Today we welcome a multi-talented entertainer, actor, singer-songwriter, Charles Esten, currently playing in season three of Outer Banks, Ward Cameron, And also in the series Nashville, he played Deacon Claibor.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Charles is our guest right now on Taking a Walk. Hi, Charles. Hello, Buzz. How are you doing? I'm doing excellent. How are you doing today? I am doing very, very well. I get to talk about this show that I love that's blowing up, so I'm a happy guy.
Starting point is 00:03:30 What's it like being one of the busiest men in show business? You've got, you know, season three of Outer Banks, which is exciting. and then you've got your forthcoming debut, one good move. How you find it in the time, man? It's a joy, actually. They say make hay while the sun shines. I am making hay right now. As an actor, this is the kind of role that you get to sink your teeth into.
Starting point is 00:03:58 And these are the kind of people, our cast and our crew, that you just love to be around. So my day is working, beautiful. More time, this is a big old kid. I'm sitting at home. Sometimes I'm sitting on Zoom. with a code amazing for me that out of the side that going along with it is my new single. I'm a happy camper. It's one good move, and I'm grateful for you mentioning it.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Well, we're going to get back to music at a second, because I know it's central to your guys. But can your character, Ward Cameron, go any lower in season three? Fundamental question. You take your character, and you put him at a certain place. And at the end of season, imagined that he would do. I mean, he's, when it's kind of everything, at the heart of it, Ward has all the, seemingly. Now, when you start a series like this, do you know that it's destiny has more than one season in it?
Starting point is 00:06:16 Oh, no, that's the nature of television and streaming and the whole world and say, yeah, we want to see more of this. You never read when I went to the first read through the script, each other for years. Turns out they don't only known each other to need. could use a little wild advance, the young adult audience that maybe every three seasons in, it's going from strength to strength, and I couldn't be happier. Lightning in a bottle, baby, right?
Starting point is 00:07:50 It really is. But then in retrospect, I look at it and I go, well, why isn't every show shot in Paradise at sunset with these gorgeous, you do set something like that's onion or peeled? Charles, as an active member of music or musicians on call, can you, you talk about, from your perspective, the healing power of music? Oh, man, you have, you hit me right where I live. That is one of the things I care about the most. I've known for years, even all the week going back in a moment, you would find them. This is needed the most. It takes up the United States, take my guitar and stand to these rooms. They have the help of the nurses, find the folks that
Starting point is 00:10:01 just might be interested, them come in. And when you do, you go in there and love and you find that before long, you're singing with each other. And you were in London, you played Buddy Holly and had the good fortune of playing with a couple of the remaining members of the crickets, his band. What was that like? I mean, it was an incredible real job. I had been in a band in college, so I knew how to stand in front of a microphone, play a guitar.
Starting point is 00:11:34 I'd be taking acting lessons for a while. And I did, but within a year, I got an audition to go play Buddy Holly job. and I ended up standing there playing that Stratocast from those famous songs. That'll be the day, maybe baby Peggy's Sue, it's so easy to fall in love every day, not fade away.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Took me to so many places. Queen of England at the world. I found out that I was going to meet. You're going to be at a club thinking, what is this life moment? And they could not have been any kinder. And I'm so great. You latched on to one of the finest moments in my life.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Oh, that's so awesome. I have goosebumps, Charles. I want to congratulate you on season three of Outer Banks, and also congrats and good luck on one good move. I appreciate Charles you being on taking a walk. Thank you so much. I want to say one more thing. It's not been officially announced, but I'd be a full lot to mention that it's going to be fairly soon. I'm going to be in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, which isn't too far from you guys, on November 10th at the stadium theater.
