented because I think that was also in 1897. And I just remember reading that a dentist invented it. Isn't that crazy? I think we've talked about that. Yeah, we did.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Maybe that's why I know it because they're just in my head. He was like, I found this out. I'm like, no, this is from our show. Oh my gosh. Guys, sometimes I'm like, why is my brain remembering this and it can't remember? It was called like fairy. Okay, cotton candy, also known as fairy floss, was invented at 1897 by a dentist who was craving something sweet.
Starting point is 00:31:44 So that's the same year? Yeah, well, when Bobby said 1897, my brain thought of cotton candy. That's pretty crazy. Hey, this segment's finally rubbing off on us. We're learning things. Another one. Anderson Cooper has no formal journalism training. He got his degree in political science from Yale and did his summer intern.
Starting point is 00:31:59 internships at CIA, he just started doing like traveling, spending his own money going overseas with the camera. Wow. To like where Middle East conflict was. His mom is like famous. A lot. He's very wealthy. Very, very wealthy.
Starting point is 00:32:09 Yeah, that's how he gave the plane tickets overseas. But like, he still put himself in very dangerous situations in order to be like, look, I'm covering this crap. You remember him on Channel 1? Yeah, of course. It's a link. And as a Cooper back in the day. The original reels have gone with the wind, the Wizard of Oz and many other classic movies. They're stored underground.
Starting point is 00:32:29 an assault mine in Kansas to be protected. Well, now everyone knows. We don't know which one. Yeah, there's a lot of cans. Can't be that, man. A lot of can't. There's a lot of cans. Morgan,
Starting point is 00:32:38 it can's pretty big? Yeah. Exactly. No, the salt mills. A lot of salt mills over there? No. So they're just buried somewhere under. Yeah, it says under a salt mine, not a mill.
Starting point is 00:32:47 Oh, salt mine. Yeah. A lot of salt mines, Morgan, you're taking out? No, they're really? Like, like field parties. You guys had salt mine parties? We had lots of field parties. Not a lot of salt mine parties.
Starting point is 00:32:56 All right, there you go. Fun fact Friday. It's time for the good news. With Amy. Tell me something good. There's his husband, Andrew, and he just won husband of the year with his wife's 40th birthday gift. Our name's Jennifer, and they both volunteer together at Chesapeake Animal Services. They've been doing that for over a year, so they obviously love dogs.
Starting point is 00:33:20 And one of their own dogs died unexpectedly. Jennifer's been really down about that. So for her 40th birthday, he came up with an idea to, pay 40 adoption fees for people like in her honor. And so those fees are covered. So if someone walked in that day and was like, hey, I want to adopt a dog, you'd be like, oh, guess what? Your adoptions paid for because of Andrew here and his gift to his wife. That's cool. That's cool. That is a real gift. No, no, no, no. I think that's a-covering 40 fees. Absolutely. I think it's an amazing way to give back and she loves it. But I hope for him, we also got her something for her.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Because fellas, we know what's up. We still got to get a gift. We do. Even if we do something like that. I can get my wife a gift. I think. I think. think that is an amazing gift to give back in her honor. He probably still should have got a little something. Jennifer's birthday wish is that more people will visit the shelter and adopt. I know. She wants them to all have homes and now he's contributed in her honor for them having. Husband of the year.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Hope he got a little treat though. I hope I got a little treat. I bet. There you go. All right. That's what it's all about. That was tell me something good. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:22 Voice smells from last night. Go ahead. Hey, Bobby. Comment about Eddie saying he's going to donate bone marrow. I actually donated bone marrow back in June. and Eddie is too old. You had to be 40 years old or younger to do it. So sorry, Eddie, you're too old.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Wow. Is that what you found out through your research that you should have already been doing? No, I haven't even researched yet, but that's crazy. I mean, he saved me time. No, this is not the gospel. Oh.
Starting point is 00:34:46 This is like a kid learning something on TikTok. You need to find out for yourself, meaning don't Google. You have to talk to somebody, a doctor. A medical specialist. Yes, we may actually put them on the air as well. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Because if you Google it, you're not going to like what it says. What it says that anyone can do it? You must be between the ages of 18 and 60. Okay. It sounds like this guy's already done it, though, and they said, ah, you're too old. But he may be what they call a... Geriatric donor? No.
Starting point is 00:35:13 I don't like that. Unmarrowed. Oh, that. I made that up. That sounds terrible. Yeah, I know. It sucks. All right, giving me Travis in North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Just wondering what y'all's thoughts were on Morgan Wall and not being at the TMAs. He's the best country singer out there as of now. wondering what y'all thoughts were. I'm fine with it. What's an award show anyways? And these days, that was kind of funny. But we don't know why he wasn't there. No, but he wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:35:39 That's kind of funny. And he won't entertainer of the year. And I feel like they may, I'm not sure which award show. You know, there was a point where one of them are like, hey, you're not welcome here when he got in all the trouble. And although at the time, some felt that was just, if I were him, maybe I'm whole, I don't know. I don't know the reason.
Starting point is 00:35:58 it's always kind of like, yeah, he showed them. I don't know. I am not a system guy. I am often held back by the system. The country music man, the corporate country music world does not enjoy me. So I like it when someone else who has far, far more reach and credibility than I do, who also isn't at times embraced by the system really sticks it to them. Because when I stick it to him, it's more like you're poking him with your pinky.
Starting point is 00:36:24 When he sticks it to him, it's almost like he's doing one of those that the SWAT team comes up to the door boom. Oh, the battle ran. Yeah, yeah, mine's like a pinky poke. His is battering ran. Battering ran. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, that's pretty funny. I'm glad he won. I thought he deserved to win. That's pretty cool. All right, let's get over to Amy in the morning corny. The morning corny. What did the turkey say when he met the president? What's that? Pardon me. Funny, good one. Yes. Yes. Yes. That was the morning corny. That's what I'm talking about right there. We're back on track.
Starting point is 00:36:58 I thought about this, though. Would it be better if I said, what did the turkey say when you bumped into the president? No, well, you said it's perfect. There's not a big difference in the two. Well, what's the punchline here? Oh, pardon me. Same punchline, but like you would, it's when you bump into someone, you say pardoned. You achieve the highest of high with that joke and you shouldn't try to change it. Keep that one in your back pocket for Thanksgiving Day. Do all the other turkeys hate the one that gets pardoned? I don't think a turkey would understand what hate is even. And they don't understand because they're gone. Got it. But even if they hear about it, I don't know they know English. We don't know They're about to die
Starting point is 00:37:30 That's true But they might There's a lot They don't Trust me Turkeys are both really Smart and really stupid Like when it rains
Starting point is 00:37:37 They look up and drown They can do that Stop Stop it We took out of our whole life It's the hardest At least At least area to shoot
Starting point is 00:37:44 You gotta be the quietest Of almost any animal But also if it rains Why haven't they Learned to stop doing that You can have opinions You can have like a strong stance.
Starting point is 00:38:02 And then there's your body having its own program. If there's not enough money and entrepreneurship happening in communities, they fail. And what I mean by fail is they don't have money to pay for food. They cannot feed their kids. They do not have homes. Communities don't work unless there's money flowing through them.

Do you guys know what? I mean, they're starting to have. people filter in so there were some people in there. But where's it a gun? But it's weird. Like they just say, hey, they have in an archive.
Starting point is 00:51:28 Anyway, we have to give a speech. And so, you know, we've won in the past. I'm like, hey, this is awesome. Thank you guys. We love you. Whatever. For some reason, Amy decided not to give the speech. And she was, I wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:51:39 I was sick. Amy was like, I guess I won't do it. You let lunchbox do it. Right. Yeah. Why? Because I did it last time. And so I thought it would be nice to share.
Starting point is 00:51:48 Okay. That's selfless of you. Yeah? Yeah, I just assumed like we should rotate. That seems what that that's what I thought was the right thing. I've not heard this yet. Now, you guys know me. What will my reaction be after I hear lunchbox's speech?
Starting point is 00:52:03 I would say you're going to put your face in your hands. Okay. Amy? It could have been worse. Oh, okay. Lunchbox, how would you like to set this up? I think I nailed it. I gave a shout out to, you know, all our fans.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Don't spoil it. Don't do the speech again. I think you're going to be like, man, that's pretty good. Okay. Oh, this is a lot of emotion. It's just like the end. Pay attention. How long is it, Ray?
Starting point is 00:52:25 30. Okay, here's Lunchbox's speech. We were given a CMA award and action. Man, who would think a college dropout would be here excepting the CMA award tonight? And Bobby has been sick all week, a stomach bug. So please say a prayer for Bobby because without him, we wouldn't be here. And I mean, all the other shows that aren't up here winning awards. Oh, believe it.
Starting point is 00:53:01 What did you guys yell? We're not leaving. No, no, what we. We didn't yell anything. He was trying to say, which I don't know that we need to bring up any other shows at all, but he was like putting it out there to other shows. Like, hey, we're here to stay. We're not going anywhere.
Starting point is 00:53:20 Like, we're not going anywhere. So. Why is that the place to talk to other people? That's where, that was the part that was cringe for me. And then they all start yelling. And then we're being told, like, wrap it up, walk off. and they're just still yelling, sort of like sticking it to the man. I didn't mind shout to me.
Starting point is 00:53:38 I appreciate that. Oh, yeah. That's what I'm saying. It wasn't that bad. Most of the time I'm telling me feel better. For some reason, at like 632 that night, I was like, wow. That's what I'm saying. Eddie's like talking about you're going to put your hand in your hands.
Starting point is 00:53:48 Like, oh, I don't understand what you would put your head in your hands for. The end part. Can I just say this? We don't compete with a single other show. So stuff like that is always mind-blowing to me. We don't compete with a single other show. We compete with people listening to podcasts, with people living life, watching YouTube videos. We don't compete with other radio shows.
Starting point is 00:54:08 Like nowhere in my mind did I ever even think about another radio show ever. So that's like 10 years ago. Maybe that's how you do it. There's no competition in my head. Did he say radio shows? Yeah, what shows are you talking about? We're here to stay. Well, what we're saying is like, you know, you want to win that award.
Starting point is 00:54:22 You're like, man, how do I win that award? And I was just letting them know, hey, we're not going anywhere. Because there's other people in the category. No, I know. But in my mind, we don't compete. We're not fighting for people versus another radio show. We're fighting for people versus every kind of media I'm out there.
Starting point is 00:54:34 I was talking about getting more listeners. I was talking about winning the award. They are looking at us going, man, I want to win that award one day. But they ain't going to win it. So you want to yell. We're not leaving. We can't win it next year because you can't win it two years in a row. Yeah, it's only every other year.
Starting point is 00:54:48 So we are leaving. So hopefully they stick it to us next year. Whoever wins it, I want to send him a text and be like, hey, when you get up there, be like, where are y'all? What's the by bone show today? Losers? I hope they say that. That's, okay.
Starting point is 00:54:58 That's the line. So what you think? What did you think? He's fine. It's fine. It was him. He was also being pushed along by Raymundo and Scooby. And I could hear you guys.
Starting point is 00:55:06 You're pushing him along. Are you going to drunk for sure? Are you guys? Eddie didn't yell? I did not yell. Go back to the tape. Eddie said wrap it out. I think it was you saying.
Starting point is 00:55:12 Wrap him up. Yeah, yeah. We were drunk. Amy, you just have to be the leader. This is on you a little bit. But Amy refused to leave too. She goes, we're not leaving. No, I turned around and I was like.
Starting point is 00:55:22 Oh, you were leaving. I was like, I think I was the first one off the stage. Anyway, thank you. Lobby Bone Show. Bonehead. This story comes to us from Idaho. We'd all say teenagers are really stupid, right? No, not at all. I wouldn't think so.
Starting point is 00:55:38 Pretty dumb. I think there's some. Yeah. Yeah, okay. So there's a group of teenagers driving in an SUV and he's driving an 18-year-old and he's swerving all the road having so much fun. And his buddy's like, oh man, what if we light your armpit hair on fire? Oh, gosh.
Starting point is 00:55:51 Yes. What if? What if? Okay. And so they said, yeah, let's try it. Let's try it. So they pulled out a lighter as the guy's driving and Let his armpit on fire.
Starting point is 00:56:02 Then what? There's nothing else. Then what? It hurts. They slap it out. He wrecks. He's like, ah!
Starting point is 00:56:08 And he flipped his car. There's just not a lot. If the armpit hair was three feet long, like you'd repunzeled that armpit hair. I could understand like the joke. Let's light it on fire. Even then it wouldn't be a good idea, but I would get that.
Starting point is 00:56:21 Because it would take a while. You know, it's a long fuse you ever see. Yeah, but hair burns up so fast. I hear you. I'm just thinking that's the only way that I would even consider the possibility in my stupidest years.
Starting point is 00:56:32 Okay. But then in your wiser years, you'd be like, hair is like that. Oh, it smells so bad too. And it smells so bad. But it's not like a wick or a rope. Like Rapunzel. Okay. I'm Lunchbox. That's your bonehead story of the day. I saw on Instagram, Ray was spraying himself with the Jake Paul spray.
Starting point is 00:56:51 You know, when they were going down in the car before the Mike Tyson fell? And they kept spraying, and then in the ring, they kept spraying. And I was like, I bet they're selling that. it is. Ray, what is it? I don't know. My wife got me the body wash and it's the axe type spray. But it's W. What's W? What's W mean
Starting point is 00:57:07 on it? It's just his thing. It's like winner. Is that what it means? Are you just saying that? I'm saying that. What's the brand of it? But is it good? I will say the body wash is amazing. The axe spray could do better. But it's not axe. Just so people know what I'm talking about. Yeah, it's a body spray. Yeah. What's
Starting point is 00:57:25 the name of it? Do you know? Mike's looking it up. it's it's just called W W. W. And it's a body spray and they have body wash I will say this
Starting point is 00:57:37 and I've said I think the It stands for win Cool Oh yeah I was right But it's literally called W
Starting point is 00:57:45 That's the name of the brand Okay So they're the greatest promoters ever Ha ha ha They got us But also great athletes
Starting point is 00:57:52 too Like the other Paul brother is a really Good WWE wrestler That's crazy It's crazy
Starting point is 00:57:56 He's legitimately good. And what upsets the other wrestlers is, sometimes he's like, I don't do a lot of the extra, like the other training or hanging out. But he just talks about it. And they're like, that's not how we do it. So it's funny to hear the old school guys, like, get mad.
Starting point is 00:58:11 What's the other brother his name called? Logan, Logan. Logan. Ron is. You know what? Ron Paul is? No. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:58:18 He wasn't he a politician? Senator, yeah. Oh, yeah. You know what? Too high. Shot too high with that joke. That's okay. I was thinking RuPaul
Starting point is 00:58:28 That would have been funny too Yes we would have known who that is Their drink is good Prime It's terrible It's too good We were in like Arizona Where were we?
Starting point is 00:58:41 Yeah Arizona And they were like hey you should get the Paul I don't know which Paul it is And I was like I don't know There's like super citrus ginger Strawberry lover lover lover I don't know what it's called So I got it
Starting point is 00:58:50 It's good It's good I mean I'll like I'm gonna say it I'm a fan of the drink You drink it and you're like, oh, this is delicious. What's in here? And you're like, oh, how does this have zero calories?
Starting point is 00:59:01 Yeah, I don't know that I trusted it. I trusted about how much that I trust a fight they're going to put on. Yeah, well, and just as a parent, you have to beware because there's the prime that has the energy and then the prime that's like a hydration. That's true. And you've got to know the difference because your kid will be like, I want prime, I want prime. And then you're like, giving them basically like a crazy Red Bull. Well, it was good.
Starting point is 00:59:20 It's all I know. Stop to the gas station. It's good. Bye, everybody. Yeah. Bobby bones.com. Here we go. On the Bobby Bones show now.
Starting point is 00:59:28 Parmalie. Boys, it is good to see you. If you don't mind, I'd like to walk through some number ones. I have a point I'm going to make here. The first, let's go back to 2013. Ray Mundoondale, would you play Carolina? What do you think? Give me a story about what you think about that song,
Starting point is 00:59:42 when it was written, or like the success of it. Oh, there's so much. When our parents came and we got our number one is plaques. And everybody from our family's got two. witness that, you know, for the first time, kind of their validation of supporting us through the years and, yeah, getting to present those. All right. Just away with Blanco Brown. Hit that one, 2019. Matt, we were off in California and he decided to go write and we had a day off. I'm like, we're going out, we're going to the bar. You're going to write with some people. He came back
Starting point is 01:00:15 with this song. I heard it for the first time. I was like, wow, this is amazing. This is going to be big. We didn't have Blanco yet, but I knew it was going to be. I knew it was going to be. I knew it was going be a big song. Question about that, because I hear the song, and I'm like, man, catchy, super catchy. Hook's great. Do you ever think that, though, and it doesn't become a big song? Are you like, this song's going to be a big song? Because we never get to hear those stories.
Starting point is 01:00:36 We're like, it's going to be awesome, and then it really doesn't. That was two years later also, so the song sat there. He got Blanco on it. It made magic, but it just sounded like a hit. But, dear, your question, absolutely. I mean, we've swung and missed before. We've had a million of those. I would think that about every song.
Starting point is 01:00:55 I'll be like, oh, buy the mansion. This is going to make me a lot of money. Learn lesson about that. But then what would happen is I would be scared to ever feel that way again after I was wrong like nine times in a row. So if you still are able to get it, like that must mean, what is it? Scott's always right. He's our go-to guy when it comes to picking songs.
Starting point is 01:01:13 He knows which ones will be hits. What are you, five-for-five? Three-for-three, maybe four-for-four. But then it gets risky because now. Yeah, and now and now they put the pressure on. You got to just like playing something in passing. It's too much pressure now. Have you ever had the one where it's like kind of the opposite?
Starting point is 01:01:30 We're like, God, this song sucks. I guess we're going to put it out and then it does awesome. Great question. Well, what a great problem to have. I don't know about that. No. I think we've done the other thing, though. Well, I mean, when we would put out, close your eyes,
Starting point is 01:01:45 that we didn't really like that song. We didn't write that song. As a single or in general? As a single. we just didn't think much of it. It just sounded like a song that sounded like a hit. And it sounded like something that was familiar. So we were just like, oh.
Starting point is 01:02:01 And then all of a sudden it goes up and like, it was top five. And it's like, whoa, we didn't realize it was that catchy, you know? So who then recommended to you? And then do you trust them more than next time? That was Loebba. John Loebba. John Loebren from the label. He sent us the song.
Starting point is 01:02:15 And I heard it. And I was like, man, it kind of sounds like a couple things I've heard. And I don't know where I've heard it. And he's like, that's exactly why you should cut it. That's what he said. And I said, yeah. Sounds familiar. And I was like, that's great.
Starting point is 01:02:26 Yeah. Was that one of your right ones? Scott's like, yeah. He's like, I'm nine for nine. Records getting better as we're going. Hey, we love this. There's a lot of pressure here now. Let's do, Ray, give me take my name.
Starting point is 01:02:38 I remember playing this song for some radio people. We were down in Florida. Yep. And they listened to the song. And I love the song. I thought that they should be way more excited about this song than they were. And I was. I was watching everybody listen to it and I was like there's something wrong with this song.
Starting point is 01:02:54 Something's wrong with it. And I was like, it's too long. It's too long. So I immediately went in the hotel room, started chopping up the song, editing the song, got it down to like two minutes and 40 seconds or whatever. And then boom. That's my memory. To answer your question, this was the one. This was the one I think we all kind of slept on and didn't realize how massive.
Starting point is 01:03:14 And it ends up being the biggest one. It's good. It was 13 minutes long. He fell asleep. None of us knew how big this is. song was going to be. I don't think anybody in the whole I can't imagine. Is there a moment and it could be any of the songs?
Starting point is 01:03:26 And I'm going to save this. Is there a moment question? But let's do a girl and mine. Play this, Ray. My favorite thing about this song is the day we shot the video for it. We shot it on the roof of a high-rise building right here in downtown Nashville. And little known fact, Matt is terrified. He's scared of heights.
Starting point is 01:03:42 And they put him on top of this building right on the edge with drones flying around him, getting all this footage. And I felt scared for you. I wasn't up as high as you, but that's my memory of girl in mine. When is that threshold moment when you go, okay, we feel pretty good about it to, oh yeah, this is doing it. Like, what does that feel like? Because it doesn't have to just be a number on a chart. Because I'm sure sometimes it can hit a number and it doesn't feel that way or the opposite. Like, when can you
Starting point is 01:04:09 feel that it's really going to do something major? I think it's the live show. It is. I think it's to people showing up at the shows. Yeah. People singing and showing up. Singing the lyrics back. What do they sing the loudest back? Take my name probably. More than Carolina. Yeah. Sometimes I just scream Carolina in my backyard by myself. That's my favorite one though.
Starting point is 01:04:28 Take my name is my favorite. Is it? Yeah. We used to end to say it always with Carolina, and you probably would think we'd end with Carolina. We end would take my name now. When that changed, we're like... And you would be amazed at the amount of proposals
Starting point is 01:04:41 that are happening at shows. We just had one a couple nights ago. I'd do a fake one. I'd be like, oh, I'd propose just to get on the day. Never worry that might have it? Come on with it. Yeah. You ever do, I've done, I've messed up before doing a gender reveal.
Starting point is 01:04:53 Do you ever do gender reveals on stage? No. We've not done one of those, Howie. No? Okay, well, I'd like to give you a word of a little tip then if you don't mind, because I've screwed this up very badly. Because it's going to happen. You guys are successful stars and people are going to want to be like, well, you reveal my baby. And so I made the mistake once and I was doing a stand-up show and they were like, we want to do it.
Starting point is 01:05:12 Great, let's do it. So in the envelope, they're like, you're going to reveal it to us. I made the mistake of going, okay, what do you want? now they answered that and I believe they wanted a boy I asked him he wanted a boy now the problem is if I pull out it's not a boy in the picture he's now
Starting point is 01:05:28 never ask what they want okay okay no taking yeah because all you can do is like be even oh you got what you wanted and if you don't ask you just pull it everybody's gonna be excited but it was so awkward I said what do you want a boy oh it's a girl
Starting point is 01:05:40 I'm disappointed like I can't teach you much because you guys are stars but that's the one thing I'd like to leave from this I have a meeting here. Here we go. On the Bobby Bones show now. Parmali.
Starting point is 01:05:53 I got on social media and Matt, I'll talk to you about this specifically. I kind of get annoyed for you guys sometimes. It's not really at you guys. I like you. I get annoyed for you because you do have massive songs. You're right to have a fifth number one. And I just said, I was like, you know, doesn't really get the credit. And you weren't asking for the credit.
Starting point is 01:06:09 You didn't even tell me to do it. I was like, Parmali kind of gets robbed from whenever people talk about how successful accolades. that bands getting deserve. And I felt like when you were laying on the couch with all your medals on, I felt like you felt that too. Dude, when I saw that post, I was like, I got to hit Bobby back.
Starting point is 01:06:29 Thank you for doing that, you know? Yeah, thank you. It meant a lot to us. That made this feel good, yeah. I said, we got to just, yeah, we got to do the duet thing, man, because, yeah, I mean, yeah, what's up with that, you know, it's like, this is almost,
Starting point is 01:06:42 if this song goes up, that'll be five number one. It'll be five, yeah, four in a row. Crazy. Crazy. At a time. there aren't a lot of bands, because there just aren't a lot of bands. It never has been in country. Especially a lot of bands having success, much less just bands that exist.
Starting point is 01:06:54 I know, dude. What's, what's, what's the, what's, what's, are you, what's the, are you too good looking? Guys, I mean, what's it? Are you intimidated? I don't know, man. I think that's what it is. Yeah, me too. Like, what do we think?
Starting point is 01:07:05 Fundamentally, why do we think this happens? I don't know, man. No one likes us. A lot's happened for us in the past three years. Yeah. I mean, it's really. I feel like we did, you know, come out of, which is part of the accolade, you know, digging your way out and proving yourself and coming
Starting point is 01:07:22 out with some massive songs. I want to see you performing at award shows, guys. Yeah, we do too. Wait, but how many years have y'all been together? Longer than we haven't. Not 25 years. No, really. 25 years this year. Whoa. That's what I'm saying. Like, I wanted, it's not even like I'm making this. You didn't know we were that old. This great wish of like, I'm really rooting for you. Like, you deserve to play at these network award shows. And I think that's where I get frustrated is, It doesn't have to be you guys.
Starting point is 01:07:48 It could be anybody that is reaching the data point of what the expected data point is. It's almost like, oh, you've done this. So now you deserve to do this. You're not asking for charity. You're not asking me for anything. I'm just saying I feel like life's not fair. But I feel like it's a bit unfair that you guys are not playing these main spots on these massive award shows. We'll get there.
Starting point is 01:08:09 I mean, what do we got to do? Yeah. You tell us what you do. What are you got to do? Exactly. Only fans. Aparmily only fans. That's it.
Starting point is 01:08:15 No, we're calling it only bands. I will say this, I heart has looked out for us. They nominated us for awards, several. They've been great to us. Yeah, I'm part of the I heard, by the way. You love this shirt. The rest of the crowd, I don't know. Snub, exactly.
Starting point is 01:08:30 Exactly. So, how are the live shows going? Amazing, man. It's been amazing. Don't you wish you could get people out there to see? Because, again, I'd be very selfish. When I was touring, doing theaters and theaters are all full, I was like, I wish I could people from home to see that people actually think I'm funny.
Starting point is 01:08:46 Like it was a very selfish thought I was like man I think of watching me do a show They'd be like oh that guy's funny And so don't you wish like you have people out And like Des Moines Watch you fill up thousands of seats And just crush it Yeah
Starting point is 01:08:56 Yeah I mean What are you gonna do? I mean that's the way you post your stories And let everybody know We're still trying to do it every night I know then I edit out the empty seats You guys ever do that?
Starting point is 01:09:06 I do that I'd like crop out that little corner of empty seats I'd be like I'm not putting that up there This song And we've talked about it on the show And so, and I don't think I would have even brought it up, except for when I was actually reading about the song, I'm going to love you. Based a bit on the shooting situation? 100%.
Starting point is 01:09:25 Okay. Can you, for our audience, I feel like we're introducing everybody all the time all over again, even ourselves. Yep. Can you give me an abbreviated version of that story? Yeah, so this was back in 2010 before we had a record deal. We were playing a club on a Monday night. And I think we had like 20 people there. But anyway, short story, me and Scott were out in the RV.
Starting point is 01:09:46 packing up after the show get a knock on the door I'm thinking it's Barry and Josh but it's two guys and bandanas with guns at my head a gun at my head push me up an RV give me your effing cash and then fired the gun right by my head and I knew Scott was in the back
Starting point is 01:10:02 it was just me and him up there and I knew he had his fire on with him and he was a concealed carrier and I said Scott I need some help and he didn't hesitate he came and walked up that little hallway and engaged both the guys shot both of them one of them's not here the other ones in prison but in the gunfire he got shot three times one in the for more artery and he was
Starting point is 01:10:21 fell out on the couch and was bleeding out right in front when these guys finally made their way to the RV to see what was going on and um thank god there was a cop right at the McDonald's next door and the first responders got there quick and they airlifted him but i think he bled out like twice on the way to charlotte got in there was so terrible um 10 days in the coma 40 in the hospital three life-saving surgeries but when he came out of his coma the first thing he said was
Starting point is 01:10:49 we ain't playing no more of them or them shit clubs yeah first words out of his mouth they knew I was gonna be all right he's like I think this song would be a number one save that for later
Starting point is 01:11:01 yeah I mean it was terrible you know but we got through it and we had a lot of help from family and friends and at that time we were just about to come out of Nashville to get a record deal
Starting point is 01:11:10 we worked on that we had already recorded Carolina and must had a good time. And we'd had those in the bucket. And this was the biggest thing that we've ever had in our career happened up to this point as far as being on the cusp of getting, finally getting a record deal. And then boom, this happens.
Starting point is 01:11:23 And everything just shut down. But everybody was supportive. They raised money. Local bands that shows people in Nashville did auctions, you know, family and friends, everybody prayed, and everything just came together, you know. Came back, got the record deal. And then we met Bobby Bones.
Starting point is 01:11:40 And then the rest of the same thing. We met you. Wow. That's when you came to town. That's the same year. So how does that story into going to love you? Like what is the relationship there? It's just the song that we needed to tell the story.
Starting point is 01:11:56 We had a lot of people asking us about, you know, man, you guys should do a documentary or you should do a movie. And we wanted to tell the story, and we just had the song now, and we hadn't had it before. And I was like, okay, this is coming down. This is what all this is for. And it's about unconditional love. Yeah, too. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:13 You know. Having people's back and, you know, there's people that no matter when you call, they're going to pick up. And so we see. We have that in ourselves, you know. You didn't answer my phone when I called last night. Uh-oh. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:12:26 Oh, you didn't answer my call. Exactly. Change his number. Exactly. I didn't see you call me back. Question about the family dynamic here. You got two brothers and a cousin and a friend, but Josh not being related. Do you ever not get invited to family reunions?
Starting point is 01:12:42 And you're like, what's up, guys? Well, thankfully, no. He wouldn't go anyway. I wouldn't go anyway. But I'm a only child. I don't have any siblings. And being in this band, these guys are my brothers. So they invite you to family reunion if they have one?
