Hey, I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast, a slight change of plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans. I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change. We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes. You can have opinions. You can have like a strong step.
Starting point is 00:00:30 dance. And then there's your body having its own program. Listen to a slight change of plans on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On a recent episode of the podcast Money and Wealth with John Ho Bryant, I sit down with Tiffany the budgetista Aliche to talk about what it really takes to take control of your money. What would that look like in our families if everyone was able to pass on wealth to the people when they're no longer here? We break down budgeting, financial discipline, and how to build real wealth, starting with the mindset shifts. Too many of us were never, ever taught.

They put on Lizzie McGuire 2 a.m. Video on Demand. This guy's bobo-a-m. 2 a.m. Lizzie McGuire. And I'm like, a wild batch you were with.
Starting point is 00:02:11 It was like a first, like, closet moment from me where I was like, I don't feel like she's hot, like the rest of that room. No, no, no. I was like, she's beautiful. But I'm appreciating her in a different way than these boys are. I'm not like, but listen to Lascault Jerusalem on the Iheart radio app. Apple Podcasts or whatever you get your podcast. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta,
Starting point is 00:02:37 you already know there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real House Wise franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the team.
Starting point is 00:03:00 everybody's talking about. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Wake up, you wake up in the morning,
Starting point is 00:03:15 and then you turn the radio on, and the dial just keeps on turn. Then you're here, Eddie and me lunchbox, more game two, the Steve Reddabbit's trying to put you through. Black D's writing this week's next bit. on the mic so you know what this is.
Starting point is 00:03:33 This is the Bobby Vaughnstone. Time for the morning corny. The morning corny. What do you call an elf that just won the lottery? I call it elf that just won the lottery? Wealthy. Wealthy. Wealthy.
Starting point is 00:03:52 That was the morning corny. If you talk about your dreams, nobody cares. If you talk about your fantasy football team, nobody cares. But I have a recurring dream that my right eye works. It's crazy. I woke up and covered my left eye to see it. It was so real that I thought my right eye worked. It's how bad I want my eyes to work, my vision to work.
Starting point is 00:04:13 My right eyes never worked. I didn't really realize I was that sad about it until I woke up and it didn't work. So my right eye, I think is 8% vision. My left eye is not great either. It's why I wear glasses. My right eye is so bad. Glasses don't help at all. But I woke up this morning and was like, oh my God,
Starting point is 00:04:29 does my eye, like something? Didn't. Just think it didn't work. Well, what do you think that's trying to tell you? I don't know. I don't think it's giving me a sign. You guys, I know you guys love signs. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:39 I just think I think I'm a little more sad about that. I've never had good vision in my life. Well, that could be maybe a sign that this is something you need to fully grieve. Why would I? I can't grieve a bad eye. Yeah, you can. Like have a funeral for your eye. Great point.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Grieving isn't just like a funeral. I mean, maybe later this week, we have funeral for my right eye and I can move past it. Okay. We are gathered here. And then we all have stories about your eye. And the retina, that is a heck of our... That's a good point. Maybe we do that.
Starting point is 00:05:08 We're going to draft the best Christmas movies ever. Ray Mundo is the first pick. Ray, best Christmas movie ever. Go. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. That's for you, Beezer. Your wife? Yeah, we've already watched it five times, probably 20 before the month's over.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Wow. What's the appeal for you guys? She knows every quote. A second pick is Lunchbox. I didn't see that. I didn't see that coming. I'll go with Elf. That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Man. Yes. That might be the first one, honestly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But Ray did it for his wife. You know what I don't respect that. Also respect you lose almost every time. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:05:45 He's loyal. He is loyal. Eddie? Man, those were definitely my top two picks, but I'm going to fall down to a Christmas story. You'll shoot your eye off, kid. Okay. Only for irony. going home alone.
Starting point is 00:06:05 No, you're so horrible. You know that I actually think that's a Christmas movie and it's one of my favorites. I'm going home alone. My favorite Christmas movie ever, Home Alone, baby. Merry Christmas. A movie don't exist without Christmas.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Okay, Santa Claus. Oh, you're already jump up. I like it. You ready. You have to say next pick. Amy jumped in with Santa Claus. Let's go. So Amy chose in the Santa Claus.
Starting point is 00:06:25 That's a great one. Thank you. Yeah, that's good. I mean, you took Home Alone for me. That's fine. I've been a Home Alone Christmas fan forever. No, you haven't. So you're not even.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Yeah, no, I know a Home Alone Christmas is often the theme we do at our house, too. It's just, it's awesome. Okay, so first round everybody's in. Amy will go backward now, since this is a snake draft. You have the Santa Claus. What's your next movie? Four Christmases. Another one you were in?
Starting point is 00:06:47 No. That's Holiday Harmony. Got it. Good one, Amy. Got it. It's really funny. No, this is with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspin. Tim McGrath.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Tim McGraths in that one, too. Oh, yeah, Tim McGrawl. Shut up. Okay, so it's over to me. I'm going to go with. How the Grinch stole Christmas Kids love that one So good
Starting point is 00:07:16 Yeah and I feel like I'm gonna get credit for both The movie and the old school cartoon Like I like I feel like I'm People see that whichever one they think of What they're gonna vote for There's like four versions of that movie So you're good Okay okay Eddie
Starting point is 00:07:29 I mean no one's gonna pick It's a Wonderful Life so I'm gonna hold on on that one That is old No one's gonna pick that one So I'll take Polar Express I've never actually seen that. Oh, it's good, dude. You'd love it. Or do you just love Tom Hanks?
Starting point is 00:07:46 Both. Okay. Both. Are they talking that one? Or is it silent? No, no, they're talking. No, I've never seen it. Is it silent? I know if it's just like a train ride.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Like Charlie Chaplin? Okay, okay, okay. Lunchbox. Yeah. Give me a Charlie Brown Christmas. Ray Mundo. Just saw this one for the first time about a year ago. Jingle all the way with Schwarzenegger.
Starting point is 00:08:13 It was really good. Anyone else seen that? Yeah, it was good. Never seen it. I don't watch a lot of Christmas movies, but so I'll just take a word for it. Okay, so that's two down, one round ago. Ramundo, you'll go first. So far, your team is Christmas vacation and jingle all away.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Jingle all the way. There you go. And what is your third pick? This one may just nullify one of your picks. Give me Home Alone two. That's not as good. The show, the movie is just not. Is that whether you go to New York?
Starting point is 00:08:46 Dude, I don't know. Yes. I think. I don't think it's an equal-out mind, though, if I'm being honest. I'll be honest. I forgot there was a home loan, too. Yeah. Lunchbox, you have Elf and a Charlie Brown Christmas.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Your third pick? Yeah, since Ray did it for his wife, I'll do it for my wife. Love actually. Dang it. What he means is he doing it for himself? So, you know, he's crying over there. He loves that movie. Okay, and Eddie.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Oh, man, do I just go with it? Because it's one of my favorites. It's a wonderful life, but I don't know. People are going to vote for that. It's so good. It's so good. Go with your heart. Amy really wants you to have it. No, I like it. I like that. She really wants you to have it. I mean, Amy's going to take it if you don't.
Starting point is 00:09:22 No, I watched it last Christmas. It really is good. It's so good. But I'm going to call an Audible. Okay. Whoa. Go ahead. Give me die hard. Nice. I'm going to go with It's a wonderful life. No!
Starting point is 00:09:33 It's good. You win it. You're such a dude. Eddie just doesn't take it. I was shocked. I think I've picked it every year and I never win. Yeah, you audible. I was like, I'll be accepting that. I don't know them. That sounds good to me. Amy. The holiday.
Starting point is 00:09:47 What's that? It's the same vein as love actually, but. Cameron Diaz? That's not the one you're in? No. How did you not take holiday harmony? I'm in holiday harmony. Oh.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Because that seems weird to make... She didn't even know the one she was in when we played the clip of it last week. That's true. Well, it sounded familiar. I just was surprised. It was you. Right. So here's what we have.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Everybody has a team of three. We'll load them up on the internet. We don't put the names on them. Take a minute. Go vote on the team. Don't just vote the first. on pick, vote for the whole team, and we have a winner. Raimundo has Christmas vacation, jingle all the way, and who can forget, Home Alone, too.
Starting point is 00:10:22 You! Lunchbox has Elf, a Charlie Brown Christmas, and Love Actually. Eddie has a Christmas story, Polar Express, and Die Hard. I'm an idiot. I have Home Alone, How the Grinch stole Christmas, and It's a Wonderful Life. Amy has the Santa Claus, four Christmases, and the holiday. Go put your votes up. If you have a minute, I go to Bobbybones.com, they'll be up there.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Good job, everybody. Except Ray. Oh, I ain't last. I bet you are. I bet you are. No way I'm last. Eddie's is real bad. Yeah, that's pretty bad.
Starting point is 00:10:59 I'll write them down. I'll give you a country artist. And here's the example. Go ahead. May your eggnog be spiked with plenty of rum to get you through this holiday season. All I want you to do is tell me the artist is wishing you a Merry Christmas. That's the game. That answer.
Starting point is 00:11:14 is Luke Ryan. Good job. That's the example. Let's play. We got five of these. Number one. Wishing you and all your family the very best this holiday season. Can you name that country artist? Hit it again. Wishing you and all of your family the very best this holiday season. I'm in for the win. Oh yeah, I'm in. Amy? Keith Urban. Lunchbox? Keith Urban. Eddie? Keith Urban. Correct. Number two. Hoping you have a very Merry Christmas. Ho-ho-ho. Let's say it one more time. Hoping you have a very Merry Christmas.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Oh, ho. I'm in for the win. That's a funny ho-ho. Amy? Reba. Lunch. Our girl, Reba McIntyre. Eddie?
Starting point is 00:11:59 That's Reba. Good job. Number three. Wishing you a very happy holiday season. What? It's quick. Whoa. We're going to play it again?
Starting point is 00:12:10 wishing you a very happy holiday season. I mean... I'm going to give it to you one more time. Please. Go ahead. Wishing you a very happy holiday season. That's it. Can you name that artist?
Starting point is 00:12:23 Wishing you Merry Christmas? And I think they mean it. I think all these mean it, guys. Amen. Just for fun, Ray, give me one more time. Wishing you a very happy holiday season. Hit an answer here. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Pins down. Lunch is still writing. You can go first lunch. Casey Musgraves. Incorrect. Amy, what's your confidence level? Zero. Oh, yeah, like, I can't.
Starting point is 00:12:58 I feel like her last season, like it sounds familiar, but. Who do you have? Megan Maroni. Yeah. Yeah, see, zero. Eddie, what's your confidence level? Yeah, I'm with Amy. Zero. Wow.
Starting point is 00:13:10 That was very difficult. That was a tough one. Wow. Morgan, I can tell Morgan knows it. She's playing the game. Morgan's nail. Morgan knew it the first time I played. Eddie, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:13:17 I have Megan Maroni. Same person as Amy. Would you play it again, Ray? Wishing you a very happy holiday season. Morgan, who is that? I fear that's a very young Taylor Swift. It is Taylor Swift. What?
Starting point is 00:13:28 Oh. That was Taylor. It's Taylor Swift. Dang. Like, what year? I don't have the years, Amy. I just, I don't know when they, you know, recorded them into the old microphone here.
Starting point is 00:13:38 All right. Next up. And we want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. Think about that. Let's hear it again. And we want to wish you and your family A Merry Christmas. I'm in.
Starting point is 00:13:55 I'm in for the win. I'm in. Amy? Rascal Flats. Lunchbox? Rascal Flats. Eddie? Rascal Flats.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Good job. Last one. Go ahead. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Can you identify the artist based on just that clip? One more? Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I'm in.
Starting point is 00:14:15 I'm in for the win. Amy? Thomas Rett. Lunch? Thomas Rett. Eddie? Thomas Rett. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:21 We got to tie all the. way around. Good job, guys. If you miss it, you're now out. Let's go to the next one. And I'm wishing y'all a very Merry Christmas. We'll get a little harder, boy. That's hard. Let's hear it again. And I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Whoa. Come here one more time. And I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. You can win it with this one. I'm ready to win it. Okay, me.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Amy? I'm in. Shall we eat? Lunchbox? Ronnie Dug. Both of you guys are wrong. Eddie, you could win it. Oh. What do you have? Trace Atkins. No. Play it one more time, Ray?
Starting point is 00:15:07 And I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. What if he said, wishing y'all, very Merry Christmas on the Chattahoochee. Oh, it's Alan Jackson. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So you'd know if he said on the Chattahoochee. Of course, yeah, yeah. Okay, one more, then we have to go to speed round. So everybody has a chance to write this one down. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Make sure you're good this Christmas because Santa's got a secret agent bird. Penguin James Penguin is watching. I'm in. What's he saying? Dude, who knows? Go ahead. Make sure you're good this Christmas because Santa's got a secret agent bird.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Penguin James Penguin is watching. I'm in. Can you name that country star? Five seconds. I hope that's his name. And time? Lunchbox. Cody Johnson?
Starting point is 00:15:54 No. Amy. Brad Paisley. Eddie? That's Brad Paisley. Correct. Lunchbox is out. So you two will do speed round
Starting point is 00:16:01 He hits it buzzing with your name Ready to go here we go And I want to wish you and your family Merry Christmas Correct Wow Come on Okay obsessed with Riley Green much
Starting point is 00:16:12 Hey hate her That's Hayter That's Hayter coming out She's mad she lost hate her I'm not mad Ray would you play that again And I want to wish you and your family A Merry Christmas
Starting point is 00:16:20 And we went straight Hayter on Christmas too Wow Wow Riley Green that's correct Eddie is the winner Hit that Row right on You can have a pinion You can have like a strong stance.
Starting point is 00:16:35 And then there's your body having its own program. I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast, a slight change of plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans. We share stories and scientific insights to help us all better navigate these periods of turbulence and transformation. There is one finding that is consistent, and that is, that our resilience rests on our relationships. I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change. We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Listen to a slight change of plans on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. When you listen to podcasts about AI and tech and the future of humanity, the hosts always act like they know what they're talking about and they are experts at every. Here, the Nick Dick and Poll show, we're not afraid to make mistakes. What Coogler did that I think was so unique. He's the writer-director. Who do you think he is? I don't know. You mean, like, the president?
Starting point is 00:17:47 You think Canada has a president? You think China has a president? Those law crusade. God, I love that thing. I use it all the time. I wrap it in a blanket and sing to it at night. It's like the old Polish saying, not my monkeys, not my circus. It was a good one.
Starting point is 00:18:06 I like that snake. It is an actual Polish saying. It is an actual Polish name. Better version of Play Stupid Games, win stupid prizes. Yes. Which, by the way, wasn't Taylor Swift, who said that for the first time. I actually thought it was. I got that wrong.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Listen to the Nick, Dick, and Paul show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On a recent episode of the podcast, Money and Wealth with John Hobriant, I sit down with Tiffany the budgetista Aliche to talk about what it really takes, to take control of your money. What would that look like in our families if everyone was able to pass on wealth to the people when they're no longer here? We break down budgeting, financial discipline, and how to build real wealth, starting with the mindset shifts. Too many of us were never, ever taught.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Financial education is not always about, like, I'm going to get rich. That's great. It's about creating an atmosphere for you to be able to take care of yourself and leave a strong financial legacy for your family. If you've ever felt you didn't get the memo on money, this conversation is for you to hear more. Listen to Money and Wealth with John O'Brien from the Black Effect Network on the I'd Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, everyone. I'm Cheryl Stray, author of Wild and Tiny Beautiful Things.
Starting point is 00:19:28 I'm excited to share that I have a new podcast called Mind Over Mountain. In each episode, I interview athletes, adventurers, and adrenaline seekers to discuss the inner landscapes and life experiences that informed and inspired their extraordinary feats. I also bring a bit of advice into the mix so we too can better understand how to face our own seemingly insurmountable challenges. Do you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to pull out what you already have inside. We're coming into this world fighting for our lives. All I'm going to do is pull out what you already got inside. We're there to support and celebrate each other. And that's not like a your story versus my story.
Starting point is 00:20:07 You're going to walk up and over that dang mountain. You're not just going to put your mind over it. Yep, yep, exactly. And if I can't walk up and over it, I'm going to go through it. Listen to Mind Over Mountain every Thursday on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Readers, Katie's finalists, publicists. We have an incredible new episode this week for you guys.
Starting point is 00:20:28 We have our girl Hillary Duff in here, and we can't wait for you to hear this episode. They put on Lizzie McGuire at 2 a.m. Video on demand. This guy's... 2 a.m. Lissie McGuire. And I'm like... Wild. A wild batch you were with.
Starting point is 00:20:40 It was like a first like closet moment from me where I was like... You're like, I don't feel like she's hot. Like the rest of them. No, no, no. I was like, she's beautiful. But I'm appreciating her in a different way than these boys are. I'm not like... But listen to Los Coleristas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Time for the news. Bobby's B. Stories. You're seeing the drones, right, Amy? Oh, yeah, no, it's crazy. Brought it up a couple weeks ago and you guys thought it was nuts. And then I only thought I was just seeing it everywhere because I was talking about it. And so I thought it was just being fed in my algorithm, but it's everywhere now.
Starting point is 00:21:20 I've been watching theories for people to make drones that have been in the military. The thing is, nobody knows. And I have my theories. Which, who cares? Because, like, real people have theories way more qualified than I do. I feel pretty solid about mine. I don't think they're going. government, but I think they're government contracted.
Starting point is 00:21:38 Okay. Yeah, I think they're not aliens. I think they're searching for something. And you don't think it's another country. I don't, because we just shot those suckers down. I have two people that are moderately educated in what's happening, only moderately, and they even say that. And they're like, man, if it was anything, we didn't even know what it was, and we'd
Starting point is 00:21:58 shoot it down in airspace over, like, airports. Did you talk to your person that knows drugs? My ex-husband? Well, I don't want to say that. What's he saying? There you go. He just says no clue. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:11 That's been his consistent answer. And I'm like, okay. At night, drones really can't see anything unless they're trying to like smell or heat. Right? And all these are at night. Well, it's only now, like recently that they can fly at night. But a lot of the spottings, though, haven't been drones. Some of them have not.
Starting point is 00:22:29 You're correct. It's like anything else. There's been over 5,000 reports or something. It's like, yes. So it's not. there's been that many actual sightings. There have been hundreds because you have lawmakers, legislators going. I cannot believe the one congressman was like, it's Iran if he didn't really know it was that.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Like, what's he doing? He's rolling the dice. Yeah. A fed up New Jersey sheriff said he tried to track the mystery drones swarming the skies above his county, but they easily evaded his effort. The Ocean City County Sheriff sent up their own industrial grade drones and they saw nothing. They came off the ocean and so he went up and said that he thought, well, let's see what's going on. And he goes, they were out.
Starting point is 00:23:07 We saw nothing. Our drones couldn't even see what they were doing. So that's from the New York Post. My hope and what I desire it to be is these drones are looking out for our safety. And there's probably something they know that's down there and they're looking for it. I did read one story where the guy's like, we're missing a nuclear warhead. And they may be looking for that. Unlike that one.
Starting point is 00:23:29 Well, why do they only look for it at night? That's a good question. Because I saw that around 5.30 p.m. That's when they come out. Maybe because you can probably see exactly what they look like in the daytime. And these drones aren't meant to be seen. Okay. Listen, I don't know. But the drones are everywhere.
Starting point is 00:23:45 I'm glad you guys are seeing them too because forever you guys thought I was crazy. Yeah, yeah. We see them now. PSA, winter weather safety. bulky coats are dangerous for your kids in car seats. Why? They advise against dressing children and bulky winter clothing while they're riding in the car as it can create a loose fit in the car seat harness and increase a risk of
Starting point is 00:24:03 injury and a crash because it's not that tight on the kid, it's only tied on the coat. Oh. They have a big coat so they can slide out of that crap. I've never thought of that. Yeah, additional, they say take them out of the coats, keep them into the tights, tighten it on them. Also, they say don't crash into stuff. Right. That's important.
Starting point is 00:24:20 You can affect that. That's from KXAN. People are less attractive when they're covered in tattoos, according to a new study. Researchers found that younger people, tattoo artists and those with tattoos are not really turned off by others with ink. amount, but if you have too many, it starts to be gross. How many tattoos is too many tattoos? For me? If I just ask the question. I don't know. I mean, a handful, five.
Starting point is 00:24:46 When you got your neck tattoo, we were all a little weirded out by then. Yeah, I know. The dragon coming up to the side of your neck was tough. There's a big step for me. Universally, people say that facial tattoos make people less attractive. That's from PLOS-1, a research publication. Here's who doesn't look good in tattoos. people that people find unattractive.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Right. You know it looks good in tattoos? People, the people find attractive. Yeah. It's just that. Exactly. Find them attractive. You're like tattoos.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Oh, look how hot they aren't tattoos. There's nobody that you're like, well, they're ugly and they put on a bunch of tattoos. You're like, wow, what a hottie. And then also the opposite, you know? But the face tattoos, the neck tattoos are tough for me. Yeah. My yoga instructor, she only has like one side of her body, not the other. And she said that she definitely saw a guy one day when he only saw her right side,
Starting point is 00:25:33 which had no tattoos, and that they were, he was kind of looking at her and in her or whatever, and then she turned to the other side where she's like fully tattooed. And that instantly, she was like, oh, the connection lost. Like he was not into it. But, I mean, she's stunning. But she was like, okay, cool, you're not for me. One side of her stunning. I keep all mine on my right arm just for OCD reasons.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Because I'm left-hand and if ever have to get in the big game, I don't want to hold me back. If I've got a pitch few innings. Not enough research done on that yet. If you're shopping and decide to eat them all, don't put your food on the tray, they say. This is from the University of Arizona. The trays and quick service and fast food eateries can be coded with up to five times more bacteria and viruses.
Starting point is 00:26:11 Crowded locations. If they're swiping them, usually they're swiping them with dirty rags anyway. Don't put them on the tray. Gross. You can put the plates on the tray, but don't put the food on the tray for any reason. Oh, that's not good. That's what I do is my kids.
Starting point is 00:26:24 I get one plate of food and then just put it on the tray, like in front of them? They can just eat. Well, two things will happen. One, they'll be sick and you'll bring it in all to us. Or two, they'll eventually be superheroes because they'll be immune to everything because that is like, that's all. Yeah. Let me give you this mysterious story.
Starting point is 00:26:40 It's from CBS, Austin. A mysterious man keeps appearing shortly after wrecks. It just shows up. Like Superman? Garrison and Skyler Beach survived a frightening car crash near Bennington, Nebraska. After the vehicle swerved to avoid debris on the road, they ended up in a ravine. The crash occurred at night while they were traveling. They thought their car might crash.
Starting point is 00:26:59 to the guard rolls. Afterward, they noticed something unsettling. A mysterious man appeared almost immediately after the accident. The couple found this odd, given that their car was down in a ravine and no one should have known they were down there. The crash is part of a series of similar incidents on the highway where objects like furniture and bicycles were left in the road. Okay, dude, you're doing it.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Okay, yeah. Yeah, okay, okay, I don't know for sure, but I'll keep going. Leading to dangerous accidents. These incidents always occur at night. A witnesses often seem to be nearby raising suspicions. The sheriff's department is investigating a subject of interest connected to these strange occurrences suggesting there might be something more sinister behind the wrecks. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Bros leaving the couches in the highway and then going down to look at it. That took a twist. I thought it was like, you know, something, yeah, supernatural showing up. And now it's like, yeah, somebody wanted to watch people wreck. Yeah. So is he hoping they die and so he goes to the look to see if they died? Don't know his intentions. Huh.
Starting point is 00:27:51 It's like he's living out his own little video game. Unless he's hoping to save lives and be a hero. Right. So he puts stuff up, tricks them into driving off the road. Finally, an Alabama woman secretly pocketed $1 million of the donations that she raised for the homeless charity. That did not exist. What? Her name is Amy Diane Elmore Downs, 57 of Athens.
Starting point is 00:28:12 This is from WAAFF. She was arrested after a three-year investigation to discover she solicited a substantial amount of money from people from all around the world for a made-up charity aiming to help victims of domestic violence and homelessness. Since 2021, she has deposited nearly $1 million into her personal bank accounts under the guise of charitable donations. Wow. That's a lot. She was even nominated for an award this past year. Oh my gosh. Did anybody ever want to like see pictures of her out there or do it make a difference?
Starting point is 00:28:40 I hear you. But I agree. I agree. Except for there are times people just like, I'm online. You see a story and you're like, oh, I give 10, 15 bucks to that. Or like a go fund me. I know, but that's a million dollars in like, what, three years? That's a lot.
Starting point is 00:28:56 I mean. Yeah, I hear you. Campaign was. You want to do it on yourself? No, I'm just curious. Like, you know, there's actual organizations that are making a difference that have a difficult time fundraising. So, like...
Starting point is 00:29:07 Oh, you want to learn what she did so well? Yes. Like, what was her strategy? Exactly. All right, that's the news. Thank you. Those were Bobby's big. Stories.
Starting point is 00:29:17 So, over the past couple weeks, I'll make this quick because nobody cares, indulge me. Over the past three weeks, there have been times where I've left the show. I've like, I got to go. And so I came in last week and I was like, I'm lactose and tolerer. None of that's true. This is what happened over the weekend. I go back to the doctor, I guess on Friday after the show, and he's like,
Starting point is 00:29:35 first they thought it could be appendicitis. And I was like, well, that is not good because they just kept getting worse and worse and worse. And it wasn't. So that's why I said first they thought that. So he goes, hey, you need to go right now to wherever this place. And they put fluid in me, the ink. What is that called? Well, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:52 I had it done on my fallopian tubes once. Yeah, there's like some. So they can, like, test. Yeah, it's a dive. What's it called? We know it's called. So they inject this stuff in me. And they're like, you're going to feel warm, a warm sensation.
Starting point is 00:30:03 And I'm like, really? It's the weirdest thing. Because as soon as they inject me with this stuff, my neck and throat and chin starts to feel like it's hot. And my like wing intersection. They're like, you're going to feel like you peed all over yourself. I thought I was starting to pee. What? And so I was like, I think I'm peeing.
Starting point is 00:30:20 And they're like, no, no, no, you're not. This is just the dye that's put in you. And so they put me in the machine. They run me through a couple times. and I wish I can remember the name of the stuff. But so they take me out and they're like, well, how have your results? They take all the blood.
Starting point is 00:30:35 It's contrast. Contrast die. So they take my blood, whatever. And so I'm a little concerned, but not a lot concerned. And a couple hours go by and they're like, hey, so here's what's up. Because, I mean, I've been hurting and you guys know, I've been sick. Not so sick I haven't been here, but for three weeks. Every day, it's been miserable.
Starting point is 00:30:55 I had a rupture on my stomach. Moc lining and it had gotten infected. Oh. And like, how are you supposed to know that? Like, I don't know. I didn't, I didn't know that. I didn't know. And so, and then what do they do about that? I was, I did, well, I was on antibiotics.
Starting point is 00:31:06 All weekend. I mean, I'm still on antibiotics. I'm probably 40% better. Which is just a heal on its own? I'm taking antibiotics. Well, I know the antibiotics. Oh. Okay. But I didn't know that. It's an infection.
Starting point is 00:31:19 Okay. Yeah, I don't, listen. How do you rupture your inside? I don't ask that. I think it's, I have a lot of issues internally. anyway, meaning I have all these digestion issues. So who knows? But they were like, you have that lining, and then that
Starting point is 00:31:34 has become infected. But they only knew because the dye. The die's crazy. Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, I feel like I pee myself. I would love to inject you guys, but they just let you know what it felt like. It was so weird. I would have bet money. I was urinating on myself in front of the lady. Wow. And she was like, no, honey, you're not peeing. I'm like, are you sure? But yeah, that's what it is.
Starting point is 00:31:52 So I'm on the road to recovery. But I just kept thinking, why can't I shake this? bug that I have. I'm back. They should make a Disney movie about this crap. They should. I fought it in one. Well, mostly. What would you call it? I would call it the bug that was squashed. Because that's what you're doing. You're squashing the bug.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Yeah, what are you guys? Well, I was just like that you need to seek immediate medical attention. Well, that's why he sent me immediately. I know, but it took you three weeks to go to the doctor. Yes. First of all, I thought it was a bug again. And I'm not going to run to the doctor unless if it's more than a bug. I didn't do immediate. No judgment? No judgment. No judgment.
Starting point is 00:32:29 My doctor's like, you must come in after the show. So I go after the show and the whole thing happens and he's like, oh no, you got to go to the imaging place now. And I'm like, I have a podcast and one to record. Bones. And he's like. No judgment, Eddie. He's like, no judgment. How important is it?
Starting point is 00:32:46 It's pretty important. So I need to go do this because I'd rather you not. And I was like, I'd rather me to, too. If I'm not going to die, and I was hurting. and I go on I do the podcast and then afterward I got I'm all good and the podcast got done everybody won
Starting point is 00:33:01 I bet the doctor is like wait a second am I hearing this correctly he knows me okay yes and the smaller tears they have a higher chance of healing naturally with proper management so your medication is helping it heal
Starting point is 00:33:14 do you feel better because you were like nauseous that's notches for three weeks I try to work out like halfway to I'd be like oh and I finish the workouts that's in the Disney movie that's gonna be like That's a big part of it. That's a big part of it.
Starting point is 00:33:25 I remember I set some bench press records too. Well, you're lucky it didn't get larger. Maybe does it say how he tore it? Then you would need surgery. Oh, yeah, that's true. I probably still do. But you know what? Screw it.
Starting point is 00:33:36 I just want to know how it happens, man. I'm trying to think. Like, is it too much pickleball? Like, did you reach for a ball and it just ripped your insides? Never know. We didn't eat anything crazy. Did we on the show? Think about life, man.
Starting point is 00:33:45 Okay. It says, what causes a tear in the stomach lining? It might be forceful vomiting, a knife or a gunshot wound to the abdomen of the Don't worry about what I do on the weekends. Don't worry about what I do on the weekends. Violent coughing? No, I didn't do any of that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:59 Oh, good. I'm okay, though, everybody. Just want you to know what's going on. Thank goodness. I'm not lactose intolerant. Yeah, I was going to say, it didn't sound like lactose intolerant. But I'm heavily lactose intolerant while this is happening. That's in the movie, too.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Okay. It's got to be. Yeah, yeah. And I beat lactose. You can have opinions. You can have, like, a strong stance. And then there's your. having its own program.
Starting point is 00:34:27 I'm Dr. Maya Shunker, a cognitive scientist and hosts of the podcast, a slight change of plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans. We share stories and scientific insights to help us all better navigate these periods of turbulence and transformation. There is one finding that is consistent, and that is that our resilience rests on our relationships. I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change. We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Listen to a slight change of plans on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you listen to podcasts about AI and tech and the future of humanity, the hosts always act like they know what they're talking about and they are experts at everything. Here, the Nick Dick and Poll Show, we're not afraid to make mistakes. What Coogler did that I think was so unique. He's the writer-director. Who do you think he is? I don't know. You mean the president?
Starting point is 00:35:35 You think Canada has a president. You think China has a president. Loz-Laque Rousette. God, I love that thing. I use it all the time. I wrap it in a blanket and sing to it at night. It's like the old Polish saying, not my monkeys, not my circus. Yep.
Starting point is 00:35:53 It was a good one. I like that. It's an actual Polish saying. Yeah. It is an actual poll. Better version of Play Stupid Games, win stupid prizes. Yes. Which, by the way, wasn't Taylor Swift, who said that for the first time.
Starting point is 00:36:04 I actually thought it was. I got that wrong. Listen to the Nick, Dick, and Paul show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On a recent episode of the podcast Money and Wealth with John Ho Bryant, I sit down with Tiffany the budgetista Aliche to talk about what it really takes to take control of your money. What would that look like in our families if ever. Everyone was able to pass on wealth to the people when they're no longer here. We break down budgeting, financial discipline, and how to build real wealth, starting with the mindset shifts. Too many of us were never, ever taught.
Starting point is 00:36:40 Financial education is not always about, like, I'm going to get rich.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Hi, everyone. I'm Cheryl Stray, author of Wild and Tiny Beautiful Things. I'm excited to share that I have a new podcast called Mind Over Mountain. In each episode, I interview athletes, adventurers, and adrenaline seekers to discuss the inner landscapes and life experiences that informed and inspired their extraordinary feats. I also bring a bit of advice into the mix so we too can better understand
Starting point is 00:37:36 how to face our own seemingly insurmountable challenges. Do you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to pull out what you already have inside. We're coming into this world, fighting for our lives. All I'm going to do is pull out what you already got inside. We're there to support and celebrate each other. And that's not like your story versus my story.
Starting point is 00:37:53 my story. You're going to walk up and over that dang mountain. You're not just going to put your mind over it. Yep, yep, exactly. And if I can't walk up and over it, I'm going to go through it. Listen to Mind Over Mountain every Thursday on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Readers, Katie's
Starting point is 00:38:11 finalists, we have an incredible new episode this week for you guys. We have our girl Hillary Duff in here, and we can't wait for you to hear this episode. They put on Lizzie McGuire 2am, video on demand. This guy's 2 a.m. Two-way in, whatever time it is. Lizzie McGuire.
Starting point is 00:38:25 And I'm like, a wild bat. You were like. It was like a first, like, closet moment from me where I was like. You're like, I don't feel like she's hot, like the rest of that. No, no, no. I was like, she's beautiful. But I'm appreciating her in a different way than these boys are. I'm not like, ugh.
Starting point is 00:38:39 But listen to Los Angeles on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or whatever you get your podcast. I want to go talk to James in San Antonio. He's going to ask a question about drones. Hey, James. What's going on, buddy? Oh, no, I'm just on my way into work, and I had a question that I thought maybe somebody else may have pondered. Go ahead. I just wonder, you know, we're talking about drones earlier, and I was just wondering, are other countries seeing these drones as well?
Starting point is 00:39:11 I haven't heard. No, no, not from my TikTok. No, and I also see people in, like, the UK, like, America's, what's up with all the drones? I don't know. I sound like a valley girl. No. So as of now, no, which is probably why it's not a space invasion. And, you know, you have you know, the White House was like, these are non-man aircraft. They did say that. They're like, we have nothing to do with them, but we know they're non-manned, which then people will interpret
Starting point is 00:39:41 as aliens, but that doesn't mean that. It means, well, what do you think a drone is? Drone, yeah. Someone is, well, someone's manning it from the ground. I don't know what it is. I have. spoken to people who don't know what it is but have a history in drones and even building drones, even massive, the ones that look like little airplanes. And they are like, man, we don't know what it is either. But again, what they had told me was drones at night don't see things. If you're going to drone something, it's daytime.
Starting point is 00:40:10 But what they do is they can sense things at night. Or they can like feel heat or some gas or so they're probably looking for something. If they are even us. You got to think, though. If they're not us, we'd have shot those suckers down, right? Like if we knew that we didn't know we'd probably shoot them down.
Starting point is 00:40:28 So we have to know even if we don't know. It's got to be government contracted. Not government. Which means they can do it. We just pay them to do it. We have to reveal what it is. And they're everywhere. All over the East Coast or some now in Oregon.
Starting point is 00:40:42 I'm just glad I'm not crazy. You guys, told me for a week I was crazy when I was like, this is going to be a story. You guys, made fun of me so bad. I was like, guys, these drones or something. Well, I think that the part we thought was crazy is we weren't sold on the fact that they were aliens. We didn't know what they were.
Starting point is 00:40:55 And we still don't know what they are. Yeah. But I think we don't think they're aliens. Okay. That's fair. Anytime they send anything up to try to find it like other people, those things die immediately, fall back down. I saw a flatbed hauling off what looked like one of those big drones.
Starting point is 00:41:12 And some guy was like, well, do you think the government would just call like John's Toe Company to go pick up one of these drones? It was a tow truck. Yeah. You see it? I didn't see it. And now people are like doing AI. Now it's all, they have fake ones up.
Starting point is 00:41:24 We don't know. I do not think that it is Iran. I do not think that it is alien, but I do not know why. It could be some scary reason as to why. Again, it could be looking for something they can't find and they're scared of. They could be doing military exercises with new technology. What do you think it is? Guess, you have to guess.
Starting point is 00:41:45 I've honestly, like, so when I'm watching the news, like I'm picturing some, you know, smart guys. that are just doing some prank. No way. Whoa. No way. That's a big prank with a lot of drones. With a lot of federal offense happening. You're going to spend a lot of time in jail.
Starting point is 00:42:02 Yeah, but they're very wealthy, obviously. Like, you know, like a brain that's kind of crazy. Like, oh, watch me like pull this trick on everybody. In all the cities, though. I know. I'm just telling you one thing that popped in my mind when I was watching the news. Well, I should pick what it had to be. That's what I'm sticking with.
Starting point is 00:42:19 I do have the top 10 news stories of 2024. I just looked at the first one. I didn't want to look. I wanted to play. Number one, it was the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Oh, yeah. The big one. Amy, can you name any of the other top 10 news stories of 2024?
Starting point is 00:42:32 What comes to mind? Is the drones on there? No, it probably will. The election? Yeah, so Donald Trump became the second president to win non-sequential terms in office. That would be one, yes? There's another election one on there What do you think that is?
Starting point is 00:42:55 What other? There's another election one? Mm-hmm. This year, I don't know. Joe Biden abandons his re-election campaign because that itself was a huge. Oh, yeah. To NASA astronauts stuck in space at four,
Starting point is 00:43:07 I don't remember this one. They're still there. They're still there. No way. Yes. They were worried about their health. Uh-huh. Let me read this and I'll take more information from you guys.
Starting point is 00:43:16 NASA astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Sunni Williams flew to the space station June 5th, 2024. They did not return due to the concerns over the craft's integrity, meaning I guess the craft would fall apart or break or something? Yeah, they don't know that they could securely make it home. They will spend eight months in space instead of the planned eight days.
Starting point is 00:43:33 They take enough underwear? What the heck? I can't even wrap my mind around. The fact that you go to space thinking it's an eight-day mission and you're there for almost a year. And what about the food supply? Can they run stuff up like Uber, They drone them up there with those drones?
Starting point is 00:43:48 Well, if they can Uber something up there, I'm taking that Uber back down. Right, why would you get back in the Uber? Can be big enough. Oh, man. Dude, that's crazy. Can we talk to them? Not us, but we're having communication with that. Yeah, I think there's like videos.
Starting point is 00:44:01 That's what was concerning about her health as the woman was getting really skinny and people were worried like, oh my gosh, she's like deteriorating her health. She's stressed out. Probably she's freaking out. Like, hey, man. They take enough food? That's why. I didn't know that story.
Starting point is 00:44:15 The 2024 Olympic. in Paris is at five. The solar eclipse and the dumbest story for me. I never saw a dang thing. We were in an airplane. They were like, you're going to love seeing this eclipse. We're going to be right up near it. Never saw anything. Well, we were on the ground and it was overcast. We didn't see it yet. Oh, dang, got you. Got you the fog. I diddy at seven. Wow. Caitlin Clark at eight. At nine, the assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, which is the very recent. Very recent. And then at 10, climate change control. tributes to the warmest summer on record ever in the history of Earth.
Starting point is 00:44:51 What? Yeah, that was a year. That's number 10. Where is Hawk Tua? I don't think it was as much as it was like pop culture. I mean, dang. The 11th one that almost made it was Charles III announcing he had cancer. There's so much stuff that happens all the time. I forget half this stuff.
Starting point is 00:45:06 I know, honestly. Or it feels like I'm like, that was this year? Oh, at the end of the year, too, it's like all these people died. I'm like, they did? Who's Charles III? Prince. He was Prince Charles, now as King Charles. Oh.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Although I feel like King Charles hadn't caught on yet. No. I still called him the Prince. Didn't even think about it. I don't call him anything. I guess I don't really prefer to him ever. I just think of him as Harry and Williams' dad. How do you feel about them?
Starting point is 00:45:30 I don't really think about him. I see him in like the... Megan? Yeah, and I don't not like them, but I definitely don't like them. Why? I mean, I guess, no, I'm curious. I don't really think about them. I'm not like obsessed with the royal family, but I don't mind them at all.
Starting point is 00:45:46 all. Like, they don't bother me. I don't not like them. But I don't, I'm not interested at all. I don't know. I think people that are just born rich, I have no interest in. Like, what perspective do they have? Unfair. My bias toward people that are just born rich. Well, so Megan married into that obviously. I don't know that she was born wealthy. Okay, let me do another one. People that are born pretty have no interest. Question. Did they overvalue how popular they were going to be by leaving the royal family? Did they think they were going to come to America and it was just going to be like their oyster? because I feel like they try all these things and no one gives a crap. Well, Netflix paid them $100 million.
Starting point is 00:46:19 I think people are interested. I don't know how much. I don't know. I think that's waned. And they do. He had a mental health thing with Apple. Yeah. I think they got paid a bunch stuff.
Starting point is 00:46:31 I don't know if people cared. Right. Like I liked her on suits. I never watched suits. That's good. I heard it's really good. But I'm saying after that, that's what I'm saying they put all this stuff on Netflix. But is anybody watches this crap.
Starting point is 00:46:40 Well, and she does a lot of humanitarian. work. She does? Yeah. Like what? Isn't that kind of like she has to though? It's like her job? I feel like she did before they even got together.
Starting point is 00:46:50 I really do. I don't know. My bias is coming out where I'm like, I just don't care about people that are born rich. Like you know, you have no idea what it's like. So I unfairly don't like you. Okay. Well, with her, you have to say born pretty. Yeah, maybe she wasn't always pretty.
Starting point is 00:47:03 I'm rooting for her to be an ugly duckling. Then I can go back in reverse course and be like, oh yeah, pretty cool. She was a deal or no deal girl for a while. Yeah, suitcase girl. Did you know what name? Yes, I did. It says no, Megan Markle was not born rich. She came from a middle-class background. I don't think she came from money. I know. I just wanted to like fact-like that. I'm talking about the royal family. I know. But then... But he left so he doesn't get any of that money or I don't know how it works.
Starting point is 00:47:27 Yeah, I think that's part of it. Right. Like, you can't, I don't know. Come to America. I don't want to talk about anymore. I'm kind of bored with this conversation. I'm going on. I'm moving on. Yeah, let's just move on life right now. Yeah. Bobby Bones show. Bonehead. Norrie up the day. This story comes us from Corpus Christi. Texas. Pay attention, guys. This may be an all-timer. There was an assistant principal at a middle school with the resource officer, and they found a vape pin behind a filing cabinet, had weed in it. And they said, you know what?
Starting point is 00:47:55 We should plant it on a student. What? Whose was it? It was found behind a filing cabinet. Why would they plan it on a student if they don't know who it is? This is terrible. Yeah, go ahead. And so they were like, all right, you know what? We're going to put it in this student's backpack and bust them. What on earth? This is irritating to me.
Starting point is 00:48:12 But I would understand, not, it's not right. If it were like the principals and it was found, he's like, I'm going to plan it. Yeah, but just a random one? And we're like, we're just going to plan it? Go ahead. So they put it in the student's backpack? Yeah. And then they said, hey, we need to search your backpack.
Starting point is 00:48:26 Busted him. Got suspended. But what they didn't know is somehow the student's phone was recording in the backpack and got the conversation on tape. This is weird. So the student, luckily, has fat thumbs because I do that sometimes where I hit record when I mean to stop. And then sometimes, wow. So I just don't understand the logic of If you don't know whose it is
Starting point is 00:48:45 Just throw it away Or hey we found somebody's vaping Who wants to claim it? You make that joke like we're watching But if you don't know who it is They either had some kids they wanted to target Right So if it's a personal thing
Starting point is 00:48:58 And they're going after someone That's like let's not find someone That's like we know somebody who we're going to take down Right Dude they shouldn't work there anymore And they're facing charges Yeah or they were just Jones in to get a kid in trouble Or also if they were like
Starting point is 00:49:11 Maybe they should just Just kept it and used it. Chill out. Then not worry about getting people in trouble. You know what I mean? That's crazy. Okay. I'm lunchbox. That's your bonehead story of the day. Man, we used to use WD40 for everything growing up. Arkansas Keith would be like, is it stuck?
Starting point is 00:49:28 Is it broke? Can't find it? Make a noise. Does it stink? That's right. Put some WD40 on it. And not WD40, WD40. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Here are some of the uses you may not have known about with WD40, which, by the way, for those that don't know, it used to be in a little blue can, aerosol, little reds on top. Starting point is 00:50:37 Gotcha. And then it obviously keeps things from squeaking. I mean, that's the main reason. That's the main one. But we had four or five kids. As many things in mustard as I have in the house now, because I'm a big mustard guy, we had cans of WD40 at the house growing up. I don't know that I even own a can right now. I don't have any WD40 now.
Starting point is 00:50:57 I have a lot of mustard. I know, but for adults, like, we should have a can in our garage, I'm sure. Thank you. We will see you tomorrow. Goodbye, everybody.
