slow uh is sometimes late as night if tomorrow never comes right it's like one of us slow ones that's why i think the brooks and dunn's greatest song is neon moon when the sun goes down what's the brand new man's good too great they have a million great songs yeah it falls in that like real kind of more upbeat category it's hard for an upbeat song to be an artist that has been around for generations hard for an upbeat song to be their best because you don't connect as much in upbeat songs. talk to Ronnie Dunn because I'm doing a second reboot project. On the Bobby Bones show now. Ronnie Dunn. Let's talk about Brooks and Dunn for just a second. I know you guys made a big announcement. So you guys are rebooting again? Yeah. Another boot?

A reboot too. Yeah? This one, you know, the first one, we tried to keep everything between the lines. That was kind of the mandate. You know, you can have a little bit of artistic freedom, whatever you wanted to do. And it played out great. This one, we turned everybody loose. There were 18 artists.

And I really, I have to look at my phone. No, I have them all here. You have them? Yeah, and I have specific questions about some of them because I think this is really interesting. Like, I like Marcus King a lot. Yes, me too. And you did rock my world, little country. Turn it into a completely different animal.

Have you heard any snippets from it? No. I said, God, freak out. You're going to love it. I've heard no snippets from the music, but you know you, I don't know if you did it on purpose or accidentally, but you sent me the whole contract to this record. What time at night, wasn't it? Exactly.

No, I have like the literal contract that you sent me. Really? It must be the attachment from a, word thing. Okay. And I was like, I probably should know all the intimate details about how much Ronnie's made. Look, it's not going to hurt. I trust you. Yeah, well, I didn't send it anywhere, but you sent me the whole contract to this record. And I was like, I don't know if he's telling me or he could have just said, hey, we're doing reboot too. No, I probably needed you to interpret it for me because I can't really take out of the stuff. I didn't want to pay a lawyer, although you're not,

you're not cheap. Yeah. How about Kingfish? Someone I didn't expect to see on a record like this. Yeah. How about it? He comes in with his entire band. They come up with a black van and a black trailer, walk in, their equipment's set up, they're tuning their stuff, putting strings on the guitars, and after about 30 minutes or an hour, they sit down and rip, just tear into it. He's hot right now.

I mean, you see him in a Coachella all over the place. I mean, it's hot, period. But blues, way south, you know, Mississippi stuff, but the real deal. Jelly Roll, do I believe. Yeah. That's a very passionate song. Jelly Roll's a very passionate guy.

How'd that go with him? Real well. I mean, when you hear the track, I kind of don't want to talk about too much of it, but I have to, for the sake of promo. For the sake of we're doing an interview, we have to talk here.

Yeah, I have to do this. Yeah. Just give me, like, I don't know, like, what's the vibe? Do you, does he come in and... Okay, Dan Huff produced this stuff. Joy Moy did a lot of stuff. Christian... Bush.

Yes, Christian Bush. Did one on Megan Maroney. But we go to do believe Dan Huff has a... 60 string or whatever piece orchestra. Wow. It's massive. Well, come to find out, Dan goes, no, I've got to do this on this project. Sony just gave us carte blanche to do whatever we wanted to do.

They really did. Just laid out, there's no budget, which is pretty dangerous to say. And you don't hear of it this day and time. But Dan's father was a string arranger in L.A. And it's all kinds of tricky stuff to his background that I didn't know. He played on some Michael Jackson. I know. I didn't.

Yeah, that's crazy. Wow. Yeah. Coolest guy in the world. Anyway, we get in and they do the tracks, and we kind of try to sing to them, but you, you know, you kind of float through that because we're trying to grab the orchestration tracks. And then we go to Dan's house and sing it. And it gets me, and I'm jaded. I've heard it plenty of times.

On the original reboot, when you did Neon Movement. and it was Casey and it was kind of a I loved the version. Yeah. And I was at the Casey show when you guys came out and played with her. Well, see, on that one, that was the reboot one,

we were supposed to kind of adhere to the rules and stick to the arrangements a little bit. You know, she comes in with her own van and went, ah, almost artistically, it should have been on this record because everyone took off

and did their own thing. Well, this one is with Morgan Wallin, right? Yeah. So does he come in and have an idea of how he wants to do it differently? Yeah, yeah, he did, but he wanted to stick to the original as much as he could.

And then Joey came in and added a, I don't know, it's like a Mexicali Latino type guitar. The song that's out now is Play Something Country with Lainey. When did you get Lainey on the project? I know it's the first song released, but why did you pick this one, like how long? I don't know, when did you record it out of all the 18 songs? She picked it.

I think it was, I don't know, toward the middle. We were, you sat there in the studio, no one comes in with a preconceived, arrangement or how they're going to do it. And the band is fabulous. So I hear them over there kind of tinkering around as band is always doing the studio and they're kind of like hitting this

easy top thing instead of the signature guitar thing that we did. Don't da-da-da-ta-ta-da-da-da-da-da-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta. And this is easy top lick and she steps up to the mic. And she had way more power than I expected. I mean, she's a whaler. Did you get any nose? I don't want to know who from, but could anybody

not do it? I don't know because we weren't involved with that. Our manager Clarence, Spalding, he said, I'm going to call each out one time. He said, I'm not going to push. He said, if you're not into it, you're busy, whatever. No problem. And he says that

pretty much 99% of everyone that was asked, stepped up and came on board. Megan Maroney, doesn't ain't nothing about you. It's insane. Have you heard it? I've heard nothing. You've sent me a full contract, but not a single track. That's the wild part.

You know about my legal life. Yes, but I haven't seen a, I haven't heard a single track. And you guys are back on the road, going to do a bunch of more shows? Yeah, yeah. We did 40 plus last year and we getting ready to do a bunch more. In fact, I'm leaving here and going to the management office to find out of what we're doing next year. Tour's fun. It's more fun than it ever has been.

Why is that, you think? I don't know. No pressure? No pressure, but the crowds, I mean, they're as big as they ever were. I mean, it's like it. Here's a funny thing. we'll ask them, let's say third of the way into the show toward the top.

How many of you, is this your first time to see Brooks and Dunn and three quarters of that audience raised their hand? We're new guys. They don't know who Brooks and Duns, but they bought tickets. You and Kicks good? Yeah.

Everything working out, good? That's all the same. He stays in Louisiana. I stay here. Okay. You know. I do know. No, listen, I'm just happy.

elementary school and she has a lot of great qualities. It can sometimes be fun to hang out with. But lately, it's really been taxing to spend any time with her. She's a little self-centered. She can take over conversation. She makes everything about her. At what point should I stop being friends with her? Should you continue to be friends with someone when it's not enjoyable anymore? If they're annoying you so much that you don't like hanging out with them, you don't need to be around that crap. That's what I would say. Yeah, I think that something my sister once said to me that was helpful is like things can serve their time and they can have an expiration date and it's okay. And that includes relationships at times. That's what I went to you. That's such a pro. profound thing that you have learned from your sister. And I'm just like, does their knee hurt?

Yep. Okay, we'll fix it. And then you can still be friends later. Nope. Okay, she's just annoying. Get out. Yeah, you just run away. No, not run away.

Expiration date. No, no, no. I know. I was saying what you might just like just shut it down. But I think that sometimes we put people in a category of like, oh, we've been friends for this long. So I need to make it work or whatever, fill in the blank with that. And expiration date kind of helps put it into perspiration.

of like, oh, it doesn't mean you wouldn't regret it or it wasn't good at the time, but it is expired. You can also move them from A list to B list, meaning you don't have to hang out with them as much. And you can still have a relationship and still have that friendship of you'll be there for them if they need something. Like some of my, I would still consider them best friends. I don't talk to as much for different reasons.

One, they're annoying as crap now. Or two, they live farther away. And both of those are reasons. My friend Courtney, my friend Andy, either one of them need to keep. kidney, I'm there. They get a kidney. But do I talk to them every day? No, because they both live far away. I have a couple friends that are annoying now, and I don't like to hang out with them. And they live here, but I don't hang out with them as much. I've moved them to be. But if your friend is this way, because something's broken or hurting inside of it, but I think you can help. Yeah. Like you get,

you can press in and hold down the number one button for about five seconds. And if you want to keep it from beeping, when it finishes cooking your food, you can press down and hold in the number two button for about five seconds. This works on all the newer microwave ovens and some of the older ones. I like to say that 80% of the time, it works 100%. percent of the time. Nice. That's cool.

Savoring. You just accept your compliments and think about them and savor them. It's just what it sounds like. It's a focus on taking some extra time to appreciate and enjoy a happy or calming moment. Savor it. Yeah, it feels a little dirty in name. Savor.

Like I'm savored. But I mean, I get it. I try to practice that a bit instead of just going, oh, well, this good thing happened, I'm going to freak out about how it may not happen again. I try to go, okay, I'm going to live with it for a second. That's good. I don't like the name, though. Take it in.

I saw it as like a flavor, like food. savoring food. Nothing. Yeah, but I did too, but I guess I just think food's successful. All right, go ahead. Okay. There's something called unhappy leave that is taking place at certain workplaces. And it's pretty much if you're feeling unhappy, you can take some time off.

I like this. I like this. Oh, God. So some of it works into like what they call sick days, but some places are doing this in addition to sick days. But what happens is. There's no chance. There's a real job. that has unhappy leave.

I'm going to call the bosses today. And ask for what? I'm going to ask for at least seven days a month. Of unhappy leave? Oh my gosh. You should call and just inquire with human resources. Yeah. Call them and ask about unhappy leave.

I'll take this call from Ty real quick who has something to say about lunchbox. Hey, Ty. Yeah. Yeah, you're on. What would you like to say? Lunchbox had such a hard time understanding how people would need a friend's coach. But I just find it hard to believe. that he's got any friends.

Schools in Buncombe County, North Carolina have introduced serenity rooms To help teachers manage dress Boost morale Hey man You go smoke in the serenity room No but there's a nonprofit called the Christos Foundation

And they're the ones that raise the funds And furnished these rooms And it's done so well at the first schools That they've been at for the teachers the response has been amazing. Like there's calming music, snacks, furniture that's comfy, where they can just relax. They plan to roll this out at more and more schools when they can.

And it's just really going to be helpful for so many teachers. And why that's important is because teachers have the access to our kids. Yeah, yeah. And you want them to be in a better place because you want our kids to be in a better place. Because our kids are the future. Because I believe children are a future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. That's it.

I remember once I walked in the teacher's lounge when I wasn't like, I don't know, fifth grade or something. Hey, what are they doing? Smoking cigarettes. It was crazy. Stop. My mind was blown. They're playing poker. They were literally just a couple of seven-and-cash smoking cigarettes. Wow. Yeah, but that was the 80s. Oh, sure, it's not yesterday. No, it wasn't the 80s. 90s?

Yeah. You were in school in the 80s? Yeah, but like I was 10 in like 1990. That would be fifth grade. They're definitely not doing that now. They're not smoking or playing cards. Not in the place. It might be vaping. That's true. They could be vaping in there. That's cool. I like it. I like the idea of making our teachers more comfortable so they make our kids lives a bit better

You know, everything was big and rolling before COVID and then COVID, you know, hurt us all. our own ways, me especially with the momentum. And I had to start over. Really? What was happening before COVID? Like, what were you feeling like what's going? 2019 was like off and moving for me. I was on Girl the World Tour. Everything was happening. Lots of press coverage. Prime to go to radio, top of 2020. Boom.

Paused. And so does it pause or does it feel like it start? You have to like start from scratch again and rebuild everything. Oh, it stopped. Yeah. And I had to like start from scratch because I basically did. nothing for like a year and a half to two years because they didn't want me to do Zoom radio tour because I'm already left of center and Zoom can be difficult anyway. And I'm actually so

thankful that that happened because I kind of had like an epiphany with who I was instead of who I was told I was over COVID. Tell me more. I just had this like notion one day of why am I making music that I would not want to play for my favorite artists in the genre. Why would I not want to run to someone like Chris Stapleton or Brothers Osborne or Sturgle Simpson and go, you've got to listen to this. Why am I not making that? And why am I listening to other people about about who I am or chasing trends when I've always been this sort of gritty, soulful thing? So I got back to that, which was nice and I feel like the timing now is right. Tell our listeners about your hometown. My hometown is called California, Missouri. The abbreviation is camo. It's 4,000 people.

one stoplight, no Walmart, lots of open-minded people there, as you can probably assume. And I feel sarcasm? Yeah, just a little bit. I love it. I love being from there in all honesty, but I love just as much that I learned how to leave. And also, it's like, again, I'm a massive Cassie fan. And I've known Cassie for a long time. But it's like you're like hunting and beauty pageants.
