So Amy and Morgan interviewed Nina Dobrev. So you know her from? Well, she's in vampire diaries, but she also was in that Netflix movie that came out around Christmas Love Hard. And then she's in Redeeming Love, which just

hit theaters, and I watched that, and it's like such a good movie. Morgan, you know Nina Dobrev from, I can't even say her name. Nina Dobrev from? I mean, I follow her on socials, but also vampire diaries in DeGrassey. She has 25 million followers. Wow. That's a superstar. I don't think I would recognize her. Would I? That's crazy that somebody could be so famous to a part, but that's the earth now. Some people are so famous to some and not at all to others.

But I don't watch these kind of shows, so I get it. But man, she's wildly famous. Yeah, I saw she was on Ellen the other day, and I guess she has a partnership with Julian Huff, and they now have like a wine business together, too. Okay, here's Amy and Morgan interviewing Nina Dobre. We feel good about this? Yeah, so good.

All right, here we go. phone show now. Nina Dobrave. Hey, Nina. Hi. Okay, we're so excited to have you on. I'm Amy. We also have Morgan number two, our web girl on, and she's going to bring you some questions

in a minute that are from our listeners. But I got to say, I saw redeeming love, and I'm obsessed with it. Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked that. Is that something where you read the book before you ever were approached or decided to do the project and you're like, oh, I've got to do this. This is for me. Or how did that come about? I hadn't read the book.

I wasn't familiar with it. But of course, once DJ Carissa, the director of the movie, who I worked with previously called me and sending the script, I fell in love with the story. And I fell in love with the themes in the movie. And I love South Africa, which is where we shot the movie. So it felt like a no-brainer. One of my friends read that.

book, that's where I first learned about it. And she said that it's a book that completely changed her view of God more than like any other book. She's ever read and she's read it four times. So she also was super pumped about the movie. It takes place. What year is that, by the way? It takes place in 1800s, if I'm not mistaken. I don't remember the specific year, but sometime in the 1800s. So it was really fun to put on all the costumes and really transform into these characters. It makes it a lot easier, make our job easier as an actor to become and embody a role when you have a full transformation from more jokes of hair and makeup. It's so different than what you're used to. Have you watched the Yellowstone prequel 1883?

I actually haven't. A lot of people have been bringing that up in the interviews, and I feel like I need to watch it now because everyone's talking about it, but no, I have no chance. Yeah, definitely the vibe of redeeming love was making me. think of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill and that new show. Another movie that I saw recently with you in, well, actually a few months ago, but it was Love Hard. And I thought that was the most adorable Netflix movie ever. And, you know, it was about catfishing.

And I just didn't know if you've ever dealt with anything like that in your real life. Not really because I've actually never been on a dating app myself. I've been on them through friends accounts just to play around. which is kind of cruel when you think about it because I'm playing with their real lives. But no, I've never actually been in that scenario. Thank goodness. My daughter is currently watching Vampire Diaries. She's 14.

So when I told her I was going to be talking to you this morning before she left for school, she was like, please tell her. I said hi. I was just watching her yesterday. So I have to go. I don't tell her I's my back. That's amazing. Yeah, get that high in there from my daughter.

to Shira, what role, because you've done lots of things, but, you know, like my daughter would recognize you from vampire diaries. I would recognize you from other things. Like, what role do you get recognized the most for? I've been, I mean, for sure, vampire diaries by landslide. That's what I'm most known for. And I get stopped on the street the most for. But recently, because of Loveheart, I didn't even realize, I guess, how many people watched it. I should have assumed because Netflix is worldwide and it apparently performed really well globally for them, which is really exciting. But I definitely, I've been getting a lot of, a lot of people have been stopping me now because of that. For all the different characters that you have played over time, like,

do you ever get so into a role that, you know, you forget, like in your real life, you're not that character? Or do you even do what they call method acting? You probably know more about that than I do. Yeah, I mean, it's a tricky thing because I don't identify as someone who's a method actor, and I definitely don't intend to do that. But I think it's sort of hard. And whether people admit it or not, you naturally do take on some of the characteristics of the role that you're playing. And I remember when I was shooting Vampiretari specifically.

Like, I was a young kind of good girl at the time, and when I started playing Catherine, and I naturally started to sort of embody her and kind of act like her and did things as that character that then gave me a confidence in my real life to be more, you know, spunky and a little darker. And so I think it did bring it home with me whether I was aware of it or not. What about any fashion from redeeming love? Have you brought that with you, like the corset or anything like that? I ripped that corset off as soon as I possibly go when we start shooting. because it was so uncomfortable. I think all corsets, you know, you can't breathe.

They're really beautiful, and they push the boobs up, which is always exciting, but they weren't comfortable. So, no, I didn't take anything back with me. There was a really beautiful white custom dress at the end of the movie that my character wears that I wanted to take home, and they said that I could take it home, but I don't think I ever got it. Morgan, do you have some questions? from the web?

Yeah, I do. Okay, so Nina, you know, you're talking about Vampire Diaries and some of the fans of that show really want to know. Do you ever plan to make an appearance on the show Legacies? What a wonderful question.

I'm not sure. I mean, I think it depends. I don't want to say, never say never, but at this moment in time, I've had so many things going on. I'm about to leave for Europe to shoot a film. and I've been kind of all over the place. So I don't know schedule-wise if it's possible,

but I know that the show is a fan favorite and people who watch Vampry Garii love it and that a lot of people from our show did make appearances. So we'll see. Well, I think fans will be really excited to hear that. Now, you're talking about all the projects that you're doing. How do you decide if a project is the right fit for you, like now in your career since you've done so much?

It really depends on three different factors at this point. When I was younger, I would sort of take whatever opportunity came my way because I wanted to work and I wanted to grow my career and every project leads to the next one. But now I really make my decisions based on the character, the script overall, and the filmmakers involved. Because it's important to me to tell impactful stories that affects people and that hopefully move the needle or have strong themes and can have the audience go away with big takeaways that hopefully impact their lives and are socially conscious if possible. But female, strong female characters are important to me and working with filmmakers that are inspirational and that's kind of what I make my decisions on.

Yeah. And is there ever been a project that you initially passed on that maybe you went back to or maybe you passed on and you just wish you maybe didn't pass on it. Of course. Yeah, there's been tons of things that came and went. I was up for Yellowstone and ended up not going for it. So I know that's a great show and a fan favorite. And so I also really believe in everything happening for a reason

and having an intended pass that maybe you don't know about, but everything works out exactly. as it's supposed to, when it's supposed to, is my belief. Yeah, for sure. It sounds like Amy had a question, too, on that Yellowstone. Oh, well, yeah. Mostly, I'm just obsessed with Yellowstone, and now I need to know. I was like, oh, is Nina up for, like, Beth or Casey's wife, or do you even know?

It was so long ago that I don't even remember the name of the character, and I haven't seen the show, but I didn't get it and then pass on it. I didn't even audition for it, because I don't remember why. The reason was, but I was just like, it doesn't feel right for me. But yeah. Now, you know, there's other roles that you have done that are, you mentioned being really well known for Vampire Diaries. You also did DeGrassey.

So for either of those, are you still in touch with any of those fellow actors because those were two really big shows for you? Yeah, of course. We all keep in touch some more than others. but when you spend so much time on set with everyone, they become your family. So you definitely stay in touch afterwards. If your lives can align,

then everyone's doing so many different things. But we make an effort for sure. Well, and I think the bigger part of that is Drake, because that was Drake's big start. Now he's this massive artist. Are you two still friends? I know that's one that a lot of your fans want to know too, for sure. Yeah, I mean, like I said,

his life has gone in one rocket ship direction and I'm in a different direction. So every now and then our path crossed and when we do see each other, it's really bittersweet and like fun and we catch up. But I wouldn't say that we hang out every week now, but we keep in touch for sure. Now, sorry, Amy, one more question from the web. You also mentioned that, you know, you make sure you take roles that are really impactful and emotional that people can learn from. Is there any life lessons that you've continued to, you know,

have in your life from characters you've portrayed? Yeah, I mean, with every role, there's a little nugget with Loveheart, for example. One of the big themes was perfection and searching for perfection and taking a step back from that character in particular to realize that it's a little bit hypocritical to be looking for perfection when she herself isn't perfect and no one is perfect. And so it's about finding your flaws and accepting them

and accepting them in others. That was a big one for me. And then with redeeming love, that theme of that movie is so powerful and so beautiful. And it's about, you know, the struggles of life and overcoming them with the people that you love

and choosing that person that you want to go through the difficult times with. and someone who will choose you over and over again, no matter how flawed you are, and not really settling until you find that person. Love that. Amy, go ahead. I'm all done over here. Well, no.
